[00:01:32] your belt sir but uh yeah how are you man I'm good I'm good I'm glad to be on the show

[00:01:39] hell yeah man I've I've seen you around a lot I think I think I started following you on

[00:01:46] good pods like way back when I first stole when Tommy and I first started SuperPod Saga

[00:01:52] and uh but meaning to ask you on but your show is like huge and ours is just like this little peasant

[00:01:58] show it's all facade it's not huge oh man I think I saw him once too but I think you he was

[00:02:06] sneaking a pizza into a sewer or something yeah yeah but of course so we've got we've got

[00:02:13] Thrac the Sir Thrackington the the fourth himself the who's one through three your your grandfathers

[00:02:22] and and fathers and uh other other great grandfather they're all dead

[00:02:31] oh yes yes I'm back hey everybody um for the topic today of course I had to show up for this one

[00:02:38] so here we are I started playing no more here is three so yeah that's what I'm playing at the moment

[00:02:47] hell yeah I uh I'm gonna try I gave up on the Kirby thing already uh after amazing mirror I was I was

[00:02:54] done maybe Dreamland 3 because Dreamland 3 is actually really fucking cool I do like Dreamland

[00:02:59] 3 but then I was like ooh breath of fire sounds really fucking good too I think it was for

[00:03:03] for some breath of fire oh yes I love some horrible enemy encounter rates myself hey it's not that bad

[00:03:09] it's not that bad it's not that good either okay you're out of the show uh today uh today we're

[00:03:19] talking about the the Sonic series kind of we're talking about the 2d Sonic games for right now

[00:03:24] because if we tried to talk about like every Sonic game like 2d 3d maybe even like the

[00:03:31] racing games and the olympic shit uh we'd be here for way longer than I honestly a week a whole week

[00:03:41] I could spend at least 20 minutes on Sonic dash oh boy is that a is that a mobile one that sounds

[00:03:46] like a mobile that that's basically the end that's the endless runner Sonic game okay okay well

[00:03:52] yes I've yes I've played a lot of it it sounds like you have yeah it's an easy toilet game

[00:04:01] you just just bring your amber nick with you on the toilet and you can you can blast no it's on my

[00:04:05] phone no use use pull out your phone you know and use play it okay we're in on well

[00:04:11] rafael tell us all about yourself any games you like your your podcasts if you have a stream

[00:04:17] plug that whatever you got tell us tell us all about it well yeah yeah I have the geeky dad podcast

[00:04:23] and uh we did a little spin off of that after it didn't kind of well and we did uh the geeky

[00:04:29] dad after dark basically the geeky dad podcast is just me and my kids we review the latest

[00:04:37] movie the latest tv show animated movie or cartoon whatever and uh you know we get the

[00:04:45] opinions from the dad and from the kids and uh we did the geeky dad after dark which is basically me

[00:04:52] uh talking about the things that I can't talk about with the kids so uh that's that's the two

[00:04:59] shows and then we have another show called the multiverse kids show where we actually do video

[00:05:05] game reviews that's cool yeah with the kids very busy yeah I try I don't know how you folks

[00:05:17] more than one podcast do it I I feel like I say this every every episode but I can barely handle just

[00:05:24] the one show like there's so there's rafael he's got three bill has three who else has a bunch

[00:05:33] Dave is two I have two yeah yeah all and a stream now and I get and I guess and I and I show up for

[00:05:41] this shit I come out of my cave yeah well to be to be fair erin you're doing all of this yourself

[00:05:49] and we're just kind of like showing up to shoot the shit so I probably see why it's a lot for you

[00:05:54] you know and and as I've said before I've offered to help bill on our show but he's just like

[00:06:00] nah because because we'll do that pod and then when we're done we'll just be like chatting after

[00:06:06] and he'll just be like yeah it's done and ready it's already uploaded he doesn't even like the

[00:06:11] seed is the seeds just uploaded unedited yeah he'll slap the intro and outro on it and then

[00:06:17] just puts it in there there was one time he had to do an edit but he usually just leaves it as

[00:06:22] is okay cool and yeah it's been a hot minute since you were on I think uh last time you were on

[00:06:27] for like a like a main a mainline episode was uh the 361 uh oh yeah that yeah I wasn't gonna say dumps

[00:06:35] to fire but that's not accurate no that was good I think it's just because Nate was there so

[00:06:40] they've made it chaotic like like he does yeah well Thurak yeah plug all your stuff I mean you

[00:06:47] kind of have already but yeah go ahead and plug your stuff a little more talk about any games you like

[00:06:51] uh yeah yeah well it's Thurak everybody hey buddy I am the co-host of the 3DO experience with Bill

[00:07:00] where we discuss the history of the 3DO play the games all that good stuff at the time of

[00:07:06] recording our next episode is going to be about gex for finally doing gex so I've beaten it

[00:07:12] I've beaten it and I do have some things to say I won't get into too much detail here but

[00:07:20] I will say I did like it I really liked it that's cool so there's that I am also the co-host of the

[00:07:26] frame by frame analysis of king crimson podcast which is hopefully going to start having a little

[00:07:31] bit more regularity um the next step actually the most recent episode for that came out as

[00:07:38] today the recording of this episode the 25th so so it's out there it's it's part two of that

[00:07:44] gap between red and discipline where we talk about what John Wheton and Bill Bruehfer were doing so

[00:07:50] UK, Bruehford, solo stuff we even bring up Asia a little bit you know a bit of a smorgasbord to

[00:07:57] kind of get everything before we hit into the 80s and I'm now streaming on twitch

[00:08:03] so every Wednesday evening you can head to my twitch channel twitch.tv slash thrac94

[00:08:09] and watch me play Sega Genesis games I've been a huge fan of the Sega gen- in fact the Sega Genesis

[00:08:15] is what got me into gaming which is appropriate for the topic of this episode yeah so I've been a

[00:08:23] fan of it forever I've always had a Genesis and loved playing the games and when I saw Jeff Gertzman

[00:08:30] playing and ranking the NES catalog I was like ooh I'll take that idea but make it

[00:08:35] Sega Genesis so I'm totally not ripping them off guys actually so yeah so I'm about three episodes

[00:08:42] in it's been it's been a lot of fun the view count on all of them is I find kind of strange

[00:08:48] but still thank you all for watching I appreciate it so yeah I'm a busy boy

[00:08:53] busy boy playing all these games so and it and if you're interested if you want to

[00:08:58] request games for me to play on that stream if you go to my twitter which is also at

[00:09:03] thrac94 there's a pin tweet and you could comment on that pin tweets however many games you want me

[00:09:08] to play I don't care if they're good bad somewhere in the middle I don't care just put it in there

[00:09:12] and I will add it to the list sounds good hey do you have any recommendations for them

[00:09:19] well I'm sorry I'll be putting you on the spot it's all good sorry he's more of a

[00:09:26] turbo graphics guy no no I mean actually never played turbo graphics actually couldn't afford it at the time

[00:09:35] me as a kid yeah I didn't even know what existed when I was a kid well I I think I saw one once

[00:09:42] a long time ago but I never bothered with it and I kind of regret it but it's so easy to emulate

[00:09:48] now it's not a big right by the way I had no idea thrac is your is your are you named after

[00:09:55] the king crimson album thrac yes is that okay yes okay I it's so funny how some people don't get that

[00:10:05] even though I didn't come up with that name until after the after the the crimson show started

[00:10:14] so in some of the early episodes I say my my real first name but yeah okay I won't say it here

[00:10:21] that's fine no it's okay I uh earlier when you uh you're talking about being more regular

[00:10:27] I almost made a poop joke but I won't because we're way too sophisticated here

[00:10:31] that's why I refuse I promise you those those are very regular for me

[00:10:40] but up but up super pod hey so yeah today we're talking about no I already said it yeah we're

[00:10:45] talking about the 2d sonic games yeah I uh I didn't do a q&a for this one because I mean

[00:10:53] wait what else is there really to say about sonic if anybody wants to read me about not

[00:10:57] having a q&a for this episode just hit me up on discord I'll you can just take a free

[00:11:03] punch to my stomach if you want I apologize but but uh yeah 2d sonic yeah that's uh

[00:11:10] everybody knows sonic uh the sonic ones they're I know those are the good ones I actually like

[00:11:17] the 2d better than the 3d ones yeah yeah most people say that I understand why as a

[00:11:24] a big son I'm actually wearing a sonic shirt right now so to show my fandom um as somebody who

[00:11:31] like sonic's always been there it's always been a series I've played

[00:11:34] the 2d games are more consistently strong than the uh the 3d ones yeah and and and I get it I get it

[00:11:41] even as somebody who defends the 3d games because they're not all bad they're not and and even by

[00:11:46] that token not all the 2d ones are bad because you have those people who are like sonic was never

[00:11:51] good and those idiots who I just I think just they just don't get it you know like just sonic

[00:11:58] never clicked with them and so they just feed into the meme of it yeah I get sonic is probably one

[00:12:04] of the easiest memeable characters of all time but I thought he was like uh he was very revolutionary

[00:12:10] when he first came out yeah oh yeah oh here's the one with the attitude he was the he was the cool

[00:12:16] mascot mario was like the kitty mascot like oh that's the kitty console second genesis oh yeah

[00:12:24] sonic had more uh character like like he was a more of a developed character than mario because

[00:12:31] mario was basically like a drone when he moved around sonic had like personality you know yeah

[00:12:38] yeah and it's crazy I think that the genesis was by the time sonic one came out the genesis

[00:12:43] had been out for quite a few years and it just it didn't have an identity yet like there were

[00:12:48] solid games on the genesis pre sonic but it still didn't have really it's defining characteristic

[00:12:55] and then when sonic came around that's what it was and that's why sega like overtook nintendo for a while

[00:13:02] like if I remember when the super nintendo first came out people really didn't want one because

[00:13:08] despite it being a great console with a bunch of great games on it sonic was the new hot thing

[00:13:13] and people wanted to play that over say like a mario world yeah I mean the main reason I got a sega

[00:13:21] to begin with was because of sonic it's so it's so weird to think that like alex kid and and rye star

