[00:00:00] ,
[00:00:10] clear out the bats that I'm a throat here, get them out.
[00:00:45] Welcome back to Super Ghost Radio, I am your host Jerry and as always most of the time
[00:00:54] and most definitely today I am joined by Greg but not Beth.
[00:00:58] She she gone.
[00:01:00] Today is not liar.
[00:01:03] Today is the outlier.
[00:01:05] Beth is in the shadows on somewhere probably that's either that you kill.
[00:01:10] And I banished her to the shadow realm.
[00:01:13] Is that how that works?
[00:01:15] Yeah, it's not a fucking joke.
[00:01:18] It's serious.
[00:01:19] She challenged me and I was like I don't know if you should.
[00:01:23] And she's like no no it's fine and it's not fine.
[00:01:27] She is in the shadow realm I have to buy her ant and mother flowers.
[00:01:33] Well, if you've been with us for a minute thank you for your support.
[00:01:39] If you're new welcome to your new favorite podcast we're going to break down the highs
[00:01:43] and lows across all forms of video game media.
[00:01:46] Now today we are going to be gushing about some of our favorite video game remakes.
[00:01:52] If you're new interesting place to start.
[00:01:54] Yeah, well who can blame you it's episode sixty nine.
[00:02:00] Hey, I forgot about that actually.
[00:02:05] I'm so glad that you got that sixty nine dude.
[00:02:10] Veridize.
[00:02:11] King of the castle king of the castle.
[00:02:15] If you're new here we do a lot of boring.
[00:02:22] We don't actually we we rarely a femur touch on well well who we it's not a minute see
[00:02:29] it's not even correct.
[00:02:31] That's how how little we.
[00:02:34] I always do have like whatever someone's like yeah on the weekend my wife I'll just be
[00:02:39] like my wife.
[00:02:41] Yeah, it's like.
[00:02:46] God is so obnoxious but it'll never not be funny to me.
[00:02:49] I don't know like I just oh we all have these like these ticks that's like if anybody says
[00:02:54] it's been to me.
[00:02:56] Oh yeah you just automatically go right.
[00:03:00] It's bad and then I can't help that.
[00:03:03] It just happens.
[00:03:04] RIP.
[00:03:05] Right.
[00:03:06] It didn't smash mouth guy die.
[00:03:12] That's a very good lady.
[00:03:14] Oh that's right.
[00:03:18] Yeah, that is the very so not I retract my RIP and well I'm pretty you know Steven page
[00:03:27] in the gang get good rest eventually yeah.
[00:03:32] No, no tonight have a good sleep.
[00:03:36] Anyway, we're going to be talking about some video game remakes and kind of just showcase
[00:03:44] you know it's this isn't going to be like a tiered list or anything because they'll probably
[00:03:48] do more of these because there seems to be a trend that remakes are a thing like insert
[00:03:57] the you know the meme of of Will Farrell from Zoolander and Mela is it Mela Mela Jovich
[00:04:08] like fanning themselves saying so hot right now because damn remakes are all over the
[00:04:14] place and you know what some are pretty fun good.
[00:04:17] You know what they but it's not been in the right now they've been going on for quite
[00:04:22] a while as you will hear yeah yeah they I mean somewhere along the line.
[00:04:27] Does somebody learn that nostalgia sells yes it does it certainly does so much so that
[00:04:35] we create another podcast go check out Retro Rehab.
[00:04:39] That's something else that you can hear from Super Ghost where we we capitalize on nostalgia
[00:04:47] but no today today we are going to talk about some of these remakes where each kind of
[00:04:54] kind of list a few of our favorites ones that you can play today because Lord knows there's
[00:05:00] more coming out and we might touch on a few of those but first Greg what are you what do
[00:05:07] you been doing what have you been you've been playing anything or watching anything what I've
[00:05:12] been doing what about how I've been how have I been wedding in my gaming whistle yeah let
[00:05:18] me tell you so right off the gate and fighting for liberty and freedom in the hell
[00:05:24] that was two hell yeah brother whenever I whenever I get the opportunity to whenever a
[00:05:29] major order comes out there's a new one that just came up today is there oh it is yeah
[00:05:34] it's that terminates we're going to push them back more so I've been playing like how
[00:05:40] that is to having a blast non stop some of the best best co-op I've played in years and
[00:05:50] easy just kind of get in and out you know yep and like I got to say to like I I haven't played
[00:05:57] it for about a week and the other night I just jumped on with you again and yeah it's kind
[00:06:03] of like riding a bike you don't really it's not hard to pick up really like no it's it's easy
[00:06:11] you can use what you're what you want some things are better than others but in general you
[00:06:16] can use what you want it's fine yeah and they just announced that you know they don't like
[00:06:22] FOMO so those those battle passes aren't going anywhere yep they don't expire so you know
[00:06:29] you can slowly work your way through game get that primo currency and get in there
[00:06:35] yep highly highly encourage everybody to check that game out so good I would dare say that
[00:06:43] what no go ahead I was going to say it's probably the most fun I've had in co-op since you introduced
[00:06:49] me to monster hunter if I'm being honest yeah it definitely is because it's filled with moments
[00:06:56] yeah it's like monster hunter it's filled with moments yep and so good yeah I think that's
[00:07:00] you know yeah I think that's actually a pretty pretty strong selling point for both of those
[00:07:06] games is just like the the online interaction and just like
[00:07:11] the moments that you share I've just like hilarity like the other night when you were you were like
[00:07:17] hey you see these like these little orb things you just give them a smack you know they said you fly
[00:07:23] and I see you do it and I'm like it looks pretty cool and as I'm walking up I'm like does this
[00:07:28] do you take damage from this and you're like a little bit mother fucker I nearly died
[00:07:34] it shot me so far but look how far you traveled and in a fraction of the time
[00:07:41] it wasn't in the direction I wanted to go though it was like away from everybody else yeah the
[00:07:46] orbs give it the orbs take with away what can you do yeah I guess so what else you've been playing
[00:07:51] there's just held divers nope I've been putting in a lot of time in uh Eldon ring actually
[00:08:00] I've backed into there uh I found I had a friend who I want to play co-op with and I found
[00:08:08] they it's called the seamless co-op mod do you agree let me tell you this thing is perfect yeah
[00:08:14] it's exactly what it sounds like where you know we play Eldon ring you beat a boss and then
