00:00 --> 00:09 4.5 billion years after the creation of the Earth, we started a podcast.
00:09 --> 00:26 Today on— That was a deep cut.
00:28 --> 00:28 Where'd you go?
00:28 --> 00:30 It doesn't go much farther back than that.
00:30 --> 00:34 That's like Chrono Trigger times.
00:34 --> 00:36 Don't deep cut over the intro.
00:36 --> 00:42 Yeah. So today we are talking about, once again, Rygar.
00:42 --> 00:43 Rygar?
00:43 --> 00:45 That is our 7th— it is Rygar.
00:45 --> 00:46 John Rygar.
00:46 --> 01:05 His nemesis, Liger. Uh, it is our 7th anniversary episode. Uh, technically the day we're recording is 2 days before the 7th anniversary, but who gives a shit? Um, I am joined by all of us here at Press B to Cancel. GP, welcome back. How you doing?
01:05 --> 01:08 Doing wonderfully. So good to be back. Thank you for having me.
01:08 --> 01:11 Yeah. Chard, how you doing, sir?
01:11 --> 01:14 Uh, I'm also great. Thank you for having me back.
01:14 --> 01:17 Sick Jake?
01:17 --> 01:21 Doing great. 7 years. It's just Blink and you miss it.
01:21 --> 01:24 Did you say Blinken?
01:26 --> 01:28 And Sinistar.
01:28 --> 01:32 Am I going to be the one to say it? Guys, it's been a week.
01:32 --> 01:35 We were saving it for you.
01:35 --> 01:41 No, I'm doing well. I'm glad to be here. It's been an awesome 7 years for you guys.
01:41 --> 01:45 For you guys. We're here to celebrate with you. Yeah. We're bookending.
01:48 --> 01:59 Anyway, yeah, we are, we're revisiting the topic of our first episode, which is a hard listen, as I'm told. I didn't go back because I knew it would be.
01:59 --> 02:02 It's a smooth listen. It's not a hard listen.
02:02 --> 02:03 It's NPR.
02:03 --> 02:05 Yeah.
02:05 --> 02:06 It was, it was missing jazz.
02:06 --> 02:10 To get true.
02:10 --> 02:27 No, you know, it's funny because when I listen to it, coffee talk. It had our old, our original intro. I mean, we've had the same intro from, from Angie the Last Ancient for, for years at this point, but we started with a different one. I believe it was also from them as well. But to go back and hear that intro for the first time, I almost got nostalgic. I'm not going to lie. Just a little bit.
02:27 --> 02:28 Almost.
02:28 --> 02:30 It's very weird for sure.
02:30 --> 02:34 That episode is retro at this point.
02:34 --> 02:34 Yeah.
02:34 --> 02:36 Jake's crying in the corner.
02:36 --> 02:38 I could fix it.
02:38 --> 02:45 He loves Rygar. He loves it. Yeah. Right. All the mic bleed over, guys. I can fix it.
02:45 --> 02:49 I know nobody gives a shit, but I do. It's driving me nuts.
02:49 --> 03:03 So I wanted to, I wanted to preface, I wanted to preface this a little with, uh, pointing out that there's basically 3 Rygar games and multiple garbage ports.
03:03 --> 03:04 Yeah. Yes.
03:05 --> 03:06 They're not all garbage.
03:07 --> 03:30 Just some of them are okay. Uh, I want to, okay. If you're going to bring up ports, I actually saw that there is a port for the C64 that I want to try. So I'm going to spin that up. And then I also noticed that somebody has done a complete rewrite in assembly for the Amiga of the arcade. So I want to go play that one.
03:30 --> 03:31 Okay.
03:31 --> 03:32 The Neverending Game?
03:32 --> 03:37 Yeah. And it says for all the better and all the worse aspects.
03:37 --> 03:49 Okay. At least they're honest. At least they sold it. That wasn't bad. It just was a lot. It was a lot. I was like, am I ever going to finish this or am I going to get sleep? I have decided. I chose sleep over finishing.
03:49 --> 04:24 So I have, as of this recording, I have beaten all 3 versions of this game. Um, the original arcade, the Nintendo game, and the PS2 game. So the original versions of all these games as they were, uh, So I think the one most people are most familiar with is the NES one. It's one of those games that you either love or hate from your NES childhood. And it was seemingly simple, but stupidly hard, especially if you didn't have the manual.
04:24 --> 04:25 Yeah.
04:25 --> 04:25 Right.
04:26 --> 04:47 Yeah. I, so I listened through episode 1 today because I wanted to be prepared. And I noticed, Wolf, that you said you never beat the game because you always borrowed it and never got the manual. And I have always had that experience too. Karnov is an awful game. I'm just saying.
04:47 --> 04:49 Ah, the callbacks.
04:49 --> 04:50 Yes.
04:50 --> 04:51 Well done.
04:51 --> 04:56 Well done. But yeah, I've never had the book. I've, I've only played it straight up.
04:56 --> 05:04 Is the NES one really that hard though? Because like the main thing with that game is you just sit there and kill the same enemy in 5 levels in the first 10 minutes, right?
05:04 --> 05:08 It's not that hard if you understand the basic mechanics.
05:08 --> 05:08 Right.
05:08 --> 05:55 You know, 7-year-old me had no idea what the fuck RPGs were, let alone that it had RPG and experience mechanics, because I didn't read a manual. I didn't have access to one. The first time I played the game, it was a rental. After that, it was borrowing, and I just never got to see a manual as a kid. And then when I finally got it later and GameFAQs became a thing, I got to look online and see, and I was like, oh, There's ways to do this that I didn't have to look up in like game magazines to try and understand this stuff. I'm learning that the only thing that's stupid is like using the disc armor to like grapple across, you know, cause you get the grapple hook at some point. Um, yeah, the grapple is the only thing that even when you know how to do it is still damn near impossible.
05:55 --> 06:30 Right. Yeah, I was, I was, I did not, I played it as a kid and didn't get very far. And you only ever see like the side-scrolling platforming portion when you're young and not good at games and you don't know about the level-up system. I had no idea that it had like a Contra-esque like back portion of a game or like overhead almost mass Blaster Master kind of look down to like that area. Yeah. And I didn't realize that. I was like, oh look, those posts are clearly something for me to grapple to, not knowing that you don't start with a grappling hook. And I was like, you know what? Maybe that's a point where I could jump over.
06:30 --> 06:30 Nope.
06:31 --> 06:48 Can't do that either. So the frustration had mounted because I was like, what do you do? Because again, I have not ever read the manual for this game ever in my life. I was just winging it. You can't wing it with this one. It's not a good— I mean, you could probably if you figured it out, but I'm not smart enough for that apparently.
06:48 --> 06:57 I learned to stop reading manuals when I realized that Super Mario Brothers is a homicidal menace game. After reading that manual.
06:57 --> 06:59 Spoiler, spoiler alert.
06:59 --> 07:03 Yeah, I, I, I can't read manuals anymore. They terrify me.
07:03 --> 07:16 It's, but the manual's where you get all the deep plot for NES games, right? 'Cause they could never fit all this into the game itself. Like Rygar, the NES one, is that the one that had the intro where it said 65 billion years in the future? Or is that the arcade?
07:16 --> 07:19 4.5 billion years. Uh, I believe it's in both.
07:19 --> 07:20 Math.
07:20 --> 07:36 Okay. But I think it's the manual for the NES one that says that, uh, It, it takes place on the planet Argool or something. And it's, it's, it's a sci-fi fantasy setting, right? Whereas like later on in the franchise, they for some reason switched to like ancient Rome or something.
07:36 --> 07:37 It's, it's an odd change. Yeah. It's Roman.
07:37 --> 07:39 Yeah. Future ancient Rome.
07:39 --> 07:40 Future ancient Rome.
07:40 --> 07:43 You're taking it to the Coliseum like you do with Britney Spears. Like you do.
07:43 --> 07:44 It's like Stargate. It's fine.
07:44 --> 07:47 Yeah. It's fun. Yeah.
07:47 --> 07:48 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No. Okay.
07:48 --> 07:54 So, and then I think the, uh, the overworld, I think in the NES game was called Garlaz or something like that too.
07:54 --> 07:54 So.
07:55 --> 08:02 Bless you. Wait, have you— I've seen that movie. Tsardoz is awful. Do not watch Tsardoz.
08:02 --> 08:02 Noted.
08:03 --> 08:04 You don't like Connery in a thong?
08:05 --> 08:07 I don't like Connery in a thong.
08:08 --> 08:09 Get up to get that man a disc.
08:10 --> 08:17 Not kidding. Connery in a thong with like, with like gun ammo belts on across his shoulders. It's—
08:17 --> 08:20 So what you're saying is he didn't use enough to cover his disc.
08:20 --> 08:21 That's right.
08:22 --> 08:22 Got him.
08:22 --> 08:30 Honestly, you know what? You give him a disc and you give him a tiara. And that's Rygar. That could be, that might as well be Rygar the movie. Zardoz.
08:30 --> 08:33 No, Rygar was in like leather tights or something though.
08:33 --> 08:36 Yeah. It's not far off. It's not far off.
08:36 --> 08:38 It's, it could be a thing.
08:38 --> 08:42 I tried looking that up because I've not heard of this movie. So I just use my phone to try to look up the show.
08:42 --> 08:43 Oh, you have a treat.
08:43 --> 08:48 No, everything is slowed down and my phone is burning up. What is going on?
08:50 --> 08:58 You hit the, you hit the, uh, You found the cursed item. The Google filter. The Google, you have to go turn off safe browser to get it to work.
08:58 --> 09:03 I don't think I'll do that. No one said this wasn't safe for podcasting.
09:03 --> 09:11 That's a great idea, guys. We should start a podcast. I enjoy our weekly calls, but we should start a show. People would dig the hell out of this, I think.
09:11 --> 09:16 This is not a Teams call. We're not at work.
09:16 --> 09:19 Maybe we could go for 7 years or something.
09:22 --> 09:23 Yeah.
09:23 --> 09:24 Why have I not come up with this?
09:24 --> 09:25 60 billion years in the future.
09:26 --> 09:29 Yeah. 7 down, 60 billion years.
09:29 --> 09:41 I would venture to say that Rygar is probably one of the better games on the NES despite its shortcomings. It's not bad.
09:41 --> 09:42 Triggered.
09:42 --> 09:43 Particularly for its year.
09:45 --> 09:49 Of the 700 NES titles, sure, I'd put it in the top 50.
09:49 --> 09:50 I'd say it's in the upper half.
09:50 --> 09:55 Absolutely, I would agree with you. But I don't think it's on my top 100 list.
09:55 --> 09:59 I, I think it could be top 100 NES games.
09:59 --> 10:00 It might be mine.
10:00 --> 10:02 There's a lot of shitty NES games.
10:02 --> 10:03 Yeah, I don't know.
10:03 --> 10:05 We should do a top 100 NES games, guys.
10:05 --> 10:24 My favorite thing about this game was thinking about it the last time I thought about it, which was 7 years ago, which I believe is also the last time we got any sort of online presence or discussion. So we're back to back leading the charge of, of Rygar fanboys here. And that's great.
