00:00 --> 01:41 When STEM research goes bad. Evil within one and two today on. Guys, welcome at one and all. Everybody. Back to this very special. It's not. It's not special. It's only special because it's the Halloween episode. Happy Halloween. It is actually October 31st right now, as we speak in this very moment, the Mariners are in the World Series. I just cursed us. No, this is. This is actually happening a little bit earlier on, but we're. We're doing this for October because we're all going to be celebrating Halloween together with our loved ones and family. So we are kind of getting ahead of ourselves. But instead, Sinister and I decided to talk about a game that is near and dear to both of our hearts that we both played. That is. It's kind of. It's. It's not a hidden gem because it's. It was very popular when it was released, I'm sure. But it's a survival game that we don't hear a lot of people talking about, but it was. It is in within the vein of the Silent Hills and the Resident Evils in all those ones because it is actually created by the man who created the series of Resident Evil. But before I go too deep into the game, I am not alone. Of course not. I am here with my good, good buddy, Sinistar. We are talking about Evil Within. Sinistar, how are you on this wonderful Hallows Eve?
01:42 --> 01:50 You know, the trick or treaters are insane. We decided to give out full candy bars. It's craziness at our house.
01:51 --> 01:53 Yeah, you're the full bar house.
01:54 --> 01:55 Yeah.
01:55 --> 01:57 You'll be talked about amongst the whole village.
01:57 --> 02:03 Yeah, no, I'm excited to be here and I'm excited to talk about this game. It is a great game. Or great. We're talking about both.
02:03 --> 02:44 So both games. Yes, and both, of course, since Star and I are both in costume, we are dressed as podcasters because we sure aren't real podcasters in real life. But we're gonna do our best to try to limp through this one today. But we do appreciate everybody stopping by. So Evil Within. Evil Within Thin is. It's a horror survivor game that was developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda, I think in 2014. Something like that. Somewhere around that time frame. So it's still relatively recent. I mean, it's what, 11 years old at this point? Does that make it retro? Probably not. Released on the PS4 and the Xbox One. I actually have both these games.
02:44 --> 02:45 Yeah.
02:45 --> 03:21 For the Xbox One. I. I believe I started playing this when I Started streaming. This was one of the first games that I streamed like, effectively before I got into my, my retro and my RPG stuff. I wanted to play some horror games because, well, they're scary and they get good reactions when you play them, which is what we're doing now as we speak over at the Charm Channel. But this game not only is. Got some really good jump scares and some good stuff in it, but it's actually an incredibly well written game. What is your experiences playing this game?
03:21 --> 03:36 Yeah, I. So much like you. I actually, I, I streamed this as well. I streamed the first one. I kind of went on a, on a, A horror bender. You know, we had, we had one of our other favorites, Dead Space. I did Dead Space 1 and 2.
03:36 --> 03:37 Oh, yeah.
03:37 --> 03:47 I did the Eternal Darkness game three times. Did I ever finish Outlast? I don't think I ever finished Outlast. I think I noped the fuck out of Outlast.
03:47 --> 03:56 I think. Didn't you get. There's a, there's a running story about you getting scared, playing Outlast by unfortunate people and then you never went back to it after that.
03:56 --> 03:57 On another Halloween, in fact.
03:58 --> 04:02 Yeah, it's fantastic. So you're going to play it after we're done with this episode, right?
04:02 --> 04:04 Yeah, it's right here. It's right here.
04:04 --> 04:04 That's.
04:04 --> 04:06 That's totally Outlast.
04:06 --> 04:08 That's the precursor to Outlast.
04:08 --> 04:10 That's not Hexen. That's Outlast.
04:10 --> 04:11 That's Outlast.
04:12 --> 04:49 No. And then I played this. I played the first one and my impression of this is it has some of the coolest. And we'll get into this, but it has some of the coolest, like, chase scenes that are. I'm going to call them QuickTime Event Light. Right. Because like, yeah, there's moments where like, you've got to dodge the right way or you've got to, you know, Etc. So, yeah, no, this thing, it has and, and genuinely terrifying visceral. Like the, the, the visuals in this are.
04:49 --> 04:54 I mean, the COVID of the dude is. Is the main character wrapped in barbed wire on his face.
04:54 --> 04:56 Yeah. So we're not Harry Rammstein.
04:57 --> 05:55 Yeah. This is not a, you know, an easy, easy, easy listening kind of game. This, this one's got. This definitely got some roughness to it. Both of them do, as a matter of fact. But of course we'll, we'll cover one. I beaten both of these games. I know that you finished the first one and, and recently played it, but still, story is very convoluted. So we'll try our best to kind of limp through it as we play it. And then I know you. You kind of noped out on. On Evil within two, which is not. Which is not. Not unheard of. A lot of people kind of Evil within two, I think was missing some of the aspects that Evil within one had. I don't think it's a bad game. I like People within two, but I can definitely play it and see there's some aspects that evil within 1 had that were better than evil within 2. I wish they just kind of polished up the Evil within one and kept doing what they were doing with it, but. Story's a little out there, but both stories are actually extremely out here. This. This game involves dreams, essentially.
05:55 --> 05:56 Yeah.
05:57 --> 06:33 Which was a really cool landscape to design. You play as. As a detective. Sebastian Calistan Stalin, Calistello, something. Whatever. Something like that. Sebastian C. Sebastian C. Yeah. He. He's a copy. He's get. He gets called to a hospital that has basically a mass murdering that's going on inside the hospital. And then while you're like detectiving like you do, you get conked out on the head and then you wake up in this nightmare. Hellscape, basically is how it turns.
06:33 --> 06:39 Yeah. And you get like. I think when you get conked out is the first time you see the hooded figure.
06:39 --> 06:40 Yep.
06:40 --> 06:48 And that was like. That was one of those moments where it was almost like. That was terrifying too. Like, that hooded figure was like, cool as hell.
06:48 --> 07:06 Yeah. And then you're. You wake up in some place and you're trying to navigate. Like, it looks like a. Honestly, it looks like a Resident Evil 4 village. For the first part of it. Dudes with chainsaws chasing you through hallways. Which is the time event that that sinister was talking about.