[00:08:19] the whoever you summoning goes away this doesn't happen it's like you you share progression at the same
[00:08:25] time and you just go through it oh it's absolutely fantastic it's it's so perfect so like
[00:08:32] whatever souls whatever shit that I accumulate while I'm playing with you it's also just like
[00:08:39] carried over to my game like any progression that I made with you yeah what that's amazing
[00:08:45] we started new characters and we've just been blasting through the game it's been
[00:08:50] great and then when we said we are uh I told him like listen we're gonna do this
[00:08:56] and we're gonna play archetypes that we don't normally play at all and so my friend is doing
[00:09:04] intelligence an intelligence strength build I think and I'm doing a dexterity faith build
[00:09:13] and it's it's been so fun I can't I can't speak more highly enough because it's like it's already
[00:09:18] a fantastic game and when you add seamless co-op to it it's like next level it's it's fantastic
[00:09:28] and what they do to keep it from being too easy whereas every time you die you get a debuff
[00:09:37] but you can reset you can reset that debuff I resting at a grace but sometimes you don't want to
[00:09:42] reset the world because you've made progress so you push forward with the debuff it's really they
[00:09:48] thought of everything is super interesting it's fantastic yeah I gotta be honest like after you
[00:09:53] were kind of like telling me about this this thing um like I own Elden Ring on ps5 but after
[00:10:02] you're here to put this like man I might might have to I have to rebind on pc because I've actually been
[00:10:10] uh wanting to do a guts build because I've been reading a whole bunch of berserk and um
[00:10:20] I uh I quickly became a berserk fanboy like very quickly like I'm all it it's like I'm ready to get tattooed
[00:10:29] yeah yeah yeah and like just seeing the um like the influence that this fucking manga had on like god damn
[00:10:41] everything especially souls I mean like there's even like you could fully do a guts build in Elden Ring
[00:10:49] like I mean there's even armor that is made to look exactly like the berserk armor um you can
[00:10:56] essentially use like the uh the great sword with like a repeating crossbow because he has like the
[00:11:02] crossbow on his built in it was like arm or whatever um yeah you could you could fully make guts
[00:11:09] and like people on reddit have made like full like I guess like guides had a best make a guts build
[00:11:16] I really want to do it hmm so I was doing that's just just a strength build yeah there was some other
[00:11:22] stuff to it though like because good is that great sword and I think that's a colossal weapon so
[00:11:27] that's a good amount of strength yeah it was like yeah I can't remember exactly I'd have to
[00:11:33] like kind of revisit that uh I saved the uh the post I'll send it to you later and just show you
[00:11:38] what it looks like but yeah people they kind of thought of everything like I remember like looking
[00:11:42] at the building being like oh that's interesting that they did is that his full name or is he like
[00:11:46] John guts that was just guts it's like Madonna just guts yeah I've never at least up into this point
[00:11:56] I've never heard him called by any other name that just guts I mean Pock who's his little
[00:12:02] his little uh elf companion it sometimes he calls them like the iron tower guts or like
[00:12:10] just like refers to him in like some epic name but yeah it's just guts I don't know if I care for that
[00:12:17] you know at first I was like really this is name just guts I don't know yeah it's guts and then
[00:12:24] like the main the other main dude is Griffith a couple of a couple of G's kind of like us
[00:12:32] couple of exactly like us that's right this Griffith I have a full name
[00:12:39] maybe I don't know I like I don't think they've yeah it's like guts Griffith caska like I don't know
[00:12:47] if I know what her last name is if she has one and there's like Judah Judah whatever his name
[00:12:55] was he also didn't have a yeah there's just like single names never heard of anybody's last name
[00:13:02] but yeah that's that's one of the things I've been consuming is a whole lot of berserk and
[00:13:06] that's been making me want to play Eldon ring so it's kind of ironic that you they mentioned
[00:13:12] Eldon ring because oh you get a good deal I'll roll up a new character in the lands between you
[00:13:17] anytime hell yeah also besides that when I'm not you know do it stuff with the podcast or
[00:13:27] reading berserk lately I've just been fully playing Final Fantasy 7 rebirth and I have some
[00:13:38] reservations like I don't love every single thing about it but let me tell you man
[00:13:46] I do love that game it's not perfect but I love it it looks like a lot of fun
[00:13:52] I've got grapes with it none of them none of them gameplay and honestly for one of
[00:13:58] the seed none of them are actually even story it's just uh it's just uh we can't we can't
[00:14:05] want to get into this right now we don't think it's right now we can't get into it now yeah yeah
[00:14:10] well we'll we'll say at some point when I finish this game uh we'll have a full blown episode
[00:14:17] dedicated to uh talking about this because I'm sure I I'm definitely gonna want to talk about it
[00:14:23] once I finish it I'm sure Beth has some things to say about it so yeah we won't we won't get into that
[00:14:29] today um but what we will get into today uh which is actually a good segue who's because you know
[00:14:37] and playing a lot of Final Fantasy 7 rebirth which is a remake of the 1997 classic Final Fantasy 7
[00:14:44] which I did play first um it's strange to me that I mean I guess it's not strange but
[00:14:50] it's crazy to think that like some people will have not played the original at all
[00:14:56] and not even really know anything about it oh there's a lot of people like that there's a whole
[00:15:00] bunch of people in it and they're just playing this and they're like this is fucking crazy it's like
[00:15:05] yeah it always was crazy like it was it was amazing back in the day but I guarantee you there is a
[00:15:13] not insignificant population of people who think Final Fantasy 7 is just midgar
[00:15:20] yeah probably like 100 percent I promise you there is a good percentage of people who believe that
[00:15:27] yeah I can yeah yeah yeah I can see that honestly um but yeah no that like to me Final Fantasy 7
[00:15:36] rebirth kind of sparked this idea of like you know um like this is how you remake games like
[00:15:46] to me not like most of the majority of the remakes that have come out are actually pretty good
[00:15:51] um yeah but like some of them are pretty good yeah but there's some that just like stand far
