All three of us played an assortment of spoopy games and we talked about them, including Luigi's Mansion 2, Bayonetta Origins, and Pools. Then we talked about Masahiro Sakurai's YouTube channel coming to an end, The Addams Family menu at Burger King, a candy quiz game, and so much more on this week's Big Deal. Enjoy!

[01:34:12] Bye!

[00:00:00] Alright Andre and Kevin, I know you guys aren't usually about it, but I got some primo materials from the Game Freak leaks and uh...

[00:00:07] Oh no. Oh no.

[00:00:10] Um, uh, you know what? Never mind.

[00:00:14] Wait a second, what's in there? I wanna see! Tell me!

[00:00:17] No, no, no, no, no.

[00:00:19] The Back to the Lake Every Day? The Same Lake Every Day? No!

[00:00:23] Show me!

[00:00:24] Start the show!

[00:00:29] Step into Video Game Land.

[00:00:32] Welcome to Fine Time!

[00:00:56] Hello, party people. It's your boy Dre. Hello, spoopy people. Kevin, do you feel spoopy today?

[00:01:04] Mmm, like 67% spoopy today.

[00:01:10] What is your percentage of spoopy today, Steve?

[00:01:15] Oh, it's in the higher percentile, I would say.

[00:01:18] Can I have a number for the people?

[00:01:23] Oh, I don't know. 80.

[00:01:27] 80? Hmm.

[00:01:28] You ask them like there's the listeners at home going like, goddammit, Steve, I need to know.

[00:01:33] Oh, I need to know, and if I need to know, the audience is going to know, and that's how the show works.

[00:01:40] Okay?

[00:01:42] Boy, my whims and desires are foisted upon the audience.

[00:01:46] I thought you guys knew this already.

[00:01:47] Good. Well, I'm glad we don't have any dummies at home sitting like assuming high percentile is,

[00:01:52] is Steve is only at a 60 spoopy today.

[00:01:54] I don't know, like when I hear like high percentile, I think like 97% or something like that.

[00:01:59] I think like super high, personally.

[00:02:02] See, I would have assumed like 80 to 100.

[00:02:05] So 80 is on the lower end, but sure.

[00:02:08] Okay.

[00:02:09] I mean, I'm not the guy that's sticking out the sign that says, I don't celebrate Halloween.

[00:02:14] Go away.

[00:02:16] What kind of grouch, what kind of absolute misanthrope do you have to be?

[00:02:20] Like Halloween is great, man.

[00:02:22] Probably one of those ladies that keeps coming to my door every few weeks saying, man, have you heard about Jesus?

[00:02:28] And then I have to stand there with the dog, with butter and tell going, yes, we have a Jesus.

[00:02:33] We know.

[00:02:33] Thanks.

[00:02:34] Go away.

[00:02:37] Do you guys have Halloween decorations up at your places?

[00:02:40] I do.

[00:02:42] Okay, good.

[00:02:43] Yeah.

[00:02:44] On the street I live, it's pretty much all apartment building.

[00:02:46] So everyone has their window with like orange lights and shit or little, you know, pumpkins and shit.

[00:02:52] But yeah, we get in the spirit around here.

[00:02:54] Good.

[00:02:55] Good.

[00:02:55] Yeah.

[00:02:56] Okay.

[00:02:57] I guess we should talk.

[00:02:58] Did we all play spoopy games?

[00:03:00] Kevin, I know you did.

[00:03:01] It is a little more on like the Casper side of spoopy games, but I want to hear about yours first.

[00:03:08] I don't know.

[00:03:09] I was scared.

[00:03:10] Okay.

[00:03:11] Tell me all about it.

[00:03:12] Yeah.

[00:03:13] Well, I mean, I was scared and I was feeling a little bit nostalgic because when October rolled around this year, do you guys remember when we very first started working on our previous creative endeavor?

[00:03:23] One of the very first things we all played was Luigi's Mansion 3.

[00:03:26] And it was right around this time of year.

[00:03:28] And I was just looking back fondly on that playthrough of Luigi's Mansion 3.

[00:03:32] And so I wanted to scratch that same itch.

[00:03:34] So I decided to pick up Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, which I completely ignored when it came out.

[00:03:40] I feel like October would have been the time to release that, not like July or whenever it was earlier this year.

[00:03:46] And I didn't know how, like it was mostly because I wanted to scratch that itch because I actually picked that game up on 3DS when it came out and I never finished it.

[00:03:57] And I couldn't really remember why I lost interest on it.

[00:04:00] And also full disclosure, I have not finished it yet.

[00:04:03] I am, I believe there are five mansions in that.

[00:04:07] Is that right or is there six?

[00:04:09] I do not remember.

[00:04:11] Do you remember, Steve?

[00:04:12] Not offhand.

[00:04:13] No, sorry.

[00:04:13] Okay, I want to say there's five and I'm almost done the third.

[00:04:17] So I'm a ways in, but I'm not done.

[00:04:21] And to be honest, it kind of like has felt like a slog to go and pick it up each time I go to play.

[00:04:29] So mostly what I'm going to be doing is bitching about this game.

[00:04:32] Preemptive warning.

[00:04:34] Can I say I played it on 3DS myself whenever I got a 3DS on Black Friday 2016, I think.

[00:04:41] And I tried it and I was like, I don't, I kind of felt the same way.

[00:04:45] I played like a couple of dungeons, a couple of mansions.

[00:04:48] And I was like, I'm not, I'm not feeling it.

[00:04:51] But I wondered if it was me, but I guess it's not me because you feel the same way even after this revisit.

[00:04:57] Yeah.

[00:04:58] What about you, Steve?

[00:04:58] Did you, how did you like, how do you remember your time playing that?

[00:05:01] Because you did, you played it on 3DS, correct?

[00:05:03] Yeah.

[00:05:03] And I played it in 2014.

[00:05:05] I got it in 2013, but you know, waited a year later and I had a ball with it.

[00:05:11] But maybe I need to go back and be wrong too.

[00:05:15] We'll find out.

[00:05:16] Fuck.

[00:05:17] I was wrong about Luigi's Mansion 2.

[00:05:19] I was kind of wondering if it was just me.

[00:05:21] I went on Metacritic the other day and I think like the original got like mid 80s.

[00:05:24] So it wasn't hated.

[00:05:26] But I think for me, number one, the biggest crime is like in multiple ways, it shits on

[00:05:35] the best part of the Luigi's Mansion formula.

[00:05:38] And that's the mansion exploring, like going through, you know, exploring, finding interesting

[00:05:45] shit, working your way through it.

[00:05:47] And the biggest, the biggest issue here is the mission structure.

[00:05:50] So if you're not familiar, even in each of the individual mansions, there are five, you

[00:05:56] know, quote unquote missions, and then kind of a final one where you fight a boss.

[00:06:00] And that's the, that's the prescribed structure for everyone.

[00:06:03] Each mission takes maybe like 15 to 30 ish minutes.

[00:06:11] Um, and I think that was just a massive mistake because I feel like it throws such a wrench

[00:06:16] into the pacing.

[00:06:17] It's ruining my exploring, you know, I'm finding cool new areas and making some progress.

[00:06:22] And then, you know, all of a sudden he gads like I got to fucking zap you into my pixel

[00:06:27] later thing and put you back into the menu screens and give you a ranking on your mission

[00:06:31] and then put you back at the start of the fucking mansion.

[00:06:35] And now given you're going to probably go a different route through the mansion that time,

[00:06:39] but it just feels so jarring.

[00:06:41] Also, while I'm talking about EGAD, holy fucking Christ, I wish he would shut the fuck up in

[00:06:49] this game.

[00:06:50] Oh my God.

[00:06:50] And like, I've never had a problem with it, but like he phones all the fucking time.

[00:06:56] He's like an obsessed psychotic ex-girlfriend.

[00:06:59] Um, you know, I really liked the Game Boy horror in the first, but you have the like

[00:07:04] fucking, I don't, I don't care enough to remember the name, the spooky DS.

[00:07:08] And I want to break it in half because he seems like he designs his calls to choreograph them

[00:07:14] to be as invasive and inconvenient as fucking possible.

[00:07:16] It's super annoying.

[00:07:18] That sounds awful.

[00:07:19] And you know, I hate that shit.

[00:07:21] So if you do, you, if you hate it, then see, I don't remember that part of it.

[00:07:24] Um, I was probably annoyed by that at the time, but like it's, yeah, it's like just literally

[00:07:30] to the point when I'm playing it and it's, it's worse near the start of the game, but

[00:07:33] where I'm like, like audibly being like, Oh my fucking God, please stop.

[00:07:38] I'm trying to play the game.

[00:07:39] Um, that is, that's crazy.

[00:07:41] Yeah.

[00:07:42] It's frustrating.

[00:07:43] And second, I, I, I wish they did do one large mansion and I know they were trying to

[00:07:47] do something different here.

[00:07:48] I don't think this would have been as big of a deal without the mission structure.

[00:07:52] Um, I, and I would have been, you know, I okay with just exploring five mansions separately

[00:07:58] if I could have done them as a continuous gameplay loop in each, but like both of these things

[00:08:03] on top of each other really compound this problem of like pacing and flow that I'm having.

[00:08:08] Um, so that's, that's definitely the biggest issue with the game.

[00:08:11] There's a few other things, the puzzles, like I, I actually, when I was doing the notes for

[00:08:17] the show, I kind of like sat and debated and I landed, I feel bad saying this cause it

[00:08:21] just seems a little overly offensive, but I would call them lazy and sometimes stupid.

[00:08:27] Um, because, because I mean, I don't, I don't want to, I'm trying not to be like over, I'm

[00:08:34] not, I'm trying not to like ham it up too much.

[00:08:36] Um, but there are a lot of things that are reduced to like, just go everywhere in the

[00:08:41] area you have access to right now and shine that colorful light bulb until you find a hidden

[00:08:46] door or a hidden like thing.

[00:08:48] And, and so there was one point in specific and I got stuck as fuck.

[00:08:54] I spent like 20, 25 minutes, like with a fairly limited amount of rooms that I could be looking

[00:08:59] through, could not figure out what to do.

[00:09:01] I'm blowing the vacuum.

[00:09:02] I'm sucking with the vacuum.

[00:09:03] I'm doing the white light.

[00:09:04] I'm doing the colorful light.

[00:09:07] Eventually after like systematically working my way through, I found out, I just didn't,

[00:09:11] I shined the colorful light at a blank wall earlier, but I guess I just wasn't quite close

[00:09:17] enough because I know I shined that fucking light right at that fucking wall.

[00:09:21] But I, but, and then all of a sudden, so then nothing shows up.

[00:09:24] So I'm like working my way meticulously through everything.

[00:09:27] Eventually when I go and try it again, closer than the fucking hidden door shows up.

[00:09:31] And it's just like, I mean, it's not, again, this isn't that bad, but it's just, there's,

[00:09:36] there's too many puzzles where I just feel like they could have like done something a little

[00:09:39] bit more thought out and engaging with it.

[00:09:43] So that's kind of the problem.

[00:09:44] If you don't have the one big mansion structure, you can't have all these like, okay, I got

[00:09:52] this key.

[00:09:52] I'm going to go over here for that.

[00:09:54] Like you can do that to some degree, but if you're going to have these like five or six

[00:09:58] small spaces, it's just not going to be nearly as engaging in that regard.

[00:10:02] And to me, that's the soul of Luigi's mansion.

[00:10:05] As I was listening to you talk about this, I think I realized that's the sucky part.

[00:10:10] Like the stuff you mentioned sucks too, but like, I think Luigi's mansion simply does not

[00:10:15] work in this format.

[00:10:16] I guess I'm, I guess they just didn't want to do the big mansion thing again, but it's

[00:10:21] like, Hey, Luigi's mansion three kind of just proved that you can just do that.

[00:10:27] So I don't know, man.

[00:10:29] I, I just, the, the, the, the structure of the game demands something lesser than the

[00:10:34] first.

[00:10:35] Missions were probably born from it being on 3ds, but now that it's on a console, that

[00:10:40] doesn't matter anymore.

[00:10:41] So that's going to be more apparent today.

[00:10:44] Yeah.

[00:10:45] And that's, so that's, that's a good segue to a point I was going to bring up later.

[00:10:50] This is one of the more frustrating things to me that, I mean, there's a difference like

[00:10:56] porting an HD version of a 3ds game than just, you know, them doing like a Wii U port.

[00:11:01] I feel like there had to have been like a certain amount of effort and budget that went

[00:11:05] into this.

[00:11:06] Not, not, I mean, and it's not like they added a ton of features.

[00:11:09] I don't think from the 3ds original, but just by virtue of taking a 3ds game and trying

[00:11:13] to make it into a like HD game on switch, you know, there had to be some effort and budget

[00:11:19] that went into that.

[00:11:20] And it's like, I can, I feel like there's gotta be so many better candidates for that

[00:11:27] kind of treatment.

[00:11:27] Even if we want to talk like specifically on 3ds, I feel like this, this probably just

[00:11:34] didn't deserve it enough because it's, I don't know.

[00:11:38] It feels like kind of dated and, and especially with Luigi's Mansion 3 being out.

[00:11:44] So I, I question why this got a switch port.

[00:11:47] Because Luigi's Mansion 3 sold like 15 fucking million copies.

[00:11:51] It did so well, way beyond anybody's expectations.

[00:11:54] It's like, okay, we're not going to have a Luigi's Mansion.

[00:11:57] We definitely don't have another one ready, but we've got to strike on this.

[00:12:01] And I think that's what they're thinking here.

[00:12:03] It's the only reason I think for this port.

[00:12:04] Luigi's Mansion 3 deserved it.

[00:12:06] Like that was a fucking great game.

[00:12:08] Well, yeah, this though, I think they're just capitalizing on the fact that like, hey, we

[00:12:12] had this big unexpected hit.

[00:12:14] Let's try to have something else here.

[00:12:16] Then the answer may have been to just do Luigi's Mansion 1 and 2, like they did last

[00:12:22] year for Pikmin 1 and 2.