10:24 --> 10:40 Listen, this game brought, brought birth to the God of War franchise. Let's, let's be honest. I mean, come on. Kratos, Disc Armor, Rygar, John Rygar and Kratos, Tim, Tim Kratos.
10:41 --> 10:42 You know, his name was not even Rygar.
10:42 --> 10:45 Canonically, his name His name is Cesarean. Yeah.
10:45 --> 10:46 Of course.
10:46 --> 10:46 Yeah.
10:46 --> 10:48 As you could, as you would.
10:48 --> 10:54 When, when, when in Rygar does the ashes of your family coat your skin?
10:54 --> 10:56 Early.
10:56 --> 10:59 Uh, at the end of the PS2/Wii game, I think.
10:59 --> 10:59 Okay.
10:59 --> 11:00 They did that in the very end.
11:00 --> 11:03 Is that how you get white hair? Is that how you go Super Saiyan?
11:03 --> 11:05 Yeah. That's it? That's all it is?
11:05 --> 11:06 That's all it is.
11:06 --> 11:07 Yeah.
11:07 --> 11:08 After lifting all those weights.
11:11 --> 11:13 Hyperbolic— hyperbaric chamber, nothing.
11:13 --> 11:14 Yeah.
11:14 --> 11:24 Did any of you guys hear of the arcade or other ports of Rygar before the NES one when you were kids? Or was the NES one your first experience with this IP?
11:24 --> 11:31 I mean, I have, I have a feeling I, I had a good chance of seeing it in the arcade.
11:31 --> 11:31 Yeah.
11:32 --> 11:52 But it was not my style of game. So I never really gave it the time if I did see it. Uh, and, and, and to go back to episode 1, I'm not kidding. There was an allegory to people thinking it was Karnov. I have had the same exact like moment where I'm like, Karnov? No, Rygar.
11:53 --> 11:54 Um, yeah.
11:54 --> 11:58 Yeah. This other vaguely foreign sounding name.
11:58 --> 12:07 And I played, I played the NES. So, so I, to answer your question, I, I may have seen it, but I don't remember it.
12:07 --> 12:09 But you didn't register it if you did.
12:09 --> 12:10 No.
12:10 --> 12:16 Now I do definitely remember like a yo-yo weapon when I tried this game on the NES back in the day.
12:16 --> 12:21 That was, uh, GarTropics.
12:21 --> 12:22 Yeah. The other Rygar-like.
12:25 --> 12:29 Same, same overhead map, same feel, same isometric jumping.
12:29 --> 12:58 I think my first exposure to this game would have been here in the Midwest, we had a video game and movie and cassette tape and whatever store, entertainment store, god dang it, called Hastings. And I'm fairly certain I remember specifically trying to choose between Super Mario Bros. 2 on the wall or Rygar. And I know which one I went with, and it was Mario 2.
12:58 --> 12:59 Got it right.
12:59 --> 13:06 And I think that was the closest I ever came to playing Rygar. until roughly 7 years ago.
13:06 --> 13:07 So fantastic.
13:07 --> 13:10 It's just, this is not one that was really ever on my radar.
13:10 --> 13:13 You've played NES games. You can't tell me you hadn't played it until then.
13:13 --> 13:26 Okay. Well, I won't tell you that, but, but I might be lying. Collect something without having ever, you know, we're collecting VHS tapes right now, but I haven't seen every movie of all time.
13:26 --> 13:30 Well, it's fair. Like Zardoz. You got to go see Zardoz. That's, you got to get the tape for it. Okay.
13:30 --> 13:31 We have that one on LaserDisc.
13:32 --> 13:33 LaserDisc.
13:33 --> 13:35 You know what it probably is on LaserDisc, actually?
13:35 --> 13:38 It's probably 3 sides.
13:38 --> 13:38 Yeah.
13:38 --> 13:41 Disc armor. LaserDisc armor.
13:41 --> 13:41 There you go. Yeah.
13:41 --> 13:42 LaserDisc armor.
13:42 --> 13:49 Guys, I'm, I'm regretting every moment where I made a tie to Zardoz. I'm sorry.
13:49 --> 13:52 No, I'm putting Sean Connery on the thumbnail. If, if you two will allow it.
13:52 --> 13:54 It'd be like Rygar or Zardoz.
13:54 --> 13:57 Yeah. This Disc Armor exposed.
13:57 --> 14:02 Put Connery there, but then just put the title as Karnov. It'll be great.
14:02 --> 14:39 So for me as a kid, like when this came out in arcades, it was like '86. So the only arcades I went to at when I was, I was like 5. So it was Chuck E. Cheese. And this is not a game you would probably find at a Chuck E. Cheese. So for me, the earliest arcade memories is like Mario and fuck Mario and oh, and Donkey Kong, of course. So I don't, I don't think I would've seen it, but I, I later in life I probably would've seen it in the back of an arcade in the '90s. Along with like Rastan, but I probably played more Rastan than I would've Rygar. But having played it on emulated, uh, or sorry, on the MiSTer this past week, the arcade game's actually pretty solid. It, it's bullshit hard, but it's, it's a pretty fun one. Yeah. Yeah.
14:40 --> 14:40 Okay.
14:40 --> 14:50 Yeah. Not, I played that on my Steam Deck. It was, it ran really good, but it, it's a quarter. A good thing for select button. I wouldn't have gotten as far as I did without it.
14:50 --> 14:50 Yeah.
14:50 --> 14:52 It's a quarter. It's a quarter sucker.
14:53 --> 14:53 Yeah.
14:53 --> 14:54 GP, you had something.
14:54 --> 15:14 Uh, well, it was just an idea. Uh, you guys know how, um, tangent. You guys know that Jake is playing through the Mario games and doing his, uh, his Mario thing? Well, he says Mario, and a minute ago he goes, fuck Mario. And I'm like, we need to do fuck Mario kill, where he has to marry a game.
15:14 --> 15:17 You gotta Mario a game.
15:17 --> 15:20 It's a bit of a stretch. You know, verbally.
15:20 --> 15:24 But fuck Mary O'Kill. That's so fucking good.
15:24 --> 15:26 There's your next t-shirt idea.
15:26 --> 15:27 Okay.
15:27 --> 15:27 Oh, done.
15:27 --> 15:28 So good.
15:28 --> 15:28 And I'm done.
15:28 --> 15:28 Yeah.
15:29 --> 15:30 There's nothing else.
15:30 --> 15:32 She's just Irish or Scottish, right?
15:32 --> 15:39 Mary O'Kill. Mary O'Kill. I'll reach out to November. We'll get some work done.
15:40 --> 15:40 Yeah.
15:41 --> 15:42 Gosh.
15:42 --> 15:43 Shit.
15:45 --> 16:00 I actually didn't even know this was an arcade game for years, years and years. I played the Lynx game, which is a port of the arcade game. I didn't know it was a port of the arcade game. I was just like, what the hell is this game? It's so different from the NES game. Why?
16:00 --> 16:04 Got to bring that port.
16:04 --> 16:06 And that game was bullshit hard too.
16:06 --> 16:25 Yeah. But, but the arcade game is like, I know the, the, Nintendo did that, right? Like whenever games reported to the NES, the developer always added something extra to it to change it up from the arcade games. Like Ninja Gaiden is totally different from Ninja Gaiden in the arcades, right? And it's like that for a lot of franchises. Yeah. But for Rygar, there's elements of that I don't—
16:25 --> 16:25 Right.
16:25 --> 16:44 Actually, that's true. It was Tecmo. Yeah. So the thing with Rygar on the arcade is like you, you clear the sequence of, of fighting enemies and they come at you relentlessly, but then you pick up this weird barrel thing with your arms. And then kind of like go into the room and put it behind you. I guess it's a kind of like a, a door mechanic, but why is it a fucking barrel?
16:44 --> 16:52 I saw it entirely differently. I thought to me it looked like you rode it, like you grabbed onto it and it spun around.
16:52 --> 16:53 Fucking—
16:53 --> 16:56 Oh no, it always looked to me like he was picking it up.
16:56 --> 17:06 Yeah, it was like a pickup because he— so they reintroduced that later on in PS2. They brought that back in the PS2 version. And I was kind of like, that's a nice little Homage.
17:06 --> 17:06 Okay.
17:06 --> 17:48 The arcade. Well, why not put it back? When you open up, like, some of the doors are gated, right? And you have to unlock some of the gated doors. The way to unlock them is to find those horse barrels. We'll just call them the horse barrels. Pick them up and spin them. And then it unlocks certain doors in certain areas. I was like, huh, that's where that got that from. It was because it was weird then. It's still weird. I'm not saying that makes sense. You know, I'm just saying at least they paid tribute to it back in the original when they put it on the PS2. I don't know, but I don't have any vases that have horses on the side of them that I require to open to get into rooms. Now I might, because that sounds like a fun thing to do around the house, but the wife is going to question, and that's fine. I don't have answers.
17:48 --> 18:03 Okay, so we're talking the arcade game, and first off, this is one of the very first arcade experiences I've ever had where there is like an unskippable cutscene at the beginning of like the play. And I'm like, this is a fucking arcade game. Just throw me in.
18:03 --> 18:06 It costs quarters to get out of the cutscene.
18:06 --> 18:12 And then like, I get, I put in like 12 quarters and I finally make it through the first round.
18:13 --> 18:13 Thank you.
18:13 --> 18:15 And like, I jump on this barrel.
18:15 --> 18:19 I'm like, here we go.
18:19 --> 18:19 Why?
18:20 --> 18:20 Why not?
18:20 --> 18:25 This is the game. Rygar, disc armor and barrel humping. That's just, that's just the game.
18:25 --> 18:32 It's great. You gotta spin your redone barrel around and get into the next area.
18:32 --> 18:41 Yeah, Rygar for the arcade is really, it's a troll a little bit. It is a huge troll.
18:41 --> 18:41 Well, you—
18:42 --> 18:43 they're supposed to be.
18:43 --> 18:59 Yeah, but I mean, you learn how, you learn mechanics of certain enemies. And in the last 7 levels, which I think we should mention, you can get to level 20. By just feeding it quarters. After level 20, you can't continue anymore with quarters.
18:59 --> 19:19 This was a feature from Temco. They advertise this in the manual. This is the feature of our arcade. We do this. Nobody else has done it. Here's a feature. We give the player a taste of Rygar for 20 stages and suck $50 out of their pockets. And then we give game over them and they have to start all the way from level 1. It's a feature.
19:19 --> 19:19 Uh-huh.
19:19 --> 19:20 Can't forget that one.
19:20 --> 19:21 Feature.
19:21 --> 19:23 Feature.
19:23 --> 19:24 Feature.
19:24 --> 19:32 We also attached a boot to the bottom of the cabinet that kicks you in the dick when you die. But only after level 20, it's a feature.
19:32 --> 19:42 Don't pay attention to the galoshes that were, you know, that are on your feet and the cement that's being poured around it. Just don't worry, it's a feature.
19:42 --> 19:47 I'm gonna get some gold diademas rammed up my midsection, I'm super excited about that.
19:49 --> 19:54 But in those last 7 levels, they change up some of the enemy behaviors.
19:54 --> 19:56 Of course they do.
19:56 --> 19:58 Oh, wow.