[00:13:28] were the were the sega mascots for a little bit was like right rye star was after sonic really oh

[00:13:37] yeah like rye star was well rye star was one of the original concepts for sonic because the story is

[00:13:44] they had like alex kid is their de facto mascot which didn't really work some people would try to

[00:13:50] argue opa opa was their mascot and that's the little ship in fantasy zone yeah again not really and then

[00:13:58] the the company held like a a mascot contest where it's like here like create a character

[00:14:04] to be like our mascot to compete with mario basically and there were please do our job for us

[00:14:12] basically basically um and there was a few different options like there was um one that became dr

[00:14:19] robotnik that was like a teddy roosevelt looking dude and like pajamas that became

[00:14:23] really like teddy roosevelt he does but there was one that was a rabbit that grabbed things

[00:14:29] with its ears okay that character is what evolved into rye star because rye star is like the weird

[00:14:36] star thing that grabs things you know that's okay he doesn't just grab him he like tickles him

[00:14:40] he like stretchy arms and tickles yeah he he stretchy arms and then just forces his body

[00:14:45] into him so they just fly around the screen it's awesome um rye stars sound like a pedophile

[00:14:52] kind of yeah in star form yeah right rye star is a cool ass game um but that was adapted in I

[00:14:57] think like 95 so sonic became the character off of um I forget the guy's name who originally drew him

[00:15:04] but I think he also worked on superstars recently but um his original name was mr needle mouse wow

[00:15:14] good thing they changed that name oh yeah could you imagine like mario versus needle mouse

[00:15:20] yeah the um the guy who who designed sonic his name was naoto oshima that's right thank you yeah

[00:15:30] yeah fuck man the first sonic game is on basically everything mobile phones it's on like every

[00:15:36] fucking virtual console for like every nintendo or uh virtual console for every nintendo console

[00:15:42] it's on they've done like a million of the uh the the genesis compilations for different consoles and

[00:15:50] stuff it's uh if you haven't played it I'd be very surprised and it has an infamous gameboy advanced

[00:15:57] port yeah infamous is it bad oh it's terrible it came out it came out the same day as sonic 06

[00:16:06] and yeah it's it's now I think referred to as sonic genesis and it is a horrible

[00:16:13] gameboy advanced conversion of that game like the music is bad the the gameplay is super slow it is

[00:16:20] it is one of the worst port jobs I've ever seen yes slow should never go with sonic yeah oh sonic

[00:16:27] the hedgehog genesis is what it's referred to as and like to this day nobody really knows who made

[00:16:33] it the credit like the only credits in the game are like the original games credits and people have

[00:16:38] dug to find out who did this remaster but there's no confirmation of it but there is one bright spot

[00:16:45] out of this gba port and that is a guy by the name of stealth went ahead and took the rom and then

[00:16:53] hacked it to make it work on the gba like he fixed it and made it work he just did green hill

[00:16:59] zone but he like proved that you could actually port this game to the gba and have it be more faithful

[00:17:06] and this man named stealth became noted for many years later being one of the main guys who worked

[00:17:10] on sonic mania now that's cool I don't know if i'm imagining this but was there ever a code

[00:17:18] in the first sonic game to get supersonic from the beginning no because supersonic was not in

[00:17:25] the original sonic game okay because it's one I saw some kind of that might have been maybe put in later

[00:17:33] could have been like a rom hack or something but the original sonic the hedgehog does not have

[00:17:38] supersonic in fact it doesn't even have seven chaos emeralds it only has six and the only thing

[00:17:43] it changes when you beat the game is how many flowers you get at the end screen

[00:17:50] so just the second one had supersonic yes and that's when they added the seventh chaos emerald

[00:17:55] and then you could be supersonic yes yeah and tails oh yeah now who's your favorite sidekick

[00:18:03] oh that's tough oh you had to ask that oh man um

[00:18:12] i kind of like um like favorite side character in the sonic series right in the 2d

[00:18:17] i kind of like uh who's the the chameleon guy from spio yeah i kind of i love spio

[00:18:26] spio is great i'm not a fan of chaotix though but he's cool spio is cool i've always like knuckles

[00:18:32] i've always thought knuckles is pretty fascinating character i mean tails is great and who doesn't

[00:18:37] love tails tails yeah right he can be annoying at times but yeah he's cool yeah but you know

[00:18:42] he's like your little brother right right i mean i can't stand a me though yeah Amy sucks

[00:18:52] jinx dude you'll be a root beer uh how about a phanta i can't find one

[00:18:59] oh fuck dude um it's uh yeah it's weird that there's what's yeah for the first two sonic games

[00:19:07] there were like two different versions kind of like there was the the genesis version

[00:19:13] or mega drive and then there was like the master system and game gear versions that were like slower

[00:19:18] and focused more on exploration well the the well the 8 bit sonic one is a completely different game

[00:19:24] oh like like it's it's a complete redesign um that is um made with the hardware of the

[00:19:31] master system in mind it had a completely different developer excuse me shitty burp sorry um

[00:19:38] that's because sonic one was obviously made by sonic team um but the 8 bit sonic was made by

[00:19:44] ancient which was a different uh sonic developer they made like i think they're more more known

[00:19:49] for converting genesis games to the master system but they also did stuff like street to reach 2

[00:19:56] and stuff and oh they did beyond oasis yeah that's how i know them fuck love that game anyway

[00:20:02] it's good um but yeah if you if you haven't played the 8 bit uh sonic one i'd recommend it it's really

[00:20:07] cool and it's as far as i know the only sonic game with an autoscroll level which is weird but

[00:20:14] it's a it's a very good game for for trying to convert sonic to the master system or the

[00:20:20] game gear there's the same game is there is there much more to be said about the first sonic

[00:20:24] like do you want to keep talking about that or it's a it's a very good game i don't think it's the best

[00:20:30] of the genesis games i just think it's a level pacing isn't the best and you can tell that despite

[00:20:36] the game being toted as being very fast and having a lot of speed which it does at its core it's

[00:20:42] just another 2d platformer of that era like it's closer to say like the mario games than

[00:20:47] the later sonic games are you know which which isn't a bad thing but um well i always thought

[00:20:52] it was better than some of the mario games though i can see that uh like but but with sonic one it's

[00:20:58] like you play green hill and green hill is so amazing right fantastic yeah and then you go into

[00:21:02] marble zone and marble zone completely kills any momentum that you have because it's very slow

[00:21:08] and plotting and all that and i know a lot of people who have struggled to get past marble

[00:21:13] because of that the water level was the one that i didn't labyrinth yeah labyrinth zone sucks

[00:21:19] the chemical zone always fucks me up too when i you do that part where it fills up with that blue

[00:21:23] liquid i i fucking oh yeah yeah where's the one with the vegas uh place all the casino that's

[00:21:29] yeah that's sonic two okay if you're thinking a casino night i love but but in sonic one like

[00:21:34] spring yard zone is great starlight zones fantastic oh yeah even and even starlight zone

[00:21:39] yeah yeah everyone loves starlight zone and scrap brain's just kind of eh

[00:21:43] you know it's not great um the special stages in sonic one aren't the best

[00:21:48] but you know it's it's a fine game it's not a bad game at all but and i could see at the time

[00:21:54] it's different enough to stand out from everything especially when probably the most contemporary

[00:21:59] mario game at that point was probably mario three right i think so yeah i think so yeah i think

[00:22:05] this came out before the super nintendo came out what i originally was 91 yeah what i originally

[00:22:11] liked about that first sonic game was it was the first time i saw like like the little character

[00:22:16] actually had a motion when he got hit oh yeah or yeah if you did movie started getting angry

[00:22:24] with you oh yeah we tapped the foot yeah that's like yeah i think i think the most ever got with

[00:22:30] mario in like say super mario world was like when you get hit once you know he just like does that

[00:22:36] do the dino land and then and then and then and then and then and then and then mario just looks

[00:22:39] like distraught but yeah like sonic has like cool idol animations when you get hit he's like oh no

[00:22:44] and then mario had no like emotion he was like a zombie yeah sonic's got attitude man he's hip with

[00:22:51] the kids yeah sonic one is still like even if it's not the best sonic game it's still

[00:22:58] really fucking solid like it's still fun to play come back to when you start going around

[00:23:02] those curls it's really like gets really fun yeah dude i love those little yeah it has those

[00:23:10] real it has some like bright moments moments where you're like fuck yeah sonic baby but it is filled

[00:23:15] with other moments that are just kind of eh but i think when you get like a like almost 99 coins

[00:23:21] and then you lose all of it right away yeah dude yeah it has its issues but it's still a solid game

[00:23:29] but if we move into say sonic 2 sonic 2 is yeah heads head and shoulders above that's that's my favorite

[00:23:36] one yeah it's not my favorite but it is up there yeah sonic 2 is a fantastic game i mean it's the

[00:23:43] first game i played for my genesis stream just because it made sense to start with a big one you

[00:23:47] know that game i was always playing as uh tails over yours the second player yeah for some reason

[00:23:56] yeah tails controls kind of meh and that at least for me um i think like sonic 3

[00:24:05] tails feels more like a true second player but but yeah sonic 2 ah what a great game is that the one

[00:24:11] with metal sonic yes oh yeah it introduces supersonic it introduces metal sonic you have the seven

[00:24:18] seven chaos emeralds um they get the level pacing a lot better because in sonic 1 there

[00:24:23] was three acts for every zone here there's just two acts and then the end of the second act is the boss

[00:24:28] except for metropolis zone which fucking sucks all those cool special stages too like when you're in

[00:24:33] like the half pipe yep oh yeah the beginning yeah the beginning of the overused half pipe uh like

[00:24:40] like there's so many sonic games that just use the half pipe as the special stage

[00:24:44] which is it's perfectly fine um i get i get why but i remember as a kid i couldn't get past the

[00:24:51] i think it was the third one and the third one is when they had the uh the the giant circle of

[00:24:56] bombs coming at you and the the stage kept moving around so you couldn't really like

[00:25:02] guess when it was gonna show up like that always messed with me as a kid um and basically for me

[00:25:08] sonic 1 from emerald hill to oil ocean is like perfect and then at metropolis zone is where

