[00:00:00] Welcome back Superstars! My name is Aaron. I'm the world champion of bog snorkeling
[00:00:06] and this is the SuperPod Saga!
[00:00:20] Thanks again for joining us. I'm your host Aaron and for any of your first time
[00:00:24] listeners this is the podcast where each week I invite some awesome guests to talk with me about
[00:00:30] a different video game topic and when we're done discussing what we'll dress on our Sunday best
[00:00:36] and we'll head on down to Red Lobster to celebrate the Lord's Day Lobster Fest.
[00:00:42] Shatterbiscuits!
[00:00:46] Get the right people for snacks!
[00:00:48] Thanks for joining me for some delicious Red Lobster. I've got both Andrew and Keith
[00:00:56] of Game Pass Grab Bag. How are you dudes?
[00:00:59] Thank you so much for having us.
[00:01:01] Yeah thank you, thank you. Doing well. Glad to be here.
[00:01:04] Yeah glad to have you guys on. What's up for the listeners? Tell them all about your yourselves,
[00:01:10] your show and games you like or anything else you'd like to share with them.
[00:01:15] I guess I'll take this away.
[00:01:16] You get it, you do the intro every week Andrew this is on you.
[00:01:21] Hi yeah so me and Keith we are two of the three members of Game Pass Grab Bag. We're a weekly
[00:01:26] podcast we come out every Wednesday. Anywhere you get your podcasts even on YouTube we have
[00:01:31] our audio there but we are essentially a Game Pass podcast. You know we pick a game at random
[00:01:38] sometimes it's listener requests sometimes what we're feeling and we basically do a deep dive
[00:01:43] I'm explaining over a deep dive of how the game is you know we break it down of is this a
[00:01:48] gamer pass at the beginning of an episode just a quick breakdown of you know was this worth your time
[00:01:52] should you check this game out and then obviously we break down everything of the story,
[00:01:56] gameplay, you know graphics, audio, achievements. We go through all that stuff but me I am a
[00:02:02] hardcore gamer Keith here is a moderate gamer who can't quite figure it out and then we're
[00:02:06] joined by our third co-host which is my wife who is the noob. Even though we've been doing
[00:02:11] this for five years people always ask you know she's still a noob and 100% she is still a noob.
[00:02:15] And if you listen to her episode she's still just doesn't she doesn't care for video games but
[00:02:21] she loves doing the podcast and she does a really good job with it she always does her homework.
[00:02:25] Nice. You know I still constantly have to keep teaching her things but you know we all obviously
[00:02:31] the whole purpose of our podcast is we're three very different perspectives for me like I love
[00:02:36] you know management games, I love RPGs, I love a game with a really good story.
[00:02:41] Keith here as you can probably figure out what this topic loves really simple
[00:02:46] roguelike games. I guess you can explain Keith. Yeah I mean I was never all the
[00:02:53] series I don't dive deep into the news I'm not on top of everything I just play what I play.
[00:02:59] What was it your brother said it best to me last night I could I could play a triple A you know
[00:03:08] absolute masterpiece of a video game and it's all fine and well I appreciate it but you give me a
[00:03:14] simple quick 30 minutes of bullet hell and fast paced fun and that's all I need. I really
[00:03:23] don't I'm a very simple gamer but I will play anything I've been playing games since I was
[00:03:28] I don't know goodness as long as I can remember and I've been on this world a long time so yeah I
[00:03:34] I'm definitely a long-time gamer but I just am not good at it still. That's all right man yeah I
[00:03:41] enjoyed me a good roguelike too. Back when Tommy was on this show he would talk about like the
[00:03:48] deep stories behind games and like character arcs and stuff like that and I'd just be like oh
[00:03:54] yeah but have you played enter the gungeon for like 75 hours? Yeah I'm a huge fan of games that
[00:04:03] you can just pick up and play at any time and spend like a couple hours on and I do I do love a good
[00:04:09] good like story-based game like I used to be really into jrpg's but kind of falling off of those
[00:04:16] sadly. I know when you get older it's just harder to find the time. It is man and sometimes
[00:04:22] sometimes I just want to kick ass. I don't want to sit through a whole bunch of dialogue man.
[00:04:27] I don't know what's wrong with me anymore and that's that's why roguelikes have gotten so popular.
[00:04:32] Yeah that's exactly why yeah roguelikes you just hop right the hell in and you're ready to go
[00:04:38] and uh yeah that's what our topic is today we're talking all about roguelikes.
[00:04:42] I apologize to your listeners that you guys have already done this but yeah when you were
[00:04:46] like ah you know the topic where you visited it and it's like well me Keith no roguelikes we've
[00:04:49] been playing a lot of them. Yeah if we haven't done an episode on it I've probably at least touched it
[00:04:56] at least when it's on game pass especially a free one I'm pretty much gonna play it every single time
[00:05:03] so I have a deep collection of them whether they're all good or not and that's that's another
[00:05:09] question. They're all good man. Every week we're like hi Keith we're playing this you know
[00:05:16] big game and then I always see Keith he finds a roguelike on game pass and he's playing that so it's
[00:05:20] like all right I guess we're switching the game to that. At this point though I think I think we've
[00:05:25] touched just about every roguelike that it was ever graced game pass. Yeah there's been a good
[00:05:30] a good bunch that have been on there so far well we'll get into some of those good ones here in
[00:05:34] a little bit but if any of you listeners want to listen to the either I guess like the part one
[00:05:39] or like the original version of this episode uh yeah back in February of 2023 wow that was
[00:05:48] almost a year ago that's insane it feels like I just did that yesterday it's wild. I mean that's
[00:05:53] how I feel when I was going through our back catalog because it's like man what was the
[00:05:57] roguelike we played and I'm just like god we did that in 2022 like uh geez like that feels
[00:06:02] like it was yesterday. That does man that's so insane.
[00:06:15] Let's start off with the discord Q&A for this segment of the show I just asked discord server
[00:06:22] a question related to the topic and we'll hear what they have to say and then we'll get to our
[00:06:26] picks but uh first one uh distorted rules he says binding of Isaac and holy shit yeah that's a good
[00:06:34] one I uh I know distorted rules personally he's a really good friend of mine and yeah he he has put
[00:06:40] I want to say fucking like 500 hours into binding of Isaac. That makes me feel so much better about
[00:06:46] my rotated ours like we'll get to that at some point so you know it's funny because we were
[00:06:54] we're open to something I'm like I'm the biggest roguelike guy of them all it's what I do it's what
[00:06:57] I love I have never played binding of Isaac and every time I've talked to somebody who's even knows
[00:07:03] what a roguelike is so like oh yeah binding of Isaac I'm like you need to nope it's on everything
[00:07:09] it's on my list I I've gotta play it you do man admittedly maybe I'm this is where I'm not like
[00:07:17] the true gamer that I say that I am and every aspect I fail right oh it's okay no you're getting
[00:07:22] fail there's um there's a lot that I haven't played I think um I haven't played a lot of people really
[00:07:29] love FTL but I've never played it because it just seems like a lot like uh that that's actually
[00:07:35] kind of be one of the games I'm gonna mention yeah that one you mentioned it last episode
[00:07:41] I was just like how have you guys not touched FTL oh man uh next up is uh is Ho-Champ he says
[00:07:49] slay the spire obvious don't need to get into why this jump started my love of card game roguelikes
[00:07:55] but a game that came out a few months ago was against the storm and I really enjoy how each
[00:07:59] little city settlement feels like a new experience yeah and you can't try and force the same
[00:08:04] strategy as a previous time it definitely rewards flexibility which I like that's a cool game
[00:08:10] that's a game past BC was that a really play at some point because yeah I played that it's I think
[00:08:16] it's still a preview but it's it's really cool because it's like part city builder management
[00:08:21] and roguelike so it's a really interesting quest yeah it's really awesome I have to go back
[00:08:27] to that because my computer was actually able to run it and I play maybe 45 minutes to an hour of
[00:08:33] it but yet now that you say that I'm gonna have to go back to that that's uh that was a good
[00:08:37] one hell yeah uh internet tray he's oh he says rogue legacy is the first one that really hooked me
[00:08:45] and got me to eventually go backwards to Igarashi's Castlevania's overtime as well as a stone cold
[00:08:50] classic bloodstained hell yeah I guess I could see resemblance between rogue legacy in some uh
[00:08:58] some ega veinia's yeah legacy so fucking good that has a very good one that was
[00:09:03] that's one of my early rogue likes to say man I picked that up on on xbox one I think back in
[00:09:12] back in the day for like I think it was on sale for three dollars yeah and yeah that was such
[00:09:17] that was such a good such a good buy for three bucks dude I put so many hours into that game I
[00:09:22] still haven't I think I've only ever beaten two of the boss like two of the five bosses or
[00:09:27] something though yeah it's pretty tough but that's that's a really good one it's it's really
