March Radness returns to Press B! In a tournament of gaming champions you didn't even know you needed to listen to. This week our contest is best video game referenced in Wreck It Ralph. Does it make sense? No, but we're doing it anyway! Q-Bert vs Mortal Kombat? Road Blasters vs Street Fighter II? Or will a mystery contender appear from the ether and scoop the prize?

[00:00:00] I'm gonna rank it today on. Oh, on interest not playing. It was playing. Don't talk over the non-intro!
[00:00:11] Don't point out that the interest I'm writing. What are you talking about? I'm muted. Oh because
[00:00:17] it's on one drive. That's why it's not working. Thank you one drive. That's so great.
[00:00:22] Is all the files are there? This is not looking so bad now. In-sert music here.
[00:00:28] All right so tonight I am joined by
[00:00:58] these lovely goofballs. Jake, how you doing? I've been better. GP. I've been better.
[00:01:10] Charred? Been better. Ancestor. I am better. Oh good to hear. And today we're kicking out.
[00:01:27] We're doing a compressed March Radness this month because all those brackets last year was
[00:01:33] a bit much. We're getting too old for that shit. So we're only doing two March Radness brackets
[00:01:41] this month and this is our first one. Our first one we're doing is best game featured in the
[00:01:51] Reck at Ralph movie. Wait, did you made a movie out of that? Who came up with the idea? Me! I was a little drinking.
[00:02:00] I was a little drinking. We're not talking about best movie game reference in Reck at Ralph. No no no we're
[00:02:09] talking about this game. Game best game that happens to be referenced in the movie Reck at Ralph.
[00:02:14] It's very likely Pac-Man is going to go up against Mortal Kombat. Right as it should the brackets we
[00:02:22] don't know yet. We don't know what the randomized bracket will give us. That's why I said very likely.
[00:02:27] We might even sit around making a variance. It's a one in four camps. Yeah, Turok is the envelope.
[00:02:35] I'm giving it away. Okay, well while you brought it up Mr. Spoilers. We just got to recycle all
[00:02:43] that's because of the issues last time. Okay and the failure of the one envelope this this week I've got
[00:02:51] two mystery envelopes. Turok one and Turok two guys. If you guys disagree with the choice of the
[00:03:00] brackets because it's been randomly allocated you don't like it we can pull one of the envelopes
[00:03:04] if you like. I'm like you don't have to. You probably like the great car neck when you completely
[00:03:10] crap the bed with the Turok envelope. I thought this is it. Everybody's going to forget the hidden gem's
[00:03:17] thing. No no no we just have two things. Now it's got a less fun. We have tunnels. We have tunnels as
[00:03:28] well. We have tunnels. I'm hoping Jake didn't throw Final Fantasy 7 in one of those envelopes because
[00:03:35] of the air it lives spray painted in game central station. Like to change my vote right? Oh, I didn't that's
[00:03:41] a good one. Okay. That is a good one. I like to change my vote please. Yeah. The two games you'll
[00:03:48] never guess what games they are. I think they're there's solid picks that just didn't get
[00:03:52] that. You're talking about games with the bracket. You virtue. All right. Turok.
[00:03:59] That's a good one. All right. Shall we kick off the the first round or do we need a little more
[00:04:04] information on what we're doing? I guess we should feed the audience a little bit on what the hell
[00:04:10] would. Yeah. Okay so a lot of references in racket Ralph. We picked eight, right? Yeah and
[00:04:18] we're comparing apples to grapefruit. Like it doesn't matter. We might actually be comparing
[00:04:25] our goal to decide which of the two is better right and it'll move on to the next bracket. I don't
[00:04:32] even think it's a car that we've seen the movie so this is going to be great. It might help if
[00:04:37] we explain what the reference was in the movie. So I know every year we can definitely mention
[00:04:42] this. I did twice as a matter of fact. I watched it. Yes. Yeah. Okay. No. I didn't
[00:04:52] read the script. I didn't either. It's interesting. I watched it. We made it. I wanted to
[00:04:58] watch. Oh so there's that. It's a great movie. I love reggae Ralph and it's just couldn't
[00:05:03] give the time in this week. That's all. That's a fantastic one. And I watched it this week. It would
[00:05:06] have caused the wife to cry because she always cries at the end and yeah. You're thinking of Coco.
[00:05:12] I cry at Coco also. No that too. That's right. That's right. You're out. Yeah. She cries.
[00:05:18] I think soul hits me harder than Coco but I get it. Here I thought you were going to say
[00:05:23] you're you're thinking of cocaine. Cocaine always speaks me. Wow. You can't. They can't.
[00:05:28] Also weird. It's like we're in another hit, right? Sarah Silverman if you're watching
[00:05:33] we'd love to have you on the show. Ah! And John C. Riley. Yes. Yeah. Do you want the first
[00:05:40] brackets, Wolf? Yeah. Let's let's let's kick off with the first brackets. All right. First bracket
[00:05:45] and you're going to have to explain the references because I don't recognize all of these. For the first
[00:05:48] one is that's weird. That's the strange. Gotta go fast. It's Sonic the Hedgehog versus Road Blaster
[00:05:57] a racing game. Ah man. Okay so why do you hold on? I have to pose a question to you guys.