[00:25:16] it's like cracks really start to show so i think metropolis zone's level design is just not really

[00:25:21] that good and it goes for three acts for no reason and just some really horrible enemy placement and

[00:25:27] those horrible um like well like grasshopper things that throw the the metal claws at you and the

[00:25:33] home in on you really annoying uh oh yeah yeah like like just the game ends kind of weak which

[00:25:40] is such a shame because it starts out so strong you know and really just carries that momentum through

[00:25:47] most of the game but i think the game is so good it makes up for those kind of ify or later stages

[00:25:51] because you can figure them out once you play the game enough so and yeah this game is notable for

[00:25:58] being um where because sonic 1 was made in japan was sonic team right and then during this game

[00:26:05] there was sort of tension between like sega and like the dev team and so like half of the dev team

[00:26:12] went to america and formed the sega technical institute and they're the ones who made sonic

[00:26:17] 2 while the the japanese group the the japanese team that stayed behind worked on what would become

[00:26:23] sonic cd oh i didn't know that that's cool really yeah yeah because um did you had um the original

[00:26:30] creator uh oshima or oshina i yeah no to oshima oshima yeah he he stayed behind but um on the other

[00:26:38] side of like the sonic team you had yuji naka who was the the programmer um like a kind of a

[00:26:44] workhorse programmer at sega at the time um and he was the one who kind of got um sonic working

[00:26:51] just right as far as like getting the speed and the feel like really really good and like

[00:26:56] the physics really strong because i i can't agree when people say the physics and sonic aren't great

[00:27:02] because it could just be i'm used to them but they feel perfectly fine to me and yuji naka is kind of

[00:27:08] the reason why they work so well um and yeah and he went with the team to uh to form sega technical

[00:27:14] institute in i think it was in san francisco um where like sega of america was so and they

[00:27:19] were the ones who made sonic 2 and then later sonic 3 and sonic and knuckles like how do you

[00:27:24] know so much i'm a die i'm a diehard sonic fan buddy that's why erin asked me to do this

[00:27:30] yeah i'm glad because i don't know nothing yeah i don't know nearly as much as he does i just

[00:27:36] know they're good yeah it is sonic sonic is a fascinating series to read about because it has a

[00:27:42] lot of tumultuous history as well because like the mario games are so shrouded in secrecy

[00:27:48] you know we really don't know much of what's what happens behind the scenes on those games like

[00:27:54] whereas with sonic we kind of know everything um and yeah i've just i've been a sonic fan for years

[00:28:00] so just me being me i naturally get curious and just look these things up as i say to most people

[00:28:06] it's my curse that's fine man my my brain is full of a of useless fucking yu gui o garbage

[00:28:15] that uh can only be used for yu gui o and just like lots of random fucking hidden gems for like

[00:28:22] any fucking system so it yeah we all go hard versus well i have a decent stack of yu gui o cards so

[00:28:29] if i ever drive out to iowa i'm bringing that stack with me you fucking bet i mean i don't have any

[00:28:35] any physical cards i can just borrow your cards yeah we could probably make two decks out of it

[00:28:41] i've played yu gui o before i'll teach you how to play like fucking high tier yu gui o man

[00:28:46] hand traps speed or um not speed um spell speeds all that shit yeah i'll know any of that means

[00:28:52] okay all right that's fine i'm i'm clueless myself

[00:28:58] none of this wee bullshit we gotta talk about sonic yeah i'm not in the game

[00:29:03] fuck yu gui o we're talking sonic oh yeah let me some sonic too yeah yeah it is cool it's uh

[00:29:10] gotta burp real fast did you guys hear that burp no okay cool i i muted my mic and then burped

[00:29:17] and i saw it on the wave the waveform thing so okay cool just be me leave him in

[00:29:24] should makes it more real that's true makes him more human yeah mother fucker human

[00:29:32] then human oh yeah yeah real real players know if you're a i i mean tommy tommy was a i was gonna say

[00:29:39] yeah i don't have tommy on the show anymore everybody swore up and down tommy was like an

[00:29:45] a i or a robot or some shit yeah but then i saw a picture of him holding um like an ultrasound

[00:29:53] of his of his new child and i'm like man these deepfakes are getting crazy

[00:29:59] oh sonic too was awesome though fuck i

[00:30:06] i love throwing stupid transitions in adult fucking conversations

[00:30:12] speaking of giving birth second gave birth to sonic too

[00:30:16] low and but and the lord said on the third day let there be sonic too with sweet fucking bonus

[00:30:23] stages and then bam sonic too and then yeah yeah well and well and since we're at sonic too i guess

[00:30:30] we didn't mention it with sonic one bill mention it here the uh the composer for both game soundtracks

[00:30:36] because the sonic games are known for their soundtracks and that's something everybody's like

[00:30:40] yeah the soundtracks slap and for the first two they were done by a man named masato nakamura

[00:30:46] who is a member of a band called dreams come true which is a very big uh japanese pop band

[00:30:53] i believe that's cool and and he was brought on to compose the music for sonic one and sonic two

[00:30:59] and both of those soundtracks are available in streaming services i believe so if you want

[00:31:03] to hear chemical plant which why wouldn't you can just you know pop it in your playlist

[00:31:08] and there you go um and yeah i love those i love those two soundtracks two bits like i just i know them

[00:31:14] so well that's one thing that sonic has always had over i get even leaving like mario no matter

[00:31:20] how bad a sonic game can be it's got a rip roar and ass soundtrack like sonic 06 like sure it's a mess

[00:31:28] but the soundtrack is fucking good it's pretty good yeah yeah and i think the stand

[00:31:34] and i think the standard was set with these first two games from uh mr. nakamura like really

[00:31:40] really not gonna have the park yeah one of these days all uh i don't think i've ever beaten a 2d

[00:31:45] sonic game what i don't think really really i'll get far even the first one i don't think so i tend

[00:31:53] to get like like far into it and especially like back in the day when i played them on genesis i'd

[00:31:58] get far into them and then either i'd have to i'd be playing at like at a cousin's house or an

[00:32:04] uncle's house and i'd have to go home and then i'd be like well fuck i guess the fuck me and then

[00:32:10] here i am 32 or 33 years old i don't remember i'm uh i still haven't been a sonic game but uh maybe

[00:32:18] maybe that's maybe maybe april is 2d sonic month for me that isn't a knowing thing about

[00:32:25] the genesis sonic games well at least for the first two there's no way to save yeah we're gonna like

[00:32:30] pass words or something yeah i mean there are there is a stage select code for both games right

[00:32:37] yeah but you know unless you had knowledge of that you wouldn't know so but thankfully with like

[00:32:43] sonic 3 they added in the uh the same feature which was very helpful and then we get to sonic 3

[00:32:49] or do you want to talk about cd first oh fuck sorry i always forget sonic cd came first uh

[00:32:57] sonic cd i still haven't played that one yeah that was the one being made by the japanese team

[00:33:04] that stayed behind and that was essentially their sonic 2 quote unquote and it explains why

[00:33:10] say the the sprite they use of sonic is the sonic one sprite and why it's it's kind of different

[00:33:17] from the the i guess the main line genesis sonic games it it's still a sonic game at the end of the day but

[00:33:23] they take advantage of the cd based technology by having like these big levels like they're probably

[00:33:30] too big to be honest and you have like all the different time travel stuff you have like the fmv

[00:33:35] opening and closing which are actually really cool um then you have the um the the cd base

[00:33:41] the cd audio so you have like sonic boom you know that that opening bit and then you have the

[00:33:47] different soundtracks like the japanese one which is like a like a rave dance club type sound yeah

[00:33:52] they're so fucking good dude oh it slaps and then you have the north american one which

[00:33:57] feels more like 90s midi music you know what i mean it's still very good yeah it's still

[00:34:04] very good both are good in their own right um and yeah that's great but like the sprite is cool

[00:34:09] it's a very colorful game but the levels are just too maze and maze like in cryptic for me okay you know

[00:34:17] they it just feels like they're like oh oh we can make these levels twice as big we're just gonna

[00:34:23] fucking do it man oh and then they do it and it's like oh these aren't as fun and then you have all

[00:34:28] the time traveling mechanic of the past and the future and it makes the game a little too ambitious

[00:34:37] you know but it still plays like this one out oh yeah i mean it's still a 2d sonic game during the

[00:34:43] genesis era so it's not a bad game but it's it can be a little rough and they've released it on quite a

[00:34:50] bit now too like it's on uh what is the new one it's uh sonic super sonic sonic uh origins

[00:34:58] oh is it on there i know he did a collection one time yeah let me find it again i didn't think

[00:35:04] i didn't think cd was on origins because i know with sonic cd that was the first like christian white

[00:35:09] head port and that one was released on like most things like i'm pretty sure you could get like

[00:35:15] sonic cd by itself on like the ps4 or something yeah for the longest time you could get um oh

[00:35:22] shit yeah sonic cd is on there yeah for before sonic origins came out you could buy sonic or

[00:35:28] sonic cd separate on like the the 360 marketplace because they had like the 360 360 arcade all those

[00:35:36] good things but uh yeah once origins came out they were like they were like take that off

[00:35:41] yeah that was that that whole situation is weird i don't know if origins has been fixed or not but

[00:35:46] i think i'm pretty sure i remember i follow the website nintendo life because i'm stupid i don't know

[00:35:54] uh it's fine that's fine i know i'm just i'm just being i'm also being stupid nintendo life is a

[00:36:02] cool website i frequent that quite a bit because uh it's why not man anyway yeah they they they were

[00:36:08] followed the sonic origins staying quite a bit and they said hey like it's it's it's better it's

[00:36:13] playable now it's better so yeah i mean if you're gonna play if you're gonna play like the

[00:36:19] i guess like the first four sonic games counting sega or sonic cd as uh as one of those first four

[00:36:25] is that the pattern where the last couple of sonic games too like they keep on saying oh it's better now

[00:36:31] yeah yeah dude yeah like yeah yeah they release in like rough states and then they're like oh

[00:36:36] shit we have to go fix it i think i don't know why they keep doing that it's just it's just an

[00:36:42] issue with gaming these days man for better or for worse yeah like the uh like when they did the

[00:36:49] silent hill um remasters for like 360 and ps3 and the hd collection of yeah and people were like this

[00:36:57] fog isn't fucking foggy enough or like well that is a bad port job though yeah yeah it's silent hill

[00:37:04] supposed to be foggy god damn it but that's not on but that's not on the studio themselves

[00:37:09] that's on kinami because famously kinami did not have the source code for silent hills two

[00:37:16] and three like the completed source code all the all they had was like all they had was alpha builds

[00:37:22] and they gave it to like a brand new studio who had no experience in any of this and said here you go

[00:37:27] make it work and they tried their best you can tell they tried their best but it's

[00:37:33] it's not really a good way to play those games unfortunately like for me i think if kinami

[00:37:39] was smart they would uh contact m2 a studio that they work with a lot of emulation port studio

[00:37:47] they're probably the best in the biz and say hey guys let's do a team silent collection silent hills

[00:37:54] one through four and you guys like make the emulators and then get them working like just

[00:38:00] just do emulated versions of them like that that would be fine like maybe upscale them through

[00:38:05] that and it'd be fine yeah so kinami if you're listening you can take that idea i don't want any

[00:38:12] credit and then uh yeah and anything else you guys want to say about sonic cd before we move on to

[00:38:21] uh to sonic chaos and sonic cd is okay could be worse what's the sonic cd like uh based off uh

[00:38:30] there was an anime movie that came out at the same time i think there was um that might explain the

[00:38:36] fmv intros and outros that have like that anime look to them i don't know if they're directly connected

[00:38:42] but there's probably some because metal sonic was the villain in that one yes well it was where

[00:38:49] we first saw like metal sonic as he as we know him because sonic twos version of metal sonic

[00:38:55] he just kind of looks like the sonic one sprite right like metal whereas in sonic cd he looks like

[00:39:01] the metal sonic that we know today that's where they got the design just right and sonic cd was the

[00:39:06] introduction of amy oh first appearance oh god damn it was she had no ink and there too

[00:39:12] yeah i mean she she's only really in sonic cd to be like the princess peach like oh save me save me

[00:39:20] and sonic's like yeah way past cool i'll see you know it's cool sonic chaos i'm just kidding

[00:39:26] i'm never really talking about sonic chaos might as well it's on there um i've never played

[00:39:32] sonic chaos it's fine it's the first original sonic game for the master system game gear stuff

[00:39:40] sure like the world the master system version never came out outside of powell regions

[00:39:44] because the master system is famously popular in europe and brazil um so we got the game

[00:39:49] gear version and it's the same game but smaller resolution it's all those like game gear sonic

[00:39:54] games are fine you know like i like that eight bit sonic one but all the others like two chaos

[00:40:01] triple trouble all that is fine fine i guess but but there there no super mario land too

[00:40:11] that's true that's true yeah yeah sega didn't really prioritize the development of games for

[00:40:17] their handheld consoles the way nintendo did and you could argue sony had the same issue with the

[00:40:23] psb oh my god and judging by how they just like dropped the vita yeah oh yeah that that just

[00:40:31] disappeared yeah it's because nintendo used their handheld games up in like the same prestige

[00:40:39] as their home console games which is why like the game boys and the ds is like sold really well

[00:40:45] yeah i mean some of those things that they do in the 3ds are crazy like there was one game i had to

[00:40:51] like blow into it yeah blow to the mic yeah we you had a few of those too yeah well uh moving on from

[00:41:00] sonic chaos because i mean there's not much else to say it's just sonic on game gear wahoo

[00:41:07] wow we have we have what kind of included in one sonic and sorry sonic three and sonic and knuckles

[00:41:14] yeah they're yeah it's essentially part one and part two these two um yeah like sonic three took a

[00:41:21] long time um for its era like so i never finished sonic three did it end in the cliffhanger or something

[00:41:30] it kind of does like the ending of sonic three spoilers is you're fighting robot nick right and

[00:41:37] then you like when he's like the death egg is launching but you sort of like jump onto it

[00:41:42] and you fight robot nick and he has like this weird spiked hat thing in his like normal uh robot

[00:41:49] that he rides in and like giant arms and so you you beat him and then your little platform flies

[00:41:55] off the death egg and then you watch the death egg crash into like a volcano or something right

[00:42:00] and it and it has the vibe of like oh we did it but i don't know because uh sonic and knuckles

[00:42:06] starts out with that same scene like the death egg crashing into the volcano so it's like oh there's

[00:42:12] more to this um okay because yeah sonic three is as a much if you include it sonic and knuckles together

[00:42:19] it's like one big game yeah basically and that was the original idea was to have sonic three be this

[00:42:24] like big sprawling epic adventure and like the development was taking a while um and the game

[00:42:31] was gonna be too big for a cartridge uh studying studying wikipedia thank you wikipedia yeah the

[00:42:37] second chair of the pod yeah um yeah so they had to split the game into two halves so they finished

[00:42:43] the first half and released it in early 94 like february of 94 i believe sonic day or whatever

[00:42:50] and then the second half sonic and knuckles released in october of 94 so and show my

[00:42:57] technically sonic four kind of but it's it's three part two because it's the same story

[00:43:05] right it's just the second half of it and with sonic and knuckles is where they did that weird

[00:43:09] lock-on cart thing where yeah near the tower where yeah it has this weird like lock-on cartridge

[00:43:15] thing so when you put it in the genesis you had a little like little flap and you'd flip the flap

[00:43:21] and there'd be another cartridge slot and you could put in say sonic three and do sonic three

[00:43:26] and knuckles so you could have the whole game in one go you could also put sonic two in there

[00:43:32] and so you could play sonic two as knuckles oh yeah i remember the new character for this yeah

[00:43:37] they were gonna do that with sonic one but they were having like some i think it was some

[00:43:41] color palette issues so they instead made it like this weird like level generation for blue sphere

[00:43:48] and which is the bonus game in sonic three and knuckles and funnily enough you can put other

[00:43:52] cartridges into the lock-on for sonic and knuckles and get random blue sphere levels out of it

[00:43:59] like you go to the comic zone or shining force two in there and get like some weird levels yeah

[00:44:04] it's all blue sphere stuff but that was that was a little neat thing they threw at you for that

[00:44:10] yeah but but yeah sonic three and knuckles um it's my favorite game of all time actually um

[00:44:16] when you put them together because when you put them together it feels like a complete experience

[00:44:21] like sonic three feels a little too short by itself you know and then you play sonic

[00:44:26] knuckles and and also it feels a little too short for what it is but when you put them together

[00:44:32] it all makes perfect sense and kind of tells this really uh good narrative about like sonic

[00:44:37] meaning knuckles and then you learn about sort of knuckles story and how he's like you know the

[00:44:43] last of his kind and the echidnas are the ones who are protecting the chaos emeralds and he

[00:44:48] gets tricked by dr robotnik like because robotnik convinces knuckles that sonic's trying to

[00:44:54] steal them because with sonic three opens you know sonic is supersonic and everything and knuckles lays

[00:45:00] the trap for him and takes all of the the chaos emeralds back and then and then near the end

[00:45:05] of the game when you get to i think it's sky sanctuary and knuckles is when you realize

[00:45:10] is when knuckles realizes that robotnik's been fleecing him the whole time and sonic

[00:45:14] is actually his friend and so knuckles then switches sides and then you use his help to beat

[00:45:20] robotnik at the end and and crash the death egg for good so so wait so so sonic adventure

[00:45:29] is like doesn't that don't don't they repeat the same storyline kind of but adventure has more to it

[00:45:37] with like the chow's and the chaos and all that crap that's true yeah it adventures its own beast

[00:45:44] entirely yeah but but i love sonic three knuckles to death it's um to me it's where they found the right

[00:45:53] balance of like the speed and the platforming and a little bit of the exploration stuff

[00:45:59] it finds a really nice balance i love all the zones in three and knuckles i think they're

[00:46:05] all fantastic there's not there's not a there's not a dud blue sphere is the best of the

[00:46:10] special stages by a long shot um the music is also fantastic and there's a weird history with the sonic

[00:46:17] three music that yeah we don't need to go into it so the the short of it is um they brought in

[00:46:26] michael jackson to do the soundtrack for it he was a big sonic fan and through a combination of him

[00:46:31] not liking the genesis sound ship and the first round of child abuse allegations they decided to

[00:46:38] mutually part ways though some of his music does remain in the game and that's one of the reasons

[00:46:46] why sonic three and knuckles don't get ported that much these days but version that's that's why i

[00:46:53] haven't played that one yeah but the version that's on the sonic origins collection there's a

[00:46:59] couple of zones that have different music uh that was composed by howard drossin who was like an

[00:47:06] in-house sega sound team guy um and those were on the pc release of sonic three and knuckles in

[00:47:13] like the mid 90s what the fuck a pc release yeah yeah and then they converted those tunes to like 16 bit

[00:47:21] so that's how they completely got rid of the um michael jackson connection and in fact when you

[00:47:27] do this three and knuckles combo cart all of these sound effects like say like the invincibility

[00:47:33] getting an extra life they're all the sonic and knuckles variants which says to me that um

[00:47:39] the michael jackson team probably worked on those for sonic three but sonic and knuckles was all

[00:47:44] howard drossin so huh yeah that that's the short part yeah yeah there's a lot there um yeah sonic

[00:47:53] sonic three had a very interesting history it wanted to be like they were going to try to make it

[00:47:56] like a 3d game but that didn't really work out so they just went back to 2d and all that stuff

[00:48:01] but to me it ended up being like as i said my favorite game of all time it's my favorite sonic game

[00:48:08] it's the one i love to go back to and play the most um i even have the soundtrack on my phone

[00:48:13] and i'll just listen to it at work if i just need something to listen to you know hydrosity acts

[00:48:19] hydrosity acts one and two slap oh my god so good absolutely after that came sonic triple trouble

[00:48:28] which was it's fine yeah sequel to uh sonic chaos introduce knack the weasel who's on the cover

