[00:00:01] Welcome back Superstars. My name is Aaron. I'm a master baiter of fish and this is the super pod saga

[00:00:10] That's right super pod saga

[00:00:21] It's it's the podcast the funny first-time listeners the podcast where some guests and I discuss a different video game topic each week

[00:00:28] And when we're done discussing that topic will

[00:00:31] Will the guests and I will combine into this gigantic

[00:00:36] Toxic undulating mass and we're gonna we're gonna take over Tokyo and it's slowly

[00:00:42] Yeah, exactly. It'll be like that one dude from

[00:00:46] Men in black where it's like an alien inside of a person

[00:00:49] But it's that it'll be like nape inside of me inside of nomad inside of Brock

[00:00:54] How's that sound?

[00:00:57] That sounds wonderful

[00:01:06] Oh boy

[00:01:08] Yeah, joining me today is quite a few returning faces and a brand new face

[00:01:13] One of those returning faces is the unofficial the fuck I got second chair at this point

[00:01:19] Naive naive. What's what's going on man? How are you? I got promoted? I'm doing I'm doing okay

[00:01:26] My fucking head hurts because I've been man

[00:01:28] I've been making a discord server as you guys all know and turns out that's difficult

[00:01:33] So it took me like three hours just to understand what a bot even does I

[00:01:39] Had high hopes for this fucking place and it is just a it's just a din of degeneracy now

[00:01:45] It took like a grand total of maybe 45 minutes before just all keep crumbling down around me all my hard work

[00:01:53] It'll it'll kind of like pull together after a while like when you first start it it'll just be this

[00:01:59] Fucking abstract mess of garbage and nonsense, but it'll pull together eventually

[00:02:05] God I hope

[00:02:07] And another returning face nomad hey, hey, we I just talked to you like Tuesday. What's up man? How are you?

[00:02:13] I am doing pretty damn good Aaron. Yeah, it's not been it hasn't been too long since we talked last

[00:02:19] It's been it's been really fun hanging out and I'm really happy you brought me back

[00:02:22] So much preciado my friend absolutely and and a new face newbie

[00:02:28] Superpot saga

[00:02:30] Brock is that is that your real name? Do I have to call you Brock the swordsman or

[00:02:34] Oh, no, you could just you can just call me Brock that that will work absolutely fine. Okay, cool

[00:02:41] but I

[00:02:42] Also had a interesting day boys. I

[00:02:44] I went to

[00:02:46] Got get up there. I went to go get on discord today

[00:02:50] And it just completely logged me out of everything

[00:02:53] I don't know why which wasn't a problem, you know, what's an a problem?

[00:02:57] I was like, I'm just logged back in no problem

[00:02:59] So I go to log back in and that's also a problem. I'm just like

[00:03:04] Okay, so I

[00:03:06] For some reason with my old account

[00:03:09] I

[00:03:10] Discord decided that one the email that I was using for that account just didn't exist anymore

[00:03:16] Apparently they had no files of that email

[00:03:18] so I fought for it fought with it for like two hours and

[00:03:22] I just got my losses and made just a entirely new discord

[00:03:27] account

[00:03:29] So I go to like I had a thankfully I got back to the service that I was in and I added everybody was like hey guys

[00:03:37] Fousin your server. I will happily join back in it again. It's sent me an invite

[00:03:46] God that fuck it it could be worse though

[00:03:48] It's buddy of of nape and I he you got I think you gotta take number by the porn bots

[00:04:00] I won't say who it is. I'll say bless his fucking heart, but man that was some funny shit

[00:04:06] I've had that happen to two friends now including him. So yeah, he shouldn't be left out. It's alright

[00:04:11] We'll take turns a pop in your your shows or whatever you guys do in there

[00:04:17] Hey, they've go ahead and plug your your podcast and any other stuff you got going on

[00:04:21] I

[00:04:21] Can see why you wanted me to go first because you're biased because our last episode had you on it. Yeah, well

[00:04:28] Yeah

[00:04:30] I'm a one half of gaming together a cooperative podcast and like I said before

[00:04:36] Our last episode as of this recording so it'll be like weeks in the past now

[00:04:40] But it's 141 World War Z that one's gonna have our boy Aaron on it

[00:04:44] Aaron actually was on a ton of our shows

[00:04:47] So go check us out over there. Just Google search here. I don't know how

[00:04:57] Think nape you've been on what one two three. Oh by the way, I don't know what the fuck happened

[00:05:03] You remember that like game show episode we did a while back with like Bill and Chris and all them

[00:05:08] Yeah

[00:05:09] For some ass reason the episode got like re uploaded the Spotify for podcasters

[00:05:15] So now it appears as new to everybody and people are just eating the fuck out of that

[00:05:21] So that's cool

[00:05:22] So so if anyone's listening to this and you've heard that game show episode and you're like what the fuck that episode was from

[00:05:29] Fucking two years ago. I don't know why every upload itself, but my balls hadn't dropped yet

[00:05:36] All those I think I think you were recording on discord on your Xbox at the time too

[00:05:42] I believe yeah, so I what I used to do before I had my computer died

[00:05:46] And so I would get on edge on the Xbox series X and I would just I bought a webcam

[00:05:52] It just threw it on top of my TV and I was just be standing pacing around my living room

[00:05:57] Screaming loudly into a shitty Xbox headset. So it was really I'm tell if you want to make a podcast

[00:06:03] You can do it. I promise I

[00:06:06] Was a scrappy young lad back then

[00:06:10] young dumb and full of come

[00:06:13] Innovation

[00:06:17] Right modern problems require mark the solutions

[00:06:24] Man, no man. Yeah, go ahead and plug your show. Holy shit. Yeah

[00:06:30] Definitely so so so my podcast is only about a year and a half old

[00:06:34] I'm about 39 going on 40

[00:06:36] So this is like me in my prime years doing podcast thing

[00:06:39] But my my show is called the retro wildlands and on that show

[00:06:44] I check out mostly older retro games

[00:06:46] but the whole shtick is I

[00:06:47] Take you through the game by using music and sound effects to actually take you through the first part of

[00:06:53] The actual game itself. It's full of nostalgia

[00:06:56] All the all the nostalgic tingles and if you've never played a game before too

[00:07:01] My show is designed to where you can kind of get an idea what the shows or the

[00:07:05] Game's gonna be about when you listen to it. So it's a it's a really fun time. You can find my show

[00:07:10] I'm assuming you can Google it will pop up my little logo is all pixelated

[00:07:14] And I have my dog on the show every once in a while. So if that's not a reason to listen to my show

[00:07:19] I don't know what the fuck is so retro wildlands. Check it out

[00:07:21] Oh my god, have you seen our thumbnails for my show?

[00:07:25] You probably have it dude every single thumbnail since I started making art has my dog on it

[00:07:30] So I think you would love just go to our humble plug our Instagram game together pod

[00:07:35] But all of our thumbnails are there and man

[00:07:38] It's my favorite part of the show. I barely even like recording anymore

[00:07:41] I'm just excited to put all the references in the show on the thumbnail. Oh, yeah, there you go

[00:07:47] I when I was designing my logo, I started with a pixelated version of my dog and I built everything around it

[00:07:53] So there you go

[00:07:55] That'd be nothing would make me want to listen to a podcast more than like if their cover art was just this like

[00:08:02] 120p

[00:08:04] Image of a dog like it's just like a hundred pixels. It's all fucking stretched out

[00:08:09] It just looks awful, but it's a little pupper like I would it

[00:08:14] Want to listen to that like what the fuck is up with that? What is it?

[00:08:18] Oh

[00:08:19] Shit Brock. Yeah, go ahead and plug anything you're doing at all podcast streams

[00:08:24] Whatever you have a pot. I also have a podcasters three of us

[00:08:28] It is called the our cast podcast and gentlemen

[00:08:32] The shows the show's dumb that three of us there is no premise behind this show

[00:08:37] We literally just spitball for an hour and talk about

[00:08:41] Absolutely nothing nothing less. That's that's but uh, if you people are interested

[00:08:47] It's on all platforms. You can find it anywhere the outcast podcast and yeah

[00:08:52] You talk about nothing and you haven't had me on yet. I know that's that's

[00:08:59] That's literally what I bring to the table I yell and I talk about nothing. Oh my god

[00:09:04] So okay, so you can like leave comments on this is what I do

[00:09:07] I fucking take control of everything

[00:09:09] So you can leave comments on episodes on Spotify apparently and one of our episodes hell let loose

[00:09:15] I showed this to Aaron

[00:09:18] Someone wrote it someone wrote and said that screamin fella just had skill issues

[00:09:24] That's why he didn't like the game. It's like the screaming fella. Who could that be?

[00:09:30] Which one is that?

[00:09:32] Listen to this show

[00:09:33] It's like little like the dichotomy between like how how calm and like

[00:09:39] Usually reserved Phil is compared to nape. Who's just fucking flying off the handle at all times

[00:09:47] It's so good. Oh our friendships are our friendship is tested every week. It's to the push to the limit. Oh

[00:09:56] Shit man, this this week were we're talking about

[00:10:00] Oh fuck. How did I word it?