[00:09:32] kind of simple but yeah if you are into the style of like the 2d metroid games metroidvania style
[00:09:37] yeah like those are kind of it that's really fucking awesome uh I'm in a butcher the name
[00:09:44] one bow poxort he says he says rogue shearing the wanderer two in Bellatru hell yeah I have
[00:09:55] okay so I guess I'm not a real gamer because I've never played rogue but I guess that was from
[00:09:58] like what the 80s or something um I think that was the thing that started the genre yeah
[00:10:06] yeah and then which one is sharing the wanderer two so yeah I haven't heard of that one either
[00:10:12] I don't think that's oh let's say I was a rogue legacy oh that was uh the n64 one okay man
[00:10:22] and then yeah Bellatru good good stuff we'll get to that later I'm sure yeah uh judge bread he says uh
[00:10:32] plate up has consumed my wife and brother-in-law also want to give a shout out to space lines
[00:10:37] from the far out for somehow turning a space airline manager into a roguelike yeah Andrews
[00:10:44] Andrew I was trying to tell me like well it's not really a roguelike and it might not be fully
[00:10:48] in some ways but I I don't think we gave her enough shot at least when we tried playing it
[00:10:55] the one time we did yeah but it was a lot of fun uh it played up I was actually gonna put on my list
[00:11:00] too that's currently on game pass you it's it's overcooked meets roguelike god yeah so it's kind
[00:11:07] of interesting combination on that right say they're gonna keep and you can play multiplayer
[00:11:11] on it right yep yeah it's four player nice yeah it was oh my god that was another one after
[00:11:16] you mentioned I played I think probably the first four or five levels or so or yeah like four or five
[00:11:22] runs I guess I should say it's definitely not a snappy as overcooked like overcooked like yeah the
[00:11:28] controls aren't as like precise as they are compared to overcooked but it's a nice combination no and
[00:11:34] even in the roguelike kind of overall genre it doesn't have your your traditional like here
[00:11:42] you're not fighting but it has all of the elements of the procedural generation and stuff so I
[00:11:48] I agree that it's in the genre I wouldn't argue that uh but it tends to be like slower paced in a way
[00:11:54] because it's overcooked style game but it is a lot of fun and and I would definitely go back to
[00:11:58] it I think definitely more as a multiplayer than single player though yeah oh yeah I need to play
[00:12:03] that one that's been on my steam wish list for a really long time um next one the cathousias
[00:12:10] Jeff I've only played ones and that was Hades and FTL both are amazing games one more than the other
[00:12:16] Aaron should know which I will say I'm interested in have a nice death yep uh cathousias Jeff is a
[00:12:22] really big fan of Hades which understandable Hades Hades is so good because I I must like I said
[00:12:29] I'm a sucker for a story and it's very rare to get a roguelike with a really good story
[00:12:32] and Hades actually has a really good story I mean now that's off game pass I think it's
[00:12:37] is it Netflix gaming that offers it yeah Netflix gaming has it I should take advantage of that and
[00:12:43] absolutely just be playing Hades on my phone dude and Netflix games also has a shovel night pocket
[00:12:49] dungeon and into the breach which are both on my fucking list dang yeah those are both
[00:12:55] some decent decent list of games yeah dude super good ready to go Netflix um no mad
[00:13:03] retro wild lands he says rogue legacy baby it's two for rogue legacy but no one said rogue legacy too yet
[00:13:12] oh yes isn't that only on like ps5 and pc though possibly it's like yeah I don't know if it's on
[00:13:20] xbox but I know it came out like a year ago but that's the thing I actually haven't heard many people
[00:13:23] talk about rogue legacy too I'm curious if it just isn't as good as the first or the first just
[00:13:28] like it's just good enough that you might as well stick with the first one oh yeah it is on
[00:13:32] everything I remember when it came out a lot of people like they really loved it like those that did
[00:13:38] play it really loved it um saying that it it definitely went above and beyond what the first
[00:13:44] one put down but yeah ever since it did come out like I haven't heard anybody say a goddamn thing about
[00:13:50] it I don't think it was on anybody's like game of the year list yeah 2020 holy shit yeah I bought
[00:13:57] the first one and I played you know a couple hours it's hard from from what I recall um it's in it didn't
[00:14:05] draw me in as much as I wanted it to it it's got some really neat elements to it like the whole
[00:14:10] you know descendants aspect of it but yeah I got too far into it oh man I want to read you guys this
[00:14:17] uh is google review for uh rogue legacy to Jeff Lucy his review says if you want to get yelled at
[00:14:26] by your girlfriend for not paying attention to work rep remanded at work for being late or
[00:14:30] want to simply make hours go by and what seems like minutes then you found just the thing this game is
[00:14:35] highly addictive and you will love every second of it and there's a lot more basically saying the same
[00:14:39] thing but uh okay I guess I guess rogue legacy two is still a good game yeah it's just I just thought
[00:14:47] maybe it's just because it was also like no marketing at all like I never heard I didn't
[00:14:50] know there was a sequel in development and then like yeah one day on Steve it's like rogu's
[00:14:55] see two zone is like oh okay I guess it's the second one now thanks for that uh Jenny says I really
[00:15:03] enjoyed across the obelisk and I have never heard of this one before so I'm a bastard like what
[00:15:09] what's that like and she says it's a co-op deck builder game it's fun soloing with a partner
[00:15:15] it basically it looked like a mix of darkest dungeon and sleigh the spire and it's
[00:15:21] yeah sounds pretty cool darkest dungeon is another really hard one it's very hard yeah
[00:15:27] yeah that one I uh I haven't gotten very far in because I tend to just get really really mad at it
[00:15:33] just stop playing and uninstall it for a little while jake from gamecore p says against the storm
[00:15:39] the one for against the storm it's a base building roguelike that has you adapt to random
[00:15:43] environments juggle settlement needs and solve random crisis as they unfold all while racing
[00:15:48] against the growing impatience of your queen hell yeah whatever that next one adam revival and extinction
[00:15:56] he says I've actually had a really fun time with bro tato recently he was a good balance
[00:16:02] oh that's great it's a good balance of movement around the map a couple of weapon availability
[00:16:08] and proficiency the enemies are a bit on the generic side but you have 20 levels to equip
[00:16:12] yourself with up to four different weapons and a bunch of utility items and there's a heap of
[00:16:17] different characters each with their own advantages and disadvantages so it adds a heap of variety to
[00:16:21] the game we just had a bro tato episode we just released today uh Keith Keith is gonna talk plenty
[00:16:28] about that game I do love it I do love it but I like that's the one I've been meaning to play
[00:16:37] like it came out on game pass around the time when I was when I was desperately trying to beat
[00:16:42] persona three reload but uh I've given up on persona three persona I don't know what it's about
[00:16:49] persona I just can't get into them but I'm sure I'll end up in a bro tato though just do you watch
[00:16:54] it's it's got hooks man it does get you I should say it's got roots roots oh boy it's good one
[00:17:04] Keith st lemon he says children of morta the pixelation really makes this one shine it has
[00:17:11] a fun leveling up system that pertains to one or all family members a great story who's only the
[00:17:16] narrator delivering the story very relaxing yeah I forgot about children morta we did that one too
[00:17:21] I actually I had children of morta on my list as a uh if I need to mention yeah like if I if I
[00:17:29] was falling short on numbers here I had it listed because I was thinking back on it like it was
[00:17:35] a long time ago and I want to say it was one of the earlier roguelikes that we played and and so in
[00:17:41] some ways I would say it probably was an attributing game that built my love of roguelikes because I
[00:17:48] didn't I didn't I didn't play him as much before uh the podcast but I've I've yeah over the years
[00:17:54] that's where my love has really come through and they've added a lot of shit to that game too
[00:17:59] like they've added a ton of different weapons and they had that I think $10 expansion with
[00:18:04] it too or something I was looking at it the other day actually I was because I had some some credits
[00:18:10] to spend on the xbox store the microsoft store and uh yeah I was I was thinking about that and I ended
[00:18:16] up I think it was Bellatra that I ended up going with instead nice yeah let's see probably better pick
[00:18:23] yeah he also says return all this drug like is very fun very different and very dark
[00:18:29] graphics are amazing the soundtrack is phenomenal and the story is really well done when you die
[00:18:34] you have to restart but you get checkpoints to help you advance without doing the sections over and over
[00:18:38] and over again enter the gungeon very silly very cool roguelikes so many guns relics and synergies
[00:18:45] you can get a gun that shoots peas or sort the shoots beams like links master sword
[00:18:49] these fun bosses in secret rooms you can do if you collect enough resources each character has
[00:18:53] two stories so replayability is really high great soundtrack fun dungeon layouts and the