[00:12:24] I would have probably bought that.

[00:12:27] I never get tired of the original Luigi's Mansion.

[00:12:31] So I, I feel like I would have done that.

[00:12:34] Hell, just give it to me at 60.

[00:12:36] That's all I really, really want.

[00:12:38] And don't tell me they can't do that because of game logic.

[00:12:41] Everybody remember that shot.

[00:12:42] You know, it's one of my favorite fucking shots in video games.

[00:12:45] Remember the part where his hand is going up on the doorknob to like turn it and you

[00:12:49] see the reflection of his hand.

[00:12:51] It was Mickey Mouse has hand.

[00:12:52] That shit's at 60, man.

[00:12:54] They did that on purpose.

[00:12:55] That's the only part of the game that is like, come on now.

[00:13:00] Give it to me.

[00:13:01] I'm glad.

[00:13:01] I'm glad you went there because that actually, that gives me another really good seg to another

[00:13:06] point I wanted to bring up.

[00:13:07] Now, this is almost my biggest critique, but I know it is like by far hands down my stupidest

[00:13:13] one.

[00:13:14] But this actually is like kind of sticking in my craw a little bit.

[00:13:16] You know how in the first one, when you pick up a key, you get that there's like a very

[00:13:21] specific sound effect.

[00:13:22] It's just, yeah, like, and it's like really bouncy and good.

[00:13:27] You get like a weak ass little bitch ass chime in this game.

[00:13:33] And every single fucking time I'm like, no, please.

[00:13:36] Like I can hear it in my head and I just, I just want to experience how it's so insignificant

[00:13:40] that I actually don't remember if that sound effect was in number three, if they brought

[00:13:45] it back.

[00:13:46] But it's, it's like very clearly missed here.

[00:13:49] Three has so much more going for it though, that it's like, okay, if it doesn't have that

[00:13:53] than like, okay, but like, man, um, yeah, it's, it's, it's interesting.

[00:14:02] If someone were to ask me what you thought of Luigi's mansion too, before we started the

[00:14:06] show here, I would have actually just said you would like it because like everyone seems

[00:14:10] to not everyone, but it seems to be well liked and I just don't understand why.

[00:14:15] So.

[00:14:16] Yeah.

[00:14:16] And, and again, that's like, like to steal an Andre ism it's all fucking cave.

[00:14:21] Like I'm not hating my time as I'm playing this.

[00:14:25] It's, it's not excruciating the, the phone calls from EGAD get excessive for the most

[00:14:29] part.

[00:14:29] Like it kind of is scratching that itch just from like that aesthetic, you know, all of

[00:14:34] these games.

[00:14:35] I love like, just, just like Luigi's bright clothes and like, you know, the cartoony ghosts

[00:14:40] and the lighting and the like dark mansions and stuff.

[00:14:43] So it's, I'm, I'm not hating playing it.

[00:14:45] It just feels very disappointing after playing three and it's, it's made me appreciate three

[00:14:51] that much more because three really did address like every single one of these issues other

[00:14:56] than maybe the, the key picking up sound effect.

[00:14:59] I think if three had, and maybe this is a switch problem, but I think if three had better

[00:15:05] lighting and environments, it's not that it's bad.

[00:15:08] It's just that that's the strength of the original game is that the light it's some of the most

[00:15:13] perfect lighting I've ever seen real time and baked.

[00:15:16] Right.

[00:15:17] I feel like if three had that, it would be like absolutely stupidness.

[00:15:21] Maybe we'll have to wait till 2050 for a remaster or something, but like, but yeah, I just,

[00:15:27] I, um, yeah, three is three is a pretty good game and I've never understood why people like

[00:15:32] two, I guess Steve did.

[00:15:34] I, well, again, I played two when two was the only one, well, not the only one.

[00:15:40] It was this, it was the new Luigi's mansion.

[00:15:42] Okay.

[00:15:43] I didn't think we'd ever see a Luigi's mansion three in 2014, obviously.

[00:15:47] So of course this is good.

[00:15:49] Now Luigi's mansions three exists.

[00:15:53] I played that.

[00:15:54] Could I still like Luigi's mansion too?

[00:15:56] I don't know.

[00:15:57] I'm going to have to try again.

[00:15:58] I feel like it's just a product of the era.

[00:16:03] And I know this always sounds like fucking elitist of me.

[00:16:07] Like where people just accepted a lot less from Nintendo back then.

[00:16:11] I mean, especially given that it was on like the dedicated handheld then I think then it

[00:16:15] was a little bit more okay.

[00:16:17] Cause it's not on like the premium shiny thing.

[00:16:19] Exactly.

[00:16:29] I think I'm Luigi though, but I got some unrelated tidbits.

[00:16:33] First of all, I have an admission to make.

[00:16:36] I'm a sick freak and I have no self-restraint.

[00:16:39] Last show we talked about the alarm.

[00:16:42] Oh, I think we all just kind of made fun of it.

[00:16:44] And then all of a sudden the morning after we recorded, I got this like massive pit in

[00:16:49] my stomach where it's like, I kind of need to have an alarm.

[00:16:52] Oh, I don't know why, but just because it's like, you know, it's like rounded and bright

[00:16:57] red and it's got a little Mario that runs back and forth.

[00:17:00] My first thought was, you know, I thought to myself, first of all, I'll get it and I

[00:17:06] will review the alarms for fine time.

[00:17:08] Then we can use it for a tax write-off for all of our vast expenses for fine time and all

[00:17:12] the taxes we pay, et cetera.

[00:17:14] But the problem also is that I wake up very early in the morning and if, you know, Mario

[00:17:21] was like jumping, hitting blocks or whatever the fuck, well, my wife is still supposed

[00:17:25] to be sleeping for another two and a half hours, she would cut my dick off.

[00:17:29] So there is no alarm review.

[00:17:31] I'm not, this is literally a $100 like just time piece that will sit on my desk so I can

[00:17:39] watch Mario run back and forth occasionally.

[00:17:41] Hey, it might be a good paperweight too.

[00:17:44] Yeah.

[00:17:45] Well, if I have papers to wait, it's fucking right here.

[00:17:49] So I love that he said it's, it's, it's round and red.

[00:17:53] That, that was what your monkey brain did.

[00:17:55] Ooh, it's round and red.

[00:17:58] The thing on top lights up different colors.

[00:18:04] It's round and red.

[00:18:06] Oh man.

[00:18:07] It's gotta be mine.

[00:18:09] And to be honest, it really got me where like in the days before it was coming, like I was

[00:18:13] going, I had the tracking number from Nintendo.

[00:18:15] So I would go and be like, oh, it's enrichment today.

[00:18:18] Like, when's it going to be here?

[00:18:19] When's it going to be here?

[00:18:20] Oh, it left, it left the sorting center in Edmonton.

[00:18:23] And then the day it got here, you know, as soon as I was done work, I'm like, well, I

[00:18:26] got to run down to the post office wife because, you know, maybe we have something important.

[00:18:30] I really wanted my round red alarm clock.

[00:18:32] So I just, uh, yeah.

[00:18:35] Hey, look, I just got a new phone.

[00:18:37] Okay.

[00:18:37] I did the same thing.

[00:18:38] Ooh, it's in, uh, it's in West Sacramento.

[00:18:41] We're getting close.

[00:18:42] Right.

[00:18:42] Yeah.

[00:18:43] So, uh, I mean, a phone is a little bit more justifiable than this thing.

[00:18:46] I'm literally just going to find out what time it is on.

[00:18:49] Andre's going to use the phone.

[00:18:52] I am a sick man sometimes.

[00:18:54] So, um, also one other little tidbit, and I just thought this was interesting.

[00:18:58] So just yesterday I was at the thrift store, um, and do you got, I talked about Mario, uh,

[00:19:04] Mario cart live, uh, home circuit back when it came out.

[00:19:08] Um, and I found another Mario, I wish it was a Luigi.

[00:19:12] So I would have had one of each, but I found a Mario for only $3.

[00:19:16] It was a little broken.

[00:19:17] So I spent some time this morning with some clamps and some super glue.

[00:19:20] I've got it in, in nice shape works just fine.

[00:19:22] And so me and the kids earlier today set up a track in the basement and raced both the

[00:19:28] Mario carts against each other.

[00:19:30] Um, it was a fucking disaster.

[00:19:32] Oh my God.

[00:19:34] Well, for one, we use like, like, cause the kids are like, well, we need to build a physical

[00:19:39] track.

[00:19:40] Um, so they use these little things that they make forts out of.

[00:19:43] So they're just high enough that you can get the carts high centered.

[00:19:45] And when you have two carts, like bashing into each other around the track, they like

[00:19:51] it was, it was carnage.

[00:19:54] Wow.

[00:19:54] So, you know, maybe, maybe somebody with a bigger space and more experienced, uh, racers

[00:20:00] to play with might've had less problems.

[00:20:02] But, um, yeah, if, if anybody has been waiting like two years for the multiplayer review of

[00:20:08] Mario cart live home circuit, not great at my house, but your mileage.

[00:20:14] Excellent.

[00:20:14] Three minute review of Mario cart.

[00:20:16] I forgot that.

[00:20:16] I always forget what it's called.

[00:20:18] Mario cart live.

[00:20:19] I forgot.

[00:20:20] That's what the name was.

[00:20:22] Yeah.

[00:20:22] I had to, I had to, I had to, um, literally Google it the other day when we were talking

[00:20:27] about, cause I couldn't remember either.

[00:20:28] So.

[00:20:29] Well, if you remember, I want to say like 10 ish years ago, they made those actual Mario

[00:20:33] cart RC cars, you know, where you had like Mario or Yoshi or the Wii.

[00:20:38] And I always wanted one of those, even though I was like out on Nintendo at that time, because

[00:20:42] like growing up, I loved RC cars.

[00:20:45] I love them.

[00:20:45] Shit.

[00:20:46] So that was like one of my favorite things to play with.

[00:20:48] So I'm like, oh man, I would love a little, uh, toad RC car, but I never, I never did

[00:20:53] get one.

[00:20:54] I've got a few of those too, but again, always from the thrift store, never with the

[00:20:58] controller.

[00:20:58] So lots of paperweights around.

[00:21:02] They don't use like, I'm sure it was before the era where they use like a smartphone app

[00:21:05] or something or.

[00:21:06] No.

[00:21:07] Yeah.

[00:21:07] I'm sure.

[00:21:07] I'm sure they don't.

[00:21:09] DIY something for them.

[00:21:11] I don't know.

[00:21:12] I've never like thought about it that much.

[00:21:14] I'm sure if you like figured out what the band is and maybe, I don't know if you have,

[00:21:19] maybe.

[00:21:20] Yeah.

[00:21:20] I don't know.

[00:21:21] It's definitely possible, but I haven't, uh, I haven't got up the vigor to think too hard

[00:21:26] about it yet.

[00:21:30] All right, Steve, who should go?

[00:21:33] Who should go next?

[00:21:34] I know what you're going to, you know what?

[00:21:36] I'll go last.

[00:21:37] I never go last.

[00:21:38] I feel I want to go last, you know, like on, um, DMX, God bless his soul.

[00:21:44] He used to, whenever he was on songs with two or more people, he would always want to

[00:21:47] go last for some reason.

[00:21:49] He always wanted the last verse.

[00:21:51] I don't know why, but I'm pulling a DMX today.

[00:21:54] Hey, Steve, you go next.

[00:21:55] Okay.

[00:21:59] Nothing, nothing, Kevin, nothing.

[00:22:01] He gives me nothing.

[00:22:02] It's definitely not how DMX would have answered that question.

[00:22:06] He's not channeling his, his, his inner DMX for sure.

[00:22:09] I mean, my God, like.

[00:22:11] That's why you're, that's why you're going middle this week, Steve.

[00:22:14] Yeah.

[00:22:14] That's why you're going second.

[00:22:15] You are not DMX.

[00:22:18] Okay.

[00:22:22] I don't have time to dissect all of that.

[00:22:27] Give me some.

[00:22:28] His poor therapist this week when he walks in and he's like, I could afford a real existential

[00:22:34] crisis.

[00:22:35] I am not DMX.

[00:22:40] He has the same haircut though as DMX.

[00:22:44] He's got that guy, I guess.

[00:22:48] All right, folks.

[00:22:49] I'm giving our podcast a good old existential crisis this week because I played Bayonetta

[00:22:54] Origins, Cereza and the Lost Demon.

[00:22:58] Ooh, ah, scary.

[00:22:59] Oh no.

[00:23:00] Run for the hell.

[00:23:00] I do remember when this was announced and both of you guys like shit talked at hardcore.

[00:23:05] So I'm especially interested to see how this.

[00:23:07] You know why though?

[00:23:09] Well, yes.

[00:23:11] Why don't we start off with a nice little preamble for everyone at home?

[00:23:15] You might remember if you were following us this whole time, the tail end of our first

[00:23:20] year where me and Andre were excited as shit to have Bayonetta 3 come out.

[00:23:24] We were going to have our own Bayonetta 3 post-game episode teed up.

[00:23:29] All you have to come on here and go, well, it was oh fucking K.

[00:23:34] But everyone was very, very confused as to what kind of game they were making.

[00:23:38] And also the frame rate was, you know, very kind of shitty.

[00:23:42] The frame rate was a suggestion.

[00:23:44] Definitely not a target.

[00:23:46] And if you were listening to us back then, hey, thanks a bunch.

[00:23:51] Yeah, thanks.

[00:23:52] And if not, you should have seen our faces when Kevin, as he just said, you know, when at

[00:23:59] the game awards, they called this, not this game, Bayonetta 3 action game of the year.

[00:24:06] You know, when TMNT shredders revenge was right fucking there pouring its little heart

[00:24:11] out.

[00:24:12] I think, I think I texted you in all caps, get completely the fuck out of here.

[00:24:18] I believe those were my words.

[00:24:20] It was something like that.

[00:24:21] And you, and it was very obvious that they did that as a very flimsy segue to show off

[00:24:27] this game.