[00:10:03] Hated games that are good

[00:10:05] There's there's a lot of games that people love to hate for whatever reason whether it didn't live up to I

[00:10:13] Guess the expectations of a pretty previous game in the series

[00:10:17] We'll get some good examples here in a little bit or maybe games that were like the reviewed poorly for

[00:10:23] Not doing enough, but actually are pretty good

[00:10:26] But before we get to all of our picks I asked our discord server

[00:10:30] What are some games that people love to hate or games that people hate that you think are good and

[00:10:36] It's want to give our discord community

[00:10:39] Little voice a little say in this episode

[00:10:42] Immediately the cthusias Jeff he says people love to hate star fox adventures

[00:10:46] And I think it's good and to this day people still love to hate no man sky

[00:10:49] And I think it's one of the best games ever made. I've not played no man sky

[00:10:53] But star fox adventures is fucking good. I agree

[00:10:57] Yep, I hundred percent with that star fox doesn't get as much love as it should I think

[00:11:03] Honestly, I think star fox needs to go back to the to the original back in the R-wing the rail style shooter kind of thing

[00:11:09] But star fox adventures was not that bad of a game and I don't think people give it a fair shake

[00:11:14] So that's that's a good pick. Yeah

[00:11:17] Thrac immediately he just said sonic and I know Brock you're a big sonic guy

[00:11:22] Yep, right. Yep

[00:11:26] Real Dave Jackson he says BioShock 2 is really good and it's the best gameplay in the series big daddy drill go

[00:11:31] Burr. Oh and the Minerva's den DLC is the best story in the series to I

[00:11:38] BioShock 2 like sure it didn't do

[00:11:43] It didn't do

[00:11:45] Anything new really, but I mean it was still pretty good

[00:11:49] I have this I had the specific memory of BioShock 2 I used to work at GameStop

[00:11:53] So we they let us take the games out early so that we would know what they were and how to talk about them and sell

[00:11:59] Them to people and shit maze basically how to lie to old people and I just remember being so excited for BioShock 2 and playing

[00:12:06] It just being like

[00:12:07] The whole time just that fucking meme of the army man stating they're staring into the fucking camera

[00:12:13] You know

[00:12:19] But what was crazy though is cuz I was I was upset that I had a multiplayer and so I started playing the multiplayer and

[00:12:26] I loved it. I was like what the fuck

[00:12:29] Like you could run around and shock someone and then one shot them in the head with the rifle

[00:12:33] And I'm like this is dumb and not balanced

[00:12:35] But I love it and no one's doing this for some reason so because if you get shocked at the game

[00:12:40] You can't move for a second so you literally can eat a banana like take like look at do the crossword the word

[00:12:45] Old puzzle of the

[00:12:48] Fucking all that guy's brains out. Oh

[00:12:51] Fuck Thrac again, he says I'm willing to say shadow of the Tomb Raider. I don't get the hate. I'm enjoying it a lot so far

[00:12:59] Was that the third one?

[00:13:02] Pretty sure that was the third one. Yeah, is that the one that was timed exclusive or Xbox is that's why it was getting hate

[00:13:08] One of them was timed exclusive for Xbox. I think that was fries of the Tomb Raider. Maybe I don't

[00:13:15] Saw the same to me

[00:13:17] Well, look the same to me. Well, we'll give thread it. What fuck not threat. We'll give Thrac a good old family feud great answer

[00:13:26] the survey says

[00:13:28] Number four

[00:13:33] Or it's worded really fucking weirdly like how sometimes instead of saying like

[00:13:37] Instead of saying sex on the board it'll say something dumb like the the Fanny scooters

[00:13:43] Of course, oh yeah, that was such bullshit anytime that happens

[00:13:47] Successful libido no pants dance. There we go

[00:13:52] Internet Trey he says I think people are coming around on Musso stuff

[00:13:56] So this is borderline, but Hyrule Warriors is the best fan service game there is once you level up folks

[00:14:01] It feels so satisfying to be a KO buzz saw just a great game. I haven't played it

[00:14:07] But so this sounds pretty fucking cool, I'm pretty sure the best fan service game is near automata. Have you seen to be I

[00:14:16] Warning right I was talking about sex fan service. Oh, okay, okay? I have seen her and she's delightful

[00:14:28] Just so just delightful also when you were gonna say like delicious or something like that

[00:14:34] Scrumptious scrumptidly. Yes. Thank you. Thank you as why I'm the co-host

[00:14:41] Editor, let me get a car

[00:14:48] Fucking blows to speakers. It's so distorted. Yeah, it's like

[00:14:52] I can't get close enough to my mic to really

[00:15:04] But I could tell I blew it up

[00:15:08] Dave remember 64 he says for recent games and I know the hate is largely due to the technical issues on PC

[00:15:14] But Jedi survivor was one of the best games I played last year

[00:15:19] The another one I haven't played so I can say for sure

[00:15:22] But I know quite a few people who did play and they hated it for the PC issues

[00:15:27] Yeah, PC issues definitely brought that one down

[00:15:30] But I haven't heard a lot of hate for that one specifically. It's definitely on my radar. It's on Michelle right over my shoulder

[00:15:36] So I'm gonna give that one a whirl hopefully soon, but

[00:15:39] Hopefully it's gonna be good. It's it looks great and I love Star Wars

[00:15:42] My old co-host Tommy rip Tommy poor went out for a real one

[00:15:48] He he really liked the whichever the fuck Jedi game came first

[00:15:53] I don't know because Jedi survivor. That's the second one right? That's the newest one

[00:15:57] Yeah fall in order. I think you're thinking of

[00:16:00] You think it a Jedi Academy what the which which ones to I

[00:16:05] Don't know there's one the Tommy doesn't like because he says the exploration is wacky and stupid

[00:16:11] Moving on again Dave remember 64. He says for an n64 title. I'm going mission impossible

[00:16:18] It's not amazing, but it's a lot better than people give it credit for I fucking another one. I've never played

[00:16:23] But yeah cool. Thrac another game people up to hate is fallout for not not a fan

[00:16:29] Mostly hate being interrupted in the middle of anything going like hey another settlement needs your help like bro

[00:16:36] Bro, I thought you're calling me out specifically that you're calling me out for interrupting everyone all the time

[00:16:43] No, just when I'm just when I'm exploring like a vault or an abandoned factory or something

[00:16:50] I was one of those crazy

[00:16:51] there's the they were doing because that released the same years the Witcher and

[00:16:55] There was a game of the year thing for this website true achievements

[00:16:59] I'm a pretty active user on that because I'm a fucking dirty slut for a gamer score and

[00:17:03] I remember I hadn't played the Witcher 3 yet

[00:17:06] I hadn't even played any of the Witcher games

[00:17:08] But I voted for fallout 4 to be the game of the year and and more people voted for that than which are so

[00:17:14] Fallout ended up winning and then the next year. I played the Witcher 3 and I was like I was looking at my hands

[00:17:18] Like what have I done?

[00:17:22] What have I done?

[00:17:26] I

[00:17:28] Fucking shaped the world into this dystopian

[00:17:33] Future COVID would have never happened had I voted for the Witcher

[00:17:38] That's it honestly

[00:17:40] You heard it here. That's all the comments that matter

[00:17:43] Yeah, that's it

[00:17:44] Thrac says Super Mario Sunshine is good and I agree and that's it

[00:17:49] It's all of them as far as I can

[00:17:52] Unless this all the sugar in this fucking gnaws has given me diabetes and my eyes have burned out

[00:17:58] That's that's all I can see a cup of coffee's got my eyes vibrate

[00:18:02] I'm pretty sure if you listen hard enough, you can hear it listeners. Just hold on just everyone moment of silence

[00:18:07] Okay, I heard it crazy. That was intense. That's intense

[00:18:15] Well, yeah now it's time for the meat and potatoes that they have a so we'll go with our picks now

[00:18:19] Eddard, let me get another call

[00:18:23] I

[00:18:27] Wrote down a ton while I was on my lunch break and I don't know where the fuck to start

[00:18:33] Nave you start us off. Okay, here we go

[00:18:36] So I'm gonna go with something that I defend quite on the regular on Twitter

[00:18:41] Can I guess what can I guess what it is go for it? You got a fancy a

[00:18:45] Okay, I'll talk about it was not that but I will talk about yeah, I see it

[00:18:49] All right, so that was my next one

[00:18:51] Final Fantasy 8 is

[00:18:53] Probably one of the most divisive games in a for in a long-running franchise like just bar none by how

[00:18:59] Completely different it is and I think that they were so it's an interesting

[00:19:05] Story behind that we're basically the teams that were making final fantasy within square

[00:19:10] split in half so

[00:19:12] Final Fantasy 8 was the

[00:19:15] New kids on the block like they were the new guys and you can tell because this is proto Kingdom Hearts

[00:19:20] Like you could smell Kingdom Hearts all over this goddamn game

[00:19:23] but uh fine final fantasy 9 was being made by the old school game game developers and you can really tell with that game as

[00:19:30] well because it really goes back to its roots and

[00:19:34] Final Fantasy 8 took so many leaps and strides in

[00:19:37] trying to differentiate itself from the rest of the pack and

[00:19:41] It ended up making one of the most unique and customizable

[00:19:48] Battle systems that have that has probably ever been in a JRPG

[00:19:53] For before that or sense and that I'm of course talking about the junction system

[00:19:57] Which is something that is it's so insanely verbose like right off the bat that it's really difficult for new people to

[00:20:04] Kind of get their teeth sink their teeth into it in any meaningful way

[00:20:08] But once you start to understand it

[00:20:10] I always recommend people just go and watch like a 10 minute tutorial that explains it

[00:20:14] It's really not nearly as difficult as it as it as it seems

[00:20:18] And I think that it seems really bad at the beginning also because you have a lot less

[00:20:24] Creative freedom because obviously you're like level one in your shitty. You're a little

[00:20:28] What is it? What is the the mafia game like the mobile game?

