[00:04:29] they were musically. Yeah um now I'm kind of back in my regular just kind of whatever the shuffle takes me through kind of a music at the moment but fair enough. I can't stand the people who
[00:04:43] just like hate on them because they think it's like the cool thing to do you know or it's trying to be like oh I know so much more about music that's why I don't care for them. It's like guys you
[00:04:54] either they don't get it or they're just trying too hard to be contrarian you know. I agree man it's so much so much more fun to shit on bands that actually suck like buck
[00:05:06] theory. Oh god I can hear the shit on buck cherry or uh uh what's the other one that's just like them uh there's a lot of those kind of bands. It's just really same's addiction.
[00:05:23] Jay that's a lot of genes addiction isn't so bad. First up it's pretty good. Oh you just let's man name I threw out there. No as bad as fucking the uh the bad bad girlfriend song
[00:05:35] or uh what's that other one uh crazy bitch that's a stupid song. I mean we got the normal punching bags like nickel back and Creed but let's be real they're not actually that bad.
[00:05:47] They're not that good either. They're not but they're not they're not like the worst thing ever. Like is I think there's like a whole documentary being made about nickel back right now that's just
[00:05:56] basically about the hate but from what I know it doesn't actually explain why people should like you know because we lived through the whole time where like they were the easy joke right like
[00:06:08] everybody made the joke bad music nickel back how hot right and now we're trying and now we're living through this era where people are trying to make them like oh maybe they weren't so bad
[00:06:18] right people trying to make that argument now I'm in the camp they were always bad. They were always bad they always will be bad like let's just leave it okay like I can't stand
[00:06:29] check our business at all and most of those songs like they just get worse like like their first record their first like like the pre big one from like oh wonder whatever those ones
[00:06:41] are okay but then it's like once they got big they realized oh this is the formula and then they just kind of re-gergetated over and over and over again and then they tried to do one kind of weird
[00:06:53] pop record in the 2010s or something it was very weird. No fixed address yeah yeah that's a weird album and they did yeah that one at all well go for a slow if you're curious I'm a big fan of Todd
[00:07:07] Nishattos and he has a whole series called train records which is about records that were so bad they ruined bands careers and he did one on that one recently he finally did a nickel back video
[00:07:18] news great it's not as best train records but I really enjoyed it. Oh you know that's the first thing that came up as soon as I looked up and it looked like a little fixed that best train record train records.
[00:07:29] Yes that whole series is great like the one he did on a Katy Perry's record I figured what it's called but that one's really good um because I remember living through that like Katy Perry's like
[00:07:40] the beginning of the term flop era you know damn the uh this the genre was for this fucking album we're all over the place there's post grunge hard rock and then there's dance rock
[00:07:53] and the pop rock I've never heard of that rock before. There's one out there's one track on there that tries to be kind of dancey tries to have like that it's like nickel back trying to play
[00:08:04] EDM with no synths or whatever it's essentially the best way them trying to make a club track and it is very strange like apparently it had a little bit of uh TikTok virality recently
[00:08:19] you know a little bit but yeah I still don't get it I don't get why people are I don't get why people are riding die for them but whatever. Oh the other shit I was trying to think of earlier
[00:08:30] the other garbage that people should hate because it's actually bad it's like all that's uh like what was the word for it uh like that the emo wrap shit like blown on the dance floor
[00:08:45] god what's the other one? I call it the attic era yeah yeah yeah we're like 90% that the people who played in those bands or groups or whatever were sexual predators or a less oh you mean like lost profits yeah or broken site broken site as the other broken

[00:09:25] um so you might remember we did a poll a while back going over some potential puzzle games that we could talk about and I spraker one but we had two other choices there we did cover the
[00:09:38] incredible machine after yeah and we had a joke entry on there as well which uh Aaron was pulled for very hard. Was it at Aaron's suggestion we threw that one in there? No I think I threw it