[00:24:28] Now, I don't think I hated this game outright.

[00:24:31] I know Andre hated it immediately, but I know for a fact that we were both like after

[00:24:38] Bayonetta 3, I don't think we're going to necessarily jump into whatever our platinum is going to

[00:24:43] do right now.

[00:24:45] And we didn't.

[00:24:46] And after Babylon's, don't forget about Babylon's fall.

[00:24:49] Like they were coming off a string of like stuff where I'm like, guys, I don't know what

[00:24:53] you're doing right now.

[00:24:54] And we didn't, it came out that March or April and we did not play it.

[00:25:01] And you know, without a discount, I sure didn't Andre definitely didn't.

[00:25:05] And then one day earlier this year, or it might've been last year, even Woot.

[00:25:09] Yeah.

[00:25:09] There's a website called Woot and they were out there.

[00:25:12] Hey, here it is for 25 bucks.

[00:25:16] That was enough to have me shrug my shoulders and go.

[00:25:19] Yeah.

[00:25:19] All right.

[00:25:20] Fine.

[00:25:20] That's enough.

[00:25:21] I guess I'll buy it for that.

[00:25:22] Hold on.

[00:25:23] Hold on.

[00:25:24] Is this to insinuate?

[00:25:25] You have a physical copy of this game.

[00:25:28] Yeah.

[00:25:29] Oh boy.

[00:25:30] Okay.

[00:25:31] Okay.

[00:25:32] So origins.

[00:25:34] Well, yeah, it's in, it's in the title, but you are playing as a 10 to 12 year old

[00:25:38] Cereza before she is fully realized all her witchy powers as the Bayonetta.

[00:25:43] I am sorry to ruin the first game for everyone who has not played Bayonetta one.

[00:25:49] The Bayonetta.

[00:25:53] You will be going through a very deliberately told story.

[00:25:57] That means it's going to take a while to get going, but it's very beautifully told.

[00:26:02] There's a very good narrator in this game of Cereza wanting to impress her maternal figurehead by going to the fairy forest as beckoned by a boy in her dream who promises her power.

[00:26:13] If she goes in there in the fairy forest and finds the doodads and brings them to a special place.

[00:26:19] What could possibly go wrong?

[00:26:21] You guys.

[00:26:22] Oh no.

[00:26:22] No, but I know what Andre really wants to talk about the performance.

[00:26:29] Please tell me about it.

[00:26:30] It's a special occasion.

[00:26:31] I'm happy to talk about the performance right now because I'm waiting.

[00:26:34] I've been waiting.

[00:26:35] I've been waiting almost three years of the show for this.

[00:26:38] Please give it to me.

[00:26:39] We, we, we, I know I don't normally want to talk about it, but we have to, for this game.

[00:26:44] We have to, because even I was complaining about it for three.

[00:26:50] Here goes.

[00:26:51] Most of the time, the game is going to run at a locked 30.

[00:26:57] Much like Astral Chain.

[00:27:01] Except when you go to forgive my pronunciation, the Theranogs.

[00:27:06] Think like the Alfheim or Mosfelheims of one and two, where you go in the separate rooms and you do challenges and fight a lot of shit.

[00:27:14] Then it's going to be 60 FPS, baby.

[00:27:19] What?

[00:27:21] So you're telling me general gameplay is 30, but when you go into the little challenges, it's 60.

[00:27:28] Well, it's not just little challenges.

[00:27:30] They call them these distinct areas, but there's a lot of these things.

[00:27:35] But that's got to be jarring for you going back to the 30 sections, I would assume then.

[00:27:40] Because I know for me, I'm not real, real frame rate sensitive, but going back and forth, that's fucking Splatoon.

[00:27:48] When you're in the hub, shit like that.

[00:27:50] It's not as jarring as say when Echoes of Wisdom is just taking a shit.

[00:27:58] I don't know, man.

[00:27:59] That's Splatoon lobby.

[00:28:00] I can't go back.

[00:28:01] I don't want to go.

[00:28:02] Once I, once I leave the lobby, I don't want to go back my entire session.

[00:28:05] And like, it's just like, oh no, get me out of here, please.

[00:28:11] Look, the game's pretty.

[00:28:12] I think it can get away with it, but okay.

[00:28:15] We got that out of the way.

[00:28:18] We're finally started.

[00:28:19] We're told a lot of story.

[00:28:20] What are we doing?

[00:28:22] Because like I said, Sereza is still figuring everything out and they are playing this straight.

[00:28:26] She's 10 to 12 years old.

[00:28:28] It's a few hundred years ago.

[00:28:30] She does not have guns or swords or claws or anything else we've come to associate with the series.

[00:28:37] Rodan's not sitting up there with his chessboard or with his records or anything that's going to be anything that's given her a weapon.

[00:28:44] So how do we fight the denizens of the fairy forest?

[00:28:48] And there are a lot of them.

[00:28:50] Well, she does summon a lost demon into her stuffed cat that she dubs Cheshire.

[00:28:55] There.

[00:28:55] Yes, Andre.

[00:28:56] It's the same cat that Viola used in her segments of Bayonetta 3.

[00:29:01] Oh boy.

[00:29:02] And he's going to be our muscle for the game.

[00:29:04] He's controlled with the right stick and he does rudimentary attacks and combos with ZR.

[00:29:09] While Sereza controls with the left stick and can bind enemies in place with Witch Time and some such with ZL.

[00:29:17] Sounds a little like rub your tummy, pat your head, right?

[00:29:20] That feels a little.

[00:29:21] It can be, but you honestly kind of figure it out fairly quickly.

[00:29:27] But they both physically move independently?

[00:29:30] This isn't like twin stick shootery?

[00:29:32] They move independently, but they do have a hug mode where you will get separated out doing different shit.

[00:29:40] Like, okay, Cheshire, come back.

[00:29:42] And you're hugging her.

[00:29:43] And like, you can't, you're kind of limited on what he does at that point, but you're one entity at that point.

[00:29:48] And then you can split them back apart again.

[00:29:51] Seems fucking wild.

[00:29:53] You do need to do the hugging anyway, because Cheshire's unable to die.

[00:29:56] He's immortal.

[00:29:57] But he does have a power meter that goes down and reverts him back to doll form when he gets hit too much.

[00:30:04] Or if you just fuck around too much, you can't just go around mashing buttons in the air or at nothing, getting blocked all the time.

[00:30:10] Otherwise, he is going to go back to the doll form.

[00:30:13] Are you saying, hold on, hold on.

[00:30:15] Are you saying there's like some sort of hidden meter where if he's not doing damage or not doing anything, it just kind of goes back to you?

[00:30:22] Well, it's not hidden.

[00:30:23] You do see it on the screen.

[00:30:24] It's like, it's right there.

[00:30:25] You can see it.

[00:30:27] It's, it's like blood.

[00:30:28] As long as you're, as long as you're getting hits in your, it's not going to go down too fast.

[00:30:34] You can't, you just can't go swinging at nothing.

[00:30:37] But, uh, he regains his power by, like I said, you, you go back for hug, huggy times with, you know, little surveys.

[00:30:43] Oh, how cute.

[00:30:44] But, you know, you still got to keep an eye on everybody because Teresa is very mortal and she can die.

[00:30:49] Actually, I didn't die too much.

[00:30:50] Maybe because I'm good.

[00:30:51] I don't know.

[00:30:54] Wow.

[00:30:55] He, you know, it's Kevin.

[00:30:57] He loves to do this.

[00:30:58] He loves to just randomly flex on fools for no reason.

[00:31:01] Now he's flexing.

[00:31:01] I mean, that was like a massive humble brag.

[00:31:04] Yeah.

[00:31:04] Like he's just like hashtag humble brag.

[00:31:06] You probably will die a lot.

[00:31:07] Actually, I didn't.

[00:31:08] But moving on.

[00:31:09] Just like hashtag humble brag over fucking the Bayonetta side game.

[00:31:13] Like, geez, man.

[00:31:14] No, this is actually probably one of those times where everyone's going to come in and say, actually, this is the bitch easy game.

[00:31:20] If you died at all, it would have been very embarrassing.

[00:31:24] All right.

[00:31:25] Sure.

[00:31:25] Sure.

[00:31:26] And somebody has already ordered Steve's grade gravestone that said didn't die very often in Bayonetta.

[00:31:32] It's fine.

[00:31:35] But this is a good time to mention while we are very boy crazy in the fairy forest, this is a more leisurely affair through the forest separated into areas to visit and revisit with stuff to find and occasional fairy groups to just pop out in ambush or ones that you can just get the jump on if you find them in places.

[00:31:57] And then, you know, there's the tyrannogs that keep popping up and you a lot of them are optional, but you should really just do all the ones you can find because it just makes the map clearer to read.

[00:32:09] You know, it's not the level based game we're used to this whole time.

[00:32:12] And I don't know, somewhere I'm doing all this and then it fucking dawns on me.

[00:32:18] Andre, remember back in the Bayonetta 3 episode when we found out they were when it turned out that they were trying to make some kind of ill-advised open world thing, you know, with Bayonetta.

[00:32:28] And then we got to play the leftovers of that when that didn't work out.

[00:32:32] Yeah.

[00:32:33] Bayonetta 3 is supposed to be some sort of open world multiverse thing.

[00:32:36] And then it turns, it's like, hey, let's actually just make a Bayonetta game.

[00:32:40] And you can tell that's how what happened.

[00:32:43] Like this actually feels like the game they should have tried testing that concept with, release this game first, and then they should have came out with this fully fledged concept of what they wanted for Bayonetta 3 later.

[00:32:57] I guess this doesn't sound terrible.

[00:33:00] I just don't.

[00:33:02] It's hard for me to trust right now.

[00:33:04] That's all.

[00:33:05] It's hard for me to trust.

[00:33:07] And I guess that was the scary part of this game for me.

[00:33:09] Finding out the thing that I was scared to confront was very good.

[00:33:14] And, you know, also finding out that, you know, retroactively answering last week's question, what a, you know, what a follow up to a Zelda led game could be like, because I don't know.

[00:33:24] I'm still attached to, you know, having that dark nut thing where you in the fucking dark night, man, you in the dark night.

[00:33:34] This was actually a lot of fun.

[00:33:35] I couldn't put it down until it was over.

[00:33:37] And then it was over.

[00:33:38] I'm like, oh, now I'm kind of a little sad.

[00:34:03] All right.

[00:34:04] I kind of have a quickie this show, although I guess it's three quickies.

[00:34:08] I played three different games, but they're all cut from the same cloth.

[00:34:11] So a little preamble first.

[00:34:13] So since I got the Steam Deck, I noticed there was a trend on the store.

[00:34:18] And that trend is like first person perspective games where you like walk around and explore creepy liminal spaces.

[00:34:28] So not like a horror game where you're not like a haunted house or a mansion or something like that.

[00:34:34] Just actual like real life.

[00:34:36] Like, okay.

[00:34:36] Think of like a subway tunnel at night, a long subway tunnel.

[00:34:41] Right.

[00:34:42] Or like a locker room or a shower.

[00:34:44] Like nobody's there and it's like creepy and quiet.

[00:34:47] You know, the kind of spaces I mean in real life.

[00:34:49] Right.

[00:34:50] So, but does anything actually like happen?

[00:34:53] Like, is there like, you know, like nothing jumps out at you.

[00:34:55] It's literally just exploring these liminal places.

[00:34:59] Some games do and some games don't.

[00:35:01] So we'll, I have three examples.

[00:35:02] So we'll get some, some do and some don't.

[00:35:04] So like, yeah.

[00:35:05] Like, or for another example, like a huge conference room by yourself and like an office building.

[00:35:10] It's like, you know, it's so fucking quiet.

[00:35:12] You need to hear a pin drop.

[00:35:13] Those kind of creepy things.

[00:35:15] These games I played, three of them all play on those kind of fears.

[00:35:19] And as Kevin posited, some make it a little more supernatural.

[00:35:23] Some are just like, here's a creepy space and we'll, I'll go through the three that I played.

[00:35:28] So one of them is called Exit 8.

[00:35:31] And this is made by a Japanese developer called Kotake Create, I guess.

[00:35:35] So I mentioned that they're Japanese because it is a Japanese subway tunnel.

[00:35:41] So the premise is you're just going through this endless series of underground walkways, almost like PT.

[00:35:47] I would assume PT was the inspiration for a couple of these for sure, because it's like endlessly looping.

[00:35:54] You're like, what's going on?

[00:35:56] Sometimes you see a guy.

[00:35:58] Sometimes you don't.

[00:35:59] Sometimes like, oh, Kevin, I'm mentioning this to you because I know you bitched about this before.

[00:36:04] IRL, that buzzing sound of like the overhead fluorescent lights.

[00:36:10] You know what I mean?

[00:36:11] That like sound is very important here too.

[00:36:14] Yeah.

[00:36:14] So, you know, I know you don't like that shit.

[00:36:16] So it's very bright and it looks very realistic.

[00:36:19] I think realism is a key feature of these games because it needs to not that your brain is going to think it's real because it's a video game.

[00:36:27] But the more realistic, the better.

[00:36:28] Like whether it's ray traced lights on the reflective surfaces or whether it's, you know, these very high quality textures or very realistic looking subway signs or whatever.

[00:36:40] Yes, this made my Steam Deck chug because the graphics spec on this was really high, but it was worth it.

[00:36:47] Anyway, you're endlessly looping here in Exit 8 and you're wondering what's going on.

[00:36:52] Is this some sort of purgatory?

[00:36:54] And then something happens.

[00:36:56] And I don't want to say what that thing is, obviously, because I don't want to spoil the experience of the game for anybody.

[00:37:02] But then you're like, nobody's going to nobody.

[00:37:05] Nobody listening is going to play Exit 8.

[00:37:07] Just tell us because now I'm curious.

[00:37:08] I'm not going to say it.

[00:37:10] We can break the rules for Exit 8.

[00:37:12] I think it's OK.