19:58 --> 20:00 Like, there's the guys—
20:00 --> 20:00 I'm mad.
20:00 --> 20:06 A little bit, yeah. There's like the guys that stack up in 4 before they like jump out at you.
20:06 --> 20:06 Yeah.
20:06 --> 20:07 Yeah.
20:07 --> 20:10 They stop stacking. Oh.
20:10 --> 20:12 They just jump at you. They just leap at you.
20:12 --> 20:29 Yeah, they just, like, they all just come out and like leapfrog at you instead of like actually stacking on each other. It's, it's stuff like that. The game teaches you one thing through the first 20 levels and then through the last 7, they're like, nah, we gotta get more quarters outta you, dude.
20:29 --> 20:31 So forget everything you've learned.
20:31 --> 20:34 There's something you, yeah, you thought you knew.
20:35 --> 20:36 It sucks.
20:36 --> 20:40 Welcome to, welcome to high school, kid.
20:40 --> 20:51 Yeah. I was gonna make a comment. Yeah. I went to, I went to a parochial school growing up and then I got to high school and they're like, okay. We need to have a talk. Let's reset some things.
20:52 --> 20:54 Audibly, this is a super obnoxious game.
20:55 --> 20:55 Oh yeah.
20:56 --> 20:57 It's just a constant.
20:57 --> 20:57 Ah!
20:57 --> 20:57 Ah!
20:57 --> 20:58 Yeah.
20:58 --> 21:00 That was the '80s though.
21:01 --> 21:04 That one tune that dun da da dun da da dun da da.
21:05 --> 21:10 Bro, you swing a disc shield around and tell me that you ain't gonna grunt. I challenge you.
21:11 --> 21:11 Yes.
21:11 --> 21:13 And then you'll have bad play around.
21:13 --> 21:26 You'll hit a point where there's waterfalls. And you just hear the static of a waterfall. Like they recorded real sounds and then they were like, all right, digitize it, bitcrush it to hell and make it loud.
21:26 --> 21:34 Compress it, compress it real hard. Uh, yeah, we have filters for that. I know.
21:34 --> 21:42 I thought the music was pretty good. I think that's a, that's a theme song that you can hear a mile away. It reminds me of like Conan the Barbarian or something. It, it, it hits. I think it's pretty good.
21:42 --> 21:43 As you approach—
21:43 --> 21:53 Rygar, it's like 4 bars. Which, you know, I'm I think we understand Mario RPG a little more now.
21:53 --> 21:56 Yeah. I was going to say there's a taste of music.
21:56 --> 22:02 Those 4 bars just, just really fucking sell it.
22:02 --> 22:04 Just like, man, they come out swinging.
22:04 --> 22:07 And it's better than the 2-bar that we have.
22:08 --> 22:09 Yeah.
22:09 --> 22:16 We have a 2-bar repeating thing forever in like the stage or the continue box for Mega Man 2, right? Or Mega Man 3.
22:16 --> 22:16 Yeah.
22:17 --> 22:19 So no, yes, Rygar all the way with her 4 bars. Love it.
22:19 --> 22:22 At least there's a 4th bar.
22:22 --> 22:23 Right.
22:23 --> 22:28 He splurged for the 4th with all that quarter revenue.
22:28 --> 22:33 Admittedly, the NES soundtrack is awesome.
22:33 --> 22:49 Oh yeah. I was actually going to say, like, they, I'm pretty sure one of the songs in the NES game used that beat for the bottom of another song, right? For the back of another song. 'Cause they were like, well, that's a strong beat. Let's turn it into something worth listening to.
22:49 --> 22:54 An epic soundtrack that was built upon to greatness, but it could not—
22:54 --> 22:54 Build your—
22:54 --> 22:56 Out of those foundational 4 bars.
22:56 --> 22:59 Don't build your soundtrack on sand. Sandy beats.
22:59 --> 23:02 Don't shame my song's bottom end, okay?
23:02 --> 23:05 I don't know.
23:05 --> 23:17 But yeah, the NES game had a great soundtrack. The arcade game, There were decisions made with that game's sound design, and I question all of them.
23:17 --> 23:22 Yeah, and legend says that you get a new track when you make it to level 21.
23:22 --> 23:25 No. Do you know?
23:25 --> 23:26 Oh, that was mistaken.
23:26 --> 23:27 It starts over when you die.
23:27 --> 23:30 So I, I save stated to hell through this game.
23:30 --> 23:31 Sure.
23:31 --> 23:31 As you do.
23:31 --> 23:34 Yeah. Was there bosses?
23:34 --> 23:36 So I actually made it to the—
23:36 --> 23:38 Yes. There's a boss at the end.
23:38 --> 23:39 Okay.
23:39 --> 23:51 There is a boss at the end. That's a joke, but there's a boss at the end. There's actually like the mini boss dudes at the end of some stages, the big blue guys that jump back and forth, right? They're harder than the final boss by a lot.
23:51 --> 23:52 Okay.
23:53 --> 23:53 Okay.
23:53 --> 24:22 And there's stages where there's 2 of them at the end. So that's really hard along with a bunch of other things coming at you way harder than the final boss itself. You get into the room with the final boss and where it sets Rygar. You don't have to move. He can't touch you. He literally just has the same jumping back and forth. That's it. Just constantly missing your hitbox. Doesn't shoot anything at you. Just jumps around. Like, as long as you're not standing about where he stands, you're fine.
24:22 --> 24:22 Get Rygar.
24:22 --> 24:26 So he, he learned how to fight you from House of Pain.
24:26 --> 24:27 Yeah.
24:27 --> 24:28 Yeah.
24:28 --> 24:40 Yes. You know what it is? It's just that Temp goes like, you know what? I got $300 in quarters from this kid. Just, Just give him the, just give him an easy boss fight. Let him finish the game. We got it. We got our money. He'll never play this again.
24:40 --> 24:52 Yeah. The final fight is, the final fight is a, is really a gimme because you get into that room. If your timer counts down to zero, you don't die. You just keep going. Like it just, it doesn't stop. The fight continues.
24:52 --> 25:05 So if that's the case, if somebody were to be an asshole, it could happen. Child's an asshole, goes to an arcade, spends $300 on Rygar, gets to the final boss, and then just Walks away, is the machine softlocked?
25:05 --> 25:06 Ooh.
25:06 --> 25:10 No, because you can—
25:10 --> 25:10 there's a timer.
25:10 --> 25:19 Like, you can still run into the boss and die or kill him. It's just that the timer— like, the timer doesn't freeze the game. It's when it hits zero, the fight just keeps going.
25:19 --> 25:20 Just keeps going.
25:20 --> 25:21 It's called Schroedinger's game over.
25:21 --> 25:23 Which is—
25:23 --> 25:24 I think that's by design.
25:24 --> 25:29 I like it. Kind of surprising because you get to the end of the stage, Schroedinger's cabinet, maybe Yes.
25:29 --> 25:55 You know, the first time I got to the final boss, I had like 7 seconds on the clock and it freaked me out. And I was like, oh no, no. And I started running around and he jumped on me and killed me. And then the second time I had 5 seconds on the clock and I was like, I just sat there and he didn't jump on me and I just let it go. And then the timer hit zero and he was still just jumping back. I was like, wow, this fight is, uh, they're like, all right, you made it this far. Just take it.
25:55 --> 25:58 Yeah, I, I do got a question on the arcade mode.
25:59 --> 25:59 Sorry.
25:59 --> 26:06 Sorry. It was just, um, did you guys figure out the power-ups in this game? Like you get these pickups. No, I, I didn't know what the hell they were for.
26:06 --> 26:10 I, I know there's the, I know there's the explodey one that kills everything on the screen.
26:10 --> 26:15 There's the explodey one. There's like a shield expansion one too that like gives it blue spikes or something at the end of it.
26:15 --> 26:15 Yeah.
26:15 --> 26:20 But there's, but I never got enough of them to, to matter. So I don't know what the other ones do.
26:20 --> 26:32 Like I said, I save stated to hell through this game, so I figured out what these things were. I also went and looked it up on a, like a guide page. So there's the 5 that are sort of collectible that fill up your inventory at the bottom.
26:32 --> 26:32 Right.
26:32 --> 26:46 And then there's a ton of them that are just points. Like if you get 7 stars, then you're awarded 70 points. Some of the gems give you like 5. Some of them give you 200. Some of them give you 500, whatever. They're just all over the board.
26:46 --> 26:49 Like adventure reward fruit. Yeah.
26:49 --> 26:52 There's the one that looks like an explosion that just blows everything up.
26:53 --> 26:53 That's your POW.
26:53 --> 26:54 And then there's—
26:54 --> 26:55 As you do.
26:55 --> 27:15 Yeah. And then there's 5. There's one that's like a tiger's head, one that's a crown, one that's disc armor. Um, I don't remember what the other one was. And then there's one that's a lightning bolt or yeah, maybe a cross. I don't know. Uh, but basically one of them makes your disc armor shoot all the way across to the end of the screen.
27:15 --> 27:16 Oh, okay.
27:16 --> 27:29 So it expands how far he shoots. Uh, one of them makes it to where instead of when you up attack, instead of swinging it around him, it shoots straight up until you let go of up and then it shoots out forward again.
27:29 --> 27:31 Oh, okay.
27:31 --> 27:34 So it gives you a weird sort of control over the up attack.
27:34 --> 27:35 Huh.
27:35 --> 27:38 Um, was that— that doesn't sound useful.
27:38 --> 27:41 Yeah, I like the original up attack.
27:41 --> 27:47 It doesn't, but it was. It became really useful in later stages where there's a lot of things directly above you.
27:47 --> 27:48 Okay.
27:48 --> 27:52 But the, the swing doesn't reach, but that thing goes way up, so it helps.
27:52 --> 27:54 Um, 90-degree chain.
27:55 --> 28:07 Yeah, there's like a bat that constantly flies above you, and if you don't kill him, he drops little things at you while you're climbing up or down. And so if you just kill him every couple times he passes, he never gets to drop anything. He just keeps coming back.
28:07 --> 28:21 It was weird when I was playing the— there's certain sections where it's vertical, you climb a rope, and there's that asshole who drops things on the little guys on you. And eventually I realized while on the rope, you can lean left or right to swing the rope and avoid the things dropping on you.
28:21 --> 28:21 Yeah.
28:21 --> 28:25 And then get hit by the chameleons or toads or tongues, whatever the fuck are there.
28:25 --> 28:26 Yeah.
28:26 --> 28:28 Yeah. This game likes to eat quarters.
28:28 --> 28:29 Yeah.
28:30 --> 28:31 It's brutal.
28:31 --> 28:49 Oh, that's what it was. Okay. So the one that looks like a disc armor is the one that, um, gives you control over the vertical attack. Uh, one increases your range. That's the star power. The crown. Makes your weapon go through multiple enemies so you can kill multiple enemies with one attack.
28:49 --> 28:49 Oh, piercing. Oh, there we go.
28:49 --> 28:51 Instead of bam, bam, bam, bam, bam.
28:51 --> 28:51 Reversal.
28:51 --> 28:58 It's piercing, yes. One, the tiger power lets you kill any enemy instantly by jumping on it.
28:58 --> 29:00 Oh, okay.
