[00:01:18] We normally ask our guests a couple of questions to get us going here. Answer me this. Number one. What is your earliest video gaming memory? Okay, what's in that memory vault of yours? You're earliest gaming memory.

[00:01:34] Yeah, I think that has to be like just one of my first memories general. I think it was playing the original NES on like carpet floor. I was probably like four or five or six. I don't know, I don't know how early you can remember.

[00:01:51] So I feel like I've forced it. It's a little... But I do remember like, you know, sitting really close playing the duck hunt and Mario, we're just like over and over and over. Because I think that was one of the only games for it.

[00:02:04] I had duck hunt with like the little gun. Crazy? Yeah. Fucking gun in NES. That'd be too violent now though. It was mind blowing then, and it's mind blowing like that. I still... Yes. It's mind blowing because we went full circle back to like all these peripherals.

[00:02:21] Like all these shit. Okay. We only had like two games. Everyone only had two games. They only had access to limited. That's why games were so much better back then maybe. It felt like you invested in the each title. Yeah, you had to like... Yeah.

[00:02:38] You said you didn't have your devilish critique. You didn't have no game or fatigue. No gamer fatigue, that's for sure. Okay. Cool. Okay, so our next question is number two. What are your top three favorite video games of all time? If you can...

[00:02:55] If you can swap them together, what would they be? So the first one I was either say for later, but I've got a copy of Heart Gold here. Oh yeah. I tend to look at this. Did you?

[00:03:07] I just put plastic on today, but this is been sitting on a shelf. Uncovered. I took it out and I was like getting the box that I've just been procrastinating because I was scared to damage something, but it was nice.

[00:03:20] So Heart Gold for those of you who are maybe just listening, Thrill House just held up a nice kind of like... I don't know what you call that. Not laminated, but it's like a plastic clear plastic case. Is that a hard location for food? It's the door.

[00:03:34] Three costumes. So with the Zomot of Cayman? Sorry. Is that what it came in? So I put the hard plastic on it, but yeah, this is the... The box itself. The full package. So to get a complete box is really hard these days.

[00:03:47] It has a polka walker with it, which is what he calls. But one of the best accounts. Yeah, yeah. Adameter. Apparently at the time of release, if not now, it was like the most actor it would've ever made some university-dial study.

[00:04:02] But you could load them in back then. Before smartphones were like a big thing. And take them with you. Nice. Wait a second. Wait a second. It's the most accurate dominant. Never read. And never see it in a study. Yeah, it's the time at least. Look it out.

[00:04:36] Is that a 4-block and white? Yeah, this would've been the Gen B4-block and white. This was Gen 4-block right here. Pokemon. Heart gold is the name of it, right? I played Black. That was the remake of gold which was the second generation.

[00:04:49] So in Gen 4 they made the second generation game. And that's what I considered the... So it came out North America 2010, March 14th. And then Pokemon Black came out North America in March 6th 2011. Nice. I did. It's weird in my brain to think they're that close, but yeah.

[00:05:09] So heart gold is a remake of gold. Yeah, so typically they do ever since I guess the Game Boy Advance. Like, red came out then gold and then they had Gen 3 which is Ruby Sapphire. And then they did the first remake which was red.

[00:05:26] And then they kind of do more or less with some exceptions. Maybe some exceptions. They'll release a new generation and then they'll go back and remake an older one. Oh yeah. And they kind of like stagger it that way. Beautiful. Okay.

[00:05:41] So Pokemon Heart Gold you would say is your favorite game of all time. And also remake of one of my favorites as a kid, right? So like, red and gold are kind of tied for me, but that remake just kind of puts it over the edge for me.

[00:05:53] Do you have two other games that you would put in your top three? Yeah, I mean, I put a Bolivian in there. Oh yeah. I just, I could play that the rest of my life.

[00:06:04] And there's something about that world where they had that dynamic AI that whether it works or not under percent all the time really does make everyone feel really unique in that world. They had like their schedules and stuff. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:06:20] Right like I don't know if I've seen it to that level in another game since the little kid following you around everywhere. Love that little guy. That door. That door again. Yeah.

[00:06:32] Don't even well speaking of that in Kingdom come, I just figured this out or I read it online. The reason why, like, and you don't want to believe me in Skyrim, you can skip time seem the same thing yet. Cypherpunk. In Kingdom come, it's not very fast.