[00:37:13] Without breaking the rules for Exit 8, are we walking around like tunnels we're allowed to walk on or are you like walking on the tracks?

[00:37:20] But it's all white.

[00:37:22] It's like you're going from subway to subway.

[00:37:24] It's all white tiled.

[00:37:25] Like it's like an underground passage to get to the next like subway platform, basically.

[00:37:30] OK.

[00:37:32] Fine.

[00:37:33] OK, Kevin, I'll tell you I'm going to cut it out of the show.

[00:37:36] I'll tell you right now.

[00:37:37] Fine time.

[00:37:38] Fine time.

[00:37:39] Fine time.

[00:37:39] Shit like that.

[00:37:40] That's pretty juicy, actually.

[00:37:42] That's that's creepy.

[00:37:43] It's really creepy.

[00:37:44] Yeah.

[00:37:44] See, it's pretty creepy.

[00:37:45] And you wanted to ruin that for the people.

[00:37:48] Nah, I didn't want to ruin that for the people.

[00:37:50] OK, so stuff like that will happen.

[00:37:52] I'm never going to play that because that sounds too scary.

[00:37:54] Oh, it's it's freaky.

[00:37:55] So stuff like that will happen.

[00:37:56] Right.

[00:37:57] And then it dawned on me.

[00:38:00] Wait a second.

[00:38:02] I think I know what I'm supposed to do to get out of here.

[00:38:06] And I played on my hunch and I was right.

[00:38:09] That is what I'm supposed to do.

[00:38:11] And then from there, you kind of you figure out the game of exit eight and then you play it from there and then you try to escape.

[00:38:19] So, again, I'm not going to say I don't really want to say anything more than that.

[00:38:22] But it was fun to have that eureka moment about this game.

[00:38:25] Like gameplay wise, is this kind of like similar to the Stanley parable where you have to like like you're trying to like figure out how to manipulate it?

[00:38:34] No, it's very, very straightforward.

[00:38:36] It's very straightforward.

[00:38:37] If you it's kind of like I don't want to say Simon says it's very like what's a good way to say it?

[00:38:46] It's just not not nuanced like that.

[00:38:48] You just like figure out the objective and do it.

[00:38:50] Yeah, it's recognized.

[00:38:52] It's pattern recognition.

[00:38:53] That's the best way I could say it.

[00:38:54] Pattern recognition where it's like, oh, I think something bad will happen if I do this.

[00:39:00] So I'm not going to do that this time.

[00:39:02] Or wait, I feel like this is safe to do this time.

[00:39:05] So I'll keep going.

[00:39:08] Right.

[00:39:08] Stuff like that.

[00:39:09] And then you figure out, oh, wait, you figure out eventually what's safe to do and what's not what's not safe to do through trial and error by trying it over and over.

[00:39:18] So it took me maybe like, I don't know, 90 minutes to complete a run of it after I figure out what to do.

[00:39:22] Right.

[00:39:22] So it's like it's fun.

[00:39:24] You know, figure you figure that stuff out again.

[00:39:26] I don't want to spoil for the people.

[00:39:27] But that's basically what you do.

[00:39:29] This this company, Kotake Create also made a follow up game called Platform Eight where you're actually on the subway.

[00:39:37] And it's very much the same kind of thing.

[00:39:41] But unfortunately, this isn't as good as Exit 8 because I feel like they probably made this a bit cheaper.

[00:39:46] Like the graphics are not as well put together.

[00:39:48] And as I said, the realistic touches really matter in games like this.

[00:39:51] So that really made Exit 8 pop.

[00:39:55] Platform Eight doesn't pop the same way.

[00:39:56] It's less convincing.

[00:39:58] You know, that doesn't mean that it's bad or that it looks bad that you can't buy into it.

[00:40:02] But the lack of polish compared to Exit 8 is a bit noticeable.

[00:40:07] Again, the game itself, it's kind of the same thing as Exit 8.

[00:40:10] It's pattern recognition.

[00:40:11] Oh, I should do this.

[00:40:13] I should not do this.

[00:40:14] But Platform Eight had a few more scares that actually kind of freaked me out.

[00:40:21] I can tell you about one of them again.

[00:40:23] I don't want to tell the people.

[00:40:25] But OK, here we go.

[00:40:27] Fine time.

[00:40:28] Fine time.

[00:40:29] Whoa!

[00:40:32] See, sounds freaky, huh?

[00:40:34] Sounds freaky.

[00:40:35] That's freaky.

[00:40:37] Yeah, yeah.

[00:40:37] It's pretty interesting.

[00:40:40] But yeah, not much to say about Platform Eight.

[00:40:42] Kind of the same thing as Exit 8, but you're on a platform.

[00:40:44] The third game I want to talk about is called Pools.

[00:40:47] And I bet you can guess what the motif is from the title.

[00:40:51] Billiards, obviously.

[00:40:53] It's a maze game featuring the creepiest, most surreal series of pools and pool rooms and stuff you've ever seen.

[00:41:01] And I personally kind of have experience with this sort of because when I saw pools on the store, when I saw the screenshots, it reminded me of dreams I would have in my teens and well into my mid-20s.

[00:41:16] Where, like, I would really be in rooms like this that would be tinted green, that would be tiled, and maybe not pools, but, like, maybe they'd be, like, bathrooms, like sinks or locker rooms.

[00:41:29] I'd see, like, rows of showers or whatever.

[00:41:31] Or even toilets or urinals.

[00:41:33] Like, that kind of space, right?

[00:41:35] But it'd be all jumbled up.

[00:41:36] It'd be, like, if you were, like, oh, I'm going to make my own bathroom in Animal Crossing.

[00:41:41] You just put the toilets and sinks and urinals, like, all over the fucking place and made it creepy.

[00:41:45] It's, like, almost like that.

[00:41:47] Almost like a weird tiled room randomizer.

[00:41:50] But this is more about the pools.

[00:41:52] Yeah.

[00:41:53] I've totally had that, actually.

[00:41:54] When you were talking about the concept, I thought this seems very, like, dream-esque.

[00:41:58] I've had, you know, like dreams where you go, like, underground in a mall and there's, like, a super weird pool down there.

[00:42:04] Yeah.

[00:42:05] Sorry.

[00:42:06] I'm just sitting here trying to imagine Andre playing a game themed around water on purpose.

[00:42:13] Dude, it's creepy.

[00:42:16] And, Kevin, when you go in, so you've had these streams.

[00:42:19] When you go in those pools.

[00:42:20] Oh, totally, yeah.

[00:42:20] When you go in the pools in these games, it's really murky and weird.

[00:42:25] And you're like, oh, God, is something going to eat me?

[00:42:28] Is something going to, like, Jesus Christ, you know?

[00:42:32] But here's the thing.

[00:42:32] And this is why pools is different from exiting platform aid.

[00:42:36] Pools is just straight up a maze game.

[00:42:38] You're just trying to find the exit.

[00:42:40] There's nothing.

[00:42:40] There's – I'm not saying it's not creepy, but there's no real game to it.

[00:42:44] Like the other ones where you can, like, hey, I figured it out.

[00:42:47] I beat it.

[00:42:48] This is just, like, a maze.

[00:42:50] And you're like, oh, man, did I go up this hallway?

[00:42:52] Did I go up that hallway?

[00:42:53] And obviously it looked really samey because, of course, they would.

[00:42:56] It all looks like the same motif.

[00:42:59] But it's the best of these three games, even though it's the least video game-y.

[00:43:06] Because, man, the sound, the sloshing through the water, the wet footsteps as you get out of the water, the dripping sounds.

[00:43:14] Like the audio is crazy.

[00:43:16] There's sometimes little, like, lawn chairs, like white lawn chairs.

[00:43:19] You could sit on them.

[00:43:20] And then your guy just takes a big sigh, like –

[00:43:25] Like he's just been in here forever.

[00:43:27] And it's just like, man, what is this fucking thing, man?

[00:43:31] What is this place?

[00:43:32] And it's just very creepy, surreal imagery.

[00:43:35] There's, like, a heavy film grain effect on it and, like, a slight fisheye lens.

[00:43:39] Like you're looking through a camera because, guess what?

[00:43:42] You are looking through a camera.

[00:43:43] You can use the two trigger buttons to, like, move your camera back and forth.

[00:43:48] So you can, like, zoom in on stuff and zoom back out.

[00:43:51] You can't take pictures of anything.

[00:43:54] So I'm not sure why you're looking through the view of a camera.

[00:43:58] Or maybe you have a camera for a head.

[00:43:59] I don't know.

[00:44:00] You can't see your guy.

[00:44:01] There's no mirrors.

[00:44:04] So I don't know, man.

[00:44:06] It's really strange.

[00:44:07] It's a lot harder to describe than the other two because, again, it's much less of a game.

[00:44:12] But, man, it's wild.

[00:44:15] If I'm going to recommend anyone play any of these three that I mentioned, it's definitely Pools.

[00:44:20] Pools.

[00:44:20] Again, all these are cheap on Steam.

[00:44:22] I mean, I think I got Pools for, like, $6.

[00:44:24] It is well worth it.

[00:44:27] It sounds legit uncomfortable.

[00:44:29] Yeah.

[00:44:30] It really is.

[00:44:31] Dude, I was playing this at work last night down in the break room.

[00:44:35] Nobody was there, right?

[00:44:37] And it's not like the break room is creepy if it's empty or something like that.

[00:44:40] It's just that, you know, I was playing this game and I was kind of looking around my surroundings like,

[00:44:46] fuck, this is really kind of creeping me out, man.

[00:44:48] And because I've had dreams like that, you've had dreams like that.

[00:44:52] You know exactly the kind of creepy feeling I'm talking about.

[00:44:55] Yeah.

[00:44:56] And did you, like, did you, like, I don't know how to, like, ask this other than, like, did you enjoy playing this?

[00:45:02] Like, I know you're recommending it.

[00:45:03] You're saying it was, like, well executed.

[00:45:05] But did you actually, like, enjoy the time with it?

[00:45:08] Yes.

[00:45:09] I really did.

[00:45:10] I really, really did.

[00:45:12] Like I said, it's tinted green.

[00:45:14] Some places are tinted white.

[00:45:15] Like, there's very dark areas.

[00:45:16] There's very bright blinding areas.

[00:45:18] Thank you, Steam Deck OLED screen.

[00:45:22] But when you see, like, pops of color, when you see, like, sometimes you might see, like, a rubber ducky.

[00:45:29] Or you might see, like, a slide, like a slip and slide.

[00:45:34] And it's, like, red.

[00:45:35] And it really sticks out in this environment.

[00:45:38] And it's like, what the fuck is that doing here?

[00:45:40] Or why are we having slip and slides into, like, this weird series of pools rooms?

[00:45:45] What, like, made you decide, I want to play, like, this genre of game?

[00:45:49] Like, especially three of them.

[00:45:50] It just sounded cool.

[00:45:52] I'm just, like, I really like alternate style horror games.

[00:45:55] And I really enjoy first person horror games.

[00:45:58] I guess, again, maybe horror isn't the right descriptor for these.

[00:46:02] Just creepy games.

[00:46:03] And they just seemed short enough where I could play them and be like, oh, that's cool.

[00:46:09] Another reason why is because, like, they were cheap.

[00:46:12] Like, if I'm being honest.

[00:46:13] Like, if they sucked, I'm like, okay, I'm out, like, $4 for Exit 8.

[00:46:17] Okay, it sucked.

[00:46:18] Whatever.

[00:46:19] And you're sure you were playing pools and not just locked in the janitor's closet for a while?

[00:46:24] You were having these crazy experiences?

[00:46:26] I was definitely playing pools on the Steam Deck, on the Valve Steam Deck.

[00:46:31] I promise.

[00:46:32] Okay.

[00:46:33] If the developer of that comes out with a sequel titled Urinals, I guarantee it'll get a day one review on Fine Time.

[00:46:40] I have to.

[00:46:41] Well, there's toilets in pools.

[00:46:43] There's toilets.

[00:46:44] Oh.

[00:46:45] Oh, okay.

[00:46:46] I thought you were saying there's another game called Toilets.

[00:46:48] No, no, no.

[00:46:50] Well, if they did, why not?

[00:46:51] No, there are toilets in pools.

[00:46:54] Some of them are, like, weirdly underwater, too.

[00:46:57] It's like, why is the toilet under three feet of water here?

[00:47:00] So it's so creepy.

[00:47:01] Anyway, I'll shut up about this game.

[00:47:03] Well, there should be.

[00:47:03] I'm glad there's toilets by the pool.

[00:47:06] Well, you know, so you don't have to, you know, go in the pool.

[00:47:10] To be real, if there was a game called Toilets, we'd have to spend the rest of the show taking Andre to task on why he's not reviewing that game.

[00:47:18] Well, that was, again, that was part of my dreams, too.

[00:47:22] It wasn't just, like, pools or sinks.

[00:47:23] There was toilets and urinals and, like, weird other shit, like, weird fountains sometimes in my dreams.

[00:47:29] Like, anything involving, like, water, I guess.

[00:47:33] I guess is maybe the common theme there.

[00:47:35] But, like, yeah, it was, there's a time.

[00:47:37] Bathtubs, sometimes really deep bathtubs.

[00:47:40] Those would freak me out.

[00:47:42] Anyway, that's enough about pools.

[00:47:44] If this sounds like your jam, it is.

[00:47:46] We'll be right back with the news.

[00:47:49] All right, we're back.

[00:48:46] We're here.

[00:48:48] We out here.

[00:48:49] We got some news.

[00:48:50] We don't really have much.

[00:48:51] I know I promised you guys news before the break here, but honestly, there really hasn't been jack shit happening.

[00:48:59] But there has been a couple of shits.

[00:49:01] Steve, tell me about one of the shits.

[00:49:03] Wow.

[00:49:05] Wow.

[00:49:05] Tell me about one of the shits.

[00:49:07] We actually kind of like Masahiro Sakurai around here, or at least I do.

[00:49:11] I wasn't calling him a shit.

[00:49:13] Because on October 22nd, he's up here.