[00:06:05] Given the fact that these are supposed to be arcade games, right? Sure. Do we want to classify it as
[00:06:15] there's two Sonic arcade games I can think of. One of them is a trackball
[00:06:22] isometric platformer. Not that one. And the other one is Sonic the Fighters.
[00:06:28] Oh. Do we want to go with those or do we just want to go with like Sonic one? What are we doing?
[00:06:36] I'm fine with Sonic the game. One of the games is not an arcade game at all but it has a
[00:06:41] reference. Yeah. I don't think it's fair to do with the arcade versions. Like do we want to
[00:06:46] pick the best of the franchise to go in this bracket or we just start with the default first
[00:06:49] game of the franchise like Sonic one. I guess probably the default first one. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:06:55] Unless it's obvious that the characters they use are in a different entry. So the earliest
[00:07:01] entry for that. Yeah. Okay. All right so this is Sonic the Hedgehog on Genesis versus Road Blasters
[00:07:10] in the arcade. What was the reference to Road Blasters in the movie? I don't remember that part.
[00:07:15] Okay. Road Blasters was the new hotness that showed up at the arcade. Yeah it's what made
[00:07:21] the jealous that kids were going to play that instead of his game. He went and invaded that game.
[00:07:29] Bridget says Jake's audio is only coming through the left speaker. I hear you in both of my
[00:07:35] years today. Bridget also says it's trippy and I'm getting that too but I am only wearing the one
[00:07:40] headphone so Jake has bridge also says Jake has mono which is the kissing disease.
[00:07:47] Okay. There are other ways you can get sneezed on. Nobody made your mouth open. How often do you
[00:07:54] have people sneezing your mouth? Sneeze on me. Look I'm a freak fan. I don't know what else to say.
[00:08:00] Let's just keep going. All right so yeah turbo, turbo leaves. Yeah. Goes and invades Road Blasters
[00:08:09] because it's the new hotness and he's driving across the road back and forth. The Road Blaster car
[00:08:14] ends up crashing into turbo as the kids recognize him and it glitches the game out to know and so both
[00:08:21] games get removed from the arcade. Yes Road Blasters is amazing. If we are talking I'll go first since
[00:08:29] where we're all ready. We're ready, ready, ready to go. Jake did this on purpose because he knows
[00:08:34] how much I love Sonic and I mentioned Road Blasters as being one of my favorites so it's okay.
[00:08:39] I see through your veil of deceit. I'm going to go with Road Blasters on this one because Road Blasters
[00:08:46] was a childhood favorite of mine for those you don't know Road Blasters is basically like
[00:08:52] it's like night writer, it's like California or cruising. You get the third person view over the car
[00:08:57] and the steering wheel and you can have a shift if you want to do whatever but also has guns
[00:09:02] and rockets so it's like Spy Hunter in that sense and you're driving the car and you got a pedal
[00:09:09] yet a pedal you could use it to accelerate and break and all that stuff but it wasn't sit down.
[00:09:14] It was a stand-up game so you had to lean into it while you were doing it. It made you get
[00:09:19] probably where most of the schooliosis came from from my generation but Road Blasters is
[00:09:25] was a great addition to the arcade circuit. I loved Road Blasters, I would pick that one definitely
[00:09:32] over Sonic at this point. I'm going to make my vote simple and just say I second your opinion.
[00:09:40] Cheers. I am going to go Sonic for two reasons that are completely not related to Sonic. One
[00:09:46] charred love Sonic but is you know Sonic deserves a lease one vote but mostly the the local skating
[00:09:53] rink where I grew up had Road Blasters and like he was saying it's a stand-up thing with the pedal
[00:09:59] and if you've ever tried to play that whilst wearing roller skates. Like you said you got to
[00:10:05] like put some foot behind it and you got a Road Blaster. My tailbone is not
[00:10:13] fully old. GP with turbo. GP with turbo. He did go turbo. He went turbo backwards from the game
[00:10:23] and I had to wear a cast around my hips and nobody would sign it and Sonic it is due to no
[00:10:31] faults of Sonics. You know what's the worst for me first off? Is my audio sound correct now,
[00:10:36] Bridget? Thank you for pointing that out. Hopefully it sounds hopefully not mono anymore.
[00:10:41] Let me let me know. So much justice.
[00:10:43] Learn how to bear my ear.
[00:10:48] You know just everybody's punching down on Jake's fucking weeks. I was just going to share a
[00:10:56] story with you assholes okay but I was a kid. I remember my cousin broke his arm and I got
[00:11:01] the sign as cast and you know what he did? He washed it off. Oh shit that's the heartbreaking
[00:11:08] tale of Jake's cousin didn't love him. Did you say that you don't keep punching down? That's okay.
[00:11:15] I need a better chance. I'm gonna go home. It's okay. We are home.
[00:11:20] You'll never know the games are written on those letters to nobody, nobody will ever know.
