EP 62 - Super Space Pirates | Ft. Adrien (Schadsquatch)

This week we invite Adrien (Schadsquatch) on to the show to talk about EVE Online, board games, and even some Alan Wake II with a dash of Control.

[00:00:00] I'm sorry, I'm the Nyquil.

[00:00:04] I'll blame it on the Nyquil.

[00:00:06] Blame it on the drugs.

[00:00:08] I did it all for the Nyquil.

[00:00:12] All right.

[00:00:14] Oh, pro tip, Adrian, you're gonna wanna turn

[00:00:16] your volume down for this?

[00:00:17] No, no, no, no, I fixed this.

[00:00:20] Sure you did.

[00:00:21] Yeah, I did, check it out.

[00:00:24] I said check it out.

[00:00:26] I'm waiting to get my. I'm doing well. I've not kicked a single cat this evening. Some of us can't say the same. You're doing better than normal. You kicked three cats yesterday. What?

[00:01:41] They saw it and they had it coming.

[00:01:42] Jesus Christ. Well, what better way to introduce our guest?

[00:01:46] What the fuck?

[00:02:43] Something almost got in the way by me being sick. And then I said, no, I'm doing it for Adrian, baby.

[00:02:47] Actual Jesus Christ came down from the heavens.

[00:02:50] It's like, no, you're doing this for Adrian.

[00:02:52] Let's get her done.

[00:02:53] Yeah.

[00:02:54] So Adrian, welcome.

[00:02:55] Please go ahead and plug and promote anything

[00:02:58] that you're doing right now.

[00:03:00] Where can people find you?

[00:03:01] Oh, hey.

[00:03:02] Yeah, my name is Adrian.

[00:03:03] I stream on Twitch.

[00:03:05] I stream a lot of Eve online horror games

[00:03:07] and a little bit of Dungeons and Dragons. I know that you said that you haven't played it yet, and I'm gonna try to keep this a spoiler free as possible. Don't ruin this for me, Jerry. I'm not gonna ruin it for you. Beth, you have seen Alan Wake pretty much in its entirety. Yes, because I'm a baby and cannot play scary games by myself. But this though, this one you said you might,

[00:04:22] you said on the last podcast,

[00:04:23] this might be the one that you actually go and play. It's definitely a bit of a... It didn't age very well Yeah, I played that remake like right before Alan Wake 2 came out and like it was okay, but like oh Man, it was pretty much just like levels Yeah, that's pretty much what it was. It was just level by level by level but

[00:05:40] Stepping into Alan Wake 2 is like it's just a completely different thing all together

[00:05:45] They're not even remotely the same kind of game

[00:06:43] flashlight and then you can hit it has like charges one. Yeah, you just like blast it with our one, but like, that's the only

[00:06:46] time that you're actually like using that like blast.

[00:06:54] But yeah, I think one of the things to me that is really

[00:07:00] exciting about Alan wake to is the way that it's connected to

[00:07:04] control and this remedy verse that they've done. So like, well,

[00:08:08] probably didn't have as like massive of an impact. But, and I knew that there was like the fake out ending with like the credits. So those two big things I did know were coming, but I kind of like

[00:08:15] really didn't know much about the story, like the actual just like minute to minute story. And I had

[00:08:21] a good time with that. And I was have a fan shot at fucking Maze. What?

[00:09:40] Yeah.

[00:09:41] Unless that's something that you had to do to beat it, then I definitely did.

[00:09:45] But yeah.

[00:09:46] You would know what the ashtray maze is.

[00:09:47] Yeah. There's so many things that are like sprinkled around control and I also in outlet like yeah, go ahead Just want it like I want to say I'm so happy that I played control after like I'll like to came out because all the little references to Alan wake one and bright balls and all like all that stuff was like

[00:12:01] badly to keep this a secret from you. And I feel like she's probably reeling a bit right now

[00:12:03] because your reaction to us revealing that Beth has played

[00:12:07] and finished control, which she wanted specifically

[00:12:10] to keep a secret from you so that you wouldn't know

[00:12:12] so that she could surprise you and be like, surprise,

[00:12:15] I played one of your favorite games

[00:12:16] and now I can talk about it, huh?