[00:49:16] You know, he's been doing his YouTube show for the past two years.

[00:49:21] But he's, Aaron, his last won.

[00:49:24] And, you know, unlike other things that go away on this show, it's still going to be up on YouTube for, you know, everyone to look at still.

[00:49:30] But, you know, tidbits from the finality that are pertinent to us right now on Fine Time include

[00:49:39] how we actually scripted out everything from the beginning two years ago in advance.

[00:49:44] Could you imagine having such foresight?

[00:49:46] Nah, not us.

[00:49:48] Cinematic platform paradise coming this holiday season, kids.

[00:49:52] I'm not surprised he did that.

[00:49:54] That's actually not surprising for him.

[00:49:56] No, it's not.

[00:49:57] But it was really fun watching him go through the process of what he did.

[00:50:00] He's like, well, there were a few games that came out that made more sense later.

[00:50:03] And I had the editing team pipe that in.

[00:50:05] You know how that works, right, guys?

[00:50:07] Yes, I do.

[00:50:10] I edit the show, everybody.

[00:50:13] But more importantly, this time gap to create such a YouTube endeavor came from an unusual gap caused from being hired onto a new game,

[00:50:23] but not having said team in place for a new game yet, which is a very unusual occurrence in this industry, according to him.

[00:50:33] Huh.

[00:50:34] Okay.

[00:50:34] Now, let's be real.

[00:50:37] There is a 98% chance that this game is Smash Ultimate Deluxe or Smash 6.

[00:50:44] And a 1% chance of it being the Kid Icarus Uprising remaster that he kept looking at the camera saying, man, OG, oh whiz.

[00:50:51] Wouldn't it be great if someone was making this?

[00:50:56] Hang on to our next topic for why that might not be the case anymore.

[00:50:59] But what else could it possibly be?

[00:51:03] So we're giving a 0% chance to Meteos.

[00:51:07] Or 0%?

[00:51:10] I mean...

[00:51:11] You want to make Meteos 2?

[00:51:13] Yes, dude.

[00:51:14] That's my favorite puzzle game of all time.

[00:51:17] Yes.

[00:51:19] Meteos is pretty great.

[00:51:22] It's incredible.

[00:51:23] That game...

[00:51:23] I don't have time to talk about.

[00:51:25] Maybe I do have time to talk about Meteos.

[00:51:26] This is my fucking podcast, after all.

[00:51:28] We can talk about whatever the fuck we want.

[00:51:31] Steve, this is your podcast.

[00:51:32] You have had a few rants on Meteos.

[00:51:34] I've never...

[00:51:34] I haven't played it before, actually.

[00:51:36] Best Falling Blocks puzzle game of all time.

[00:51:39] Ever.

[00:51:40] Okay, I'll try and make the time.

[00:51:41] That's all I can say.

[00:51:42] Surely you can archive it somewhere.

[00:51:44] Okay, might have to dust off the old R4 card.

[00:51:47] Yeah, yeah.

[00:51:48] You might want to play that on an actual DS.

[00:51:50] I think that's why it's simple, besides the fact that no one gives a fuck.

[00:51:52] I think that's the reason why it's never been ported around.

[00:51:55] No one can...

[00:51:56] Sorry, I don't mean to make this a Meteos segment.

[00:52:01] I guess the obvious question is, what's left for Smash?

[00:52:05] What are they going to do?

[00:52:06] They did everything.

[00:52:07] They did everything.

[00:52:09] I understand that Smash Ultimate was really just, everyone is here, plus a few new things, and here's our ultimate Smash game.

[00:52:19] But what can he do beyond that?

[00:52:21] You can't have 140 characters.

[00:52:24] Now where can you?

[00:52:25] Like, how much more ridiculous can it be?

[00:52:27] You're not saying you think Smash is done, though, are you?

[00:52:29] Like, you think that, like, they've had the grand finale and we're just...

[00:52:33] Nintendo's willing to just drop it?

[00:52:35] Smash is not done, but it's never going to be this again.

[00:52:37] It's going to be a significantly different game.

[00:52:41] Almost like, I don't know, a Street Fighter 3 or, like, a paradigm shifter, you know?

[00:52:47] Like, something that's just way, way different from the previous thing.

[00:52:51] It has to be, because I don't see how they can continue to keep doing this, Steve.

[00:52:55] I honestly think that Smash Ultimate Deluxe just include everything with a handful of more people is, like, the most obvious thing to do.

[00:53:02] But if they're out doing that, then they're going paradigm shift, and I don't know what that looks like yet, obviously.

[00:53:10] No one does.

[00:53:11] It's almost a little scary, because we all saw how well Ultimate did.

[00:53:17] I also...

[00:53:18] I just...

[00:53:18] Okay, in my mind, I'm just not seeing it.

[00:53:21] I can see what's next for Mario Kart, right?

[00:53:23] Or I can see what's next for a lot of things.

[00:53:26] I don't know what they can do with Smash.

[00:53:28] I feel like it's reached its apex.

[00:53:32] Maybe I'm wrong.

[00:53:34] I feel like it's just so hard to, like, take, like, the core essence of the fighting in Smash and, like, try and, like, alter what that is.

[00:53:44] You know, I mean, they can definitely change, you know, how we're doing, like, the campaign mode or whatever.

[00:53:51] But I mean, like, the actual core gameplay to, like, do an actual paradigm shift.

[00:53:57] I just...

[00:53:57] I don't even know how you would go about that without having, like, a fucking massive uproar.

[00:54:04] Then maybe it shouldn't be done.

[00:54:07] I'm okay if we don't have a Smash game again.

[00:54:09] We already have Ultimate.

[00:54:10] I think it's the last Smash game any of us need, unless they make another one.

[00:54:14] I've got to say, I think that's a fucking hot take.

[00:54:18] Why?

[00:54:18] I just don't, like...

[00:54:21] What's left?

[00:54:22] I mean, I get where you're coming from.

[00:54:25] I just...

[00:54:25] I mean, I don't think...

[00:54:27] I'm positive Nintendo doesn't want Smash to end, and I don't think, you know...

[00:54:32] I mean, okay, just, like, imagine the discussions that would be going on if we go, like, 10 years from today, and there's been no Smash.

[00:54:42] You know what I mean?

[00:54:43] Like, people would be, like, pretty rattled about that.

[00:54:47] They'll get over it.

[00:54:48] There hasn't been an F-Zero in 20 years.

[00:54:50] Like, nobody...

[00:54:51] I mean, I'm not saying nobody cares.

[00:54:53] I'm just saying it's, like, nobody...

[00:54:55] Okay, it's different, right?

[00:54:56] But, like, there hasn't been a good Star Fox in 20 years, right?

[00:55:00] There hasn't...

[00:55:00] Hey!

[00:55:01] I don't know.

[00:55:02] I don't know, man.

[00:55:03] It's just, like...

[00:55:04] What?

[00:55:04] Are you going to cape up for, like, Star Fox Command?

[00:55:06] Or not Command.

[00:55:07] What's it called?

[00:55:08] Guard?

[00:55:09] Guard.

[00:55:10] Actually, I would, but that's not what we're doing this time.

[00:55:13] The only good thing to come out of Guard is Grippy Toad.

[00:55:16] That's about it.

[00:55:18] I don't know, man.

[00:55:19] I just...

[00:55:20] Okay, I'll put it this way.

[00:55:22] What do you think's more likely?

[00:55:23] Kid Icarus?

[00:55:25] Or he's actually working on a new Smash that suddenly...

[00:55:29] I don't know if it's that suddenly.

[00:55:31] The Ultimate came out 2018.

[00:55:33] It is...

[00:55:34] It's about almost that time where they would announce a new one with a new system if they

[00:55:39] ever fucking announced it, which is another fucking problem to wrap up.

[00:55:43] Yeah.

[00:55:44] We don't know what that is.

[00:55:49] Okay.

[00:55:50] Well, if Sakurai doesn't have a team in place, it sounds like there are some rooms at Bandai

[00:55:56] Namco where he could probably fill those teams from.

[00:56:00] So, let me explain.

[00:56:03] According to a recent report from Bloomberg, Bandai Namco has sent around 200 out of 1,300

[00:56:09] employees to expulsion rooms.

[00:56:11] Also known as, and I'm going to give a shot at pronouncing this and Andre can tell me why

[00:56:16] I'm wrong.

[00:56:17] Oidashi Beya.

[00:56:19] Pretty good.

[00:56:20] Pretty good.

[00:56:20] Okay.

[00:56:21] How would you have said it?

[00:56:22] Pretty much like that.

[00:56:23] Oidashi Beya.

[00:56:24] Beya.

[00:56:25] That's about it.

[00:56:26] All right.

[00:56:27] All right.

[00:56:27] I'm doing okay.

[00:56:28] So, apparently this is a practice that takes place specifically due to Japanese labor laws

[00:56:33] and the difficulty in having layoffs.

[00:56:35] So, these expulsion rooms are specific areas meant to cause extreme boredom or shame to push

[00:56:41] employees into accepting severance deals.

[00:56:43] Apparently, at the time of the story, nearly 100 employees have already resigned.

[00:56:49] Bandai has disputed these claims.

[00:56:51] However, it sounds like the use of these rooms isn't really acceptable to be made public in

[00:56:56] Japan.

[00:56:57] So, the dispute is to be expected if they're doing it.

[00:57:00] And apparently, I've never heard of this.

[00:57:03] Sega was successfully sued for this practice in 2000-2001, but the news didn't really hit

[00:57:09] the Western news cycle at the time.

[00:57:11] Did you guys, have you guys heard of that?

[00:57:12] I did not hear of that.

[00:57:14] I never heard of that, but I'm remembering around a decade ago when Konami put today,

[00:57:18] Kojima, in a similar situation where, you know, sequestered away from the rest of his

[00:57:25] team, not allowed to make a lot of decisions.

[00:57:27] So, I guess time's a circle, huh?

[00:57:29] You know who they also did that to?

[00:57:32] They did it to Iga.

[00:57:34] They had him.

[00:57:35] They didn't, like, sequester him, but they made him work on mobile games and made him

[00:57:38] work.

[00:57:38] They tried, you know, they basically shoved them out of there.

[00:57:41] So, you know?

[00:57:43] So.

[00:57:44] I feel like at least Kojima's expulsion room probably had, like, really comfy leather chairs

[00:57:50] and stuff like that, I think.

[00:57:52] Because they know it's going to get out eventually.

[00:57:56] Am I wrong?

[00:57:58] His room just has a giant, uh, God, I can never remember the names of the mechs from

[00:58:03] Zone of the Enders.

[00:58:04] God damn it.

[00:58:05] I can't even make the joke.

[00:58:07] Darn.

[00:58:07] Whatever they are.

[00:58:09] Maybe it has one of them.

[00:58:10] Well, we know nobody fucking marches Kojima into your room and be like, hard plastic chair.

[00:58:15] You sit there for fucking 10 hours a day.

[00:58:19] I mean, look, I mean, Steve, compared to your job right now, wouldn't you take that for that

[00:58:24] salary?

[00:58:24] I mean, I feel like, can you use your phone at least or.

[00:58:28] Look, I can take a nap pretty much anywhere.

[00:58:32] So I think I could outlast these people.

[00:58:36] You know, he's going to be, you know, sitting up with Phil Spencer on a couch talking about

[00:58:41] some wacky experience someday soon.

[00:58:43] So we got to give him a nice chair.

[00:58:47] You know what I'm thinking of right now?

[00:58:51] And a lot of people said this over the last year and a half, and I understand why they

[00:58:55] did, but I'd always rub me the wrong way.

[00:58:58] And this story proves why.

[00:59:00] So when the layoffs started happening in the industry, I don't know, the end of the end

[00:59:06] of 22 going through this year and going through basically for two years now, these mass layoffs

[00:59:10] of people, what did everyone say?

[00:59:13] Oh, you can't do that in Japan.

[00:59:15] They have labor laws.

[00:59:17] The Japanese don't do that or whatever.

[00:59:20] The UK, you can't do that because of this or that.

[00:59:22] You have to prove that, you know, you're going bankrupt.

[00:59:25] And people always try to say all these other, all these other countries are better than better

[00:59:29] than us because, you know, we just lay everyone off.

[00:59:33] Nobody's nobody's better than anybody here.

[00:59:35] Corporations are corporations.

[00:59:37] If they will find a way to get rid of you, whether it's illegal or not legal or anything

[00:59:43] in between.

[00:59:44] If they want to cut costs because that mighty dollar or yen or pound is king, they will get

[00:59:52] rid of you somehow, some way.

[00:59:54] Maybe it's not as easy to do in other places that it is America, but they will do it.

[01:00:00] And this is that story.

[01:00:02] This is them doing it, Steve.

[01:00:04] So I don't want to hear anymore of how, you know, whatever is, you know, I'm not doing

[01:00:08] this as a, you know, protect America kind of thing.

[01:00:10] I'm just saying that like, you know, corporations.

[01:00:13] Yeah.

[01:00:14] Corporations are what they are.

[01:00:15] They're the same around the world.

[01:00:16] Don't pretend like other ones are better than other ones.

[01:00:18] It's like, we keep saying times are tough all over and we really do mean all over.

[01:00:25] Well, in Canada, we would never do that.

[01:00:27] Oh no, never, never.

[01:00:29] Do you guys, uh, what corporations as far as the, I can see, you got the poutine room.

[01:00:35] You got to eat the poutine with the, with the store and walk gravy all day.

[01:00:41] What's that?

[01:00:41] What's that old timey word for the jail?

[01:00:43] Pokey.

[01:00:44] Do you send them to the pokey?

[01:00:45] Oh, yeah.

[01:00:46] Take you to the pokey.

[01:00:47] Well, I mean, at a certain, at a certain point it might happen.

[01:00:50] I don't know.

[01:00:51] Put them in the pokey.

[01:00:53] He wouldn't know anything about that.

[01:00:56] I don't go to the pokey.

[01:00:59] Okay.

[01:01:00] Not you.

[01:01:01] Other, other people do who are, who are less skilled.