[00:15:59] above some of the other ones and that's kind of what I want to do today is we're gonna kind
[00:16:04] of just go over the ones that kind of stand out you know they're like the best example of like
[00:16:10] what makes that perfect remake or reboot of a it could be a reboot of a game franchise as well
[00:16:16] um but yeah so we each kind of picked three ish um so Greg why don't you go first because I don't
[00:16:27] I don't actually know what you've picked so I'm curious to know what your first pick is
[00:16:32] I were going back and forth you wanted to do all three oh let's go back and forth okay so
[00:16:38] the first remake reboot I'm gonna say reboot no it's it's both that I'm choosing is
[00:16:45] it was an Xbox 360 ps3 era game of uh an old classic an old Nintendo favorite
[00:16:54] do you know what this game is Jerry could you have any guests can you hazard a guess
[00:16:59] uh conquer live and reloaded incorrect that's a pretty good guess though um more I said classic
[00:17:09] that also was Xbox the original Xbox I think yeah that was a original Xbox that was
[00:17:14] even 360 I think was it I can't remember first one I am choosing Jerry to talk about is
[00:17:21] double dragon neon which is I forgot about that game you know I've never really played that no it is
[00:17:32] so fun and hilarious and charming as hell and a perfect love letter to the side scroller beat them up
[00:17:42] it's just it's almost oh no I was and it's almost a pretty game that's hyperbully it's a very good game
[00:17:49] yeah um do they do they like retain like that because like I remember the with the original double dragon
[00:17:55] like it was punchy feeling like no pun intended but like it was very punchy like it had to
[00:18:00] has certain like like punch to it um do they like retain that in neon I believe so I don't exactly
[00:18:07] recall but I believe so because like you ever play like a beat him up that's like it it just like
[00:18:13] it looks good but like it feels a little too like light floaty yeah I guess so
[00:18:21] yes that's the shit I don't want don't you worry about this game
[00:18:28] because it's uh it it's just it's it knows what it wants to do and it doesn't perfectly I would say
[00:18:35] is that available on steam sure is 1099 is it really yeah huh wonder uh dragon
[00:18:52] wonder if it's been
[00:18:55] good sale yeah it's been like
[00:18:58] two dollars it has been two dollars in 52 cents uh about three years ago
[00:19:10] on if it was those uh sub five dollars again you can buy me a copy hell yeah that uh
[00:19:18] I don't know what works really good it's so fun and like
[00:19:21] if like if someone is low on health like say like we're playing in your low on health
[00:19:26] I can give you a high five to split our health no way yeah oh man oh it's on
[00:19:34] it's on switch as well I think it's on everything yeah it's on switch ps3 xbox 360 and pc
[00:19:43] I don't think it made it over to ps4 no no no it's it's it's quite old
[00:19:49] I guess it's I guess it's due time for a re remake of
[00:19:59] exactly cherry give me the first remake on your list
[00:20:04] absolutely um so if you've been listening to this podcast uh you will know that I am a
[00:20:13] mana fanboy and to my surprise uh when they announced that they're finally going to translate
[00:20:22] synchandensetsu 3 which was secret of would be secret of mana 2 to us um and they
[00:20:29] retitled at trials of mana that was crazy enough that they were bringing that over um in like the
[00:20:34] mana collection in in the same like Nintendo Direct they just added nowhere they're like oh by the
[00:20:41] way uh that we're also remaking this from the ground up like a full blown remake I'd never
[00:20:49] an a million years thought that I would get it because it is one of my all time favorite games
[00:20:54] I love trials of mana the original unsupertive tend to um and I was actually very surprised when
[00:21:04] I first got my hands on trials of mana because it's like very it's very faithful it's not
[00:21:10] doesn't have like a lot of fluff for anything like it's just to the point kind of like
[00:21:16] brings back the the classic 16-bit era feel of action RPGs but it doesn't feel dated
[00:21:25] and I don't know like the the feel of the game too like they're running around it's it's kind of
[00:21:33] crazy to like know the areas just by having played a 2d top down game oh absolutely
[00:21:43] because like you see these open areas now in 3d and you're and I'm like I remember this place like
[00:21:48] I do remember this place but like I remember it from a different perspective and it's
[00:21:52] it's really really awesome to see it in a different perspective like that and like just the vision
[00:21:58] that they had behind this was very very like well executed very faithful the uh revitalized
[00:22:09] OST is fantastic because that game had some some of the best music on the super tend to know as far
[00:22:14] as I'm concerned and it just sounds even better on this the only caveat that I have with this game
[00:22:21] there's only one if you do play this game please please god this is like a this is a public service
[00:22:30] now for this game do not play this game with English voice acting because it is
[00:22:41] fucking atrocious it is probably among some of the worst I've heard and it's not even that it's
[00:22:48] like cheesy or like bad like poorly acted it's just blah because it's just boring there's no
[00:22:58] I don't know it just sucks so if you click on that Japanese and you just let it go that way
[00:23:06] oh ah chef's kiss perfect there's a motion behind the actors like
[00:23:13] you can actually tell when they're they're feeling something like it's it's good I can't I don't
[00:23:18] know what they're saying but I mean the game is all in English anyways so who cares hmm
[00:23:24] so yeah that's how I uh I have not finished the game yet um like I don't know a few hours into it
[00:23:31] but yeah it's uh it's real good and I think the only other miss for that one for me was the fact
[00:23:38] that they did not make it a co-op game which is strange to me because it was always a co-op game
[00:23:45] interesting decision yeah it was an interesting decision but no it's really good
[00:23:53] I definitely encourage anybody who's into action RPGs to absolutely check out trials of Ghana
[00:24:00] especially with um the new one coming out visions of mana which is soon okay I think that's
[00:24:05] the summer and that game looks incredible it's gonna be good it's gonna be good
[00:24:12] hmm um um Greg um what else you got what else I got one another one I'll give you another roll
[00:24:20] up them sleeves and let me see what's up them I'll give you another uh another remake that uh
[00:24:25] I was very fond of uh it was what year do these come out just one second here
[00:24:32] okay 2013 okay Xbox 360 ps3 PC