[00:20:34] Level one crook or whatever

[00:20:36] No idea. I don't know. I'm all my references are missing today. Holy shit

[00:20:42] But you're shitty so you don't have all of the like customization that you get but there's so many awesome

[00:20:47] Guardian forces which are the summons in this game and having the Guardian forces

[00:20:51] specifically

[00:20:52] Link up with the characters that you want them to link up with like and they get experience bonuses based on how long

[00:20:58] They've been on that one person

[00:21:00] They have different abilities that they unlock different different trees and then using those to mix and match

[00:21:07] To make your characters as strong as possible to have resistances to the bosses

[00:21:11] You're fighting or to be able to do damages to exploit weaknesses or using magic in a way

[00:21:17] That is so unique where you're drawing it as an item rather than using it as an

[00:21:23] A normal sense with with MP and shit like that

[00:21:26] So I've been going on for a minute, but man

[00:21:28] I fucking love this game so much the soundtrack is one of the best in the game and people shit on the story

[00:21:33] But these are teenagers you're playing people forget that like they look like badasses, but there's just angsty teenagers

[00:21:39] This is just a drama and if you look at it through that lens

[00:21:41] It's nowhere near as bad as you think it is. It's definitely way better than Final Fantasy 7 story

[00:21:47] Yeah, I agree with you 100% man

[00:21:49] Final Fantasy 8 is it's one where people immediately dismiss it because of things like the junction system or

[00:21:56] Even though it's got one of the best mini games in triple triad in my opinion

[00:22:00] People will even dismiss that because the way the rules are they change from region to region and they're so different

[00:22:06] It's just people focus on the things that they see that are different

[00:22:10] And they just immediately dismiss it and they don't want to spend the time to figure out the nuances

[00:22:15] But you hit the nail on the head man

[00:22:16] Once you get into this system and figure out how to move your magic around for your different stats and

[00:22:21] Really put the time into it

[00:22:23] You'll get that return and not a lot of JRPGs can do that. So yeah, great pick final fantasy 8 man good pick

[00:22:30] I haven't ever beaten this one. I've beaten 7 I've beaten 9

[00:22:34] I've beaten 10 and like a bunch of other ones

[00:22:36] I think the the junction system does keep throwing me off a little bit

[00:22:41] Mostly because the tutorial makes it seem like a lot like the tutorial the game gives you

[00:22:46] It just seems like it's so much shit at you at once

[00:22:49] I yeah, probably do just need to watch a tutorial on YouTube someone actually explain it to me

[00:22:55] But it is a fucking awesome game though like the gameplay is really cool

[00:23:00] The whole draw system is super fucking cool

[00:23:02] The fact that you can just draw guardian forces from I think it's like bosses and shit and you can steal spells from enemies

[00:23:10] I like how when you're doing the

[00:23:14] The limit breaks especially for like squall you have like time is your button presses for the I

[00:23:20] Have no idea if I'm gonna pronounce this right Renzo Renzo Kuken

[00:23:24] Renzo Kuken, I don't know but

[00:23:27] Yeah, it is a fucking cool game that people love to hate for no reason other than they love seven so fucking much

[00:23:34] I think another good thing is that it's never been more accessible

[00:23:38] Because whenever you buy the modern versions of the game you can use all of the cheat codes

[00:23:41] It's the same with final mc9 and final mc7 as well

[00:23:44] But this game specifically there's a cheat code that just gives you a bunch of magic right off the gate

[00:23:48] So if you don't want to fuck with it

[00:23:49] You can do that and also there's an auto junction system in there built-in so that it kind of optimizes

[00:23:55] Quote-unquote for you

[00:23:56] And so the only thing that you need to worry about is how what your guardian forces are learning with their experience

[00:24:01] That you're getting from fights and so like even if you just do it straight like that

[00:24:06] You can play it essentially like it is a it is final mc7 or 9 like you can you can legit just completely disregard the junction system

[00:24:14] And it's it's there whenever you feel like you want to start diving into it

[00:24:18] That's the beauty of it like you don't actually have to like understand it that much

[00:24:22] I was like a fucking nine-year-old kid whenever I played the game the first time and I was like learning about it

[00:24:29] Hell yeah, hell yeah

[00:24:32] Fuck no mad. No, what's your first pick?

[00:24:36] All right, so speaking of games that people hate on for no discernible reason

[00:24:39] My first pick is the black sheep of the resident evil

[00:24:53] Did we just become best friends we just became became great friends

[00:24:58] See and the fact that we just had this moment tells me that there are more people that love this game that hate it

[00:25:04] And we just need to bring them out of the woodwork because all right

[00:25:08] So okay resident evil 6 definitely was the furthest from survival horror that the series has ever been okay

[00:25:14] We got it, but if you really look at this game for what it actually does it is fun

[00:25:21] Exactly, it is fun and you can't convince me otherwise like all right capcom went all in with this baby, right?

[00:25:27] four campaigns

[00:25:29] So seven or eight playable characters and each of these campaigns are part of a bigger story that as you play them

[00:25:37] You kind of put the pieces together things like that it had some online functionality drop in and drop out co-op

[00:25:43] Which was pretty seamless you can even do couch co-op too

[00:25:46] So if you want to destroy some zombies and some juwabo with your significant other you can do that

[00:25:52] But with these online features too what it tried to do was if you've got people online playing a certain scenario

[00:25:59] And their scenario interacts with yours at the right time you can join them online at the same time

[00:26:05] It's a stupid idea kind of in practice because it relies so much on happenstance chance

[00:26:10] But it was a really innovative idea, but to Aaron's point this game is just fun. The combat is fun

[00:26:17] It's very easy to move around and move and shoot and the dodging mechanic is so easy to pull off like come on

[00:26:24] How many times have we been like looking down the sights of a monster and it's about to jump

[00:26:29] But you just press one button and move yourself to the right

[00:26:32] You dodge out of the way in the nick of time and you fall on your back John Wick style and shoot somebody else

[00:26:37] It's coming at you. It's extremely fun very easy to pick up

[00:26:41] There's skill points that you can grab as you go that you can slot into somewhat customize your character

[00:26:47] It's it gets a bad rap because sure it is not a good resident evil game quote-unquote

[00:26:53] And I think I agree with that

[00:26:55] But as a fun genuinely enjoyable game to play

[00:26:59] Resident Evil 6 is a fantastic big game to the point where and this is my proudest gaming achievement. Jumping by the way

[00:27:05] I have the platinum on the PlayStation 3 version and PlayStation

[00:27:10] Thousand gamers score on Xbox 360 and Xbox one and I'm in the middle of playing it through my switch

[00:27:15] Oh my god. Oh, yeah

[00:27:18] This is this is my number one guilty pleasure game bar not resident evil six. There we go

[00:27:24] Beautiful. I also really love to you're talking about how you can just like

[00:27:29] Dodge and lay on your back or whatever one of my favorite things

[00:27:33] One of my favorite stupid things that games can do is like when you do like a dodge

[00:27:37] Like a dive or whatever you just lay on your back

[00:27:39] Then you can just lay there on your back just lay there with your guns pointed in the air

[00:27:42] Just kind of chill be like, oh, what's up? What's up?