[01:01:03] Other Canadians.

[01:01:11] All right.

[01:01:11] You know what?

[01:01:12] Fuck the news.

[01:01:12] You know what the real news is around here?

[01:01:15] You guys had another weird fast food item that you ate that I did not eat.

[01:01:19] And I want to be regaled with stories about it.

[01:01:22] So Andre's got his ear to the streets.

[01:01:24] He knows what the, what the real news is.

[01:01:26] Yeah.

[01:01:27] The real news.

[01:01:28] So you guys had the Adams family burger King menu.

[01:01:34] I don't really know anything that's on this menu except that there's a whopper with a purple bun.

[01:01:42] And that was enough for me to be like, nope.

[01:01:44] Besides the fact that I don't like burger King.

[01:01:46] Even if I did, I'd be like, nah, I don't care.

[01:01:48] Oh, two hot takes in one show.

[01:01:51] Steve, Kevin, tell the people about your experience with the Adams family burger King meal.

[01:01:58] Before we get too far into it, I need to say far and away burger King tried much harder with all of this than Wendy's did with their SpongeBob bullshit.

[01:02:08] Okay.

[01:02:09] This is the Wednesday whopper.

[01:02:11] If you want to get a side of onion rings, it's things rings.

[01:02:15] Yeah.

[01:02:15] It's just onion rings in the thing, but they're, they're trying over here.

[01:02:18] You could get, you could get Gomez churro fries or a morticia, you know, cookie cook.

[01:02:26] I'm sorry.

[01:02:26] Cookie shake.

[01:02:28] Get it?

[01:02:28] Cause it's cookies and they're cookie.

[01:02:31] And they tried attempts were made to be on theme here.

[01:02:35] And they didn't, we didn't just throw things that we had already in the restaurant into the thing and call it a day.

[01:02:42] Attempts were made at, at burger King to, you know, have a theme here.

[01:02:45] So just for that, they already won.

[01:02:48] Let's move on to the next segment.

[01:02:49] No, just kidding.

[01:02:50] We got to tell them.

[01:02:51] Now that you said the other items though, that sounds a lot more appealing.

[01:02:54] I just saw the purple burger, Kevin.

[01:02:56] I was like, no.

[01:02:59] Well, unfortunately as a, I have diabetes and B I was literally on my way to a fairly major medical appointment.

[01:03:07] As, as we had this meal, I didn't get to indulge in the, um, churro fries or the shake.

[01:03:14] So I'll have to leave that up to Steve.

[01:03:16] Okay.

[01:03:17] Okay.

[01:03:17] But let's tell the people about the burger because you were very insistent this time.

[01:03:21] You were feeling left out of all these other endeavors.

[01:03:24] I am eating this fucking shit.

[01:03:26] I don't care if it, if I shit purple for weeks, I'm trying this.

[01:03:30] I'm like, okay, geez, there was never a barrier of entry.

[01:03:33] Kevin, just, just try a thing.

[01:03:35] You could be in the segments.

[01:03:37] Christ.

[01:03:38] This man was upset.

[01:03:39] We left them out of the Oreo Coke, but it's like, do you literally just heard him say he had a diabetes?

[01:03:44] And we wanted him to, okay, no, let's let the people in on the real story here.

[01:03:49] Oh my God.

[01:03:50] These two, these two conspired behind my back to try.

[01:03:56] And, and so usually, okay.

[01:03:57] Like when fucking Sparky or whatever, what was the lemon lime drink that came out?

[01:04:02] Um, they don't have that in Canada.

[01:04:04] A lot of times this shit isn't out in Canada.

[01:04:07] So nobody even, and they told me about Sparky, but I don't, I don't have it.

[01:04:11] But, but we do have the Coke, the Oreo flavored Coke here.

[01:04:17] And, but they had in their private conversations decided they're going to try it on the show.

[01:04:22] Nobody told me.

[01:04:23] So before the show, they're like, oh, well, we've got our, we've got our drinks ready.

[01:04:27] And I'm like, whoa, yo, what the fuck?

[01:04:29] And, and Andre is like, well, you have diabetes.

[01:04:33] It's soda.

[01:04:34] Guess what?

[01:04:35] It's fucking Coke zero.

[01:04:36] They don't even sell it in full sugar Oreo flavor, bitch.

[01:04:40] I didn't even know that before.

[01:04:43] I just thought I got the one at the store because it said, it was like, okay, this is the only one.

[01:04:48] It's better than nothing.

[01:04:49] I didn't know.

[01:04:49] That's the only way it came up to you guys.

[01:04:51] Also, you should know, I would, I would take a little shot in the diabetes gut for, for the show.

[01:04:57] I would at least sit on a full sugar pop, but when I'm not invited, obviously not.

[01:05:03] I didn't know you were going to feel this way.

[01:05:04] So in, in, in, in, out of my frustration for these guys, like the day after I went and purposely fully found the Coca-Cola flavored Oreos and I ate them by myself.

[01:05:17] And it didn't feel very good, but I did it.

[01:05:20] Were they any good?

[01:05:21] Well, I'm not going to review them for the show.

[01:05:24] Wow.

[01:05:25] That was a, that was a, that was a personal experience that was for me and me alone.

[01:05:29] Holy shit.

[01:05:29] Listen to this guy right now.

[01:05:31] You know what?

[01:05:31] That's fine.

[01:05:32] You know why?

[01:05:32] Because I probably.

[01:05:34] Steve let, gave me the heads up that he was doing the Adams family Burger King thing.

[01:05:38] So he has redeemed himself.

[01:05:40] Andre still kind of on the, uh, the food shit list.

[01:05:43] Wow.

[01:05:44] Dude.

[01:05:44] I mean, you know, okay.

[01:05:46] This, uh, but I'm just saying like, this isn't a show with two Husky gentlemen and one skinny fit guy.

[01:05:53] Right.

[01:05:54] I'm like, I'm in the fucking club.

[01:05:56] You're in the club.

[01:05:59] So we have, we have glasses and beards.

[01:06:01] We are podcasters.

[01:06:03] Okay.

[01:06:04] We did now.

[01:06:05] Are we ready to actually review the things now?

[01:06:07] Because.

[01:06:08] Yes.

[01:06:08] Yes.

[01:06:08] Let's do it.

[01:06:09] Oh my God.

[01:06:10] I need to.

[01:06:10] I feel.

[01:06:11] Not to be too inside baseball, but people at home were promised this today.

[01:06:16] Yeah, I know.

[01:06:17] I, so I just, I've been holding this in for weeks and it's nice to let, let go of it.

[01:06:20] So yes, I'm, um, we can move on.

[01:06:22] I just didn't know it was going to be at me.

[01:06:24] Steve got off Scott free.

[01:06:25] I mean, Jesus Christ.

[01:06:26] And I don't even get to know if the Coca-Cola Oreos were any good.

[01:06:29] Jesus.

[01:06:29] Well, he didn't, he didn't throw out.

[01:06:31] Well, it's pop Kevin.

[01:06:32] You can't have it.

[01:06:33] He, you know, that was you that went there.

[01:06:36] My God.

[01:06:37] Moving right along.

[01:06:38] Oh, Kevin, I'd have to say this was pretty good.

[01:06:41] Huh?

[01:06:42] This was pretty fucking good.

[01:06:44] Yeah.

[01:06:44] The burger.

[01:06:45] I, and I was a little hesitant because I remember being a kid when they came out with purple ketchup.

[01:06:50] So of course I'm like, mom, we got to get the purple ketchup and she bought it.

[01:06:53] And immediately I'm like, fuck.

[01:06:56] Like as soon as it was on my plate, like this isn't bright, cheery purple.

[01:06:59] This is like gross purple.

[01:07:01] And I didn't really want to eat it.

[01:07:02] So I did.

[01:07:03] Then we just had to throw away a full bottle of purple ketchup.

[01:07:05] So I was, you know, I wasn't, how was, how am I going to feel about this purple bun?

[01:07:09] But I felt good about it.

[01:07:10] And it tasted nice.

[01:07:12] There's, there's a bit of a reason for that.

[01:07:14] I, and it became apparent when I was pulling up to get mine.

[01:07:18] It says right on the menu colored with purple potato.

[01:07:21] Like, Oh, we're, we're using a real food for this one.

[01:07:26] Not like when we put in crazy dyes for these other, uh, roles with that, when they did the

[01:07:33] other ones with a red, super red one for a Tabasco bun or a black one for a barbecue.

[01:07:40] So I remember the black bun.

[01:07:42] Oh, that was so weird.

[01:07:43] Yeah.

[01:07:44] Yeah.

[01:07:45] But they're like, this is going to be, I wonder if this is just going to be like a potato

[01:07:49] roll because I've had terrible blue chips before.

[01:07:53] That's that's, they make those with purple potatoes and they end up looking blue by the

[01:07:56] time they're done with that.

[01:07:57] That's why they call it the, like, it's a whopper with bacon and Swiss on a potato roll.

[01:08:03] That just happens to be purple.

[01:08:05] And if I don't know how prominent potato rolls are everywhere you go, but burger potato rolls

[01:08:11] pretty good.

[01:08:12] I think the, the, the roll was very good.

[01:08:16] However, maybe, maybe, uh, I don't want to challenge you, but I think what really set

[01:08:20] that burger off, to be honest, was the Swiss.

[01:08:22] I've never had a whopper with Swiss before.

[01:08:24] And, and the, the, the Swiss was like exactly the right choice for that burger.

[01:08:29] I thought the Swiss was okay.

[01:08:31] This is where I'm going to be a little snobby.

[01:08:32] I, I, I, I'm a little.

[01:08:35] Okay.

[01:08:36] What is a prize?

[01:08:37] Yeah.

[01:08:38] Okay.

[01:08:38] You know why I'm a little snobby.

[01:08:39] You all know why I got my smoker in the yard.

[01:08:42] We're approaching that time of year where I'm out there with real, real Jawsberg.

[01:08:46] It's my own fault.

[01:08:47] I've, you know, I, I got way too much of that.

[01:08:49] It's like, you know, I'm standing there with real Swiss and not, you know, Sargentos from,

[01:08:55] you know, whatever, wherever they got from.

[01:08:56] Wow.

[01:08:56] We're going to shit on Sargentos now.

[01:08:59] And they're good.

[01:09:00] But I'm like, that's not what's going to stand out for me in this burger.

[01:09:04] It's good.

[01:09:05] But I'm like, when I'm going back, it's, it's for that purple bun, but it really can't

[01:09:12] be that anymore because like not even a week later when I'm thinking, man, you know, it'd

[01:09:16] be good.

[01:09:17] Another one of those purple whoppers.

[01:09:19] You go on the app and they're saying purple bun might not be guaranteed.

[01:09:25] So now if you want one, you're, you're pretty much taking your life into your hands because

[01:09:31] now you might just be getting a basic bitch bacon Swiss whopper.

[01:09:36] I guess that's not bad, but that's not a Wednesday whopper.

[01:09:39] This is a problem too, because despite Steve's warnings, my kids like really have it in their

[01:09:46] head.

[01:09:46] We need the Krabby Patties.

[01:09:48] We have to try Krabby Patties while they're around.

[01:09:50] And so last week my wife was in, in town and she was like, I'm going to stop at Wendy's.

[01:09:57] What do you guys want?

[01:09:58] And of course the kids are like, we really want the Krabby Patties and they're still selling

[01:10:01] them, but they were sold out of the Krabby Patties at that time.

[01:10:05] They didn't have the materials.

[01:10:07] So I, I don't know.

[01:10:09] I guess that's like specifically mixed ketchup and mayonnaise that you griped about might

[01:10:15] have not been pre-mixed before it showed up.

[01:10:17] It's not that hard to nevermind.

[01:10:23] Well, that's what we were told.

[01:10:24] They didn't have the Krabby Patties available.

[01:10:26] So we're, we're, I'm still getting harassed every few times a week to get Krabby

[01:10:31] Patties at some point.

[01:10:32] So we're, we're the onion rings basically just the same, but just in a funny box or something

[01:10:35] or.

[01:10:36] They're just in a funny box, but you know, a for effort in that case, like, like I said,

[01:10:40] they're trying.

[01:10:41] It's not like when Wendy's said, oh, hot and fresh fries.

[01:10:46] Burger King is out here trying.

[01:10:48] We actually got dicked on the things rings too, because my son has been really into onion

[01:10:53] rings lately.

[01:10:53] So, um, he was like, I want the things rings with my combo and we got them and it was just

[01:11:00] a regular Burger King box that the onion rings came.

[01:11:04] He was so pissed and he was really, he was like, well, are these, are these different than

[01:11:10] things rings?

[01:11:11] Why didn't I get things rings?

[01:11:14] You didn't even get the box.

[01:11:17] No, I had to look it up on the website and show him.

[01:11:19] No, these are just onion rings.

[01:11:20] And I, so I, I was like, you have things rings.

[01:11:23] You just don't have the box room, but those are things rings.

[01:11:27] The box actually says things rings and other things.

[01:11:29] That means, yeah, we're putting fries in here too.

[01:11:32] We don't care.

[01:11:33] It's just a fun box for Halloween kids.

[01:11:36] Tell me about the forbidden Kevin item.

[01:11:38] So I want to know about the churros, especially.

[01:11:40] Well, first we just need to get the kooky shake out of the way.

[01:11:45] Now here's my forbidden opinion of the week.

[01:11:47] Like I think Burger King has the best, one of the best shakes on you can get for like

[01:11:51] four bucks.

[01:11:52] Okay.

[01:11:53] I really do.

[01:11:54] Like they, they use real soft serve ice.

[01:11:57] Well, I say real, but you know, it's soft serve ice cream and they're making that shake

[01:12:00] fresh for you there.

[01:12:01] It's not just the ice cream machine's broken.

[01:12:04] We can't have shakes today.

[01:12:06] If you ever get a chance to go, go anywhere near a Jack in the box, get a shake.

[01:12:10] They're so good.

[01:12:12] I'm sure I've, I've heard that a lot with, I definitely am.