07:06 --> 07:28 Yeah, I want to talk about. Because this was one of those when of the things I. I didn't remember about it, but when I did my research and played what, an hour and change as a refresher, the game gives you multiple options, but there's really only one correct option. And so there's a lot of failure options.
07:28 --> 07:29 Yes, there is.
07:29 --> 07:47 And like that first one with the. With the chainsaw dude, like, you pick up a knife or whatever and then like you sneak up behind it. It's like, do a quick kill. Right? And I'm like, sweet, that's it. And then the dude just basically is like, why'd you stick a knife in my back? And then like just murders you.
07:47 --> 08:14 Yep. There's between both of the Games. There's a lot of these, these chase scenes. I feel like Evil Within's design is very much. There's a lot of stealth and evil within it. It is a horror survivor game. So you are limited on what you get and what you can carry. Of course you upgrade using green jelly that you find. And we're not talking about little pig, little pig, let me in. We're talking about some weird goop that the people inside this.
08:14 --> 08:15 Yeah.
08:15 --> 08:25 Dreamscape drop. And it's. It's crazy. This, this whole thing just really is over the top use of nightmare fuel. I mean.
08:25 --> 08:25 Yeah.
08:25 --> 08:26 Say it best.
08:27 --> 08:30 Lots of mirrors. Mirrors play an important part.
08:31 --> 08:31 Yep.
08:31 --> 08:32 Bugs are all over.
08:34 --> 09:12 It's crazy. Rusty. It looks very silent, hilly with the rust aspect and the old rotting metal around you and, and wood and stuff like that. But I mean this game really, really leans into the stealth aspect of don't get caught. Like run for your life. Don't get caught. You can take a few shots and take some things out. Some things you have to fight and shoot, but you can't shoot your way out of every situation you. You have. You have to sneak your way through and you can sneak up behind people and you stab them in the head and die and they'll sometimes drop you some goodies. And, and the sneaking, it's not. It's. To my opinion, it's not Metal Gear Solid level sneaking.
09:13 --> 09:14 There's no boxes to hide.
09:14 --> 09:38 There's no boxes to hide in. But there's definitely. There's definitely a challenge to it. But I, I'm not a big stealth lover. I don't love stealth type games. But this didn't, this didn't ruin it for me. It. It actually added to the, the stress level. I, I feel like this game to me was one of the. The more stressful third person shooter game or third person horror games that I had played in a while. What about you? How do you feel about that?
09:38 --> 10:21 Yeah, absolutely, because I, I am not a. I am not a stealth player. Like I noped out of Last of Us because it is so heavily stealth. Fuck the, the fucking popcorn. Whatever. Those, those screamer zombies that are like single hit kills. Right. Like. But I don't know this one, this one kind of. It. It was difficult without kind of that like hey, you get caught and you're screwed. I mean there's a couple of those, but it's, it's not the. It's not the standard. Basically like you have the option to fight your way out if the stealth didn't work. Most of the time. Right.
10:22 --> 10:37 No, there's, there's options. It doesn't. Doesn't. You're not solely based on stealthing, but your decisions will probably be better. Like, like Sinister said earlier, like, there's really only one way to do it and there's several options that are probably wrong.
10:38 --> 10:39 Yes.
10:39 --> 10:51 To get through it. The best bet is just to learn how to really sneak up and, and get some people behind you and when they're behind you. And the, the soundscape is really good. If I remember. The music's pretty decent.
10:51 --> 10:52 Yeah.
10:52 --> 11:03 But it is very much like, it's very intense. This whole game is very intense. You constantly feel like you're surrounded by stuff. You constantly feel like things are chasing you. Because they are.
11:03 --> 11:03 Yeah.
11:04 --> 11:42 And like, like you said, like, the first half of the chasing was insane. You got the chainsaw guy barreling down on you. By the way, there's probably going to be spoilers in this game. So if you had any interest in this game, go play it. It's good. I, I, I don't know what to say about the spoiler tech thing. I mean, it's been out for 10 or so years, but it's still, it's still a really good game. And go check it out. So if you don't want to get spoiled, I apologize in advance. But too bad. Got it. Because there's a lot of information about this game. So. So you wake up and you don't understand what's going on. And it turns out there's this. The white hooded, hooded dude's name is Rivic.
11:43 --> 11:43 Yeah.
11:43 --> 12:00 And he has created this machine that's called stem, which is what the opener was. Was the joke on where it's, it's basically he has created a dream world where he can, you can correct us if we're wrong. I'm looking at the Wiki. To live with his sister who died.
12:00 --> 12:00 Yeah.
12:00 --> 12:04 Like in a tragic fire death or something like that.
12:04 --> 12:05 And you get that in a flashback.
12:05 --> 12:07 And you also get to meet her later.
12:08 --> 12:08 Yeah.
12:08 --> 12:34 In this goddamn game. So. But you've been shoved into this thing and he's trying, his brain's trying to escape because it turns out, like, he's not real. He's in this thing. It's, it's a whole thing. It's so convoluted and very confusing that really, the only way to really grasp it is to finish the game. And even so you're like the just happened. Like the last fight in this game. Oh. Is absolutely insanity.
12:34 --> 12:34 Yeah.
12:34 --> 12:48 It's one of the better boss fights that I have ever done in a horror game. It is. And I thought it was. I thought it was the second one when you. When I was trying to remember it. The second one is also pretty intense. But this. This boss fight's absolutely insane. So.
12:48 --> 12:59 Yeah. Yeah, it's. Honestly, I think because there are a handful of. Of mini bosses, I guess, or bosses or whatever.
12:59 --> 13:02 Some of them like box, head, box.
13:02 --> 13:13 Okay, we're. We said spoiler already and you alluded sister. The fucking sister. God damn. That's a. That's a. That's a brutal fight.
13:13 --> 13:17 Yeah. There's a lot of running this game. There's a lot of running and hallways.
13:18 --> 13:20 And a lot of ammo starvation.
13:20 --> 13:25 Yep. Trying to navigate your way through stuff and remembering where you went.
13:25 --> 13:26 Yeah.
13:26 --> 13:29 Where you got to go back to. It's not open world.
13:30 --> 13:30 No.
13:31 --> 13:35 It's very linear. It's very much a hallway. I wouldn't say a hallway simulator. It's a third person.
13:35 --> 13:35 Yeah.
13:36 --> 13:42 It play. It plays like Silent Hill, like, except not tank mode. It's Resident Evil 4 is the best way.
13:42 --> 13:47 Each area has some paths that you can get lost on. Right.
13:47 --> 13:53 And you can explore the areas you're in and go down some rooms and open some doors and. And stuff like that, and then upgrade your.
13:53 --> 13:53 Your character.
13:53 --> 14:16 You get. You get more life. You get, you know, better weapon capacity, stronger weapon shots. All the green goo is an experience that you can level your character up with or upgrade your weapons or something like that. But it's not like you get. I mean, the weirdest thing you get is a crossbow that shoots like spiky bomb. Like, that's like the weirdest weapon you get. Otherwise, it's shotguns, handguns, things.
14:17 --> 14:26 There is a trap element. And I don't remember if you actually get to put down your own traps eventually, but there are traps in the world that you can trip.
14:27 --> 14:27 Yeah.
14:27 --> 14:43 But in most. In most of the cases, you can also, like. I know you can pick up bottles and throw them to like, you know, alert. Like, basically like, hey, over here kind of thing in the stealth aspect. And I use that to pull enemies into traps.
14:43 --> 14:44 Yep.
14:44 --> 14:45 So, yeah.
14:45 --> 15:04 Yeah, there's some. There's cool trip wires that are through the hallways that if you're. If you're running too much, which. There's a lot of that. You can easily get yourself blown up by trying to deal with something like that. So it's. It's pretty cool. There's a. There's a good balance between running your ass off and crawling through an area. Yeah, yeah, very decent.
15:05 --> 15:39 So yeah, the story, the things that we've kind of touched on. So this guy Rivik basically created this, this machine so that he could dream, he could live in his dreams and be with his sister. And then there was a corporation that came in called Mobius and because I think they'd been funding it or something and they basically found out that Rivik was misusing it and so they ended up like, they're like, well, we don't need him, we just need his brain to run this thing. And basically he becomes a brain in a jar.
15:39 --> 15:40 Right.
15:41 --> 15:59 And once he's a brain in the jar, he's now looking for a way out. And there's another, there's another character in the game that's a little bit of one of these like kind of savant characters that's like, you know, something bad's gonna happen and they like shuffle around and like mumble stuff and whatever scratch.
15:59 --> 16:00 In the back of their head.
16:00 --> 16:09 Yeah, the, the, the, the hospital upgrade area is one of the coolest areas as well. Because that nurse that talks to you.
16:10 --> 16:14 You'Re like, he's a bitch. It's just not pleasant.
16:14 --> 16:20 Are you helping me? I don't know because you. Well, you're rude as hell.
16:20 --> 16:23 The upgrade thing is a chair.
16:23 --> 16:24 Yeah.
16:24 --> 16:29 With a, like a spike thing that's got. Oh, what is it?
16:29 --> 16:30 Electrodes.
16:30 --> 16:38 Like needles. And when you, and when you upgrade your character, you like shock yourself and open up a part of your brain or something like that.
16:38 --> 16:38 Yeah.
16:38 --> 16:49 Crazy. There's a lot of, there's a lot of use. There's actually like the lobotomy tool is actually in the title here. So there's a lot of use of the lobotomy tool. You see that around?
16:49 --> 16:50 Yeah.
16:50 --> 17:19 In different areas. And it's, it's very much a psychological around game. You've got, you've got. I guess they're called the Haunted, which is the common enemies which are basically people that look like zombies that have barbed wire wrapped around their face and creepy as you got reborn Laura, who is his sister, who's got multiple limbs and long hair and she looks like the chick from the. What's that movie? The Grudge or the Ring.
17:19 --> 17:19 No, the Ring.
17:21 --> 17:34 You got the Keeper who's the big dude that has the, the safe on his head who scared me more than enough times than I can count. And then the Sadist is our chainsaw we are wielding mask wearing freak that you basically run from.
17:34 --> 17:34 Yeah.
17:34 --> 17:40 But all these, all these, this game is just designed to really keep you on your toes and really keep the pressure on.
17:40 --> 17:40 And.
17:40 --> 18:04 And both of them are designed in the same kind of aspect where really, really leans into the stress of the game. It's not. It's not like a jump scare simulator, you know, as there are jump scares in it, trust me, a lot of them, but a lot of them are designed because you are so wound up in running from things or. Or ducking and diving and dipping and dodging and ducking.
18:04 --> 18:05 Yeah.
18:05 --> 18:22 The five Ds to get away from something that it pops up next to you and it scares the living piss out of you more than. More than one time. I remember physically ducking in my chair or moving away as if it was actually going to help me.
18:22 --> 18:23 Yeah.
18:23 --> 18:34 Avoid getting hit from something. And I don't remember very many games that I had played that allowed for that kind of connection with what was going on. What was your experience with.
18:34 --> 18:58 Yeah, that's. That was mine as well. I definitely remember, like, because I. As. As I. As we talked about you and I both streamed it and I remember, like, I think I took a number of breaks during those streams with my. With my be right back screen because I'm like, I got to go breathe for a minute here.
18:58 --> 18:59 Yeah.
18:59 --> 19:05 Like, going to hit the escape key for the pause menu and I'll be. I'll be back.
19:06 --> 19:06 Yeah.
19:07 --> 19:08 Got to go clean my shorts.
19:09 --> 19:21 Yep. There's some great. Like the. When Laura. When reborn, Laura comes crawling out of stuff and she's got the multiple arms and she's chasing you in that. That what it looks like a, Like a duct system.
19:21 --> 19:21 Yeah.
19:21 --> 20:01 And there's all the fire and everything going around you. That had to be one of the most intense, like, parts of the game was trying to. To defeat her because you can't. I mean, you could shoot her a little bit, but you had to use the traps that were in that room and then another section. Like, once you. Once you'd get to the next level of the fight, you'd go into another room and it had more traps and more fire and you had to like, burn her with the trap. So you had to go. You had to go flip on the gauges to turn on the fire and. And prime the system and while she's slowly and quickly running at you and. Oh, God, that was so scary.
20:01 --> 20:07 Yeah. Very much a fight that required the use of the environment. It wasn't like, I can pull out my gun and win.
20:08 --> 20:08 Right.
20:08 --> 20:09 This was.
20:09 --> 20:19 Yeah, that's a lot of what. What evil within brings to you is. Is More than just facing down something, there's things around you that allows you, well, to progress.
20:20 --> 20:51 Another, Another. Like, I remember this is early in the game. Like, there's an area where you're trying to get to this. Like, it's almost like a drawbridge kind of thing. And the game, like, at this, it's. It's been trickling enemies at you like, so that you have this like, hey, I can defeat these enemies. I can defeat these enemies. And then all of a sudden it's like, like 30 of these enemies coming at you and you're like, what the do I do?
20:51 --> 20:53 Right? Yeah. And you're ammo starved.
20:53 --> 20:54 Yeah.
20:54 --> 21:04 And don't they remind me if I'm wrong, because you can't. You can burn the bodies when you knock them down. You can throw matches at them, which was one of the aspects. But if you don't do that, they can come back.
21:04 --> 21:04 Right.
21:06 --> 21:07 I see you, Kronos.
21:07 --> 21:07 Yeah.
21:07 --> 21:10 I see what you did there. I see you stealing from evil within for that one.
21:10 --> 21:39 And then like, yeah, that's one of those things where like that is on rails because it steers you. Because your only option is like, like, I'm just gonna keep running this this way. I'm just gonna. And then you, you know, you eventually have a cut scene where you like, jump off this bridge or whatever and. But yeah, it's one of those where you're like, I kind of love those aspects where like some games are like, you're. And you die.
21:40 --> 21:40 Right.
21:40 --> 21:46 Or there are those that you're. That are like, I'm, I'm. I'm. And then like all of a sudden it's like, oh, there's my out.
21:46 --> 22:20 Right, Right. There's a reprieve. A breath of fresh air finally hits you. Yeah, Both. Both Evil 1 and 2. And we'll get into more. I'll get into more detail on two a little bit later. They both carry that same kind of aspect where you're just like, you feel overwhelmed. You're about to throw your hands up and say, I don't know what to do here. And then all of a sudden a light shines against the D, the de machina of game, right? Where the. The God creature comes and pulls you out of whatever trouble you're in. It's. It's. It's got a lot of really cool aspects and.
22:20 --> 22:20 Yeah.
22:21 --> 23:19 And. Yeah, dude, I just. I specifically remember. I remember there's. Besides the. The keeper, the box head guy that's chasing you around that cage, that fucking rebar cage, the Area. There's a scene on. I'll never forget this. It's one of my earlier, my like first clips that I made. And I was crawling around what looked like a farm. You can hear the chainsaw guy inside, like hitting the chains and. But I was outside, I hadn't faced him yet. I was looking and exploring and there's a tower there. And as I get closer and closer to the tower, a body falls from the tower and hits right in front of you and scared the piss out of me. I swear to God, I jumped about 20ft in the air for that game. I. It was stuff like that. Those are the jump scares that happen. But you're so, so you were so tense playing this game. Like your chest hurts, your, your shoulders hurt because you're all crunched up trying to get through whatever the hell's coming at you.
23:20 --> 23:20 It's.
23:20 --> 23:21 It's something else.
23:21 --> 23:38 Yeah. Even though it was made by Shinji who did Resident Evil, like Resident Evil sometimes feels like a puzzler with some horror aspects sometimes, right?
23:39 --> 23:39 Yep.
23:39 --> 23:43 And this one is just a horror.
23:43 --> 24:12 They lean into the horror aspect very, very hard. In a good way, in a very positive way, I think. Yeah, there are a little. It's, it's puzzly, but it's more like, how do I get past this area puzzle? As opposed to take these tiles, read this story, put them in the right order. Door opens up. Like it's not Silent Hill or Resident Evil in that aspect, but there's definitely some head scratching parts on there. Like I've done this run like 400 times. What the hell am I doing wrong?
24:12 --> 24:13 Right.
24:13 --> 24:34 And you just didn't turn the corner sharp enough or. Yeah, something silly like that. So. Yeah. Do we want to talk about maybe the last, the last boss fight? I mean, we've already kind of discussed the gameplay and everything that goes through and this whole, this whole city is created. This Rubic guy has made this entire.
24:35 --> 24:40 City that, that you're traversing that first cut scene after you.
24:41 --> 24:42 Is it the earthquake in the van?
24:42 --> 24:57 Yeah. After you flee the chainsaw guy. And then you like wake up or you think you wake up and you're like it. Like you run out of the hospital and the world is in pieces. Like it's just ripped apart.
24:57 --> 25:17 Right. And now keep in mind also, you don't know that you're not. You're in a dream. So everybody's freaking the out about what's going on because your team, you have a group of people that join you that, that show up every now and then same dream state, but none of them know that they've been kidnapped and put into this machine.
25:17 --> 25:17 Right.
25:17 --> 25:20 It looks exactly the way it did when you left.
25:20 --> 25:20 Yeah.
25:20 --> 25:25 The thing. Except the world crumbling, literally collapsing around you.
25:26 --> 25:54 And then, like, one of your. One of your partners pulls up in an ambulance and says, get in. And you get in, and it's. It's. If you've seen the movie Free Guy with. With Ryan Reynolds, there's a scene at the end where, like, he's driving through the city. The city's, like, trying to collapse and crush the car he's in. And it's very much like I'm like, oh, somebody watched Free Guy, even though it came out first. Yeah.
25:54 --> 25:56 Yep. That's a good aspect.
25:57 --> 26:32 Yeah. And then that's kind of your big introduction to a character named Leslie. And I always am like, leslie, you know, in my American brain, is like, that's a female character. Leslie's a guy, and Leslie is this kind of savant character. And, like, your first introduction. And I can't remember if it's like, fall. Like, he's like, fall, fall, fall, or something. And then, like, the ambulance, like, jumps out of, like, a tunnel into, like, open air. Yeah.
26:32 --> 27:16 Leslie. Leslie kind of. It feels like he's trying to hint to you that what's going on is not real. But he is, like, as you say, a savant and. And has issue. He's got problems. Got. He's been in this. In this insane asylum he was trapped in with this rivet dude. And, you know, he's just been seeing some. So he's dealing with trauma throughout the entire game, where you're like, tell me where to go. Yeah, he's too traumatized to, like, give you the right information. He just gives you Lawnmower man slash Rain man type, like, go left right at the horse head. And you're like, what Horsehead are you talking about? Yeah, like, there's nothing that's. That helps you out through the game. You just have to kind of do your own thing.
27:16 --> 27:17 Yeah.
27:18 --> 27:34 But it's. It's crazy. Like, so, you know, you're fighting. You finally. You face down Rivet. You finally get through him. And Rivet. Rivic is trying to leave the stem machine. He wants out, and he's going to do it in Leslie's body because Leslie has the power to do the things that Rivet can do.
27:34 --> 27:34 Yeah.
27:34 --> 27:39 Better. So. And he's also, you know, corporeal.
27:39 --> 27:40 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
27:41 --> 28:01 So he's. He's trying to fight your way in and you're trying to stop him, and he turns into this creature that takes up the entire city you're in, and you're fighting. The city is falling apart while you're fighting him, and you grab, like, this art. I don't know why he was like, I'm gonna imagine rpg. Listen, if I'm making a dreamscape, I'm not putting in there that can kill me.
28:01 --> 28:04 Maybe it was Sebastian that thought about the rpg.
28:04 --> 28:27 Maybe. Maybe he's got that power. I could go for that. So. And you're. And you're. You're shooting this thing as he's, like, trying to grab you. It's like Godzilla on a. It's like King Kong fighting the planes. It's just in this totally intense fight that I. I remember fairly vividly, and I remember him crawling up something and me just trying to pummel him with RPG rockets as he's trying to get me.
28:27 --> 28:27 Yeah.
28:27 --> 28:39 And he's like, your target is the size of, like, a pea in this giant fucking body, and you have to wait until he pops his head out or something. Intense, dude. It's. It's a very intense game.
28:39 --> 28:42 It's the King Hippo fight of horror.
28:42 --> 28:46 Of horror. You're looking for the. The bandages on his stomach.
28:46 --> 28:46 Yeah.
28:47 --> 28:59 Crazy. And then, you know, once. Once you finish all that up, there's a couple dlc. Now, I didn't play the dlc, and I don't know if Sensitar played much of the DLCs either, but I know that they had, like, two or three.
28:59 --> 29:34 Of them or something real quick, the very end. Well, sorry, spoiler. If you. If you care, turn it off right now. Wait 15 seconds or something. Mute. But basically, at the very end, you wake up, you realize you've been in this machine and as you like, are exiting the hospital, or you're looking out the window of the hospital, you see Leslie walking off and not doing the shuffle that Leslie does. And it just leaves it at that. It doesn't explain. It doesn't say this transition happened. Yeah.
29:34 --> 30:26 Anyway, well, yeah, there's. It looks like there's two DLC where you play as Kidman, who's also part of the second game. And then I think Tatiana Gutierrez, I think, is another one of the US and there's. It shows kind of like their aspect on their side of. Of the other thing that they're doing, but it's kind of trying to build on what Evil Within 2 is. Because even when you're done with Evil Within 1, and you don't see Leslie doing the shuffle. He looks more normal than he should look. Evil within 2 does not follow that story. It completely goes completely different. So I think it's like. I want to say it's like five years after the first one that this one was released. You can quote me if I'm wrong. I'm not sure if it's five years or, like, eight years or something like that. This game came out. It came out three years later. The game came out in 2017.
30:26 --> 30:27 Okay.
30:28 --> 32:00 Looking at the plot, three years. So it's three years to the date. So the game came out three years later. The story is three years later. After the whole thing. Sebastian has left the Crimson City police department that he works for after his haunting experience at the Beacon Hill Mental Institution to find out that basically, it opens up and your house is on fire. Like, you're running to go to your house to try to save your family that's in your house, and you find out that your. Your daughter has perished in a house fire, and your wife and you can't handle it together. They can't come to terms with it. So your wife Myra leaves you, and you turn to alcoholism to deal with your trauma. That's basically how that all goes together. So a happy story, that very happy beginning, the story. Very, very together story. Well, at the beginning of the game, Kidman, the chick that you worked with at the very beginning, approaches you, and you find out that she. You. I think you already knew this, but she works for Mobius, which is a company that's trying to get the stem machine back up and running so it can create a perfect world for everybody to live in, which that's never the case. They always want to do something kind of twisted and evil with it. But Kidman approaches you. You're drunk at a bar, and you're pissed off, obviously, and she says, your daughter Lily is still alive. And he's like, you. That's not true. She can't be. I watched her die. And he's like. She's like, no, Mobius has your kid because she has the same powers that Revic and. And Leslie had.
32:00 --> 32:00 Okay?
32:00 --> 32:18 And they're using her to run the new stem machine. She is now in the stem machine running it. They've created a city called Union, and it's starting to fall apart, and you need to go save her so that they say so that you could save your daughter. But it's a course to save the machine.
32:18 --> 32:19 Right? Right.
32:20 --> 33:17 So you. You descend into stem. And I'll probably be able to describe this One a little bit more because I, I recently watched more video on this one and I played it more recently. And you show up and there's already a team of Mobius agents that are in there that are basically getting picked off one by one. And you find out that one of the people that was helping work with this STEM process is a serial killer in this place. And he uses photography to kill people. It's insane. Like it's, it's a really cool aspect. He'll take pictures and they freeze like or they're in slow motion and then he'll do terrible things to them and they can't do anything because they're stuck in this frozen thing. So when you show up to certain areas of the game, you'll see people like blood, like shooting out of their chest and they're slowly falling over and it just keeps repeating the same thing over and over again.
33:17 --> 33:18 Yeah.
33:18 --> 34:10 And that's, that's how the game basically leads you into Union, this new area. It's crazy. And then he keeps kind of stalking you and hunting you. And then you get into an area and there's, there's two points of this game that I'll. I'll talk about that I. Or two spots of this game that I absolutely loved about this game is you'll come in and you'll walk into this room and there's a big wall or a big glass wall and there's a door. And you open the door and then all of a sudden he's there with a camera. He takes your picture and the flash hits and then it's a wall. There's nothing there. And you turn around and you see something. A little thing on the wall behind you. So you approach it. I think it's glass, okay. And you pick it up and it's the picture he took of you. And you're like, what the hell is this? And then you see it's a two way mirror or something.
34:10 --> 34:11 Okay.
34:11 --> 34:15 And you see this crazy fucking creature. It looks alike. It looks like Laura reborn.
34:15 --> 34:16 Yeah.
34:16 --> 35:13 With black scraggly long hair. Her body is made of other bodies and a buzz saw on her hand. She smashes through the glass and you book it and it's the running, the running thing again, right? So you're running from her, you hear her cackling behind you. It is terrifying. Absolutely horrifying. And you're jumping boxes and turn, trying to turn corners and try to get through this thing. And then you fight your way through a door and then you crawl through the duct and you get away from her. But she keeps coming back like she's a reoccurring nightmare that appears in this thing. And then you get into the town of Union and there's all these people that are like shriveled up, kind of creepy looking demon folk, but they were like once human, but they're obviously emaciated and. And yeah, so they're not right. There's things not right with them. And you find there's a few Mobius agents that are out there that are like technicians that are hiding in garages and they're like, I'm not fighters, man. I'm just here doing, you know, I'm trying to fix this problem.
35:15 --> 35:16 I'm just on the clock here.
35:16 --> 35:20 Yeah. And I'm supposed to go home like 20 minutes ago, I want my dinner, you know, that kind of thing.
35:20 --> 35:22 But I was three days from retirement.
35:22 --> 35:44 Yeah, yeah. It's all those guys that were very much. I'm getting tool for people. They're all Danny Glover. And you know, you get your save points in a lot of the Mobius setup camps where you go in and they made it kind of an open world aspect in Union where you can explore more of it. It's still. It's not a sandbox per se, but it's. It's a bordered sandbox. Does that make sense?
35:44 --> 35:45 Yeah, yeah.
35:45 --> 36:00 It's smaller, but you can go around and pick up upgrades and. And the goop is still there. You're still using the green goop to upgrade. The mirrors are still there, but you go to where you would go to the hospital instead. You go back to Crimson City Police Department.
36:00 --> 36:00 Okay.
36:00 --> 36:02 And that's your safe house.
36:02 --> 36:02 Yeah.
36:02 --> 36:33 And the nurse is still there because there's a chair in the back corner of the police department. And you walk in and she's like, oh, I haven't seen you in a long time. And he's like, what the are you still doing here? Yeah, he goes, you know, doing my thing. And she's still a to you the whole time. Yeah, but so it's still the sneak around. It's still trying to take some of the creatures out. The creatures look a lot more. They're a lot more creaturey. Okay, that makes sense. Instead of like zombie esque, they're very much more distorted human kind of look thing.
36:33 --> 36:33 Yeah.
36:33 --> 36:50 And there's one more scene that I. I absolutely adore about this game. You find out push comes to shove, you find out that your wife Myra is also in there trying to save your daughter and she's using her Abilities to. To alter the reality that's in there and all this stuff.
36:50 --> 36:50 Yeah.
36:50 --> 36:59 And she ends up going crazy and she tries to protect her daughter from everyone. That includes you. She turns out to be kind of the antagonist at the end.
36:59 --> 36:59 Okay.
36:59 --> 37:49 Unintentionally, you know, this is the thing with that. And they keep trying to hit you with like your alcoholism and keep trying to say, your daughter's dead. She's not really here. What are you doing here? And all this stuff. And you go to. I want to say it's a hospital looking area. And obviously, you know, Sebastian looks different. He's dressed different, he's got a different suit than he's wandering around. And you approach a mirror and it's in this hospital. And the mirror has him looking like he does in the first game. So it's the outfit he wore in the first. Okay, got the revolver. He's got the whole nine yard. And as you approach it, you. You go up to like, touch the glass to be like, what the fuck is this? And the glass breaks through and it's that fucking hacksaw bitch. Just jumps completely. Don't expect it. It is an absolute jump scare that I to this day will never forget.
37:50 --> 37:57 I'm having. Sorry, I'm having horror visions of. Did you ever watch the Disney movie the Black Hole?
37:59 --> 38:00 I want to say that I have, but I don't.
38:00 --> 38:12 It came out in the late 70s or early 80s. This was when Disney was like, we're gonna make, like, movies for young adults, but we're gonna actually, like, have adult concepts in it.
38:12 --> 38:13 Okay.
38:13 --> 38:27 There's. There's a robot in it that, like, has a hand that's got a fucking saw blade on it. And like, I was terrified of this thing as a kid, so I'm picturing. Picturing goddamn Maximilian. That's the name of the bot. That's the name of the robot.
38:27 --> 38:35 Oh, God, is that. I wonder if that's the thing that I've literally. I watched when I was a kid and I. And I've been trying to remember what it is forever.
38:35 --> 38:40 It's this red robot with like, like a glowing eye.
38:40 --> 38:42 Like, okay, I gotta look that up.
38:42 --> 38:43 Yeah.
38:43 --> 38:49 I've literally been trying to remember. I thought it was. You're gonna make. You're gonna make fun of me, but I thought it was a Teddy Repskin thing.
38:49 --> 38:49 Oh.
38:50 --> 38:54 But I don't. I've got older friends. I need to start asking them these questions because I don't remember.
38:54 --> 38:57 Well, look up, look up. Maximilian.
38:57 --> 38:57 Maximilian.
38:57 --> 38:59 Okay, I'll check anyway.
38:59 --> 39:30 So, so yeah, so there's, there's like a bunch of different characters in this game that are, that turn out to be problems. Instead of helping, like they're going to help but the, the area around them makes them kind of go crazy and you have to fight them off to like progress throughout the game. But I remember the serial killer and I can't remember his name off the top of my head of who he is. Let's see here. Mysterious photographer, supernatural powers. That's the dude. Think his name is Stefano.