[00:09:50] in there as a joke just to see if any old wood vote for it okay and Aaron came right to its defense so uh we kind of decided after he uh also ran the charge for balls and forced us to do that
[00:10:06] Jesus Christ I'm gonna be honest so what I came in and I was like gun hoover shanghai triple threat triple threat I was like do this sounds like some kind of cool action cop shooter I had no idea
[00:10:17] what the fuck it was how about Jacky Chan movie yeah exactly shanghai triple threat I thought it was gonna be like like three cops from shanghai well the shanghai china who cares three cops shanghai there they're they're fucking and clucking their way through shanghai and
[00:10:36] fucking what yeah dude let's be fair this cover art is pretty unassuming like when I saw this the first time I knew nothing about it I thought it was like some sort of beat him up or something
[00:10:49] of course you own this game oh yeah so fun fact I bought it on eBay and they said it was complete and I got the disk in the manual and apparently this is complete so
[00:11:02] they're about 80% there they're missing the box but yeah well I went on well I went on $5 for this so well I went on eBay looked at the prices for this and just went now
[00:11:14] it's like between 10 and 20 bucks now I'm like I'm not spending or you get the Saturn version for 40 bucks well I don't even have a Saturn so that'd be even better that's true but this isn't the
[00:11:29] Saturn experience so fuck that if only then I could do like a I know how to see I'm like they give me a reason to play pans is your gun yeah or knights in the dream so yeah a very divisive game
[00:11:46] people hate it some people hate boxing hate knights I know people who hate knights that's stupid they're stupid I'm skin they're not super well because it's a good game I love it it's
[00:11:56] I can see why it's polarizing it is a very polarizing experience I like it yeah I have the I have the Wii knights down there and it's it's probably the best one that's a aside from like the two
[00:12:09] platforming levels where you play is like just the kids everything's pretty good yeah it feels more like what they wanted knights to be but they just didn't have the tech yet so Shang hi triple threat
[00:12:21] for those who don't know this game if you couldn't tell by threx little banner over there this game is literally moshong like that's all it is it's like the most basic moshong game ever yes this was
[00:12:35] the era before when computers were a thing but they weren't everywhere yet and I think wasn't it Windows 95 that first introduced like having solitaire just like pre-installed on your computer
[00:12:47] and it still exists now but weirdly enough it exists now under like the Xbox banner so if you have an Xbox account like I do and you have like game pass or whatever like playing this game counts as
[00:13:01] like playing a game on game pass it has achievements you know it's it's crazy I play that solitaire every day and curious to how many hours I've put into it the fact let me check real quick
[00:13:15] because it's not too far and ah here it is let's see I've played it for three days 15 hours and 29 minutes Jesus age Christ how many hours do you think that is what 24 times 3 I don't know
[00:13:29] that's 72 so like over 80 hours I like solitaire you know and it has like leveling like every game is a fucking RPG it has like levels and like challenges and you know I try to like
[00:13:44] get the achievements and all this other crazy shit it is it is crazy like just go on your computer and get like it's called solitaire and casual games so it also has like moshong in there and everything
[00:13:57] and if you're like me and you try to do the reward points every day to try to you know eventually redeem Xbox gift cards easy way to do it is just place all tear every day isn't it then that's
[00:14:09] only it so this only the Xbox app isn't it I think yeah I think if you have game pass for PC you can download or straight from there but if you have game pass ultimate you have game pass for PC as well
[00:14:27] so what's fun about this game is you can tell how little information there is about it because if you go on the Wikipedia page they have the release date for the 3DO version as 1994 but they
[00:14:40] only give the Japanese release date not the American release date and they show the North American box art yep also this game came out on PlayStation and Saturn as Aaron mentioned along with the
[00:14:54] EC 98 and FM sounds uh you're system so in the age of 6 68 thousand we old Marty FM towns got a bus to out the Marty to play special triple threat damn right
[00:15:09] you need to bust out because you to play my my strong games you know you know the the FM towns and the 3DO have in common in Japan the thing I don't know Shanghai triple threat all that but