[00:06:49] It's very fucking slow to change the time like the skip time. It's because the AI going on in the background has to complete their tasks. Oh, no. And no mod. There's no mod out there that can make the Kingdom come real go faster because the

[00:07:07] AI that's working in the back. They can't change that AI's schedule. Yeah. They're good. Okay. So Kingdom comes another game that has that I guess. I forgot about that. But some games will claim that it has it, but anyway. Okay.

[00:07:21] But not in depth enough to like get that. I'll have to get back into that one because I've been in the old man, especially I mean, this is another one. This is another one. Yeah.

[00:07:29] It's like we can be buy it for PC, but it probably way better on PC. Anyway, okay. So, believe in your number two. What about your number three? Three stuff. This one's kind of I feel like a couple. It's tough.

[00:07:49] It's I'm fighting between Halo, the original right now on the original Xbox or Black and White for PC. Oh, black and white. That was a great game. That's obscure, but yeah, we do remember that one. Yeah, those are two pretty up there.

[00:08:07] I feel like there's one more that might be a good fight for that spot. That's something my mind right now. I think especially all like when they came out, like in for the hard word, they came out, especially like Halo at the time was insane.

[00:08:22] On the original Xbox, like it still looks amazing. The art direction in the models like if you look at footage of it. Oh, we played it. Well, we've been crazy. We've got to finish that. I thought about that. Oh, I see.

[00:08:36] That's kind of finished their Halo play through. And the old Duke controller, like the huge, the huge Xbox one. I love that. Gone with the big, all right. So the thought right. Yeah. I don't even remember that. And if Xbox generation one controller, yeah,

[00:08:51] it's just a huge fucking thing. I feel like we're still feeling good in your hand. I've got one that remade it. Didn't they remake the Duke? Oh, they did. They re-released it. Yeah, so. Re-sign. I'm getting one. I'm getting one. Not recently, but within the last. Yeah, yeah.

[00:12:09] What would you say would your preference be right here on this spot if I had to ask you? I mean, it's got to go to Halo. This is just it combines so many. I remember seeing the demo in a store, I think, before I even got the Xbox.

[00:12:26] Yeah, and probably like a year before I was even able to persuade to be able to buy Halo. Right. I think it's a salt-only control room where you sort of in the beach.

[00:12:38] Like, there's a time I think I saw like a game that looked that like a live or dynamic or like the full scene going on. Even today, I think that scene on the original hardware, like holds up cinematicly where it's still super enjoyable. Okay. Right on.

[00:12:57] So yeah, I have the Game 3 cop out, like on the third, but they're all kind of eyeing for the end to that easily. I feel like that's a tough top three's hard. Yeah. All right. Now, I have a game for y'all. Are you ready for this?

[00:14:41] There's actually a game I had two in my cart two months ago and then I got distracted all the way. I came back there all gone. They had this gangar collaboration watch with Fossil. I think it's going for around 25 hundred on eBay now. It was like 300 retail. Right.

[00:15:01] I think he linked that to me, didn't you? Yeah. It was 300 retail and now it's what? About about 2500 to that earth up to 2000. Oh, what? Holy. What's that cool? It's just a big gangar on it. It really sweet.

[00:15:14] No, it's like a hit's round but I think it has like a picture of them. It was a cool execution because he's a ghost right? So it's like translucent purple, like the N64 purple and then like the eye in mouth kind of decal on the watch face.

[00:15:27] Oh man. Oh yeah. It's pretty good. It's like black steel. It's a nice watch. Yeah. That's not checking out quicker. See if I can find a switch over. Look. Yeah, throw up a nice little picture of that. Just sick. I'll switch over to. Oh yeah.

[00:15:45] It's a cool thing. There are Fossil collaborations. I think there's a few but it's pretty distinct. It's got like this face pretty bold and like a black steel. Oh yeah. Okay. Okay. That is cool. It's almost like a dive watch almost. Yeah. There was like 13. There's either 1300 or 13000.

[00:16:39] They got every market-cordered. All right. Well, I have to say we kind of neglect the Nintendo stuff. Maybe a bit on this podcast. We throw a lot of heat at the switch and at Nintendo. Speak for yourselves, man. Okay. I've thrown so much love at Animal Crossing.

[00:16:58] Harvest Moon, switch on this for a podcast. Oh, we look f*** off. I mean, we'd like animal crossing and harvest moon obviously, but I mean, Pokemon. We've, I've neglected Pokemon. I haven't played since. X, XY. No. I played Sun and Moon, but I didn't like it.