[00:11:24] All right so we have two for Road Blasters one for Sonic. Yeah Jake what's your vote?
[00:11:32] Sorry oh now I'm loud. Geez okay. We just had him getting aggressive.
[00:11:37] I don't know if he's going to get live guys. It's 200 we're almost at 200.
[00:11:42] We'll figure it out we'll figure it out of 400. Remember when you came from 400.
[00:11:47] Sure it will be better. I think I should be okay now but I'm gonna lower just a tad bit more.
[00:11:52] I'm just in trouble and think yelling is all. There's that too. I don't normally yell at you guys.
[00:11:57] I'm normally angry when he started. But he's Canadian so he has the calmest yelling ever.
[00:12:05] It's true. Jake's got four more children that he was unaware of.
[00:12:10] Also while he's suggesting I'll tell you this my wife watched our last episode about
[00:12:16] Balotro because she's addicted to it as well. This is a quick story while Jake's figuring out his audio.
[00:12:21] She started telling me she goes, I love everything you guys do but Jake's voice is like top tier
[00:12:29] podcasting perfection. So all week when I'm like, hun can I tell you something? She'll say yes
[00:12:34] but have Jake do it. It's been getting to me all the time anyway.
[00:12:41] Listening to Jake talk is like having caramel poured into your ear. It's very it's very
[00:12:47] soft. Are you gonna make me blush? I'm gonna wish that I threw it out.
[00:12:51] Any any sounds especially good on his penis. Say it slower but say it lower.
[00:12:58] Slow and low that's the tempo. Okay. Okay. Why are you guys wait? You guys are voting road blasters
[00:13:04] over Sonic 1. I was wasn't paying attention. Why are you doing that?
[00:13:07] Two road blasters. It's a good game because I like that game. Yeah.
[00:13:11] Over Sonic the hedgehog. Are you nuts? Over Sonic 1? Yes.
[00:13:15] It's not okay to have opinions apparently. Okay. Sonic 1 is really better than road blaster.
[00:13:24] I don't even think you guys have played road blasters for more than 10 minutes. There's
[00:13:28] no way you've played it for that long. I only wait 10 minutes. The only reason I played
[00:13:34] Sonic longer is because it cost me less money. Well, there's a bundle game. Yeah. I know.
[00:13:40] There's no conversation. There's no way. Which game is better? Not which cameo is better?
[00:13:44] Yeah, it's which. Sonic 1 is way better than road blasters. What does road blasters bring to the
[00:13:48] table? A shitty game gun mechanic and what that's it right? Sonic you go fast. You power up. You have
[00:13:56] or botnic. What do you have? Who's the villain in your road blaster? Party base. Other cars.
[00:14:01] A lot of party base. Other cars traffic traffic traffic. I vote driving your fucking 1987 Toyota
[00:14:10] Supra with a cannon mounted on the side of it. It's pretty hot. Yeah. And again,
[00:14:17] coach my hashtag. Coupe. If this was road blasters versus road rash, it'd be a different
[00:14:25] argument. But when it's going to put up against when the randomizer gave it Sonic 1,
[00:14:30] I don't see how we can't vote for Sonic 1. Sonic once my vote. Okay. We'll talk about one.
[00:14:35] See, Sonic 1 is what everybody would expect for a speed to go with because it's a retro game. I
[00:14:42] am going off the rails here. I'm going off the cusp with a non-retro game road blasters.
[00:14:48] Okay. It's very non-retro. First off, Jake. I have played road blasters for literal dozens of hours.
[00:14:56] Yes, I had that on the NES. I'm gonna fucking download that right now. I played the
[00:15:02] wrap out of it. Proplacias awesome. How many enemies are in that? It's just one car or
[00:15:08] are there different cars? It doesn't matter. Yeah. Purple's like purple mountain majesty.
[00:15:15] It's a better night right here. Are the mountains even purple? They are. They are. They aren't red.
[00:15:23] So I will say road blasters is a better game than you're giving it credit for Jake.
[00:15:29] Yeah, sure. It's a pretty good one. I spent so much time playing this as a kid. Never got
[00:15:36] mad at this the way I got mad at some other driving games in the same vein. Okay. I got this
[00:15:42] at night rider the same year. Night rider was the sexier title but road blasters was way more fun.
[00:15:48] I played the crap out of that. Night rider didn't get the same love.
[00:15:52] Um. Blasters. What? It did on this episode though. I mean it did on this podcast.
[00:15:59] How old were you when you bought night rider and you're like, this is for the sex appeal?
[00:16:04] I just mean it. You know, as an as an eight year old you see night rider. You're like,
[00:16:09] shit, yeah, you hear that. Yeah. And then you see road blasters and you're like, what is this
[00:16:16] night rider knockoff bullshit? I just like to think you're slamming two $20 bills down on top
[00:16:22] of night rider and saying that Hasselop he's everywhere. I need to see that. That's a lot of curl
[00:16:28] that fucking David has a lot for oh, let's go. Give me the off. Give me the off. I'm gonna say
[00:16:34] I confused it with night rider. You're right because I'm getting flashbacks to how bad night
[00:16:38] rider was. And I'm looking at some images now and it does look better. Road blasters.
[00:16:43] Okay. It's no full position. It's a good game. It's a good game. It's not 1942, but it's
[00:16:51] five of a 10. Is that where we're starting off the five of a 10 game?
[00:16:55] Okay. Can I finish mine? Oh, yeah. Sorry. Sorry. Yes. We have other brackets.
[00:17:00] All that said, I do have to go Sonic one on this one. I think Sonic one narrowly edges it out.
[00:17:08] And that's just because the music in Sonic one is good. Oh, yeah. And
[00:17:15] roadblocks doesn't have that same. Can I approach the bench? What? Can I approach the bench? Yeah,
[00:17:23] let's hear your honor. I need to I'm gonna sway the jury here and I'd like to I'd like to argue
[00:17:33] that though Sonic Sonic is a banger and I love Sonic. But you got to think about the driving
[00:17:41] mechanics that was used in the arcade itself was kind of cool for the time. And I think the mechanics
[00:17:47] with the steering wheel and the shooting and the control, you know, the pedal accelerator
[00:17:52] and everything gives it just that extra that extra additive outside of what Sonic provides because
[00:17:58] Sonic all around fantastic games start to finish memorable characters the whole nine, but road
[00:18:04] blasters has that that extra like mechanics that you can't get at home. Which makes it a cool
[00:18:10] arcade game. That would be I will say that's actually one of the things that takes away from it
[00:18:17] because it was a standing steering wheel game. Yeah. And it wasn't analog. It's fair. It's
[00:18:23] a steering wheel games in the arcade. If they forced you to play standing up with the fucking
[00:18:30] pedals on your feet. That's that's not realistic. What am I trying? I can't do that. I'm not that
[00:18:38] when I drive. That's why I play video games. I drive a sion. I'm always standing. There's no chairs
[00:18:44] in my car. It is a street stand. That's why commuting sucks. So yeah, I got to stick with Sonic on
[00:18:51] this one. It's time for the shooting. All right, so I'm not upset. I'm not upset at Sonic. Yeah,
[00:18:59] I'm not missing it. That's fine. That's good. All right. What other bracket?
[00:19:04] I can see I could see Jake snickering that the one that I picked was immediately ousted. So
[00:19:10] that's fine. I didn't you know, you know, that's fine. That's fine. How do you feel about
[00:19:17] taper versus Pac-Man? Taper versus Pac-Man. That's a good that's a good that's it. That's at least
[00:19:24] apples to apples on that one, I think. I want to start on this one. I don't want to be the decision
[00:19:29] maker this time. I'll be the decision maker. You go I'll go last. Okay. So I love me some
[00:19:35] root beer taper. It's a lot of fun, but I fall off it so much faster than I do Pac-Man. Pac-Man
[00:19:43] even with just the stupid like I could play that for hours and lose track of time. I have done so
[00:19:52] in public with my wife. I lost track of time. That'll be a whole other episode. The audio clip
[00:20:02] for this one. So I got I got to go Pac-Man on this one easy. Okay, I'm going next. I'm going next.
[00:20:10] So I never played root beer taper. I only played taper where I was. There was not a root beer
[00:20:15] taper. I know it's the same game. For me, I love taper. The problem is that the the scale of
[00:20:26] difficulty ramps incredibly quickly and so just like Wolf, I fall off of it really quickly. I get
[00:20:33] through one or two levels and at that point the game is so hyperactive that it's just it's a
[00:20:39] it's a quarter sucker, right? Pac-Man obviously is as well but it feels like less of a less of a
[00:20:46] degree because you can do things like hide in Pac-Man etc. And so I also am going Pac-Man.
[00:20:58] I don't think chart is going to get to be the decision maker this time. No, I don't think so.
[00:21:03] I don't think so. Okay, so in the movie of senior pattern, the the the Pac-Man ghosts are
[00:21:11] in therapy and I feel like it's on brand for me to say Pac-Man. Also, I love Pac-Man. It's everywhere.
[00:21:18] It's been 30, 40 years and the kids still love the Pac-Man. It's on our sneakers and our clothes
[00:21:24] in Jake's background. You just can't really go many places without encountering Pac-Man.
[00:21:31] I would be lying if I said it wasn't the first game I downloaded on my Nintendo Wii. So, love it.
[00:21:39] Pac-Man for me. You all want to speak up?
[00:21:46] I'm thinking about it. So I mean, guess I have the Pac-Man machine behind me.
[00:21:53] For me personally though, I always preferred mis Pac-Man over anything else.
[00:21:56] The Pac-Man. I mean, well she's got a lot of other words to prepare it.
[00:22:01] Yes. Yes. The game is also better. But anyway, yeah, I know the original Pac-Man, I got
[00:22:08] a love hate relationship with but then I'm looking at Tapper just out of remind myself. I have played Tapper.
[00:22:15] It's okay and I have some issues with Pac-Man but I don't think Tapper beats Pac-Man so for me,
[00:22:21] it's me Pac-Man. Yeah. So, it's your business? Yeah.