[00:18:56] enemies are well designed there's another one I have called rad oh man it's top down post
[00:19:00] apocalypse your grog like replay as kids who got cool who got cool melee weapons and gained
[00:19:06] new abilities by taking radiation poisoning I didn't make it too far on this one but its art
[00:19:11] is really cool when you get multiple characters to play as to change up your style and that's
[00:19:15] the last one thank you everybody yeah I liked enter the gungeon a lot I know the last episode
[00:19:22] you uh I think you guys didn't care for it as much but I was like I did the gun just
[00:19:26] actually a ton of fun I think I'd like to revisit enter the gungeon because I don't remember loving
[00:19:32] it as much as I feel like I would have but at the same time I don't know you know what you think
[00:19:41] is that because I think me and Liz loved it and it's a good co-op game yeah and I don't
[00:19:45] and I don't recall hating it I just there's something about I don't know I the twin stick
[00:19:52] aspect of it that I don't care for I'm just really bad at it and that could also be a large
[00:19:59] contributing factor from honest I've gotten I've had that game on my switch since I think like
[00:20:11] I want to say 2000 2018 maybe whenever it whenever it came out on switch was the day
[00:20:18] that I bought it basically I've had it since it came out on switch and I've never ever
[00:20:23] ever completed a run because I always get really really far and then I fucking die to a boss or
[00:20:29] something stupid yeah the bosses are tough it's fun though it's just really really cool like I like
[00:20:35] the weapons like the characters this is just brutal yeah a lot of a lot of rogue likes
[00:20:43] like that was the ones I was like kind of putting on my lesser like how do I want to
[00:20:45] mention it because I hate how difficult this one is but that's maybe what some people want
[00:20:51] some people love that brutal hard rogue like
[00:21:01] you know what first one first one we're gonna start with I'm gonna blast
[00:21:15] run out of the gate with wild frost have you guys played wild frost no I remember you guys talked
[00:21:20] about this I think this was uh I listened to this episode I think was your uh like end of year
[00:21:24] like awards yeah I mentioned it that it was like your favorite game and I looked it up I really
[00:21:28] wanted to pick it up because I it looked awesome it's fun man it's got such a cool little art style
[00:21:34] to it reminds me of like a regular show and adventure time all those kinds of games of that
[00:21:39] goofy art style um it's uh it's a little bit like a deck builder means like a strategy game
[00:21:47] in a way because like yeah you build your deck of cards you know you've got your your leader
[00:21:51] card um companion cards and then your cards for like your attacks and like relics and stuff
[00:21:56] that you put on the field that give you passive abilities and stuff and you can equip cards with
[00:22:01] different relics like um one that just increases attack one that uh gives them what's called frenzy
[00:22:08] which gives you multiple attacks or gives that card multiple attacks but then there's there's
[00:22:13] different there's different try or there's only three tribes in the game but that kind of adds
[00:22:19] a lot of replayability to it because like the three different tribes have different
[00:22:23] cards that you can add to their deck like there's the snow folk I think is what they're called
[00:22:28] and they can inflict uh snow which like freezes an enemy or whatever um what else is there
[00:22:36] spice which is like a temporary attack boost and a bunch of other stuff
[00:22:41] there's the shade mancers who can summon these little ghost dudes and they're just like
[00:22:46] temporary allies that's really cool can you only pick one faction or do you have like multiple
[00:22:51] and they have like synergy you when you start to run you can only pick um you can pick one tribe
[00:22:58] and then you can pick like like three leaders out of that tribe to be your leader and then
[00:23:03] yeah whichever whichever tribe you pick you'll be kind of you'll get like generic cards as well
[00:23:08] as cards tied to that tribe as well as stores and stuff and then yeah you'll go along on this
[00:23:14] map and kind of like say the spire there will be like um like a store an enemy encounter well no so it'll
[00:23:22] be like enemy encounter then you can do like three like beneficial things like store which is where
[00:23:29] you can buy new cards and everything or like uh get a new companion or uh copy a card or like
[00:23:37] destroy a card or something like that and then you fight big mean like nasty bosses like the game is
[00:23:45] pretty goddamn difficult and i didn't even got into the combat yet so you it's like uh what two four
[00:23:51] six eight it's a two by twelve grid so there's like three three columns of two on your side
[00:23:58] and three columns of two on the enemy side and you put like your leader down first and then
[00:24:04] your allies and then um you play a card to attack enemies or you play uh that's all right
[00:24:12] this makes sense did you i oh sorry i i wanted to ask did you did you ever play so you mentioned it
[00:24:18] last time but did you ever play monster train yeah okay because that's what it kind of
[00:24:22] sounds very similar like how this synergy works with that that's what i was thinking
[00:24:26] yeah the different factions and even just even almost the the rotation they get like
[00:24:31] varies slightly i guess but yeah like the like fight and then you kind of have your your little
[00:24:37] events i guess where you would buff and then go back into battle yeah i want to get this game exactly
[00:24:43] it really sounds fun like that's a style like because where because where it varies is the actual
[00:24:49] battle in the gameplay itself and then that's where it matters the most right like
[00:24:52] because a monster train you have those different levels but you don't it sounds like this is all
[00:24:57] like just i don't know one playing field and you and you play back and forth that way so that's
[00:25:02] that sounds cool and i could be into that yeah and it's there there's a lot to take in at first
[00:25:07] because like rather than um say like uh like a like a turn well i guess it is turn based
[00:25:14] kind of like each each uh fuck i guess well each each like enemy or like character on your side
[00:25:24] they'll have a timer on the bottom of their card and when the timer goes to zero they'll attack
[00:25:29] or some don't attack they'll heal or show like that so like it kind of i guess maybe it maybe
[00:25:36] it's turn based i guess that would be considered turn based um yeah it's it's brutal it's but
[00:25:43] it's fun and there's a lot of shit to unlock too there's there's a lot of cool stuff you can
[00:25:47] unlock gosh yeah this game looks awesome this this this sounds right on my alley because like yeah when
[00:25:53] you first describe it i'm like yeah this kind of sounds like monster train yeah i was like at the end
[00:25:57] of the year uh your last time you did broke likes and you guys mentioned monster train it's like that
[00:26:00] game is i loved monster train that was such a good deck build there very loud very loud oh yeah
[00:26:07] i'm being very loud too oh boy yeah what uh which one do you guys want to go next i mean i just
[00:26:15] i don't this isn't actually on my list but it it popped up in my in my games list when i was going
[00:26:21] through and i just have to make sure that people are aware that this game exists there's a game called
[00:26:25] boyfriend dungeon oh i know of that that was on game pass was it i did it was and that's why i played
[00:26:32] it and i didn't play mentally it is not like even the combat is bad it's a top down it's really
[00:26:38] more of a dating sim than anything and it's clunky start off strong gear key like it's not
[00:26:45] good but uh it's there i'm more just i had to just make sure that people are aware that this game
[00:26:51] exists they like within the first week that it got released they had to either tone it back or
[00:26:57] immediately apologize because there was just a lot of stuff in there they're like oh yeah that's
[00:27:01] really cringy but really though i'm gonna i'm gonna start off with potato hell yeah
[00:27:10] yeah so andrew's gonna laugh at me still because i still haven't beat it there's
[00:27:16] before this podcast you were cursing about it like you guys talked a lot about vampire
[00:27:21] survivors a lot on the last one fantastic and i think immediately off the gate
[00:27:27] bro potato gets a lot of comparison to vampire for vampire survivors and for fair reasons it's
[00:27:33] a top-down auto shooter you have six weapons etc etc but it varies so much and one of the biggest
[00:27:41] ways is you have 40 characters something like that andrew 44 and they are so immensely varied
[00:27:51] because one of the biggest things that i like about it is that while you have these immense
[00:27:55] characters it really depends on your six weapons that you have because you can just
[00:28:00] you know have a synthesis you can match them all up they're they're all a variety and there's a lot
[00:28:05] of different stats you can build throughout the game it's all and it's all inter-run there's nothing
[00:28:10] really out you just unlock new pools outside of your runs and yeah the the characters vary so
[00:28:17] much but you have because you have ones that just actually don't carry weapons there's ones
[00:28:21] that only shoot when you're standing still there's ones that carry 12 weapons or one weapon and so
[00:28:28] they just make all these variations and it makes every different character feel so different and
