[00:00:09] Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to another episode of the Pre-Order Bonus Podcast. I'm one of your hosts Cameron Warren and I'm joined by Jacob Price and we just finished watching the Game Awards. It's December 12th. Yeah, Jake, we did it. We watched another Game Awards and what a beefy show, man. That was over three hours.
[00:00:34] There we go. Gotta be the longest show they've ever done for sure. Well, before we get into our reactions to all the stuff that was announced and all the winners, Jake, what's your overall thoughts off the top and maybe just for fun, give it a score out of 10.
[00:00:54] Ooh, we rarely do something like this, give things scores. But let's just say I honestly think that it was fun. It was a lot of fun. I think we saw a lot of really cool reveals. I think there was actually a relatively fair, in my opinion, distribution of the awards to different games.
[00:01:18] Astrobrow obviously winning a lot of awards, but I feel like outside of that, you had several that won two or three awards. So overall, I'm quite pleased. I think it was pretty fun. If I were to give it a score out of 10, I don't know. I think this is one of the better game awards that we've seen. I'd give it like an eight, probably. It was pretty dang enjoyable. There were definitely moments in there.
[00:01:44] Cameron and I joked about this with the group that we watched it with, but there are definitely moments in there where it's like, this feels like the commercial section that pays for Harrison Ford to fly out and be on stage for three minutes.
[00:02:00] Yeah.
[00:02:01] And those sections, perfect to check your phone. I felt like there was a lot of those sections tonight because the game awards is still just a giant money machine as much as it is a hype machine.
[00:02:13] So I don't know. I think eight out of 10, I'd give it.
[00:02:18] Yeah. I mean, I think, I think everybody understands at this point, like those sections have to exist or else the show doesn't exist. Like they pay for the show. Right. So, um, but yeah, no, I think I would, I think I would agree. I think great reveals, um, overall, like really good show, some really hype moments.
[00:02:35] I think it's an eight out of 10 and I think probably for some people, this is, this was probably a nine out of 10 or even a 10 out of 10.
[00:02:44] I just think some of like the hypest reveals, maybe for me personally, it was like, weren't the hypest thing ever.
[00:02:49] Uh, like on a musha and, uh, like an Okami sequel and like some of that stuff. And I also, I I'm deducting points because I think most of the biggest announcements and the biggest stuff that he had were for games that are never coming.
[00:03:11] Um, although I will say, I think this show compared to others, there have, there were a lot less that were for 2026 or beyond, which is good.
[00:03:22] Um, just a few that didn't have, I mean, there were a few, I mean, like the Okami 2 sequel hasn't even entered.
[00:03:31] It felt like the, yeah, it felt like the biggest announcements were for stuff that's not coming, not going to be.
[00:03:38] around for like at least three more years, probably, you know, three to four more years.
[00:03:44] Like the Witcher 4, we're not going to see until it's going to be a while.
[00:03:50] 2027 at the earliest intergalactic.
[00:03:53] Um, we're not going to see.
[00:03:55] And the naughty dog, which we'll talk about in a second.
[00:03:58] Um, the new naughty dog game, like who knows when that comes out?
[00:04:01] Like who knows?
[00:04:02] Like that could be, um, but anyways, well, let's get into it, Jake.
[00:04:07] Uh, yeah, I think eight out of 10 for me.
[00:04:11] Um, but yeah, let's get it.
[00:04:12] Let's get into it.
[00:04:13] I'm going to pull up.
[00:04:15] Let's talk about first the winners.
[00:04:18] We'll go, I'll go from the bottom.
[00:04:19] I'm not, I won't read all of these, but some of the highlights I think was, um, debut indie game, Bellatro, best independent game, Bellatro.
[00:04:28] That kind of, Bellatro kind of swept the indie scene.
[00:04:32] And then I think a couple other standouts for me was Helldivers kind of got its due at one best multiplayer.
[00:04:37] Um, and then it won one other one too.
[00:04:40] Yeah.
[00:04:40] Best ongoing game.
[00:04:41] Best ongoing game.
[00:04:42] Best multiplayer.
[00:04:43] Um, I thought that was really cool.
[00:04:46] And those were definitely deserved.
[00:04:47] Um, in those categories, I think.
[00:04:50] Um, yeah.
[00:04:51] Yeah.
[00:04:51] And then Astro Bot with the sweep of game of the year and best game direction, which I mean, it's hard to argue with that.
[00:04:58] It is.
[00:04:59] It is really hard to argue with that.
[00:05:01] Um, this year I wasn't super excited to see just like a repeat of the same games for both of those categories.
[00:05:06] Um, so it's not surprising that we kind of see the same game take both of those, but I am happy to see Astro Bot, um, be the one to do that.
[00:05:17] But interestingly enough, there's a lot of hubbub about Elden Ring Shadow of the Erd Tree and Silent Hill 2 remake getting a bunch of nominations.
[00:05:24] But as far as I can remember, neither of those walked away with an award.
[00:05:29] Yeah.
[00:05:30] Yeah.
[00:05:31] And shout out to Bellatro for winning best independent game.
[00:05:35] And then I think the creator like couldn't be there for whatever reason, but he was like, I want to give my award to Arco.
[00:05:41] That was huge.
[00:05:42] Holy cow.
[00:05:43] Which is a massive shout out because I think Arco has fallen massively under the radar and like the wider game scene.
[00:05:50] So it was cool to see that shout out.
[00:05:52] Yeah.
[00:05:52] Uh, cause that's definitely one of the best ending games of the year.
[00:05:55] Um, yeah.
[00:05:58] Yeah.
[00:05:59] Uh, yeah.
[00:05:59] I think winners.
[00:06:01] I mean, once again, you kind of had some of the biggest sections just being read off of a, a prompter board like super quickly, which never feels great, but I get it.
[00:06:11] I mean, the show is already pushing three hours and it's, it's a giant trailer show.
[00:06:15] And so we can't, you can't really complain about that.
[00:06:19] If it does feel icky, but it's like, I don't know what else you do.
[00:06:23] I'm, I'm, I certainly didn't, wouldn't know how to put together a show and like know where to put that stuff.
[00:06:27] And then also make it something that you want, like more people to watch, right.
[00:06:33] And be popular.
[00:06:34] It's so anyway.
[00:06:35] Yeah.
[00:06:35] I don't have a good solution for that either, but I also agree that it doesn't feel great to have some of these awards just be read off a teleprompter.
[00:06:44] It doesn't, it doesn't feel good at all.
[00:06:46] Um, however, a few, a few, I think positive changes is, uh, um, people, when they were allowed to give their speeches were kind of given plenty of time.
[00:06:57] It seems to actually give a speech.
[00:06:59] Um, then, uh, Sven's, uh, winky at the very end there, right.
[00:07:04] Cameron said this, uh, with the group that we watch the shows with, but he finally gave the speech that he wanted to give last year.
[00:07:10] Um, and I think he took the appropriate kind of shots at the game award saying, Hey, just one game of the year.
[00:07:15] And then you'll get your allotted time next year to give the speech that you want to give.
[00:07:20] Um, I think he said something that he had leftover time credits, right.
[00:07:24] From, from last year's show.
[00:07:26] Yeah.
[00:07:27] So I do think that like overall it was better than last year.
[00:07:31] I said this in our discord.
[00:07:32] I kind of feel like when I saw the list of nominations for all these categories, I was a little underwhelmed, but I'm actually pretty happy with the results.
[00:07:39] Considering what the nominations were like a fair spread, like hell divers to walking away with two awards.