[00:27:45] Yeah, it's like laying there on the ground

[00:27:48] I love dodge mechanics in any game. There's just something about just just

[00:27:52] Ducking out of the way in the nick of time and then yeah being able to stay on the ground

[00:27:55] Like I I I played a bunch of the last of us and the last of us part two

[00:27:59] And that that was kind of part of it too. You could dive and lay down

[00:28:02] And I would just lay on a random couch outside wait for someone to pop

[00:28:06] Move by just pop up be like, hello

[00:28:08] And you're done just

[00:28:10] It's satisfying

[00:28:12] That is one thing that people don't that people really underestimate about resident evil six is how fucking

[00:28:16] Absolutely funny it is like especially in co-op like the the the humor the humor factor is insane

[00:28:22] And the developers were aware of it as well

[00:28:24] Like there are a lot of little Easter eggs that you can do like going to the park and like sliding down the slide and stuff

[00:28:29] Like that like they they knew what they were doing

[00:28:32] And they just wanted to make a really fun and bombastic experience and whenever you brought up the

[00:28:36] You brought up the uh the co-op

[00:28:39] From going from two players to four players during the boss fights and I like while it was in theory like kind of

[00:28:46] Kind of a miss whenever the game first came out that shit was bumping man

[00:28:50] And I actually like I made friends because like uh just from the random interactions that we would have

[00:28:56] Uh because I don't think I I think if you were talking in game chat

[00:28:59] You might be able to hear each other but we I was always in a party

[00:29:02] So but like you could still kind of like and or like look at each other and go

[00:29:06] No, or like they were like come on and you can hear each other screaming like at your partners normally

[00:29:11] But like your teammates can hear it as well

[00:29:13] It's like there was just so many different like scenarios that were possible because of that

[00:29:18] And I've never seen another game try to do something like that since no

[00:29:21] And it was even fun too

[00:29:22] Just dropping in with a random person going through part of the campaign and maybe that person never

[00:29:27] Played that particular part of the level before or something like that and you as the veteran can kind of stand back and guide him through

[00:29:32] It was it was a different experience based on who you who you met up with and you're right

[00:29:37] No one's really done it. I don't think that well since I really also love the fact that that game has a

[00:29:43] Fucking dark souls invasion mechanic where you can just spawn in as just random zombies and it is so

[00:29:50] funny because it is

[00:29:52] Immediately obvious which zombie is the human controlled one because like they are doing

[00:29:57] They're dodging. They're serpentine

[00:30:00] And they're so fast. It's it's so great

[00:30:04] It's really fun

[00:30:05] man, it's that game was so full of content and I it blows my mind

[00:30:10] especially in modern day when games are always completely unfinished to look back on resident evil 6 and just

[00:30:16] Admire how much they packed into that game and how that was used against it

[00:30:20] Uh for from longtime fans like all of the stuff that all the diverse content that they were given

[00:30:26] Uh, they ended up using that against them in a way that like oh, this isn't resident evil

[00:30:31] Look at all this look at how different it is

[00:30:33] Whereas all campaigns are basically different kind of eras of resident evil just in general it feels like

[00:30:40] And I it's just such a shame

[00:30:43] Dude and jake's campaign

[00:30:46] Uh where you can do his like hand to hand combat shit. Oh, that was so fucking fun, dude

[00:30:50] Just palm blasting enemies to death and shit

[00:30:54] Oh, so good. Yeah resident evil 6

[00:30:57] Fuck that was just such a fun game to play co-op. I know

[00:31:02] Uh resident evil 5 another game that people love to hate

[00:31:07] Because again, it came after

[00:31:09] Fuck the resident evil up until

[00:31:12] You know 4 was this like juggernaut series and then 5 got a lot of hate for being

[00:31:18] Too actiony or whatever fucking great games really great games

[00:31:23] Uh, hey brock. What's your first pick man? Oh, okay

[00:31:26] So I could uh, I could go two ways here look at my notes

[00:31:31] I think I'll save that one because I know everyone who knows me

[00:31:34] Is just waiting for me to go in on that one. But so for my first one I'm gonna pick I'm gonna pick

[00:31:41] Fire emblem engage for the nintendo

[00:31:44] switch here

[00:31:46] Oh, okay

[00:31:48] Every person I've personally I've talked to they they they just seem so like

[00:31:54] Me it's kind of sounds like I'd be like I'd be exaggerating but I

[00:31:59] From the conversations I've had and maybe I'm not talking to the right people but I have not heard one

[00:32:06] small positive about this game at all and I personally really liked it like I understand from going from uh

[00:32:15] And you guys got to understand and to the listeners

[00:32:18] I'm fairly new to the fire emblem like

[00:32:21] Viper my first ever fire emblem game was three houses

[00:32:24] And I feel like in three houses

[00:32:26] I felt like was beloved and I feel like I I feel like that's a part of the reason why engage wasn't like

[00:32:33] How do I want to put this light because like three houses was such a great fire emblem game and people played engage and they're like

[00:32:40] What the hell is this like this is not what we're used to and it's just like and people call it to anime

[00:32:46] With like how the characters look at stuff, but I felt like that was uh like a fresh like I thought that was fresh

[00:32:51] Like it wasn't I mean it was still like a periodic type game

[00:32:55] But I felt like the design the way they went with the design of the game was great and I'll meant the story was kind of

[00:33:01] It uh not the best but at the same time

[00:33:05] I thought the story was it was it was it was good enough, I guess

[00:33:09] And then people I mean I personally because I played uh fire emblem three hopes

[00:33:14] And I I think as a player. I just I prefer uh warrior style type games over turn based

[00:33:21] but

[00:33:22] The turn based in that I still enjoyed even the turn based that it had and then

[00:33:27] people

[00:33:28] didn't really

[00:33:30] they didn't vibe with the mc of the game alar

[00:33:34] And I I could I could see I guess why they did it

[00:33:38] But at the same time I just I don't know I just

[00:33:42] Every question like I asked everybody the same question when they go in on this game

[00:33:46] Is just like is it because it's not

[00:33:49] past fire emblem games and

[00:33:52] I get like I get mixed signals like like they don't want to admit it

[00:33:56] But I just I I personally 100 percent believe that's that's the reason why and that's pretty much and that's my first pick gentlemen

[00:34:03] That's a great fucking pick man. I've been a pretty big fan of the fire emblem series since the game boy advanced back in the day

[00:34:08] like the early 2000s and

[00:34:11] I don't know. I I thought it was I thought engage was good like I

[00:34:16] I don't know if maybe I try way too hard to find the good in games

[00:34:20] And I just don't see like bad parts, but yeah, I thought engage was good

[00:34:24] Like after like you said earlier three houses was fucking

[00:34:29] Huge so feature rich. You got the the hog warts kind of bullshit

[00:34:33] You could customize your students school life all that stuff basically persona, but fire emblem

[00:34:39] And then coming off of that basically I think the the hate with engage was just that

[00:34:45] it was

[00:34:46] It was watered down compared to three hope the compared to three houses or whatever

[00:34:50] But I mean, it's just basically classic fire emblem at its roots

[00:34:55] Nothing more nothing less. It reminded me a lot of like the the game boy advanced era

[00:35:01] Fire emblem games where it was just turn-based strategy

[00:35:05] Uh build relationships with your teammates by talking to them and shit and fighting with them

[00:35:10] Then they had

[00:35:12] All that awesome fan service from like past games with the emblem rings and shit like that

[00:35:17] Yeah, I thought

[00:35:18] But that engage was was pretty cool. Yeah

[00:35:22] I don't really play fire. I have I don't really play nintendo games too much

[00:35:25] But I bought a switch maybe a year ago and I have five games for and that's one of them

[00:35:30] So that's I was like man, I did I buy a bad game because I played it for about five hours

[00:35:35] I was like this is pretty cool. Yeah

[00:35:37] Yeah, if you like turn-based tactics games fire emblem engage

[00:35:41] It's not a bad purchase. It's it's fun. You're here first everyone too bad. I don't got no xbox achievements

[00:35:49] Could you fucking imagine

[00:35:52] Fuck I guess this will lead into to my now first pick. Uh, tokyo barrage sessions

[00:35:59] uh

[00:36:00] This was one for the for the we you and in switch

[00:36:04] Tokyo Mirage sessions is

[00:36:06] Basically this like it's supposed to be a crossover of fire emblem and the shin megami tense series

[00:36:14] How the fuck do I explain it? It's basically like uh, like a persona game

[00:36:19] but just like

[00:36:21] Really j poppy

[00:36:23] kind of so it's um

[00:36:27] So so instead of being like a high school sim like persona

[00:36:32] You're instead each each character in your party

[00:36:37] Oh, man. No, so before that I guess each character in your party they they work for this like

[00:36:45] uh talent agency basically and each character in your party excels at something different like one character is like a pop idol

[00:36:52] One character has like a cooking show one character

[00:36:56] does like

[00:36:57] How these like a like a stunt man for like a power rangers type show or shit like that

[00:37:02] each character has

[00:37:05] Uh, I think what's called like a mirage which is basically just their persona

[00:37:08] I think I think they're called mirages. Whatever but um each character has a different

[00:37:13] Mirage or whatever that is basically just a different uh fire emblem character

[00:37:18] So like the the main dude he has uh crumb from

[00:37:22] Awakening I believe another character has tharja

[00:37:25] Also from awakening and just a bunch of other shits. Uh, but then the combat is super reminiscent of uh of

[00:37:33] Fucking any any shin megami tense game where you're supposed to be

[00:37:38] Uh identifying enemy weaknesses and when you attack those weaknesses you gain extra turns

[00:37:43] Fuck yeah, when you when you attack an enemy's weakness, you basically will like

[00:37:47] Depending on different

[00:37:49] I forget what the skills are called

[00:37:51] But like you're you can equip different skills

[00:37:53] To your allies so that when you when you hit an enemy's certain weakness

[00:37:57] It'll trigger an attack from your allies and you can basically just stack multiple attacks up

[00:38:03] that you can

[00:38:04] You'd attack that see you attacking enemy with ice

[00:38:07] You can then trigger each of your fucking teammates to attack like three times in a row or something fucking wild

[00:38:13] it's it's nuts

[00:38:14] Uh, it's it's a really fucking good game that I think really gets beaten down because