[00:28:33] refreshing that at my 180 hours and not 100 completion um i i still mostly have a pretty fun
[00:28:44] time playing it and i would have a much more fun time if i was playing the variation of characters
[00:28:49] not the one stupid character that i can't beat it with
[00:28:51] stupid pass but oh yeah i put like a day and a half of play time at f-thousand the game and
[00:28:59] i just love holding over keys head what was it 700 hours into binding wise like i have no shame i
[00:29:06] didn't i didn't to begin with it so i'm not shaming anyone either for the record i just
[00:29:12] let's find that you said 180 in a potato yeah it's it's over seven days which i think that's
[00:29:18] where the math lies out somewhere around 180 hours i mean according to xbox it was 15 days
[00:29:24] in seven hours i think you said oh god damn i think so i thought it was only 17 days i think
[00:29:31] oh i think you're adding time oh no sorry sorry sorry you're right seven days 15 hours they say
[00:29:35] that's a huge variance but i i'm pretty sure i'm right on this oh man i love it though it's
[00:29:43] bro teardrop is so good though i second that one too i had a lot of fun with that
[00:29:48] well because it's addictive one of the things that it does so well too is that well though the weapon
[00:29:54] builds are really a lot of fun it has it has items or weapons and then it has items and you can build
[00:30:01] an infinite amount of items so it's not a game that says like vampire survivors for example
[00:30:07] you have your six small items that you can build and they can either synthesize or not with your
[00:30:13] weapons or how does it eight items actually i don't remember something something along those lines
[00:30:19] but you're not limited on bro teardrop you can have all of the items and god and the items
[00:30:25] will you know it'll give you eight percent dodge but minus one armor or it'll give you a full
[00:30:31] on bonus it'll start giving you damage every second there's like just a variety of things
[00:30:35] that they'll do to you but you can build all of them and then once you start to get to a certain
[00:30:40] point i guess good luck because you probably don't remember what you have at that point
[00:30:45] hell yeah what was your first one Andrew so i'm gonna go with i know it's an older game
[00:30:51] you kind of mentioned a little bit but i'm gonna at least say FTL so you mentioned obviously
[00:30:55] the studio they created into the breach into the breach is a good one but FTL this was
[00:31:00] the game that got me to roguelikes i absolutely love FTL because it is a spaceship management game
[00:31:06] it's a bit of a choose your own adventure game it has a pretty decent story and just how the runs are
[00:31:12] done you know and they vary so much so you're obviously managing a ship you know so you can
[00:31:17] do you can pick your ship there's pre-built ships of like different things you know this one
[00:31:22] has more ballistic weapons as well as more energy weapons this one has drones so there's
[00:31:26] just a ton of different types of ships and then your crew varies depending on the alien species
[00:31:31] you have some aliens that are really good at repairing but they may suck at battle you have
[00:31:35] some that are good at piloting some that are good at melee combat it is such a fun fun game
[00:31:40] it's it it was like i said the first one that got me to roguelikes i highly recommend it on
[00:31:45] pc because you're going to be pausing a lot because you know a missile just did a big old
[00:31:50] breach in your ship and now you're losing oxygen and you're trying to scramble some people over
[00:31:54] there to fix it well you know you're trying to dodge lasers it's it's simple but also very complicated
[00:32:00] it's just very kind of management of like trying to move your crew around who's working at what
[00:32:05] substation you know are you going to send a boarding party over if you can kill the crew
[00:32:09] of the other ship you get more rewards you know it's in the it's just there's tons of different
[00:32:14] ships you can unlock i just i love ftl it's on um you can get on pc but also it's on tablets
[00:32:21] it's unfortunately not a mobile phone which kind of makes sense because i feel like it would just be
[00:32:25] too hard to click each substation on the phone but uh if you have a tablet it's on there i highly
[00:32:31] recommend ftl i put so many hours in that game but another thing that i really love about roguelikes
[00:32:38] is how much bang for your buck you get with these goddamn games like bro tato you said you put
[00:32:45] it like 180 hours into it it's only like fucking four bucks uh ftl is only like 10 bucks that's
[00:32:51] nuts i think it's and it's well worth it they've had a ton of free updates on it it has so much content now
[00:32:57] god damn i maybe i do need to try ftl maybe maybe i should just bite the bowl and try it
[00:33:02] um i'm sure it'll be on sale again sometime for for pretty darn cheap oh yeah well i think so much
[00:33:07] of them and kind of like what you were saying they end up in the indy category to a certain
[00:33:12] degree that they end up being sort of cheap and and accessibility to him is another thing like
[00:33:17] andrew was saying yeah it's it's limited on phones but you can play it on tablet most games even like
[00:33:23] bro tato vampire survivor they're they're all available on literally every device you could
[00:33:30] potentially play a game on you know phone tablet computer console it's everything's got it so
[00:33:39] they're just they're they're accessible on every level and and i think that's another just
[00:33:44] really cool feature about it myself oh yeah just like this just like my next pick that i'll never ever
[00:33:50] stop uh i'll never stop talking about dicey dungeons it's on every goddamn console it's on phones and
[00:33:57] it plays so well on phones dude like it plays so smoothly on phones you just drag and drop it
[00:34:03] in diceship i've wanted to check this one out this one's on game pass too is it is it still
[00:34:08] i know it's been on there for a really long time it is yeah i actually after listening to your
[00:34:13] episode i again it wasn't one i dove far into but i had played and i was like i'm gonna pick that up
[00:34:20] again probably played another you know probably 45 minutes like another one run but it is a lot of fun
[00:34:27] yeah it's really really cool man like first off the art style is really awesome it's just got
[00:34:33] like that like papery like handmade hand drawn look the music is fucking banging like it's
[00:34:40] i love the soundtrack it's so good dude like the little world maps that you come across like the
[00:34:46] the ice world map in particular that one is just so chill and serene the battle themes are all really
[00:34:52] good but um yeah so there's i think six different characters you can play as and they all play
[00:35:00] differently so there's like the warrior the thief the robot the witch and the jester
[00:35:08] and i feel like i'm forgetting one the machinist or something like that yeah there's different characters
[00:35:13] they all play differently like the um the what you call the the thief well i guess and depending on
[00:35:20] what chapter or like what yeah what what chapter you're playing on for each character they'll kind
[00:35:26] of behave differently too so like at first the the warrior is just like the super basic one
[00:35:31] you know he uh his his main ability is that you can just reroll a die once per turn
[00:35:37] but then uh he gets he gets fucking insane and later in later chapters oh man i forget what the
[00:35:45] fucking stuff was the witch is my favorite though hers her shit is just so fucking wacky instead of
[00:35:50] just like picking cards from different chests or like buying different cards which the cards
[00:35:56] are your like your attacks so it'll be like a broadsword or spatula or something like that
[00:36:03] or like a shield like a rusty shield but the witch is different like she has like a spell book
[00:36:08] and you can find spells in chests and uh you can add them to your spell book and then
[00:36:14] i always love magic casters in any class in any game i was intimidated from playing the
[00:36:20] witch because the way it lays them out is that like each one had a difficulty rating to him
[00:36:25] and the witch i think was i think she was the rated as like a five star so yeah i was like i don't
[00:36:32] i don't know if i want to jump all the way that far but that sounds like a lot of fun
[00:36:36] so do you want to take that it's so good and the uh there's also so i think each character has
[00:36:46] seven chapters i think i think seven chapters five or seven i think um but then there's this like
[00:36:54] halloween dlc pack that comes with the game fo free and it adds a bunch of extra um i think you
[00:37:02] only get to play as like three characters but they they play a lot differently in that too
[00:37:06] and uh the enemies have different like silly cute uh halloween costumes on and shit um i like
[00:37:14] the character designs in general just like the enemies they are all like fun like i don't know
[00:37:19] some of them are just kind of like ogres or whatever but there was one of my thought it was like a
[00:37:23] giant whale i was lying or something like that this giant whale there's like a um a guy that
[00:37:30] looks like the doom guy uh there's like like jellyfish and shit like that uh and then there's
[00:37:37] the the reunion expansion dlc again for free it just comes with the fucking game
[00:37:45] yes and it fucking it revamps the characters even more so they play even even more differently
[00:37:50] so you get you get so much bang for your buck so much fucking replayability with this game and it's
