Video Games Analyzed. That's the name of this show. Welcome. I'm your host, Tommy, and and this is the one and only podcast dedicated to analyzing classic video games as an art form and we're here to do I'm here to do just that. But I'm I'm not alone.

Tommy:

I got a guest again this week. Welcome to the show Aaron. How how's it going?

Aaron:

I'm doing pretty good. Thank you so much for having me on. It's it's always a pleasure.

Tommy:

Mhmm. Mhmm. Thank thank you. So today's video game is The The Last of Us by Dottie dot by Dottie Dog. Naughty Dog.

Tommy:

They're they also made The Last of Us part two, but this is just the the first The Last of Us for PlayStation three. It it follows Joel and Abby no. Ellie. And they're trying to survive into the zombies, but they're they're like a fun fungus y zombies, not the not the usual brain eating zombies. And that that was definitely something different that the game did in in comparison to other video games.

Tommy:

Did you did you enjoy the game, Aaron?

Aaron:

Yeah. The Last of Us was was pretty good. A lot of a lot of story, a lot of a lot of sad stuff. It's a very sad game. If you're into stuff like, oh, I don't know, Pretty Woman or Harry Potter, you'll love this.

Aaron:

It's it's very sad. A lot of a lot of sad parts of people dying and stuff. Just like you said, the the zombies are not normal zombies. They're infected by cordyceps, I think is what it's called. It's a mushroom.

Aaron:

Wow.

Tommy:

Yeah. That's a Gotcha. That factual?

Aaron:

That that is that it's Cordyceps. Yeah. Cordyceps. Cordyceps.

Tommy:

Yeah. Okay. That's cool. Yeah. I this is one of the the this is one of the first games that we've talked about that I actually played when it released on my Playstation three.

Tommy:

And I remember thinking, wow, graphics will never get better than this. And I was totally wrong. Graphics have gotten better than that in the time since. But I also I I remember playing it and running away from the zombies or sometimes shooting the zombies with guns. That's a that was a big part of the game.

Tommy:

But there were also people that you shot as well, which I I thought was interesting to have multiple different enemy types to shoot. That's that's something that some games do and and this is another game that does that. I also Joel is a as a character was he he was conflicted at times and he cared for Ellie and tried to to make sure that they survived. And then those are definitely character the character their character or traits. Traits.

Tommy:

No. There's traits. Traits that he had. Did you did you what did you think of the characters here?

Aaron:

Yeah. They they have some pretty cool traits. The the the main character Joel, hoo boy, He he goes through some stuff right at the end especially, ton ton of really bad stuff happening. Don't wanna I don't wanna spoil it, but, yeah, heavy heavy stuff all around. Again, if you if you're like me and you you cried during Harry Potter for Goblet of Fire when What's His Face died Oh, please don't spoil.

Aaron:

People haven't seen that movie. Oh. Some people. Redacted. But, yeah, if if you're like me and you you weep, you you you sob into your hands whenever a character dies, you'll your hands are gonna be wetter than a than a fisherman.

Tommy:

Yeah. I I don't I don't know. I I I know we're not supposed to disagree on on in this show, but I I just don't think that video games are are meant to make you cry. You're you're kind of just supposed to experience them. Like, we leave the crying for the movies and and sports like sporting events.

Tommy:

I I just don't I I don't wanna question your your expertise in this, but that that kind of it it makes me question your expertise.

Aaron:

Tommy, I'd I'd I'd have to disagree with you here. I'd the video games, yes, they're meant to be fun. They're meant to take you away, if you will. But I mean, they can be they can be more than that. They could be Jesus Christ.

Aaron:

Just as cinematic as a movie. They could be just as tear jerking as, again, as a movie or TV show. It's Well, a

Tommy:

it's You can say these kinds of things on your show if if anyone would ever sign you to do a show. Right now, this is Video Games Analyzed. I'm Tommy, the host, so we'll just let's just score the game. We're we're running out of time. I four stars for me.

Tommy:

What about you, Aaron?

Aaron:

Well, I mean, I I'm gonna give it I'm gonna give it six stars and I'm gonna

Tommy:

Max is five.

Aaron:

Well, I mean, it it does more than your typical video game. I'm gonna give it six stars.

Tommy:

It doesn't doesn't matter. Six six stars. You can you can say six you can say six, but we're we're doing

Aaron:
