[00:00:00] They're on me! I'm getting careless!

[00:00:02] Hey Einstein, I'm on your side!

[00:00:04] What the heck?

[00:00:06] Good luck!

[00:00:07] Welcome to Remember 64 for the 50th official episode of the podcast.

[00:00:12] And of course that means this week we have to...

[00:00:15] Kill a barrel roll!

[00:00:30] Welcome to the show everyone, whether this is your first episode or you have been with us for 50 along the way.

[00:00:50] My name is David Pietrangelo and sorry boomer I will not be doing a barrel roll.

[00:00:56] This time Jiggy Lookback is joining me. Sir, hello?

[00:01:00] Hi.

[00:01:02] Hi.

[00:01:04] Welcome to this semi celebratory episode of...

[00:01:09] 50 episodes, my gosh!

[00:01:12] What the heck have we done? I'm sorry everybody, I'm sorry deeply.

[00:01:17] Of course Jiggy's with me but of course we had to bring Luigi's apartment back once again.

[00:01:24] Once again, sir how's it going man? Welcome back to the show.

[00:01:28] Those who cross Andros will die!

[00:01:32] Hi sir, how are you?

[00:01:36] Hey, how's it going? Good, good, good, good.

[00:01:39] My brain totally blanks completely with Star Fox 64 quotes even though I could probably pull a billion out.

[00:01:45] I just couldn't think of anything.

[00:01:47] It's almost like there's too many. That's the issue. It's a game of one-liners.

[00:01:53] Uncle Andros!

[00:01:55] You could say, you've gotten careless.

[00:01:58] Oh yeah.

[00:02:01] Alright well the three of us are here on the show but of course because this is a celebratory type of episode,

[00:02:08] because this is a massive game to be talking about of Star Fox 64,

[00:02:12] we have to have a full four person team for this. We are Star Fox.

[00:02:17] Chris from Monavo Consoles is here. Chris welcome to the show for the first time.

[00:02:22] Thank you and Dave, I'm sorry but can't let you brew that Starbucks or Star Fox.

[00:02:29] Something about coffee and a dog.

[00:02:34] Dude, 50 episodes is insane. Congratulations.

[00:02:39] Thank you.

[00:02:41] I know it's difficult.

[00:02:43] I've seen a ton of podcasts that had a lot of potential to fizzle out after three episodes

[00:02:49] and your quality and the way that you sound and the product that you put out, dude, it's incredible for 50.

[00:02:55] It's like you've been doing it forever.

[00:02:57] Oh I've been doing it for probably too long if you ask some people out there but hey here I am and here we are.

[00:03:04] I think the number of podcasts that I've made that have fizzled out in around three episodes prepares you to make quality entertainment.

[00:03:15] It's all about preparation isn't it?

[00:03:17] Yeah, 100%.

[00:03:19] Okay so this is like I said we're at 50. We're at sort of a celebratory episode here I guess.

[00:03:27] You know you hit those even numbers and you're like oh that's awesome.

[00:03:31] I had to pick a larger game, a more standout title.

[00:03:36] I've done a few in the past when the show first started but this was one that I wanted to hang onto for a while because I think across the board it's pretty beloved.

[00:03:46] You know I don't think you can really find someone that says like this game is terrible. Maybe it's not your thing, that's totally fine.

[00:03:53] Let me throw this out here.

[00:03:56] So in preparation for this just because I was in the Star Fox mood I made a tweet and I was just like Star Fox 64 is one of those games that I just I can't fault it.

[00:04:05] It's like perfect. I was like what do you think?

[00:04:08] And there were hundreds of replies of people either telling me that it's one of their favorite games and they agree that it's perfect or just naming off a list of other perfect games but no one was like Star Fox 64.

[00:04:21] Like everyone generally really likes this game.

[00:04:26] It's just I don't know.

[00:04:30] Perfect is hard to attribute to any kind of game, movie, TV show, whatever.

[00:04:35] I don't want to say anything's perfect but it's like there's just something about the feeling when you play this game and I think that's what I always recaptured every time I've turned this game on again.

[00:04:45] And it happened once again over the last couple weeks since I played I don't know 10 runs of this or something.

[00:04:53] I don't know why it's so easy to do.

[00:04:56] It takes an hour at the most.

[00:04:58] You know like it's all it's so it's just flat out fun before we dive too far into the game itself.

[00:05:07] Chris because you haven't been on the show before this is sort of our breaks.

[00:05:11] Yeah.

[00:05:15] Please, you clearly have them all ready to go whenever there's an opportunity to use them please use them because I will forget.

[00:05:23] Chris let's let's chat a little bit about your experience with the 64 and with Star Fox.

[00:05:28] Is this a console you grew up with is it something came to later?

[00:05:31] Is it sort of a favorite middle of the ground type of thing?

[00:05:35] What's your experience with the with the console?

[00:05:38] So that the 64 was the first console that I had that was mine.

[00:05:44] I did have a Game Boy and you know neighbors cousins everybody had video game consoles except for me.

[00:05:50] And when I finally got one my parents got me one it was a 64 had Mario 64 and tour rock.

[00:05:56] I couldn't play tour rock because I was like eight years old and my parents would not let me touch it that.

[00:06:01] Oh no don't worry it wasn't that bad to the parents.

[00:06:06] It's really not that bad.

[00:06:07] It's just dinosaurs.

[00:06:09] Yeah, but and the thing is that they had like the game complete in box in the trunk of my mom's car and it haunted me.

[00:06:18] It was there for months until they decided to get rid of it.

[00:06:22] No, but Star Fox.

[00:06:26] The first time that I played it was at a neighbor's house.

[00:06:28] He told me all about the rumble pack how the game looks how it was and I just couldn't believe it.

[00:06:35] And went over to his house played the first stage over and over again because we kept dying and I was just.

[00:06:42] Masmerized I was well we also died a lot because my first language is Spanish it's not English so we didn't know what to do.

[00:06:52] So when they told told us to hit the brakes we had no idea what the hell to do.

[00:06:59] So Rob ever find your location.

[00:07:04] And she knew.

[00:07:10] We noticed that the button would start like flashing like crazy and we looked at the controller trying to figure out what button we have.

[00:07:17] And then every time after that it was like automatic reflex we see like a hint of yellow just popping up at the top of the screen press the button.

[00:07:24] Yeah, just yeah.

[00:07:27] But you know I told my parents they I rented it a bunch of times from a local rental store and it was usually we would get pizza hut we would get a cheese pan pizza.

[00:07:39] Star Fox and maybe some Carvel ice cream.

[00:07:42] And that was my weekend.

[00:07:44] Oh yeah man I cannot tell you again I'll tell you the memories pan pizza and Star Fox brings back.

[00:07:52] If you if you smell pizza do you also smell Star Fox and if you smell Star Fox do you also smell pizza is that kind of like how your brain is wired now usually usually.

[00:08:03] Well usually it's pizza with Star Fox the problem is I'm not a furry so because I'm not a furry I can't associate Star Fox with pizza.

[00:08:11] Fair enough hey I gotta ask you gotta ask you gotta just try to just try to get get your story straight that's all just trying to figure it out.

[00:08:19] Yeah, but it's the greatest game of all time and if you say otherwise you're probably wrong. Oh snap there it is.

[00:08:25] I'm not gonna disagree.

[00:08:27] Yeah, it's a yeah it's it's hard to it's hard to knock this I actually just because it's being pulled up right now in the video I think the sound works I think when I accidentally pressed it a minute ago you guys probably heard it very loud.

[00:08:41] This is a very loud okay I'm going to lower it down.

[00:08:44] This one.

[00:08:48] Love.

[00:08:50] Love.

[00:08:52] Check your G diffuser system.

[00:08:54] Just check your G diffuser.

[00:08:57] Uh huh.

[00:08:58] Falco here. I'm fine. I always check my G diffuser. He's fine.

[00:09:01] He's fine.

[00:09:02] Falco's fine.

[00:09:04] Alright now.

[00:09:06] Also, Peppy is my, Peppy is my the boomer I was referring to always telling you what to do thinking he knows what's best.

[00:09:15] He often does.

[00:09:18] He's stuck in the past man he's stuck in the past I don't know I mean he knows how to kill everything.

[00:09:24] That's true that's true.

[00:09:26] He doesn't do it.

[00:09:27] Look it's weak points right here just murder it Fox like you know.

[00:09:32] Yeah.

[00:09:33] Peppy knows what's up.

[00:09:35] It's sad because like after Star Fox 64 Peppy kind of takes a backseat where he's in the game but he's never a pilot again, you know.

[00:09:44] I mean we don't even see Falco in adventures so.

[00:09:48] I mean.

[00:09:49] Till the end.

[00:09:50] Yeah.

[00:09:51] Till the end.

[00:09:52] Damn it.

[00:09:53] He comes in like that hero you know.

[00:09:56] He comes in after they get paid.

[00:09:58] Okay.

[00:09:59] He smells money and walks in the door.

[00:10:02] But he feeds you a bunch of bombs.

[00:10:04] He's like oh you look like you can you smell.

[00:10:07] Yes I could Falco.

[00:10:08] Thanks for showing up just in the nick of time.

[00:10:11] I recognize you.

[00:10:14] Is Falco just miserable or is he just like yeah this is another day at the office like what's his deal?

[00:10:20] Like I don't.

[00:10:21] Falco is the best pilot of the bunch.

[00:10:23] Yeah.

[00:10:24] Yeah he's probably the best.

[00:10:25] You know him well.

[00:10:26] Yeah.

[00:10:28] And you know the fact that he's the best pilot doesn't mean that he's the best fighter pilot because he does not take anybody down.

[00:10:36] Yeah it's like the difference between a singer and a performer you know.

[00:10:40] That's because you take out his hits.

[00:10:43] You know that was his.

[00:10:45] He says that.

[00:10:46] That was mine.

[00:10:48] And then he gets salty about it and then he just refuses after that.

[00:10:51] Yeah but he like shoots once every like five seconds and he expects those shots to hit.

[00:10:58] Like it's not going to happen dude.

[00:11:00] Yeah come on.

[00:11:01] You can't get salty afterwards.

[00:11:02] It's not that easy right?

[00:11:03] Like it can't be.

[00:11:05] Look at him he's outnumbered.

[00:11:07] He's outnumbered I gotta catch him.

[00:11:08] I gotta catch him.

[00:11:09] I don't know what else I actually do here.

[00:11:10] I don't I don't know.

[00:11:11] I don't know.

[00:11:12] Does he actually do anything though?

[00:11:14] See that was like.

[00:11:15] He's supposed to be better.

[00:11:16] Like can you just.

[00:11:17] So.

[00:11:18] I mean like you can leave him alone if he dies does that mean something bad like is Slippy going to die because he's not around to like run cover on Slippy.

[00:11:26] Right.

[00:11:27] I don't know.

[00:11:28] They're like all.

[00:11:30] They all have like their own roles more or less.

[00:11:32] Peppy's supposed to be the advisor.

[00:11:34] Slippy is the one that tells you you know how much health an enemy has.

[00:11:38] Falco is the one that tells you the secret paths.

[00:11:41] So every time there's a secret path that you can take he'll tell you hey follow me and just like Dave is doing now.

[00:11:48] He's going to tell you how to get to the secret boss.

[00:11:50] Now that you say that.

[00:11:52] Yeah well this one.

[00:11:53] You're right.

[00:11:54] It never clues into me on this one because I already know what it is and I don't know.

[00:11:59] It just looks like something you can do that.

[00:12:01] I think that I think that's one of those ones where back in the day where you would just stumble upon something it's like oh there's.

[00:12:06] There's you know half moon things here let's just let's try and go through because that looks fun and then it takes you somewhere.

[00:12:15] I can't remember which stage it is another one where he says something specifically follow me.

[00:12:20] Yeah.

[00:12:22] As soon as you say that like I'm remembering these times where like he just has these like this panicked lines because he sees something and like oh yeah.

[00:12:32] That's totally what's going on.

[00:12:34] He's the secret guy.

[00:12:35] Yeah.

[00:12:36] But what I think on some of the levels is he just say kill everybody Fox we got to kill them all.

[00:12:41] If he kills to get a medal.

[00:12:42] Kamikaze let's go.

[00:12:44] Genocide.

[00:12:47] I think the other one that Dave's talking to a sonus because I think he's the one to tell you shoot down all the lights and don't let him spot.

[00:12:53] Yeah yeah that's right.

[00:12:55] That's one of them.

[00:12:56] Yeah there's another one too where I think I think it's over the low I don't even know what the name of the levels are I should have it pulled up.

[00:13:03] Describe now it's time to play describe that scribe describe.

[00:13:09] It's in space there are ships and laser ships.

[00:13:14] And I mean that takes out like that narrows it down to like five or six.

[00:13:19] Yeah actually that's kind of true right.

[00:13:20] Yeah.

[00:13:21] Yeah thinking that it's that's not what it is.

[00:13:23] It's the one where where the I think the stuff is broke all the stuff is broken up and then I think it's a stage with the sector X sector X.

[00:13:32] Yeah.

[00:13:34] Where you go up or down or left or right I think at one point.

[00:13:37] Okay yeah that's the one with because that's the second level.

[00:13:41] That's what we're about to be going to right.

[00:13:43] Yeah that sector Y sector X is the one that splits where you either take out like and a whole bunch of artillery or you go and shoot the gates so you can.

[00:13:55] Oh yeah.

[00:13:56] Shoot off into hyperspace.

[00:13:58] Yeah yeah.

[00:13:59] And then Z is the one up top where the missiles come out and the enemies are extra aggressive.

[00:14:05] Yes right right.

[00:14:09] So that's what he does.

[00:14:11] And it's okay but I still think that unless he's like specifically says like follow me or I'll take the left you take the right like unless he says that to me.

[00:14:21] Pepe is the most useful out of the three.

[00:14:25] I like I like seeing a health bar.

[00:14:28] It's reassuring to me to know that I'm actually no he's him guy.

[00:14:31] Slippies the health.

[00:14:32] Yeah.

[00:14:33] Slippies the health bar.

[00:14:34] Sorry that's what I meant.

[00:14:35] That's what I meant.

[00:14:36] I mean he his dad built the submarine.

[00:14:41] You know he's important.

[00:14:44] He's let's get some love for Slippy.

[00:14:46] Yeah plenty of torpedoes.

[00:14:48] Yeah yeah all the torpedoes infinite torpedoes.

[00:14:52] I don't hand cramps.

[00:14:54] I don't hate that level as much as I hate zonus though.

[00:14:58] The cat level that searchlight level.

[00:15:01] So the thing the thing about the searchlight level that it looks poopy.

[00:15:07] It looks poopy right.

[00:15:09] But I just I don't like playing in the submarine personally.

[00:15:14] It's just too you I think if you could use like a more standard weapon than having to shoot the torpedoes every time because they're kind of slow like that because you can lay on the laser but you might as well just you just got to be like spamming torpedoes.

[00:15:29] Often the enemies can't like they're all armored underwater for some reason.

[00:15:34] Like every single one they're like use the torpedoes it's like okay but do I have to like I know you've got some packing them but do I thank you for packing.

[00:15:46] How did it continuously regenerate.

[00:15:50] Yeah, that's a good question.

[00:15:52] Yeah, that's what they that's what they do right isn't that. Yeah, there's no there's no count it's not like the bombs or whatever right so they just has an affinity symbol on it. Yeah, exactly.

[00:16:01] I don't like that level either. One because I think it's no.

[00:16:05] I don't know I think it's pretty. It's pretty hard because it's also very crammed at points, much more than other levels, and it's dark and everything and you know if you play it on the actual 64 and not on on switch it feels even darker, because the one on switch everything is sort of a little bit brighter feels a little bit.

[00:16:27] I don't know what they've done to sort of like glam up the 64 on switch online is, is pretty good. I think things look look pretty good on there most of them. So I very legible yes yeah exactly and I think that helps a little bit but I had a hard time seeing sometimes and that's that's probably part of why I was terrible at that stage and definitely died at least twice.

[00:16:47] So, yeah, they also make you want to light up everything with the torpedoes but the problem is once you shoot a torpedo until it hits something you're out of torpedoes. Yeah, so if you have a bunch of enemies in front of you that you need to take out, you're not going to do anything slip

[00:17:01] he's back there making another one for you.

[00:17:04] Yeah, quickly creating them. Yeah.

[00:17:10] So what do you get okay so going through some of the stages and stuff like that.

[00:17:15] The first one I think is a pretty good stage setter. I think, not only does it sort of give you different things to do as far as like, you know locking on to characters and throwing a couple bombs and maybe going to the, the sort of, you know, actual boss secret

[00:17:32] boss whatever you want to call it. All these different sort of scenarios that you can get in. And I think that just the way the game is presented, whether it's that stage or not like just the way everything starts, it just feels.

[00:17:47] To me it feels pretty epic, even though it's the most simplistic level or one of the most simplistic levels.

[00:17:53] And I just every time I boot up this game, you know you start from the beginning and I have no problem playing that first level over and over and over again. It's a good secret tutorial. Yes, that's like Nintendo is really good about, you know, introducing you to like what you're going to be doing.

[00:18:13] And not you not realizing that running in the sewers and in a link to the past is like you're being taught things. You're like, oh cool there's just like rats and stuff down here. Right. My dead uncle.

[00:18:27] That's true secret tutorial that is everything I said over the course of like five sentences could have just said just been said very concisely like what you did so well done sir.

[00:18:38] If you do the fake boss in level one without, you know, because you know what you're doing. That is an all range mode boss so you get to see that too. Yeah, that's right. That's right. I forgot about that.

[00:18:51] And then on the flip side of that, if you don't do that, you get the mission accomplished. You go to the next level. The end boss of that one is an all range boss. So it covers.

[00:19:01] These, the this one with that one. Yeah, two Gundams flying around. Yeah, yeah, they're hard to hit. Yeah, they're hard to hit.

[00:19:09] And that first bus is like stupid easy though. Yeah, it's kind of like you hit his leg and just falls and he just sits there until you kill him.

[00:19:18] See, I didn't realize that the first time I played it with with my neighbor. So we just tried to keep hitting the battery pack while it was standing. Yeah. And somehow we got really good at doing that. I can't do it now.

[00:19:30] I tried. I tried. I can't do it. I should have tried actually because I bet we did. I bet I did the same thing at the time because naturally you see it, you know, flashing when you hit it and you're like, oh, that's the that's the hit point or you're going to go for it.

[00:19:43] But but this time I did exactly what Jiggy said. It's just like, I take out the leg and that's it. And it's over. Yeah, just do that. It takes like one bomb to the mic. He's gone.

[00:19:52] Like, it's it's fine. It's OK for it to be easy. It's just the first stage and stuff. But but yeah, I I.

[00:20:00] How do you guys feel about so I played the I played the the lava stage.

[00:20:06] Yeah, solar. Yeah, solar. That's it. Yeah, I played that a couple of times and I think I used to hate it because it's like constantly the heat and it's chipping away at your your health and stuff like that.

[00:20:19] I have to play a couple of times like, OK, I get you know, I'm good. I like this. I like the sort of extra strategy of it and everything.

[00:20:26] Couple points you got to make. Yeah, a couple of you got to make sure you hit the brakes without being told to hit the brakes.

[00:20:32] You really got to maneuver around and be more careful. And I I like that it's it's not easy, but that's that's OK.

[00:20:38] And you're sort of halfway through the game at that point anyways, at least.

[00:20:43] I don't know what you guys thought if you guys enjoyed that one.

[00:20:46] I mean, like and even the I don't know, lava birds or whatever.

[00:20:51] You want to like take out as many as possible because you're right. Health is a factor. Yeah, this baby can take temperatures up to 9000 degrees, but you're going to be getting a lot of of silver, you know, rings and stuff like that to keep your health up.

[00:21:08] Yeah, I think it's interesting to that like the lower you go, the more it chips away at your health. I thought that was an interesting choice. I really like that level. Yeah, I like the boss in that one.

[00:21:17] Oh yeah, yeah, the boss is cool. It's just like a lava monster, right? Yeah, giant lava monster. Yeah, that that level.

[00:21:26] It takes your health up to a certain point because once you get close ish to the boss, it kind of stops unless you're really low. Right.

[00:21:33] And it's an awful level to get the metal at. It sucks to get the metal in that level because you have to get 100 kills and unless you're spamming the bombs, you're not doing it, dude. It takes so much.

[00:21:47] Yeah. The good thing is that it's a good yeah. Yeah. The good thing is that it's a good like refill level. You can refill your bonds really easily.

[00:21:55] Yeah, the good thing is that it's a good like refill level. You can refill your bonds really easily. Get the three rings, spam a couple of extra ships.

[00:22:04] But you just got to keep spamming bombs nonstop. Yeah, I have it's very good because the bombs are very useful in Macbeth, especially at the beginning of Macbeth. Oh yeah.

[00:22:13] Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I have this habit of not using my bombs enough.

[00:22:19] Like I don't know what it is. I don't know why I don't I have that. You want to be conservative about it. You want to hold on to them. You like what if I really need these?

[00:22:27] What if I really need them at the point that is right now that I really need them?

[00:22:32] I don't know why. What if you need them even more later?

[00:22:34] I just I'm too conservative. That's that's the problem. Oh yeah, no, I am playing the the Aquas level here, which probably means I'm going to die in a couple minutes.

[00:22:44] You know, you eat a couple lives in Aquas every time and it just it's going to happen. Yeah.

[00:22:50] So that's the one thing that I don't love about this game. If you like the one thing that it's like, I guess you could call it annoying.

[00:22:58] Like especially if you're towards the end of the game and you die and you have to reset your lasers essentially and all your sort of health.

[00:23:07] That that sucks. That really works. And it just makes it so much harder than it should be like.

[00:23:15] But that's that's the old school, you know, top down or side scrolling shoot them up like when when you are just.

[00:23:23] Playing Gradius and like you have the Vic Viper completely decked out and you die.

[00:23:30] It sucks. Like I just reset the game. Like I just lose that quarter. I'm done.

[00:23:34] I don't want to play anymore. Like I want to go back to the beginning of the game and get my my cool ship.

[00:23:39] Yeah, this is if you notice. Oh, sorry. Go ahead.

[00:23:43] It's going to be quick. So if you notice, there is a slight change in the game.

[00:23:47] Play not only with the missiles and how slow it is, but when you shoot in the submarine, you only shoot once.

[00:23:53] When you're in the Arwing, every time you press the button, it does a three burst laser.

[00:23:58] Yeah. So that also adds to the frustration of this stage that you can't just spam the laser.

[00:24:04] You have to spam both laser and torpedo nonstop.

[00:24:08] Yeah. So that muscle memory is different.

[00:24:11] Yeah, like it. Yeah, like it feels like a curve ball.

[00:24:14] The first time I played this stage, it felt like a ginormous curveball.

[00:24:18] I don't think I think I wasted all my my life the first time that I played it in this stage because wow, it's it was very different.

[00:24:26] The underwater one, the aquas or aquas is definitely the most challenging for a number of reasons like we've talked about.

[00:24:33] So I think that's the biggest thing.

[00:24:35] I think the underwater one, the aquas or aquas is definitely the most challenging for a number of reasons like we've talked about.

[00:24:41] So yeah, Jiggy, what are you going to say?

[00:24:44] I was just going to say piggybacking off the game also punishes you for being a bad pilot.

[00:24:50] So if you were playing like Venom in particular, like the one side of Venom that you go in,

[00:24:56] it'll have things like columns that shoot out of the wall and you have to maneuver around them.

[00:25:01] So you'll constantly try to chip your wings.

[00:25:03] And if you lose a wing, you also lose your shot.

[00:25:06] Yes. Like so not only and lose you lose your shot, but if you suck as a pilot, you can lose your shot even if you survive.

[00:25:13] And you're penalized because the the item that gives you your wings back would have been a laser.

[00:25:21] It's it's the laser upgrade.

[00:25:24] But if you don't have wings, they it's the wing upgrade.

[00:25:27] And even further, when your wing is gone, your your ship starts like leaning toward one way, which makes sense.

[00:25:35] But it's still like you got to account for it.

[00:25:37] So you're slightly holding the left or right to try to compensate for it.

[00:25:40] Yeah, I had I don't know if it's this particular run that I'm playing while we're talking here.

[00:25:44] Another one, I think it was even yesterday or something like that.

[00:25:49] I did the sort of the hard route, if you want to call it that.

[00:25:55] I did pretty well through it and, you know, no, no big deal.

[00:25:58] Maybe died once in the underwater because of course I did.

[00:26:00] Yeah. But but at the end, you're going to drown at least once.

[00:26:05] Yeah, at least going to have. Yeah.

[00:26:06] The Andros in that is where he's the brain with the two eyeballs and the electrical.

[00:26:10] Right. You know, stuff seems simple, but you always get hit by the electrical.

[00:26:17] I had a hard time with it, like just at least getting back into how I needed to do it.

[00:26:23] And both my wings were clipped.

[00:26:25] I had no health left and I shot the part of the brain that you need to take him out right as I was about to run into him.

[00:26:33] And I was like, oh, no, because Fox does the yell.

[00:26:36] He goes, ah, at the end, as if you're dying.

[00:26:39] But he does that. I think he does that anyways, because everything explodes.

[00:26:44] Never give up. Never give up.

[00:26:46] Oh, my God. I'm so strong.

[00:26:49] I saw you had that happen.

[00:26:53] Asa. Yeah, and I and I beat it and it worked like I hit him right at the like he needed nothing left.

[00:27:00] And so did I. I had no wings.

[00:27:02] The fire's coming out of the side of the our wing and everything.

[00:27:04] And I'm like, oh, man, I got to do this again.

[00:27:08] I can't catch you. My wings are broken.

[00:27:12] Yeah. Oh, yes. So then it feels so stupid.

[00:27:16] Like you're flying and you're like trying to like you want to show your father that you've you know, your experience.

[00:27:22] You're a much better pilot than he last saw you and your ships out there.

[00:27:25] But you're just like so.

[00:27:28] So what happens is you go into that segment where it's basically, you know, getting out of the Death Star essentially escaping the death star essentially.

[00:27:37] And your ship is back to normal.

[00:27:40] You have both wings. It resets your ship. Yeah.

[00:27:42] Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:27:43] So I was like, thank God, because that part you have to kind of keep up your speed a little bit.

[00:27:48] You have to follow him which way he's going.

[00:27:50] You're which way your dad's going and everything.

[00:27:52] And I was like, oh, man, I beat that.

[00:27:54] But there's no way I'm going to be able to do this because I knew it was coming.

[00:27:57] And then there's my ship with both wings.

[00:27:59] I was like, all right, thanks, James.

[00:28:01] It's nice enough to bring you an extra pair.

[00:28:03] Everyone's packing everything extra for me.

[00:28:05] I can't do it myself clearly.

[00:28:07] Well, that's the easy mode.

[00:28:09] That's the easy mode. Yeah.

[00:28:12] So so where did James go at the end?

[00:28:16] I think it was all just in his mind.

[00:28:19] Really? I think Fox is crazy.

[00:28:21] Yeah, I think it's a brain real alone bounty hunter flying out into space.

[00:28:25] Yeah. Yeah. He's alive.

[00:28:28] Mm hmm. What if he was the real villain of Star Fox Adventures?

[00:28:31] That would have been great. That would have been awesome.

[00:28:33] That would have been way cooler. Yeah, that would have been way cooler.

[00:28:37] Yeah, I got it. Yeah. So so as far as the like, I like doing the the the hard the hard route up the side.

[00:28:46] Right. The levels are weird and really difficult, even though I hate them.

[00:28:52] But I think when I finally settled when I was playing this game a lot, my go to route was to go up.

[00:29:03] Sector Y and then but then cut up to the dogfight planet with Bill.

[00:29:11] Yeah, and like the like the Independence Day ship basically.

[00:29:15] Yes, yes. I love that level.

[00:29:19] I love the solar and Macbeth.

[00:29:21] And then for Macbeth, if you hit all the switches, you can get back onto the difficult path and like get true ending, which, you know,

[00:29:31] Venom Venom, you know, easy way is like it's fun.

[00:29:36] But like I wanted another Star Wars fight like I wanted to go through.

[00:29:41] What is area 31 or whatever?

[00:29:44] 36. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:29:48] Aging the entire game. I love that level. Yeah.

[00:29:51] So I get to go through these like I love the three middle medium difficulty levels I think are all really cool.

[00:29:57] Yeah, especially the train fight.

[00:30:00] The train fight is dope, man.

[00:30:02] I so I love that.

[00:30:03] The first couple of times I played, I just avoided that stage because like I just I don't feel like doing the sort of the ground levels all that much or whatever.

[00:30:10] And then I did it a couple days ago and I was like, oh, man, this I should have played this level before.

[00:30:15] This is a good stage.

[00:30:18] It's not like the greatest thing ever.

[00:30:20] But like it works better than the other ground stage, I think.

[00:30:24] Yeah, which also sucks to get the medal that that Titania is awful for them.

[00:30:30] A lot of them are pretty tough.

[00:30:32] I got a couple by accident.

[00:30:33] I wasn't trying to.

[00:30:34] I got a couple by accident sort of towards the beginning half.

[00:30:38] I can't remember which one which ones it was.

[00:30:40] It might have been the asteroid and well, I can confirm that you got coronary and sector wide based on what happened in your.

[00:30:46] OK, so there you go.

[00:30:47] That's one of them.

[00:30:48] There you go.

[00:30:49] That's probably actually the run that I'm thinking of.

[00:30:51] Maybe it was this one.

[00:30:52] Anybody else love Sector X?

[00:30:54] Because I love.

[00:30:55] Yes, yes, yes.

[00:30:56] Either route that you went.

[00:30:58] You'd fight the giant robot.

[00:31:00] Yeah, or you'd hit the gates and like teleport.

[00:31:02] And it was just so it was so cool.

[00:31:04] Yeah, that one.

[00:31:06] That was a lot of fun.

[00:31:08] I like those stages.

[00:31:10] That one.

[00:31:11] And oh, man, I keep getting the stages mixed up.

[00:31:16] But those those ones where the level is the pieces are kind of flying.

[00:31:20] By you and the level of the stage is kind of flying by, you know, whether it's it's oh man, whether it is, is it?

[00:31:28] Oh no, maybe it is Macbeth.

[00:31:29] I'm thinking of I just I like how those stages can shift around you and everything.

[00:31:33] And even if you play that stage back to back in your runs, it's probably going to feel a little bit different because you might turn a little bit more left or go down or whatever, even though the enemies are coming the same way.

[00:31:44] Like there's this is essentially a rail shooter, but stuff changes like it's not exactly the same.

[00:31:53] They find they find a way to make it interesting each time no matter what stage you do.

[00:31:57] And I think that's part of the brilliance of what this game offers.

[00:32:01] Yeah, a lot of the old schmups are very palette, swappy.

[00:32:06] It also has a bunch of secrets in pretty much every stage, like at least the first couple of stages.

[00:32:14] There is a way to take an alternate route in sec and media.

[00:32:19] The media set stage.

[00:32:22] There are these blue rings.

[00:32:25] If you hit all of them, you go into hyperspace and you get shot to Katina.

[00:32:30] Right. Right.

[00:32:31] I forgot about that.

[00:32:32] Yeah, I think stuff like that.

[00:32:33] And I miss those said to speak to Star Wolf because you can have, I believe, three battles with Star Wolf.

[00:32:41] And the first one is on the China if I'm reading it right.

[00:32:46] And then if you do that, you can actually you can either go to venom on the hard route or you can go to bowls bowl say I don't know how to pronounce it like satellite thing.

[00:32:58] And then they'll reappear.

[00:32:59] And when they reappear, they're all like bandaged up.

[00:33:02] And I just love that detail.

[00:33:04] Like, so it involves if balls.

[00:33:09] I like it.

[00:33:10] No, we're going with it.

[00:33:11] We're going to go with it.

[00:33:12] So that if there's any survivors from Fashina, they'll appear there.

[00:33:17] If you kill all of them and you go the hard route through venom, all of them show up, whether you kill them or not.

[00:33:24] They all show up.

[00:33:25] And like you said, they're all bandaged up with like medical gel and shit.

[00:33:30] Yeah, yeah.

[00:33:31] You fancy ships.

[00:33:32] Yeah, the ship thing is cool, too.

[00:33:33] How do you like our new ship?

[00:33:34] So I love that.

[00:33:36] You can barrel roll now.

[00:33:38] What the hell?

[00:33:40] I tell you, though, man, like when you're doing those all range mode stages, especially against against them, if you have your blue laser, if you have your full fledged light, you can crush those guys.

[00:33:53] If you're behind them in the at the right time, like they just disappear.

[00:33:56] It's wild.

[00:33:57] That's the thing about Star Fox 64.

[00:33:59] You can get stupid good if you know how to play and you know, you know.

[00:34:05] OK, so if you can get Max laser, you keep a couple bombs on spare.

[00:34:09] You can beat things stupid fast, which is awesome.

[00:34:12] Yeah.

[00:34:13] Like that sector Wi-Fi.

[00:34:15] I mean, if you if you can map out where they're going to be and just kind of like loop back, you can take them out super, super fast.

[00:34:22] Yeah, you can.

[00:34:23] But man, like the stage is awesome.

[00:34:26] The stage from start to the boss fight.

[00:34:29] It's awesome.

[00:34:30] It's usually just going through a space battle the entire way.

[00:34:33] And then you get to the boss and it's three of the regular enemies you've been fighting the entire time.

[00:34:40] But they move faster.

[00:34:42] Like, couldn't you think of something else?

[00:34:45] That's true.

[00:34:47] That's true.

[00:34:48] That's true.

[00:34:49] That's true.

[00:34:50] It's not not the most creative when so much of the so much of the game is otherwise.

[00:34:55] You're kind of like, wait, why?

[00:34:58] Yeah, I can.

[00:34:59] So as you fight a trash collecting pirate that shoots barrels and cannonballs at you.

[00:35:05] That's awesome.

[00:35:06] So good.

[00:35:07] Yeah.

[00:35:08] Like who are these guys?

[00:35:09] Why are they like why are they joining the fight here?

[00:35:12] Like what does this guy have to have to gain from this?

[00:35:15] Like what?

[00:35:16] I mean, he wants to salvage that sweet, sweet diffuser.

[00:35:20] I guess.

[00:35:23] He's like is like a character from Fallout or something like that.

[00:35:26] Just looking for all the tech.

[00:35:27] Just got to grab it all.

[00:35:29] So you get everything you possibly can.

[00:35:30] Yeah.

[00:35:31] OK.

[00:35:32] Yeah, I could see it.

[00:35:33] I mean, we showed up on his planet.

[00:35:35] Come on.

[00:35:36] That's true.

[00:35:37] Yeah.

[00:35:38] Yeah, we are the problem.

[00:35:39] Yeah.

[00:35:40] Hey, Luigi.

[00:35:42] I know you're looking at this footage.

[00:35:45] Why don't you like the stage?

[00:35:47] This is.

[00:35:48] Oh, I just I love the stage that just the search lights piss me off because they just

[00:35:53] would always miss one and you're in the middle of your run and it's not like the

[00:35:59] switch now or you just rewind rewind to get it, you know, and you're like, all

[00:36:05] right, well, I guess hopefully next time I'll get it.

[00:36:07] I guess I'm doing the hard route again because I got to want I want to get it

[00:36:11] today or something.

[00:36:12] So as you see, you always you miss.

[00:36:14] We always miss one.

[00:36:15] It's like, God damn it.

[00:36:16] I know.

[00:36:17] Yeah.

[00:36:18] Well, that's what they want, right?

[00:36:19] They want it to be like you got you got to just like it's always a couple that

[00:36:22] are a little too little extra out of reach.

[00:36:24] Same thing with the with the train level with the switches.

[00:36:26] You know, it's kind of the same thing.

[00:36:28] There's there's one or is like two or three maybe that are during the boss

[00:36:32] fight.

[00:36:33] That's tricky.

[00:36:34] Like, oh yeah, like you're you're messing with them at that point.

[00:36:36] Yeah.

[00:36:37] Yeah, you're not worrying about the about the fight itself, right?

[00:36:41] It's it's the last three and the first one Falco gets for you, but the other

[00:36:46] two and the switcher you have to hit on your own.

[00:36:48] Yeah, the switcher you have to do yourself.

[00:36:50] Yeah.

[00:36:51] Yeah.

[00:36:52] By like doors and stuff.

[00:36:53] Yeah.

[00:36:54] You have like blow out of the way or once you get it open or stun.

[00:36:58] I can't stop here.

[00:37:01] You'll never defeat Andrew.

[00:37:06] Yeah.

[00:37:07] Also, yeah, probably the biggest rumble in history.

[00:37:13] It is OK.

[00:37:14] I was just going to say that it is.

[00:37:15] It's the largest explosion in the entire game.

[00:37:18] The most points you can get like for any one like shot basically.

[00:37:23] Is that what it is?

[00:37:24] It's it's it's like 51.

[00:37:26] Yeah, 51.

[00:37:28] Yeah, that's the first time that I saw that my cousin had come over.

[00:37:31] He's like, I'm going to show you like a very big explosion.

[00:37:34] Nice.

[00:37:35] This game.

[00:37:36] I know all of the explosions and he shows me like the switches and he's like, hold

[00:37:40] the controller.

[00:37:41] I'm holding it and it hits the the depot and explodes.

[00:37:44] I'm like, what?

[00:37:46] It was mind blowing as I had been playing that game for years.

[00:37:50] Did you go here?

[00:37:53] Almost.

[00:37:55] Almost.

[00:37:57] I can't remember who does that anymore.

[00:38:01] The other thing about this stage is you guys.

[00:38:04] I think you mentioned Bill a little while ago.

[00:38:07] Kat shows up in this.

[00:38:09] What do you guys think?

[00:38:10] What do you guys think just in general of like the extra characters?

[00:38:12] What do you think?

[00:38:13] You like, is it cool to have them showing up and stuff or is it kind of like, yeah,

[00:38:17] OK, whatever.

[00:38:18] There's kind of I think it's it's always cool to get allies, but I don't like

[00:38:22] having to save them at the same time.

[00:38:25] It's like it depends what I'm doing.

[00:38:28] Like in this stage where it's very linear, I do not welcome it because I'm like,

[00:38:33] just let me do my thing.

[00:38:34] I don't want to have to like pay attention to you at all.

[00:38:36] I don't care about you at all.

[00:38:38] But in stages like so if you help her on this stage or whatever, if you

[00:38:42] beat the if you get the mission accomplished right or whatever, I think if

[00:38:45] you get accomplished, she shows up next when you get to Sector Z, she'll

[00:38:48] show up and actually help you hit the missiles, which is welcome because

[00:38:52] it's actually helpful.

[00:38:53] You know, so when they're helpful like that, it's awesome.

[00:38:56] Like if you help Bill and all of them in Katina, then he shows up later.

[00:39:01] I don't remember what stage off the top of my head.

[00:39:04] Solar, he shows up in solar and he just like helps you kill a couple of enemies

[00:39:10] so you can get some help.

[00:39:11] Yeah, he's in Sector X.

[00:39:13] He helps you to unlock the gates so that you can go into.

[00:39:16] Oh, that's yeah.

[00:39:18] Yeah.

[00:39:19] And Kat will show up in just shows up once right.

[00:39:23] Or she will show up in both of the level.

[00:39:25] I think I don't think she just shows up in Z.

[00:39:27] She'll show up and help you if you go the other way.

[00:39:30] I think it's Macbeth.

[00:39:31] Yeah, just shows up near the beginning and takes down a couple of enemies

[00:39:35] and then disappears.

[00:39:36] It's nothing.

[00:39:37] The problem with her.

[00:39:38] The problem with her showing up in Z is that if you're looking to get

[00:39:42] the metal for C, she automatically takes down one of the missiles.

[00:39:46] So that's you're basically locked out of getting the metal when she does.

[00:39:50] OK.

[00:39:51] Oh, OK.

[00:39:53] Oh, no.

[00:39:54] Oh, man.

[00:39:55] That's that's got to be quicker than her.

[00:39:58] But it's hard because you're paying attention to five other things.

[00:40:01] Yeah.

[00:40:02] Right.

[00:40:03] Like I like the enemies in that stage are very aggressive.

[00:40:06] Yeah.

[00:40:07] They will take down your team if you don't help them.

[00:40:09] Yeah.

[00:40:10] And without her, it's a pretty difficult stage.

[00:40:12] I think like it's it's definitely for me it was at least anyway

[00:40:16] from when I was replaying them.

[00:40:18] But I like I like it when their friends show up.

[00:40:21] Yeah.

[00:40:22] I think it's fun.

[00:40:23] Other animals show up and say dumb animal noises.

[00:40:26] And they talk about their history or whatever.

[00:40:31] Like, you know, yeah, it's fun.

[00:40:33] I think it's their history.

[00:40:35] They create this little narrative and like you start wondering like like,

[00:40:38] oh, Bill and Fox were friends in elementary school or something.

[00:40:43] I'll go get what's going on there.

[00:40:46] Because like when you're a kid, like you think about that crap,

[00:40:49] because because you have like you're playing this game all the time.

[00:40:52] Like, OK, well, I wonder what is about these people.

[00:40:54] And like, I think it's so crazy that like Nintendo just they had something

[00:41:00] like this could have been huge, like they could have done story

[00:41:04] or something with this and yeah,

[00:41:06] or had these characters that people just love and revere

[00:41:09] and still reference and like are in the pop culture

[00:41:12] and they just did nothing with it.

[00:41:13] That's true.

[00:41:14] They sort of let it be.

[00:41:16] They explore it in the game that nobody played.

[00:41:19] Right.

[00:41:20] And Command for DS, you have a bunch of different

[00:41:23] branching paths that you can take.

[00:41:25] And that's where they explain.

[00:41:27] Oh, and and Ross had a nephew who hated him

[00:41:30] and not a nephew, a grandkid that hated him and wanted to kill him.

[00:41:33] Fox and crystals explained more and Falco and cat

[00:41:38] and Bill and Fox and all that stuff.

[00:41:41] So we got to get a rerelease of that.

[00:41:43] That's what I got to play. Yeah.

[00:41:45] Like, OK, here's the thing.

[00:41:47] Let me. It's Fire Emblem.

[00:41:48] Fire Emblem, Star Fox. It's awesome.

[00:41:50] Oh, I said it again, though.

[00:41:52] Enough. Yeah, like it's one of those games.

[00:41:54] I still prefer like in my mind, I love Star Fox 64

[00:42:00] and I got Star Fox Command being like, oh yeah,

[00:42:03] it's going to be Star Fox 64.

[00:42:04] It's the new it's the new Star Fox.

[00:42:06] It's on my DS.

[00:42:07] It's going to be amazing.

[00:42:08] Yes. And then it was like it was it had those moments.

[00:42:11] It had that a little bit of it, but it was different.

[00:42:15] It was fundamentally different. And it wasn't bad.

[00:42:19] I think I'd appreciate it now more than I did back then,

[00:42:22] because back then I was like, I just didn't Star Fox 64.

[00:42:25] Yeah. You know?

[00:42:26] Well, that's what you want.

[00:42:27] That's what I would have expected to if I if I had it at the time.

[00:42:30] I think what I didn't realize until I was looking up sort of how

[00:42:33] some of the stuff, but when the game was made is that those extra characters,

[00:42:37] regardless of who they are, like Bill and Kat specifically,

[00:42:40] they added those super late in the development.

[00:42:44] So maybe they just didn't have the time to do it sort of thing.

[00:42:48] Like, maybe that was part of the problem is they just weren't given

[00:42:50] the opportunity to do much with it.

[00:42:52] It's not a super long game, so there's only so much you're going to get done.

[00:42:55] But and maybe that's just an excuse.

[00:42:57] But I wouldn't be surprised if, you know, Miyamoto who's like,

[00:43:01] hey, we need extra characters. That would be fun.

[00:43:03] Let's go more NPCs that they're just like, well, what do you we have

[00:43:07] more space on this thing? Yeah.

[00:43:09] We can we cram somehow.

[00:43:10] We have more space on this thing.

[00:43:12] Let's find a way to add more.

[00:43:14] And Miyamoto, we're trying to figure out how to make the rumble pack work.

[00:43:20] Look at this train level we have.

[00:43:22] It'll be epic.

[00:43:26] I mean, I don't know who was I mean, I assume Takeda's team

[00:43:31] or something or I don't know whose team was on that, but I could only imagine

[00:43:35] walking in with like, yes, here, use it for this.

[00:43:38] This will be great.

[00:43:40] Standing back.

[00:43:45] It is a MAMIRA MAMIRA and Marita.

[00:43:51] So he says last name.

[00:43:53] What which R&D number?

[00:43:55] I don't know because Kazuki Marita and Takaya MAMIRA

[00:44:03] began working on the game in 1995.

[00:44:05] So actually, when you really think about it, they were not

[00:44:09] really given that much time to make this game.

[00:44:12] I know things were two years, two years.

[00:44:15] Apparently, the whole like add the add the extra characters thing

[00:44:19] happened in 1997 when the game was released.

[00:44:23] Like, that's how short of a timeline they had.

[00:44:25] So that would fundamentally change at least a couple of these stages.

[00:44:29] And that's wild.

[00:44:31] And they they figured it out, man.

[00:44:34] They they figured it out.

[00:44:36] So the other thing I want to I want to talk about is sort of how the game

[00:44:41] looks too, because we've talked about Jiggy you mentioned and Chris,

[00:44:44] you guys were mentioning sort of how the character faces and stuff like that.

[00:44:48] Yeah.

[00:44:50] So they yeah, they specifically I think it was Miyamoto that had it.

[00:44:55] Yeah, I have the note.

[00:44:56] Yeah.

[00:44:57] Miyamoto suggested that they want things to look more animated and less real.

[00:45:03] So they specifically made them look like puppets because that's what he wanted.

[00:45:08] And I don't know, I think it works.

[00:45:11] It doesn't need to be a perfect thing.

[00:45:14] But but I think I think that was pretty a pretty good choice in my opinion.

[00:45:21] I don't know if you guys care.

[00:45:22] I like them.

[00:45:23] Like, I don't know.

[00:45:24] I like the design in this one.

[00:45:26] Yeah, the cutie cartoony stuff is cool too.

[00:45:30] But it's a little bit in between.

[00:45:34] It's not you know, it's it's not really cartoonish or anything.

[00:45:39] It sort of has like a sort of balance there.

[00:45:41] Yeah, I think it's a good game too.

[00:45:44] Yeah, it is.

[00:45:46] It looks good.

[00:45:48] The the puppet look really works for it, especially when you see them

[00:45:52] looking around and just like a puppet with no emotion or anything in their eyes.

[00:45:58] That's true.

[00:45:59] Yeah, I mean, it conveys it well.

[00:46:03] I also find it pretty funny.

[00:46:06] I just had it just came up on the on the video I'm playing to let me see if I can find the Fox's response when they start some of the stages I found really funny because his response is so short to like react to the

[00:46:21] scenario.

[00:46:22] I don't know if this is one of them.

[00:46:25] The enemy army is gunning for you.

[00:46:28] Be careful.

[00:46:30] Don't worry, sir.

[00:46:31] I forgot about these.

[00:46:32] That's it.

[00:46:33] Don't worry, sir.

[00:46:34] Yep.

[00:46:35] That's it.

[00:46:36] Not like what's happening.

[00:46:39] What should I be prepared for?

[00:46:41] Or, you know, what area?

[00:46:43] Don't worry.

[00:46:44] All right.

[00:46:45] I mean, you got it, I guess.

[00:46:47] You know, it really speaks to how terrible of a character Slippy is when he gets knocked to Titania.

[00:46:53] General Pepper's like, just leave him.

[00:46:55] Let him die.

[00:46:56] Yeah.

[00:46:57] We can't afford to go after him, Star Fox.

[00:47:00] I can't leave Slippy hanging.

[00:47:02] I can't leave him hanging.

[00:47:04] Yeah.

[00:47:05] Oh my God.

[00:47:06] That's so funny.

[00:47:07] It's a favor to his father.

[00:47:09] I think, yeah, Jiggy, you're right.

[00:47:13] I think this game, I think it looks pretty good.

[00:47:15] It's a fast moving game, especially on these sort of on the open stages, the full range modes, as you will.

[00:47:23] And it's not overly populated in some of these spots, but there's a lot going on.

[00:47:29] There's a lot moving and they there's no I don't know.

[00:47:32] I didn't experience any kind of sluggish play or slow down or any of that kind of stuff.

[00:47:37] I know it's every once in a while that happens on some 64 games.

[00:47:41] But like, it's just always been like a flawless experience every time I've played this.

[00:47:46] Only slowdown is when you use the brakes.

[00:47:51] Yeah, yeah, that's right.

[00:47:53] Yeah, that tanks the frames per second.

[00:47:56] Everything just also cool sound effect.

[00:48:01] It's a cool like, yeah.

[00:48:04] And then the sound and the music in this game are awesome, you know, including the voices of the characters.

[00:48:09] I think, you know, I think the thing growing up was like, oh, Slippy is so annoying.

[00:48:14] He's always whining.

[00:48:15] He always needs help.

[00:48:16] But everybody does.

[00:48:18] He just has a high pitched voice.

[00:48:20] That's the difference.

[00:48:22] Falco won't stop whining.

[00:48:24] You know, he's he's so annoying.

[00:48:26] Yeah, he's I don't think there's any difference there.

[00:48:30] To me, to me, they're all the same.

[00:48:32] But I don't know if you guys feel differently.

[00:48:36] You know, yeah.

[00:48:40] I was really upset when I found out the first time that they give you money when you finish it.

[00:48:47] Oh, my God. Yeah.

[00:48:48] General Pepper signs a check and you never actually get that money.

[00:48:52] You never can do anything with it.

[00:48:55] It would have been so cool if they would have let me buy the wolf and just fly the wolf and drop the game.

[00:49:00] Ships design is so sick.

[00:49:02] Yes, they are cool.

[00:49:04] Yes, those are really cool designs.

[00:49:05] You're right.

[00:49:07] That's true. I completely forgot about that.

[00:49:09] I completely forgot about the fact that they stamp your your bill like a center, your invoice or whatever.

[00:49:17] That's what it is. Right.

[00:49:19] Like, yeah, it's an invoice.

[00:49:21] Yeah, I couldn't tell.

[00:49:22] I could never tell if it was like us getting paid or them like looking at how much damage we did or giving us a bill or.

[00:49:31] Yeah, I never know.

[00:49:33] I'm pretty sure it's us getting paid because it says like services rendered or something like that.

[00:49:37] I'm pretty sure.

[00:49:38] Oh, I can find it.

[00:49:40] I got to find it then.

[00:49:41] This is well, I guess this is worth the price of freedom.

[00:49:45] Yeah, so it could go either way.

[00:49:47] Yeah, it could go either way when he says that right.

[00:49:50] It could be this is the price because of what you did or this is the price because I guess here's your check.

[00:49:57] I guess, sir.

[00:50:00] Well, I don't know if he actually said that.

[00:50:02] That was just me ad libbing.

[00:50:05] Him telling Fox, just know that this is the money we were going to use to rebuild Cornelia after you destroyed it.

[00:50:11] I don't live there.

[00:50:12] So that's cool.

[00:50:14] Sorry, buddy. Sounds like a you problem.

[00:50:15] I don't know what you want me to do about that.

[00:50:17] I live in a giant.

[00:50:18] I'm going to get reelected now.

[00:50:22] Your father would have never charged this much.

[00:50:26] And that's why he's dead.

[00:50:29] Couldn't pay his bills.

[00:50:30] I'll never make the same mistake as him.

[00:50:35] My father doesn't know what's going on.

[00:50:37] He doesn't get it.

[00:50:38] Come on, you old fart.

[00:50:41] My father wore the same pair of glasses for 20 years.

[00:50:47] His vision was awful.

[00:50:50] I don't know how you let him fly a ship.

[00:50:52] Look where that got him.

[00:50:56] I think I think the more I think about all the other characters, the more I realize that actually maybe maybe great Fox is probably the most useful because of all because they always.

[00:51:10] Yeah, it's always tossing you the little boxes and at least in a stage like this, like we're trying to take out the missiles, at least.

[00:51:18] As to what's going on, you know, like it's getting closer or there's one on the, you know, whatever, whatever the descriptions that he gives you.

[00:51:26] No one else does that.

[00:51:28] No one else is doing that.

[00:51:29] Have you guys ever failed this stage?

[00:51:31] Yeah, I think this time, but probably back in the day, probably.

[00:51:34] Yeah, and it breaks the wind.

[00:51:36] Yep.

[00:51:37] That's so cool.

[00:51:38] And then it keeps it through for the rest of the game.

[00:51:40] So even in the end credits, when you see the start, the great Fox taking off like the whole wing is missing.

[00:51:46] Oh really?

[00:51:47] Okay, so it doesn't take the whole.

[00:51:48] Yeah, just kind of hits the side.

[00:51:51] Like it hits it and you see kind of like a mesh and the wing is missing.

[00:51:56] And I think when it hits it has electricity after that it's gone, but it still has the mesh and damage and stuff.

[00:52:02] Interesting.

[00:52:03] Okay, nice.

[00:52:04] The cool thing in Area 6, the piggyback off the great Fox stuff, it actually will attack the enemies.

[00:52:13] It'll be like, we'll lay down support and it'll like shoot a bunch of yellow lasers that are super effective.

[00:52:19] It's awesome.

[00:52:21] It feels badass.

[00:52:23] Right, Rob just rolls in and is like, I'm hard as fuck.

[00:52:27] I'm going to shoot them.

[00:52:31] Stand back children.

[00:52:32] I've got this.

[00:52:34] And the cool part is that when he takes down those ships, it still gives you full points for taking them down.

[00:52:39] Oh does it?

[00:52:40] Nice.

[00:52:41] Yeah, that's what I'm saying.

[00:52:44] Like, screw Corneria.

[00:52:47] We have this giant mothership to live on.

[00:52:50] I don't need to fix Corneria.

[00:52:52] That's a you problem.

[00:52:55] It doesn't seem like, I mean they're definitely not interested in sticking around for sure.

[00:53:01] But also like, yeah, it's almost like, look what we got here.

[00:53:05] What else?

[00:53:06] Like really?

[00:53:07] I'm going to go hang out with some dinosaurs now.

[00:53:10] I don't know if you know this, but I got pals of dinosaurs so it's happening.

[00:53:15] Although he hires us for that too, doesn't he?

[00:53:18] Yeah, he does.

[00:53:20] Okay.

[00:53:21] Man, I'm so unknowledgeable about what happens after this game.

[00:53:26] Like my experience at Star Fox.

[00:53:28] Don't worry about it.

[00:53:29] It's not canon.

[00:53:30] Well, canon or not, whatever the story is.

[00:53:32] I just, I think I played this game so much and had an SNES as well that it was just those two games.

[00:53:40] And I don't know, for me, like this is all I need.

[00:53:43] I just need this game.

[00:53:45] Like we're talking about it and we've talked about almost every aspect of the game and I've played it 10 times in the last couple of weeks.

[00:53:52] I just want to play it again.

[00:53:54] Yeah, it's fun.

[00:53:55] It's just so fun even though I may have played all of these stages at least a couple of times in the last couple of weeks.

[00:54:02] I don't know why I'd want to do something else.

[00:54:05] I mean, it's just great design to like have the branching paths and like you have all these different kinds of like, you know, whether, you know, it's a cool way to do difficulty.

[00:54:14] But it's just it's just a cool way to to have a game because this you're right.

[00:54:18] This is just like a run game.

[00:54:20] Like I'll you finish.

[00:54:22] All right.

[00:54:23] Let's do another one.

[00:54:24] You know, like let's keep playing whether I actually want to get a medal or not.

[00:54:28] Like I just want to get better at the game.

[00:54:30] I just want to keep playing doing another run.

[00:54:32] Yeah, it's a rail shooter and somehow it's super interesting and super fun and has a lot of different things to to dig into.

[00:54:41] Which is what makes Star Fox assault so insulting as this just like this just like 10 levels in a row of like you can't there's nothing you can do about it.

[00:54:52] You've got to keep going.

[00:54:53] Like there's no choice.

[00:54:55] There's no fun.

[00:54:57] Boring.

[00:54:59] I did.

[00:55:00] I love the multiplayer in that.

[00:55:03] That was good.

[00:55:04] Multiplayer is great.

[00:55:07] What about the multiplayer in this?