[01:12:16] But so yeah, I, but the thing is, I don't usually like chunks of things in my shake.

[01:12:21] If I want to shake, I really just want to drink my ice cream.

[01:12:24] I don't really want stuff in there.

[01:12:25] If I want a Sunday, I want a Sunday and that's kind of.

[01:12:28] So you're elitist and boring.

[01:12:30] Oh my God.

[01:12:31] I mean, it's fine.

[01:12:33] It's a, it's a chocolate shake with Oreo chunks in it.

[01:12:36] I mean, if, if you want that, it's good.

[01:12:38] If you don't want that, well, it's an Oreo shake with, it's a shake with Oreo chunks in

[01:12:44] it.

[01:12:44] Tell me about the fucking churros already.

[01:12:46] God damn it.

[01:12:46] Okay.

[01:12:47] This is the best thing on the menu because guess what guys, they, okay.

[01:12:53] I'm not going to pretend like this is an authentic representation of the churro.

[01:12:56] Let's let's end our lives here.

[01:12:58] But they definitely fried some kind of dough, rolled it around and cinnamon sugar and sell

[01:13:07] it to you in a box of either four, eight or 12 at a reasonable price.

[01:13:12] That is good.

[01:13:14] They really don't.

[01:13:16] I mean, I could take or leave the chocolate dipping sauce they give you with it.

[01:13:20] Like it's okay, but you don't necessarily need it, but.

[01:13:23] I've never dipped a churro in chocolate.

[01:13:26] I didn't either until I had it here because last year Sonic was selling something exactly

[01:13:31] like this.

[01:13:31] I think they were just calling them mini churros.

[01:13:33] Okay.

[01:13:34] Same general idea.

[01:13:35] Let's just sell these little things and fried little doughs and a thing and call them churros.

[01:13:40] Dessertie things.

[01:13:41] Little dessertie things.

[01:13:43] And we'll call them churros.

[01:13:44] Like if there was one thing like they were going to keep from this, like, okay, we don't

[01:13:49] have the Adams family license anymore, but just sell churro fries all year.

[01:13:53] Just, just go for it.

[01:13:55] Does Burger King still do chicken fries?

[01:13:57] No.

[01:13:58] Yes.

[01:13:58] I do.

[01:13:59] Okay.

[01:14:00] That's a, that's a product I never want to try.

[01:14:03] I don't have anything to add to the segment.

[01:14:05] Obviously I didn't have it, but I just was, since we're around a Halloweeny right now, I

[01:14:10] was thinking of my favorite thing when I was a kid was the McDonald's happy meals with like

[01:14:15] the pumpkin or the witch.

[01:14:17] They have those right now.

[01:14:19] Yeah.

[01:14:21] We, we literally went to McDonald's like, I don't know, five days ago.

[01:14:24] My daughter got one with her happy meal.

[01:14:26] That's so fucking cool.

[01:14:27] Well, I'm so glad that skipped a generation.

[01:14:29] That is, that is so cool.

[01:14:31] I love those.

[01:14:31] Those are my favorite.

[01:14:32] We used to take those trick or treating.

[01:14:34] Like we literally used to use those.

[01:14:35] Yeah.

[01:14:36] Those were so, if you guys, if maybe if they don't have them in the States, I can probably

[01:14:39] make the effort to get a, get a couple of spare happy meals and hook you guys up.

[01:14:43] They're talking to us right now.

[01:14:46] What was the third one?

[01:14:47] The ghost ghost.

[01:14:48] Yeah.

[01:14:49] Um, I like the pumpkin ones.

[01:14:51] You're coasting with fine time.

[01:15:18] All right.

[01:15:18] I have a secret question to ask these guys.

[01:15:21] They don't know what it is yet because I think that it's, I want to just kind of a more

[01:15:26] of a spur of the moment answer.

[01:15:29] Um, and so to set the stage for this and I don't, I, I specifically, I don't want this

[01:15:36] to come off as, I don't want this to come off as overly jaded, but I do, I do actually

[01:15:42] feel this way a lot of times when a celebrity dies, um, you know, on, on Twitter, Facebook,

[01:15:49] wherever online, I always feel like there's a lot of people that are like, I'm very, very

[01:15:55] sad about this where they're talking like they're like genuinely emotionally distraught about,

[01:16:01] about this person dying.

[01:16:02] When I kind of wonder how genuine that is sometimes personally, I think for most celebrities,

[01:16:10] yeah, it's, it's sad when somebody dies, you know, and it's sad for their family, but I

[01:16:13] don't really feel worse about most of them than, um, you know, then just seeing an obituary

[01:16:20] for somebody I didn't know.

[01:16:21] It doesn't, it doesn't personally affect me.

[01:16:23] However, there are definitely people that I can think of that are celebrities that I will

[01:16:29] be genuinely emotionally affected when they pass away.

[01:16:33] So I want to ask you guys at this time, preemptively who, what, what is a celebrity that you would

[01:16:40] be emotionally distraught about them passing away that is currently alive.

[01:16:45] And to give you guys a little bit of time to sit on this, I'll, I'll go first.

[01:16:48] Um, for me, it's, uh, definitely one is Conan O'Brien.

[01:16:53] Um, I used to watch Conan every single night when I was in high school for, for years.

[01:16:58] Um, never Leno.

[01:16:59] I always tune in right at 10 30 because sometimes Leno had good musical guests.

[01:17:03] So I'd catch the musical guests on Leno and then I'd watch Conan like religiously almost

[01:17:07] every night.

[01:17:08] Um, and I think Conan like played a very major part in developing like what my humor is for

[01:17:16] the rest of my life.

[01:17:17] That was kind of a like formative comedy experience for me.

[01:17:21] And it's, I think it's especially important because when I think of like, what kind of comedy

[01:17:25] do I appreciate?

[01:17:26] The brand is definitely not like late night talk show, but Conan like very much transcends

[01:17:32] that I think it's interesting when, um, you know, if anybody knows much about Conan, he

[01:17:37] really struggled in the first few years, um, of, of his show.

[01:17:42] And, and, you know, it's kind of like, well, you know, he was really at risk of getting canceled

[01:17:45] for the first couple of years.

[01:17:46] It was shaky.

[01:17:47] I feel very strongly that just like Conan just fucking has it.

[01:17:52] And if he did get canceled, I, I think I am certain that he still would have like came

[01:17:57] back maybe in another format, but he was always like destined to be huge.

[01:18:01] Cause he's just too good for like, for the world to not embrace.

[01:18:06] Um, and the comedy, like what he did on that show, especially, you know, kind of for, for

[01:18:11] the skits and stuff, a lot of it was so fucking stupid, but it like in such in like the best

[01:18:18] way where it's like timelessly funny.

[01:18:20] If you go back and watch clips of like him, uh, you know, doing the interview of, of Arnold

[01:18:25] Schwarzenegger when he's the governor of California and they've got like the fake mouth in there

[01:18:30] and every, every time, you know, Arnold has to bring, you know, he's asking him something

[01:18:35] about politics and he's always got to bring up like my holiday classic jingle all the way.

[01:18:41] Great.

[01:18:42] The Clinton ones were my favorite with the mouth looping.

[01:18:45] Those are, those are my favorite.

[01:18:47] Yeah.

[01:18:47] Which is to say, obviously when I was in high school, I watched Conan at a different time,

[01:18:52] those shitty years.

[01:18:53] Right.

[01:18:54] Yeah.

[01:18:54] But here's the thing.

[01:18:55] I mean, I was in middle school mostly and then high school, you know, later nineties,

[01:18:58] but like I watched him from the beginning in those years.

[01:19:02] And you know, it was really funny because like some stuff really did work and some stuff

[01:19:08] completely bombed.

[01:19:10] It was so uneven, but even the stuff that didn't work, he made something out of it.

[01:19:15] Like it was still like, okay, that sucked, but like it's still Conan.

[01:19:18] And he still had that thing where it's like, okay, this skit isn't working out, but I'm

[01:19:23] going to make it work with whatever, with my Conan this, right.

[01:19:27] He's always had that.

[01:19:28] And then of course, over time he got better and better at it.

[01:19:31] You know what I mean?

[01:19:31] But like, yeah, I did watch those early years and there's, I did not expect him to make

[01:19:37] it, but he, but he did.

[01:19:39] Yeah.

[01:19:40] There's, there's a really interesting interview and you can still find video of it on YouTube

[01:19:43] where Howard Stern did an interview with him.

[01:19:46] You know, and it was around that time and he was like, you know, do you think you're going

[01:19:49] to make it?

[01:19:50] Things are rocky.

[01:19:50] You're not getting a lot of good, good reviews and it's, it's pretty dicey.

[01:19:53] And he was just very, you know, you could tell that he meant it when he was like, yeah,

[01:19:57] you know what?

[01:19:57] I think we will.

[01:19:58] I think we're, you know, it's been a little shaky, but we're getting there.

[01:20:01] And I think like the, the base of the show is, is good.

[01:20:05] I don't know.

[01:20:05] I just, his comedy too, um, is he's so fucking good at being like, you know, he can be very

[01:20:14] self depreciating, like very, and it's funny, but he can also be like extremely arrogant.

[01:20:20] I remember there was like seeing one clip of him, like something about him taking his

[01:20:23] dick out and he's like, all right, zip, kathunk, you know, like that kind of thing.

[01:20:27] Right.

[01:20:27] And he can like nail both sides of that so well.

[01:20:30] And I think he's just like a good, he comes off as like a very good, genuine person.

[01:20:33] That's not like, you know, good outwardly, but secretly a dick.

[01:20:38] No, no.

[01:20:38] I, I, I think we would hear about that by now.

[01:20:40] You know what I mean?

[01:20:41] But, but yeah, dude, the fucking, like, I mean, I'm old enough to have watched Conan when

[01:20:48] the, in the year 2000 skit was like before the year 2000, you know, but then he kept doing

[01:20:54] it, but he kept doing it.

[01:20:55] Right.

[01:20:56] I was like, I, I, I remember thinking like, oh man, does he have to stop doing that?

[01:21:00] No, he just did it till like 2007.

[01:21:02] He didn't fuck you.

[01:21:02] Whatever.

[01:21:04] Didn't matter.

[01:21:05] Yeah.

[01:21:05] That's interesting.

[01:21:06] Cause I, I probably started watching Conan around like 2004.

[01:21:10] So, and then I was, you know, so I didn't even know it that I didn't know it was a before

[01:21:14] 2000 thing.

[01:21:15] Oh yeah.

[01:21:15] He did that started in like 95, 96 or so.

[01:21:19] Yeah.

[01:21:19] He kind of did that in the early years.

[01:21:21] I didn't think this would become an entire Conan thing, but yeah, no, I, I, I also Conan

[01:21:28] informed a lot of things for me as well.

[01:21:30] Even in those early years.

[01:21:31] I don't know if I have a celebrity that I would feel that way about.

[01:21:38] I can't think of one.

[01:21:39] I can think of a few that hit me in a way where I was like, oh man, this is a real fucking

[01:21:48] bummer.

[01:21:51] But I don't, Steve, do you have a current one?

[01:21:54] I don't know if I have one.

[01:21:56] I don't have a real current one either.

[01:21:59] I remember, holy shit.

[01:22:01] It was actually on my birthday a few years ago when Gilbert Gottfried died.

[01:22:06] And it was because not just because of things he was in, but because he was actively doing

[01:22:12] his own podcast where he was really going into the trenches and finding as many, well,

[01:22:19] I wouldn't say has been like, like a lot of retired people that you thought were dead

[01:22:23] weren't dead, but like he was just finding all these people up and talking to him about,

[01:22:28] you know, their time in the industry and like all these very insightful things to be talking

[01:22:32] about just in show business and just, oh, you know, a word we don't like around here,

[01:22:38] preserving these things like on his, like really doing the work.

[01:22:43] And then one day you're like, oh, he's gone.

[01:22:46] And that, that, that, that, that really hit.

[01:22:49] But, but someone alive, I, that's still with us now.

[01:22:52] I really can't think of anyone not right off hand.

[01:22:56] Do you guys remember when we were doing our previous creative endeavor and it was at the

[01:23:01] beginning of the Rona and Adam Schlesinger died of Fountains of Wayne songwriter?

[01:23:08] I remember, I remember you talking about it.

[01:23:10] Yeah.

[01:23:10] And that, I don't know if it was just, it was locked down.

[01:23:13] And if it was just the time period we were in or whatever, that struck me like lightning,

[01:23:19] man.

[01:23:19] That was, that, that felt so terrible to me at that time.

[01:23:22] Again, I, I'm not saying that like, oh, it was definitely just cause you know, we're

[01:23:26] having, we're in the middle of a raging pandemic, but it was, it was partly that.

[01:23:31] And like coincidentally, the Mario maker two course I had just made, I named it after

[01:23:36] Fountains of Wayne song.

[01:23:37] And then the guy croaks the next day, it was just weird.

[01:23:40] It was just a weird amount of just a weird time, weird coincidence.

[01:23:45] When you had done a segment on the previous creative endeavor about a Fountains of Wayne

[01:23:50] album.

[01:23:51] And I'm sure that was before that.

[01:23:53] It was because of that.

[01:23:55] It was because of that.

[01:23:56] Okay.

[01:23:56] Because I remember you asked me what, like, if I want to listen to a Fountains of Wayne

[01:24:00] record, what, what should I?

[01:24:01] And I said, traffic and weather.

[01:24:03] So yeah, it was, it was because of that.

[01:24:07] Um, but yeah, that's the last time I remember something really, I don't know if this is like

[01:24:12] celebrity celebrity.

[01:24:14] I think all of us, uh, uh, Satoru Iwata hit me like a ton of bricks.

[01:24:18] I mean, like, again, I was naughty.

[01:24:21] I fucking hated Nintendo at that time.

[01:24:23] Right.

[01:24:23] And even then I was still like, it was, you know, but yeah, I can't think of like a current

[01:24:30] one, Kevin.