39:31 --> 39:31 Okay.
39:31 --> 40:10 I think is the dude. Yeah. Stefano reveals that he originally kidnapped Lily under the orders from another party, but decided to keep her for himself to exploit her powers as the core. So everybody's using his daughter to be able to use their, her powers to exploit their own powers. And this guy, this guy's creating these landscapes and like there's a manor that you have to go find them in. And it is just. It's a terrifying game. It's, it's, it's really up there on, on the high stress level just as it was in the first one. The first one was kind of a left fielder. But the second one, again, not great. It's not. Although it did get a Metacritic score I think of 87. 82 or 87.
40:10 --> 40:11 Okay. Okay.
40:12 --> 40:34 82 for Xbox. PS4 only got a 76 and PC got an 80. So. But that's still, that's still relatively decent. But it wasn't super. I know a lot of fans were like, man, this game's kind of great. And you. And to your point, you said it yourself. I don't know how far you that. Not far too. But even then you were like, man, but I, I really like the, the serial killer aspect is now like lurking around every corner.
40:35 --> 40:35 Yeah.
40:35 --> 40:46 Taking your picture and if you get caught in this picture then you get stuck like frozen in time and you've got to figure out how to navigate it. There's some really cool wild that's creepy wild that happened.
40:46 --> 40:48 Yeah, that's creepy.
40:48 --> 41:02 So yeah, it's evil. With 102 is. This is a great series. And, and another. If you're really into the spooky horror genre like, like Sinistar and I and Wolf kind of are we. I think all of us would highly recommend giving this one a shot. What do you, what do you think?
41:03 --> 41:03 Absolutely.
41:03 --> 41:08 Did you replay this through all the way again? Would you even give. Even within two now knowing a little bit more.
41:08 --> 41:32 Now knowing a little bit more, especially the, the serial killer killer aspect like that. That is intriguing. For sure. Something I kind of wanted to point out. We talked about this a little bit. It's not truly a hidden gem, but, yeah, like, it's a little bit because, like, even Jake was. When we. When we said, hey, we're gonna. We're gonna talk about this. Jake's like, I don't. I don't. I don't think I've even heard of those games.
41:33 --> 41:33 Yeah.
41:33 --> 42:00 And, I mean, I know that, like, in the Horror Realm, people have probably heard of them. If you play. If you play horror games, you probably heard of it. But, yeah, like, you know, everybody's heard of, like, you know, the Fear Games. Everybody's heard of Outlast, Everybody's heard of, you know, all of those. And of course, Visage. I don't know that everybody's heard of Visage. If you haven't, that.
42:00 --> 42:02 Yeah, that's definitely up there. Yeah, we know that for a fact.
42:02 --> 42:03 We.
42:03 --> 42:05 We were forcing one of our friends to play it not too long ago.
42:06 --> 42:10 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Go. Go watch Experience.
42:10 --> 42:10 What?
42:10 --> 42:13 Go watch Mr. Merv's VODs.
42:13 --> 42:15 Yes, please. Please. Go check that guy out.
42:15 --> 42:17 Um, yeah, no, it's.
42:17 --> 42:18 It.
42:19 --> 42:30 I love the first one. I really did. Um. I don't know why I bounced off the second one. It very well could have been. And I've got an engine going on behind me. I hope it's not coming through on the mic.
42:30 --> 42:30 You're good.
42:30 --> 42:45 Um, it very well could have been fatigue because, like, I had played Dead Space one and two. I, you know, played this. I swear I'd played at some point. I played Amnesia in the middle of these.
42:47 --> 42:48 That's another good series.
42:48 --> 43:03 Oh, yeah. And so. Or maybe it was Penumbra, one of those. Anyway, I don't know that one. But I think maybe it was also kind of like, hey, I've shoehorned myself into being a horror streamer, and I'm getting a little tired.
43:03 --> 43:14 Yeah. To be honest. I mean, I think Evil within two might have had a. It had a slow burn. It felt like it. Once you got into Union, a lot of people, I feel, like, kind of fall off once you get into that.
43:14 --> 43:15 Okay.
43:15 --> 43:21 Because it's. It's very. It's so. It's. It's. It's linear with an open world.
43:22 --> 43:23 Okay. Okay.
43:23 --> 44:04 There's. There's a lot to do in the small time. There's some side quests you can do to go unlock some different weapons or some different things, save some people or do whatever you need to do. But you're also like, I want to push the story forward. Like, the Evil within did a really well, really well with pacing on the story. I felt like. I don't think there was ever a time where I was like, odd. Okay, There might have been some boss fights where I was like, this guy keeps kicking my ass. But it didn't. The pacing of the story was still very strong. The pacing, I think, of Evil within two kind of falls off when you get to the city of Union. And then eventually it picks back up and then you're. You're back up and running again and you're like, oh, this. This whole section was the hard one. It is the Carnival of Chrono Trigger.
44:04 --> 44:06 Okay, gotcha.
44:06 --> 44:18 You just gotta kind of push your way through and you can either explore the area if you want to and find all this stuff, or get the hell out of there. And there is things that chase you in the Union Town area that. That Buzz.
44:18 --> 44:19 Okay, yeah.
44:19 --> 44:44 Chases you. You've seen my opening credits of My Dream. The. The fb. Fb. Fb. It's that. That scene of me running through a diner, running away from Buzz thought Chick. So, okay, she is kind of meandering around out there. There are things that can hunt you down. And you're like, I have, like. I have a tape gun and a stick. That's. That's literally all I've got to defend myself with right now. I haven't found all this stuff yet.
44:44 --> 44:45 I'm gonna poke her eye out.
44:45 --> 44:52 Yeah, it's. It gets really kind of intense and you're just trying to navigate and grab things and then get the hell out of Dodge.
44:52 --> 44:52 Okay.
44:52 --> 44:56 Because you can't. She's one of those people you can't. You can't kill yet.