[00:22:27] It sounds like a full house to me. I liked the concept of Pac-Man. I'm going Pac-Man.
[00:22:34] Tapper is cool. It's fun but again, it's a quarter sucker. There's not, I mean,
[00:22:39] it's just a lot of repetition. Now, the Pac-Man's not the same. I get that. But I like the thing
[00:22:44] that I like about Kid Icarus is that the screen switch is over which you can hear me and Jake talk
[00:22:49] about a previous episode. And it's very similar to the same thing of Pac-Man where you're not confined,
[00:22:55] I mean, you're confined to the square but you can leave out one end and come out and come out
[00:22:59] on another one. And that's a high demand. Exactly. So, I... It's a tunnel. It's a tunnel you can hide in.
[00:23:07] It's a tunnel. It's a tunnel. You guys space is cool and all but tunnels?
[00:23:11] I'm a big fan of the Pac-Man run so let's go with the Pac-Man. And...
[00:23:17] Younanimous. Also, a Tapper is kind of like one of those games if I'm remembering everything
[00:23:22] correctly where... If you're therapist were to say where did your anxiety start? You could point
[00:23:27] to that and be like it's, you know, one of those things that gradually builds on. Man in kitchen.
[00:23:31] Oh yeah, Tapper. When you have to get from the top bar to the bottom bar, you are...
[00:23:37] Oh dear God, the anxiety is high. I might do a solo episode. It's just a bracket of games
[00:23:45] from my childhood that gave me anxiety and should be like, you know, the soda fountain spot from
[00:23:52] back to the future. Tapper burger time. Yeah, burger time. Oh, but burger time's so good.
[00:24:00] Burger time, you can move around and hide a little bit as well, right? First time I ever heard
[00:24:05] my mother use profanity. She was playing burger time. Anyway, not important. Not about the episode.
[00:24:09] Let's keep going. Okay.
[00:24:14] Wow, we actually agreed on something. That's amazing. That's awesome.
[00:24:20] You know, even a broken clock is right twice a day.
[00:24:24] All right. And it's at 12. 12. We got Street Fighter 2.
[00:24:29] Because the zengeef scene. What zengeef say in the movie? He's like...
[00:24:33] I crush his back. I crush his back. I crush his back. I crush his back.
[00:24:36] My thighs with like sparrows. Just because you are a bad guy does not mean you are a bad guy.
[00:24:45] And then it's versus Cuba. Absolutely bad guy.
[00:24:49] Everybody knows Cuba is developing in that game.
[00:24:55] I just want to point out though, that one of my favorite references, whatever wins,
[00:25:00] one of my favorite references is when Felix says my cuba is rusty and then proceeds to...
[00:25:09] Like, I just absolutely adore it. It's great.
[00:25:16] I like the lost and found scene which also has zengeef in it. Well, parts of him.
[00:25:21] Yeah.
[00:25:24] I do love his...
[00:25:26] He says,
[00:25:27] Roast.
[00:25:29] I don't love zengeef in this. The moment is great but if we're looking at the video games,
[00:25:33] not the reference. I think the reference description and this is great. But that's not the aim of
[00:25:37] this episode. All right. I love Street Fighter 2. Are you going? Let me go. And then I'll let you
[00:25:43] guys disagree with you. I'm going to say one thing about the Cuba arcade game. The original
[00:25:50] arcade game had a unique feature I've not seen done on any other cabinet. It's enough that I want
[00:25:56] to buy one or restore one or try and recreate it. But inside of Cuba, when you jump off the edge
[00:26:03] and you fall to your death and die, there's a knocker inside the cabinet that rashes on the inside
[00:26:08] of the cabinet and makes a hole. That is... It is the coolest thing. Yeah. It's like a robot one
[00:26:13] in real life just once. Yeah. Literally. It's like it hits from the 80s. It's like the original
[00:26:18] rumble pack. And it's not... It just wraps on the bottom of the cabinet. My cabinet's got heptics,
[00:26:24] what you got. The Libias had something to be involved in yourself. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:26:31] Yeah. The Libias knock son. Noxon. Your ability to go to heaven. It's fine.
[00:26:39] But for me, I think I think I'm going to give it to Cuba because I love Cuba. I think it's a
[00:26:42] gameplay that still holds up. It's challenging as hell and the original Street Fighter 2. The
[00:26:47] very original one is too slow. It doesn't have all the characters and it has a bunch of issues.
[00:26:53] Like the the finitive Street Fighter 2 is probably like turbo or something or the new fighters maybe.