[00:15:22] they were also a haven for porn games so all right that's a different type of porn game triple threat so in Japan this game's known as Shanghai the Great Wall and in America it's Shanghai triple threat
[00:15:41] doesn't make any goddamn sense like yeah like and I'm a boxer I think it says 3 new games 3 new ways to play plus classic Shanghai and I'm like I didn't go too deep let's be honest I just
[00:15:55] played a couple rounds of moshan and I was like yep this is what I expected because like there's barely any menus you know just start and you're just playing the game and if you want to change
[00:16:05] anything you have to go into the menu during the game it's very weird so this game was developed by a company called success I love that name just how ironic they still are there mostly known for a
[00:16:24] series called cotton yeah the witch on the broomstick yep they also made the the zookeeper series oh and umi hara koasei and poli shit there must be there must be recent game is touched detective arena and the phungi case file on Nintendo Switch released in 2022
[00:16:47] they also did the dark spire and strangle hold what the fuck it did kingdom hearts chi is that how that's pronounced the web browser one yep it has like the X but it's not pronounced
[00:17:02] X it's pronounced chi wow in guys most importantly they did Shanghai on the Wii oh hell yes this is a perfect Wii game right here so what's fun is I was reading the manual because I have the manual
[00:17:17] and there isn't like any sort of like lots of noxas cause I mean that was just a lot there's a plot no but we do get the history of Shanghai cool like the Shanghai region of Japan
[00:17:35] all right the game series oh is this is like a long running series that has been going on since 1986 and there was like the original Shanghai they were Shanghai two Shanghai two dragons i
[00:17:51] Shanghai three and then Shanghai triple threat what's the fourth game series it's not the triple threat yeah they kind of stopped numbering them and then they'd just been kind of putting them out
[00:18:04] is Shanghai like every game series they give up numbering it after a while yeah and another thing I found really interesting too it's just looking through the manual is this game believe
[00:18:16] or not is one of the few games out there that's compatible with the 3d o mouse oh that makes sense which honestly playing it would have made this so much easier yeah if I remember the mouse is expensive yeah it's not they're hard to find yeah because
[00:18:33] shockingly nobody bought them so Aaron how much of Shanghai did you play I'm gonna tell I'm gonna be honest with you I played two matches I'm not at all I had never played
[00:18:47] Majong at all until I played this so I went into it thinking oh it's just going to be like Domino's and then it piled up all the fucking shit into a pile and I was like oh so it's not Domino's
[00:19:00] I'm not trying to make matches and it was like you cannot do that you cannot do that so I had to look up a guide on Balshong and I was like oh
[00:19:10] it had they have to be able to move from the left or right or whatever and then then I'll click in the place and I was like oh this is fun and then I got stuck because I'm pretty sure
[00:19:20] I fucked up a few pieces here and there and I got mad and quit and then I tried it a second time did the same thing got stuck they got mad and quit but it's still you never finished around
[00:19:32] no gotta read all that okay no but at least you had that pop in music in the background just to be going yeah dude in the picture the like the the 300 p photo of like the great wall of
[00:19:50] China in the background or whatever that was pretty cool or if that's even with that was there was like that I think really low-res picture of something in the background the whole time
[00:20:02] I think it was the great wall of China which would make sense with the Japanese title the great wall yeah it was some you know like graphically like this game go ahead
[00:20:14] looks fine I get I'm trying to take on yeah let's give this a tracing on those tiles man wow this game is magic I'm trying to I'm trying to get as much as I can't have it
[00:20:27] you can download this game on my abandoned wear by the way so if you were out there want to play the better version because you can use a mouse um you graphically this game looks fine it's literally moshung control-wise it's a little irritating
[00:20:42] because you gotta use the D-pad and the 3D or D-pad is not amazing as we discussed previously yeah I played this game on emulator don't don't sue me success and um using the the
[00:20:54] 8-bit do controller I had for the D-pad yet playing this game with the D-pad isn't the most satisfying thing in the world but it does the job it's not it's nothing crazy so like how the uh you could change the pointer finger to like a magic wand or