[00:12:18] And your reaction is just, let me eat my pizza.

[00:12:21] No, he immediately muted his mic.

[00:12:24] Muted.

[00:12:26] My reaction was one of like, I've expansions. Not really. Like you do have like a certain amount of lives that you can do, but there is a whole like leveling thing. There's like skill trees involved. There's the dodge mechanic and there's like a block mechanic that's health. There's all sorts of cool things that like call back to like Dark Souls games. But another really cool thing is that the miniatures

[00:13:43] are like actually really, really like good looking.

[00:13:47] So they're like really like awesome. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure.

[00:15:00] I'm not sure.

[00:15:01] I'm not sure.

[00:15:02] I'm not sure.

[00:15:03] I'm not sure.

[00:15:04] I'm not sure.

[00:15:05] I'm not sure.

[00:15:06] I'm not sure.

[00:15:07] I'm not sure.

[00:15:08] I'm not gonna spoil anything for you because it is it is like yeah the hype is real. I believe it. Oh my God. But so there's a board game called betrayal at the house on the hill. Um, and there's a version where it's like a legacy where you, where you can like permanently change the board, you can add stickers. Um, it changes the rules of

[00:16:23] the game and there's like a story that's like 30 or 40, depending on how focused people are. Well, here's a question. Who made more like a full D&D campaign? Yeah. Something like that is long, but nowhere near. So I've recently kind of been getting the bug to start buying board games and stuff.

[00:17:44] Oh, fuck them.

[00:17:45] Finally.

[00:17:46] Yeah. and in Vancouver Chinatown and you're all trying to build up your own little shops and every single rounds I mean place down tiles, but then you're also bartering for other people's tiles that they have so that you can build your own shops and You can you can barter for anything you bar for money You can barter for like other people's tiles. You can bar bar barter for like favors outside of the game

[00:19:02] Like it's and just basically turns into like you fucking bitch you are

[00:20:08] It's a engine building game where you play as a village of little Vikings and your goal is to feed your feed your little Viking Families and then ship them off to other lands and you basically have like a little Tetris

[00:20:14] Board that you're trying to fill up all the negative points and you're at the same time

[00:20:18] You're trying to like go on pillaging and it's basically you sort you sort of sit there you build your little engine

[00:20:24] But there's a shared board between all the players

[00:21:23] Greg what's that mine and I have ticket to ride

[00:21:28] It's pretty good

[00:21:33] Greg what's what's your your biggest board game that you have right now besides gloom haven?

[00:21:39] Like physically the largest or like my favorite biggest the biggest the happiest

[00:21:46] I've got the wingspan big box. I don't know if that counts because that's like one game plus all the expansions

[00:24:21] Consolidated into one box deal, but it was, I could have got it for like, honestly, like $70, $60, $70. And I passed up on it and I thought about it. Did you get that Catan 3D thing? No, no. The fucking people, the sculptors at Costco made that impossible. Like Catan, I'm beyond Cat, and so I like texted him in all caps, like don't tell my secrets. Yeah, keep my secrets. Keep my secrets. Did you record any of it? Record any what? Oh, no, I did. I did take a screen share of a part where she got stuck in a box.

[00:24:24] And I was running around in a box was just...

[00:24:27] That's what we should do. fast from the maze to the end. And there's a certain part at the end where you just get locked in and you can't get off the ride anymore. And I kind of got to that part, like, really fast without realizing that I couldn't, once I kind of got past a certain

[00:25:41] point that I had to keep going until it was over. And so I did that and I hit credits.

[00:26:43] don't end up starting and then abandoning halfway through, and then coming back to him in a couple months,

[00:26:45] and that excitement comes down.

[00:26:48] Buy a Mario RPG and I will transfer you the money for it.

[00:26:51] What?

[00:26:52] I said buy a Mario RPG and I'll transfer you the money for it.

[00:26:55] No.

[00:26:59] No, because I'm going home.

[00:27:00] So I'm going to get Dio feel done.

[00:27:02] And then when I go home, I got to finish Tears of the Kingdom.