[00:26:58] But the original Street Fighter 2 versus Cuba, I think it's Cuba. Okay. What if we were to put it
[00:27:03] against... Yeah. Cuba Alpha Turbo. I think that's the... Cuba Alpha 3. Yeah. I'm going to go second on
[00:27:16] this one as well. For kind of the same reasons that I vote for Pac-Man, I vote for
[00:27:21] Cuba as well because with Cuba, yeah, you're being chased but it's not hard to continually move around
[00:27:29] that map and avoid that quarter sucking loss. And yeah, you can fall off and the isometric joystick
[00:27:39] is a little janky sometimes and you may jump the wrong direction. But that's a little bit of part of
[00:27:44] the learning curve where in Street Fighter 2, especially if you're playing two players,
[00:27:52] two people with quarters, it's potentially two rounds and you've lost your quarter. Two rounds
[00:27:58] and you've lost your quarter. Two rounds and you've lost your quarter, right? I mean get good
[00:28:03] good scrub but with Cuba, you know, I mean sure it may take you while because you're continually
[00:28:12] having to change the same colored spaces to avoid that death but it gives you the opportunity to
[00:28:20] compete against the game, to actually play for a little while. And you have the ability to...
[00:28:25] You know, I'm thinking in particular like the snake, the coiled snake or whatever,
[00:28:30] you can get them to jump off the map if you do things right and it buys you additional time.
[00:28:35] So the game to me feels like it. It's less hungry for your quarters than say Street Fighter.
[00:28:42] Plus Street Fighter 2 absolutely proven to cheat. Okay, is it okay if I go third? Go for it.
[00:28:51] I want to counterpoint some things here at Simistar. You know, I love you to death and I owe you from
[00:28:58] the time at the place with the thing and I'll never forget it but here's the point.
[00:29:07] We quote, granted it's the movie but we quote Street Fighter as a collective much more than we've
[00:29:15] ever quoted Cuba in fact five minutes ago. I think may have actually been historically the first
[00:29:20] Cuberte quote when Simistar quoted the movie. It's a shame it wasn't on a Tuesday.
[00:29:26] Right, right, exactly. No, no, that's quoting the movie not the game.
[00:29:33] Yeah, regarding haptics in arcade cabinets, I get what you're saying and it was cool
[00:29:40] but I've also played any number of current arcade games where if it's a shooter,
[00:29:44] you pull the trigger and then the thing is going do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do.
[00:29:47] So I don't know, I can get my fill from that whatever Cuberte is fun but my heart in this case
[00:29:54] belongs to Street Fighter and Zangief as it were so there we are. Zangief Zangief is a piece of shit
[00:30:03] that game. He is a piece of shit in there. But again just because you're a bad guy.
[00:30:08] It doesn't mean you're a bad prime.
[00:30:12] Well, okay, well if you were me what do you want?
[00:30:16] You go ahead. I'll be the deciding factor on this one if I need to.
[00:30:21] There. Okay. The haptics are cool.
[00:30:24] Cuberte is a classic but I got to tell you guys I'm going on nostalgia with this one.
[00:30:31] And Street Fighter was the first game that made me want to like learn all the moves and go
[00:30:37] to my local arcade which was Sam's Town, Mr. Merv you know what I'm talking about?
[00:30:42] They had that they had that on the big screen TVs like right in the middle of
[00:30:48] of the arcade that we had there and I would spend hundreds of dollars in front of that game
[00:30:55] trying to get good and be the best guy that I could possibly be until I learned how to actually
[00:31:02] play Ryu and Ken. But Jake says it's not good because you don't get all the characters
[00:31:10] and whatever. The three of them are the boss characters originally.
[00:31:14] I get what you're saying like it would be cool to play it by some it's good to play as vague.
[00:31:18] I love vague of egg is one of my favorite characters even though he's also a piece of shit.
[00:31:24] I like to I like the concept of all like guys like playing Blanca but you know when you're young
[00:31:28] you're like I want the easiest one so you go for the chunglies and the Blancas because all you got
[00:31:32] to do is you know rapidly press the buttons or whatever. I have a lot.
[00:31:35] I have a lot of very fond memories that bring me back to my nostalgia because of Street Fighter 2
[00:31:43] from Sam's Town and from the arcades growing up so I have to go with Street Fighter just because
[00:31:50] it's spent a lot of time and money in front of that game so Street Fighter is my pick
[00:31:55] and I like the I like Zangie from the movies freaking hilarious.
[00:31:59] Yeah. All right so I am the the tiebreaker here.
[00:32:04] All right so having played both of these on an arcade cabinet in the last year.
[00:32:13] I absolutely have to go with Cubert. Wow.
[00:32:19] I expected that from Wolf. That's that's right. Street Fighter 2.
[00:32:25] I don't know something about Planet of the Arcade has not aged well.
[00:32:29] I don't know if it's just like Jake said it feels slow. I don't know what it is but
[00:32:35] I just I couldn't play it at the arcade very well whereas Cubert is you know it's the same game no
[00:32:40] matter whether you're playing it with a controller or at the arcade. You know exactly what you got to do
[00:32:45] don't jump off the edge avoid the the squiggly guys snakes whatever the hell they are slinkies I
[00:32:50] don't know and you know use the disc to your advantage get everything to be the same color. It's
[00:32:59] it's a lot of fun. It's aged better than Street Fighter 2 arcade I think and had it been a
[00:33:04] different version of Street Fighter it might have beat Cubert but based Street Fighter 2.