[00:55:09] Did you guys do that growing up?

[00:55:10] I did it.

[00:55:11] Yes, did it sometimes not that often.

[00:55:15] But I played it all solo this time.

[00:55:17] Yeah, no.

[00:55:18] Yes, no.

[00:55:19] Yeah, I'm going to I'm going to it's it's not if you had any other stages there's like is there two there's two screen area and sector C.

[00:55:29] Yeah, one's all our wings.

[00:55:31] The other one you can actually be in the tank too but it's or on foot and on foot.

[00:55:35] Mm hmm.

[00:55:36] Yeah, if you get there.

[00:55:37] Yeah, they're so like just foggy and you can't see much and it's way too big for the amount of players you typically have.

[00:55:46] Yeah.

[00:55:48] It could have been more I think I think co-op would have been way cooler.

[00:55:52] That's see that's what I'm thinking is like you're already a squad.

[00:55:56] Like why not squad up because the the dog fights with your friends always end up with just like you you both doing these like big wide turns trying to turn out turn your friends and like it was always one of those things where like we maybe play a round or two.

[00:56:18] In case we like we forgot like oh maybe we should try again or like at the beginning of the birthday you have to sleep over or whatever like play around to Star Fox.

[00:56:27] Oh yeah, this sucks.

[00:56:29] Put something else in.

[00:56:31] Yeah, my brother and I played like recently.

[00:56:35] I went back home and we played multiplayer just because we were bored and we're like let's do it.

[00:56:40] And we did and the match lasted a ridiculous amount of time because we we just would come at it in I get a couple shots you get like one shot and then we pass and then we do this.

[00:56:53] And then we do this.

[00:56:56] And then we come back.

[00:56:58] And it was just it was it just took forever.

[00:57:01] It's a happy to see that I won though.

[00:57:03] It's an good job.

[00:57:04] It's an unintentional air show is what it is like that's because that's what it is.

[00:57:09] There's no pacing like there's no tension or drama to the right to the multiplayer because exactly what you're saying even if you have four people eventually you will be down to two people and it will always be like that.

[00:57:23] It will be exactly as you described every match and so like you know I don't know.

[00:57:29] It's just kind of like.

[00:57:31] On the on the 3DS they since they added auto lock on on 3DS.

[00:57:36] It made it so that somebody's always going to win is not going to stay in.

[00:57:42] Well at least they did something.

[00:57:43] I mean there's at least they did something.

[00:57:49] Question that came up on on a different podcast that I think Luigi and I were both on the what was cool podcast last year.

[00:57:58] I believe it was in the fall or in the summer of 2023 we were we were both on that separately, but we were both on on the actual final.

[00:58:05] We were the guests.

[00:58:06] We were the guests.

[00:58:07] Yeah, the call.

[00:58:08] We both called in separately.

[00:58:09] Yes.

[00:58:10] Question that those guys have so I'm going to steal their idea is when you're doing a barrel roll or when you're turning.

[00:58:16] Are you using the Z or are you using the right bumper?

[00:58:22] What's the habit?

[00:58:23] Chris, what's what do you see?

[00:58:25] Okay, see.

[00:58:27] Yeah.

[00:58:28] And hang on pick up the controller.

[00:58:30] Yeah.

[00:58:34] I feel like I tend to lean toward our a little bit more actually.

[00:58:39] Okay, see now.

[00:58:40] Now they were saying that the Z button automatically spins if you press it once and the R button you press twice.

[00:58:50] No, and I don't think that's right.

[00:58:52] But I always went with with our and I use both Z and R because it you know you tilt it to to do sharp turns.

[00:59:01] Yes.

[00:59:02] And sometimes you need to do a sharp like like when you're like in solar there are times where you want to be in the top corner of the thing because there's there's a huge deadly wave coming at you.

[00:59:14] Yeah.

[00:59:15] So yeah, like I definitely I think I tap our over Z usually but I use them both to steer.

[00:59:22] Yeah, you so I use both the steer but I definitely am tapping that sort of trigger if you want to call it that because I just think that is that is exactly what it is.

[00:59:32] That's right.

[00:59:33] Fine.

[00:59:34] That's right.

[00:59:35] It's a Z.

[00:59:36] I'm pressing. I'm pressing that because all of my movement just instinctually is just coming from my left hand, I guess when I'm when I'm doing that I don't know.

[00:59:46] I don't know if that's that's sort of why why it happens but but definitely with the turning and everything Wow get my ass kicked in this boss right now I'm terrible.

[00:59:55] You think that the trigger would be the shoot button. So well maybe that's part of what it is.

[00:59:59] Right. Maybe that's part of what it is.

[01:00:01] You think but it's not. I wonder why.

[01:00:06] I wonder just didn't know. I don't know. I don't know. I guess you're going to put the world so you're going to put that leaning that way to the.

[01:00:17] Yeah, I guess. Yeah, I guess if that's a crucial part that they wanted to make sure they had then yeah you kind of have to do it that way. That's true.

[01:00:24] Yeah, because the break and turn with either the RZ is is incredibly useful when you're fighting Star Wolf the second time.

[01:00:35] As if you do a loop.

[01:00:39] I don't I don't remember what peppy calls it.

[01:00:42] Wolf.

[01:00:45] When you do when you do a somersault in that in the final fight with Star Wolf wolf will just veer either left or right and then do a somersault right behind you.

[01:00:55] Yeah, so you basically are forced to like break and turn as quick as possible so that you can get them.

[01:01:02] I love the character building with that because the first time when you fight him when you do it he goes what the heck.

[01:01:09] And the second time he's doing it too.

[01:01:12] Yeah, he says that's pretty crazy.

[01:01:14] He's like what the heck.

[01:01:17] Then he's trying to goad you on by telling you that you're good but he's better.

[01:01:23] But yeah, you must have a big move being he must have pigment there being like so.

[01:01:32] They have their equivalents.

[01:01:33] So that is upsetting.

[01:01:37] Yeah, I wonder if there is there an equivalent of those guys and they just all you know they all have their own pet peeve and so be in Falco must be right.

[01:01:45] Oh yeah, yeah, chase that guy man.

[01:01:50] I mean, if you want to think about that even even their their their tech guys like a little it's he's a lizard right I can't remember his name.

[01:02:01] I am the grass.

[01:02:06] Is it because don't they pair off it's like Andrew is with Falco and is the slippy.

[01:02:14] And just because okay, because they're the they have a hit like the nepo hire their isn't doesn't Andrew turn into a politician in assault.

[01:02:25] What he turns into a dead robot.

[01:02:29] Yeah, but before that isn't he like a politician so you could make the connection that the slimy politician is following around the slimy amphibian feathers.

[01:02:41] It makes sense.

[01:02:42] Right.

[01:02:44] I like it.

[01:02:46] I like it.

[01:02:49] Yeah, those guys are blast the one the one guys.

[01:02:52] Everyone's got a funky name except for Andrew seems to be the only guy. Yeah.

[01:02:58] I always laugh at that. Like, I don't know. I don't get it. Like, why is he the only one.

[01:03:07] Just like, I don't know. I, I love him so much. He sucks so much.

[01:03:13] That's like the whiniest like my dad's gonna like gonna tell you what's up.

[01:03:18] That's exactly what he sounds like too. Like he is just, oh no.

[01:03:24] Oh, someone gave me a ginger ale.

[01:03:33] Oh man, you are having a rough time. I'm having a rough time at this. This is a little bit of anxiety watching you play.

[01:03:40] This is one of those bosses that I have faced.

[01:03:45] I don't know if it is actually I don't. I don't know. I don't know if I need my wings to be successful. Oh, you're out. No way. Oh, no way. Look at that. No.

[01:03:55] No health whatsoever. This is what happened I think probably at the end too.

[01:04:00] Like I that's the other thing is like you we've played all three of us have or three of us all four of us have played this game so much.

[01:04:07] You know what you need to do in all these bosses, all these fights. You know what you need to do.

[01:04:12] And yet somehow I've played this stage 40 times.

[01:04:17] How did you get all in one? Even slip. He's dying. Single laser.

[01:04:23] Single laser. There's no way you got that in that one cycle.

[01:04:27] Yeah, Lord. Well, that's crazy. There's no way. Well done.

[01:04:34] Look at that. No way. What you didn't see was he cross faded that footage him doing the exact same thing later.

[01:04:41] So there was like a slight little edit there.

[01:04:46] Yeah, that's the health part. Look a little bit clever editing Dave.

[01:04:50] Yeah, my skills are insane.

[01:04:53] We check the audio file. We'll see the evidence. Yeah, that's right. Yeah.

[01:04:57] Our Fox on that.

[01:05:00] I think.

[01:05:03] Yeah, I think overall obviously we love this game. I mean, this game is just is just incredible.

[01:05:09] If there was anything like if they if they remade this, like is this a game that they should remake or should we just kind of leave it alone?

[01:05:17] Is it that kind of game? They've done it already. I mean, yeah, I guess it was a remake.

[01:05:22] Yes, I guess the 3DS one kind of is. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

[01:05:26] Yeah, but that one's like a straight remake remake. And that one came out in that time when Nintendo wanted to remake their 64 games for the 3DS and they wanted to keep them as faithful as possible by keeping the glitches and everything in them.

[01:05:40] So that is just straight up Star Fox 64 with a new coat of paint and better. Yeah.

[01:05:46] Right. And the multiplayer, like you mentioned. Yeah. Yeah. I think, you know, I think it'd be cool to see it with like, you know, flashier visuals.

[01:05:53] Is it necessary? No, I think that's I think that's really what it comes down to because now so many games are remade regardless of which ones they are.

[01:06:01] Or they call them remasters remakes, whatever you want to call them. And they just feel like, well, all you did was the visuals and it would need to be more than that.

[01:06:09] Maybe there would be the story stuff like you guys were talking about, or maybe there'd be an extra stage or something that was cut at some point.

[01:06:16] I don't know. But I just think this is just one of those games that doesn't really need it.

[01:06:22] It doesn't. I don't think I don't think it needs a remake. I think we need to I think we need a new entry in the Star Fox series. Yeah.

[01:06:31] But I think we need Donkey Kong before this. So that's my two cents.

[01:06:37] Maybe look, I'm going to leave those two cents on the ground. Yeah. I mean, I like I love me some Donkey Kong, but unless it's

[01:06:45] I just it needs to be another. I don't know. I just love. I mean, they will both.

[01:06:50] Both of them will be made by someone else. So if a Star Fox game gets made, someone else, Nintendo will not be making it.

[01:06:56] They will be involved, but won't be making it. Donkey Kong gets made.

[01:06:59] They will be involved, but they won't be making it. So we could get them both at the same time if they did something.

[01:07:05] The problem is that I don't think Nintendo has the balls to do another Donkey Kong 64 type game. That's true. That's true.

[01:07:12] I mean, they did. They made they made Mario Odyssey and it's it's amazing.

[01:07:18] It is fantastic. I just say damn good game. It's just moons everywhere.

[01:07:23] Moons everywhere. You love Mario Odyssey. Great game.

[01:07:27] Am I the only one that thinks that game is just kind of OK? I don't know. Maybe that's just me. Yes. Yeah.

[01:07:32] It has it has moments of like, yeah, I'm just not doing the one percent whole lot.

[01:07:40] It has those moments where you're just like, I'm just like finding moons everywhere.

[01:07:43] And then it has moments where like you've just taken just just my jaws on the floor.

[01:07:48] Like I can't believe what I just did. I can't believe what just happened.