[00:37:55] like what $15 or if you have game pass fucking free um yeah it's just it's really really good
[00:38:01] it's it plays really good on your phone as well too so if you want to be hooked
[00:38:04] constantly non-stop on your phone you're on your phone on your phone
[00:38:10] i think it's cheap on there too actually um i think it's like maybe five bucks on there
[00:38:16] you know i don't want to i don't want to rail our conversation but do you remember the good old
[00:38:19] days where all apps you just paid like you know 99 cents yeah even five bucks and you just got
[00:38:26] them i love a good free game on on a phone but don't get me there's just too many ads
[00:38:34] yeah the ads get so egregious but yeah it's five bucks it reminds me of the uh the sega forever
[00:38:41] i think games like the sega games that they brought to mobile but they had a shit ton of ads
[00:38:46] yeah so weird it's so bad it's like ah you you died you want more lives watching ad and it's just
[00:38:52] like all right that's why i uninstall like i'm good watch this ad for air b and b or like to
[00:38:58] resell or something stupid yeah that's what i'm about oh it is uh keith is your turn right it is
[00:39:07] so next on my list i think i think it was you who was i saw on twitter talking about it i've
[00:39:13] heard if i recall like i don't remember who it was but belatro um i yeah it's i so i'm still
[00:39:22] i don't know i'm still in a reasonable state of ours i think i might have hit double digits at
[00:39:27] this point but i don't i don't know if i'm far into it if i have but man that game is just a ton of fun
[00:39:34] yeah it like i i was never any good at poker but i would it's something that i used to play with
[00:39:41] my brother and like a bunch of friends like it was the thing we did i don't know for a while and
[00:39:45] and i always loved it so i have a pretty good understanding of the game of poker as a whole
[00:39:49] and i think that helps it but i don't think you need to because it definitely gives you
[00:39:54] good explanation and it i don't say holds your hand but it really does hold your hand it it doesn't
[00:39:59] make it overly difficult to understand what you need to do and i just i love the design of it and
[00:40:06] like i was joking about it earlier on i don't know one of the games we mentioned in the the numbers
[00:40:11] and endorphins and just watching the multipliers rack up as you start to like get a run that
[00:40:18] actually works it's just like you just feel unstoppable and it's it's so much fun
[00:40:25] it's like that jack nicholson meme where he's just like
[00:40:29] that's the multiplayer or not multiplayer as the multiplier racks up he's like yeah yeah
[00:40:35] i'm 300 that's not enough especially when you can get it to just like
[00:40:40] high card or a pair is is the thing that works better than anything else in your hand
[00:40:45] and you're and it just feels easy like i one of the things i had read about the game as i started
[00:40:52] to be like do i really want to buy this was that they're like when the run works it feels broken
[00:40:59] but broken in your favor and i was like man that that's what i like to hear yeah i think that's
[00:41:04] really what makes any road like really shine at least for me is that when you can get to a point
[00:41:10] where you're the god of the game and basically you have to want to quit to lose that's yeah that
[00:41:18] just makes it so much fun that's exactly the feeling man yeah yeah not even not just like
[00:41:24] Bellantro but also wild frost and some of the other ones i'll mention too yeah once you once
[00:41:30] you figure out a way to really break the game and like cheese the system and you feel unstoppable
[00:41:35] it's like well fuck i i don't want to stop i don't want this to come to an end yeah it absolutely
[00:41:40] has it so you've played it i actually am curious a little bit of your strategy because one of the
[00:41:45] things i was trying recently was to really heavily rely on what is it skipping the blinds and you
[00:41:51] get the bonuses but i don't know if i was if i was kicking myself in the teeth because you
[00:41:56] obviously give up money and you know like other perks but i don't know what you you tried
[00:42:01] the most i think it just depends on your situation like i'll usually just go with the blind unless
[00:42:08] i just don't need money then i'll just skip the blind but because some runs if you have a certain
[00:42:14] combination of jokers and shit you could just make an infinite amount of money pretty much but
[00:42:20] yeah i'd say only like skip the blind if you if you don't need money or say if it's just like
[00:42:26] there's uh what was it there's one joker that makes it so where like when you when you skip a card
[00:42:34] pack it gains a little bit of multiplier oh yeah if you have that and then you get like a tag where
[00:42:40] it's like get a free like mega planet pack or whatever you can just open the pack skip it and
[00:42:46] then add some to your multiplier or something oh that's how that works i was like because i was
[00:42:52] just thinking like if i skipped buying it in the store and i'm like well that's easy that's why i thought
[00:42:58] too for the longest time okay so you have to open it and then skip the cards that makes a lot more
[00:43:03] sense yeah i'm gonna have to try that because i do well one of the other things i was trying is
[00:43:07] it was the the achievement to beat a run i think it's in under 12 rounds so i was that's
[00:43:14] another reason i was also heavily relying on skipping blinds i was just like so i would
[00:43:18] what i would do even at least is i would start the first run kind of over and over again
[00:43:22] and if the first two blind skips weren't worth it it's like nope i'm gonna start this over because
[00:43:26] obviously you can't see past the the first ante but it's like i'm gonna keep keep doing this and
[00:43:33] it was never successful i think the best i got was like the the fifth ante and i thought i was
[00:43:38] doing so good and then it kicked my ass said no it's and you mentioned the uh like the look
[00:43:45] of the game too it's super cool it's like you're staring into one of those like video poker machines
[00:43:51] in the bay we have never been to vegas or messed like a video poker machine but like it looks
[00:43:56] like what i assumed that would look like i mean i guess i've watched i've seen a few on bar rescue
[00:44:00] so like sure i shout out shout out to bar rescue yeah i got shot tapper if you're listening
[00:44:08] i'd love to have you on super pot saga yes well i love that you mentioned the video
[00:44:14] poker too because i think it actually adds like well there's literally no story to it it is just hey
[00:44:20] here's poker you're playing it on on the screen it almost adds an element of storytelling in a weird
[00:44:26] way that you're playing on some weird hacked poker video poker machine and it's just like it's so
[00:44:32] broken that you can just do whatever you want basically so that's at least what i like to tell
[00:44:37] myself it really does man yeah i mean you get a little uh little jester guy kind of yucking at you
[00:44:44] the whole time yapping hints and stuff at you but hate him yeah it does it's such a wild concept
[00:44:50] like hey poker and roguelike put this together there you go i never would ever think that yeah
[00:44:56] but i i absolutely love the idea it works man shout out to uh uh taylor's in the backlog uh
[00:45:03] david and matt storm and i talked about belatro a little bit uh go listen to that listeners if you
[00:45:09] if you want to learn more about belatro i yeah that was pretty good but uh andrew what's your next one
[00:45:14] man so my next one is madden football uh no i'm just joking uh i'm gonna make my boyfriend dungeon
[00:45:23] okay cool each run is called the season uh you got to get better players uh
[00:45:29] um so like for me like roguelikes well this next one i guess i'll give a shout out this this will
[00:45:38] be for our third co-host my wife this is always her favorite roguelike she always ends up bringing
[00:45:43] this game up i remember enjoying this game but not as much as her but that game is void bastards
[00:45:50] ooh it it came out i think like five years ago but it's very cell shaded very comic book
[00:45:56] ask it has the whole like blam blam blam and you're shooting a gun like it shows that uh image of it
[00:46:02] but the story is kind of interesting of you know you are these criminals on a like spaceship that's
[00:46:07] going to prison but your ship broke down and so you're essentially these criminals that are
[00:46:13] stuck in these like deep-freezed like potato chip baskets like you're you're reconstructed out
[00:46:18] of like it's a very dark story kind of how it is too so you like you're reconstructed as
[00:46:23] these criminals and they're basically like yeah hey you got to fix the ship uh good luck here's a
[00:46:27] here's a crappy pistol you know and so you have to jump to different points you can kind of see
[00:46:31] what you're going at what kind of ships you're going to but there's a whole lot of looting
[00:46:34] there's a whole lot of shooting you'll find some freaky space monsters like i said it's all kind
[00:46:39] of it's a 3d world but they're kind of 2d looking it's very comic book style but you're
[00:46:44] trying to loot things and eventually you know you get better guns with each run and it's a
[00:46:49] little bit like rogue legacy too where you each prisoner has weird like unique perks to them i don't
[00:46:56] even call them perks and some are kind of bad like oh this prisoner's a smoker so everyone wants to
[00:47:00] start coughing so if you're trying to do like a stealth run you obviously don't want to do with