[00:27:04] And then the Pokemon DLC comes out over Christmas stuff.

[00:27:07] So I'll probably be playing a bunch of that. I won't play a bunch more lethal company. So I would be lying if I said that this game has been just absolutely taking over like social media and stuff. I, I honestly have only just heard about it constantly. I have not, I've only seen like the trailer on steam for it and I didn't

[00:29:42] even watch it with sound.

[00:29:43] And after you had said that you were playing it, I was like, you know what?

[00:29:47] I'm just going to keep myself blind to it.

[00:30:43] So if you, so when you start a new round, you actually start a new seed. So every space, every, like every place you go into completely new,

[00:30:48] new bad guys, new layouts, new everything. Um, it's wild.

[00:30:52] It is so much fun.

[00:30:55] And it's cheap right now. Like it's super cheap. Yeah.

[00:30:58] Everyone should be playing it. Like I'm looking at the store right now.

[00:31:02] And I think it's, oh, it doesn't pop up anymore for me. Oh,

[00:31:05] it's $13 Canadian. Yeah, that's crazy.

[00:32:02] into a pit of darkness. They were like, wow, I love this.

[00:32:03] And then they just like, they cut off

[00:32:05] and they just disappeared because they like turned a corner

[00:32:07] and there was no floor anymore.

[00:32:09] And they fell into a boy.

[00:32:10] It was really funny.

[00:32:14] It's the clothing and gold.

[00:32:16] Maybe I'll pick this up.

[00:32:17] Oh.

[00:32:19] I'll play this with you 100%.

[00:32:23] Yeah, the best part about the game

[00:32:25] by far is the trick jump. And I'm like, I might talk to him. And he's talking to me. And then as soon as I jump, I immediately plunged to my death. But you don't just, you don't just like clip out and you just don't die. It's like, oh,

[00:35:00] Yeah, I think I, I love that stuff. Because I want to pick it up. I'll pick it up. I just have to see see what the old paychecks looking like. But and yes, I know it's only $13. Things are dire. You had a fridge incident like that's yeah. You had a fridge incident.

[00:35:02] Oh, another time.

[00:35:04] I'll tell you about it.

[00:35:06] Oh man. we were in the merch light up, the first band started playing. So finally we got our merch. I was like, All right, let's go. And he's like, Where do you want to like grab a seat? And I was like, a seat? No, no, no, we're getting down in the in the in the shit man, because it was a it was a metal show. So I like to be down in the shit in the pit. So he's like, All right. So the

[00:36:21] band had just stopped playing the song and we kind of like are It's like, it's at a metal show in a fucking pit. I'm like, that phone is disintegrated. There's definitely nothing left to it. So I asked my buddy, I'm like, dude, can you try calling it? So he calls it and it's ringing. And he's like, it's ringing. I was like, okay, well, I guess it's not destroyed. And he was like, yeah, well, we'll just have to keep trying.

[00:37:41] Anyways, long story short, after the first two bands,

[00:37:45] finally he calls it and someone picked up

[00:37:47] and he was like, yeah, Greg, I don't have a, I don't have a cool new fee saying this week for something that you don't quite understand. Give it time. Give it time. It's not over yet. Because everyone you said you didn't realize was a weird thing to say. Yeah. So give it time.

[00:39:00] Okay.

[00:39:01] All right.

[00:39:03] Um, but yeah, so lethal company.

[00:39:07] I want to pick that up.

[00:39:08] Adrian, we should I wanted to ask you about. You ever get tired of streaming Eve? Oh my God, how deep do we want to go in on Eve tonight?

[00:40:21] I don't have any, I don't, I don't have anything to do, but then I go and talk to my guys like,

[00:41:42] well, I gotta do this thing. I gotta do that thing. I gotta do this thing.

[00:41:44] It's a second job essentially. Yeah, Eve, I don't know. I know like I put like Eve on this pedestal all of a sudden, but then I'm going knock

[00:43:01] her right fucking flats down.