[00:24:40] talking of course about uh I say of course like it's a 360 I'm 100,000 games came out of 360
[00:24:48] um the 2013 reboot of Tomb Raider oh shit yeah which was so so good
[00:25:01] because like uncharted took a lot of the good things from Tomb Raider and Tomb Raider was like
[00:25:06] you know what back at your slick and they took all the great things from uncharted and put Laura in
[00:25:13] there oh it was so good yeah they made Laura's character so good too like well yeah they gave her
[00:25:22] more of a character another she didn't have a character she actually did have a character the original
[00:25:25] Lara Croft it developed over time but they showed the development of of Lara from like
[00:25:33] rich girl to adventuring Tomb Raider if you will yep um the gameplay and that was
[00:25:44] was fantastic too and like it was cool to see it kind of go gritty as well exactly and like honestly
[00:25:50] like finding all like literally finding tombs like as you traveled around was so smart to do
[00:25:59] like they could have just had it like unlike a main path story you know anything about
[00:26:03] but having like tombs like every time you saw a tomb like yeah I'm gonna rate this tomb and you got
[00:26:07] in there just got oh it was so good yeah I agree I actually kind of forgot about that game oh I think
[00:26:15] I played it many times I might be in the minority people who enjoy the first one over the second one
[00:26:23] the second one is really good too though the second one is really good it's I don't know
[00:26:29] and I just didn't just didn't grab me as much I would say um yeah the first one is fantastic
[00:26:35] the first one is fantastic it's uh it's it's it's I mean there's still monsters but it's a little
[00:26:41] bit more of a grounded story um the second one uh you famously forgot or didn't realize that
[00:26:51] uh one of the characters was uh Jesus Christ they basically say yeah you didn't catch that but yeah
[00:27:00] that was uh that's probably only like I don't know maybe like 10 episodes ago that we talked about
[00:27:05] this yeah and yeah you guys were like talking about and I was like wait where was Jesus in this
[00:27:11] game I don't remember Jesus being in this game what are you talking about you guys you guys are
[00:27:15] like a gas lady no that time nope there was no gas not that time being lit nope uh one of the
[00:27:23] characters is in fact Jesus or the prophet as they call it or something like that he's 100% Jesus
[00:27:29] Jesus that's that's so crazy to me oh god um it's a bold choice that I respect
[00:27:39] mm-hmm that third one wasn't very good I mean it was fine but it was fine it didn't
[00:27:47] didn't blow my mind or anything it didn't it was just I would say it's the weakest of the three
[00:27:51] but I wouldn't say it's a bad game it's just the weakest of the three yeah yeah it's tried to have
[00:27:57] like continue I tried they tried to have like a continuing story with the second one
[00:28:01] whereas I feel like each game should have been its own adventure like one and done it you know
[00:28:07] yeah speaking of which I kind of do want to check out that um that recent actual remake quote-unquote
[00:28:16] of the original isn't it the trilogy the Tomb Raider trilogy remake yes I think that
[00:28:23] that just came out yeah not long ago like recently like a lot of Smith maybe yeah um looks pretty good
[00:28:31] I mean I have thrown on recently the oh like the OG Tomb Raider because I have never played it
[00:28:41] I remember playing Tomb Raider 2 that like my friends house on his PC and even then like we didn't
[00:28:48] really play it we just fucked around in the mansion and well to everyone does never just fucked
[00:28:53] around the man and then um yeah like I threw on like once I had the mister all built and stuff
[00:29:01] and when I was capturing some footage for for Ressha rehab um I was talking to Aaron about this I was
[00:29:07] like why didn't anybody tell me that Tomb Raider one was so fucking good like escape kicks ass
[00:29:15] I was playing it and I think I there was some part of me for some reason that was thinking like
[00:29:20] the controls were really weird back when I was a kid so I was like I'm not playing this
[00:29:26] the controls are weird they are it's like it's like tank controls but like
[00:29:30] not I don't know it's hard to explain well basically like Laura like
[00:29:37] can run she can stand in place and turn
[00:29:42] I think she could run in turn but like strapping is a hard thing to do like if we're
[00:29:45] cut other keys it's it comes from a time when there was only a D pad and no analog sticks so like
[00:29:52] your movement options were limited you know yeah yeah no it's it's good kind of want to check out
[00:29:59] that uh that new remake let you uh I'm glad you reminded me of that it's a good idea good on your
[00:30:05] good on your for the Tomb Raider but of course um my next one again to nobody's surprise if
[00:30:16] if you know me by now on this show um super Mario RPG remake that uh that kind of got a surprise
[00:30:25] announcement Greg you uh you scared the shit out of me when I was at work one day because I thought
[00:30:32] man these are some really good like AI art or something of some Mario game like you were
[00:30:37] you were watching like some direct you're just setting me like these screenshots of this Mario RPG
[00:30:44] remake and I'm like the fuck is what it's what's going what's happening what is this what's going on
[00:30:49] and I was having like I had to like go take my break early because I was like I got to get
[00:30:54] to the bottom of this right now because I I don't know what's happened sure enough super Mario RPG remake
[00:31:05] and the dreams came true they did however I will say this it is amazing how faithful
[00:31:19] the game is hmm I guess incredible it's it's it's it's amazingly faithful but
[00:31:28] for people that grew up playing Super Mario RPG it might be a little too faithful
[00:31:40] like they don't really add anything to it like there's nothing there's literally it is just
[00:31:46] that game again but with slight variations to the battle system which are good like the the battle
[00:31:55] system gets like kind of an upgrade like you almost get like summons and like there's like almost
[00:32:00] like cutscene fucking like double team strikes and stuff like there's some really really cool things
[00:32:09] added to the battle system but like overall as far as like the the maps and the areas and the
[00:32:16] content it is damn near identical but I don't know if that's a bad thing well I think you would
[00:32:24] if you would find a large percentage of people are not large but certainly vocal percentage of
[00:32:29] people would be upset if they change anything at all yeah probably I mean it would have been