[00:47:04] that guy because he'll just start coughing up and then people will hear you but it's it's really
[00:47:08] cool because you also know when a bad guy is coming like a really big guy's because you'll see
[00:47:11] on the screen thump thump thump and so you'll get like this big bad guy it's a very fun game
[00:47:17] but it's just it's very dark and kind of twisted of like you being prisoners
[00:47:21] and it kind of it's a story too yeah it's there is an ending there is and it's also not crazy hard
[00:47:28] because my wife actually beat it and she the ending kind of was like made her kind of sad but she's
[00:47:33] still loved the game but yeah it's it's not a crazy hard roguelike to get into that uh
[00:47:40] reminds me of this one wasn't on my list but shout out to it anyway robo quest this one
[00:47:46] yes that was on my list i was going to mention that i loved robo quest that game was awesome
[00:47:51] it's a good co-op one too hell yeah but that's the same style that one also is like kind of an art
[00:47:56] style of like guns saying the sound effects that they're doing i loved robo quest i got so many
[00:48:01] people in that game nice dude yeah that one's so fucking fun oh man i can't i can't oh i don't
[00:48:08] know which one i want to do next fuck it let's talk about world of horror that one uh
[00:48:13] haven't talked about that game in a while now um i don't have heard of this one you haven't hear
[00:48:19] yeah world of horror it's on a i think it's only on switch and steam i i don't know for sure if
[00:48:24] it's on playstation or xbox but world of horror is like uh the art style is it's all black and
[00:48:32] white it's like i think they call it like one bit or somebody or two bit or something like
[00:48:37] i think i have seen this game this game looks trippy yeah it's reminiscent of like uh the uh
[00:48:45] i forget like the junji ito like the the manga that he draws and it's got a lot of like love crafty
[00:48:52] and horror to it as well too but you'll play as a different character going around this small
[00:48:59] japanese town solving mysteries like you'll have all these different mysteries pinned up on your
[00:49:03] your pin board in your room and you'll pick one and go solve it and the mysteries really just
[00:49:10] consist of going to one place you hit a button to investigate and it'll be like um like a little
[00:49:17] like a little story segment and give you different choices so it'll be like uh
[00:49:22] you go to this place and you talk to this man and he says this uh what do you do when you can
[00:49:28] you pick one of like two three or four choices and also it's like a choose your own adventure
[00:49:33] basically basically yeah i couldn't think of that term for a second there but yeah basically like that
[00:49:37] and then the the choices that you make very heavily affect the outcome of of your run like the
[00:49:44] story of the run and all that stuff so like if you if you do one thing in this mystery
[00:49:49] it'll affect what happens and like the next mystery or it'll affect what happens later on
[00:49:54] in that same mystery like say you come across like a cat and you you choose not to save it from whatever
[00:50:03] they'll come to bite you in the ass maybe later on in your in the story you're doing or something
[00:50:08] who wouldn't save the cat come on i know man sometimes you don't have the option to it it's
[00:50:13] so sad and the combat is fucking hardcore it'll it'll you'll you'll be like right up in
[00:50:20] this enemy's face and you'll have all these different options like that it's a there's a
[00:50:26] shit ton of different things you can do during combat like you can look for an improvised weapon
[00:50:32] you can prepare like a more powerful attack you can kick the enemy push him down order an
[00:50:38] ally to attack them there's all sorts of fucking shit you can do in combat it's
[00:50:43] it's all based on like time and stamina and stuff like that uh it's a yeah it's a really
[00:50:49] interesting game it's uh there's a lot of unlockables again which always tickles my fancies
[00:50:55] as just it's super dark super eerie creepy but it's it's a lot of fun yeah i i kind of i googled
[00:51:03] it here and like as you are talking i just i have like on silent just watching videos that
[00:51:08] are playing on steam okay and a holy crap this is this is like nightmare fuel yeah i mean the
[00:51:15] game is called world of horror well yeah but it's it's like low it's low i mean i guess that explains
[00:51:21] the one bit like super low graphic looks like it's running on almost like uh like an old original
[00:51:27] ms dos elementary school macintosh computer is what it looks like it's running on yeah dude some sort
[00:51:34] of like the ring type of thing you found it on a disc somewhere like what i think is probably on
[00:51:39] your list and you know it is inscription right like that's kind of how that game starts
[00:51:43] it's something new with the disc feels like this come out of that but look terrifying it's awesome
[00:51:50] though man it's the combat is a lot at times but i mean i guess those all the options that give you
[00:51:58] in combat really add to like i guess the amount of strategy that you have to try and defeat enemies
[00:52:03] because sometimes it feels really one-sided but like there's a lot of things you can do to
[00:52:07] push the combat in your in your favor it's awesome before we get to your next or before
[00:52:14] we get to Keith next should we take an ad break sure i'll allow it you gotta what have we said no
[00:52:22] would you not do without break yeah i'd fucking skip it no i'm gonna i go without you

[00:55:27] it's really important to stay hydrated they say to drink eight to ten cups of water per day
[00:55:38] to stay properly hydrated but sometimes that can be difficult to do and completely inconvenient and
[00:55:44] most of us don't feel like carrying a gallon of water with us at all times that's where liquid
[00:55:48] i v comes in liquid i v is the category winning hydration brand fueling your well being
[00:55:54] and their hydration multiplier is the one product you're missing in your daily routine
[00:55:58] in just one stick you get five essential vitamins and two times faster hydration than water alone
[00:56:05] use it first thing in the morning before a workout when you feel run down after a long
[00:56:09] night out or on long flights man in iowa the summers can be brutal 90 degrees and tons of
[00:56:16] humidity and that just saps the energy and water right out of your system within just a few
[00:56:21] minutes luckily liquid i v hydrates two times faster than water alone with three times the electrolytes
[00:56:28] of traditional sports drinks it's very important to replace those electrolytes you know and i i
[00:56:33] just love how quick and easy it is to use liquid i v you just get one packet and a bottle of water
[00:56:39] and you just pour that packet into the bottle of water shake the heck out of it and bam you are
[00:56:43] good to go since using liquid i v i felt way more alert active and just plain better versus
[00:56:50] drinking water alone my favorite flavors to go to are the yuzu pineapple energy multiplier
[00:56:56] and the tropical punch hydration multiplier i can't get enough of those ones and what makes them even
[00:57:01] better is like i mentioned earlier they're packed with five essential vitamins like b3 b5 b6 b12 and
[00:57:07] vitamin c and again yeah three times the electrolytes of traditional sports drinks and their non-gmo
[00:57:13] and free from gluten dairy and soy which is just great so uh you can get 20 off when you go to liquid

[00:58:12] yeah i guess they're born out of eggs that's like it's like the only mammal that's like born out of an
[00:58:16] egg or something like that that's like another weird thing about them fuck yeah yeah crazy ivans
[00:58:21] platypus hatchery sorry they they breed only the the purest breed of platypuses with the
[00:58:28] the finest genetic traits like smooth tails and and bills and and shit i don't know i don't

[00:59:47] i'm gonna look it up when we platypus eat whatever you want them to eat you can train them that's
[00:59:53] true yeah our our crazy ivans platypus is their carnivorous still you whatever's put in their

[01:00:02] apple down you could throw down a i don't know a kitten no that's too dark no i have a boat with
[01:00:08] 10 guarding my house right now so oh great for security that's a great platypus boat do you want
[01:00:16] to know or do you want a milk of platypus well you can't do it here because our platypus is our
[01:00:22] nipple less as for what aerodynamics swimming yeah for the more aerodynamic for guarding your
[01:00:32] property do you imagine sneaking up on someone's like a state like their mansion their million
[01:00:38] dollar mansion they scream ah nipple this platypus is they're like get him and then like all these
[01:00:44] platypuses are slowly walking toward you or like waddling or whatever they do they're like
[01:00:50] whack or whatever the fuck sound they make and if you go to crazy ivans just tell them to
[01:00:56] put it on your bill thanks crazy i'm in don't forget to stop on our infirmary on your way out
[01:01:06] from the scratches that may be causing some sort of inflection we don't know what it is
[01:01:12] we don't know how to fix it but our infirmary will check you out they'll probably give you a
[01:01:17] vaccine yeah like like you have plot you can track platypus flu or something yeah they they
[01:01:24] produce venom i don't i don't what i haven't figured out all of what it does but they actually do
[01:01:30] produce a venom what the fuck primarily during the mating season this is a joke animal that like
[01:01:37] this was made in a lab or something this really is this is like something you'd make it spore