[00:48:39] so that's cool um no he's fang the sniper get it right did he ever appear anytime again well he's

[00:48:48] also know he was initially knack the weasel but he became fang the sniper he's a turbo what the

[00:48:55] fuck something like that yeah yeah but he's purple he's got the hat he has a gun um i remember the

[00:49:01] first time i saw him was in sonic the fighters that we were arcade fighting game okay oh yeah there

[00:49:06] was a fighting game yeah and then he's also in sonic mania he has a little cameo in there

[00:49:11] which is oh yeah that's right yeah yeah and that in the desert stage cool stuff oh yeah speaking

[00:49:17] of new characters uh then we get to the 32x with knuckles chaotix uh the whole whole chaotix

[00:49:25] mother fucker in line we have vector the crocodile sbo the chameleon charme b and mighty the armadillo

[00:49:31] i uh i haven't played a lot of knuckles they hadn't played too many characters wait was was mighty in

[00:49:36] this one apparently yeah oh shit he is i didn't think he was maybe maybe you unlock him later

[00:49:44] i don't remember him mighty can do wall jumps so uh was it knuckles can climb walls mighty can

[00:49:49] wall jump spoker run along walls and ceilings yeah yeah yeah yeah and charme is basically tails

[00:49:57] yeah yeah knuckles chaotix is a weird game yeah it's uh it's got that weird like rubber band

[00:50:03] move that you do with with yeah yeah that yeah like that was originally i think the game was

[00:50:08] gonna be called sonic crackers um a weird title for a game where it was gonna be like sonic and knuckles

[00:50:15] or sonic and tails had like the rings that were like attached and you would use them in the

[00:50:19] like a rubber band kind of motion there's a prototype of it out there on the internet and i've played

[00:50:24] it it's it's whatever wasn't there a sonic game where you can create your own character

[00:50:30] yes oh yeah it's one of the newer ones i think uh sonic forces yeah okay you want me another

[00:50:35] rubier jakes oh Jesus um so yeah knuckles chaotix yeah i think

[00:50:43] the i think they moved it to the 32x because they're like oh we need to put like a sonic game on here

[00:50:48] yeah we need to sell this we need to sell this piece of shit we need to try to sell this yeah crappy

[00:50:53] thing and knuckles chaotix is one of like two or three games that are worth playing on the 32x

[00:50:59] and people aren't the biggest fans of this game i totally get it i've played i've never beaten it

[00:51:04] it's it has kind of that sonic cd problem where the the levels are too mazy and it's like too confusing

[00:51:10] to navigate um like the rubber band concept is is interesting but i feel the game doesn't really

[00:51:17] do much with that idea they just they're just like oh here's this thing to make it different

[00:51:23] when i would have preferred if they had just done a game where it's like oh you're just your

[00:51:27] knuckles and the game is more based around knuckles abilities you know like that would have

[00:51:31] been cool yeah right or or even if they wanted to make a game based around like sbo and vector and

[00:51:37] they're sort of we're just swapping between them or something yeah talking between like knuckles and

[00:51:42] and sbo and all them yeah wasn't there plans for like a robotnik spoon off

[00:51:49] i think there was but i don't think it ever happened that'd be fucking insane that would

[00:51:53] that would be weird to sell and yeah yeah so yeah knuckles gaax is it's perfectly fine it

[00:51:57] has a great soundtrack like a fantastic soundtrack because the 32x well it still uses all the sonic

[00:52:04] games have good soundtracks well while the 32x still uses like the genesis soundtrack you can get like

[00:52:10] some more kind of like clean samples particularly in the drums so like the drum sounds on knuckles

[00:52:15] chaotics are very like almost like have a cleaner mid 90s kind of like sample quality to them

[00:52:22] like listen to the song i think it's a the first uh the first act the first zones tune i think it's

[00:52:29] called like door into summer or whatever like that song is fucking awesome like it still has that

[00:52:34] genesis quality to it but you can tell there's more processing power in the in the sound department

[00:52:40] it's uh it's a little weird that like like any other sonic soundtrack you can get on like Spotify

[00:52:48] and YouTube music and shit yeah but knuckles chaotics isn't on there i mean which is lame

[00:52:56] yeah i want to hear it i mean i guess i could just fucking look at the right issues going on

[00:53:01] no it's probably just sega being like who wants to hear that i do god damn i didn't ever heard

[00:53:07] i did i did too but yeah knuckles chaotics is a cool game but it's no colibri

[00:53:13] cool the hummingbird schmop dude oh my god that's like the best game on the 32x

[00:53:19] that's a cool game if i if any of you listeners uh want to like uh want to listen to to a good

[00:53:25] fucking episode about the 32x and the shit show that was the 32x friend of the show

[00:53:31] press b to cancel they have a whole episode all about the 32x and it's it's hilarious

[00:53:36] what good talking about like i gotta listen to that dude it's it's so fucking funny the 32x is just

[00:53:42] such a piece of shit it's such a wasted time a waste of money and a wasted time a good idea but a terrible

[00:53:50] concept like if not we're not a good concept good idea and concept but terrible execution is what

[00:53:56] i meant to say well i think started a downfall of sega in a way yeah i i think if say knuckles

[00:54:03] chaotics they took knuckles chaotics and then like made it the the the main sonic game for say the

[00:54:10] Saturn yeah i think it i think it would have become more notable like if you took the 32x

[00:54:16] game that it was and be like oh let's beef it up a little bit for the Saturn hardware audio and

[00:54:21] shit yes yeah and make it sort of like the showcase game for the Saturn while we're waiting on the

[00:54:25] proper sonic game i think it would have worked out better oh yeah in my opinion like take all

[00:54:31] the good 32x games beef them up make them Saturn games there you go you can now you can now sell the

[00:54:38] Saturn when you when you when you release it out of the blue like five months early for no reason

[00:54:44] yeah dumbasses speaking of out of the blue the next one is sonic blast for the game gear with

[00:54:52] like the wonkiest looking 3d render of sonic on the uh on the cover art yeah it's uh it's a sonic

[00:55:00] game all right once again it's fine yeah i think it's oh yeah when it once and did not like it at all

[00:55:08] oh yeah i think it's like origins plus added a bunch of like the sonic game gear games so you

[00:55:13] can play them on there if you really want to oh cool though it does have though it does have

[00:55:19] tails adventure which is a neat that is a good one yeah tails adventure is uh like a little

[00:55:24] metroidvania like it's with tails i don't think that what is that it's on the game gear it's like

[00:55:30] yeah like a little metroidvania game where your tails and you like throw bombs at ducks it's kind of cool

[00:55:36] oh it's a neat game it's worth looking up yeah it's pretty cool i never knew they had a tail

[00:55:41] spin off there's another one tails sky patrol that gaming good i had no idea about i don't

[00:55:47] know what the fuck you're talking about it's like a scrolling shooter thing and but it's bad

[00:55:52] it doesn't control well because i think it was uh one of the sonic mega collections for

[00:55:56] like gamekeeper ps2 had these so that's how i played them oh we've got a we've got a really fun

[00:56:02] one up next uh sonic the hedgehog pocket adventure for the neo geopocket color that was

[00:56:09] actually really good this is a this is a cool fucking game yeah it's actually cool like

[00:56:15] yeah it's a handheld port of a sonic game so it's not going to be as good as the console versions

[00:56:18] but it's good for yeah i think it's sonic 2 is it i think so it's like sonic 2 for the neo geopocket

[00:56:26] color yeah it's heavily based on sonic 2 yeah yeah because when i played it i'm like this this is

[00:56:32] it's it's taking a lot of inspiration from sonic 2 like it has a lot of the same zones

[00:56:37] but the level designs are very different hmm but it yeah it's really neat so neo geopocket

[00:56:43] colors and neat little system it's a good system yeah and this and this just kind of adds to that you

[00:56:50] know i think it's stupidly expensive nowadays but you know it's really there there are other means

[00:56:58] it's cool and weird how like the neo geopocket color even though sega had their own handhelds

[00:57:05] the neo geopocket color had a lot to do with sega at the time because like yeah there was

[00:57:09] there was this the the sonic game um you connect your your your ngpc will say to shorten up ngpc

[00:57:16] to your your dreamcast for some games like marvel versus capcom 2 or uh or no sorry snk versus capcom

[00:57:24] in a few other games and it can get some cool extra shit and actually i think it was marvel

[00:57:30] versus capcom 2 you get extra shit but uh yeah that's another podcast we'll save it for another

[00:57:36] day yeah i don't know much about the neo geopocket color other than i i know it's really cool

[00:57:42] and i did so i did some emulating on it and i played a pocket adventure and i was like

[00:57:47] damn this is good this is like really good i like this because i think it was snk made it

[00:57:52] like sega didn't make it so yeah uh before we get to the next half of the sonic 2d

[00:58:01] game should we take an ad break yeah let's take an ad break okay we're taking a break

[01:07:43] room temp room temp red cream like come on you got the you you freeze it you lose all the flavor

[01:07:49] exactly art marc casserole

[01:07:55] freshly ground art marc only the finest herbs and spices like salt that's it we're white so just salt

[01:08:08] side effects you might get leprosy black pepper is too spicy leprosy helper

[01:08:18] oh now we're talking coming to a store near you

[01:08:23] car this stuff is solid gold

[01:08:53] oh

[01:08:58] it is oh it's flying off the shelves hey we're back you know it's also flying off the shelves

[01:09:04] sonic advance yeah let's fucking go is this the one this one i like with no i think i'm

[01:09:12] thinking of the second one there was one where you control like a robot guy and you can make his

[01:09:18] moves or something or choose which moves he has

[01:09:24] i'm not sure was that sonic adventure

[01:09:29] no yeah because sonic advance is just a 2d sonic am on the gameboy advance like there's not a lot

[01:09:37] of frills to it oh sir i'm gonna look it up sonic advance robot do do what is his name

[01:09:46] where is this guy i know this is a thing i'm not making this up emerald emerald is his name

[01:09:55] who the fuck is emerald oh sonic battle that's what i'm thinking of oh oh the fighting game

[01:10:01] that weird fighting game that they made that's like part of the advanced lore