[01:07:51] Like it's unbelievable. Yeah, there's definitely one superstar. Incredible. Incredible. Yeah.

[01:07:59] Yeah. Right. Star Fox 64, everybody. If you haven't played it, please, please play it.

[01:08:07] Please. If you've gotten this far and you have you know nothing about this game, just just fucking play the game.

[01:08:13] It's especially if you have it on. If you have Switch online, you have the expansion pass or pack.

[01:08:19] It's just pick it up and give yourself forty five minutes an hour at the most.

[01:08:24] And you'll get through a run. Don't have to do a perfect.

[01:08:27] You don't have to do the hard run or get all the secrets or whatever.

[01:08:30] Play the whatever you're able to do through it and just just enjoy yourself.

[01:08:36] This game is awesome.

[01:08:39] Because it is a run based game like, you know, yeah, boot up forty five minutes.

[01:08:45] Yeah. Yeah. Keep your high score.

[01:08:48] Yeah, I keep your high score. You can go and like, you know, go back and see if you can improve the next time and all of that stuff.

[01:08:56] Someone else can play it. You guys can share your score.

[01:08:58] Like it's all it has this like arcadey feel without it being at the arcade.

[01:09:02] And I think that that's a good sort of balance that it strikes to.

[01:09:06] It's it's amazing how much stuff is hidden in here for you to just find.

[01:09:11] And a lot of ways, I think that way about this generation is, you know, there's just stuff could be anywhere.

[01:09:18] Like anything could trigger a secret like these worlds are big.

[01:09:22] They're they're 3D.

[01:09:25] You got to look everywhere and find all the stuff.

[01:09:28] And so like you never know, like what's real and what's not right.

[01:09:32] Right. That's cool.

[01:09:33] I have a tradition every New Year's as soon as it hits 12, I pick up the 3D and I run through Star Fox 64.

[01:09:41] I have to. Oh, shit.

[01:09:44] And that usually opens up a can of worms because then I'm stuck the next two or three weeks just replaying Star Fox over and over again.

[01:09:51] And I started a counter last year.

[01:09:53] I beat the game 38 times last year.

[01:09:55] This year, I'm at 15, 16 because as you can see, like TV's right there and I work from home a lot.

[01:10:04] So all I have to do is just turn the chair around.

[01:10:06] And if I'm on the DS and working on the on the kitchen table or something, I it's too easy to stop working and just do something better and play Star Fox.

[01:10:19] Oh, yeah. It's this is this is that game.

[01:10:22] For sure. Yeah. Jiggy, any final thoughts?

[01:10:26] Go play it. Go play it. It's a great game.

[01:10:28] It's it's an excellent game.

[01:10:31] Just a great single player experience that is very hard to match on on this console, I would say.

[01:10:39] And I'm really happy we got a chance to hey, someone stole my my star thing to what the feel me.

[01:10:46] What was that? I was I was so ready for you to get that.

[01:10:49] I was so ready for you to get that.

[01:10:50] What is that? Hold on. I'm going back.

[01:10:52] You can't fail more than once.

[01:10:57] Sending OK, location confirmed sending supplies.

[01:11:00] There's the where's the where's the that was not fair.

[01:11:03] Someone stole it.

[01:11:05] You're like, oh, so it is.

[01:11:07] I missed it.

[01:11:08] Shoot it. Shoot it.

[01:11:09] I'm about to die. I'm about to die.

[01:11:11] And then I do the loop and it's not fair.

[01:11:15] It's not fair.

[01:11:16] It's awesome.

[01:11:20] Oh, really could use that.

[01:11:22] I think I could have used it because I'm thinking twice because I'm terrible.

[01:11:26] I do. I do have a final thought.

[01:11:28] I do have a final thought.

[01:11:30] You should play it with this.

[01:11:32] Yes. With an actual N64 controller.

[01:11:35] It really works really well with an actual proper N64 controller,

[01:11:39] whether that be the Nintendo wireless one for Switch Online.

[01:11:42] But I did play it a little bit with the pro controller and it just it feels icky.

[01:11:47] OK, it's it's not fair.

[01:11:50] It's not right there.

[01:11:52] You know what? I had a hard time breaking stuff.

[01:11:54] Yeah. When I when I played similarly because I mean, it's it's not a pro controller.

[01:11:58] But when I played it on Switch Online, I ended up just doing a handheld because it's like, OK,

[01:12:03] I'm not going to go find the dock and whatever most of my switch game gaming is handheld regardless.

[01:12:09] But I have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that the you know,

[01:12:14] the I don't know if it's is it the R or is it the Z or Zed is is that the sort of L2 L2

[01:12:22] and then the other one and then the R is is our one.

[01:12:25] Yeah. And I backwards. Yeah.

[01:12:28] It doesn't make why can't they both why can't they both be the same thing?

[01:12:31] I don't understand that.

[01:12:32] So I was trying to do like the hovering, for example, with the land on the land levels.

[01:12:37] And I'm just tilting and that's it.

[01:12:39] I'm just like, what the fuck? Where's the button?

[01:12:42] Like where is there's only two buttons here, but somehow I can't find the one that I need.

[01:12:46] And I don't know why because the ones on the back and the ones on the top and the side,

[01:12:50] like the bumper, like there's only three on the 64.

[01:12:53] And so they're yeah.

[01:12:55] So like Jiggy said, regardless of how you play it, I think if you have a chance to use an N64 control scheme

[01:13:01] and controller, it's it's the way to go for sure.

[01:13:05] It makes sense. It makes really bizarre like the joy con.

[01:13:09] It's like the left like rather than being like left and down is like the C buttons.

[01:13:14] It's like left is trying to map this out.

[01:13:18] It's like left is B or something.

[01:13:20] And then up is technically the left C stick or so.

[01:13:23] It's like really well, the C buttons are just the joystick.

[01:13:26] The C buttons are just the joystick.

[01:13:28] Yeah. So if you hold the R1 and you can use the face button,

[01:13:34] you can use the face buttons as the C button.

[01:13:37] Oh, that's what it is.

[01:13:38] You have to. Yeah.

[01:13:39] OK. Yeah.

[01:13:40] That's it.

[01:13:41] It's it feels gross because when you're using what you're if you're not using that,

[01:13:46] then you have like the boost is on top on the top button and the break is on the it.

[01:13:52] It's soup.

[01:13:53] It feels super wrong because when you're holding it in the 64 controller,

[01:13:56] you know, the button C button is break.

[01:13:59] And then, you know, the left one is boost.

[01:14:02] It's totally fine.

[01:14:04] I pulled up an image here.

[01:14:06] I pulled up an image with the Joy-Cons and B here.

[01:14:12] So B, A are normal.

[01:14:15] Right. And then this is this is left.

[01:14:18] So this will be your your X is left.

[01:14:21] Yeah. And then this is down.

[01:14:23] So this would be your break.

[01:14:25] Yeah. So the X button at the top would be your break.

[01:14:28] That's what it says.

[01:14:29] That's dumb.

[01:14:30] I just I just use the I just use the other joystick and that's it and just didn't mess around with other stuff.

[01:14:36] I just keep it simple.

[01:14:37] I know that for the most part, I need the break more than any of the other ones.

[01:14:42] I'll just hit down if I at least for me anyway.

[01:14:45] That's that's one of the ways that I did the all range mode levels is if you want to do that loop,

[01:14:50] I would hit the break to make a tighter turn as opposed to hitting boost and going faster and further.

[01:14:55] That's the way I used.

[01:14:56] I usually did it.

[01:14:57] That's my habit, at least whether it's the right way to do it or not.

[01:15:00] I'm most effective.

[01:15:01] I have no idea.

[01:15:02] But oh, no, use the bomb.

[01:15:05] Use the bomb.

[01:15:06] It's going to eat me there.

[01:15:07] And this is a scary boss.

[01:15:09] Oh, yeah.

[01:15:12] Look at those eyes.

[01:15:14] He is kind of scary.

[01:15:15] Yeah. And then when he does, it's the jowls.

[01:15:17] Yeah.

[01:15:18] They're just something wrong about it.

[01:15:22] Look at me going with no wings again.

[01:15:25] I'm resilient.

[01:15:26] I'm probably going to die.

[01:15:29] OK, so guys, thanks so much for for being a part of level 50 episode 50, the 50th.

[01:15:37] Well, I guess technically, yeah, 50th, 49th game that I've covered on the show.

[01:15:42] Remember, 64 will will be keep going.

[01:15:45] I don't know what the next like huge title is going to be, but Angela Kazooie banjo.

[01:15:50] Don't make any promises.

[01:15:52] I'm not.

[01:15:53] I'm not.

[01:15:54] You just it's going to happen.

[01:15:55] Sounded like you needed a suggestion.

[01:15:59] I just I just don't have the time right now.

[01:16:01] I want to.

[01:16:02] I want to.

[01:16:03] I want to.

[01:16:04] I want to.

[01:16:05] And if anyone's going to play that game, you haven't played that game.

[01:16:08] No.

[01:16:09] Oh, what?

[01:16:12] Mm hmm.

[01:16:13] That is definitely something you're going to have to be on the.

[01:16:15] Now at that point, I was like, I yeah, I don't think I was.

[01:16:20] Into it.

[01:16:21] To I wasn't playing a lot of like, you know, 3D platformers.

[01:16:25] I had beaten Mario 64.

[01:16:27] I got all 120 stars.

[01:16:29] I threw it in the closet and never wanted to see it again.

[01:16:33] Like it just pissed me off getting all 120 stars that I just didn't play any 3D platformers for a while.

[01:16:39] And then the first one I picked up was Donkey Kong 64.

[01:16:42] And now should I should have picked a banjo Kazooie instead?

[01:16:48] So for you and your specific podcast, yes, Banjo Kazooie is the one you should pick up.

[01:16:55] Although Donkey Kong 64 actually speed running is pretty dope.

[01:16:58] Donkey Kong 64 speed running is ridiculous.

[01:17:01] It is a lot of fun.

[01:17:02] There's just so much you have to do.

[01:17:04] Well, you can just do stupid things like like Lanky can bypass every level standard.

[01:17:10] Every boss fight you can just clip through the floor and get into.

[01:17:14] Lanky can stretch his hands out of bounds behind a door and hit the door trigger and go through the door.

[01:17:23] Watch the video someone like the angle, like off a certain ledge on DK Isle,

[01:17:28] and they just fly up into the sky and they can just like get to the end of the game.

[01:17:33] That game is busted.

[01:17:35] It's hilarious. Go watch some speed runs or go watch some explainer videos or something like that.

[01:17:41] Also, DK 64 randomizers are a lot of fun to watch.

[01:17:45] Oh, yeah. So many things to randomize.

[01:17:48] I don't comprehend what's happening, but it's funny to watch.

[01:17:52] I did a live stream and did a randomizer and it was so you have to utilize Lanky's like bypassing of level doors because you just.

[01:18:04] You go to warpad and you show up in like creepy castle.

[01:18:08] Like. I don't have any moves to do anything.

[01:18:12] What am I supposed to do?

[01:18:14] And then you rely on getting something from cranky and he gives you like ammo for your weapon.

[01:18:20] You don't even have this is great.

[01:18:23] Like two things randomizers often turn into like the hall of fame of speed running tricks for a game like you'll see things from Ocarina of Time that haven't been used since like 2007.

[01:18:37] Get pulled out to be like, well, I got to jump past this thing.

[01:18:41] I guess I can use this one thing that we use for like a month until we found a better way.