[01:01:43] it's described as extremely painful but not lethally humans it can bite that's why they're
[01:01:49] it's it's in their out their hind legs primarily during the mating season so it's when they get
[01:01:55] horny they get i don't know venomous they get horny they get venomous these really are
[01:02:02] joke animals man i don't know how to work that into it to more of a joke it's just you kind of just
[01:02:06] read it and it is what it is just read platypus fax and it's it's a joke in itself
[01:02:11] it's it's car fax platypus fax how many how many people has my platypus killed well
[01:02:21] luckily crazy i haven't had that information for you just say show me the platypus show me the
[01:02:26] post fax but seriously don't google that please please do not google post fax
[01:02:45] back by the way wait hold on i mean we are back but like i just found a video on youtube
[01:02:51] that apparently platypus is glow in the dark what i don't know no hold on i'm looking this up hang on
[01:03:00] platypus is glow in the dark dude under ultraviolet light giving there for a bluish green hue
[01:03:09] this really is a joke animal man but they're not a joke in 1991 Keith Payne a former member
[01:03:16] of the australian armor and recipient of the victoria cross australia's highest award for valor
[01:03:22] was struck on the hand by a platypus sparval trying to rescue the stranded animal he described the
[01:03:27] pain it's worse than being struck by shrapnel my lady was still experiencing pain in that hand
[01:03:32] and in 2006 he still reported discomfort and stiffness when carrying out some physical
[01:03:37] activities these things are not a joke jesus christ oh you're stopping this episode now talking
[01:03:43] about platypus is for the rest of this episode yeah apparently we need to do a platypus podcast
[01:03:48] the the puss cast the puss cast
[01:03:53] fuck man Keith what's your next rule oh man here we go back to that
[01:04:00] is there now there's no there's no platypus in there atomba crops
[01:04:06] another one that we had done and uh i forgot about atomba crops i bought the dlc
[01:04:12] five days before it left um game pass that i have not gone back and actually bought atomba crop
[01:04:18] sentence which is really a damn shame but it is such a fun game yes it's a farming game mixed with
[01:04:27] a twin stick shooter roguelike and it's so you have like the whole run is based on going
[01:04:34] through four seasons of farming and you have i don't remember what it kind of labels them as but
[01:04:42] you have like these four separate areas north south east and west and you unlock them opening up the
[01:04:47] bridges with with money that you get in the game and it's just there's like in between the run
[01:04:53] you go to this sort of overworld and that's where you can buy new weapons and unlock perks
[01:04:59] and all of these things and there's just weird elements and it's so much fun the music that like
[01:05:05] you were talking about it with um i don't remember what game he said it was uh you were talking with
[01:05:11] the music being awesome uh dicey dungeons the atomba crops music is awesome like in the
[01:05:17] overworld it has this sort of folksy like banjo music and it's uh yeah it's it's awesome so i love
[01:05:25] the boss battle theme more it's like yes the boss battle go go oh yeah yeah it has like weird gibberish
[01:05:31] like singing with locals yeah i love that by the way really fun factor everybody uh the the crow
[01:05:37] that's in the new super pot soccer cover art it's heavily based off of the orega crow uh yeah
[01:05:44] i wouldn't ask you that i was i was worried about yeah um yeah that's that's a really
[01:05:49] fucking good game that i think it was on so yeah i played it on game pass like the day before it left
[01:05:59] game pass and then it was on sale for like two dollars so i was like okay i'll just fucking buy
[01:06:03] that and the the reap what you crow dlc and all that stuff and yeah it would yeah it was surprisingly
[01:06:09] really really good that game is awesome yeah i love this homicrops because it's like kind of
[01:06:14] tower defensish too yeah yeah oh yeah i forgot about those yeah the veggies will help you fight the boss
[01:06:19] and stuff like that yeah you can get like turrets and like scarecrows yeah the different farmers play
[01:06:26] very uniquely oh yeah yeah yeah and you're gonna get married yeah it's actually and it's not too
[01:06:33] hard of a game i actually beat that game on maximum difficulty i didn't know it does get hard but it
[01:06:38] wasn't like way brutal and the guns are really fucking cool too like there's just your your machine
[01:06:44] guns there's rifles there's the leech gun which i really fucking love uh there's like super soaker
[01:06:51] type guns there's like a fucking scythe you can get yeah um yeah that game is is awesome and that
[01:06:57] that in animated uh intro to the game is really funny too it's just like you inherited a farm
[01:07:02] and then yeah it's like this whole world of it really had to make fun of the the farming simulator
[01:07:09] type of games but it has this whole like different element of what you think you're getting into a
[01:07:12] game it just never goes back to that never mentions it again oh what about what about you
[01:07:21] vander what's your next game all right uh so this next game uh i feel like it's easily overlooked
[01:07:28] but there's just one thing about it that is so good uh so the game i'm mentioning as despots games
[01:07:35] this was on game pass it it already left but it is a once again an auto battler you have stick figure
[01:07:43] you have a stick figure party there's different weapons you can get you know as they're leveling up
[01:07:47] you know it's kind of like you're in a robots hunger game so you kind of pick your starter classes
[01:07:52] of like oh do you want a group of the warrior class so you have like three warriors two guys
[01:07:56] with shields two guys with swords and like maybe a mage caster and once again if you're building
[01:08:01] like oh if you have multiple warriors they get an added perk you know if you have four warriors on
[01:08:04] your team they get extra health and so you're just kind of you're jumping through room to room
[01:08:09] you're setting up your lineup how you want you want your shield guys in the front mages in the
[01:08:13] back healers in the middle like you're kind of setting it up in different ways there's also a
[01:08:17] way to like auto do it too um and uh you gotta feed your troops so you gotta make sure you
[01:08:22] get food because if they start to get hungry they obviously don't fight as well but what makes
[01:08:27] despots games so good if anyone has played any roguelike you always get that feeling of like oh
[01:08:33] I am a god right now this is awesome there's no way I can lose in despots games there's an actual
[01:08:39] leaderboard at the end if you actually win the run it actually puts your team against real people
[01:08:44] who have won with their teams so it actually has like a ranking system so it's really cool to see
[01:08:50] your team your winning team go against other people's winning team and you can prove no my team
[01:08:55] legitimate was awesome and like you actually can have a leaderboard of it I loved that feature in it
[01:09:00] and I don't understand why roguelike's don't do that more that is awesome I I was playing that
[01:09:05] a little bit it's another one that I touched on while it was on game pass switch is it still
[01:09:10] or it's not on game pass anymore I wasn't saying I knew it was leaving but yeah I never
[01:09:15] I never played as much of it and I wish I did now actually the more you're talking about it
[01:09:20] yeah I just I just loved that feature of the leaderboard at the end because then you can
[01:09:22] actually prove to your friends and stuff like no I had a sweet combo
[01:09:28] speaking above of games where you feel like an absolute fucking unstoppable god
[01:09:33] the next one I had is is evilings which still not a lot of people have played every time I
[01:09:40] bring this up people think that I'm fucking crazy or something but it's like a like a mix of
[01:09:46] Pokemon and sleigh the spire almost because like you'll you'll start a nice combo yeah when you
[01:09:53] start your run first off when you when you start the game you'll have a limited number of evilings
[01:09:59] that you can they can pick and choose from but when you start to run you'll pick an eviling
[01:10:04] and then you'll go down the map sleigh the spire style you'll fight enemies level up your evil
[01:10:09] or power up your evilings I should say buy items from from the store you can hit up a slot
[01:10:16] machine to try to win more money or win a free eviling or something and it's all sorts of goofy
[01:10:21] stuff that can happen on the map but the combat is all turn based it's just like your evilings will
[01:10:28] for sure attack first and then the enemies go and each eviling has different attacks that they have
[01:10:34] by default and I guess after a while you don't pick up any more evilings but like
[01:10:39] you will pick up more evilings as you go along and you can when you get like I think
[01:10:44] it's like three of one eviling you confuse them together to make one super powerful eviling or
[01:10:51] if you get like two of one and then one of another you confuse them to make another powerful guy
[01:10:56] then they can become shiny which doesn't do anything except make them look cool just like a pokemon
[01:11:03] there's some wicked tough bosses to fight there's all sorts of do
[01:11:09] do there are some evilings kind of like like in pokemon ready yellow and blue there were there was a
[01:11:15] few pokemon you can only get from the slot machine there are some evilings that you can only get from