[00:43:05] So another big thing about Eve is just like all the scams and all the scandals that go

[00:43:08] along with Eve. like whenever I hear about it, it's like, oh yeah, this 30-day-long in-game war has been going on between these two groups of people and you have a certain amount on the clock, day-round, trying to make sure that this particular thing does or doesn't happen and stuff like stuff. Like it really is so interesting. I feel like you'd be a good shyster on something like this. How dare you? What are you talking about? I've never swindled a person in my life. What are you saying?

[00:45:40] Bullshit. Bullshit.

[00:45:42] What?

[00:45:43] Yeah. We were just talking about before this podcast started how you are the master gas So do you want to go into my story? Do you want to go into like the big, scary story about the one guy? I like, I know what happened with me, but I only know like the corners of what the other guy did. He posted a YouTube video and me and the people that I talked to, my discords, like we talked about, like we shared what we know about what happens. But, um, I can, here, I'll go into my story.

[00:47:02] Um, because I feel like, like that, wormholes that's very, like you can make a lot of money and it's very dangerous, but we were able to set up our own little corner of space. My buddy, he was getting bored of living inside the wormhole for whatever reason, he wanted bigger fish to fry, so he joins another alliance, and he and this other guy

[00:48:24] that he was friends with, they made this alliance

[00:48:26] and they were going to go and do some crazy shit

[00:48:28] in the game. currency with real world money. How much is it worth? So like 20, so about two and a half billion isk is about $20, Americans like $25 Canadian. So the structure that he sold for my buddy, so the structures he sold for my buddy added up to be in about $200 American.

[00:49:42] Jeez.

[00:49:43] Oh my God.

[00:49:44] So my buddies and I who get me into the wormhole? Like, I like, we all these cool things we want to do. We got help, like our little corporation like 20 dudes. Can you really like can you help us out and I would either leave them on on read or like, Hey, I'm busy with my kids. Or hey, talk to this other guy. And my two children start. Yeah, exactly. Right. How dare you. And so my other friends who they don't have children,

[00:51:02] they're they kept on be like, Yeah, give us give us about 100

[00:51:05] million ask. And then we'll, I would, I would immediately like go find my way back into my wormhole and do more grinding in order to like raise more money. Um,

[00:52:21] dual life.

[00:52:23] Yeah. It was, it was kind of, it was crazy. And, um,

[00:53:22] your structure is just being shot. You're under attack.

[00:53:23] Yeah, you're under attack.

[00:53:25] And then he sent me a message.

[00:53:27] I have probably 120 screenshots on my phone

[00:53:32] of all the messages that me and the five other guys

[00:53:36] were sending back and forth, just documenting everything.

[00:53:39] And the guy, he was freaking the fuck out

[00:53:41] because this was his, he has a little tiny corporation,

[00:53:44] like 10 or 15 dudes.

[00:53:47] So this was going to be, so the guy, he's like, he got all panicked. He's like, oh shit, I can't be on my computer right now. So the guy who scammed my buddy, he was like, give me your login information so I can go in there and try and find a way in. And guess what, my buddy, the guy did. No.

[00:55:00] He gave his fucking login information

[00:55:02] to this fucking scammer.

[00:55:05] No.

[00:55:06] Yeah.

[00:56:01] And then he messaged me again, he's like, I can't get in, you gotta man the guns,

[00:56:03] you gotta defend your structure.

[00:56:05] And then we pretended to get my spaceship shots.

[00:56:10] And then if you die in a wormhole,

[00:56:12] you get sent back to normal space.

[00:56:15] So I showed him my death, I'm like, man, they killed me,

[00:56:18] I can't do anything now.

[00:56:22] The guy, he's having a conniption, he's panicking.