[00:38:19] One it's not fucking persona

[00:38:22] Two it's not as fire emblem as people want

[00:38:25] three it's not as

[00:38:27] Mainline shin megami tense as everybody wants

[00:38:30] And four because people suck

[00:38:32] It's a great fucking game

[00:38:34] Like if you just pull if you just buy it and play it it's fucking good if you're into

[00:38:39] like, uh

[00:38:40] Super japanesey g rpg's. It's great

[00:38:44] Yeah, I don't have a lot of experience with the persona series specifically

[00:38:47] But I played the shit out of persona for golden on my playstation vita the best handheld gaming device ever

[00:38:52] um, but

[00:38:54] I've never heard of this game before you said something so I was looking it up while you were talking but no

[00:38:58] This seems to really scratch that persona type of itch

[00:39:01] and it seems to be overshadowed by by

[00:39:04] Shin megami tense a and the fire emblem series in the sense that this almost sounds like just uh an

[00:39:10] imitation not not I don't want to say rip off, but just looking at it

[00:39:13] It's like we could tell what you were trying to do but there's been there's been better out there kind of thing

[00:39:18] But based on how you're describing this and it's pulling a little bit from each of those series

[00:39:23] I mean this kind of sounds like a no-brainer for anyone. It's a fan of either series

[00:39:26] So this is now officially on my radar. Yeah, I'm telling you man

[00:39:30] It's it's really fucking good people like to hate on it because

[00:39:34] Whenever I try to bring it up to anybody who has played persona, they'll be like

[00:39:38] Oh, it's just trying to rip persona off. Well, like no shit. It's made by the same fucking people

[00:39:43] Yeah, but so

[00:39:45] But no, it's

[00:39:47] It's really good. I put like damn near 100 hours into it and uh, it's got the same kind of cool

[00:39:53] A cool cast of characters like persona. It's got cool character building and world building

[00:39:58] Uh skill progression shit like that similar to persona and and uh fire emblem and shit like that. It's yeah, it's rad

[00:40:07] It's worth a play

[00:40:10] Dave

[00:40:11] All right, so I guess I can start talking about duke nukem forever

[00:40:18] All right, so uh this game

[00:40:21] Gets shit on quite a bit for good reason. It took a long time to come out

[00:40:24] But the development was extremely tumultuous for one it changed hands it changed hands

[00:40:30] Multiple times though at its development. So it's not like the game was in constant

[00:40:35] What's constantly being worked on for the entire duration that it was and since it was announced

[00:40:38] But the game it's mid. It's fine. You know, it's not a terrible fucking game

[00:40:43] Though that everyone like everyone would would claim that this is probably one of the worst games to ever exist

[00:40:47] And that is just vehemently not true especially uh post

[00:40:52] Godzilla or what was it? No, it's a king kong and uh lord of ring golem and all of these fucking games that came out

[00:41:00] Uh this game functions and I have particularly really good memories of it because I bought it when it first came out

[00:41:06] Me and my friend victor a friend from high school and we raced to get all a thousand gamer score in it

[00:41:12] which requires two playthroughs and um

[00:41:16] On because you have to play it on the hardest difficulty and I think you have to unlock it if I remember correctly

[00:41:21] so

[00:41:22] I was beating the shit out of him for a long time

[00:41:25] And then I got stuck on the final boss and I just could not beat it and I was starting to get

[00:41:29] Angrier and angrier so I was starting to play worse and worse and worse and worse and worse

[00:41:33] And then uh, he lapped me and beat me at the fucking finish line

[00:41:37] Like I basically tripped and did the peter griffon

[00:41:41] The whole fucking time

[00:41:44] And he ended up beating me and uh, I'll I'll just never forget that humiliation and ever since then it has driven me

[00:41:49] To be a better competitive gamer than everyone I ever play against

[00:41:54] to the point of

[00:41:56] heart palpitations

[00:41:57] And I should be like to duke nukem forever. I will die

[00:42:01] uh because of heart palpitations

[00:42:04] Stimming from duke nukem forever

[00:42:07] Can't you

[00:42:08] In in duke nukem forever, can't you also like in the beginning take a poopy out of a toilet and just throw it at stuff

[00:42:14] And make little like poopy splats. That's cool. That's cool. That's worth playing

[00:42:18] Yeah, man, you could you can draw a dick on a white bird white board with that poop

[00:42:23] Hell, yeah, dude. No you have to use a marker. Unfortunately. Oh, damn it. That sucks. Missed opportunity. This isn't Baldur's gate. What are you? What are you expecting?

[00:42:33] I doubt anyone has anything good to say about this game. So I don't know. I exactly what I expected from a duke nukem game

[00:42:40] Yeah, I've played some of the older duke nukem games when I was little like like the kind like I had to hide my room and play

[00:42:45] because my mother would certainly uh have grounded me if she found out but um

[00:42:50] I love the series when when it was older. I never got a chance to play duke nukem forever

[00:42:54] But everything that I saw even never playing it. I feel like this game just got a bad rap

[00:42:58] I think the expectations were just way too high because it took fucking forever to come out and and people were just flat out

[00:43:05] Disappointed with it

[00:43:06] but

[00:43:07] It's always been a game that I've seen as

[00:43:09] Even if it is mid and just kind of decent across the board. There's nothing wrong with a decent video game

[00:43:15] So one of these days i'm gonna tackle it

[00:43:18] Well, yeah, what's your next pick? No, man. All right, so sticking with my previous black sheep theme

[00:43:25] The next game on my list is the third installment of the dead space

[00:43:30] franchise which is dead space three

[00:43:34] So for those that don't know that have been living in a cave most of their lives

[00:43:38] The dead space series is one of the best survival horror experiences takes place in space

[00:43:44] And has one of the most unique enemy classes the the the necroborphs

[00:43:49] And you can't just kill them by shooting them in the head or anything like a typical zombie

[00:43:54] type of combat scenario would play out you have to kill them by

[00:43:58] Dismembering them cut off their arms and legs

[00:44:01] And in the original game is you're playing a guy named isa clark and he's just kind of your everyman

[00:44:07] And he's using engineering tools to try to stave off the the enemy while he makes his grand escape

[00:44:15] But then dead space three came out and this was a complete departure from what that series was kind of like resident evil 6

[00:44:23] Dead space three went very combat heavy and it really strayed away from the horror route

[00:44:28] So are we sensing a theme with the games that I like here?

[00:44:32] But

[00:44:33] Heavy focus on action set pieces this basically this game was basically an uncharted game mixed with gears of war

[00:44:41] because it put in a lot of cover based mechanics

[00:44:46] And it really emphasized combat over anything else

[00:44:50] So a lot of fans were really pissed off with this and I think there was even an element of like microtransaction

[00:44:56] To if I'm not mistaken

[00:44:58] So it really pissed a lot of people off and no one really wanted to give at the time of day

[00:45:03] It wasn't a dead space game. It even had co-op just like resident evil 6 drop in drop out. I believe but

[00:45:10] If you really step back and look at what it is trying to do again

[00:45:15] It's a really fun game because one of the best parts about the dead space series is the combat

[00:45:20] It has very unique combat elements that are very easy to fall in love with it's very easy to pick up and go with

[00:45:26] And there's just something just abundantly satisfying about just dismembering a bunch of monsters and watching their corpses pile up at your feet

[00:45:36] Maybe it's me, but I find that enjoyable

[00:45:38] But it's it's not really a horror game

[00:45:41] It's more of a cover based shooter

[00:45:43] But the game itself was really well done the set pieces are enjoyable to watch

[00:45:47] You just got to go into this game with temperate expectations

[00:45:50] And as long as you know what you're getting into it is not a bad game really and I'm a huge fan of the dead space series

[00:45:57] And I enjoyed this game. This is another game where I completed multiple times because

[00:46:02] It's not a bad game. So

[00:46:04] Dead space three is my uh, is my number two pick

[00:46:08] This you're two for two with uh games that we featured on our show

[00:46:14] Nice, so when am I coming on as a guest?

[00:46:18] Well, we got to find new games because we've already covered these

[00:46:21] One thing that I really like about uh dead space three

[00:46:24] Which is something that not a lot of cooperative games implement is this the this this feeling of one of the characters being crazy

[00:46:32] And slowly losing their minds. Yes, which um, the the secondary character. I don't know what his name is the red guy

[00:46:39] Carver

[00:46:40] He is constantly seeing shit and there are side missions that are that are exclusive to co-op

[00:46:47] Where he sees like a little girl run into a house into a room and

[00:46:52] You you can walk in there and have like a little back story for him and like learn about his stuff and the whole time like

[00:46:59] Uh, your character will be seeing something completely different than the than isaac will be like

[00:47:04] There'll be a bunch of dead bodies and body bags on the floor

[00:47:07] but carver is seeing presence

[00:47:09] And like

[00:47:10] It's not immediately apparent that that's the case. You know what I mean

[00:47:14] Like it would you would have to be like man. What are all these presents doing around and then your co-op partner's like

[00:47:19] The fuck are you talking about man?

[00:47:22] What presence that's an awesome gameplay mechanic and I never got to experience that because I never got to play this game

[00:47:27] with another person but

[00:47:28] Being able to experience that with somebody in a real time especially playing that scenario for the very first time

[00:47:34] That's that's special. So missed opportunity

[00:47:38] Nice

[00:47:39] Brock, what's your next one?

[00:47:41] My next one here gentlemen. I am going to completely turn on 180 from my first pick

[00:47:46] And I'm gonna go call duty vanguard as my next big gentleman

[00:47:50] um

[00:47:51] Yeah, yeah

[00:47:53] Not very liked at all for uh

[00:47:58] Obvious reasons, I guess I could put it but I picked this game

[00:48:03] specifically just to go off of good times with the boys and the campaign in my eyes wasn't

[00:48:10] It was if I had to rate it out of 100

[00:48:13] percent of a scale I'd put it at a

[00:48:16] Probably at a it might be a little high but like a 85 percent

[00:48:19] But my main reason why I thought this game like to this I would always remember and

[00:48:26] I dropped out of college by the way to all the listeners everyone who knows me knows that but

[00:48:30] When I was in college, I remember just

[00:48:33] The feeling of getting home from class and hopping on call duty vanguard with the boys

[00:48:39] It got me through so much ps

[00:48:42] In my life

[00:48:43] That every any time I hear

[00:48:46] Like if it ever comes back in conversation and everyone's like, oh my god vanguard. What were they doing? I'm just like hey

[00:48:52] Chill the hell out. Okay that game has a special place in my heart

[00:48:56] but uh

[00:48:58] And I like I think if I remember correctly online multiplayer

[00:49:03] And when that first release and stuff was just it was it was it had it. I don't know how to put it other than

[00:49:10] uh

[00:49:11] Proving other people's points that it was just straight. It was it was it was it was interesting. I'll put up that it was interesting

[00:49:17] But that's my second pick called duty vanguard

[00:49:21] Yeah, you can't put you can't put a price on the game that makes you feel that way

[00:49:24] Regardless of how bad it is or good it is if it's one of those you can come home to when it brings you to your

[00:49:30] happy place

[00:49:32] That's that's awesome. I heard vanguard wasn't all that great, but I've not personally played it so I can't speak to it

[00:49:37] But that that's the mark of a good game through and through. Yes. Yeah, so good pick

[00:49:43] Yeah, this is around the time that I also wandered away from call of duty. So

[00:49:47] I I've been

[00:49:49] The the developments of the

[00:49:52] Like it was modern warfare that a bunch of people were wanting me to

[00:49:56] Purchase and play but what I did end up buying the black ops cold war

[00:50:01] specifically because I don't know if anyone this is a really stupid reason to buy a game by the way, but

[00:50:05] Um, I don't know if anyone remembers this but whenever they released a trailer for it. They included footage of tennaman square in it

[00:50:12] and

[00:50:13] It immediately got pulled down so that they could edit it out because obviously china

[00:50:17] And so I was like well that is probably one of the craziest things i've ever seen a

[00:50:23] Developer ever do so i'm gonna buy that just because that's funny like I just want to be part of history now

[00:50:30] And then I played it for like an hour and I was like yep, this is called duty

[00:50:34] With back to my fucking doki doki literature club or something

[00:50:38] I don't know what the fuck i was playing they've been making a fucking call of duty game

[00:50:43] Every single year

[00:50:44] Since 2005 holy shit

[00:50:48] And nothing like nothing like black ops 2

[00:50:51] Nothing like it. They haven't delivered since

[00:50:54] Yeah, the last one I played was uh was ghosts

[00:50:58] Uh, holy fuck and then there was advanced warfare. Damn. I didn't even know that that

[00:51:04] Black ops cold war even existed until today so uh, so thank you. Cold war is really good. Yeah, I agree

[00:51:10] It's it's it's cool because there's like choice and and shit

[00:51:13] So it's like it's not like all the other call of duty campaigns

[00:51:16] Speaking of choice. I'm gonna go with chrono cross

[00:51:19] Talk about this game for like the 80 millionth time again another one that I talked about on your fucking show

[00:51:24] uh

[00:51:26] Chrono cross it's a lot of hate because

[00:51:28] Yeah, it's not chrono trigger chrono trigger is the one everybody fucking loved. Well, it's not everybody loves but

[00:51:34] Uh, it hailed as like uh, like a perfect game to so many people and then chrono cross came out and it was

[00:51:41] different in so many fucking ways, but

[00:51:44] a chrono cross is just

[00:51:46] Really really good in its own ways people like to say that oh if it didn't have chrono in its name

[00:51:51] It would be a great game

[00:51:52] But that's stupid like even with like as a game in the chrono series has a lot of ties to chrono trigger like you see

[00:52:00] basically

[00:52:02] Without spoiling anything at all the chrono cross is is

[00:52:06] How I man, I don't know how to say it without spoiling anything but it's related a lot to chrono trigger, but

[00:52:12] Uh first off the music and the visuals are really fucking good, especially the soundtrack. Holy shit. The soundtrack is so good

[00:52:19] The combat is really wonky and weird. It's like

[00:52:23] I guess at first it's really wonky and weird, but so your your characters

[00:52:28] Oh, how do I explain it? Uh, it's turn based but kind of not your your characters when you go to attack you can do

[00:52:36] a light attack a medium attack or heavy attack, but uh

[00:52:40] Uh light attacks we use like one unit of stamina medium attacks used to basically you attack until your stamina runs out and then

[00:52:48] Uh, I don't know. It's it's weird to explain. He's got to go play it

[00:52:51] But chrono cross is great a lot of replayability because there's a fucking shit ton of recruitable characters

[00:52:56] You can get and they're all wacky and weird

[00:52:58] They have their own unique like speech patterns and accents and shit like that

[00:53:03] There's a lot of really goofy characters like one character is this little like

[00:53:06] A little alien guy with a space helmet and his weapon is a ray gun. That's cool

[00:53:11] Another character is the guy who got transformed into a mushroom

[00:53:15] Another character is this little like dragon creature

[00:53:20] Like his name is just draggy and he evolves slowly depending on what color of elements you give him

[00:53:27] I'm gonna keep going again and again again another character is a sentient voodoo doll

[00:53:30] Have I sold you guys in the game yet another character?

[00:53:33] Another character is uh this this dog that talks like this he talks like this and

[00:53:39] Fuck this

[00:53:42] Let's go play chrono cross, please

[00:53:44] Please

[00:53:46] My favorite part is when you got to save rebecca from mohammed ali. I really like that part. That's a good one

[00:53:53] Really innovative

[00:53:55] It's that illusion of choice

[00:53:57] Yeah, well, I am I am now interested that sold me completely

[00:54:01] The mohammed ali fight definitely. Yeah, that was a big turning point for the game

[00:54:05] Yeah, I really hate spoiling that part for everyone because it's so crazy when it first happens

[00:54:09] You just don't expect it. But I mean like I got to get people playing this game. Yeah somehow you gotta sell copies

[00:54:16] Uh

[00:54:17] Before we start the the last round of picks, how about we take an ad break the other song good to you guys?

[00:57:10] They say to drink eight to ten cups of water per day to stay properly hydrated

[00:57:14] But sometimes that can be difficult to do and completely inconvenient

[00:57:18] And most of us don't feel like carrying a gallon of water with us at all times

[00:59:22] uh from the

[00:59:24] From the producers of uh of pimp my ride and other mtv shows that you know and love comes uh comes pimp my carriage

[00:59:32] Oh, fuck. Uh, what the fuck is his name?

[00:59:36] What's the host name the rapper exhibit there we go. Uh, no longer host to buy exhibit instead. We've got

[00:59:42] What what's another like uh

[00:59:44] Like one hit wonder rapper coolie. No not coolio

[00:59:47] juicy j

[00:59:49] Yeah, hosted by juicy j

[00:59:52] What is that a is that one of the is that one of the icp clam posse guys?

[01:00:00] Insane clam pussy, I don't know man

[01:00:02] Uh, yeah, uh pimp my carriage. Hey instead of west coast customs. We've got this barn full of amish dads

[01:00:11] Uh, they'll build they'll they'll take your your old raggedy poopy dumpy carriage and they'll they'll rebuild it

[01:00:17] Repurpose it into some bumpin

[01:00:20] pussy slaying mobile

[01:00:22] Like you've never ever seen before they'll uh

[01:00:26] You and they're shirtless and they are buff

[01:00:29] Yes, they they they have I mean all of suspenders covering their nipples

[01:00:33] Because I mean come on gotta have some decency. They don't have refrigerators

[01:00:37] They have to like they have to fan their food all night to keep it cold make sure it doesn't spoil

[01:00:43] So that really helps with their their ability to maneuver around

[01:00:47] Uh the the carriages which we get all on camera

[01:00:51] Yes, yes, and they're and and because they don't have fridges

[01:00:55] They have to salt their food to preserve it so their sodium intake is through the fucking roof

[01:01:00] But I mean boy they they handle it because they're they're installing all the fucking

[01:01:06] I almost said hydraulics, but they wouldn't have hydraulics in a fucking amish barn

[01:01:10] They do have hydraulics, but they're not electronic like uh, so what it is

[01:01:14] Is it's attached to the horse and you just have to hit it harder and the horse kicks the carriage and the carriage lifts up