[01:10:07] like the the lore of the sonic advance game that oh fuck but it's it's a spin off those we're

[01:10:11] not talking about that right now there's a sonic advanced lore yeah i stop the rack there is not

[01:10:22] don't yeah anyways anyway so sonic advance sonic advance funnily enough even though it's called

[01:10:30] sonic advance it also got a version on the famous nokea engage called sonic n

[01:10:39] and it's and it's the exact same game but you play it in portrait mode

[01:10:48] basically so yeah so so enough so enough of the engage all right sonic advance on the gameboy

[01:10:53] advance this game is awesome it's it's fantastic um it does a really good job of being a spiritual

[01:10:59] successor to the genesis games it does yeah but bringing in that modern um kind of sonic

[01:11:06] identity to it you know you have like the the redesigns that they did for adventure in there

[01:11:11] and and trying to add more of that sort of modern feeling of like the level design and the speed

[01:11:17] and everything um but it advance one to me is very similar to sonic one and it feels like its

[01:11:23] emphasis is more on just like being a really solid platformer and i think it does a really

[01:11:28] really good job with that um that like uh what was it dimps were brought in to do this one

[01:11:33] the infamous dimps um but they did a good job i mean this was before their reputation was ruined

[01:11:38] but they did a fantastic job with this one so give them credit for that they they knocked out this one

[01:11:43] really well yeah fuck i guess i haven't played these ones they look awesome but like i'm gonna

[01:11:51] download them right now oh yeah they're great i have all three of them on the official carts for all

[01:11:56] three i'm gonna i'm gonna emulate them don't tell my parents there was an art type don't tell daddy

[01:12:04] don't tell daddy nintendo of course there was yeah of course okay i don't have it yet i've been meaning

[01:12:09] to okay okay i'm downloading this right now uh sonic advance two that that's the best one

[01:12:16] that's the best one that's the one i had as a kid um when i got my gba that was the uh the

[01:12:22] sonic game i was given probably because it was the one they could find and uh yeah sonic advance two

[01:12:29] oh i fucking love sonic advance two it's one of my favorite sonic games in the entire series this one

[01:12:35] okay it it's it's focus is on speed and this game can get crazy fast really seriously and this is

[01:12:43] pre-boost era like this is like yeah like the boost was introduced i think in sonic unleashed

[01:12:48] so like for this one just there's like a ring in the corner like where your ring counter is

[01:12:54] and it spins and if you get it spinning fast enough you can just like like a century break

[01:12:59] the sound barrier like oh and you're just like fucking zoom and yeah it is so fucking fun it is

[01:13:06] such a fun time all the bosses are like running levels like they're all just like okay like they're

[01:13:12] all movement based which some people don't like i think i'll fight robotnik every level no you

[01:13:17] fight robotnik but like the first one is oh he's in a car with like a hammer and you have to dodge

[01:13:21] the hammer and hit him while you're in motion there's one in the snow level where um he he's like

[01:13:28] flying in the air and he has these like platforms that are constantly shifting if you could land

[01:13:33] on them or not you have to like jump on and hit them and there's like missiles dropping on you

[01:13:37] the whole time that one kind of sucks but you know it's fine they're all kind of the same thing

[01:13:42] they're all like in motion so you have that kind of momentum in there um and yeah fantastic love the

[01:13:47] game it has a good soundtrack as well uh there's like a a zone that's all like music based and so

[01:13:53] the music in that one i've always really liked I threw that my head along

[01:14:03] but yeah a fantastic game fantastic game for some reason this the advanced trilogy i believe

[01:14:09] in North America was published by thq not sega which is weird that is weird strange it is very

[01:14:15] weird but i really like sega trying to pour out their mascot I think so yeah the advanced games

[01:14:21] do have some issues with especially with like bottomless pits um and like occasional

[01:14:28] like level design that intentionally throws you in the wrong direction

[01:14:32] and getting the chaos arm rolls in these games fucking suck like

[01:14:38] yes like in it like advanced two is the worst one so basically every level has

[01:14:44] these like star rings or whatever and you have to get seven of them wow and if you don't get all seven

[01:14:52] then you don't get then you don't get a chance and it doesn't save when you get them so you

[01:14:56] have to get them all in one go so you have to follow a very specific path to get them

[01:15:03] it's awful all three advanced games I've never bothered getting the chaos arm rolls because

[01:15:07] they're just they're such a pain in the ass I don't care don't care so yeah advanced two is

[01:15:14] phenomenal that like if you're gonna play one of the advanced games make it advance two

[01:15:19] advance one is really good but two's better than uh then we get to three and actually this one

[01:15:25] I think I do remember because uh this one you to play as cream actually because I think this was

[01:15:29] the first game that they they had cream cream debuted in advance two oh okay maybe maybe it

[01:15:36] was advanced two that I play I know I'm yeah it's come back to me now that I play and she

[01:15:41] cream have a special ability well she is her she's a rabbit so she can fly not as good as

[01:15:47] Tails but she also has a chow that you can essentially press the attack button because

[01:15:52] every character has like an attack that I never used except for her because she'll summon a chow to

[01:15:57] just auto uh just eviscerate everything on screen so she makes boss battles nothing was this chow

[01:16:05] introduced before adventure no it's just well it's just her chow that she has like her like

[01:16:11] little friend the chow's named cheese oh yes it's cream and cheese yeah delicious

[01:16:19] yeah exactly so I love cream the rabbit she's actually one of my favorite uh sonic characters

[01:16:24] she's aim she's Amy done right like she's actually like an adorable cute character didn't they have

[01:16:31] I'm pretty sure they had cream in uh one of the sonic adventure games I'm fairly certain

[01:16:36] because like at one point you see her flying around or something she's in sonic heroes

[01:16:41] oh yeah for sure yeah she's yeah she's she's team she's in sonic x yeah um grew up I grew up on

[01:16:52] sonic sonic x gotta go fast oh my god tune in on the fox box yeah dude yeah yeah what's inside

[01:17:02] the fox box no no we're not getting the fucking we gotta stop now sonic rush

[01:17:10] oh so well I will say sonic fighting food on's oh yeah good shit I will say sonic advance three

[01:17:16] is like the one I don't care for because this one has more of an emphasis on exploration and mazy

[01:17:23] level design and if you've noticed I don't care for overly mazy level design in sonic games like

[01:17:30] like I don't mind multiple paths but when I have to like stop and like figure out what the hell I'm

[01:17:36] doing yeah that's that's the worst part especially for sonic exactly you slow down that's when it gets

[01:17:42] yeah in advance three has a lot of that and it's and and just like the enemy placement is just

[01:17:48] really annoying and it has like hub worlds which is like why the fuck do you need a hub world

[01:17:52] for a sonic game like a 2d one nonetheless um like it's only real interesting thing is that you can

[01:18:01] like you'll you can be like sonic tails knuckles amy cream or whatever but you can blend them

[01:18:06] so you can be like oh for this level i'm gonna be tails and knuckles and and they'll have like a

[01:18:10] special ability that you can use for traversal or whatever that's cool cool yeah it's neat but

[01:18:17] it's not really enough to to help it in my opinion so this is the one I didn't care for and yeah a lot

[01:18:24] of people do like advance three but for me that this ain't it but yeah sonic rush sonic rush is awesome

[01:18:32] I could safely say that yeah this the this for sure i've not played uh looks like there's

[01:18:40] two of them sonic rush and sonic rush adventure I've never played either one

[01:18:45] there's technically three because the ds version of sonic colors is basically the third rush game

[01:18:53] so sonic rush is a continuation of the sonic advance games but they take advantage of the

[01:19:00] ds's like two screens so the game is basically two screens so you can like say start on the bottom

[01:19:07] with sonic and then you can go up this really high ramp and it's so high

[01:19:11] you shoot you all the way at the top screen and then you play up there and then you can also

[01:19:14] like drop through there which is really cool it's all like two it's all like 2d based the bosses are

[01:19:21] 3d on like one screen takes advantage of like the ds is kind of more like 3d kind of hardware and

[01:19:27] the boss is kind of range and quality throughout the the series but these also introduce a new

[01:19:33] character called blaze the cat uh when I should I like blaze the cat she's cool oh I oh I

[01:19:40] guess yeah she came in this before sonico 70 exit the sonic she's in sonico six yeah but rush came

[01:19:46] out no five yeah and yeah the first rush game is really cool um there's like this weird like

[01:19:50] trick system to like you know so because this is like also having like the boost formula kind of

[01:19:56] more in there like there's a button just boost and there's like a bar that you can build up

[01:20:00] and you do like the trick system to build it up and trick systems fine it's whatever um I would

[01:20:06] just prefer killing enemies to build up the boost yeah but but the first rush is really solid it feels

[01:20:12] closer to like advanced one and two and that kind of quality so sonic rush is an easy recommend rush

[01:20:18] adventure like that part of the game is good the the side scrolling stuff but then there's like

[01:20:25] other stuff because they're like oh it's an adventure we need to do other things like

[01:20:29] like uh like like collecting items and like participating in like weird shit where you're

[01:20:34] like in a submarine shooting stuff oh and like you're and you're in like a boat sailing around

[01:20:40] it's like phantom hourglass but worse somehow and like like the bad parts are not good at all

[01:20:46] but like the parts where you're as sonic or blaze through the levels is really cool but

[01:20:51] a rush adventure is just trying too hard to be more than rush one when it didn't really need to

[01:20:58] be you know yeah because then say you go to sonic colors on ds which is essentially the third rush game

[01:21:06] it strips all that stuff away and it's basically sonic colors like it's it's that if you've played

[01:21:13] sonic colors it's that but they put it on the ds and they give you that sort of rush vibe to it

[01:21:19] you know like they get rid of the trick system you can't play as blaze anymore um so you're

[01:21:24] just sonic the whole time but they introduced the wisps in there and so you have the wisp abilities

[01:21:29] throughout the game which are really cool there's a couple unique to this one as well um and there's

[01:21:34] like missions based around the wisp power-ups and everything um and sonic colors on ds is fantastic

[01:21:40] is that 2d yeah it's 2d it's just like the rush it's just like the other rush games where