29:00 --> 29:02 The pounce is super handy at ending.
29:02 --> 29:07 Yeah, I was gonna say, 'cause when you jump and pounce on them at the beginning of the game, they just pause.
29:07 --> 29:07 It stuns them.
29:07 --> 29:08 They just pause.
29:08 --> 29:09 Yeah.
29:10 --> 29:10 Although that's—
29:10 --> 29:11 Like in the NES game.
29:11 --> 29:19 I, I, yeah, I did that as a— that was, that was actually my primary, like, uh, strategy was just bounce across the enemies as fast as I could.
29:19 --> 29:24 Yeah, you could, you could hopscotch on them, like multiple enemies just to get past them. It was pretty handy.
29:24 --> 29:26 Yeah. You give them concussions. It's a slow death.
29:26 --> 29:42 Yeah. The last upgrade was the last power-up that's technically collectible, um, is invincibility. And when you get it, it's a cross. It's either— it gives you 10 to 45 seconds of invincibility.
29:42 --> 29:44 Oh, 10 to— okay, sweet.
29:44 --> 29:46 And it's random?
29:46 --> 29:48 Yeah.
29:48 --> 29:49 Okay.
29:49 --> 29:53 The first time I got it, it was 45 seconds. It held through for like a stage and a half.
29:53 --> 29:54 You're like, this is awesome.
29:54 --> 29:56 Which was great. I was just like, I'm just gonna go.
29:56 --> 29:58 Just run, just run.
29:58 --> 30:03 The second time I got it, it was 20 seconds. So it only lasted that half a stage I was in.
30:04 --> 30:10 Did you know that before, before getting that? Because otherwise that's just basically what you're saying with the stack up bad guys.
30:10 --> 30:11 Yeah, right.
30:11 --> 30:13 Yeah. Give them the free experience. Give them, give them the good stuff.
30:13 --> 30:15 It's a gamble. Just throwing the dice.
30:15 --> 30:24 Yeah, no, I, I didn't know that the first time I got it. I knew it the second time, but I was like, ah, only 20 seconds. That sucks.
30:24 --> 30:26 Oh, wow.
30:26 --> 30:29 And the timer keeps counting down between stages.
30:30 --> 30:30 Right.
30:30 --> 30:30 Yeah.
30:30 --> 30:36 So while it's doing the score tally and all that, the timer is still counting down on your invincibility, which is horseshit.
30:37 --> 30:40 Okay. While you're riding the urns.
30:40 --> 30:41 Yeah.
30:42 --> 30:43 Your horse door.
30:43 --> 30:47 Your horse door. That's, that's called a barn door.
30:48 --> 30:49 Oh, is that what that is?
30:49 --> 30:51 That's the most Swedish chef sounding thing I've ever heard.
30:52 --> 30:52 Horse door.
30:53 --> 30:54 Horse door. Horse door.
30:55 --> 30:56 When your horse a door.
30:57 --> 31:04 I need to bring up Rosie more. That was my favorite press B moment of all time just now. I made an offhand Muppet comment. We all stopped for 30 seconds.
31:06 --> 31:06 Muppet.
31:07 --> 31:07 Menomina.
31:09 --> 31:09 No, no.
31:09 --> 31:13 And then there's a PS2 game.
31:14 --> 31:15 That's great.
31:15 --> 31:24 So then there's the PS2 Rygar, which I'm a dork. So when I saw this release on the PS2, I bought it.
31:25 --> 31:25 Yeah.
31:25 --> 31:33 Heck yeah. Like I was, I didn't know it was coming, but I was at GameStop and there it was in the new release section. I was like, okay, I got to get this.
31:33 --> 31:34 This was 2002.
31:34 --> 31:35 I like the NES game.
31:35 --> 31:35 Yeah.
31:36 --> 31:36 2002.
31:37 --> 31:38 Something like that. Yeah.
31:38 --> 31:38 Yeah.
31:38 --> 31:48 So after work one day I wandered into a GameStop and there it was on the shelf and I was like, okay, I'm gonna buy this and took it home and it was decent. It was actually pretty good.
31:48 --> 31:49 Um, it's.
31:50 --> 31:59 It definitely shows its age, even for PS2, uh, like against other PS2 library games, but it's a decent game.
31:59 --> 32:08 The voice acting. I, I'm not kidding. I listened to some of those voice acted bits and I was like, someone is literally just reading off the page.
32:08 --> 32:09 There is.
32:09 --> 32:12 But that is PS2 era though. They all had bad voice acting.
32:12 --> 32:23 Yeah. Please, not all of them, but a good majority of them were real, real bad. We joke about Silent Hill 2's voice acting and it's It's bad. It's really bad.
32:23 --> 32:23 Yeah.
32:24 --> 32:35 Like, this is, this is worse than The Room. And, you know, at least in The Room he's like, you're tearing me apart, Lisa. Oh, hi, Mark. This would be like, you're tearing me apart, Lisa. Oh, hi, Mark.
32:35 --> 32:46 At the end of Rhaegar, when you find out his real name is Caesarion, the woman who says it is dying and she goes, Caesarion.
32:48 --> 32:48 Caesarean.
32:48 --> 32:55 It's like you were trying to pronounce Caesarean and you didn't have the strength the first time. Why did you straight up say Caesar instead?
32:55 --> 32:57 Because they're like, he's not a salad.
32:57 --> 33:02 You can only afford one take back then. That's just how they did voice acting for the PS2 era.
33:02 --> 33:04 We gotta go, guys.
33:04 --> 33:04 Let's go.
33:04 --> 33:05 We gotta go.
33:05 --> 33:05 Just say it again.
33:05 --> 33:07 Say it again.
33:07 --> 33:10 Get off the mic. Your turn's up on the mic.
33:10 --> 33:46 Yeah. And I know like this game is really like Visually, it's not the most stunning game. There's a lot of browns and a lot of greens and, you know, like they went like it fits, but they went like, they really went for that look of like ancient Greece, ancient Rome kind of look where, you know, it's, it's columns and lots of caves and dirt and earth. And, you know, sometimes you're in an area that looks a little different, but most of it is a lot of just rocky caverns. Or mountain passes or something like that.
33:46 --> 33:49 Well, and it's a good rocky cavern.
33:50 --> 33:51 Yeah.
33:51 --> 33:52 It's a cave.
33:52 --> 34:22 The NES one took place on an alien planet, I'm assuming, Argool, right? For 55 billion years in the future or whatever. But then the PS2 one, the story is flipped around and takes place just after the invasion of, uh, Roman invasion of Egypt, I think is what I saw. So it's like, yes, Xena: Warrior Princess time. Like it's definitely a, Well, maybe no, it's not that, but anyway, it's, it's ancient Rome. So, but that setting does fit. And I felt the graphics were pretty good. I think for PS2, maybe I have glasses for the PS2, but I thought it looked pretty good and played pretty good.
34:22 --> 35:08 But that was kind of the beginning of the era of games being like really looking for realistic looking areas over, uh, interesting looking areas. So like it's, it's a, it's a bit of a shortfall in my opinion, just because you're playing a video game. You want to see shit that looks cool. And you do get that at the end. You get like the floating rocks with the badass background. And that actually kind of reminded me of late NES Rygar, where, you know, you climb up the tower and you see the, the, the Tiger Island floating in the distance in the, in the sky, or, you know, you're in other areas where you're, you can clearly see you're in the sky and you see stuff in the background. And it's interesting. But that was the most visually appealing part of the game to me. Yeah.
35:09 --> 35:26 Can I point out how heavy Rygar's footsteps are in PlayStation 2 era? The man stomps around like every child, like if he had an apartment, everyone would complain. That fucking guy is the loudest walker I've ever heard. It's insane how loud the walking is.
35:26 --> 35:31 That was why they had to get the people off the microphone so that they could record the stomping noises.
35:31 --> 35:39 I swear to God, it's like. They want to prove how strong he is by making him crush the ground beneath him as he walks.
35:39 --> 35:40 It's insanity.
35:41 --> 35:46 And the camera angles in that game are— it's, again, it's a camera angle boss kind of game a little bit.
35:46 --> 35:46 Yeah.
35:46 --> 36:53 Because they just pop. A lot of enemies will pop up. They tried like the waves like they did in the NES and in the arcade. There are sections of the PS2 game where it just felt like there were just waves coming at you. And they did the Devil May Cry like locked room thing where they do this cool little force shield, locks you out of going into the next room and then all these things start popping up. But it was before they understood that when you're playing a character, they're usually— the eyes are usually in front of them, not behind them. So I don't know why I'm looking at things distance behind me and I'm attacking things in front of me. There was a lot of, um, missteps on that. But I mean, it was pretty— that's pretty standard for earlier PlayStation 2 games. So it wasn't all that shocking playing it. But playing it now, when I played it back then, because I was like Wolf when I saw Rygar and a Greek Rygar type or Roman Rygar type game. I was like, sold, bought, purchase, play. This is awesome. Because I'm a big Devil May Cry fan too, and I'm pretty sure they were around the same general time frame. Yeah, before though. So that's— this is probably before, but I think I played them around the same time.
36:53 --> 37:06 Honestly, this, this reminded me— I know that, I know there's a lot of that like, hey, this looks like God of War, but it, to me, it also looked a lot like, uh, the, the Prince of Persia 3D games, like Sands of Time.
37:06 --> 37:09 Absolutely. That's, that's a great, that's another great thought of it.
37:09 --> 37:13 And that is a game where the camera just defeats you over and over again.
37:13 --> 37:28 Yep. It's the same. It's the same, like overhead, try to be 3D, but you can't move the camera even though it wants to move for you. And every time you change a scene, like the worst thing is when you're walking, you're pressing forward on the stick and you're walking and then the scene changes.
37:28 --> 37:28 Yeah.
37:28 --> 37:47 It said you're pushing forward, you start walking backwards, and then you go back to the scene where the thing's backwards. So you're just walking in between the goddamn scenes because you don't have enough time to change your direction. And I'm like, I already know what's in this room. Please let me— please. It's the thing that, that we talked about in an earlier episode about hindering my ability to move forward.
37:47 --> 37:47 Yep.
37:47 --> 37:50 Yeah. Devil May Cry was a year earlier.
37:50 --> 37:52 So, okay. That's what I thought.
37:52 --> 37:56 They probably got the lock you in a room thing from that.
37:56 --> 38:15 And Sands of Time was a year after. So it's kind of like, okay, it's kind of all nested together, but it was before Devil— uh, it was before God of War, which is interesting. 'Cause when I first played this game, I'm like, oh, it's, it's a God of War ripoff. Like, nope, it's actually before God of War. But I, I dug the combat. I mean, is it the best PS2 game? Uh, no, but it's still—
38:15 --> 38:16 But it's fun.
38:16 --> 38:16 Fun.
38:16 --> 38:16 Yeah.
38:16 --> 38:17 It's decent.
38:17 --> 38:19 The boss is really cool too, right? Like it's, it's a lot going on.
38:19 --> 38:19 Yeah.
38:19 --> 38:23 The boss designs were interesting. The boss fights were interesting. The music was—
38:23 --> 38:25 They got the big bosses too. I liked that. That was neat.
38:25 --> 38:26 Screen filling. Yeah.
38:26 --> 38:41 The music in this was like very on point for the type of game they were making. Lots of, you know, horns and big orchestra sounding music. I just wish it actually like paid homage to the NES soundtrack a little bit.
38:42 --> 38:42 Right.
38:42 --> 38:48 Because it's all just sort of like, it's, it's tunes that you can't really remember. It's just sort of background music.
38:48 --> 38:54 It's missing those 4 foundational bars that we praise so much in the arcade game that we love so much.
38:54 --> 38:55 It doesn't have those.
38:55 --> 38:56 You left yourself open, Wolf.
38:56 --> 39:00 It has an awful bottom end.
39:00 --> 39:04 It's worth watching. I want to remember it so bad that we hate about it later.
39:04 --> 39:13 So do we know for a fact that this is designed to be a Rygar PS2 game or was this like a Doki Doki sort of thing?
39:13 --> 39:14 A rebrand? Was this a reskin?
39:14 --> 39:16 No, it was actually Rygar.
39:16 --> 39:17 Yeah.
39:17 --> 39:17 Okay.
39:17 --> 39:19 Yeah, I think that was the intent this whole time.
39:19 --> 39:27 I was thinking maybe, maybe they were doing like, uh, this is gonna be the new Metal Gear game, but then they couldn't figure out how to like silence the footsteps. So they're like, well, we can't do that.
39:27 --> 39:29 Yeah. So just throw a disarm around and fuck 'em.
39:29 --> 39:38 Maybe, maybe they started a Metal Gear game and had these urns that became doors and they were like, it's a Rygar game now.
39:38 --> 39:46 We can— every, every time he tries to hide in the urn, he just walks around it in a circle. So you know what? Rygar used to do that. Let's give him, let's put him in fucking Rome.
39:47 --> 39:48 We just need some horse doors.
39:48 --> 39:50 Some horse doors.
39:50 --> 39:55 What was the Ninja Gaiden reboot? Was that PS2 as well?
39:55 --> 39:56 Sigma?
39:56 --> 40:00 Uh, that was Xbox original. That was Xbox original.
40:00 --> 40:01 Yeah, I had it on Xbox.
40:01 --> 40:02 Oh, I'm way ahead.
40:02 --> 40:17 That's Temco, right? Yeah, Koei Temco. So I'm wondering if they were just looking at their back catalog of arcade titles and then like, oh, well, we did a port on the NES 20 years ago. Let's do a PS2 game. Let's do an Xbox game. Maybe that's what it is. That's, it's a weird pull.
40:17 --> 40:21 There's always a resurgence, right? I mean, yeah, sorry, keep going, Jake. I didn't mean to talk over you.
40:21 --> 40:35 Keep going. No, just like we never had a Super Nintendo Rygar or Genesis. It was, it was literally NES to fucking PS2. And then 7 years later we got a Wii version of the PS2 game for some reason, right? Like it's, it's big gaps in terms of what they did with Rygar.
40:35 --> 40:41 Well, let's talk about like, for another example, we could talk about like Kid Icarus, like, right?
40:41 --> 40:41 Same.
40:41 --> 40:49 It's the same concept. Like we know Pit, we've heard about Pit. Everybody knows Kid Icarus. Was there any more games made after that? No, not until what, the Wii?
40:49 --> 40:50 God of War.
40:50 --> 40:55 He was, he was in Smash Brothers for God's sakes. And then they made him into like a shooter, like a flight shooter.
40:55 --> 40:56 Yeah.
40:56 --> 40:56 He got a—
40:57 --> 41:01 was it, was it on Wii or was it, I know it was on DS. Were there 2 different versions?
41:01 --> 41:02 It was on 3DS.
41:02 --> 41:03 It might've been the DS.
41:03 --> 41:05 'Cause you got the circle pad add-on for the 3DS.
41:05 --> 41:06 Yeah, that's right.
41:06 --> 41:06 That was a joke thing.
41:06 --> 41:07 Yeah.
41:07 --> 41:21 How many years was that? I mean, that was a hot minute. A while now. Yeah. But everybody's like, he's still in Smash Brothers. Why haven't we got a new Kid Icarus game? And why didn't they do something like, I don't know, it'd be cool to have a cool 3D Kid Icarus game.
41:22 --> 41:31 Was that Sakurai did, did the Kid Icarus Rising? I think it was probably because we gave him, because we gave him Kirby's Air Ride. So maybe we're due for another Kid Icarus game.
41:31 --> 41:34 It's just, can we get Caesar in Smash Brothers, please?
41:34 --> 41:36 Caesar. Caesar. Yeah.
41:36 --> 41:38 Caesar. Caesar.
41:38 --> 41:39 First name, last name.
41:39 --> 41:41 Yes. That was a Sakurai game.
41:42 --> 41:44 Yeah, that doesn't surprise me.
41:44 --> 41:50 When did this become a game about, about births? Cesarean?
41:50 --> 41:50 Yeah.
41:50 --> 42:01 Well, look, look, when you have disc armor and needed to give birth at a distance, let me tell you how useful that is. You saw that thing right open. I've seen Twilight. It works. It's fine.
42:01 --> 42:06 Do you guys know how the chainsaw was invented? Different day.
42:07 --> 42:11 That's a different day. Put your friend in the wood chipper there.
42:13 --> 42:16 Um, you should have seen the other guy. Okay, you should have seen the other guy.
42:18 --> 42:19 But, uh, that disc armor—
42:19 --> 42:22 I can't hear the words wood chipper without thinking of Tucker and Dale. I'm sorry.
42:23 --> 42:24 Yeah, yeah.
42:25 --> 42:25 Versus evil.
42:25 --> 42:34 Disc armor as a weapon is pretty unique. It's not quite Captain America because it's on a chain. It's a yo-yo and it's covered in spiked blades. I don't know why it's called disc armor.
42:35 --> 42:39 I, I was gonna ask, that can, that can arm you. It's armed.
42:39 --> 42:44 Except for if you, if you're, if you're, if you're not shooting it and something touches you, you die.
42:44 --> 42:45 You die.
42:46 --> 42:46 Yeah.
42:46 --> 42:46 Yeah.
42:46 --> 42:51 You could, but you could shield yourself in the PS2 version. They made it a shield in the PS2 version.
42:51 --> 42:52 You could block that.
42:52 --> 42:53 Yeah.
42:53 --> 42:53 Okay.
42:53 --> 43:03 You could armor yourself with, uh, facial tissues. I don't want to name, you know, brand names. Is it going to be effective? No. But is it armor?
43:03 --> 43:05 It's a form of armor.
43:05 --> 43:08 And if you put it on your arm and fling it out, is it going to hit things?
43:09 --> 43:20 No. What I'm saying is there's no difference between facial tissue and— yeah, no, I have no idea. I didn't think it through. Again, devil's advocate. Anytime we're going to talk smack on something, I'm going to try to think, okay, how is this—
43:20 --> 43:23 Listen, aloe vera, very useful tool.
43:23 --> 43:24 Yeah.
43:24 --> 43:27 Future sponsor of the podcast, aloe vera and Kleenex.
43:28 --> 43:32 So they're— those— the horizontal rooms are full of aloe vera.
43:32 --> 43:36 I, I'm so pale that aloe vera works for anywhere between 20 to 45 seconds.
43:36 --> 43:39 Yes, that's true.
43:39 --> 43:39 Yes.
43:39 --> 43:44 10 to 45 seconds.
43:44 --> 43:45 10 to 45 seconds.
43:45 --> 43:55 So, uh, yeah, this, like, this was a decent game. And then it got a port 6 years later.
43:57 --> 43:57 Yeah.
43:57 --> 43:58 To the Wii.
43:58 --> 43:58 Yeah.
43:59 --> 43:59 Yeah.
44:00 --> 44:02 With, with what was, what was the big change?
44:03 --> 44:06 Super Saiyan hair. Super Saiyan hair.
44:07 --> 44:07 Yeah.
44:07 --> 44:22 They're like, we gotta jump on this like ultra emo looking protagonist. So they gave him like the super spiked white hair that looks stupid. For some reason they really rounded his jaw. I don't understand why they did that.
44:23 --> 44:25 He's there's a lot of good food in.
44:27 --> 44:31 He had a lot of Caesar salads, and moving forward they changed his last name.
44:31 --> 44:56 They changed out Vegeta, Cesare and Vegeta, and then they changed Kakarot. They changed his armor from like the leather sort of you know warrior toga he was wearing into a. What, like metal and leather, just black and white armor. And then they also made the disc armor like super black and white and edgy, right?
44:57 --> 44:57 Yeah.
44:57 --> 45:02 Thinking, oh, this'll be so cool. And then they didn't change. They didn't improve any of the game mechanically.
45:02 --> 45:05 Listen, listen, Rygar was going—
45:05 --> 45:05 bombed.
45:06 --> 45:09 Rygar was going through his teenage angst era. Okay.
45:09 --> 45:11 It's not a phase, mom.
45:11 --> 45:28 Yeah. He looks like he's about to go tell his parents to shut up. I've got the picture pulled up because I haven't seen it. But you know what? As I'm looking at this, dude is pretty much topless. So yeah, the disc is kind of the most armor that he has. I mean, and he's like, this is upsetting.
45:28 --> 45:33 So, and then railed Caesar.
45:33 --> 45:39 Char, do you want to mention this next thing? Because I pointed it out and you said you noticed it too.
45:39 --> 45:40 Oh yeah.
45:41 --> 45:41 Yes.
45:41 --> 45:42 Princess Harmonia.
45:43 --> 45:49 Yeah. The first 5 minutes I turned this on and there's the Princess Harmonia and I was like, that's Britney Spears, dude.
45:49 --> 45:50 Yeah.
45:50 --> 46:08 That is Britney. That is Britney freaking Spears. Like, so if, if Kojima had his soul collecting machine, she would be stuck in there because that was an exact replica. I was like, well, look at the time, dude. It was the early 2000s. She was very popular back then. So, I mean, it's like spot on. I was like, yo, okay.
46:08 --> 46:09 Yeah.
46:09 --> 46:20 Yeah. And then there's like a sort of music video, right? There's like a music video-ish segment in the beginning of the credits where it's like, did it again.
46:20 --> 46:21 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
46:21 --> 46:25 She looks even more like Britney in those, that music video.
46:25 --> 46:26 Oh, Ragnar. Oh, Ragnar.
46:26 --> 46:28 I gotta get this game, guys.
46:28 --> 46:32 It's terrible. It's like spot on. I was like, no way.
46:33 --> 46:33 Yeah.
46:33 --> 46:37 Come on, guys. She could sue for illegal property on that one.
46:37 --> 46:38 I know, right?
46:38 --> 46:46 Well, the options were, were Steve stealing the, the Britney, uh, property or, or Mary-Kate and Ashley, and they were threatening.
46:46 --> 46:55 So that's true, they were scary. But you had, uh, Chris— you had Aguilera too. She was quite threatening in that entire— she hadn't gotten to her, her ex-Dina phase yet.
46:55 --> 47:03 Yeah, they couldn't use her because her outfit was the same as Rhaegar's. So they're like, no, no, we gave him the fit.
47:03 --> 47:05 That's where the white hair came from.