[01:01:22] It's really cool

[01:01:25] They've got

[01:01:27] Ship they've got they've got a whole like black smithing station set up in the back of your carriage

[01:01:32] There's plenty of room for people to like lay out and chillax

[01:01:36] Hang out by the fire the blacksmith fire, but also yeah, you got your blacksmith back there

[01:01:41] He's going ham on some horseshoes or uh or a nice

[01:01:46] Do the amish actually have blacksmiths. Yeah

[01:01:49] That's dagger

[01:01:51] In case you're going downtown. Yeah, you gotta have

[01:01:55] It's kind of unfortunately costs you three gold coins

[01:01:57] So you're gonna have to go and get uh like a transaction at a bank. You have to get that uh

[01:02:03] Whatever it's called

[01:02:08] No mad help me out. What else what else do uh, what else have they done on pimp my carriage the hit new mtv show

[01:02:15] Oh, jeez if if if nothing else think of it this way

[01:02:18] How many times have you seen a carriage go down the road that's blocking your way down the roadway and you got to sit and watch it go by

[01:02:25] At least once uh every decade

[01:02:28] Exactly so when that decade comes you need to make sure that that carriage is in tip top shape

[01:02:34] Visually so it is stunning to look at and it all starts with that horse up front

[01:02:38] The bridle and everything is beautifully done with led lights that are blinding with dazzling effects

[01:02:45] That's

[01:02:48] And the horse has so many stickers on it. They've slapped like eight million stickers on that horse

[01:02:53] It goes so much faster with those flame stickers that they got from uh, uh,

[01:02:57] Nintendo magazine from 1998 that they just had way too many uh copies of exactly out of a landfill

[01:03:05] That's right because what do you do with stickers? You got to stick them on shit

[01:03:07] Where are you gonna stick them on a horse's ass?

[01:03:10] Exactly

[01:03:11] And they've got they've got cool like chinese dragon, uh like vinyl decals or whatever on the side of your carriage

[01:03:17] To to make it look make it look sweet so you can pick up those hot amish babes

[01:03:22] Uh

[01:03:23] Brock what's your favorite? What's your favorite segment on on pimp my carriage?

[01:03:27] Oh, of course tell me the new meaning to riding dirty

[01:03:31] Oh

[01:03:33] Yes, uh you guys completely you guys forgot the best part actually if you guys act now

[01:03:38] If you go out stop this podcast episode right now put it on pause and you go out

[01:03:43] You'll get a special deal of your own

[01:03:46] Your price sitting there you folks at home probably wondering what type what type of deal you're wondering

[01:03:51] Well, i'm about to tell you guys if you go out now go pimp your carriage

[01:03:55] Oh

[01:03:57] Jesus

[01:03:59] My dog just jumps here the shit out of me dude. You'll get one jump scare

[01:04:04] Her nose right in my car. You'll get one jump scare if you go out and order this

[01:04:10] Fucking carriage right now

[01:04:19] My dog her nose right in my car. I just scared the fuck out of me. I didn't know what the fuck that was

[01:04:25] I thought you had a fucking heart attack and died or something

[01:04:28] That was my knee slamming into the fucking desk. Holy shit

[01:04:33] Oh, man. Yep. That's that's pimp my wheelchair coming in. They're not wheel

[01:04:39] That's season two everything we just said psych it's actually a wheelchair everybody

[01:04:45] Coming to mtv spring

[01:04:48] 2025 baby will break juicy jay out of prison or is juicy jay alive? Hang on

[01:04:53] Who is juicy jay and why the fuck am i thinking of them see if there are any tour dates and insane clown pussy

[01:04:59] insane clan pussy or whatever

[01:05:02] Uh, he is alive. He is not in jail. Thank god. Okay. We got him. Uh spring 2025 baby last time monster pot

[01:05:14] Spilled coffee on my fucking keyboard. Oh, yeah, I think we're back. Yeah, we're back. Yeah. Yeah

[01:05:20] Uh, naïve, I think it's your turn

[01:05:22] Oh, uh, let me see. Let me think. Let me think. Yeah

[01:05:26] I'm trying to pick one that I can actually talk about because really the first two were the only ones I didn't need to say about passionately

[01:05:33] Uh, let's talk about

[01:05:36] Brink I guess

[01:05:39] No, that's a that's a good one. Yep

[01:05:42] All right, brink was a Bethesda game. Uh, this was back when Bethesda could do no wrong in my eyes

[01:05:47] There were the three big boy b companies Bethesda bungee and I forget the other one

[01:05:54] Uh

[01:05:55] I really do forget the other one bio where that's it. All right, so uh

[01:05:59] Brink whenever brink was coming out. I was in high school and everybody was freaking out about it and in our high school

[01:06:06] Everyone was playing on the xbox 360. We were all fucking best friends. I was like a

[01:06:11] Uh, I was a pretty popular boy and all of the it was a high school that didn't really have clicks

[01:06:16] So like all the football people were smoking weed with the skaters and fucking we were all drinking with the cheerleaders and shit

[01:06:22] So it was pretty cool and everybody was going to buy brink

[01:06:25] And so I had this really weird experience where

[01:06:29] I never I never played brink not in a full lobby full of friends

[01:06:33] And and we were all in separate parties and we were texting each other talking shit and everything

[01:06:38] So we had a fucking blast and philip remembers this differently because he just wanted to play halo the whole time

[01:06:44] But nobody wanted to play halo because everybody had brink so

[01:06:48] Uh, it was it's a really strange experience whenever

[01:06:52] Years down the line because brink is free now on steam and people still play it

[01:06:57] but uh, I played it with a my friend victor the same person I uh lost duke nukem forever to and

[01:07:03] that game is

[01:07:05] Really rough

[01:07:06] It's like really stiff and strange just even on the pc

[01:07:09] But it had a whole lot of innovative ideas, especially with the parkour system and the uh

[01:07:15] It had a system where your objectives were kind of updated in a

[01:07:22] rng kind of way

[01:07:23] So I don't remember exactly how it was described

[01:07:26] But you had a whole bunch of like sub objectives

[01:07:29] It was basically you were always just doing the same thing in each mission

[01:07:33] but

[01:07:34] You were also trying to do these sub objectives that would open a different passageway

[01:07:38] So that your teammates could like have a shortcut to get to the place faster or like

[01:07:42] Give you an advantage in like team fights because the enemy's defending in this area

[01:07:46] This gives you like a flanking formation that makes it harder to defend the area

[01:07:50] It's like there's a whole lot of really interesting things and another thing that they had in this game that I really liked was

[01:07:56] Which was implemented in a game. We played recently, uh the finals

[01:08:00] This the finals ripped something straight from brink and that was having three body types that changed the way that you're

[01:08:07] It changed how fast your character was how nimble they were and also gave them more health

[01:08:12] Depending on how big you were

[01:08:13] So that was something that was really interesting that you could like kind of customize your characters in a way in this like multiplayer

[01:08:21] arena and

[01:08:23] It not a lot of games were doing that

[01:08:26] I just think it was uh, it was an interesting game for its time

[01:08:28] And it got shit on quite a bit especially when it first came out because

[01:08:33] Uh a handful of my friends were not happy that we all doubled down on this game

[01:08:39] Yeah, I don't know if it goes to say that this was a little ahead of its time almost

[01:08:43] But there was a lot that this game brought to the table that I see in a lot of games nowadays little bits and pieces

[01:08:50] Those body types specifically it seems like such a basic mechanic

[01:08:55] but choosing between a light or a medium or a heavy body type and all the benefits or the negatives that kind of come with it

[01:09:01] Just that alone it's it's

[01:09:03] Those type of gameplay mechanics that I think people take for granted and just see is I don't know just something

[01:09:08] Maybe stereotypical of a genre or something like that

[01:09:11] But there's a lot to like here and this game I 100% agree with you Dave completely underappreciated

[01:09:18] It was um

[01:09:20] run me a lot of

[01:09:22] I guess retrospectively reminds me a lot of like like a mix of

[01:09:26] overwatch

[01:09:27] And uh team fortress 2 almost but like with that that parkour system was really fucking cool

[01:09:33] Though if you like held down one button you would just you just ran and whatever you came across

[01:09:37] You would just your character would just do automatically and shit. That was really fucking cool

[01:09:42] It was like an evolution of halo 3 which was like super vertical like there was a lot of verticality to halo 3

[01:09:48] but this game

[01:09:50] Let you fluidly get that verticality

[01:09:52] Like there was a lot of directions once you really started getting hang of the parkour system that you could attack people from

[01:09:58] That they would just not expect. You know what i'm saying like people falling down

[01:10:02] It's like how birds don't look up because they don't expect something to be above them

[01:10:07] But then you then it's surprised it's majima and he's falling from a fucking plane to kill an eagle or something

[01:10:14] I don't know

[01:10:15] Oh, man, that's such a good fucking pick

[01:10:18] God damn

[01:10:19] I like that you brought up someone brought up

[01:10:22] Overwatch and the other the thing I was choosing between brink was uh battle born. I almost brought that one up

[01:10:28] Oh battle born. It's a good one too. Fuck. I maybe we'll talk about it later if we have more time