[00:17:21] And I didn't really finish it. So it was kind of like man. It's kind of sucks. So a lot of people said that. It's got pretty wild ending. I don't, I didn't get there. I don't know what hell happened. But there's a gap.

[00:17:33] So that's the last one I played. And then I think there was also a gap before that, whereas I played. I played, like, last one I played was probably like Game Boy Advance. Whatever the hell was on Game Boy Advance. The South. The South. Yeah.

[00:17:51] But I played Black and White after I played X because I wanted to get the Pokemon from the tree, trade them up to X. And they were before X and Y, right? So I did that. And then I got super by played it so much.

[00:18:06] I got so bored with it. I was like, I fucking, I'm going to just create my own Pokemon. And there was this website you could go to that. You could just put in everything you want on your Pokemon.

[00:18:14] And you just, you put in your DNS, the DNS server of the website on your, your 3DS. And you go to the online thing and it just downloads them. Front onto your own. Oh, fuck yes. So like, I want a shiny gangar with like Max Dats.

[00:18:30] Just a play. What? Criminal. They don't let them influence you. You stay there. I had already done everything. So I was like, just doing it for the hell of it. Why? You could, you know, the little flashaways you do some breeding or I was doing that too.

[00:18:48] I was already done the breeding. That's the thing. Like, I've done all of that already. I was like, I'm fucking bored of this. So I'm going to try it. I've lost it all avenues. Yeah. So we got some questions here for everyone.

[00:21:30] So I think I reset compulsively probably like eight times. Um, and was really paranoid about like the save function or like the, or like going to exit before turning off the giveaway, even though it would have done nothing. If I remember there was an exit in the menu,

[00:21:48] I just closed the menu, but as a kid, it was like, okay, this will stop it from hurting the game. Yeah, but we don't know that as a kid, right? Scary. Yeah. I remember, I remember what we did.

[00:21:58] We had, did we have more than one or one of our friends that I think maybe Squirt had one as well, a Game Boy. So what we did was we would just start a new file. Pick one, trade it to squirt. Reset, reset it.

[00:22:12] Pick the other one, trade it again and we did it to the double of everything. And then we started a real file and trade back. So we had all three starting. Yeah. That's how you had to do this. Because there was no breeding. So like literally the way.

[00:22:24] Cool. Yeah, I think it was, it was squirt at the end of the day. Oh, normal. And then every time I pick water like every new gen. Ah, see that was my other question. Okay. It's like stuck with you.

[00:23:08] I think black and white had a sequel. Black and white too. That was the only time I think I chose fire because it's the same as Starter. So. Right. Okay. I remember there was, There was a time we,

[00:23:20] Me and my buddies we'd bring our game voice to school with the link cables. And we'd be in the yard. And I thought Charm, I thought Charizard was like the best Pokemon. He's still like, one of my favorites. Probably. If not, my favorite Pokemon. But I was like,

[00:23:37] Oh, I have to have six Charizarders. So I was like, just treat me six Charmander's. And I'd have like, we'd all have like six Charmander's and whoever would have six squirtles and the other would have six Bulbasaur's. I'm like, yes. I have the ultimate team of six Charmander's.

[00:23:56] And then you all, you died on more. You died on more. Water Pokemon. Yeah. I'm really. Yeah. I'm really kidding though. To Charizard. And then whoever had the squirrel would just demolish me. Fuck. That's funny. It's scary. Yeah. Kids grasp on the rules.

[00:24:15] Like, I thought the cards was the higher level. I was like, so I would just like lay it down and think I won. And. Do you play any of the Pokemon trading card game? Hmm. Now have you played any of it? And actually.

[00:24:30] I got some the other night at the pre release, but I haven't played in a while. We played in University of Iowa, but one of our friends went to regionals. I think recently it was on the the YouTube playing the cards. We brought a tournament when we.

[00:24:45] No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Yeah, I think I know who that is right. Nice. Yeah, I started playing the Pokemon like the trading card game on the computer. It's cool. Like it's just all the rules. I just got codes for that.

[00:24:57] Yeah, I played it a while ago. I might do a little bit of that again. So you get you get cards from buying packs for that, right? Basically. All right, yes, you can earn like daily's to get new virtual packs as well.

[00:25:07] Yeah, it's all virtual packs, but if anything you buy physically, you get a code for to get that in the game. Yeah.

[00:25:15] So if you buy like a hit like a, like a, I don't know, you know those kids that come with like special cards and stuff like that. Yeah, pre-bought decks. Yeah, you get the same thing. Yeah, which is how it's just good for like starting out.

[00:25:31] You just go buy like a $20 pre-built and then you get the code for that online. So you get that same deck and you can use it in a pre-built deck mode. Right. Where everyone has to use pre-built decks.

[00:25:47] So they can't just, you know, steam roll you with the custom. Yeah, yeah. I think I probably have some decks for just here. You're done that for like 10 years ago. You're making me want to recover my account. So I think I've been doing that.

[00:26:02] So it's the Omega sets, maybe. Maybe before that, forget it. It's fun. I had a play. I enjoyed the game, John. The Pokemon card game is good. Yeah, oh yeah. So in depth.

[00:26:15] I remember in university we built a lot of competitive decks around like different gimmicks and stuff. So always like my boss always for alligator deck. I think was my top. Yeah, I did that. Yeah, I did that. Yeah, yeah. I did that. I did one.

[00:26:31] This is like deral you don't. A V-max. Okay. So he's like he had a special ability that can't be. He can't be touched by any. Other V-max or no any Pokemon with a special energy attached to it, which at the time. Everyone ran special energy in their decks.

[00:26:52] Everybody. So like I would upload or I would upgrade him or evolve him to V-max and nobody could even touch me because they had a special energy card on their on their Pokemon. I remember that card. I've just definitely see it. I got it. Get the answer.

[00:27:28] It's like, I find it difficult to get into card games because I don't like card games in reality. You might be more interested if you had like a food cocoa deck and you're a little more invested in your actual Pokemon. A little buddy. Turn your little buddy.

[00:27:48] We'll just follow around cards. Do you guys want to talk about how the like the card market, how that's evolved? Like any cards you had cool cards you had or anything like that. Do you guys have any cool cards you want to talk about anything like that?

[00:28:02] I don't have cool, cool cards like all of my cards are from pre-built like pre-built decks. So I do have a couple cool cards in those decks like, or I had a archa, archa, a Q-note deck that was pretty good.

[00:28:16] Like a team, different teams, magma, magma, and aqua. Plasma, galactic. Plasma, plasma. Plasma. Plasma. It was an articuno plasma. I remember that one. It was like plasma energy. It's pretty good. It's cool to show you. I think I remember the card. Yeah, that's all I really have.

[00:28:40] I never bought this box. It's like a box. Like a hobby box or anything like that. Do you have any cool cards when your kids that like are missing or no? Fuck, I don't remember. And I probably had all of ours. We probably had.

[01:24:12] So terror types are a nice feature. I feel like to work within like a hybrid kind of space because For my understanding of it anyway because I don't like having you know there's only six slots in your Poké party and like okay

[01:24:22] So if I want like electric fire water grass But there's so many more or there's so many right yeah, so now it's just like well fuck

[01:24:30] I don't want to have to keep thinking about what I'm about to fight and then have to like change my boxes and like swap and shit So it's a really nice addition to be able to have a Pokemon that can do

[01:24:43] two things so that you can you know you have almost double the capability in in the one party very cool I like that a lot. Yes, but Yeah You can already do that Pokemon of different types can use different moves the terror type is for defense only

[01:25:02] And stab a thing What First act stab that's like you get stabs when you're like type advantage matches your mood like and your your move type Oh, okay, okay, so if you have an attack that's like let's say your tear type is flying

[01:25:21] And you have a tack that's flying it'll do extra yeah exactly So like you said defensively it works for the types but then it also boosts attack of that type if you are that type So water movies by a water Pokemon will have a modifier that

[01:25:36] Water move used by a non-moder Pokemon will have I think it's 1.5 times if it's already yeah I haven't found myself needing to use it at all look I don't ever tear type I've been blasting through this game without tear typing Yeah, I'm forgetting I've tear typed

[01:25:55] I've never do it literally ever Whatever you tear a type though it asks you what movie want to use with tear type

[01:26:03] So you're want to you want to choose the move that is boosted probably yeah, and that's unless like Jonathan said it is purely for you could also use it probably for Purely defensive as well just to change your time love so okay You could either or or together

[01:35:14] Scatter bug So I had scatter bug first and I was trying to level him because I was like well I want to have a bug Pokemon ready just in case So I started leveling him and he was taking a little while

[01:35:24] But I was having to do that still I was still having to pull him out and level him a bit Because I wanted to get everyone to level 10 before getting to the grass gym at least and so it took a little while but he got there

[01:35:33] Well here's what you do Oh, and this is a new feature. Yes, you have to use the candies so you have to go out and fight the Terra Rate battles and get all those rewards that you get from those are the most important part

[01:35:48] Like I don't even care about the Pokemon. Well, I mean candies aren't new though candies have been around But these are XP candies, so I don't know how new those are not rare class generous here

[01:35:58] Yeah, you can use them in Pokemon X and why the head X P candies I use them all the time Not rare candies I don't remember that XP candies So there's like that should I just let's go. Maybe it's just let's go So I was just like

[01:36:15] Getting all those XP candies from those terabattle Pokemon the world and that's how you level You're Pokemon that's how you like if you have one that's level 12 well I got to give him 15 Small and big candies and he's got blasts up to like level 30. Do they learn

[01:36:32] Do Pokemon want to learn moves this as as often even if you use the candy yeah, yeah It's only a few of all for really sometimes that happens

[01:36:40] Okay, so basically the rare candy just ups you it'll boost you to the next level from where you are and the XP candies will give you the Like actual XP value

[01:39:01] You know that basket and you click on it and it's always like oh, there's nothing in it. There's nothing in it That's where the eggs appear Whenever you have Two Pokemon that are like for all looking or whatever now there's sandwiches and food that boosts course egg power

[01:39:17] And that's what egg power is for when you see that in the game And so okay that man do the do the This game is going to consume my goddamn life. Yeah, I tried it. I didn't have egg power It didn't really do anything but

[01:39:34] Apparently also if you keep them just the Pokemon you want to breed in your party and no one else Then it works better I would think so yeah, so they they I guess there's the traditional breeding systems god, then

[01:39:47] Yeah, there's no like no grocery or whatever. Yeah, I miss that 10-10 had that You go to the nursery and drop off your two 10s and yeah, yeah I used to do that like I did that so much in in X Y Coley

[01:42:41] Special event Pokemon from it. I think they've done it so they can kind of catch up more like Manage that or like there's new forms of things So It's like they're playing this like inception this Pokemon so if I get this Pokemon thing

[01:42:56] It's home. Yeah, is it connected with my 3DS? Yeah, so what it does is there was an app for 3DS called Pokemon Bank and they're actually closing down the 3DS servers next year. So if you don't have it updated now

[01:43:16] But if you have that app you can transfer from if you have Game Boy Advance and you have a DS You can put the Game Boy Advance cartridge in the DS and transfer them to the Gen4

[01:43:28] Pokemon DS games and then you can transfer those to black and white and then you can transfer those from black and white Through the Pokemon bank 3DS That's what I do. Yeah, I transfer my black and white ones To my X and white game

[01:43:47] Okay, so they're all in my bank right now So if you have them in there you can download. Yeah, so update Pokemon bank And then if you download Pokemon home on your phone and your switch

[01:44:00] I forget the exact process, but it will pull them from bank onto your switch and phone And then you'll have them for all these games. So I just let the paper the subscription for like a month to do it or whatever Well, I think it goes by year

[01:44:14] It's not that much and the thing is I think if your subscription runs out It's not like they they don't like purge your account. It's just you can't Access it for that time. So it's still like a very safe way to save them

[01:44:26] So I've doing events from like 10 years ago That I remember going in getting or like 11 years ago now that are like on my phone like safely stored and it always tells you like where you caught it Like the dates yeah

[01:44:39] So so they have to update that for this game and then you'll be able to download them into this game. Yeah, so anything any Pokemon that So I think sort and she'll forward

[01:44:50] They stop doing every single Pokemon in every game. There's like a more limited decks, but it's typically around still half of what exists So if the Pokemon can be caught in that game or Some like they just have that it can be transferred

[01:45:04] If it exists in that game you can transfer it up so even if it came from your Game Boy Advance cartridge Like the Ruby Sapphire you could transfer it up to your phone and then to this game model for it Yeah

[01:45:19] All right, well anything else you want to talk about gameplay anything you hate about the gameplay I didn't like much. I don't think that much like I don't want to spoil it for you guys

[01:45:31] We haven't got to where I am the only thing I was gonna say about the gameplay. It's like it's kind of a bit too easy Maybe like it's easy to do the gym scale like the levels change