[00:21:15] I forgot what the other ship was I only ever used the finger and the magic wand but that's I mean that they had to do that but that was kind of cool I mean cool there's occasionally
[00:21:26] the little animations on the tiles when you get rid of them yeah there might be a real for it I'm not sure but every time I saw it's like I'd skit sometimes they crumble sometimes
[00:21:37] they just like get obliterated into nothing yeah just fun goofy shit yeah they try to they could make it like have some pizzazz I guess but it's moshung like what the fuck man this is where
[00:21:50] I haven't heard in a long time pizzazz okay I've heard that since little pizza cooker info where she'll think of that fucking thing I think I do yeah he can't spell his with
[00:22:03] how pizza that's true or as uh one one thing that was kind of like a little weird for me about the game I played it on my little amber nick handheld so the screen isn't like it's tiny it's
[00:22:19] about like like maybe that tall like that wide which is like you have the argy argy 353 ps okay because I have the 35 double-ax factors right here let me see that good it's about the same screen possibly yeah my charging and living room well mine as the the
[00:22:42] old SD card the SD card that came in it died so I have a new SD card that just need to like rip a UI into it I just haven't done it yeah that's the talk did you guys know that you could like
[00:22:54] speed up your cursor movement by holding down a left trigger yes I did I didn't know if you're accident it completely is useless because it makes the trigger like the cursor impossible the
[00:23:05] control so it's like nope yeah that after a minute it weirdly reminds me of this completely different if you guys have played the Atari 50 collection there's some like new reimagined games in there
[00:23:17] and one is they have like neo breakout and neo breakout the left stick is you move it kind of you can move the paddle slow but then the right stick is you can move it fast fast and it's
[00:23:30] it's so weird because that's the only thing that fucks me up is that occasionally the left one won't go fast enough to hit it so then I tried to do the right but then sometimes I overshoot it
[00:23:41] that's kind of whatever reminds me of yeah there is actually multiple music tracks in this game did you guys change that knowledge did you just stick with the default guys you start with the default I mean it is a catchy bob it's no fever no it's not but
[00:23:59] it isn't annoying to the point where you just need the mute screen that's true puzzle games need good music otherwise they're they really hurt the experience yeah nothing's worse than a puzzle game

[00:25:03] that's true it is yeah the sense um real yeah are the streams we crossed along the way they might say so uh moshong it's it's solitaire kind of yep moshong solitaire um so we have anything else to say about moshong or should we move on to a reception
[00:25:33] for this game I mean the game's fine it does what it does effectively but it definitely feels more like a PC application than like a game you would pay but they couldn't have made this
[00:25:47] full price could they like what was this a retail before back in 94 $30 which is still a lot of money yeah I feel like they sold this full price but it was such a different time back then
[00:26:01] like it's um yeah it can have been more than 30 or 40 bucks yeah what did when it 3DO games usually were they just the standard like 60 year whatever back in the day brand new I think 50 was the standard then yeah when CDs came around that's when they started creating
[00:26:22] the standard yeah because n64 games are notably more expensive because they were cartridges I believe okay um I think it was probably around like that 40 to 50 range also though 3DO wasn't standard at all so the prices might have been all over the place too
[00:26:42] that's true by the way I think I just found the next game that'll come onto this little comeback on of the show for if you've done an episode on tripped
[00:26:52] yeah yeah okay you're all toss you will link that that is exactly my kind of game just a falling block puzzle game I've seen this one I really tried with majong but holy shit number one my screen was kind of small
[00:27:10] so it was really hard to tell like which which tiles with the cool we mentioned this game this was made by the D team oh my god it was it's the one non it's like the only normal game they made
[00:27:26] a normal game it looks pretty cool it's yeah it's got yeah it's like it reminds me of warriors woods yeah i see warriors woods or like like baku mochi animal little bit Yoshi's cookie