[00:32:39] cool to have like a few new like new areas like optional areas or something but to my knowledge
[00:32:48] and I have not beat the game but to my knowledge there is there is no like new optional areas
[00:32:55] but again it's fine like the game is really good and the cool thing about Super Mario RPG is that
[00:33:02] like it's very much like a baby's first RPG like you can kind of turn your brain off like there's
[00:33:08] not you don't have to grind in Super Mario RPG you're just kind of like going it's it's interesting
[00:33:16] though because like now as in it as an adult playing this game I'm now realizing like just
[00:33:24] how damn good they translated Mario to an RPG because you're literally going like from level to
[00:33:31] level on a world map like because like some people might think it's too linear but like that's I mean
[00:33:41] it captures the feel of Mario perfectly yeah and it even adds like new characters to the mix
[00:33:49] like Malo and Gino like you know new characters like booster that actually feel like they fit
[00:33:57] in the Mario universe but those are all like those were all creations of square which is
[00:34:04] it's crazy but yeah again another amazing OST like some of the music in Mario RPG is probably
[00:34:14] some of the best video game music I've ever heard and all kinds of redone tracks too in the remake
[00:34:21] yeah you can actually switch it you can have the original music or you can have the remake
[00:34:27] music which I mean I love the original music but the remake music is just so good because
[00:34:32] like orchestrated and just like has a nice new coat of paint I guess on it it's really really good
[00:34:41] yeah yeah super Mario RPG definitely check that out it's a it's a very it's quick so it's a quick
[00:34:50] RPG so I'm gonna take you like 15 20 hours getting it out it's a fast fast for an RPG that's for
[00:34:58] damn sure yes it is Greg what you what you got up them sleeves you had you had him you had him
[00:35:08] rolled up and not all the way up he wanted to I'll raise this sleeve up so no worries just pop that
[00:35:14] shirt off real quick all right relax so this next one kind of
[00:35:28] reinvigorated this franchise it was it brought a franchise that I would say had a cult following
[00:35:34] to just a following and a lot of general popularity which continues to grow and expand to this day
[00:35:44] and the remake in question is it's because of kawami oh remake of kusa one for the ps4
[00:35:58] I believe it was just ps4 and pc came later I think yeah I think that's how yeah yeah
[00:36:05] Greg that's um that's a that's a five star game that is a five star game right there and it's
[00:36:13] it spawned yeah kusa zero which might be like my favorite in the series or definitely up there
[00:36:23] yeah that's uh that's a that's probably like a top 10 game for me yeah and then obviously kawami
[00:36:30] two came after that and then it led to like the remasters of three through five six six
[00:36:44] three to five yeah three to five got remastered yeah yeah six was like its own thing on dragon engine
[00:36:49] yeah so three to five got remastered too I am I would probably die on the hill of making the statement
[00:36:58] I don't think we would have stuff like infinite wealth or the transition into like a dragon if it
[00:37:04] weren't for kawami oh we definitely wouldn't because kawami made that series explode oh it got
[00:37:12] it got big I you can argue that zero made this series explode but there's no zero without kawami
[00:37:18] that's true yeah but I also feel like those three games zero kawami and kawami too like
[00:37:27] man like those are insanely well done remakes while zero is not a remake so much but kawami one
[00:37:36] kawami two jesus dude like those were already really good like as far as storytelling goes for ps2
[00:37:47] games holy sweet jesus oh they're deep stories yeah and like I didn't even think something like
[00:37:55] that existed on the ps2 even though like I mean I don't know a lot about metal gear
[00:38:05] but like I know that it has like a pretty you know oh we gotta worry we gotta get you playing
[00:38:13] some more metal gear I know I know I do have to play you know I mean well that speaking about
[00:38:21] remakes we are getting a remake for medical medical delta which people say is the best metal gear
[00:38:30] three yeah metal gear so well everyone has different answer but a lot of people really think that
[00:38:36] it's three might be the best one okay I know I know I remember back when two came out and people
[00:38:44] were kind of racking on it and being like this is not a good melt here here's the thing
[00:38:51] the people who were mad at two were mad that they didn't play they felt like they got a bait and
[00:38:56] switch because I know you're solid too you play the first like a couple hours of the game as
[00:39:05] as solid snake and then you play the next 20 hours as a completely different character which is
[00:39:12] the opposite of solid snake as he's basically a young almost whiny boy oh I know who it yeah we won't
[00:39:22] spoil it but the game is old it's right and you play as right and nobody likes like right initially
[00:39:30] people now do like right but it metagrecelid two is one of those games where
[00:39:36] if you go back to it it's really good and if you had played metagrecelid two without playing
[00:39:41] the first one like I did it was my first melt your game so you don't have any attachment yeah so you
[00:39:46] don't have any attachment to it it's a damn good game okay well I got that the ps2 I'll fire it up
[00:39:56] down set up in my my entire setup here and I I do have myself some metal gear two yeah you should
[00:40:05] you should do one two three I should should I wait for the remake of of three though no it'll probably
[00:40:14] that'll be out I would imagine right by the time I get to it true but I mean you never know even
[00:40:21] though David haters says it's good Delta because he's played it the first part I would say I would
[00:40:29] probably recommend doing one two three I want to talk about remakes you can play twins snakes that's
[00:40:39] the game cute one on the game cube instead of me and I'm sorry I don't know if I can fully
[00:40:44] endorse that because that game is ridiculous and like people flip around it makes jet sounds like it's
[00:40:51] what really it's it's really over the top and it gets it's a they go a step too far but the
[00:40:58] the game is a bit modernized but I think the original ps1 is the best way to go for the first one I think
[00:41:04] so yeah okay okay okay yeah I think so yeah yakuza those those Kwame games yeah man
[00:41:18] there was a part of me that was thinking that you were gonna pick either Kwame or Kwame
[00:41:23] or something because those are they are fantastic games they do be fantastic Jerry yes I highly