[01:24:31] I don't, I don't know if there is one sometime.

[01:24:33] I mean, I guess it's like a cliche, right?

[01:24:35] You don't know what you have till it's gone.

[01:24:37] So maybe, maybe I just don't know.

[01:24:39] Well, now if anybody dies and you express any remorse, we're going to call you a liar.

[01:24:42] So.

[01:24:42] Okay.

[01:24:44] Fake, fake tears, fake news.

[01:24:46] Yeah.

[01:24:48] Fine time.

[01:24:49] Fine time.

[01:24:50] Fine time.

[01:24:51] Andre and Kevin, are you ready to play the name is many things on the board as we can game?

[01:25:01] Game.

[01:25:02] Game.

[01:25:05] Oh boy.

[01:25:06] Am I?

[01:25:07] Will you not, do you have, do you have to talk over every music cue?

[01:25:11] You ass.

[01:25:12] Every time I play something, you have to.

[01:25:14] I thought it was fine for us to talk over the music.

[01:25:17] I didn't know it was.

[01:25:18] I thought, I thought, I, I, I apologize.

[01:25:21] I thought the music was here to accentuate, accentuate what we're saying, not dominate us.

[01:25:26] Sorry.

[01:25:26] Oh my God.

[01:25:27] You, I will take this board right here and go home.

[01:25:31] Remember the first time we played this?

[01:25:32] He had the, it was like on purpose almost.

[01:25:35] He had to say something over everyone.

[01:25:38] This is a very serious name.

[01:25:41] As many things as you can in 45 seconds games.

[01:25:44] Very serious.

[01:25:45] Do not talk over the music.

[01:25:46] Do not talk over it.

[01:25:51] I heard quite a bit of Andre talking over that one, but whatever.

[01:25:56] Call, call, call a guy out for not inviting you to review sugar-free soda.

[01:26:02] And this is what you get.

[01:26:03] I didn't know it was sugar-free.

[01:26:04] Okay.

[01:26:05] As we can tell from the lack of reverence, I'm the one that came up with the thing that

[01:26:10] everyone has to name on the board this time.

[01:26:13] Okay.

[01:26:13] And because it's the spoopy season.

[01:26:15] Yes.

[01:26:15] It's still the spoopy season.

[01:26:17] And I like candy.

[01:26:19] Yes.

[01:26:19] We're doing another candy game.

[01:26:21] I, but it's all real candy this time.

[01:26:24] All these candies are real.

[01:26:25] I didn't make any of this shit up.

[01:26:27] We're going to do a real survey.

[01:26:31] 2019 children.

[01:26:32] So this is before the pandemic.

[01:26:34] They surveyed 1000 children aged five to 17 about their favorite brands of candy that

[01:26:43] they were really looking forward to that Halloween.

[01:26:47] Okay.

[01:26:48] Now I'm talking about candy brands.

[01:26:50] They were able to name.

[01:26:52] So I don't want you people going lollipops.

[01:26:55] I want you to come with me with, I need you to say dumb dumbs or Tootsie pops.

[01:27:01] Two failures.

[01:27:01] Two failures.

[01:27:01] These should be more than enough for, to get 10 of these guys.

[01:27:06] Can I ask before we start?

[01:27:07] Are these predominantly American candies?

[01:27:11] These are candies.

[01:27:13] Everyone here has heard of.

[01:27:15] Okay.

[01:27:16] All right.

[01:27:17] Let's populate the board.

[01:27:19] Who's going to go first, Kevin, me or you?

[01:27:21] See, I'm not used to this.

[01:27:22] Should I go first since I've never been in this position?

[01:27:24] Yeah.

[01:27:24] You're, you're the virgin.

[01:27:26] I think you should experience it.

[01:27:29] I feel like I'm just going to go basic bitch here.

[01:27:33] This has to be on here.

[01:27:34] And Steve, I'm going to say nerds.

[01:27:38] Are nerds on the board?

[01:27:41] No.

[01:27:43] Ooh.

[01:27:44] How can I?

[01:27:46] What?

[01:27:47] What happened to nerds?

[01:27:49] How can I get one wrong already?

[01:27:50] This is terrible.

[01:27:51] This is a terror.

[01:27:51] I'm batting zero.

[01:27:52] Yeah.

[01:27:53] You know what?

[01:27:54] I had already thought nerds before you said it.

[01:27:56] So I thought that was a shoe in.

[01:27:58] Jesus Christ.

[01:27:59] Okay.

[01:27:59] Kevin.

[01:28:02] I feel like the go-to for the most part has to be candy bars.

[01:28:06] I'm just, I'm like living in fear that I'm going to name a Canadian only.

[01:28:10] That's just not known worldwide.

[01:28:12] I think one of the most popular is Snickers.

[01:28:14] Do you guys have Snickers in the States?

[01:28:16] We do have Snickers in the States, but do you think they're popular enough for kids five to 17 to want?

[01:28:23] I, okay.

[01:28:24] I'm not going to say Snickers based on that.

[01:28:28] What about Smarties?

[01:28:30] You're saying Smarties.

[01:28:31] I'm saying Smarties.

[01:28:32] Final answer.

[01:28:33] I'm locking it in.

[01:28:35] The children do not want Smarties.

[01:28:39] Yo, man.

[01:28:40] We're not going to.

[01:28:41] Okay.

[01:28:41] Fuck this.

[01:28:42] I don't think we have a choice.

[01:28:43] I'm going to.

[01:28:44] Excuse me.

[01:28:48] Okay.

[01:28:48] It has to be proper.

[01:28:49] Unless I make the sound, I cannot answer.

[01:28:51] Okay.

[01:28:53] Look, I have to say Snickers.

[01:28:55] I really don't know what else to do here.

[01:28:56] If nerds and Smarties are not here, I'm going to say Snickers, Steve.

[01:29:01] Snickers are on the board.

[01:29:04] Thank you.

[01:29:05] Fucking God.

[01:29:05] If I pressured me like I was making a poor choice.

[01:29:09] He didn't do shit.

[01:29:10] I would have just said Snickers.

[01:29:11] He was like, he was like, do you really think that kids would want Snickers?

[01:29:19] Snickers?

[01:29:19] I think you're making up a joke.

[01:29:21] Snickers are number four on the board.

[01:29:24] Okay.

[01:29:24] Number four.

[01:29:25] All right.

[01:29:26] All right, Kevin.

[01:29:28] Okay.

[01:29:29] Well, I'm back on board with the chocolate bars then.

[01:29:31] I'm saying O'Henry.

[01:29:34] More like no Henry.

[01:29:38] This is going to be.

[01:29:40] What the fuck?

[01:29:40] Wow.

[01:29:41] I'm here by myself already.

[01:29:42] It's down to 100.

[01:29:42] I'm ready to name nine kinds of candy.

[01:29:44] I really thought you guys were going to nail this.

[01:29:46] We're not going to do.

[01:29:47] Okay.

[01:29:47] Okay.

[01:29:48] Okay.

[01:29:48] I'm going to stick candy bars because I don't really have any.

[01:29:51] I'm not going to.

[01:29:52] I'm not going to do anything else but that.

[01:29:54] Let's say Milky Way.

[01:29:57] No Milky Way.

[01:30:00] Steve, what?

[01:30:01] What did you just do to us?

[01:30:02] What happened?

[01:30:04] What happened?

[01:30:05] I'm going to end this game as soon as possible.

[01:30:08] What the hell are you people?

[01:30:13] I feel like I was at a regional disadvantage here.

[01:30:17] Regional disadvantage?

[01:30:18] What?

[01:30:20] Let's go through them all.

[01:30:21] Number one, Hershey's.

[01:30:23] Number two, Reese's.

[01:30:25] No.

[01:30:25] Okay.

[01:30:26] Hold on.

[01:30:26] Already.

[01:30:27] What the fuck is it?

[01:30:28] Hershey's is a brand.

[01:30:29] Like you don't.

[01:30:30] You can't go and buy like just Hershey's.

[01:30:33] Hershey's chocolate bars.

[01:30:34] Yes.

[01:30:34] Hershey's kisses or.

[01:30:36] This is bullshit.

[01:30:38] This is.

[01:30:39] All right.

[01:30:40] I don't.

[01:30:41] Steve, I don't think this is bullshit.

[01:30:43] I just think the kids are bullshit.

[01:30:44] So please.

[01:30:46] You don't like Kit Kats.

[01:30:48] I wouldn't.

[01:30:49] I mean, I named.

[01:30:50] Okay.

[01:30:51] What were my two wrong answers?

[01:30:53] How do you not come up with M&Ms or Skittles?

[01:30:55] Like Kit Kats over O'Henry's though?

[01:30:58] Nerds and Milky Way.

[01:30:59] Nerds and Milky Way.

[01:31:01] Those aren't.

[01:31:02] I'm sorry.

[01:31:02] I made good guesses.

[01:31:03] It's not like I said a hundred grand or payday or something.

[01:31:06] A nerds and Milky Way.

[01:31:07] I'm sorry.

[01:31:08] I'm being stupid.

[01:31:10] Like Jesus Christ.

[01:31:12] If those are on there.

[01:31:13] Those are Skittles.

[01:31:14] I didn't even get a fucking chance.

[01:31:17] Clearly.

[01:31:18] Because we only had two misses.

[01:31:20] Don't act like we're stupid for saying.

[01:31:22] I'm sorry.

[01:31:22] I don't think nerds or Milky Way are bad guesses.

[01:31:25] Sorry.

[01:31:26] Please.

[01:31:26] You can act like I'm dumb all you want.

[01:31:28] But you know what?

[01:31:29] Milky Way.

[01:31:30] I would have probably guessed too.

[01:31:31] Nerds is not a bad guess.

[01:31:33] Nerds is not.

[01:31:33] I'm sorry.

[01:31:35] No, I guess not.

[01:31:36] Yeah.

[01:31:36] Okay.

[01:31:37] So shut up.

[01:31:38] Actually, don't shut up.

[01:31:39] Tell me.

[01:31:39] Tell me the rest of the M&Ms are going to be on there.

[01:31:42] M&Ms will totally be on there.

[01:31:43] M&Ms were number five.

[01:31:45] You got Snickers at four.

[01:31:46] M&Ms were five.

[01:31:48] Skittles were six.

[01:31:50] Twix were seven.

[01:31:51] Starburst were eight.

[01:31:52] Sour Patch Kids at nine.

[01:31:53] Jelly Ranchers were ten.

[01:31:55] Those are all things I could have.

[01:31:57] Like, you know, like how many?

[01:31:58] Like, yeah, those aren't obscure.

[01:32:00] It's not like I made fun of you guys last time for me.

[01:32:02] Oh, you didn't get Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

[01:32:05] You fucking idiots.

[01:32:06] What are you thinking about?

[01:32:08] I mean, Jesus Christ, man.

[01:32:11] I think Twix being on that list is insane.

[01:32:15] Like, who the fuck likes Twix?

[01:32:17] I like Twix, but I would have never said that.

[01:32:19] I do like Twix, so.

[01:32:20] I think it's just a matter of exposure.

[01:32:22] Like, what are kids getting every year?

[01:32:24] I can't believe we did so bad.

[01:32:26] I don't know.

[01:32:26] I don't.

[01:32:27] Yeah, that was.

[01:32:28] That sucks.

[01:32:29] I did not mean for that to be.

[01:32:32] I didn't make.

[01:32:33] We probably should have went to Skittles.

[01:32:35] Skittles seems like a shoe in.

[01:32:37] I mean, shit.

[01:32:39] I mean, goddamn, that was harder than Kevin's 45 second topics, which obliterated us.

[01:32:43] Remember that?

[01:32:44] Oh, my God.

[01:32:45] We couldn't even.

[01:32:46] I couldn't even name a one on one of them.

[01:32:48] Like that.

[01:32:49] But that was this was tougher.

[01:32:51] This was actually tougher.

[01:32:52] No, you got one on this one.

[01:32:54] Okay.

[01:32:57] My God.

[01:32:58] I'm still not over you.

[01:32:59] I'm still not over you saying nerds is a bad.

[01:33:01] I mean, fuck off.

[01:33:02] No, nerds is a good guess.

[01:33:04] How dare you?

[01:33:05] You know what?

[01:33:06] I have.

[01:33:07] I have much more faith in Kevin doing good in the game.

[01:33:11] I explicitly designed for him on next show.

[01:33:14] Yeah, see, this is causing me like mad anxiety already.

[01:33:17] I don't.

[01:33:17] I don't like Kevin targeted games.

[01:33:21] These are designed to make me look stupid.

[01:33:23] I know it.

[01:33:24] He's trying to lure me into a false sense of security.

[01:33:27] No, I don't know.

[01:33:28] When I've done Kevin and target Kevin and when I've done Kevin targeted games, I've I think

[01:33:34] they've worked out.

[01:33:35] What did I play with you?

[01:33:36] Capcom tight horse Sega.

[01:33:37] I think you did all right on that.

[01:33:38] That was pretty.

[01:33:39] Well, I did.

[01:33:40] Okay.

[01:33:40] The first time, I guess.

[01:33:41] Yeah.

[01:33:42] I want.

[01:33:43] I want something that is like designed to make me look smart.

[01:33:46] Rank.

[01:33:46] Rank.

[01:33:47] Rank the hairiest parts of Kevin's body to the least.

[01:33:51] I don't know how smart anything.

[01:33:55] Any part of next week's game is going to make anyone look.

[01:33:59] I'm I'm I'm workshopping a music game for the both of you.

[01:34:02] Yes, Steve.

[01:34:03] A music that I think I think will go pretty well, but we'll have to play that.

[01:34:09] That's for another time.

[01:34:10] That's probably for next year sometime.

[01:34:11] But yeah.

[01:34:12] Okay, guys, we've had enough fun.

[01:34:14] I think on the fine time.

[01:34:16] Let's get out of here.

[01:34:17] Check the description of this podcast to find our names on social media and we'll see you

[01:34:21] next time.

[01:34:22] Bye.

[01:34:22] We'll see you next time on fine time.