[01:18:46] So it's like seeing it's like the like the hall of like seeing the like old tricks that are dead now come back to life.

[01:18:53] That's fun. That's that's cool.

[01:18:55] Like that's yeah. And those those types of those those it's just it's all different anyways.

[01:19:03] Right. Like you're not you're not I mean, I guess in some ways you're you're going to see the same thing twice.

[01:19:07] But like you're yeah, I got a I should look I should look that up with this game with Star Fox.

[01:19:13] Never mind. It's probably lots lots of great stuff with that.

[01:19:17] The speed running speed runs for Star Fox.

[01:19:20] They are insane. Yeah, they are.

[01:19:23] I saw one race from games done quick.

[01:19:28] Yeah. Is that the big thing? Yeah. Yeah. And one. Yeah.

[01:19:32] The dude got like five hundred and something kills on sectors on area six.

[01:19:39] I was insane, insanity. It was crazy.

[01:19:44] What you end up doing is so anytime you kill multiple bad guys, yeah, you get extra.

[01:19:52] You get like an extra point on the end of that. Yeah.

[01:19:54] And the way you do that is by like shooting your charge shot, but then like trying to detonate it before it gets there.

[01:20:01] So it does more of an A.O.E. instead of taking out like one or two guys.

[01:20:06] You have to shoot it without locking and then you have to detonate it before.

[01:20:10] Oh, yeah. So it's crazy.

[01:20:13] And you just write like in sector Y or or area six, you just start cranking up the points.

[01:20:19] Damn. Yeah. OK. So I got to start doing that.

[01:20:22] I got a couple of metal. So now I want you always what I've always dreamed of getting all the metals, but I never did it.

[01:20:28] I was hard. Area six was the particular level. I could never get the metal.

[01:20:33] I think it was the last one I needed. I just could go to area six.

[01:20:37] You have to focus on the satellites as long as you get down all the satellites and the big ships.

[01:20:44] You're good. It's it's 300 and it's doable.

[01:20:48] You can pretty much hit it in the third act of the stage before the final boss fight.

[01:20:54] Hmm. Yeah. Well, I stuck.

[01:20:58] Well, I mean, I'm nodding, but I haven't done that since I was 12.

[01:21:03] So don't worry about it, man. Like, it's cool.

[01:21:07] I just I always wanted I never played, but I always wanted to unlock the on foot in multiplayer.

[01:21:12] Oh, yeah. That was like a childhood dream of mine.

[01:21:15] I've just never done it. I know it doesn't look very good.

[01:21:18] It looks awful. I've somehow shielded myself from seeing what it looked like until like the last month.

[01:21:26] Like my whole life, I've never looked it up or anything.

[01:21:29] I've just I've always kept it as that like childhood mystery that I just wanted to unlock.

[01:21:35] And then I saw it and Slippy was like running around. I'm like, wow, that looks like, yeah, it's funny.

[01:21:40] That's really like that's the best. Like unlocking that is funny.

[01:21:45] Yeah, that's really there for the shades. Right.

[01:21:50] Yeah, it's it's a fantastic game.

[01:21:53] Everyone should play it. Oh, and I just pretty much took out Slippy there.

[01:21:58] And as you do, as as as I do, even though I find him, I find him to be the most the most useful.

[01:22:07] It's comforting to know that I'm making progress on a boss.

[01:22:09] I think that's pretty much what it comes down to.

[01:22:11] I need I need a little bit of a little bit of a pat on the back.

[01:22:14] That kind of thing. Yeah. Yeah, there you go.

[01:22:16] That's all it is. Slippy is the boss. Slippy is the boss.

[01:22:20] So we have to save the boss. Yeah.

[01:22:22] Shoot him down.

[01:22:23] First and foremost, Chris, thanks so much for for being on the show, buddy.

[01:22:28] And I've been listening for a while and love your show.

[01:22:32] And I messaged like, hey, if ever, please consider me.

[01:22:35] And I'm happy that because I always love talking Star Fox, dude.

[01:22:38] Oh, awesome. And let's once you tell everybody about a little bit about a novel console.

[01:22:44] Yeah. So basically it's a show that I do with my wife.

[01:22:47] We talk about books, games and food and whatever catches our attention during the week.

[01:22:52] She reads the books. I play the games and then we try to make fun of everything.

[01:23:00] It's mostly childish adult stuff.

[01:23:05] So please don't let your little kids listen to it, because it would be really bad if little kids learn how to be people from us, because we are not meant to raise children.

[01:23:16] But yeah, no, we cover everything specifically.

[01:23:20] People love the garbage because that's where we go to restaurants and talk about the food, what's good, what's bad.

[01:23:27] And yeah, it's pretty much a novel console. Nice. Amazing, man.

[01:23:32] Mr. Luigi's apartment. What have you been up to lately? How are you?

[01:23:35] How's everything? How's how's how's the house? Hi.

[01:23:40] Hi, how are you?

[01:23:42] How are you?

[01:23:44] Thanks for coming back. We we just talked to Mario Tennis.

[01:23:47] So if anyone hasn't listened to that, Mario Tennis was just a couple of episodes ago.

[01:23:51] So that was a good time. Also play that game, especially if you have a few minutes to kill.

[01:23:56] That is an excellent time. So thanks for coming back.

[01:23:59] Yeah, you can find me these days over at Need For Speedrunning to show I make with a couple of my friends from Games Done Quick and my buddy Brad.

[01:24:08] We look at like kind of the watchability of different speed runs on the main episodes.

[01:24:14] We do commentaries on speed runs and be like, you know, how it would feel to someone who is either just getting into speed running or knows a little bit about the game or like what would this run be like?

[01:24:27] You know, how legible is it really?

[01:24:29] Like, can you tell what people are doing?

[01:24:32] Is this too much information and kind of dig into that, you know, from that angle and then sometimes take apart 10 hour long Final Fantasy 10 runs.

[01:24:42] So yeah, come check out Need For Speedrunning speed runs are fun.

[01:24:47] Video games are cool. I don't know. You're cool.

[01:24:50] You're all very cool people. So thank you. Oh my God.

[01:24:53] I was talking to listeners, but you're cool, Dave. Oh, oh, I was just taking it for myself.

[01:24:58] I just like I said, I need that support, man.

[01:25:01] I need that support. You deserve it.

[01:25:03] I need that love.

[01:25:04] Jiggy, what's up, man? How's things going so far?

[01:25:07] What are you up to? Oh, things are going great.

[01:25:10] Just the usual grind.

[01:25:12] Got a cool DK 64 video coming out, going over.

[01:25:17] I did a cool collab with a fellow DK 64 defender on YouTube and we're doing some DK 64 mysteries.

[01:25:27] Oh, mystery. Oh yeah. Is it like Clue?

[01:25:31] Is it a murder mystery? Well, did you find Dixie?

[01:25:35] Did you find Dixie? Yes, please.

[01:25:39] We didn't find Dixie, but we did.

[01:25:41] We did cover some things that people probably have never thought about.

[01:25:47] OK. And some things that people have thought about and been very curious about.

[01:25:51] But sometimes I'm like, am I the only person in the world that has ever thought about this?

[01:25:57] And I'm happy to say that when I put out these videos, people come out of the woodwork and they're like,

[01:26:01] I've always wondered about that too.

[01:26:03] I'm like, great. My people, finally.

[01:26:08] DK 64, man.

[01:26:13] Jiggy, look back on YouTube is where you can find all that stuff and...

[01:26:18] Oh yeah, thanks. Yeah, no worries, man. I gotcha.

[01:26:22] I always forget about stuff too, like I did already with this episode to plug the show at the beginning.

[01:26:27] Remember 64's show across the board on social media and on Patreon as well.

[01:26:32] That's where you can support the show and help us do 50 or 150 or 250 or however many times you want to hear me ramble on about this.

[01:26:42] I think we're starting to run out of games at that point. Yeah.

[01:26:45] Yeah, there's 80 somewhere around. Yeah, two. Yeah, I guess around 280.

[01:26:48] Yeah, I was gonna say 280 something. Yeah.

[01:26:50] Isn't the library 388? OK, maybe. OK. I'm pretty sure it's 388.

[01:26:55] That's a very specific number, but I'm calling the 80.

[01:26:58] I'm calling the middle number as an 8. As an 8. That's what I'm going for.

[01:27:01] Yeah, and I think that includes Japanese ones too.

[01:27:05] 388. 388 sounds right. Yeah.

[01:27:08] I think... I'll see if I survive that long. I think Japanese released products at 394.

[01:27:12] I'm pretty sure. I'm never gonna make it.

[01:27:15] I'm gonna be in the ground by then. There's no way.

[01:27:18] And if we cover more mods. Oh man.

[01:27:21] And if we cover more mods, something we want to keep doing. Yeah, exactly.

[01:27:24] That's right. Because so far, you know, we've had Smash Remix as an episode too.

[01:27:28] Like that's... That's important. It's cool stuff.

[01:27:31] Yeah, it's... You gotta do Dragon Ball Kart.

[01:27:35] Oh, shit. Well, you know, one of the things that one of the games to play is obviously Doom 64.

[01:27:43] And Doom is like just the modded game. I know not maybe not specifically Doom 64,

[01:27:48] but there's mods in every aspect of Doom you can think of.

[01:27:52] So that's one of the ones that like you just kind of have to do like certain games.

[01:27:56] It's just... You have to.

[01:27:58] You have to follow it up with some sort of, you know, the mod community,

[01:28:01] just like the speed running community is huge and thriving and awesome and does cool things.

[01:28:07] Like that's... It's important to sort of talk about that stuff too, right? So it's fun.

[01:28:14] Let me say I have been doing some community game nights.

[01:28:18] And recently we did Super Mario 64 Co-op Deluxe.

[01:28:23] And that was amazing.

[01:28:26] And we did hide and seek and we made our own rules.

[01:28:29] Like you go into a level and I was getting...

[01:28:32] It was getting so in depth because you can change your character's color palette.

[01:28:35] And so I would go stand in Bob-omb Battlefield like against the wall

[01:28:39] and change Mario to like the orange palette of the wall.

[01:28:43] Just be like flat against it. It was awesome.

[01:28:47] So much fun.

[01:28:49] Yeah, so like stuff like that is great.

[01:28:51] I mean you're not going to... We wouldn't have...

[01:28:53] We would not have been able to experience that back in the day.

[01:28:56] Why not revisit these? You know what I mean?

[01:28:58] Like it's a really cool way to revisit the game,

[01:29:02] not just play the game itself but what people have done with them after that.

[01:29:05] So that's everything that we're going to keep covering on Remember 64.

[01:29:09] Gentlemen, thank you so much for joining me.

[01:29:12] Go play, Chris, go play Star Fox again for another 65 times if...

[01:29:17] Oh, dude. I did it right before we started

[01:29:21] and I'm pretty sure that I'm going to go back to it once we get off this call.

[01:29:24] Honestly, I think I am too. I think I might.

[01:29:26] I think I might. I'm going to shoot for a couple of medals over the next couple of weeks.

[01:29:29] I think that's my goal. It's too hard.

[01:29:31] Like you said, it's just too easy and it's just too fun to not go do it.

[01:29:35] So all right, guys. Thanks so much for joining me.

[01:29:37] Thanks for being on the show.

[01:29:38] Just like your father.

[01:29:39] And just like your father.

[01:29:41] Thank you, everyone, for listening.

[01:29:43] We'll see you next time on Remember 64.