[01:21:46] it's like has like the 2d stuff but the bosses are 3d um and yeah again another fantastic

[01:21:53] game i think it's right up there with the uh the original sonic colors in terms of quality

[01:21:57] because i do really like sonic colors as well i'm actually wearing a sonic color shirt as we speak

[01:22:03] so there you go

[01:22:06] hmm okay now we get to uh some real troubling shit uh sonic the hedgehog four episode one and

[01:22:17] episode two i have played i played episode one yeah yeah i i bought and played both of them

[01:22:26] i mean they're pretty cheap back in the day too and it was promising like oh new 2d sonic

[01:22:30] and this day and age on the 360 and ps3 uh but it just just wasn't that good um no

[01:22:39] remember when i said this was before demps ruined their reputation was this where demps killed

[01:22:45] we're at ruining the reputation now everyone like oh god sonic four that i oh god this game pisses

[01:22:52] me off um i i remember as a kid seeing it being advertised right like sonic four what like they're

[01:23:00] doing sonic four you know like it was a big deal to me and it was like all in 3d and everything

[01:23:07] and or doing the 2.5 d thing and yeah yeah and it was like oh this was on the way i have a

[01:23:12] wee i could play this on the weave and this was around the time sonic colors and sonic colors was

[01:23:17] really good so i was kind of hyped for sonic at that time so i was like oh let me get this on the

[01:23:23] we and play it and oh god i had never i don't think i've regretted buying a game

[01:23:31] like immediately the way i regretted buying sonic four because oh six

[01:23:36] what was that it's it's more regrettable than 06 well i didn't buy 06 at the time okay

[01:23:44] that came later um but with sonic four all the like the review like the earlier review stuff

[01:23:49] where like all this game just doesn't feel great but it's okay i guess you know people i think

[01:23:55] we're trying to be nice to it but it just but they're like ah the physics aren't really that

[01:24:00] great you know like it's weird to see reviews at the time were really high on it like yeah

[01:24:06] end gamer gave it a 10 out of 10 are you fucking kidding me what you don't know the end gamer

[01:24:11] is the factor going in there yeah like your like Euro gamer gave it a nine it has like an 81 on

[01:24:17] metacritic the fuck because i remember playing it and i was like this feels terrible and it's

[01:24:23] feels absolutely awful it's also like bland because with oh yeah it's going from like boring going from

[01:24:32] like sonic one to sonic two sonic two brought a lot because you could you could play as uh

[01:24:38] sonic or tail you could play two player play with tails introduce new bonus basically like

[01:24:43] each iteration of sonic introduced something different to the formula or like changed it up

[01:24:48] or did something but in sonic 4 it's just let me like you can do the homing attack i guess but like

[01:24:56] that's really it there's no it's a single player game you only ever get to play as sonic and the

[01:25:02] stages are just like they're just the same stages from previous sonic games and it just a lot of

[01:25:07] ray treads yeah exactly yeah you just have like four zones because they're gonna do the

[01:25:12] episodic thing with this like it was originally going to be a trilogy and as a kid i was like

[01:25:18] why why why nobody really knows why and um and i think i i just had this thought because this came

[01:25:25] out in 2010 and it was called sonic 4 and the year prior to this we had another game come out that

[01:25:33] was like a continuation of an old series mega man nine and mega man nine was a big hit

[01:25:39] i remember buying that and loving the shit out of it yeah so in my head i just had this thought

[01:25:44] i'm like is it called was it called sonic 4 because capcom had a hit with mega man nine so they're

[01:25:51] like oh we could just do a sonic 4 2d thing and people will eat it up yeah it's cashing on on nostalgia

[01:25:58] basically i think so and but the problem was in in capturing the nostalgia they forgot to make a

[01:26:05] good game yeah and the result is a game that's just not any good and it's still on my way um i

[01:26:13] haven't touched it in a long time um episode one and episode two are both available on the series x

[01:26:20] through backwards compatibility yeah and i'm waiting for them to be like maybe two bucks a pop to buy

[01:26:26] them and try them did they ever work on episode three nope never because well episode one even though

[01:26:34] it got surprisingly good reviews and sold well i think we all knew it wasn't good i think we

[01:26:40] all knew and then episode because episode two came out a couple months it was like what i was like

[01:26:45] two years later yeah two years later wow so long time and from and i never played it because i was so

[01:26:54] um i i it was just so like fuck this like i'm not going to do episode two and it didn't even

[01:27:00] come out on the we which made no sense to me came out in the uya but didn't come out oh my

[01:27:06] gosh yeah figure that one out and from what i hear from what i hear episode two is better like they

[01:27:13] add tails they fix some of the um physics issues and it's a bit more playable from what i've heard

[01:27:22] they got pretty mixed reviews though actually yeah looks i think by that looks i think by that

[01:27:27] point people were like yeah we kind of screwed up on the first one so they were kind of like

[01:27:34] bringing it back around and being like yeah this isn't that great but eventually i will play

[01:27:38] both of these back to back i'll probably get all the achievements if they're not crazy difficult

[01:27:44] and um and and regret it but i have to do it because it's a part of my sonic lineage i haven't

[01:27:51] filled yet so i'll do it one of these days this yeah but terrible games absolutely terrible

[01:27:58] don't ever play them the um if i remember correctly in and sonic no sorry uh sonic for episode two

[01:28:08] you could this one did bring tails back but yes it was almost like um i can't think of a game that

[01:28:15] does the kind of the same thing but like you basically would tag between like like donkey

[01:28:19] kong country almost you tag between sonic and tails um if you're playing single player though

[01:28:25] because you could play co-op but um pretty much like anytime it would be like so you'd be sonic

[01:28:32] zooming through a level doing what sonic does and then you have to come to a dead fucking stop

[01:28:37] and either switch to tails and have him like fly you over something or take you somewhere

[01:28:44] with this slow fucking flying or uh you know your your second player would just do the

[01:28:50] same fucking thing pick you up fly you somewhere and that just that just kind of sucks man like

[01:28:55] carry the momentum of like you know sonic flying and then there's sonic uh just blazing through a

[01:29:01] level and then tails comes in maybe grabs you and just fucking throws you or something uh yeah just

[01:29:07] it just sucks when they make you when developers make you come to a full fucking stop and you

[01:29:14] should never stop in a in a sonic game exactly you're supposed to go fast god damn it gotta

[01:29:20] go fast it's all about pacing should the dog like you can have slower moments in sonic games and make

[01:29:26] it work but it has to feel like it's earned you know what i mean yeah like at least it has to work

[01:29:34] like at the end of a level or like at the beginning of a boss fight or when you get to like a bonus

[01:29:40] stage but not like right in the middle of a level you know exactly uh and now now we're getting to

[01:29:50] some weird territory i've never played these before there's sonic boom shattered crystal

[01:29:56] and sonic boom fire and ice i've never oh the 3ds ones i've never played these either yeah i i know

[01:30:03] about the we you rise of lyric that that that piece of trash they've also had a sonic boom tv or

[01:30:10] i guess no the tv show came first and then these games are based off the show yes and all i know

[01:30:16] is the rise of lyric was done by a team called big red button i don't think they exist anymore i hated

[01:30:24] that sonic tv show yeah it's i had never watched it so dumb they uh they made um they made the

[01:30:32] characters look more like they get more like human-like proportions as opposed to their normal

[01:30:37] animal where's a damn bandana yeah dude it's knuckles looks fucking jacked like he's like

[01:30:45] terry krus but if he was she was knuckles dude it's so weird hell yeah i mean that makes sense right

[01:30:54] sure yeah i don't know i don't know um yeah i've never i've never seen it um the 3ds games i've

[01:31:01] heard they're better than the we you ones but not by a huge amount um they were done by sanzuru

[01:31:07] games um which if you don't know they're known for let's see what they're they're known for

[01:31:14] the fourth sly cooper game thieves in time uh they did that really good sly cooper collection for ps3

[01:31:22] they let's see they did the god of war collection for the vita o vr sports challenge for i just i don't

[01:31:28] know i'm just i'm just i'm just yeah well now they make well now they make vr games like as grads

[01:31:32] wrath one and two so but they made but they made but they're they're they're true gem is mystery

[01:31:39] case files the malgrade incident for the week i don't know what that is is that good or it's just

[01:31:45] it's just like some like bullshit like flash puzzle type thing okay yeah yeah so like sony saw

[01:31:52] that they did that and they're like yeah these guys can handle sly cooper

[01:31:58] but i mean hey if you if you ever find that uh if you don't have that ps3 collection of sly

[01:32:03] one through three and you want to play them it's pretty good it's a good it's a good version of them

[01:32:08] right on yeah sanzuru games wow uh yeah they're there their logo is like a monkey

[01:32:19] next is oh fuck yeah sonic mania i put a lot of time into this fucking game yeah sonic mania

[01:32:28] that's the latest one right uh no sony super stars came out oh yes that came out recently yeah

[01:32:37] sonic mania i remember when this i remember when this was announced yeah it was fucking

[01:32:42] like when they announced this i'm fucking i i mean i i should have jumped up out of my chair and

[01:32:48] went like yeah but i sat there and was just like normal straight faced air and i was like

[01:32:52] i did like a little head bob eyes open i was like fuck yeah okay well oh inside were you freaking out

[01:32:59] the inside i was like like fuck yeah i was freaking out well because when i saw sonic mania to me it's

[01:33:06] like that's what sonic four should have been yes yes yes yeah and and this and because sonic four

[01:33:12] was already taken they couldn't call it sonic four so they had to call it sonic mania

[01:33:17] and yeah sonic mania is i guess the best way to describe it is it's a it's a celebration of sonic

[01:33:24] yeah because yeah because essentially um this must have been when sega learned about all the

[01:33:30] weird sonic fan game community stuff that's been going on forever yeah like who are the they're

[01:33:36] like who are these weird fuckers right and then they get in touch with some of them like

[01:33:39] tax man and stealth and they're like they're like oh you guys make like legitimate games and like

[01:33:44] they had tax man i think it was port one two and cd to mobile phones like remake them in this