[01:10:33] Fuck yeah, I played the beta for that game

[01:10:36] Another real one to rip to

[01:10:38] Uh, no bad

[01:10:40] All right, so my next pick i'm going old with this one

[01:10:43] So hopefully you gentlemen have either played or know about this game. If not, I'll uh, I'll educate

[01:10:48] So back in 1987 on the original nintendo

[01:10:53] Came out a game called top gun based on the popular popular movie starring tom cruise

[01:11:01] So

[01:11:02] I'm not sure if this game was really hated back in the day. It was actually critically acclaimed and sold pretty well

[01:11:08] But when I talk retro games with some of the gamers that I talk retro games with

[01:11:13] Anytime I bring this game up. It is often called the quote-unquote crash your plane into the ocean simulator

[01:11:20] Uh for those that have not played it when you play this game near the end of every level

[01:11:25] You have to land your f14 tomcat on the aircraft carrier and it is

[01:11:30] Stupidly hard to do it and nine times out of 10. You're going to watch a little pixelated plane fly straight into the ocean

[01:11:37] This game has unforgiving difficulty. It's stupidly hard. It's not very fun

[01:11:43] Landing on the carrier at the end of each mission is hard and even if you follow the directions to a t

[01:11:48] You sometimes miss and it's it's it's kind of frustrating

[01:11:51] And in some of the other levels you actually have to refill your plane in midair

[01:11:55] Which sounds pretty cool for a really old game

[01:11:58] But you have to line up the hose with the front of your plane

[01:12:01] And if you screw this up for some reason the refueling jet is just going to leave your ass out in the sky

[01:12:07] And then the game makes you play with low fuel and you have no hope of finishing the level and you just have to wait for yourself

[01:12:14] To crash and die. It's brutal

[01:12:16] but

[01:12:17] If you actually take the time and sit down with this game and give it a chance for a game released in 87

[01:12:23] It absolutely has its merits

[01:12:26] There is gameplay that you have to balance between chasing a high score by shooting enemies

[01:12:31] Or you have to balance survival by pitching left and right to avoid gunfire and missiles

[01:12:37] And and I don't think landing on the carrier was all that hard what you understand how you control your air speed with the two button

[01:12:44] NES controller

[01:12:45] It's not a perfect game by any means

[01:12:47] It's it's it's very difficult to play at times and it's very anger inducing

[01:12:52] And I know a lot of retro gamers don't really care for it

[01:12:55] And this is kind of a shameless plug though

[01:12:57] But I am working on my own podcast episode of this

[01:13:00] On this particular game right now to kind of explain why it's not that bad of a game

[01:13:05] But I really like top gun for the NES. It's my favorite movie of all time

[01:13:11] I haven't heard a lot of people say that they like it, but it ain't half bad

[01:13:14] If you're looking for something old school retro and you kind of like flying simulators and you just want to chase a high score

[01:13:21] You could do much worse than this so

[01:13:25] And any any of you gentlemen play this game or know of it

[01:13:28] Isn't Aaron isn't one of your least favorite games of all time a top gun game

[01:13:33] Yeah, mine was top gun guts and glory which was on the game boy

[01:13:37] And that game fucking

[01:13:40] So bad

[01:13:44] One of these days one of my one of my collecting goals

[01:13:46] I I've got a decent physical game collection. I want to collect all of the top gun games physically

[01:13:52] It's my favorite movie

[01:13:53] I've got a I've got a hard on for it for no other reason that I just love

[01:13:57] I just love the movie. It's stupid popcorn eating fun

[01:14:01] But yeah, I have heard that game is dog shit, but I'm still gonna play it anyway

[01:14:06] I thought the game was based on footloose

[01:14:10] Footloose in the air

[01:14:15] Brock

[01:14:18] I'm going I was going to actually go sign frontiers here

[01:14:21] But I'm gonna do a last minute switch up, but we're gonna still stay on this on the hog though

[01:14:25] I'm gonna go I'm gonna go

[01:14:27] On the the book series collection games secret rings in the black knight. I feel like this these games get a little bit more

[01:14:39] Critics then front front when frontiers was released

[01:14:42] It had it had like critiques, but I feel like since the dlc and the updates

[01:14:46] I feel like

[01:14:48] A lot of people like it a lot more other than Mikey and rick

[01:14:51] I guess if you ask them, I don't think it's still is a good. I think but

[01:14:55] Secret rings in black knight

[01:14:57] I'm not sure what like I remember or like when I was a kid when I got this game

[01:15:02] Like I did the whole cringe with the Wii remote and like I actually did like did the sword movements and stuff

[01:15:06] And sweating my ass off in my living room

[01:15:09] No, yeah, dude. Yeah, it was pretty I think I sit here and cringe as I talk about it

[01:15:14] Because I remember like what I was doing, but uh, I mean I

[01:15:19] And I replayed it with uh on the

[01:15:23] Not not recently, but it was like two three months ago. I replayed both of them

[01:15:27] and I thought

[01:15:28] I sat back and I don't know if this was just me blindingly

[01:15:32] Just like enjoying it because I'm a Sonic the Hedgehog fan

[01:15:34] But I thought for what it's worth and like

[01:15:37] Like how its age was shown. I felt like the stories are great

[01:15:42] I mean the graphics showed its age, of course, but I mean

[01:15:45] Dark spine and secret rings with that transformation and that cutscene. I thought it was I always thought it was badass and uh

[01:15:52] Excalibur, I mean Sonic the Hedgehog has a fn sword

[01:15:56] I mean, I guess that's our it can be a critique

[01:15:58] But I just find it badass as fuck in my personal opinion, but uh

[01:16:02] Uh, either way, I mean if anyone know who knows me

[01:16:06] I will bat for a sock. I will go to bat for Sonic the Hedgehog

[01:16:10] any day of the week so uh

[01:16:15] Those are my two those are my picks those are great picks man

[01:16:19] Yeah, Sonic gets shit on a lot for how like janky its games can be and how like mid it can be a lot

[01:16:26] But yeah, they're usually they're usually pretty fucking good and respectfully so because like I like

[01:16:33] I'm gonna bring it up. Oh six like I can't defend oh six

[01:16:36] I'm not sure what the fuck they're doing for oh six, but like I just

[01:16:40] Respectfully so

[01:16:42] One of my favorite racing games ever is uh

[01:16:46] One of the the earth. What the fuck Sonic riders. Yeah, yeah, yeah

[01:16:49] Sonic riders zero gravity I guess though those were reviewed pretty midly but uh

[01:16:53] Our midley's not a fucking word reviewed as being pretty mid, but

[01:16:57] Yeah, those were pretty fucking fun great great picks those are great picks

[01:17:02] In my last one, I'm gonna go Dark Souls 2

[01:17:07] This is the Dark Souls game that I've played the most

[01:17:09] Like I've replayed Dark Souls 2 more than have any other Dark Souls game

[01:17:13] And from what I've gathered about the game a lot of people will say that it's it's easier and it's

[01:17:21] I I don't

[01:17:22] Know 100 exactly why it is the people

[01:17:25] Uh dislike this game compared to like the the first and then possibly the third and all the other

[01:17:30] Souls born games, but uh Dark Souls 2

[01:17:34] I thought for one the the hub town of Majula. I love me a good upgradeable hub area

[01:17:41] That gets my boner rage and more than anything else in the fucking world of video games is an upgradeable hub area

[01:17:48] And you slowly unlock more and more little little huts and houses you get like the blacksmith guy who can

[01:17:55] Fix your shit or whatever the the fucking dumb ugly cat thing in the wall that's there too

[01:18:01] All sorts of great shit

[01:18:04] Sure, maybe it is the easiest one in the series, but hey man

[01:18:11] I thought it was fun. I had a great time with it. So uh fuck them. Fuck. Oh fuck all you

[01:18:17] I don't know dude

[01:18:18] Fuck them

[01:18:21] Yeah, there's nothing wrong with the game that lets you have a good time no matter how easy it is so

[01:18:28] Fuck them exactly. Fuck them if you're listening to this

[01:18:33] Fuck you

[01:18:39] But uh, I guess like the last minute thing

[01:18:42] Battleborn was awesome. I played the beta

[01:18:45] I fucking loved it

[01:18:46] I played as that like eight armed witch bitch and I fucking murdered everybody

[01:18:51] God damn it. Battleborn was good rip to another real one another rip

[01:18:55] Yeah, it was a lot more of a MOBA than overwatch was which is a shame because it was directly murdered by overwatch

[01:19:01] And then look at us now with overwatch sucking ass and being the same game. It was forever ago. Hey man

[01:19:07] Yeah, Overwatch 2 is great. We get what we deserve

[01:19:11] All right

[01:19:13] I don't know I haven't played overwatch

[01:19:19] What's it that's it listeners that's uh those are all the best

[01:19:23] Games that people hate that are actually good. There we go. Perfect

[01:19:27] Once more gentlemen, let the listeners know where they can find you and your shows and all that stuff

[01:19:33] Hey, uh Brock start us off with that. Oh Jesus Christ. Oh at once. Oh god. Yeah. Hold on. Let me grab the script. No, I'm just kidding

[01:19:42] Yeah, like I said at the beginning there, uh the outcast podcast