44:56 --> 45:09 So it's. It's like the. I don't remember what the name of the creature was, but in the dead space, there's that creature that you. You finally kill by turning on the shuttles. Like fucking thruster jets, right?
45:09 --> 45:12 Yep, yep. Like everything's falling apart. Rebuilding himself.
45:13 --> 45:18 Everything you throw at it, it's just like, I'm going to rebuild finally. You're like, meet shuttle jets.
45:18 --> 45:22 Yes. Meet fucking afterburner.
45:22 --> 45:22 Yeah.
45:22 --> 45:24 Meet. Meet fucking cryo tubes.
45:24 --> 45:24 Yeah.
45:25 --> 45:31 Yeah. There's, you know, when it takes, like, the last thing to get rid of it, but it's. It's very similar, if I remember right, dealing with that.
45:31 --> 45:38 That creature so very much a horror game trope. Because I've seen that. You know the. I mean, Mr. X, right?
45:38 --> 45:38 Yeah.
45:38 --> 45:42 Oh, like the unbeatable, the unbeatable threat. Right?
45:42 --> 45:47 The thing that literally follows you throughout an entire goddamn game.
45:47 --> 45:47 Yeah.
45:47 --> 45:52 But they do such a good job of it that it's not overdone like they did in three.
45:52 --> 45:52 Yeah.
45:52 --> 45:53 Nemesis.
45:53 --> 45:53 Yeah.
45:54 --> 46:12 I mean, that's. That's. That is the level of stress. I don't like being chased. I am not. My dreams and nightmares. My nightmares as. As of late. Thank you. Horror games is being chased by. So this. This game brings my. My fears to reality with, you know.
46:13 --> 46:13 Yeah.
46:13 --> 46:23 Being chased by literally everything out there trying to hide from something that is, well, more powerful than you. That's one of the things that Evil within definitely brings to the table.
46:23 --> 46:27 You don't know that it has heat vision. Yeah, right.
46:27 --> 46:34 I'm hiding behind a box and it's sitting there going, I can see you, dude. It's pretty fun.
46:34 --> 46:34 Yeah.
46:35 --> 46:40 But no, even within and even within two, these. These are very strong games. What are you. What are you gonna say?
46:40 --> 47:13 I. I was just gonna say I think. I think these are worth. If you haven't played them, I think these are worth a first visit. I. Honestly, yeah. I feel like I played an hour of the first one as part of my research to refresh my memory, and it would be cool to go back and do that, you know, with all the free time that I have. Yeah, right. You know, I'm still working on my Sisyphean game, but, you know, at least I'm further in than how. Than in Half Life with Jake. But.
47:13 --> 47:14 Yeah. No. Yeah, right.
47:14 --> 47:18 I've made it past the credits. I've made it past the credits.
47:18 --> 47:20 Yeah, you're out of the. You're out of the pool.
47:20 --> 47:21 Yeah. Because you.
47:21 --> 47:23 You know how to get out and swim through the plank.
47:23 --> 47:32 Yeah. But no, I. Maybe. Maybe this is like my. My Halloween week. I pull these back out maybe.
47:32 --> 47:35 Yeah, maybe they play great on the Steam deck. I cannot.
47:35 --> 47:37 Oh, I'm sorry. We're already on Halloween week.
47:38 --> 47:42 Yeah, I mean, well, it's Halloween weekend, so. Because Halloween.
47:42 --> 47:42 That's right.
47:42 --> 47:46 What are you thankful for? Evil within. Because that's November 1st tomorrow, right?
47:46 --> 48:05 Yeah, exactly. Exactly. Yeah. No, I. I think these are. These are well worth it. These. These. I think what I would say is, is they could easily be. At least Evil Within. One could easily be on, like, the top 10 list of horror games. Yeah.
48:05 --> 48:23 Yep. I would agree. I know we just recently did a horror list and the game was mentioned on there. I think we did it in the lightning round. It didn't make the four pillars, but it certainly is an umbrella underneath the Resident evil survivor, horror pillar that we have.
48:23 --> 48:25 There is no Umbrella Corp, though.
48:25 --> 48:33 There is no Umbrella Corp. Touche. Got you there. It's Mobius and its umbrella. Those motherfuckers are getting together, building some scary shit.
48:33 --> 48:36 That's right. That's great. Awesome.
48:36 --> 48:40 Well, is there anything else that you want to. That you'd like to wound up on there?

You can check out my friend Sinistar over at DJ Spinistar. I don't. Are you doing anything coming up here? You've, you've, you've had, you've had family in town for the last year and a half, it feels like, and they have finally decided to head back to their home. And now that you got some free time, is there any chance that we'll see some records getting dropped here in the next couple of weeks?
51:10 --> 51:28 I am trying to get back to it. So I, I generally on most Saturdays, I'm over on Solar Cake's channel, but I'm trying to get back to my channel. Um, if I do, it'll be Monday nights, mountain time. And I want to say it was awesome having the house guests. It was just a lot.
51:29 --> 51:33 Oh yeah. It's always good to have people in your house until it's not anymore.
51:33 --> 51:33 Yeah.
51:33 --> 51:39 I mean, I get it. I got family that I absolutely love coming to visit, but they also know that sometimes it's time to go home.

Sinister will be there giving me like he always does, as well as some of the other press B to cancel guys. The other guys got their own projects they're working on, I think. December 23rd or December 31st. 11:59pm Jake will finally finish up Half Life 2 so he doesn't have to do another wheel spin because that'll be three that he's had to do, I think.
52:32 --> 52:34 Yeah. And he still owes us a buck.
52:34 --> 52:50 Bubble Bundle playthrough. But we'll just. He can give a about this when he listens to this on Halloween. So being Halloween guys, have a wonderful safe night out there. You probably will be most of you listening to this on Monday, which will be November 3rd.
52:50 --> 52:50 3Rd.
52:51 --> 53:01 But if you had a safe Halloween, fantastic. If you didn't, I'm sorry to hear that. But go to S's house in Colorado. He's got full, full size candy bars. They don't give those around there.
53:01 --> 53:01 That's right.
53:02 --> 53:11 All right. If you've got nothing else to say sir. I'm good then. This has been a great and fun episode of Press B to cancel.