[00:07:45] That's fantastic.
[00:07:47] Um, Bellatro being recognized with at least three awards.
[00:07:51] I think just three.
[00:07:53] Awesome.
[00:07:53] Metaphor refantasio also winning three or four awards in there.
[00:07:57] Like great.
[00:07:58] You know, um, I think some in, uh, was it frost punk too?
[00:08:03] Also winning best sim slash strategy.
[00:08:05] Super pleased with that.
[00:08:07] Great.
[00:08:08] Great.
[00:08:08] Yeah, that was a great, I, frost punk too was so great and that was exciting to see that one.
[00:08:14] Yeah.
[00:08:14] So I think, so I think overall like pretty good wins.
[00:08:19] Um, and, uh, yeah, I don't know.
[00:08:23] So I'm, I'm relatively satisfied with it.
[00:08:25] I don't know.
[00:08:25] Cameron, was there a big, for you, was there a big upset or snub?
[00:08:33] Uh, I don't think so.
[00:08:35] I think everything, everything who won, everybody who won, I think is well deserved.
[00:08:40] Uh, I do think, oh no, I did have one snub and that was best adaptation.
[00:08:45] I think arcane is far and away the best adaptation.
[00:08:48] Uh, I know people liked fallout and I think fallout was well done, but arcane is insane.
[00:08:55] So I was, I was just shocked that like, I don't see how you can't give it to arcane, but it didn't, it didn't happen.
[00:09:02] But I don't think arcane really cares.
[00:09:04] So yeah, I, uh, out of those adaptations I had watched fallout.
[00:09:10] I started tomb raider and tomb raider just didn't click with me for whatever reason.
[00:09:14] And I don't necessarily think the show was bad.
[00:09:16] It just wasn't my jam.
[00:09:18] I wasn't in the right mood for it.
[00:09:20] Um, and I haven't even finished arcane season two, but, uh, I don't know in our discords predictions.
[00:09:26] I think I picked fallout.
[00:09:28] So I'm happy with the win there, but I think personally I would have gone arcane,
[00:09:31] even not having finished season two.
[00:09:35] And season two is crazy, dude.
[00:09:37] It's yeah, that's a great show.
[00:09:40] Well, Jake, let's get into the announcements.
[00:09:42] Uh, yeah, lots of, lots of very cool things announced.
[00:09:48] Um, let's, I think the one I wanted to mention from the very early, like the pre-show,
[00:09:55] and then we'll get into the main show, but there was, there was only one that I could like remember.
[00:10:00] So core keeper developers are making a new game called, uh,
[00:10:04] Qiona.
[00:10:07] Qura.
[00:10:08] It's an R.
[00:10:08] Yeah.
[00:10:10] 2D sandbox adventure for one day players that looks a lot like Terraria, but with like the art design of core keeper ish style,
[00:10:20] which if you've ever seen looks amazing.
[00:10:22] Oh yeah.
[00:10:23] It looks incredible.
[00:10:25] And I don't even know how they do the lighting with like the pixel graphics.
[00:10:29] Cause it looks nutty.
[00:10:30] Um, but yeah, I mean, that looks really cool.
[00:10:33] Core keeper is a fantastic game.
[00:10:34] So that was like, uh, I think the exciting one from the pre-show.
[00:10:38] That was Jake.
[00:10:39] Was there anything else in the pre-show that you liked?
[00:10:41] I'm sure I'm missing some, but one other that comes to mind immediately was actually the first one they showed.
[00:10:47] So it was the publisher for streets of rage for Dotemu, but also the, the game kitchen, the creators of blasphemous.
[00:10:55] They have some game coming out.
[00:10:57] That was like this 2d action.
[00:10:59] Oh, was that Ninja Gaiden?
[00:11:01] No, but it kind of along those lines.
[00:11:03] Right.
[00:11:04] Okay.
[00:11:05] Okay.
[00:11:05] Okay.
[00:11:05] Yeah.
[00:11:05] But they did talk about a Ninja Gaiden thing, like a 2d thing.
[00:11:09] Maybe that was Ninja Gaiden.
[00:11:10] I don't know.
[00:11:11] That was a long time ago.
[00:11:12] That was four hours.
[00:11:13] That's a point.
[00:11:15] I don't remember that.
[00:11:16] Yeah.
[00:11:17] Um, that, that looked really cool.
[00:11:19] I agree.
[00:11:20] Kiora looks amazing.
[00:11:22] Oh my gosh.
[00:11:23] That looks.
[00:11:24] That looks amazing.
[00:11:25] Like the pixel art and the pixel animations there were just stunning.
[00:11:28] So good.
[00:11:29] I'm assuming you can, they showed like, it looked like what I assumed to be co-op with at least like eight people.
[00:11:36] So it looks like a meaty one.
[00:11:38] Oh, from the pre-show, dude, I gotta say the creators of Sifu.
[00:11:43] When you hear that.
[00:11:45] Oh, yes.
[00:11:46] Like when you hear that, you're like, Ooh, what kind of action game are they making?
[00:11:51] They're making an online like action soccer game.
[00:11:56] Um, yeah, dude, they're making, dude, I gotta get, what is this called?
[00:12:02] Rematch?
[00:12:03] Maybe.
[00:12:05] Uh, yeah.
[00:12:06] So they're making an online competitive like street style soccer game.
[00:12:16] Rematch.
[00:12:17] It is called rematch.
[00:12:18] Okay.
[00:12:18] And it is an online like multiplayer soccer game, which you would not expect to be.
[00:12:29] No.
[00:12:30] The next game from the Sifu.
[00:12:32] And Sifu is an incredible game.
[00:12:34] Just dripping with style.
[00:12:36] And like one of the best action games, like whenever it came out.
[00:12:39] I mean, it's, it is incredible.
[00:12:41] So it's, you're like, you want to see like, what's the next thing they're doing?
[00:12:43] And then it's like, you're making a soccer game.
[00:12:46] Okay.
[00:12:47] I don't know, man.
[00:12:49] Have you seen Sherilyn soccer?
[00:12:52] That movie?
[00:12:54] Uh, I know.
[00:12:55] It's like a Kung Fu guy joins a professional soccer team.
[00:12:58] Is that what we're doing here with rematch?
[00:12:59] Is that what, is that what's happening?
[00:13:00] Kind of comes to mind.
[00:13:01] To, to be totally honest, um, that one didn't do it for me.
[00:13:06] I was really not, I was really not that interested in it, but man, I wish him the best of success
[00:13:12] and I hope that it's awesome.
[00:13:13] Uh, kind of a side note, um, from the new anthology series, Secret Level that just came
[00:13:20] out in Amazon Prime.
[00:13:21] You know, they have episodes dedicated to different games and I heard the ones for, I heard the
[00:13:27] one for Sifu was really cool and I'm interested in that and I heard the one for Armor Core
[00:13:30] is also cool.
[00:13:32] Jake, it is, uh, from the boss, Ms. Des, it's Ninja Gaiden.
[00:13:35] Okay, it is Ninja Gaiden.
[00:13:36] Yeah, that I think is going to be very, very cool.
[00:13:40] Um, those are two companies, right?
[00:13:42] That really know what they're doing when it comes to side-scrolling action.
[00:13:45] So, uh, I think you can, I think we can pretty safely bet that that'll be a good one.
[00:13:52] Well, okay.
[00:13:53] So, I think I have a list that's like somewhat in order of like when stuff was announced.
[00:13:57] So, um, and if I miss something, stop and remind me, but we started off with a pretty big bang.
[00:14:05] Uh, we had a, we had one before we had, uh, some successor to Thief that looked like a
[00:14:12] multiplayer, but I wasn't quite sure what it was.
[00:14:14] Thick as Thieves.
[00:14:15] Oh, right.
[00:14:16] Yeah, it, it seemed like maybe it was like a multiplayer.
[00:14:19] Oh yeah, PvP, VE.
[00:14:21] Yeah, take or leave it.
[00:14:23] Um, I hope it does well.
[00:14:27] Yes, that's one of those games where you're like, well, I hope it does well.
[00:14:30] But then we got the big kind of beefy announcement, uh, which is not, not even an announcement.
[00:14:37] We just got the Witcher 4, um, cinematic trailer, which I don't know, man.
[00:14:44] Like Witcher is huge and has so many fans and this is one of the biggest gaming franchises
[00:14:50] and like CD Projekt Red.
[00:14:51] And so I'm sure for so many people, like this was a hype, hype as heck moment.
[00:14:56] Just for me, this game's never coming out, Jake.
[00:15:00] Like it's coming out in 2028, like at the earliest.
[00:15:04] You know what I mean?
[00:15:05] Um, I really liked the Witcher 3.
[00:15:08] I think that the cinematic portrayed exceptionally well.
[00:15:12] Why the side quests in the Witcher 3 was so highly regarded because they tend to have
[00:15:16] these, um, intense moral stories with twists, right?
[00:15:21] Um, so I was pretty excited.
[00:15:23] I think Ciri's going to be an amazing protagonist.
[00:15:25] I loved what I saw there, but I'm with you.
[00:15:29] Unfortunately, like as much as I really enjoyed what I saw there, I'm going to forget about
[00:15:33] it pretty soon here because a bunch of games that are releasing in 2025 are going to, you
[00:15:38] know, take my attention away from what I remember from that trailer.
[00:15:42] So I think that trailer was really for generating some hype, but I probably think it's more for
[00:15:49] appeasing investors, right?
[00:15:51] To be like, Hey, Oh, CD project red is doing something cool.
[00:15:55] And we're, we're excited about it and people are excited about it.
[00:15:57] But yeah, so I will be lukewarm about that, but in the moment, super excited to see what
[00:16:02] I saw there.
[00:16:04] Yeah.
[00:16:04] I mean, this, this is one of the biggest games in the industry.
[00:16:08] Like there's no question about it.
[00:16:10] Um, they need, they recently just to give some context on that one.
[00:16:12] They recently talked to, I think the game director, which I believe is the director of, um, cyberpunk
[00:16:20] phantom Liberty who went over to direct the Witcher four.
[00:16:25] And what they said is that they're creating a new engine using, they're creating a new engine
[00:16:29] or doing, I don't know exactly what they're doing.
[00:16:31] They're doing some new engine.
[00:16:32] So they're going to take their time on the first iteration and what's going to be a new
[00:16:36] Witcher trilogy of games.
[00:16:38] Right.
[00:16:39] And so this first one is going to take longer, like five to six years.
[00:16:43] And then the next two they're hoping are going to take like, you know, around three years.
[00:16:48] So three years each.
[00:16:50] So like, I don't know.
[00:16:52] I, it's exciting, but we're not going to see a peep from this game for a long, long,
[00:16:57] long time.
[00:16:58] I agree.
[00:16:59] So, uh, we also, we got slay the spire too.
[00:17:04] Um, Jake, were you a big slay the spire fan?
[00:17:07] I actually never played it.
[00:17:10] Really?
[00:17:10] You never played slay the spire?
[00:17:11] Okay.
[00:17:12] See, I, lots of people love this game.
[00:17:14] I played a little bit and honestly, I just couldn't get into it.
[00:17:17] I think inscription hit way harder for me than this one.
[00:17:21] Yeah.
[00:17:22] I mean, I think for me, a deck builder is always a hard sell.
[00:17:28] Um, and the deck builder roguelike is an even harder sell.
[00:17:32] So despite all the praise that slay the slay the spire has received, I've just, I don't know.
[00:17:38] I just haven't really gone for it, but yeah, I'm with you.
[00:17:43] Inscription was kind of the pinnacle for that.
[00:17:45] Uh, for me, at least right now.
[00:17:50] And then, um, we got a game called shadow labyrinth, which looks like a metroidvania
[00:17:57] Pac-Man action game.
[00:17:59] What on earth?
[00:18:01] Which like that is Pac-Man, right?
[00:18:04] It's Pac-Man, right?
[00:18:05] Like, okay.
[00:18:06] So he, so I'm getting some more context for this one.
[00:18:08] So apparently this is the Pac-Man secret level episode is based on the new prime.
[00:18:15] Okay.
[00:18:17] So like maybe I need to go watch secret level.
[00:18:19] I feel like I need to watch secret level as like a, a person who likes at least like
[00:18:24] the, the, some specific episodes, but that's my plan.
[00:18:28] And I'm going to watch the episodes on the games that most interest me.
[00:18:31] Yeah.
[00:18:32] Shadow labyrinth is that one, which check out the, watch the trailer for that one.
[00:18:36] And you will see what we, we mean with like the Pac-Man vibes.
[00:18:39] It's insane.
[00:18:40] And then, um, next up, this is probably, I think for both Jake and myself, like the biggest
[00:18:45] shock surprise of the entire show, like out of nowhere, like no one, I don't know if anyone
[00:18:51] was expecting this at all.
[00:18:53] Elden ring night rain.
[00:18:56] What in the world?
[00:18:58] So it's this three player co-op, maybe action or roguelike.
[00:19:04] It's so I looked this up.
[00:19:06] I got some more context on it.
[00:19:08] It's a three player co-op roguelike where the lands between shifts and morphs between each
[00:19:17] session.
[00:19:18] And then each game session is three days, which consists of a 15 minute night and day cycle.
[00:19:27] So like 15 minutes at night, 15 minutes a day.
[00:19:31] And so what they've done is they've taken like the gameplay loop of Elden ring and condensed
[00:19:36] it like way down so that you're experiencing it in this condensed like three day session,
[00:19:43] but in a co-op sort of like boss rush style situation.
[00:19:50] Honestly, that's insane, right?
[00:19:51] It's insane.
[00:19:52] I think it says a few things.
[00:19:54] This is it speaks to the overwhelming success of Elden ring for from software.
[00:19:59] I don't think in a million years, they would have been able to turn out some kind of spinoff
[00:20:04] game like this without the crazy levels of success that they got from Elden ring.
[00:20:08] To me, this just kind of reeks of from software has probably been incubating this style of
[00:20:15] game for a long time, but just hasn't had the ability to pull the trigger on it.
[00:20:20] Elden ring's a massive hit.
[00:20:21] And they're like, guys, let's do it.
[00:20:24] This is our chance.
[00:20:25] We'll do this for Elden ring.
[00:20:27] You know, we'll make this spinoff.
[00:20:28] Um, what kind of blew my mind is, uh, it has, this game has way more like, uh, traversal
[00:20:38] ability, just like maneuverability of the players.
[00:20:41] Yeah.
[00:20:42] Which is crazy.
[00:20:43] Cause like Elden ring, uh, I remember even like Sekiro adding a jump was like a big deal.
[00:20:50] Like in, in dark souls, like you can kind of do this forward leap, but like Sekiro adding
[00:20:56] like significant jumping abilities and then being able to jump in Elden ring.
[00:21:01] Like this is stuff that's been around in video games for a long time now, but in a from software
[00:21:05] game, it was like, Whoa, you can jump in.
[00:21:07] You're literally just flying now in this game.
[00:21:09] You're flying.
[00:21:10] You're running on walls.
[00:21:11] Like, and I saw one of the moves is like, you have like angels wings and they were flying
[00:21:17] like 50 feet in the air and then landing and doing like a combo.
[00:21:20] I was like, Whoa.
[00:21:21] Yeah.
[00:21:22] Uh, this is some of the bosses though.
[00:21:24] Look incredible.
[00:21:25] Sorry.
[00:21:26] I'm not going to talk about this forever.
[00:21:27] I promise.
[00:21:27] But there's like a dark souls three boss, like just randomly in there.
[00:21:31] Yeah.
[00:21:31] Okay.
[00:21:32] So Eagle eyed from software fans also noted that nameless King from dark souls three made
[00:21:38] an appearance like nameless King.
[00:21:40] It was nameless King.
[00:21:41] And so I think, um, I don't know.
[00:21:44] I just kind of feel like Elden ring night rain is kind of just a fun victory lap for from
[00:21:51] software.
[00:21:51] Oh, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw like other famous bosses from dark souls from just
[00:21:59] from software's history.
[00:22:00] What if like demon of hatred from Sekiro shows up and you're trying to take on demon of hatred
[00:22:05] with two other people?
[00:22:06] Like that sounds like a great time.
[00:22:08] Dude, this is a cool, this is like just a really cool concept.
[00:22:13] Like if, if they pull this off, it's, it's, it's kind of like, it's like a new kind of,
[00:22:20] it's like a new thing kind of, isn't it?
[00:22:22] I mean, I think it'll be super successful because Elden ring has been super successful.
[00:22:27] Yeah.
[00:22:28] I mean, that IP isn't.
[00:22:29] Yeah.
[00:22:30] I, I just kind of want to reiterate.
[00:22:31] I think part of the reason why Cameron and I were so shocked and we're kind of gushing
[00:22:35] about this is because stuff like this is super rare.
[00:22:39] I feel like because the games industry has kind of got itself in this chokehold and is
[00:22:44] being really safe with the types of games are making.
[00:22:47] And I'm talking specifically about like, uh, just bigger budget games to see from software
[00:22:53] be like, no, let's just put out this thing, you know, and let's just see how it goes.
[00:22:57] Like to me, this just feels like an experiment feels like a gamble and it feels like them just
[00:23:01] doing something for fun.
[00:23:02] Wild experiment.
[00:23:03] And so it's just, it's just fun to be like, Holy cow.
[00:23:06] We're seeing something totally out of left field here.
[00:23:09] Let's check it out.
[00:23:10] You know, it's a shame.
[00:23:11] We just don't get to see more of that.
[00:23:13] I feel like right now.
[00:23:15] Crazy, crazy.
[00:23:16] Like, yeah, I love what you said there.
[00:23:18] Just, they can just try stuff out now.
[00:23:21] They can try out weird concepts and they don't care.
[00:23:24] Yeah.
[00:23:24] Let them put out three weird games.
[00:23:26] I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm here for it.
[00:23:28] I'm totally here for it.
[00:23:29] That's crazy.
[00:23:33] For me personally and probably definitely.
[00:23:36] Yeah.
[00:23:38] Next up, we got a new, very tiny trailer for a game that will probably never see the light
[00:23:45] of it.
[00:23:45] No, I keep saying these, these games will come out eventually, but anyway, it's project robot.
[00:23:51] This is from the creators of shadow of the Colossus, last guardian eco, which are highly,
[00:23:55] highly, highly regarded PlayStation games.
[00:23:58] I still have never played any of those.
[00:24:00] That's like one of the few games on the Pantheon that I haven't touched.
[00:24:03] So out of those Jake, I know you really love the last guardian, right?
[00:24:06] Or is it shadow of the Colossus?
[00:24:07] So I played the remake about a year ago.
[00:24:09] I fell in love with it because, um, and honestly playing that game made me realize like where
[00:24:17] I've seen the DNA of shadow of the Colossus since it released, but also where I haven't
[00:24:23] and where I've been kind of surprised that people haven't been able to pull off a game quite
[00:24:28] like shadow of the Colossus playing.
[00:24:30] It felt, it felt wholly unique.
[00:24:33] Um, and it's got a wonderful ending.
[00:24:38] Um, honestly, just, just an ending that I really enjoyed and I don't want to spoil it cause Cameron
[00:24:45] hasn't played it, but like totally caught me off guard.
[00:24:49] So I actually own, maybe that'll be a Christmas break game for me.
[00:24:54] And it's short.
[00:24:55] Honestly, I think I beat it in definitely less than 10 hours.
[00:24:58] And I think you could, Oh yeah.
[00:25:01] More extras than dang.
[00:25:03] Okay.
[00:25:03] I actually own the last guardian.
[00:25:04] I'm really compelled to move that up.
[00:25:06] Well, that's too.
[00:25:08] That's coming sometime in the next decade.
[00:25:10] So, um, next up we have split fiction, which is the next game from the, it takes two studio.
[00:25:16] This looked great.
[00:25:17] I mean, this looks fantastic.
[00:25:19] Yeah.
[00:25:20] It looks like a ton of fun.
[00:25:21] So the, the synopsis is, uh, two story writers, one who writes sci-fi, the other fantasy
[00:25:27] must traverse level swapping between both genres in order to escape the simulation that they're
[00:25:31] stuck in.
[00:25:33] Uh, so it seems like they'll be able to do some fun stuff with like sci-fi and fantasy worlds
[00:25:38] and tropes and like things like that.
[00:25:40] And, and it takes two was just a super fun time.
[00:25:43] So I, I, I expect another like great co-op experience from the studio and it looks fantastic.
[00:25:48] Yeah.
[00:25:49] And it also looks like they're taking it a few steps beyond it takes two and that like
[00:25:53] they showcase this one part and which is very classic, you know, from Hazel Light Studios
[00:25:58] where it's co-op and one person is doing one thing while another person is doing something
[00:26:03] different.
[00:26:03] But it looks like that they're even splitting that up by genre.
[00:26:07] So at one point they showed somebody from a third person perspective, kind of hovering
[00:26:13] over specific like pads that like propelled them forward.
[00:26:17] But the other person is doing like a 2d platformer simultaneously.
[00:26:23] So a part of me is like, technically what on earth is happening in this game?
[00:26:27] Um, to me that sounds just kind of insane.
[00:26:31] Uh, so it just, and they said that like in every single level there'll be different chief
[00:26:35] mechanics.
[00:26:35] So I think you're going to get like a huge variety of gameplay, um, which, which I think
[00:26:42] is on the whole, a good thing.
[00:26:44] It might lead to some like uneven moments, like in terms of which just like maybe there's
[00:26:49] a mechanic that only gets used once and you wish it was there more and there's a mechanic
[00:26:52] that you just absolutely hate.
[00:26:53] But it looks awesome.
[00:26:55] I'm excited.
[00:26:57] Yeah.
[00:26:58] That was a great showing here.
[00:26:59] And it comes out March 6th.
[00:27:02] It's like right around the corner.
[00:27:04] That's, that's true.
[00:27:05] That one's super soon.
[00:27:06] Is it dude?
[00:27:07] March is in dude.
[00:27:08] Okay.
[00:27:08] We need to pause for one second.
[00:27:10] Let's look at the March, 2025.
[00:27:12] March was looking pretty empty and then this showcase it.
[00:27:16] And I think, I think three or four games announced March dates.
[00:27:20] So it's February.
[00:27:21] That's just a joke, right?
[00:27:25] Cause you have kingdom come deliverance to rift of the Necrodancer civilization seven
[00:27:31] assassin's creed shadows, uh, a vast,
[00:27:35] loud, like a dragon pirate, Yakuza and monster hunter wilds.
[00:27:41] Woof.
[00:27:42] Dude.
[00:27:43] Oh boy.
[00:27:45] It's too much.
[00:27:48] That's, that's a lot, but yeah.
[00:27:49] And then you've got this like in March, which is, that is super soon.
[00:27:52] That's exciting though.
[00:27:53] I see.
[00:27:53] I love that.
[00:27:54] I love to see an exciting trailer filled with game.
[00:27:57] We haven't seen anything on this game.
[00:28:00] Then we suddenly, we get a full blown trailer that looks great and it's coming super soon.
[00:28:05] Dude.
[00:28:05] That's so satisfying.
[00:28:06] I love, I love that.
[00:28:07] I love it because I don't like seeing, sorry.
[00:28:10] Uh, cause I'm not going to forget it.
[00:28:12] It was that, that type of marketing, that type of trailer, that type of release window that
[00:28:19] will stay in my brain between December 12th and March 6th.
[00:28:24] Absolutely.
[00:28:25] That's that is a well spent like marketing dollars.
[00:28:30] You've condensed it down and you put it in this window where everybody is going to be
[00:28:35] able to have time to play it because they're going to get bored of monster in her wilds
[00:28:41] after a few weeks.
[00:28:42] Um, but yeah, uh, we got the first trailer for borderlands for, I don't think Jake or
[00:28:48] I really care about this franchise at all.
[00:28:51] Pretty much.
[00:28:52] I think this, this game had its heyday, but a lot of people love this and it seems to
[00:28:57] continue to be popular.
[00:28:58] I hope that they're doing something interesting with the formula to maybe switch it up a little
[00:29:01] bit, but maybe they don't need to.
[00:29:04] I don't know.
[00:29:04] I mean, look, I'm super happy for borderlands fans and I hope that this is, um, cause borderlands
[00:29:10] three kind of got lukewarm reception.
[00:29:11] I hope this is a better one, but yeah, I just don't think that this is the game that gets
[00:29:16] me into borderlands.
[00:29:18] No, no, I don't think so.
[00:29:22] Uh, we got a new, so, so Ryu got got got to go.
[00:29:28] RGG studios.
[00:29:30] Well, I like RGG just their pension for making so many games is just insane.
[00:29:40] So not only are we getting pirate Yakuza, they also announced a new virtual fighter that
[00:29:44] they're working on.
[00:29:44] And this like sick looking third person, third person open world action game called project
[00:29:51] century, which I don't know how this, like this studio is just churning them, churning
[00:29:58] them out.
[00:29:59] It's awesome.
[00:30:00] Like they're pancakes or something.
[00:30:02] It's awesome.
[00:30:02] If you're an RGG fan, which there are many and many RGG fans, you're doing good.
[00:30:08] You're eating good, man.
[00:30:09] You got games.
[00:30:11] You are eating dang good.
[00:30:14] Uh, let's see here.
[00:30:16] Turok origins.
[00:30:18] They did it.
[00:30:18] Warframe is still going has a super weird Y2K inspired.
[00:30:22] Is that because the core audience of Warframe is like 36 years old?
[00:30:26] Like me.
[00:30:27] Probably.
[00:30:28] If you're younger than that, you don't remember Y2K.
[00:30:31] So, uh, and then a Capcom and then a new Animusha, which I think for a lot of people,
[00:30:37] this is huge.
[00:30:39] This is a massive announcement.
[00:30:41] I've never played an Animusha.
[00:30:43] Have you played it?
[00:30:44] No, I've heard good things about them and I think I have them on a wishlist somewhere.
[00:30:49] I might play one and then, but I don't know.
[00:30:52] The trailer looked fine.
[00:30:53] I just don't, I don't know.
[00:30:57] I just don't know this franchise.
[00:30:58] So I didn't have that sort of reason to be super excited about it, but hopefully it's
[00:31:04] amazing, especially for Animusha fans.
[00:31:08] Yeah.
[00:31:08] I mean, if this is good, I'll definitely, I'll definitely look at it.
[00:31:12] I mean, it has, it looks great.
[00:31:14] It has cool vibes.
[00:31:15] I think if I'm not mistaken, Animusha is, uh, like feudal Japan horror game.
[00:31:25] I think.
[00:31:27] I couldn't tell you.
[00:31:28] Sorry.
[00:31:30] No, I have no idea either.
[00:31:31] I'm gonna have to look up some context on that one.
[00:31:33] And then shout out to the shortest trailer video game trailer of all time.
[00:31:37] Sonic racing cross worlds.
[00:31:39] I, this was, I, this is snarky and I'm going to say it again.
[00:31:44] I said it in our discord, probably into the group that we were watching the game show with,
[00:31:49] but do, do Sonic characters need cars?
[00:31:53] Like they're fast.
[00:31:55] Like that's their thing.
[00:31:56] The thing is that they're fast.
[00:31:58] Why are they in cars?
[00:32:00] Maybe there's why?
[00:32:01] I don't know.
[00:32:03] I don't, I don't understand Sonic as a franchise and I wish that I did, but I just don't, I
[00:32:11] don't really like the movies.
[00:32:13] I don't really like any of the games.
[00:32:16] I don't.
[00:32:17] Mario is just way better.
[00:32:19] We've picked a side in, uh, although that's 1995, Mario Sonic Atlas RPG did not get announced.
[00:32:27] And that's disappointing.
[00:32:30] Atlas had a chance, dude.
[00:32:31] Atlas was on stage a few times.
[00:32:33] They could have said something.
[00:32:35] Um, uh, dude.
[00:32:37] Yeah.
[00:32:37] My, my thing with Sonic is I don't have a super thorough history with Sonic.
[00:32:43] I've played what Sonic too.
[00:32:46] I actually liked Sonic Sonic Generations quite a lot.
[00:32:49] Um, my kids really liked the TV show, Sonic Boom and Sonic Prime.
[00:32:54] And I thought they were good TV shows.
[00:32:57] Um, but yeah, and I think the movies are fine.
[00:33:00] I think my kids, I think my kids want to see Sonic 3, but yeah, I don't know.
[00:33:06] I don't know.
[00:33:07] A Sonic racing game with cars to me just doesn't really make sense.
[00:33:10] If you are a Sonic historian and you have a reason for that, could you please explain it
[00:33:15] to me?
[00:33:16] And I'm asking sincerely.
[00:33:17] I'm not trying to be mean.
[00:33:19] I just don't get it.
[00:33:21] I don't get it.
[00:33:23] Uh, next up we saw Mafia the Old Country, which, um, honestly, this looks, this looks
[00:33:29] really good.
[00:33:30] And that was gameplay we were looking at.
[00:33:32] And I mean, visually, this is really impressive looking.
[00:33:35] Like it looks like it had really cool combat.
[00:33:38] Probably has a fun Italian mafia story in there.
[00:33:42] I, I've started the mafia definitive edition on, on game pass, which is on game pass, by
[00:33:47] the way, I'm having a great time when I, I'm probably going to finish that one and it's
[00:33:51] not that long.
[00:33:51] It's only like 10 hours.
[00:33:52] So nice.
[00:33:54] This was actually one.
[00:33:55] This is a great showing for me.
[00:33:56] I really liked this trailer.
[00:33:58] Yeah, I agree.
[00:33:58] Really great showing.
[00:34:01] And then the last two, these are the last two that, um, so Jeff, so Jake explain the
[00:34:07] hype for this for me, because Jeff Keighley hyped this up.
[00:34:11] Like it was the, one of the greatest announcements that was ever given to the game awards, but
[00:34:16] it kind of seemed like you could hear a pin drop and it was like, and I don't want to
[00:34:28] say that.
[00:34:28] You know what?
[00:34:29] Because there's probably a huge number of Okami fans out there.
[00:34:32] Okay.
[00:34:33] But they announced that they are working on a sequel to Okami and it is starting like pre-production.
[00:34:43] So once again, another announcement for a game that who knows when we will ever see no
[00:34:49] idea what it is.
[00:34:50] We don't even know the name of it, but we just know that they're working.
[00:34:52] Yeah.
[00:34:52] Okami historians, you're going to have to fill in the gaps here.
[00:34:54] But from what I understand is that, um, despite it being like critically acclaimed that in despite
[00:35:03] this game being re-released a billion times, um, the studio got shut down.
[00:35:10] It closed or it got bought and dissolved or something.
[00:35:14] Um, and there was absolutely zero hope that this game would ever get a sequel.
[00:35:22] And so I think, uh, and I think Jeff Keighley actually phrased it like this.
[00:35:26] Somehow the stars have aligned where I'm pretty sure that this IP was lost from the original
[00:35:31] creators.
[00:35:31] Like, Oh, is that what he meant?
[00:35:34] Yeah.
[00:35:34] I'm pretty sure that this, this game IP in the studio and the head creators have a really
[00:35:39] difficult history.
[00:35:41] Um, like a really messy history.
[00:35:44] And so I think, I don't know how, and I think this is why it's such a big deal is to have
[00:35:50] the original game director and a new studio, which is called Clovers.
[00:35:56] And the original studio is called Clover singular that was shut down kind of getting the, the,
[00:36:02] the original team back together to make a sequel feels like the impossible has occurred.
[00:36:08] So I think that's why it's such a big deal.
[00:36:10] I know that Okami is like a super beloved game.
[00:36:13] I got this game because it's so beloved.
[00:36:16] Um, there was a lot that I really liked about it, but it just, it, I'm sorry.
[00:36:21] I feel like this is a, one of the cardinal gaming sins and I have committed it, but I got into
[00:36:27] this game, I don't know, maybe six or seven hours and I just felt like it was slow as heck.
[00:36:34] And I just, yeah.
[00:36:35] So I, so I bounced on it and as much as I love looking at it, as much as I love like the
[00:36:41] ideas that were in this game, it just didn't do it for me.
[00:36:45] So I'm really hoping that, uh, a new version or a sequel to this game kind of with,
[00:36:51] uh, modern quality of life and mechanical changes in faster pacing does it for me because it's
[00:36:59] gorgeous.
[00:37:00] And the stuff that we saw despite this, what's hilarious is they announced that the game was
[00:37:05] about to start pre-production.
[00:37:07] And so all the imagery that we saw, like none of that's going to be in the game.
[00:37:12] It looked beautiful.
[00:37:13] I don't like that.
[00:37:14] But none of it is, is going to be there.
[00:37:17] And we really don't know what this game is going to be at all.
[00:37:23] Yeah.
[00:37:23] I don't, I don't like it.
[00:37:26] I, I don't, not that I, I'm not saying anything against Okami.
[00:37:29] I just like, just don't, don't talk about this until it's real.
[00:37:34] Like, I just, I don't want to hear about it until it's real.
[00:37:38] I mean, it's real, but it's not real.
[00:37:40] You know what I'm saying?
[00:37:40] I don't know.
[00:37:41] Nothing's been, no assets have been created.
[00:37:43] It hasn't started pre-production.
[00:37:44] We're in precarious funding and financial situations in the gaming industry.
[00:37:51] Yeah.
[00:37:53] And finally, Jake, we have a pretty, pretty huge trailer drop.
[00:38:03] Uh, this is a pretty big get for Jeff Keighley in my opinion.
[00:38:06] Uh, the new Naughty Dog IP, Intergalactic, the Heretic Prophet.
[00:38:14] We got an in-engine trailer for this of a sci-fi future punk style world with a lot of brands in there.
[00:38:27] Porsche is still around in this universe, by the way.
[00:38:30] Yeah.
[00:38:30] So like a Porsche branded spaceship, which, Hey, you know what?
[00:38:34] Let's fund the game.
[00:38:35] I'm, I'm all for it.
[00:38:36] Like let's use that Porsche sponsorship money to fund the game.
[00:38:40] That's a great idea, honestly.
[00:38:41] But, um, Adidas also was in there.
[00:38:45] If you see, if you notice that.
[00:38:46] I saw the Adidas.
[00:38:49] This is Naughty Dog's new game.
[00:38:50] Obviously Naughty Dog, one of kind of the preeminent game studios, right?
[00:38:55] Like if you're, if you're talking about like the, the Mount Rushmore of game studios, I think they're up there.
[00:39:02] Probably.
[00:39:03] Last of Us, one of the most popular franchises.
[00:39:06] This is their next game.
[00:39:07] Jake, give me your honest thoughts on Naughty Dog's next look.
[00:39:11] Okay.
[00:39:12] I'm very excited for this.
[00:39:14] I'm excited.
[00:39:16] Really?
[00:39:16] You truly are excited.
[00:39:17] Let me tell you why I'm excited.
[00:39:18] And let me tell you my one big concern.
[00:39:21] Okay.
[00:39:22] Yep.
[00:39:22] I'm excited because Naughty Dog is very cool, but I personally am so sick of seeing stuff for The Last of Us.
[00:39:30] I am so, and just to be entirely clear, um, The Last of Us never really appealed to me and I haven't played either of them because I'm not a big fan of zombie stuff.
[00:39:44] Um, it has been so long that I have not played The Last of Us that I kind of almost wear it as a badge of honor of having never played it.
[00:39:53] That I'll probably break at some point.
[00:39:56] Like The Last of Us remastered is like 10 bucks or something right now with PlayStation's 30th anniversary.
[00:40:00] Right.
[00:40:00] So that will probably break.
[00:40:02] So I'm excited to see something else.
[00:40:04] I'm excited to see something that, um, feels a little closer in tone to Uncharted than it does The Last of Us, which I like.
[00:40:18] You mean not like the darkest thing that you've ever seen or heard?
[00:40:22] Listen, I listen to the most depressing music ever.
[00:40:23] I don't need to play the most depressing games always, you know?
[00:40:27] It is.
[00:40:27] The Last of Us 2 is the most depressing game ever made.
[00:40:31] That's for sure.
[00:40:32] So it feels, it feels serious still.
[00:40:35] Don't get me wrong, but it feels more appropriately lighthearted for something that has some serious overtones.
[00:40:41] Um, so yeah, I don't know.
[00:40:44] It, it.
[00:40:45] And Kumail Nanjiani.
[00:40:46] Gonna be in it, right?
[00:40:48] We saw his portrait in there.
[00:40:50] Um, I liked, I liked a lot of what I saw.
[00:40:53] Here's my big concern.
[00:40:55] Is when you finally fly down, give it to me.
[00:40:57] When you fly down to the planet, uh, the protagonist busts out this sword and is fighting this cool looking enemy.
[00:41:04] And I said to myself, please don't be a Souls-like.
[00:41:08] I actually, which is rare because between the two of us, I'm the Souls-obsessed fan.
[00:41:14] Um, but man, I just want to play a really cool action game from Naughty Dog.
[00:41:19] I don't think Naughty Dogs.
[00:41:20] I don't think they would do that, right?
[00:41:22] Like, this probably is.
[00:41:23] No, no, no, no.
[00:41:24] This is gonna be like an action game in the sense that.
[00:41:26] Naughty Dog.
[00:41:27] Yeah, it's Neil Druckmann.
[00:41:29] He's gonna stick to what he knows, which is third-person action game.
[00:41:33] No.
[00:41:33] And that's what I want.
[00:41:35] So, I just got concerned because it was small enemy with sword fighting big monster by themself.
[00:41:40] And I thought, oh my gosh, this, every single Souls-like trailer has this exact moment.
[00:41:47] I'll say the one thing about, like, The Last of Us 2 is the combat is actually really good.
[00:41:53] It's really quite good.
[00:41:54] It's very, like, visceral, very, like, violent combat.
[00:41:58] But it's, like, a little nuanced and it's very, there's, like, ragdoll physics.
[00:42:06] And, like, if you shoot guys in the leg, like, they'll start limping and, like, they'll lose their, like, it's very, very kind of inter-tactile in that way.
[00:42:15] And I expect to kind of see the same things with this.
[00:42:18] I'll be honest, I think whatever they make, I'm sure, is gonna be super dope.
[00:42:23] This trailer, like, didn't really do it for me.
[00:42:25] I'm not sure why.
[00:42:26] I also hate the name.
[00:42:28] I hate it.
[00:42:31] Intergalactic, The Heretic Prophet.
[00:42:34] Intergalactic, The Heretic Prophet is one of the most generic, dumb sci-fi video game names that I've ever heard.
[00:42:40] It could change.
[00:42:41] That being said, I have full confidence.
[00:42:46] I have full confidence that whatever Naughty Dog makes is gonna be, like, insane, of an insane quality bar and just, like, really fantastic.
[00:42:55] So, I just don't think this was, like, the greatest showing as a trailer.
[00:43:00] I also didn't really get a vibe for what, like, the game actually is gonna be, which I also don't love.
[00:43:06] And the other thing is, like, who knows when this game is coming.
[00:43:09] That's what I was just gonna ask you.
[00:43:10] Is this a game for the PS6?
[00:43:13] Yes.
[00:43:14] Yeah.
[00:43:15] I think this is a PS6 debut title.
[00:43:19] Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised.
[00:43:20] I think there's no way this makes the end of the PS5 generation.
[00:43:23] Although, we just got the PS5 Pro.
[00:43:25] So, I imagine PS6 is two to three years away.
[00:43:33] I would say probably three years away because I think the generations are getting longer.
[00:43:38] Yeah.
[00:43:40] Yeah.
[00:43:41] So, I think coming out in two years from, in the year or two years from now.
[00:43:49] So, we're ending 2024.
[00:43:50] So, coming out either, like, holiday 2026 or holiday 2027.
[00:43:59] Yeah.
[00:43:59] I think I could see either.
[00:44:03] And then, I think this will be, like, the debut title for that, which is crazy.
[00:44:08] Which, that being said, though, we don't have a...
[00:44:16] That would mean that Naughty Dog doesn't release a PS5 game.
[00:44:20] So, maybe not.
[00:44:22] Whoa.
[00:44:22] Whoa.
[00:44:22] That would be nuts.
[00:44:25] That would be nuts, right?
[00:44:26] Yeah.
[00:44:26] Unless you count the remasters, remakes...
[00:44:29] No.
[00:44:31] ...whatevers.
[00:44:31] I don't think so.
[00:44:33] I mean, they remastered Last of Us 2 and then they remastered Last of Us 1.
[00:44:36] So, that would, like, be their PS5 games.
[00:44:38] Well, that means that they don't have a new game.
[00:44:42] PS5 does not get a Naughty Dog game, which is crazy to think.
[00:44:45] Like, though I imagine it'll be, like, a cross...
[00:44:48] It'll be, like, a cross-gen thing.
[00:44:50] I'm sure.
[00:44:51] That's what it's going to be.
[00:44:52] And it might have to be, right?
[00:44:54] I mean, look at this last console generational shift in how many games...
[00:45:00] Yeah.
[00:45:00] It'll be the same.
[00:45:01] Like, The Last of Us 2 ran on PS4 and it ran, like, really great.
[00:45:05] But then they had the 60 FPS upgrade for PS5.
[00:45:10] Yeah.
[00:45:12] Yeah.
[00:45:12] Which is how I played it.
[00:45:14] Yeah.
[00:45:15] And it was great, but it is the most depressing game of all time.
[00:45:18] So, I think, Jake, to your point, if we get a little bit more unchartedness in this, I will
[00:45:22] be super happy.
[00:45:23] Yeah.
[00:45:23] I will be much happier if it's just a little lighter in tone.
[00:45:26] And again, caveat, like, I haven't played the games, but I've been kind of put off from
[00:45:30] the games because the game, like, The Last of Us games.
[00:45:33] Because one, they're zombie.
[00:45:34] And two, they're so, so serious and dark and sad.
[00:45:38] Oh, dear.
[00:45:39] Yeah.
[00:45:40] They're unequivocally darker than any game that you've probably ever played.
[00:45:45] Yeah.
[00:45:46] Uh.
[00:45:47] So, that's that.
[00:45:48] Uh.
[00:45:49] Naughty Dog.
[00:45:49] So, who knows when we'll see that once.
[00:45:51] Um.
[00:45:52] Oh, yeah.
[00:45:53] And we did.
[00:45:53] We also forgot.
[00:45:54] Um.
[00:45:54] We got a full gameplay trailer for Outer Worlds 2.
[00:45:57] That is the last thing I was going to sneak in there.
[00:46:00] Cameron, this is, this is insane.
[00:46:01] Because if the Outer Worlds 2 comes out in 2025, Obsidian will have two games next year.
[00:46:07] Avowed in February.
[00:46:09] And then the Outer Worlds 2 probably holiday if it does come out in 2025.
[00:46:14] And if that's the case, Obsidian with two games, Fable, Clockwork Revolution, South of Midnight.
[00:46:23] Dude, 2025 is shaping up to be the most realistically year of the Xbox that they've been promising for a long time.
[00:46:32] You think, is Clockwork Revolution slated for 2025?
[00:46:35] Oh, maybe, maybe I fudged that.
[00:46:37] I don't think they said they released it.
[00:46:39] I retract that, but, uh.
[00:46:42] I'm going to guess Clockwork Revolution is not.
[00:46:45] That's too, it'd be too many games for Xbox.
[00:46:48] Yeah, they, they, they need to spread the love.
[00:46:52] Um.
[00:46:53] Yeah, they haven't said.
[00:46:54] But, let's see, South of Midnight, Avowed, uh, Fable, and then now the Outer Worlds 2, right?
[00:47:02] Those are all slated for 2025.
[00:47:04] I mean, if we did get Clockwork Revolution, that would be insane, bro.
[00:47:08] That would be a, that would be a packed year.
[00:47:12] Anyway, yeah, we got, um, really expansive look at what the Outer Worlds 2 is.
[00:47:18] I think, I think it looks better than the first one.
[00:47:21] One of our very first episodes, or at least in the first year of the Pre-Oder Bonus podcast, um, we do, uh, an episode on the Outer Worlds.