[00:56:26] I don't know if he was being legitimate, worried about me, Really do that discreetly then As long as as long as he's not able to get inside the wormhole you can do it very discreetly But every single every single time a timer goes up you have to start shooting And then the last day so just if Like finish this up on the very last day

[00:57:40] That we that we were going to blow up the structures

[00:57:43] I logged on and I streams the entire thing that of us

[00:58:46] Yeah, this is that's I understand now the the appeal of watching the drama and shit of this that is

[00:58:52] So in-depth and like so complex. There's so many moving parts

[00:58:54] like I'm I'm totally like speechless. That's that's like one of the craziest things I've ever heard. I

[00:59:00] Also feel like Greg you could probably pull that off too

[01:00:05] We know everything they're doing so we so for the last week and a half we've been like

[01:00:07] Kind of bullying him

[01:00:16] And he is him and his buddies are super duper man and they don't know how we keep on

[01:00:21] Finding a way into their little wormhole like that the maze to get inside the wormhole So it's it's been pretty funny to be the bad guy for like the first time and you were appalled he deserves it

[01:01:22] What the fuck you said? Yeah, I just don't like them.

[01:01:24] Where the hell did that come from?

[01:01:26] Of my own goddamn business.

[01:01:29] I actually was looking, I was like looking to get some water and my head snapped back to the screen that I can't see your face on anyways.

[01:01:37] Sorry, let me specify male auras.

[01:01:40] There you go.

[01:01:42] Yeah, there.

[01:01:44] Because I was thinking of the male auras.

[01:01:46] Yeah, they kind of get shoehorned into doing one thing. Yeah. You're like, I really want to play this game. And then you play it. And then your view count goes, like your viewership, just like plummets. Because people are like, that's not what we want to watch you play. But you're like, but this is what I want to play.

[01:03:02] Oh, yeah, 100%.

[01:03:04] The Eve community, they're very much like it's feast or famine. Either you're doing everything all at once or your story, your story, they're just staying there and doing whatever. But yeah, that was like the thing too. When I, when I was setting up art, which account and stuff, I was like, well, like, what are

[01:04:24] we going to like, are we just going to stream random who's trying to do variety, I, you definitely needs to be hitting the hot games and the games that people are talking about. And you have to be doing it cross-platform. Yeah. Like lethal company. Being a variety streamer feels like a luxury that you earn.

[01:05:40] Yes.

[01:05:41] Yeah.

[01:05:41] Otherwise you have to just choose your niche

[01:05:43] or find your niche rather, I should say.

[01:05:45] Yeah.

[01:05:46] Yeah, I wish, you know, almost like, and slowly transition, either if you stick with one game, and then slowly transition into variety, so it's like getting people acclimatized to it and used to it, because we're humans hate change. And then being like, no guys, it's okay, we're gonna have like variety stream, but we're gonna keep it.

[01:07:03] Yeah, like we're playing Eve today,

[01:07:05] but tomorrow we're gonna play Mario Wonder.

[01:07:07] Yeah. It's no big deal. I mean, it has been too, too bad. No, but I also like, I think that it's sort of like comparing, I mean, I don't know, not to, but it's a little like comparing apples and oranges because everybody on Twitter, not everybody, like 99.9% of people on Twitch are playing games. Whereas like, you can say as a podcast, we are one topic, we're gaming for the most,

[01:08:23] like, you know, we bring up other things, but we are a gaming. Like the game at like a nine lives and by the time we finally were able to pull our Bootstraps up hard enough. We've we finished that level with 30 lives left Shit Man, the game is so good Yeah, I my expectations were

[01:09:40] Low like I haven't played a Mario game like in like a current Mario game in probably years and that was a blast

[01:10:46] Super Mario Brothers. I think it wasn't the one with the cat suits, was it? No, I wasn't that one. Okay. Or maybe it was.

[01:10:52] Maybe you could only one I played. Yeah, that's like, for

[01:10:57] me, like the hierarchy of Mario games is like, Super Mario

[01:11:01] World for Super, Super Nintendo is like the best. And then it's

[01:12:02] Uh, you're welcome to come back anytime.

[01:12:05] Uh, once again, please plug and promote everything that you're doing right now.

[01:12:06] Yeah.

[01:12:09] Um, I stream a lot on Twitch.

[01:12:13] I stream mostly Eve online against my will and against my judgments.

[01:12:16] Um, I'm, I'm a terrible human being in Eve. Apparently, uh, I stream, um, my challenge called shad's watch.

[01:12:21] S C H a D S Q U A T C H.

[01:12:24] I did perfectly the first time.

[01:12:26] Um, I also enjoy playing horror games on Fridays and I do a little