47:05 --> 47:06 Yeah, there you go.
47:06 --> 47:07 And the, and the strap.
47:07 --> 47:07 Makes all sense now.
47:08 --> 47:08 Yeah.
47:08 --> 47:11 Yeah. Zardoz. We're back to Zardoz.
47:11 --> 47:17 Yeah. What makes him a little bit stronger? Look, thanks for making him a fighter.
47:17 --> 47:18 This shit doesn't happen.
47:18 --> 47:26 I feel like I need— yeah. Uh, GP, I don't know if you saw that picture of the, the Britney Spears looking princess.
47:26 --> 47:27 Oh yeah.
47:27 --> 47:28 I put it in the production discussion.
47:29 --> 47:29 Yeah.
47:29 --> 47:30 It is absurd.
47:30 --> 47:32 Let me flip over to that.
47:33 --> 47:38 I'm gonna go ahead and drop that in the newest episode discussion for people to see.
47:38 --> 47:42 Yeah, it's, it's, yeah, it's crazy.
47:42 --> 47:47 I, I think, I think Chard nailed it with the oh, Rygar, Rygar, Rygar, Rygar.
47:48 --> 47:55 So, you know, you can search it or you can join our Discord, wink wink, and go see it in the newest episode discussion.
47:56 --> 48:01 Yeah, our Discord did not have last time we discussed this game. So, no, we did not. Progress.
48:01 --> 48:03 It'll be another 7 years. So get on it now.
48:03 --> 48:04 Yeah.
48:04 --> 48:05 It's a series.
48:05 --> 48:06 How long has it been paused on that screen?
48:08 --> 48:11 Like, uh, that is the most paused screen in Rygar.
48:11 --> 48:16 You don't, we don't turn it. We don't turn the console off because we'll lose our save game.
48:16 --> 48:20 Yeah. Somewhere out there, there's a CRT with that image burned in.
48:20 --> 48:24 Yeah. Yeah. Why do you have Britney Spears on your TV? Don't ask.
48:25 --> 48:27 It's Princess Harmonia.
48:27 --> 48:29 It's Harmonia. Thank you.
48:29 --> 48:31 I love Rygar. You know I'm a big Rygar fan.
48:31 --> 48:35 Actually, Britney Spears is in a bit of a tussle. Thank you.
48:35 --> 48:50 So I have a question. Since, since we're, since we're doing episode 1 rehash for 7 years, uh, is our next episode gonna be, um, pregame, uh, superstitions?
48:51 --> 48:54 I mean, we should just start over, right? Yeah, we should just start over.
48:54 --> 48:56 Just, just loop. No, you know why?
48:56 --> 49:11 I'll tell you why. Because the 3rd episode, I believe, was Mario, Mario Panic. And the reason I'm doing a Mario show on my own, guys, is because you guys are full of wrong fucking opinions on games. So we would disagree. So I'm not revisiting episode 3.
49:11 --> 49:12 Someone's—
49:12 --> 49:34 listen, someone's gonna be like Werewolf and they're gonna come to YouTube and they're gonna see a new version of the Rieger episode and they're going to be like, fucking sold, followed, subscribed, and liked. Because I remember the 7 years ago episode and now there's these 2 idiots that have joined that weren't there before with white hair and balding. Let's go. We're sold.
49:34 --> 49:40 I'm in. So, wait, what is this wrong opinion we have about Mario 2?
49:40 --> 49:41 I'm curious. We did like Mario.
49:41 --> 49:52 We did a bracket episode about Mario before and I don't even remember what I disagree with you guys on. All I remember is I was really upset that you guys are wrong and I'm not revisiting those highlights.
49:52 --> 49:53 They don't even have proof.
49:54 --> 49:57 So I'll break Mario on my own. I don't want to talk about it anymore in a group setting.
49:58 --> 50:00 Jake, I have a question.
50:00 --> 50:04 I will say I watched one of your recent ones and I was like, no, you're wrong.
50:04 --> 50:07 No, I know you guys are wrong.
50:07 --> 50:09 Jake, Jake, I have a question.
50:09 --> 50:11 Yeah.
50:11 --> 50:14 When are you not angry? At our, at our appearance.
50:14 --> 50:16 That's, that's a, that's a secret to the star.
50:16 --> 50:17 That's true.
50:17 --> 50:18 He's always angry.
50:18 --> 50:21 Dark pepper, bags of milk. It's just, it never ends.
50:21 --> 50:22 Sick Jake and bad takes.
50:23 --> 50:25 Yeah, right, right.
50:25 --> 50:31 I'm gonna start a new podcast. Me and Idris Elba are gonna do a show together. He'll spin the tunes.
50:31 --> 50:35 If you're, uh, watching, I know we got Isaac Asimov next week.
50:35 --> 50:39 Yeah, I'll dig him up. Yeah, I'll disc armor him up.
50:39 --> 50:40 Yeah.
50:40 --> 50:43 Oh, shit.
50:43 --> 50:43 Oh yeah.
50:43 --> 50:49 I wanted to mention one of the things at the beginning of this game, the writing in the PS2/Wii game is so bad.
50:49 --> 50:50 You can't read it.
50:50 --> 51:04 It's, it starts where like this, this horrible thing happens and giant monsters show up right at the very beginning of the game. And he's like, what is this from my dream? And the woman that's with these monsters is like, no. Like, how does she know?
51:04 --> 51:06 No. Nope.
51:06 --> 51:17 She just showed up. He's never seen her as far as he knows. And she's like, no, no, these are tight. We're Titans. He dreamed about the Titans.
51:17 --> 51:19 No, remember the Titans?
51:19 --> 51:21 Uh, yeah, yeah.
51:21 --> 51:21 She—
51:21 --> 51:25 how does she know his dream? Maybe they absolutely were. That's a good point.
51:25 --> 51:27 Yeah, yeah. Why is she so judgy?
51:28 --> 51:30 How do you dream shame Rygar?
51:31 --> 51:33 This could be our last—
51:33 --> 51:35 she's got great takes about Mario games. Why is she judging?
51:35 --> 51:36 Wow.
51:36 --> 51:40 You know, also, you and the Titans gonna do a Mario review, Jake?
51:41 --> 51:42 They might. They might.
51:42 --> 51:58 I, I, this is partially a question, but really this is more of us giving ourselves flowers from 7 years ago. Of all of the famous franchises and important games in video game history, what possessed us to start our debut episode with Die Hard?
51:58 --> 52:08 I wanted to ask you guys that. Being outside looking in, obviously now I get to look out from the inside, which is fun. But I never understood why that check.
52:08 --> 52:09 Yeah.
52:09 --> 52:18 Why Rygar was like, guys, you know what I really, really want to talk about for our first podcast episode? Fucking John Rygar.
52:19 --> 52:21 What are they talking about on the streets right now?
52:21 --> 52:21 Hold on.
52:21 --> 52:22 Rygar is everyone.
52:22 --> 52:26 I want to fall on my sword here for a second. I'm pretty sure this was my idea.
52:27 --> 52:28 That's fair.
52:28 --> 52:29 Okay.
52:29 --> 52:30 And that's fine.
52:30 --> 52:32 It's not a terrible game. Yeah. I was just curious.
52:33 --> 52:36 It was, it got a Master System port only in Japan, but it got a Master System port.
52:36 --> 52:36 Okay. All right.
52:36 --> 52:36 Boom.
52:38 --> 52:41 It's not good. I played it this week.
52:41 --> 52:47 If you ever want me to get in on something, all you have to say was, this is Werewolf's idea. And I'm like, I'm there.
52:47 --> 52:49 I'm in.
52:49 --> 52:50 Yeah. Do I need to rest up?
52:50 --> 52:52 We're talking Rygar.
52:52 --> 52:52 Yeah.
52:52 --> 52:56 Well, we went from River City Underground to fucking Rygar. That's what we— that was the trajectory.
52:57 --> 52:58 Yeah.
52:58 --> 53:01 Just coming out the gates, just being like, okay, go ahead and mail us.
53:01 --> 53:12 My personal experience in life. Is I throw out really random ideas, and a lot of times I'm told no. And sometimes it's like, yeah, that's a good idea.
53:12 --> 53:14 I'm on board. And not here.
53:15 --> 53:22 Yeah, but again, the problem is is you throw out ideas for us, and we're like, sure, sold, sold.
53:23 --> 53:23 Right, right.
53:23 --> 53:25 Talk to burn the marshmallows. I'm in.
53:26 --> 53:44 It was such a under the radar, middle of the road thing. I had no reason to say no. I'm like, yeah. If somebody said, hey, do you want to go for ice cream? And I'd be like, yes. And they're like, okay, but the place only serves vanilla, no toppings. Do you still want to go? I'm going to be like, well—
53:44 --> 53:44 I'll go.
53:44 --> 53:50 Yeah, I'm still going to go. Yeah, absolutely. I'm in. Committed.
53:50 --> 53:57 If they're keeping business on just their vanilla ice cream, I want to try that vanilla ice cream. Yeah.
53:57 --> 54:01 So wait, Rygar is the vanilla of ice cream.
54:01 --> 54:05 It's the, it's the only vanilla, no toppings of ice cream.
54:05 --> 54:05 Yeah.
54:05 --> 54:17 Purgatory of Games. Like, yeah, this is fine. This is not me stealing on you or talking any sort of nonsense, but I, looking back at it 7 years ago, I'm like, okay.
54:17 --> 54:18 I've always wondered.
54:18 --> 54:21 It came out as lukewarm as possible with that. Yeah.
54:21 --> 54:23 And I love it.
54:23 --> 54:26 But no, I love it. I think that's a statement of like, we're going to do this how we want to do it.
54:27 --> 54:30 Uh, here's a great grilled cheese without the cheese. Yeah.
54:30 --> 54:41 We didn't jump in with like Final Fantasy VII or Devil May Cry or Mega Man or any of that. We were like, Rygar, this is what the people want to hear.
54:41 --> 54:43 We didn't even do Mega Man that early either.
54:43 --> 54:45 What's that?
54:45 --> 54:49 We didn't do Mega Man that early either. It was a while before we got to the good franchise.
54:49 --> 54:51 You know, it was like 30 or 40 episodes.
54:51 --> 54:52 Yeah.
54:52 --> 55:08 You guys were digging some of the deep stuff first. Nobody's gonna watch the first few, so let's just do this one and build. Well, here's the thing. You— every podcast will always start with something hot like Final Fantasy VII, but I was interested because you were doing something I hadn't thought about.
55:08 --> 55:13 So, so next week we're doing Kaboom on the Atari 2600.
55:13 --> 55:15 Let's go. Mighty Baldy.
55:15 --> 55:16 Let's fucking go.
55:16 --> 55:48 This topic also goes back to, you know, what I originally envisioned Press B to Cancel to be well before I like Well before I was like, let's make that the podcast title. Um, cause I came up with this years before we made the podcast out of it. And I was like, I want to do videos. And I've talked about this before, but I'll just throw it out there again real quick. I wanted to make videos comparing either sequels or ports or various versions of games. Did this need to happen? Did it improve on it? Was it worth the time?
55:48 --> 55:49 Right.