[00:41:32] encourage anybody who's into like see the cool thing about yakuza games are like they're kind of
[00:41:37] like a mish mash of like everything and like they're like a character action game like a beat him up
[00:41:43] but like also it has like you know like RPG elements to it it's got you know you can explore like
[00:41:54] really a really tightly knit like city which is crazy because like it's almost always based in the
[00:42:01] same city and it's based in all like real parts of like Tokyo and stuff like that so like if you are
[00:42:08] in the places that it's based off of you can find your way around yeah like what's the
[00:42:13] called soten boring or whatever it's called so boring yeah yeah front of the podcast Dalo he
[00:42:21] actually went to that real place and like you know that one seafood restaurant with the big crab
[00:42:26] on the front of it yeah that's real he was like look it's you could see he like took a I think he
[00:42:31] like took a picture of like the the bridge that goes across and like it was identical it's crazy
[00:42:37] it's crazy how well they capture those areas in like a one-to-one setting and what's really interesting
[00:42:48] about those the others games is that you you start to get familiarized with those cities so much
[00:42:52] so that like if someone's like oh I gotta get to like this district I'm like why don't
[00:42:57] where that is I don't even need to bring up my map I know what a street a month like it's crazy how
[00:43:03] like familiar you become with those games and like someone online was saying that they were walking
[00:43:09] around somewhere in Japan and they didn't even realize that they knew exactly where they were going
[00:43:16] and I think someone like asked them like how they knew where they were going they said oh and then
[00:43:22] they realized it was because it was just from Yakuza they knew exactly where they were going yeah
[00:43:29] in the replica of a commercial that's that's amazing I still I I started six recently
[00:43:41] and do let me tell you let me tell you yeah because a six is really fucking good man
[00:43:48] Terry they're all really fucking good I know like they're all really good and even justice
[00:43:56] and they all will have a story that will devastate you at some point in some way
[00:44:03] yeah yeah already I'm like oh my god man like it didn't take any time to pop off
[00:44:09] in Yakuza 6 and yeah it's just I don't know it's crazy how good those games just are consistently
[00:44:17] insanely good and now even it wealth is out which I am dying to play that but I told myself I'm not
[00:44:24] gonna play it until I finish Yakuza 6 and then I want to play like a dragon guiding
[00:44:32] because I want to I want to have the closure of Kiryu I need to get that closure you need to
[00:44:40] you know I've played Kawami 1 Kawami 2 and 0 I got I got to see it through I didn't play
[00:44:46] I will admit I did not play 3 4 5 I just kind of did the recaps for those in Yakuza 6 and I know
[00:44:55] that I kind of missed out on seeing the young girl grow up I came up with
[00:45:03] Aruka Ruka yeah you kind of missed out on actually like experiencing for growing up but like
[00:45:13] it's still pretty impactful man like the stuff that's going on at 6 it's pretty wild
[00:45:18] it's not for sure for sure it's a wildred nothing to say about Kawami I think it's I think
[00:45:27] I'm pretty sure it's Kawami not Kawami 2 Kawami has one of the outside of devastation it has
[00:45:34] one of the most devastating scenes maybe in video games that I've played where it's just like wow
[00:45:44] if that was so goddamn inside in which Kawami 2 Kawami 1 I'm pretty sure
[00:45:53] yeah I just yeah there's so many moments in those games that are just like jaw dropping
[00:45:59] and hit you in the fields I mean Jesus Christ when we recorded the anti-game of the year and we were
[00:46:04] talking about the terrible day for rain award which was the award that you created for the game that
[00:46:12] made us cry the most yeah and like three people on the panel were like Yakuza or like a dragon
[00:46:20] guidance had me weeping like a child and then right in the middle of recording that whole thing
[00:46:26] like minutes after we talked about that you recorded or you sent me a message saying that you
[00:46:31] would just finish the game and you were like Jesus Christ yep yep it's a Kawami 2 update Kawami 2
[00:46:40] with the super super sad stuff the big the big devastation yeah the big sad hmm yeah that's the
[00:46:48] thing man you think you're you're getting into some you know big big tough guy video game where
[00:46:54] you're going around beat people up yeah we'll get ready and you are you definitely are yeah you are
[00:46:59] like it's one of those guys but you're gonna cry oh you're gonna you're gonna tear up there's
[00:47:04] gonna be dust in their eyes hmm let me tell you I don't give a shit how strong you are you cannot
[00:47:11] resist you cannot no well we we you know we had touched for a second just by the brief second on
[00:47:26] on a remake that was not the greatest according to you was that twins snakes the Metal Gear remake
[00:47:35] on GameCube there is however a GameCube remake well I will say just really quick the game play in
[00:47:43] twins snakes is really really freaking good it's the decisions made in the cutscenes which are
[00:47:51] questionable and there's a lot of cutscenes in Metal Gear Solid so all right well
[00:47:59] that may have been a GameCube remake that wasn't up to quite up to snuff with the original
[00:48:09] but there is a remake on GameCube that I would say is one of the best remakes I've ever played
[00:48:19] which remake is that Jerry that is the resident evil remake oh gee resident evil
[00:48:28] this game scared the piss at him it's spooky one like I remember playing the original on a PS1 this was
[00:48:41] it must have been years after like two and three were out because I I had never played the original
[00:48:47] resident evil like when it first came out or even when I first had a PlayStation so it was a while
[00:48:52] but I definitely had like tried it before the resident evil remake came out on GameCube
[00:49:00] and I remember I picked up the resident evil remake and I remember quite fondly
[00:49:08] or maybe I tried to purge it from my memories because it is one of the most frightening things
[00:49:16] I've ever experienced was the crimson heads because they were not in the original this was something
[00:49:22] that they added see I didn't know that they weren't the original I thought they would have they
[00:49:26] I always assume that they weren't the original no so I can only imagine how much more like alarming
[00:49:36] that must have been for people who knew the original and then this happens because it didn't