[00:33:09] I think Street Fighter is is not benefited by the fact that it has been sped up. It's been cleaned
[00:33:18] up over over years and Cubert is Cubert. I mean Cubert is forever you know.
[00:33:23] Wait how did you pronounce that? I thought it said Street Fighter's.
[00:33:29] Street Fighter's ladies of gentlemen. I want to share a little story about Cubert before we go
[00:33:38] to the next bracket. You guys ever have to convey like an alpha numeric code over the phone
[00:33:49] to someone so you know you can say Charlie Romeo Alpha you know all those to help you.
[00:33:58] Why Fulf was on the phone with somebody one point it was with the it was a nurse or medical
[00:34:04] practitioner I don't remember exactly what it was but she was trying to convey this information
[00:34:07] and she goes Q S in Cubert and the woman on the other end of the line just started dying.
[00:34:19] Perfection. I love it. Well done. Yeah I think like I said if this was a different Street Fighter 2
[00:34:28] version I think it could have been a different battle but I just think that Cubert is something
[00:34:32] really unique and it's not replicated and I think it holds up better. If it was Street Fighter 2
[00:34:38] terrible I think this would have been totally different. Well I'm champion championship edition
[00:34:42] or yeah yeah yeah yeah it's like not really at a fighter terminal. There's fucking got him.
[00:34:51] That sounds like Cubert takes it. Yeah of course it does. It's a close battle.
[00:34:56] She is an Terri Nax one our last one and we're going to discuss which version because it gets
[00:35:01] a little bit tricky and you also need to point out the reference to me because I don't think I
[00:35:05] remember this one. Metal Gear Solid. Okay yeah they're in the last found and he pulls up the
[00:35:12] exclamation point and it makes it sound. It is the noise. Yeah that's good. It is Mara Gear Solid.
[00:35:18] Okay and the other one is as Mortal Kombat and it's Keno so that's how he remembers this.
[00:35:25] He's in the therapy session. Yeah in the therapy session. He grips out the zombies. He's wearing
[00:35:31] that outfit though what game is that outfit from? Is it Mortal Kombat 1 or is it a different version?
[00:35:36] It's got to be a different version because it doesn't look like because he just wears like the plain
[00:35:41] white like Guy kind of looking thing in the original. The reason why we know it's Keno is because
[00:35:47] he's got the plate over his eye right the plate with the red and he reaches in and he grabs his
[00:35:52] zombies heart and pulls it out to show that you know it's what's in here that counts not how you act.
[00:35:59] So perfect. Here's something to consider though. He calls him Seward.
[00:36:05] I might have to throw, I might have to ask Jake to pull in one of those alternate cards because
[00:36:10] that isn't technically Keno. Yeah it says here it's Cyborg. Who?
[00:36:16] Oh there's a character. I know. The characters very clearly Keno from Mortal Kombat series but
[00:36:24] the credits call him Cyborg. Probably because they get qualified for a combat to be qualified into
[00:36:31] this Disney movie it is a violent game. So all right they just don't want to pay the money for it
[00:36:36] to the card in fact probably yeah midway important. I agree we should go with the card but I'm
[00:36:42] I'm relieved about this because I love both of these games and this one is very going to be difficult
[00:36:47] for me and I have to say why. The Metal Gear Solid exclamation noise, I still use like it's my
[00:36:54] text message notification noise. It's classic and identifiable and it gives me the feels every
[00:37:00] time and it never gets old however. Keno from the Mortal Kombat movie mean my family quote that
[00:37:08] constantly whenever somebody shows up she's here and the whole thing right on time and the only
[00:37:16] reason they made him I guess canonically Australian is because of the actor in that movie. Right?
[00:37:22] I just everything about Keno from the movie is perfect and then the new Mortal Kombat he was kind
[00:37:26] of the standout character and I don't know what I would have chosen so the fact that it's de-cued
[00:37:33] really helps me out so yeah yeah thank you for that. Right on time. Plus every time you hear
[00:37:40] your text message you go run and put a box over your head every time. That's what I would do. Yeah.
[00:37:47] How did you get this number? It's nice to respond to everybody okay. Bring out the cards.
[00:37:53] Jake envelopes two of my favorite games. Turok 1 and 2. Not Turok?
[00:38:03] Once then he has classic okay and the other one's not but there's fantastic games. I'm
[00:38:09] gonna randomly shuffle these games you'll never guess what they are. What the fact you can't shuffle
[00:38:14] too. It's actually good. I'm going to lose my mind. Just did and I shuffled it for the microphone so
[00:38:20] people listening at home. So confused I don't know which one's which. Oh shit he's ripping.
[00:38:28] We're seven out Mortal Kombat because Keno wasn't in it it was actually cyborg which does not
[00:38:33] make any sense. It doesn't make any sense. Circus Charlie. Oh fuck fuck me. Well that made it easy.
[00:38:41] There are several references to clowns in this movie there's one's a hobo and I'm seeing
[00:38:46] in screenshots and that looks like circus Charlie to me or these circus Harley post his career
[00:38:51] in the circus. Looks like I don't know if that qualifies because Keno looked like Keno but was not
[00:38:57] Keno. Yeah. Thank you. Thank you. That's why we have to. Yeah shuffle the remaining envelope
[00:39:08] We're gonna open it up. I'm saying we're trying to shoehorn in Circus Charlie.