[00:27:45] Yoshi's cookie oh my god game yeah yeah well beyond for tripped it's probably getting out of it that will do tripped at some point hell yeah I feel like at a certain point we're just gonna have to
[00:27:58] play all the 3DO games now if we're if we're doing triple threat there's only officially 251 3DO games so isn't that the point of the show to play every game and talking whatever every 3DO game well probably get there eventually if we keep this going long enough well
[00:28:19] y'all still gonna keep it mine we're eventually gonna branch off and talk about 3DO's like post console oh that's true yeah it's talked about army men on the n64 is that really a 3DO thing
[00:28:33] I was like they were like they're made series after they became a third party company was the army men series yeah well right now they released like 40 games in a year oh we like it
[00:28:45] who is a good 3DO company wow so many army men games that there was 4.5.6.7.8.9.10.11.12.13.14.15. damn only like a fraction of those are good like my favorite one wasn't even made by them it was made by pandemic oh yeah RTS I love that game I love that game
[00:29:17] the sneak peek for our eventual army men episode but uh so ones that were considered good were RTS and the air attack games in particular were seen is really good well we got to do surges heroes
[00:29:32] surges heroes those are like no there's a main there's the main ones those are the ones people remember surges heroes one I will give some defense to that game held up better than I think people
[00:29:45] like to say it's got to play better than it does on the n64 because I had a friend 64 and playing that game on that console was a miserable experience so I have it on the dreamcast and it's actually
[00:29:57] not a bad time okay I know we're supposed to be talking about moshong and shanghai and china and shid but it was also there to say I didn't realize that the 3DO company also published the
[00:30:13] heroes of might and magic game that's good so they actually bought the creator of that series new world computing 3DO also made the first like one of the first mMOs I can't remember the name
[00:30:30] right now but it was a very early mMO. Counts and coys are no i'm stroking. I have that game. We'll get to the end with the vetch. Cabin coys are as an interesting one here let me show you the cover.

[00:31:15] That's not the mascot for the 3DO is our bro the dude myor. A fucking triangle yes that's the main character an icebreaker the guy you play as his name is
[00:31:29] dude myor that's a cannon. That's cool yeah just just a catch a gun from that mmo I mentioned it's called Meridian 59 and it was like it was like one of the first like Evo mose and 3DO made it.
[00:31:46] Was that was that before or after ever quest? I think around the set it was so it was 96. Yeah. So around that time okay I mean I'll know and ever quest okay so it was the first
[00:31:59] 3D graphical mmo. Oh ever quest was 99 damn I thought it was earlier in that. Oh man almost going. So going back to Shanghai real quick I was reception wise there's only really ratings for the 3DO version all game gave this game 3 and 2 and next generation gave it
[00:32:28] a solid 3 stars. Calling it very solitary but incredibly absorbing. Yes like a sponge. In other words it's mosh on what else is there to say? Like it it's like regular solids here where
[00:32:46] we're so used to playing it on a computerized version that the idea of playing it in real life just seems totally weird like I don't know if you guys have ever tried to play a game of
[00:32:57] solitaire like with a deck of cards it's weird it's very weird. Yeah I think it'll fly towards the screen when you finish. I don't get I don't get hints. You know get windows going
[00:33:14] did it when you went. I don't get to raise horses or level up my horses or breed horses. I know exactly what you're talking about. That's a throw up yep yep I'm not going to say it. That's a great game. Build you know?

[00:34:16] when you're playing on a screen that's not a fucking TV all the Kanji or characters whatever you call them in Chinese they all kind of look the same and sometimes that's really hard to tell a difference between
[00:34:27] like a piece and the game that's but this game doesn't translate well onto a flat screen. And also I think it's Chinese not Japanese because Kanji is Japanese. I'll fuck my bad. It's okay. It's some to be fair. I don't know what I would use for like
[00:34:48] oh what's the name of Chinese characters. I have no idea. Honzy is it Honzy? I'm not sure our buddies Rick or Drake could probably tell us another learning Japanese or no. Yeah but I'm asking about Chinese. Well they actually don't learn it one day apparently.
[00:35:08] What I'm not doing from these weirdos. I believe it kind of relates because one of the Japanese forms of characters are related to like the Chinese ones in a series. Oh yeah well all