[00:49:41] happen in the original is like essentially what a crimson head was was at a certain point in the game
[00:49:47] like whenever you would kill a zombie like they don't disappear you know there's not hordes of zombies
[00:49:53] where like the game needs to free up its own like memory so that it has to like eliminate the corpses
[00:50:00] no there's only a few zombies like in an area so when you kill them they just fall where they
[00:50:08] they die and that's where they stay however partway through the game you start to realize and like
[00:50:16] in in one part with no cutscene nothing it just fucking happens suddenly and
[00:50:25] tear it's just terrifying you walk into a room you're just kind of being like oh I have a thing
[00:50:32] probably that I have to go bring to this other side of the mansion now and you're just you know
[00:50:36] trudging away you've been through these halls a million times all of a sudden these
[00:50:43] god damn zombies that you've been just stomping all over their bodies left right in center
[00:50:49] back and forth back and forth all of a sudden they start to pop up again
[00:50:55] and then I'll just pop up and trudge towards you nope they pop up and they fucking sprint
[00:51:03] and I just remember like one of the pops up and starts running toward you as you're just about to
[00:51:12] like open a door and when you see it you're just like what the fuck was that isn't the isn't
[00:51:19] the first appearance of one in like one of those coffins like you from a coffin I remember one
[00:51:23] comes out of a ceiling coffin I don't that's not your first your first experience you have to find
[00:51:29] like three masks and then a coffin drops out from the ceiling in one pops out of there that's
[00:51:34] your first interaction with them but we're called it could be the first interaction but I feel
[00:51:39] like that is not the indication that the or the the zombies that you've already killed are going
[00:51:45] to come back I don't think you know that like you do fight a crimson head before you you see that
[00:51:52] they're all the zombies that you've already killed are going to resurrect like most of them
[00:51:56] are gonna resurrect the only way that you can fully kill them is to put them down again and then
[00:52:03] burn them you get like gasoline or something at some point and even that's like limited but like
[00:52:10] yeah there's some areas where like it's it's pretty problematic that you kind of like you do
[00:52:16] want to get rid of them yeah that it's Resident Evil remake on GameCube is an is a masterclass
[00:52:26] and how a remake should be done because it took everything about the original
[00:52:32] and just made it better like all the scares were better the the visuals at the time
[00:52:40] absolutely blew my mind I remember this was one of those games where I said there's no way
[00:52:47] the graphics can get any better at the time like you know now as an adult knowing full well that
[00:52:57] the graphics will get better than what they are right now but back then you know from like
[00:53:05] and 64 to like I don't know like game like the GameCube era it was just like every every console
[00:53:13] generation was like how could there's no way it's gonna get better it's always it's just it just
[00:53:20] kept getting crazy and crazier but this was one of those times I remember being like these visuals
[00:53:26] are unbelievable and a lot of that was lent to the fact that they they still use the like the fix
[00:53:34] camera which like allowed them to use very very like detailed like high resolution like image for
[00:53:48] the for the backdrops and stuff and like I don't know just like the way they blended the the 3D assets
[00:53:55] with those oh and it was so good and they added some new areas to to the Resident Evil remake they
[00:54:04] there's like a graveyard I think that wasn't in the original I'm pretty sure the Lisa stuff wasn't
[00:54:09] in the original I might be wrong but I don't remember that I don't think that was in the original
[00:54:15] that I can't speak to as much do you know what I'm talking about yeah yeah I know yeah I just
[00:54:21] I don't know if it was in the game yeah of course I didn't like see I didn't realize that you
[00:54:27] actually liked like I thought you only liked like some of the newer like more action heavy Resident Evil
[00:54:33] I didn't I didn't think you actually like some like the OG ones because I didn't think you like
[00:54:38] or played but yeah I played and beat are you are you remake have you played like the original Resident
[00:54:47] Evil 2 or 3 no no no I just said that was the only one I played but that's yeah that's how about
[00:54:53] code Veronica actually don't don't play code Veronica I did it so that you don't have to
[00:55:00] it's something good mm-hmm I'll die on that hill yeah no Resident Evil remake dude is like
[00:55:14] that's that is how you do a remake because it's like it's the remakes that come out that like
[00:55:21] completely negate the original that are like oh like when you when you end up playing a remake and
[00:55:26] you're like well this is now the way to play this game like well be careful Jerry don't go
[00:55:32] saying things like are you remake negates the original you're gonna you're gonna get some
[00:55:36] people's eye are up on that one yeah well wait to hear this I would say that Resident Evil 4 remake
[00:55:42] negates the original oh boy I'm not gonna I'm not gonna tag onto that statement
[00:55:48] is there any remakes that you feel might negate the originals hmm the Kwame I haven't see I haven't
[00:56:01] played the first one so I can't speak to that I'm sure there are people who would I'm sure
[00:56:06] the people who despise the remakes um see I will I wouldn't say trials of mana negates the original
[00:56:17] but I would probably go out and eliminate the Mario RPG remake negates the original because it is
[00:56:24] it is basically a carbon copy of the original just better so I would say like there's no real need
[00:56:34] to ever play the original at this point I won't subscribe for that one either I will I'm you
[00:56:41] that's the you're on your own for that if I were to choose one I would probably say the dead space
[00:56:45] remake because it's so recent comparatively dead space between dead space and dead space remake
[00:56:52] and it's almost exactly the same game with only improvements really so did you you played that
[00:56:59] after right dead space remake no oh but I would I would just say that like dead space remake is
[00:57:07] recent enough compared to the original game that just played dead space remake yeah yeah I can
[00:57:16] I yeah I can definitely get behind that um yeah yeah no it's a it's a it's a it's a it's a strong
[00:57:25] it's a strong statement to say like a remake would negate the original and I wouldn't say it about
