[00:00:12] Hello listener, you are listening to Video Games Colon Analyzed, the video game podcast where I, the host, Tommy, give a critical analysis of video games, the art form and interactive entertainment, the classic and retro video games, and I tell you if they are worth playing today.
[00:00:35] And I always have a guest with me because it would be silly to talk about video games alone, and my guest this week is Aaron. Hi there Aaron, how are you today? I'm doing pretty well. I got a lot of stuff done today. Cut it down. I didn't ask for an essay. Today's game we're talking about is Super Metroid, the sequel to Metroid.
[00:01:03] Um, and it's the, it's a video game on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, which is the sequel to the Nintendo Entertainment System. They both have Super, uh, signifying which console it's on and which game it is. And, uh, Super Metroid has, uh, is a, is a game where you go, you move left to right and also up and down, but it's, it's mainly, uh, moving left to right.
[00:01:32] And, uh, there are aliens. You're, you're on an alien planet where there are aliens and you play as, uh, Samus, Samus Aaron. And, um, that's almost like your name and, uh, and, uh, you, you go through and collect items to, to upgrade your suit. And that's pretty much it. Uh, what did you think Aaron? I mean, I think it's kind of cool that this game lets you move up and down. You don't get to do that in a lot of games.
[00:02:00] I mean, uh, yes, you can jump, but this game does it differently. Um, also the aliens, the aliens are cool. The creatures, there's spiky turtles, which I guess are also in Mario, but they're different. There's a little mushroom creatures, which I guess are also in Mario, but they're different. There's a, uh, a big bad reptilian dragon, like bad guy, which I guess is also in Mario, but it's different.
[00:02:28] Um, yeah. Also, uh, this game came out in 1994. Um, which, uh, a lot of people don't know. Uh, yes. The year Kurt Cobain, uh, passed. Who? The singer for Nirvana. That's a band. Yeah. Smells like teen spirit, you know, um, come as you are in bloom.
[00:02:58] They had a lot of hits. Hmm. The grunge band, Tommy, you know, Kurt Cobain, he, he shot himself. Uh, oh dear. Uh, this is, this is kind of beyond what the, uh, show is supposed to be. Uh, let's, let's, let's reel it back in. Um, up and down though, moving up and down. It feels good in this game. Left to right. Feels good. Uh, the environments are cool. Again, alien planet all feels alien. Don't recognize any of it. Yeah.
[00:03:27] None of it looks like Iowa to me. So that's honestly kind of similar to what I was going to say is like, when you, when you walk around earth, you just kind of see earth things like grass and trees. And, but when, uh, in super Metroid, you're traveling around, it's, it's all alien things, which is different. And that's kind of like, that's kind of something video games can do is, is they, they let you explore, uh, places that aren't earth and, and do things that you can't normally do.
[00:03:53] And that's something that super Metroid, uh, does very well is it lets you do things that you can't normally do. Is she also, uh, the main character, what, what, which is her name is Samuel Aaron say Samus Aaron. I it's a, he, ah, okay. Uh, so the main character has a gun arm, which is kind of cool. Uh, I like that you can unlock different, different gun arm, uh, beams. You can get like an ice beam, a wave beam.
[00:04:22] You can charge it up, shoot it, uh, kind of like you would with Mega Man, not trying to point any fingers here. Uh, but otherwise good, man. Uh, we should talk about Mega Man sometime. I don't think we need to. Well, no. Okay. Well, I'll have a different guest on to talk about Mega Man, then you do what you want. I will, um, super Metroid.
[00:04:50] Uh, if I had to give it a review score, which is something we do, something I do. And the guest also does. Um, I'm going to give it, I'm going to give it a super. Four stars out of five. Ooh. Okay. Okay. I'm going to give it, uh, what a score would you give it? Well, you know, I would give it, uh, we'll say, we'll say, we'll say one star and then four Metroids.
[00:05:19] That's, uh, I'm not trying to do math right now. So one star and four Metroids. That's all we need to know. And, um, and, uh, that's what do you think that would equate to? What, uh, what's the conversion rate on Metroids? That's that's video games analyzed. Uh, be sure to, to check out the next episode where I will analyze another video game with the guests.
[00:05:48] Uh, keep on gaming. I'll see you next time. you