[01:11:19] the slot machine there's yeah a lot of unlockables to this one too there there's like there's
[01:11:23] different modes you can play through then add different abilities to the game like there's one
[01:11:31] that makes it so all of your your items or relics or whatever are randomized each battle
[01:11:37] battle so you never know what the fuck to expect there but uh yeah it's four or five dollars on steam
[01:11:45] eight dollars on switch it's really really fun how was that spelled I was trying to find it
[01:11:52] yeah either so it's evo lin gs uh evil as an evolution uh that makes sense
[01:12:03] evil links I was feeling evil yep I was thinking evil links this okay and with your your explanation
[01:12:11] just looking at the picture this all makes way more sense yeah it sounded fun but I'm like trying
[01:12:17] to figure it out now okay yeah I'm in and I'm in on this game it's awesome yeah me like said
[01:12:26] five dollars on steam it's it's like eight dollars on switch it's kind of worth it to buy the
[01:12:31] male seat of a steam deck it's kind of worth it just by the switch version so you can take it
[01:12:34] wherever you can go on the you can go on the toilet for like an hour and a half and play evil
[01:12:40] links there if you want but uh otherwise if you use the toilet at your desk you could you get
[01:12:44] on steam I suppose okay yeah let's get that little intro of like spinning around the monsters
[01:12:52] as it as it goes into battle yeah dude where where have the calls been to for Nintendo to sue
[01:13:00] them I want to come from power yeah no everyone wants power worlds but no one went for evil links
[01:13:07] come on I don't know they've got some really like I don't know how the fuck to explain like the evil
[01:13:13] links are all like kind of basic but like I don't know they like pep like there's someone called
[01:13:20] peppermint he's really fucking cool it's one called blob he's really cool uh cosmo he's
[01:13:26] really awesome as well too they're all they're all cute awesome
[01:13:30] Wanda she that's that's why I might have sucks that's no peppermint
[01:13:39] Keith go ahead with your that was that was my last one we'll do our last one say that yeah
[01:13:45] I mean I really all all I had on my list past this one was a reference for children of Morda
[01:13:50] and then Robo quest which we talked about already so I don't have to go into those but
[01:13:54] another one I actually I don't think it's on game pass anymore but is neon abyss nope it's still there
[01:14:02] I was up that one that one is uh I don't know if I would say I love it love it but it is
[01:14:08] it is a chunk of fun it's another one that if I recall correctly you can pretty much just keep
[01:14:15] stacking items you only get one weapon at a time but there are some pretty wacky weapons and
[01:14:21] especially if you have like the right you know set of items and stuff it can just be a lot of fun
[01:14:26] and it's and it's one that it's very rng base but where it's a 2d platformer you have these
[01:14:34] little like secret rooms and stuff that you can go into and it's like if you don't get hurt
[01:14:39] then you get the best reward that you can get and it's pretty much always a
[01:14:44] very good weapon basically or if you get hit I think just at all or two times or more
[01:14:50] then you get just a little bit of health and that's it but like all these other little Metroidvania
[01:14:54] type of things if you build up enough keys and different different things but yeah it's it's
[01:15:00] one that again might not be one of my favorites I've ever played but I have played a lot of
[01:15:05] hours out of it and nice if you're looking for a 2d platformer type of game that's pretty
[01:15:10] forgiving unlike say maybe dead cells which I think they added after after you guys talked
[01:15:17] about it but they have basically like god mode on dead cells now so if you will if you do want to
[01:15:24] beat the game without having to worry about the difficulty you can pretty much turn dead cells
[01:15:28] is brutally hard yeah so you can actually turn on accessibility settings which is another thing
[01:15:32] just as a really quick and I'll make this my last like side topic accessibility of rogue like I
[01:15:38] think is really key I try not to turn them on but having those elements of accessibility that
[01:15:43] make them able to be beaten by anyone is just a huge element so anyways yeah neon abyss is a ton of
[01:15:50] fun and especially if you have if you're a game pass user play it while you can it's it's worth
[01:15:54] checking out and go ahead I was saying can't you also collect like eggs to hatch little
[01:16:02] little pets that give you cool passive abilities too yeah I still honestly in all of the hours
[01:16:08] I've played I don't quite understand how like I think they can take damage some of them and
[01:16:15] and there's weird elements like that but yeah you can have I think infinite amount of them has been
[01:16:19] as long as you keep collecting them so yeah you'll have a trail of like 30 of these little egg
[01:16:25] things following you at point but there's there's elements of that and like I don't know when you
[01:16:30] go back to the overworld you're unlocking at least little story elements of you know
[01:16:35] different floors of this building you're like in a club I think ultimately you're trying to get up to
[01:16:40] Satan who runs the club something weird like that but anyway yeah it's it's a really fun and I would
[01:16:47] say pretty accessible without needing accessibility 2d platformer roguelike nice man yeah it's a
[01:16:56] good pic all right uh there for my last pic uh not a game pass but uh it has some game pass
[01:17:03] kind of controversy with but uh cult of the lamb uh I remember when this game first came out there was
[01:17:07] a big rumor that sony paid the developers to not put it on game pass and this whole other stuff but
[01:17:14] yeah cult of the lamb I've always been interested in this game because their twitter game like their
[01:17:20] twitter account is so good uh they they blew up on twitter because they did a whole meme of
[01:17:24] hey this gets 100 000 likes will add sex to the game and if you see the game it's super
[01:17:29] cutesy looking it's just these adorable animals I mean you're obviously playing a lamb but you're
[01:17:34] like possessed by a demonic spirit and you're essentially like creating a cult hence its name
[01:17:39] but it has like a cool interesting like base management you got to feed your followers
[01:17:44] sacrifice your followers assign them to different jobs around the camp and while you're going and
[01:17:48] doing dungeon runs and getting better weapons and trying to fight like these for profits in
[01:17:53] order to free the demon that possessed you it's such a wacky story but it's it's very fun I got
[01:18:01] sucked into it it was on sale I got it for like 12 bucks and it's like and it's well worth it
[01:18:06] they've done so many free good contents for it and I'm just every time I keep seeing their twitter
[01:18:10] of like they just always have such a funny twitter that I was just like I gotta check this game out
[01:18:14] dude that is such a good one I think I've beaten like two of the profits I think I spend most
[01:18:19] of my time on the the cult management part yeah I thought the I thought the cult management
[01:18:24] stuff would be super generic and like basic but no there's a lot of times where I'm sitting like an
[01:18:28] hour just like chopping trees and trying to build new hovels for my peasants and it's just like
[01:18:33] this is awesome yeah there's a ton of just tiny little elements like that and it's it almost
[01:18:42] has that element of like you want to do different overall games like it doesn't have the full
[01:18:48] I guess for like of like independent runs I don't know you because you can have two separate
[01:18:55] waves because of how you can build what it's it yeah like your theologies and all of these things
[01:19:01] I'm like I don't know it's it's a really cool game though I had a lot of fun with it I haven't
[01:19:05] I haven't played it in a while though that's the only reason it didn't make my list yeah it's
[01:19:08] not crazy hard but it's it's challenging enough and it's just fun with these adorable animals
[01:19:14] like worshiping like demonic spirits it's kind of weird let's go that cool diorama like art style too
[01:19:21] yeah it's really awesome hey it's like turn it you can sacrifice them and turn them into like demons
[01:19:26] that fight alongside you when you go into battle yeah feed them bowls of shit that's cool too or
[01:19:31] feed them grass yeah that's a box that'll be that'll always be like a villager request
[01:19:36] we're like yeah they want you to feed like a bowl of shit to this one yeah all right fine
[01:19:41] or one wants to eat another follower and it's like all right i guess i'm gonna follow her for you
[01:19:46] it's so weird i just i just send yes to all requests it seems weird but whatever
[01:19:51] yeah that's what that's what like tear me out of this game because their twitter that lamb is so
[01:19:54] cute looking it's just like this cute bubbly face with like this red cloak and a crown
[01:20:00] and i'm just like what is this game then you play it's like well this is wild
[01:20:08] oh yeah that's so good
[01:20:11] oh
[01:20:21] well yeah that's it that's all the best roguelikes uh i guess quick shout out to uh shovel knife pocket
[01:20:29] dungeon and luck be a landlord uh those are pretty good luck being landlords like a slot machine deck
[01:20:34] builder it's fucking insane oh yeah i was looking that one that looks cool yeah that's on phones as
[01:20:41] well too plays just fine on phones but uh yeah once again guys working people find you find your show and