[00:57:33] everything I wouldn't say it about like you know I've I've played probably like four or five hours
[00:57:42] of that live alive or live alive what is that it's a it's a pressure to live yeah I played a little bit
[00:57:51] of that actually on the plane recently and that was really good I don't know if that negates the
[00:57:59] original though because the original again it's almost like a thing of like the same like with
[00:58:04] trials of mana like trials of mana is a remake of a 16 bit game even though like Mario RPG is as well
[00:58:11] but I just feel like they've retained a look and feel of the Mario RPG so
[00:58:16] closely that it's like it just resembles the the same content but like trials of mana original
[00:58:25] to remake is like two completely different games same thing with uh like Final Fantasy 7 Final
[00:58:32] Fantasy 7 remake even though technically like you know they're not they're not really the same game
[00:58:41] right um yeah that like that's another thing too like all these remakes I feel like they've we've
[00:58:50] only gotten more and more every year now and like we got which ones are coming out this we got that
[00:59:00] well that metal gear ones coming out this year there's something else I feel like there was
[00:59:06] another remake that was coming out this year oh no that came out last year but there was that
[00:59:14] that star ocean one too which is apparently also very very good hmm um
[00:59:29] oh so yeah there's there has been a few that have been announced so as of recently Mario versus
[00:59:39] Donkey Kong just came out not that long ago I think in February maybe that's a remake uh
[00:59:50] we got that the Tomb Raider 1-3 remaster pretty soon I think or it actually might already be out
[00:59:59] is that brothers a tale of two sons remake which is an interesting one to me I mean that's a good game
[01:00:09] but now it's like kawa I think like because before you step to use like two like your two analogues
[01:00:15] yeah exactly there's that lolly pop chainsaw repop oh I heard about that yeah so there's uh
[01:00:24] and there's a there's a few things oh and there's lolly pop chainsaw game uh if you play with
[01:00:30] Japanese language you can choose which voice actor you would prefer for the main character
[01:00:36] really yeah what like wait what do you mean there's two voice actors for the main character I don't
[01:00:43] know if there was other media for lolly pop chainsaw that has a different voice actor but
[01:00:48] I was reading that you could choose which voice actor you wanted within the Japanese
[01:00:54] VO for the main character there's also uh Luigi's mansion 2 HD which is a remake of the 3DS one
[01:01:07] which I have I've played a little bit of that but I haven't played a lot and I do really like
[01:01:11] Luigi's mansion there's uh I'm just like looking down through a list and I don't remember hearing about
[01:01:21] this but apparently there's a clock tower remake what coming out when this year interesting studio
[01:01:29] will be releasing an enhanced version that celebrates the super fabicom classic clock tower
[01:01:35] will come with new cutscenes and art gallery and save states all while keeping the original look
[01:01:41] and feel of the game intact interesting that is cool that game is scary man like for a fucking point
[01:01:49] and click super Nintendo game that that game fucks dude that's pretty fucking scary um
[01:01:58] um oh and a f*** how how am I forgetting this of course silent hill 2 remake that people are pretty
[01:02:08] I don't know a little bit iffy on i bet it'll be fine you think so I think it'll be good in fact
[01:02:18] I really do hope so like and the thing is to like blooper team
[01:02:22] they the problem with them they were kind of hit or miss like I really like the layers of fear games
[01:02:29] but like that last one that they put out the medium I I couldn't get into that man but then at the same
[01:02:37] time they did that um observer game that was crazy it was a cool game so I really I don't know
[01:02:45] I really hope that they they pull this off because essentially this is the first game that blooper
[01:02:51] has done that actually has combat so fingers crossed there's a lot of people that are
[01:03:00] really itching for this one and I as a silent hill fan I truly hope that they
[01:03:06] they're handling this with care it's been weird though because like it's almost like
[01:03:14] people will like call blooper out about like them not like marketing the game
[01:03:19] and they just revert it back to Konami and they're just like we don't have any control over this
[01:03:24] like we we have no control over what you guys actually get to see
[01:03:30] it's true it's good for them to tell them like wait we don't cut the trailers so
[01:03:35] yeah uh there's also that until dawn remake which I don't know if that needed to get remade
[01:03:43] no no it's kind of like the last of us two getting a remake like
[01:03:52] it's it's those are uh most of the last of uh last of us but um
[01:03:59] uh you know there's a cash grabs clear it clear as day yeah I'm a I'm a last was fan but yeah those
[01:04:05] are definitely that's uh that's a fucking cash grab if I've never seen one mm-hmm
[01:04:12] that's yeah um dragon quest 3 HD 2D remake I forgot about that that's also coming out
[01:04:20] I do like those HD 2D games like I think we get the picture there's a lot coming out this year
[01:04:26] yeah for uh for remakes yeah there's a bunch there's always there's always something
[01:04:31] mm-hmm I think that uh that about sums up our current list of um of remakes I'm sure once more
[01:04:41] of the ones that come out this year come out and of course when when I finish playing
[01:04:46] Final Fantasy 7 rebirth we'll have a full full panel discussion on that one I'm sure there's
[01:04:54] there's lots to be said Greg you can finally air your grievances with the um
[01:05:02] with how people interact with each other and uh yeah lots lots more to come with uh with remakes so
[01:05:14] but in the meantime if you want some more have a look back through our uh our our old catalog here
[01:05:20] about you know see if see if any of the more recent topics catch your eye or go go way way way
[01:05:27] back listen to some of those original ones like the uh the Final Fantasy 14 episode that we did
[01:05:33] that's that's like the uh it's the cream of the crap right there baby Final Fantasy 14
[01:05:39] I should play Final Fantasy 14 against someday uh yeah you actually you should Jerry
[01:05:43] uh but we don't have time I mean we got time but it's not time it's not time
[01:05:55] yeah well uh and also if you're uh if you're clamoring for some some retro talk uh Aaron
[01:06:03] of super pod saga and I have joined forces to make our new show retro rehab