55:49 --> 56:01 And that's like Rygar had that in spades cause it had like 3 different decades worth of entries, basically. And, you know, they were wildly different games, realistically.
56:01 --> 56:15 And in keeping in that spirit, Rygar got some sequels or some ports 7 years after. And here we are 7 years after the original with an expanded cast, which I'm probably pointing off in the wrong directions.
56:15 --> 56:19 And, uh, the white hair and the no leather armor.
56:19 --> 56:21 That's true.
56:21 --> 56:25 You say Sinister Rose is the white hair, but I am way grayer than he is.
56:25 --> 56:27 Wait, my hair's a little drier than yours.
56:27 --> 56:28 Who's wearing a thong? Let's break it out.
56:28 --> 56:29 Chard's the white hair.
56:29 --> 56:32 I'm the white hair. I'm like Gandalf the White-Haired.
56:32 --> 56:35 Chard's saying I'm the Zardoz of the channel.
56:35 --> 56:37 He's the leather armor.
56:37 --> 56:38 You can have that title. I'm fine with that.
56:38 --> 56:41 You like leather strips? Shut up.
56:41 --> 56:42 I do.
56:42 --> 56:50 You're a fan. It's fallen into place in some ways. You know, originally it wasn't press B to cancel. It used to be shield surfing with Rygar.
56:50 --> 56:51 Yeah.
56:52 --> 56:54 That was— it didn't, it didn't test well.
56:54 --> 56:55 It didn't test well.
56:55 --> 57:04 No, this— I am so glad that you, you started this.
57:04 --> 57:05 Yeah, same.
57:05 --> 57:06 Yeah.
57:06 --> 57:12 I fondly remember watching you guys play that, the River City game, and you guys talking about it.
57:12 --> 57:15 Yeah, I remember you like writing fan fiction in the chat while we were playing that.
57:15 --> 57:23 Yeah, I was giving you guys fan fiction because I was applying for the position as a Co-host. It took 2 years to get in, but maybe I shouldn't have come on so strong.
57:23 --> 57:51 I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall of that conversation where they're like, who's going to be the 4th? And somebody at some point had to say GP. And what's even more absurd is at some point the other people had to say, well, everybody else has said no, let's do it. They called me at 3 a.m. to offer me the gig. They're like, hey, GP. I'm like, huh? They're like, are you up? And I'm like, uh, yeah.
57:51 --> 57:52 I am now.
57:52 --> 57:53 Damn it. Yeah.
57:53 --> 57:55 I've been waiting for your call all day.
57:56 --> 57:57 No, no, I'm kidding.
57:57 --> 58:01 We're going for vanilla ice cream and no toppings. Let's go.
58:01 --> 58:06 This has been my favorite, like, project, uh, outside of, of fatherhood.
58:06 --> 58:07 Yeah, for sure.
58:07 --> 58:12 Which is a weird way to say that. I, I should probably retract that, but, uh, they don't watch our channel.
58:12 --> 58:13 It's fine.
58:13 --> 58:16 I'm just piggybacking. I'm saying I'm glad you guys started the, the podcast as well.
58:16 --> 58:23 No, honestly, I, I mean, I've, I did the streaming thing. I've done, you know, content, whatever. This is the one that I keep doing.
58:24 --> 58:24 Yeah.
58:24 --> 58:27 This is the one that's stuck. Yeah. And it's, yeah.
58:27 --> 58:40 It was funny to listen to the first episode because we all had Twitch channels back then and we're all giving our Twitch socials as a way to advertise the goddamn Twitch channels with none of us really stream anymore except for Chart. It's like, it's so different.
58:41 --> 58:43 Holding it down. You got the W. Holding it down here, guys.
58:44 --> 58:44 Yeah.
58:44 --> 58:56 No, it's good. I, uh, it's, yeah, this was, this was great. And, and getting the reach out, the reach around. Wow. Um, getting reached out to, to, to join this, that you're just—
58:56 --> 58:58 You got around to reaching out is what he's trying to say.
58:58 --> 58:58 Yeah.
58:59 --> 58:59 Yeah.
58:59 --> 58:59 Yeah.
58:59 --> 59:32 That's, that's, I was just shortening it. It's a horse door, horse to door. Um, I, this, this episode was supposed to be us revisiting and talking about Rygar, to be honest with you. It should be more of the celebration of what you guys have accomplished in 7 years. And for sure, and, and being, being invited to be a part of something. And, and Sinistar's right, because it's, it's streaming comes and goes. I've had my long time off. I've come back, I go away, I come back. I'm like Plexatony fucking Phil, right? I see my shadow. I stopped streaming for 6 months. It's, it's the crazy thing, you know?
59:32 --> 59:35 You just set the one place that I remember. Wait, wait, wait.
59:35 --> 59:38 All of your RGB is casting your shadow.
59:38 --> 59:40 You're doing it to yourself. Yeah, that's why I keep leaving. I need to turn it off.
59:40 --> 59:43 But, uh, That's why he's got more lights around him now.
59:43 --> 59:48 That's right. There's no shadow in here. It's— I burned it. I burned all shadows out of this room.
59:48 --> 59:50 Next shadow's gone.
59:50 --> 01:00:36 Gone. Forget it. Um, like, the one thing that I don't think about not doing is this. Like, every Friday it's always this, and it's— and it's like, how do I work— how do I work my personal work into the schedule of this? It's been— this leads the charge for most of the stuff that I'm doing, and I would rather Like the day that I hang up my streaming, which hopefully I don't do anytime soon, but this will still be a thing. This will still happen. So, you know, this, this has been an absolute blast. And there are days there when we always say, oh, it's been a week. It's the running joke. But to be honest with you, when it's really been a week and I'm like, I hate everything, and I come and hang out with you guys, I have the time of my life and it makes the entire week.
01:00:36 --> 01:00:36 Yeah.
01:00:37 --> 01:00:48 go, go away. And, and I love you guys for it. And I talked to you for more than most people. Most of my friends I've had for years, and it's because of this podcast.
01:00:48 --> 01:00:48 Yeah.
01:00:48 --> 01:01:14 And I love being here, and I love that you guys invited us to do it. And I cannot wait to do another 7 and actually be here for 7 years for those 7 instead of just 5, you know, which is still pretty cool to think that we've done this for as long as we have. Because I mean, you guys were in season 2 when, when you got the plucky upstart and the grumpy old man to join. And, uh, and now we've been at this for 5 years on top of all that too.
01:01:14 --> 01:01:17 Call yourself grumpy old man? I'm older than you.
01:01:17 --> 01:01:18 I know, I'm sorry. I show it.
01:01:18 --> 01:01:21 You weren't alive when I was 5 like me and Sinistar. Don't—
01:01:21 --> 01:01:23 what are you talking about?
01:01:23 --> 01:01:45 I will, I will say, like, I hang around, like, uh, I'm on Reddit all the time trying to, like, promo the podcast and, and talk shop with other people who do podcasts and It's no joke when they say that if you go more than 5 episodes with a podcast, you're doing better than 95% of the people who've tried. Yeah. Most people quit within the first 3 episodes. They usually encourage people to make 5 episodes ahead of time before you launch.
01:01:45 --> 01:01:45 Yeah.
01:01:46 --> 01:01:52 Because they know once you get into the grind of stuff, how, how many people give it up? 'Cause podcasting is work.
01:01:52 --> 01:01:53 It's hard.
01:01:53 --> 01:01:53 It is.
01:01:53 --> 01:01:55 It takes a ton of work.
01:01:55 --> 01:01:59 And we're not, and we're not living off podcast money. Not anytime soon.
01:01:59 --> 01:02:00 No, no, no, no, no.
01:02:00 --> 01:02:28 So, but I mean, when I think of like all the things I've done and I've tried streaming too, I've done a little bit of YouTube and, and this is my creative outlet and this is what I love to do. And this is the thing I want to keep doing. Uh, especially now we do both the audio like we've always done, but we also doing the video as well. And it's a lot of fun. I, I have no lie. I've made lifelong friends with you guys. Right. And I never thought I would be doing that. To think I played a, a game on stream with a, a few of you guys and it would turn into something I'm still doing 7 years later is fucking wild.
01:02:28 --> 01:02:28 So.
01:02:28 --> 01:02:39 Yeah. I do love you guys. It's been great. And like, our show's grown over the years, right? Like, yes, we're still small, but man, we have people that listen to us since day fucking one still. That's awesome. Like, it's great.
01:02:39 --> 01:02:44 I think I wouldn't have survived the pandemic if it hadn't been for you all.
01:02:44 --> 01:02:46 Yeah, that's very true.
01:02:46 --> 01:02:47 Seriously. There's a lot of truth to that.
01:02:48 --> 01:02:48 Yeah.
01:02:48 --> 01:02:52 Yeah. We are outside touching grass right now, guys. This is us.
01:02:52 --> 01:03:01 I do want to say a couple of things real quick. There's the Seinfeld people, like the crew, Jerry and Elaine and this.
01:03:01 --> 01:03:02 Oh, yeah, yeah.
01:03:02 --> 01:03:15 And then there's the Always Sunny in Philadelphia crew. And then there's us. And by that, I mean, I think we're all just characters who don't change or grow or develop or learn.
01:03:15 --> 01:03:15 Yeah.
01:03:15 --> 01:03:16 We've learned nothing.
01:03:16 --> 01:03:22 Because here we are all these years later, Jake's still telling us our opinions are wrong and us just standing by him, not remembering what they are.
01:03:22 --> 01:03:22 Right.
01:03:22 --> 01:03:24 I don't know what you're saying, but you are wrong.
01:03:24 --> 01:03:25 But he's probably right.
01:03:26 --> 01:03:32 And I had no character development whatsoever. Yeah, even though Jake's of course right.
01:03:32 --> 01:03:37 But our last podcast will be of us in jail not realizing how we got there. Still debating.
01:03:37 --> 01:03:45 My last episode is going to be from a home. I'm like 90 and just the entire show is just going, huh? Huh?
01:03:46 --> 01:03:46 Huh?
01:03:46 --> 01:03:48 That's beat away.
01:03:48 --> 01:03:49 Why am I in space?
01:03:49 --> 01:03:55 Yeah, you don't like Mario RPG. What do you mean you don't like very RPG? Greatest soundtrack.
01:03:55 --> 01:03:56 How many bars?
01:03:58 --> 01:04:00 Sinistrus, who's on the phone?
01:04:02 --> 01:04:04 People are staring at me.
01:04:04 --> 01:04:14 It's John Riker. Yes, I do consider you guys lifelong friends of mine. And I, on top of that, really hope someday I get to meet— yeah, well, I'll say all of you. That would be great.
01:04:14 --> 01:04:15 Wow.
01:04:15 --> 01:04:15 Any of you, really.
01:04:16 --> 01:04:17 He didn't want to single me out.
01:04:17 --> 01:04:19 I appreciate it.
01:04:19 --> 01:04:22 No, no. What's the one guy I want to go do everything with in life?
01:04:22 --> 01:04:22 No, he's a whole—
01:04:23 --> 01:04:31 He's holding against me that we were going to travel after the pandemic was over and we never got the chance. No, we were going to travel and then the pandemic hit.
01:04:31 --> 01:04:32 That's right. That's right.