[01:33:51] like retro engine and everything um and those versions are fucking fantastic they're on widescreen

[01:33:56] 60 frames like they even fix little issues the old games had and his version of sonic

[01:34:02] two adds hidden palace zone back in which is really cool um and then there's such good

[01:34:07] ports and remakes of those that sega essentially handed them the keys to make a new sonic in

[01:34:15] new and quotes um and it was done at the same time as sonic forces which was the the one where

[01:34:20] you create your own uh sonic character which is a whole another thing um and they both were

[01:34:27] being advertised around the same time and sonic forces was originally teased as like a generation

[01:34:32] sequel kind of thing so it was like oh shit sonic's kind of entering a new like a good

[01:34:39] phase you know it seems like things that things are going really well um and forces is kind of

[01:34:44] but i can get more in detail on the 3d episode yeah but uh but sonic mania it's a very good game

[01:34:50] it's fantastic it's one of the best games in the series by a long shot i've played it a bunch

[01:34:55] love it but it's the only issue i have with it or some of the issues i have with it are

[01:35:02] i think it's a little too memberberry you know it's a little too like oh there's this stuff

[01:35:07] from the other games blah blah blah and i hate when people use this game as like like oh this is

[01:35:16] why sonic is never hasn't been good in forever or whatever you know what i mean right like like

[01:35:21] people use this game as a reason to shit on all the older sonic games that they've never played

[01:35:26] they just assume they're bad because they saw some dude on youtube say it was bad you know

[01:35:30] which which i think is it's unfair to criticize mania for that but it's just it's just

[01:35:36] something new about mania that just irks me up just a little bit just just a little bit but

[01:35:43] outside of that it's a fantastic game i bought at day one i've played it a bunch it's fantastic

[01:35:48] i've considered rebuying it on my xbox because i don't have it on there i would it's like a lot

[01:35:54] yeah i probably i probably will it's great and it just looks so good like it's it's like if the

[01:36:00] if the genesis or i guess i guess if the f**k it 32x was in very high definition because it's

[01:36:09] it just looks so f***** good man looks so if anything it's the Saturn it's like it's like if

[01:36:14] the Saturn got a proper sonic game because i think that's what they were going for was somewhere

[01:36:19] between Sega Genesis and Sega Saturn graphic style like it's closer to like a knuckles chaotic

[01:36:24] x because it has that like kind of look to it and they've they've added quite a bit to the game

[01:36:32] like uh they've added more characters to it as time went on like they added um what are the other

[01:36:38] motherf**kers i already forget not they didn't i don't well they well they brought back uh mighty

[01:36:44] armadillo yeah and and ray the flying squirrel from the sega sonic arcade game with the trackball

[01:36:53] they really died huh yeah they added yeah they added um those two characters in the sonic mania plus

[01:37:02] which is like you have like the plus mode where you can kind of like swap between all the different

[01:37:07] characters and then there's like you can play a continuation of the game with the those two

[01:37:12] characters and and they um they bring back some other old zones because this game is known for

[01:37:17] bringing back a bunch of old zones uh like your your your green hills your chemical plants all that

[01:37:23] good stuff but there is some there are some fresh zones in there like press garden and uh studio

[01:37:28] opolis well there's and that desert level is based off of the desert level from sonic 2 that

[01:37:34] never got finished though no yeah it's it's got a shit ton like just a f**king sh** ton of

[01:37:42] replayability uh sonic mania i mean because yeah you can play through the game as sonic tails knuckles

[01:37:50] mighty ray you can play as a combination of sonic and tails or sonic at knuckles or uh

[01:37:57] f**k yeah it's just such a f**king and the the uh the tracks for each level they've taken

[01:38:03] like the original tracks and then really revamped them oh my gosh man this game is just yeah it's

[01:38:09] it's so f**king good i remember it's pretty neat it's pretty neat i think i think it's pretty good i mean i uh

[01:38:17] i think i was still working in the office when this game came out and i was oh man i probably

[01:38:24] shouldn't say well no i'll look i'll cut it out i would want to have a month at the office i was

[01:38:28] just like neglecting my work to play this game because i was like i gotta go fast i can't pause

[01:38:33] during the middle because i gotta go fast but yeah i get it man i get it it was that game as well when

[01:38:40] i got it when i was at work i'm like oh i can think about this going back and playing it

[01:38:43] because i was just so i wanted to play this game but i was so burnt out on sonic at the time i didn't

[01:38:48] uh i was scared to get it no i'm not gonna play it now i didn't play it yet but okay you

[01:38:56] guys talking about it i would i do want to check it out now basically well i i will say despite my

[01:39:02] personal issues with sonic mania if i was recommending somebody get into the series these days i would say

[01:39:08] play sonic mania like that's your entry point okay that's the best entry point because it is

[01:39:13] probably as close as you can get to like getting all of the great things about sonic in one game

[01:39:20] it's the closest thing you can get and it was all fans who made it like sonic team didn't do it it

[01:39:24] was the fans who understood what made sonic great and were like this is how you do it

[01:39:29] you know like the physics are perfect like the game looks great it has a fantastic soundtrack

[01:39:35] despite it recycling a lot of old stuff it does it in a way that people really enjoy

[01:39:41] and and yeah it's it's still a fun experience fuck i want to play sonic mania now yeah dude

[01:39:46] and apparently it's uh apparently it's coming to the netflix games in uh 2024 so what the

[01:39:53] hell is netflix games so if you if you have netflix on your phone and you know you're signed in

[01:39:58] and you have a subscription um you can download uh yeah you can download games published by netflix

[01:40:07] on like mobile phones so like there's into the breach uh little inferno there's another good one i can't

[01:40:14] think of off the top of my head shovel knight dig no shovel night pocket dungeon which

[01:40:20] fucking shovel night pocket dungeon is really good if you love puzzle games i would recommend that

[01:40:25] but why would i play those on my phone because i mean it's i mean sure you could play them on your

[01:40:31] xbox but but it's on your phone why would you play fucking sonic endless runner whatever

[01:40:36] would you could play sonic advantage i think there is a sonic uh netflix game there too

[01:40:43] well well it's one thing if it's an exclusive game for it but if it's a game that's available

[01:40:48] on something else i'd rather play it on but you have to buy it you have to buy it on like

[01:40:52] your xbox it's free on your phone if you pay for netflix sonic mania is so good i will pay money for it

[01:41:03] again i'll pay for it again you know what else you can pay for sonic super star seven played

[01:41:09] this hey well well super pod listeners i reviewed this game with uh uh felt with uh other uh

[01:41:19] guests on the show uh i think you've had if you had dra from fine time on here yet

[01:41:23] yeah good friend of the show yep he's been on a couple high score heroes yeah yes yes i i've

[01:41:28] done a review of sonic superstars with dra from fine time on his pod so if you want a more detailed

[01:41:34] take on it for me and him you could go to that me and dra are both big sonic guys so we

[01:41:40] kind of go back and forth a bit um but yeah sonic superstars was good i liked it i thought it

[01:41:46] was all it's not as good as mania uh it does have some issues particularly with the bosses being kind

[01:41:52] of bad but but it's more of a kind of safe 2d sonic game it has like a almost like a new

[01:42:00] super mario brothers quality to it but i think it doesn't but i think it does a better job

[01:42:05] with that idea than um new super mario brothers does in my opinion so i liked sonic superstars

[01:42:14] for what it was that's cool was this the one that came out the same time as mario's mario wonder

[01:42:20] yep yep yeah three days from each other yeah i think you got a smart idea in it oh yeah not for me

[01:42:27] but probably for a lot of other people oh there's a new character in this game trip yeah trip she's

[01:42:33] like a fuck i forget what i forget how you describe her which animal is it no that's a great

[01:42:40] trip the sun gazer is her name the sun gay it's it's a robot she has like it's a i think so because

[01:42:49] she has like armor yeah she has like armor whatever she can like double jump um she can also like stick

[01:42:55] to walls as in like a like a spin dash and have spikes around her and like go up you know she

[01:43:02] she's an interesting character because when you play the game as sonic and then you beat it

[01:43:07] then you unlock her mode which essentially playing through the whole game with her but the levels are

[01:43:13] slightly tweaked for her play style so it so the game is also a lot harder but it takes advantage

[01:43:20] of her double jump and sticking to walls and all that which is a it's a cool it's a cool way of

[01:43:26] yeah getting some replay value right yeah but i didn't finish it with her because the final boss

[01:43:32] fucking sucks it was so bad and i just i just couldn't do it but if you beat it with trip

[01:43:39] then you unlock the final bit which is her and sonic teaming up on like the final final boss

[01:43:45] so you could like google that if you want but it's a fun game it's definitely worth playing

[01:43:50] like if you don't want to pay 64 it like i did um you know i'd like 20 bucks it's worth of play

[01:43:57] yeah i've got to give that a try one of these days yeah in the uh the origins collection i've

[01:44:02] got to give that a try yeah i got i gotta see if the origins collections any good

[01:44:08] uh and with that yeah that's that's it for the the 2d games until they come up with something new

[01:44:18] yeah sonic i have a feeling i have a feeling they will do a superstars 2 because when i was playing

[01:44:25] superstars it felt like this is them kind of test marketing the idea of like oh could this be the

[01:44:32] new 2d series like would you guys be okay with this and i played through it i was like yeah sure as long

[01:44:38] as you fix this this this and that then yeah i think a superstars 2 could be really good it's kind

[01:44:44] of the same thing i had with frontiers where i think frontiers has a really good idea yeah it

[01:44:49] definitely needs some refinements yeah and for a frontier tweaks yeah yes and if they do those

[01:44:55] for frontiers 2 it improve upon it you have a like a banger on your hands but we can talk about

[01:45:01] frontiers next time dang yeah there's also a lot of uh 3d games full yeah well a lot of bad ones too

[01:45:10] not as many not as many as you think really that'll be a fun one in my opinion that'll be a fun

[01:45:16] one when i've got a lot of say about the uh for sure sonic adventure heroes i've got a lot of say

[01:45:22] about a lot of those but uh i'll see that for next time uh rafael brist for for listeners one more