[00:47:29] And, which was a good time, you know, and it got good reviews, um, from what I recall when it came out.
[00:47:35] This does look like an upgrade, um, on the original game in a lot of ways.
[00:47:41] I like the Outer Worlds 1 in a lot of ways, but a lot of ways I also didn't.
[00:47:45] I think the gameplay left a lot to be desired.
[00:47:47] The gameplay looks like it's a lot improved.
[00:47:50] Um, it looks like there's a lot more going on, which I'm personally excited for.
[00:47:54] So, if they can, if they can make the combat more fun, I think I would be, like, deeply invested in an Outer Worlds game.
[00:48:00] I just, I felt the combat and the first one was, like, pretty lackluster.
[00:48:04] Yeah, I think that's pretty fair.
[00:48:06] Um, yeah, I'm trying to think if there was anything else that stood out to me.
[00:48:10] There are a lot of, a lot of games.
[00:48:14] There's a lot of live service games that were packed into this show.
[00:48:19] Probably, like, 20, and I could not tell you.
[00:48:24] Mostly, so there's, there's three to four anime waifu live service gacha games that are indistinguishable.
[00:48:34] From one another.
[00:48:36] But they're all making billions.
[00:48:38] To a degree that we literally watched, like, the four or five trailers back to back to back to back.
[00:48:44] And I could not tell you which game was which.
[00:48:46] Not even, I couldn't, I literally could not.
[00:48:48] We were arguing if a game was Zenla Zone Zero or Honkai Star Rail.
[00:48:56] Or Wondering.
[00:48:57] A Wuthering Waves.
[00:48:59] Wuthering.
[00:49:00] Um, and then there's like, there's like two more.
[00:49:04] And they all look the same.
[00:49:05] I don't, I don't, somebody, somebody in the Discord or somebody on somewhere.
[00:49:10] Like, make a infographic.
[00:49:16] I don't know.
[00:49:17] Make an infographic, please.
[00:49:19] And send it to us.
[00:49:21] That it, that shows the differences between all these games and their titles and like their, their audiences and their fan bases and stuff.
[00:49:28] You know what's pretty nuts, though?
[00:49:29] I was reading this today.
[00:49:31] Somebody was saying the easiest way to make it as a streamer is to stream a Hoyoverse game on YouTube.
[00:49:41] That, uh, I can't remember, it was some streamer they said in, um, they had been streaming for 10 years on Twitch.
[00:49:49] And then they switched to YouTube and they started streaming Hoyoverse games.
[00:49:53] And they said they had never dreamt of the numbers that they were seeing after making that switch.
[00:49:59] Um, those games.
[00:50:01] Interesting.
[00:50:01] Those games are so freaking popular, right?
[00:50:05] They're very, yeah.
[00:50:06] They're crazy.
[00:50:07] I don't know.
[00:50:08] You, you don't have to be into them, but I think you do have to like realize that.
[00:50:12] Holy cow.
[00:50:14] There are a ton of players who are just super interested in this type of content and playing these types of games, which is why we have so many of them and why they all seem to look similar because it's a formula that's working, man.
[00:50:27] They all have like a million concurrent players.
[00:50:29] Yeah.
[00:50:29] Yeah.
[00:50:30] And they're all making a million bucks.
[00:50:33] Anime waifu hot babe games.
[00:50:35] Well, fun game awards and other game awards in the books for 2024.
[00:50:43] And with that, Jake, we are coming up on the end of the year.
[00:50:47] Uh, you'll get this episode, uh, pretty soon.
[00:50:52] Hopefully very shortly after today.
[00:50:55] Today's the 12th.
[00:50:55] Um, and then next week you will get our prerecorded a game of the year episode.
[00:51:04] So you can hear our game of the year and our discussion on that.
[00:51:08] Um, Jake, any other final thoughts on the game awards for this year?
[00:51:14] Uh, I don't know if I have anything very new to say other than, um, big props to Jeff Keighley.
[00:51:22] We all dunk on him, but honestly, the guy always takes and reviews his notes from the year before.
[00:51:28] He hasn't found the perfect reproducible formula for the game awards, but hats off to him for including that new award that he gave to Amir.
[00:51:39] Oh, shoot.
[00:51:39] What's his last name?
[00:51:40] Oh, that was a really touching moment.
[00:51:42] Crap.
[00:51:43] I can't remember his last name.
[00:51:44] I feel so bad.
[00:51:45] Um, I've seen him before.
[00:51:48] I've actually even seen this content before just circling like, uh, um, social media.
[00:51:54] Anyway, he gave this award, uh, for somebody who has been helping devs who have been impacted by the games layoffs.
[00:52:00] Right.
[00:52:00] And so this was Jeff Keighley's way of actually addressing that the games industry is going through a tumultuous cycle with all these layoffs.
[00:52:08] Um, and recognizing somebody who was doing good, helping these game devs find new work.
[00:52:14] And they, they said that they had found, um, uh, they had helped 3000 people get hired back into the games industry after they had been laid off, which is incredible.
[00:52:24] It's incredible that somebody is doing this.
[00:52:27] Incredible.
[00:52:27] So I am super appreciative for that segment.
[00:52:31] I thought it was very smart and correct of Geely to take one on the chin, um, with all the self-deprecating jokes that they had about the game awards, um, about the game awards featuring more trailers than, than actual award time.
[00:52:47] Um, I thought you could tell he was even getting uncomfortable.
[00:52:51] I feel like on stage with some of the jokes that they were making about him, but I was like, way to get up there and just kind of take it on the chin for knowing that your show is flawed and that you are at least learning how to laugh at your mistakes and then learn from them.
[00:53:04] Um, and then finally, uh, we already talked about this, but the beautiful final speech, uh, from head of Larry and studios from, uh, Sven's, uh, winky.
[00:53:14] Right.
[00:53:15] Uh, I think that those were three moments that were, are worth kind of celebrating or worth recognizing that Jeff Keely has incorporated those or allowed those to happen in the game awards.
[00:53:25] Um, instead of brushing aside the criticism he gets, cause he easily could, but, uh, he at least did that to change the game awards from last year.
[00:53:36] Yeah, absolutely.
[00:53:38] Um, yes.
[00:53:40] Uh, that was a super heartfelt moment.
[00:53:42] Felt super genuine.
[00:53:43] What a great dude, man.
[00:53:44] What a, what an awesome person just doing awesome stuff.
[00:53:48] That was like really inspiring actually, to be honest.
[00:53:51] So great, great moments.
[00:53:54] Um, oh, and quick update.
[00:53:57] I just found this tweet on intergalactic, the heretic prophet 250 developers been working on it for the last four years.
[00:54:05] And then the story is set in an ultra alternate universe where space travel has significantly advanced by 1986.
[00:54:12] Oh, interesting.
[00:54:13] So that does explain some of the setting, which, okay, that's a lot, that's a little bit cooler.
[00:54:18] Okay.
[00:54:19] Definitely.
[00:54:20] Definitely cooler.
[00:54:21] But anyways, okay.
[00:54:22] So four years.
[00:54:22] So, you know, in the next two years we could see this like before PS5's end of life.
[00:54:28] Maybe, maybe there's a shot.
[00:54:30] There's a shot.
[00:54:32] There is, there is a shot.
[00:54:33] Okay.
[00:54:34] Amir sat.
[00:54:34] Well, ladies and gentlemen, that's right.
[00:54:36] Amir sat that.
[00:54:36] That's his last name.
[00:54:39] Nope.
[00:54:39] You're good.