01:04:33 --> 01:04:33 Yeah.
01:04:33 --> 01:04:36 No, no, no. I want to go get vanilla ice cream. No toppings.
01:04:36 --> 01:04:37 With all of us.
01:04:37 --> 01:04:37 Yes.
01:04:38 --> 01:04:38 With all of us.
01:04:38 --> 01:04:43 And we have to do a review. It's no Rygar, but it's still pretty good.
01:04:43 --> 01:04:44 Still pretty good ice cream.
01:04:44 --> 01:04:44 Yeah.
01:04:45 --> 01:04:45 Pretty good.
01:04:45 --> 01:04:46 Pretty good.
01:04:46 --> 01:04:49 It's like the PS2 Rygar of ice cream.
01:04:49 --> 01:04:53 It's not Rygar, but it's better than Rygar.
01:04:53 --> 01:05:08 But no, seriously, like you could write, you could fill a book of all of the like inside jokes that we've had both on the channel and in our, our, you know, Marco Polos and stuff like that and the Discord. But yeah, what a, what a fun time it's been.
01:05:08 --> 01:05:09 Yeah.
01:05:09 --> 01:05:27 My wife said something the other day and it made me think of this podcast and the stuff I enjoy doing. Why didn't it smell in here? It was an insight she came to when we were having a discussion. And I want to credit her for this because I think it's genius. She said, life is about doing stupid shit that you enjoy.
01:05:27 --> 01:05:28 Yes.
01:05:30 --> 01:05:30 Yeah.
01:05:30 --> 01:05:33 There every day. Haven't been arrested.
01:05:33 --> 01:05:34 Yep.
01:05:34 --> 01:05:34 Yeah.
01:05:35 --> 01:05:36 And you guys—
01:05:36 --> 01:05:39 Like, I love this and I know it's stupid, but I love it.
01:05:40 --> 01:05:40 And you—
01:05:40 --> 01:05:41 that's fine.
01:05:41 --> 01:05:43 And you guys are the stupidest shits I know.
01:05:43 --> 01:05:45 Yeah.
01:05:45 --> 01:05:47 And he has fun doing all of this.
01:05:47 --> 01:05:48 The nuttiest turds.
01:05:51 --> 01:05:54 I am Chet. That's a deep cut for people.
01:05:54 --> 01:05:59 Technical difficulties. Yeah.
01:06:00 --> 01:06:02 Technical limitations.
01:06:02 --> 01:06:14 No, I just remember flashing back to the mouse sounds. I'm glad we've, as a group, we've moved beyond the mouse sounds. You know, also I turned off my headphones, so fuck you all if you try it now, I won't notice.
01:06:14 --> 01:06:15 It's great.
01:06:15 --> 01:06:15 It's fine.
01:06:15 --> 01:06:17 It's like I'm chewing in Jake's ear.
01:06:17 --> 01:06:30 Edit it out in post. It's so hard not to go back and edit that first episode. The mouth noises. My God. It's like we're eating before we start every episode.
01:06:30 --> 01:06:33 Let it, let it live on in history.
01:06:33 --> 01:06:34 Yeah.
01:06:35 --> 01:06:37 Let it be as, let it be what it is.
01:06:37 --> 01:06:37 Yeah.
01:06:38 --> 01:06:39 Yeah. Let it go.
01:06:40 --> 01:06:42 Okay. All right, Elsa, calm down.
01:06:42 --> 01:06:46 Yeah, I'd rather, I'd rather have, I'd rather have Beatles Let It Be.
01:06:48 --> 01:06:48 Fair.
01:06:49 --> 01:06:49 Yeah.
01:06:50 --> 01:06:50 Anyway.
01:06:51 --> 01:06:53 All right. Now that I've ruined the vibe.
01:06:53 --> 01:06:58 No, no, no, no. It's good. It's good. Yeah.
01:06:58 --> 01:06:58 All right.
01:06:58 --> 01:07:02 Well, this, what, what number is this?
01:07:02 --> 01:07:02 I don't even know.
01:07:02 --> 01:07:04 307. I got it on this other screen over here.
01:07:05 --> 01:07:06 Couldn't plan for this.
01:07:06 --> 01:07:06 Yeah.
01:07:06 --> 01:07:14 307. 7-year anniversary. We've been doing this for 7 years. I have enjoyed almost all of it.
01:07:14 --> 01:07:18 Yeah. Wow.
01:07:18 --> 01:07:23 Everything but Jake's opinions. It's great.
01:07:23 --> 01:07:29 No, I'm okay with Jake's opinions. I just don't like being told how wrong I am. I don't mind being told how wrong I am.
01:07:29 --> 01:07:33 I don't want to be in with these guys. Come on. We're friends, but Christ.
01:07:33 --> 01:07:36 I don't mind being told I'm wrong. I usually get a kick out of it.
01:07:37 --> 01:07:40 Yeah, I'm just used to being wrong.
01:07:42 --> 01:07:43 I love you guys.
01:07:43 --> 01:07:46 I love you all. I love you all. Yep.
01:07:46 --> 01:07:48 Love is in the air tonight.
01:07:49 --> 01:07:52 And all the listeners and viewers out there who've stuck with us.
01:07:52 --> 01:07:53 Yes. Yeah.
01:07:54 --> 01:07:58 And now we shill for money as we advertise our Patreon.
01:07:59 --> 01:08:00 Yep.
01:08:00 --> 01:08:01 As is tradition.
01:08:02 --> 01:08:06 If you love us, Here's, here's a way to show it. Oh, there it is.
01:08:06 --> 01:08:09 Like and subscribe. First off, that's the biggest thing.
01:08:09 --> 01:08:10 That's more important.
01:08:10 --> 01:08:15 If you're not a subscriber and you just happen to pod us, subscribe. We do stupid shit.
01:08:16 --> 01:08:16 Yeah.
01:08:16 --> 01:08:19 We talk about stupid shit. We enjoy doing it.
01:08:19 --> 01:08:20 Yes, we do.
01:08:20 --> 01:09:07 But, uh, yeah, like you can find us on our Discord. You can talk with us there. There's always one of us hanging out chatting. Um, we've got a community that's been growing there, and you can find us on Patreon, uh, at patreon.com/pressb2cancel, where you can just follow us or support us financially if you so choose. We have 2 that meet the tier of getting vocally called out on the episode, uh, shouted out rather, and they are— Calling you out. Von Beardly and the Cathousiast Jeff. And if you subscribe at the Circus Charles tier or higher, you too can get a shout out. If you don't, that's fine. We love you regardless.
01:09:07 --> 01:09:08 Yes.
01:09:08 --> 01:09:19 It's not expected. We don't— we aren't like, ah, ah, come on. But we do appreciate it. It actually came in clutch a couple of weeks ago. And we appreciate it. Thank you.
01:09:19 --> 01:09:19 Hell yeah.
01:09:19 --> 01:09:20 Yeah.
01:09:21 --> 01:09:24 But this is our hobby, folks. And we hope you love it too.
01:09:24 --> 01:09:24 Yeah.
01:09:25 --> 01:09:25 Yes.
01:09:26 --> 01:09:36 Um, and if you were looking for our links or whatever, you can find us at pressbeatacanceled.com. Um, is, is anybody have anything they're doing they want to shout out or?
01:09:36 --> 01:09:50 I just, um, I think that, uh, actually, you know what? I know we've done enough throwbacks to the original episode. I don't think I need to put on radio voice. So no, I'm, I'm good. Just happy to be here. Thank you for having me, guys.
01:09:50 --> 01:09:51 I thought he was starting an ASMR channel.
01:09:52 --> 01:09:54 Yeah, it was like, that's where the money is.
01:09:54 --> 01:09:57 Are we doing— no, no, no, no, no.
01:09:57 --> 01:10:02 Well, you've been, you've been listening to Press B to Cancel.
01:10:02 --> 01:10:04 Press B.
01:10:04 --> 01:10:27 Oh God. Yeah, we're doing stuff. We're playing scary games. We're playing horror games. Come over, check us out. There might be a few Press B people or one playing a horror game with me tonight. We'll see how that goes. Yeah, but you, yeah, you, I'm the only one doing it. Well, no, that's not true. Jake's doing stuff too. Jake, help me out here.
01:10:27 --> 01:10:50 Yeah, for once I have to do stuff. So I've, I've been doing the ranking of Mario over the last little while and ranking Mario, uh, with the scientific science and facts behind my decisions that are absolutely correct in every possible way. And if you don't agree with my ranking of Mario, you can go to our Discord at pressplaycouncil.com/whatever. And, uh, tell me how wrong I am, but I'm right.
01:10:51 --> 01:10:51 Nice try.
01:10:51 --> 01:11:02 And I have another episode coming out Sunday where I'm actually finally going to add Super Mario Brothers for the NES to the list. Is it the best Mario game? Is it the worst? You gotta watch on Sunday to find out.
01:11:02 --> 01:11:06 I've already, I've already seen the thumbnail and fuck you. Sunday.
01:11:06 --> 01:11:08 Sunday. Sunday.
01:11:08 --> 01:11:09 Fuck you.
01:11:09 --> 01:11:16 It's your favorite game. I had to do something special for that one for you, Sinister. You know, it's not every lunch break I can, I can do an episode like this one.
01:11:16 --> 01:11:16 So.
01:11:16 --> 01:11:17 It was, it was really good.
01:11:18 --> 01:11:18 Sounds like it.
01:11:19 --> 01:11:21 How's, how's Marvel Madness treating you?
01:11:21 --> 01:11:33 It's, it's, well, when he's 3 minutes to, you know, Marvel Madness, dedicate some time to it. You know, it's up there with our squad goal of Dragon's Lair, which, which at some point we gotta do cuz we committed to it as a team.
01:11:33 --> 01:11:35 I already did it.
01:11:35 --> 01:11:38 Who got— I didn't get committed. No one committed me.
01:11:38 --> 01:11:38 What is this? What is we?
01:11:39 --> 01:11:40 Well, you didn't beat it.
01:11:40 --> 01:11:42 You only played it for like an hour. An hour's enough.
01:11:42 --> 01:11:43 We gotta beat it.
01:11:43 --> 01:11:44 An hour's enough.
01:11:44 --> 01:11:44 That's enough.
01:11:45 --> 01:11:54 That's enough. He's paid his penance. He's good. You notice he's beaten every Sisyphian game since that, since that horrible day. Yeah, I know what's up.
01:11:54 --> 01:11:58 Speaking of penance, where's Rascal? Wolf, you got to play Rascal. That was, that was the thing.
01:11:58 --> 01:12:05 Yeah, I do. Uh, on the other side, I am, uh, most of the way through Star Ocean 2, so I'm on track to beat that for the year.
01:12:05 --> 01:12:08 I'm gonna wait until December to do mine.
01:12:09 --> 01:12:11 Tradition. Yeah. I respect it.
01:12:12 --> 01:12:20 As his tradition. I'll have a week off in December. I'll just tackle it then. Perfect.
01:12:21 --> 01:12:30 All righty. Well, this has been another episode of Press B to Cancel. We will see you all again next week. Have a good one, folks. Thank you for listening.
01:12:31 --> 01:12:32 Oh, Rygo, Rygo.