[00:39:15] I thought it was fit. What about King Candy? What about King Candy? He's the clown isn't he?
[00:39:21] No, he's a king. He's a king. Spoilers hold off spoilers that was turbo.
[00:39:28] He sounds like all right. Oh what's his name? I talk like this. Yeah no he's the confetti guy.
[00:39:36] That was good. It's not Chris for Lloyd. That was good. All right. It's wall. Okay.
[00:39:42] So redd is one's a little bit more open ended but you're gonna have to work with me on this one
[00:39:45] because I have no more fucking envelopes. Okay. This one, you better get another Mario Kart.
[00:39:51] Why? Because the single the biggest part of this movie is freaking cart racing so I feel like
[00:39:57] we have not in it. What are you doing? What are you racing? Just cart racing. That's the fine
[00:40:04] the play on thing. All right. All right. All right. All right.
[00:40:08] All right. What is Rob? An arm as we are rich. Candy rush. Candy rush subbed as Mario Kart.
[00:40:16] Yeah. What? Sugar rush. Yes. No. Sugar rush. Sugar rush.
[00:40:20] Wrong. That's I mean that's Donkey Kong is not one of the options in this for the exact same
[00:40:27] reason even though reggae Ralph is Donkey Kong. What is it? No no no no he's definitely not Donkey Kong at
[00:40:32] all. These games are entirely different. They're completely separate games. I thought he was more
[00:40:36] wrong. I'm close. I'm gonna be on the middle of your area. I have to pull an executive decision on this.
[00:40:44] I'm gonna pull in two names from games that have somewhat prominent cameos in the in the movie
[00:40:51] and you guys can pick one of those to go up against Metal Gear. All right. You have secret envelopes
[00:40:56] over there. Do you know? I just have two on hand that I could think of and we're using those
[00:41:01] well pick one of those real quick. No reasoning just give us your vote and that goes against Metal Gear.
[00:41:07] All right. It's over three foot guards with usable envelopes. I'll try and bring fair honest games to
[00:41:15] this competition. You got just dismiss it. All right. So easily. Finally, let's hear your games.
[00:41:21] Paperboy or dig doc?
[00:41:22] They are. They are. They're part of game central station.
[00:41:34] Yeah. Game central station is like you're walking around in the back. Yeah. They're walking around.
[00:41:39] Both of them. You could have run a game around with his bike and dig dug is hanging out with
[00:41:47] two of the enemies I believe. And you just pulled those out of nowhere. You were just like here's two.
[00:41:52] Jake. Those are the two I can think about it. Yeah.
[00:41:54] Yeah. envelopes and I feel bad. I went to a fucking committee. We got envelopes
[00:41:59] written up is the paper blank maybe but that doesn't matter because they're just squeezing
[00:42:06] circus Charlie wherever he can. All right. So my choices dig dug or paperboy or moral combat.
[00:42:14] No, no. Metal. Paperboy or dig dug is your vote versus the winner of those goes against Metal Gear.
[00:42:20] No reason to just pick one. Dig dug dig dug paperboy.
[00:42:29] GP what was your vote? He's a paperboy. Yeah. Okay.
[00:42:34] Seeing as this dig dug one, I got to go paperboy. Yes. Good joy.
[00:42:39] So back to it. I'm going to go Metal Gear Solid. Metal Gear Solid versus paperboy.
[00:42:47] Yeah. Honestly, I hate paperboy. I hate that game. Oh, it's a great game.
[00:42:52] The best part of the game is the bonus round and you're done with it in five seconds.
[00:42:56] So it's definitely Metal Gear Solid. How can you not vote for Metal Gear Solid?
[00:42:59] Best part of paperboy is when I get run over by a car and I go walk and play a different game.
[00:43:08] I'm going to paperboy because I cannot stand Metal Gear Solid.
[00:43:12] Really? Yeah. Do you not like games?
[00:43:17] Says the man who tried to shoot or encircle Charlie into this discussion.
[00:43:23] I was wrong with Metal Gear Solid. The story? Listen, listen.
[00:43:29] First of all, listen. I don't like that I have to sneak around. I don't like it.
[00:43:35] I like the option to sneak and if I want to blow everything up when I get mad,
[00:43:40] I'm not patient enough to sneak around it off freaking box. No, thank you.
[00:43:44] I would rather ride a bike and throw my paper through people's windows. Sign me up, paperboy.
[00:43:51] I'm not a Metal Gear Solid fan. Okay. So okay. Okay. Thank you, Mr.
[00:43:58] Mr.
[00:43:58] Well, it's good. I mean, I lose and I'm fine with that. I don't care. But
[00:44:06] yeah, I
[00:44:07] Does that mean three of you already voted Metal Gear Solid? Yeah. Do we know Jakes?
[00:44:13] Yeah, Metal Gear Solid hands down. Okay.
[00:44:16] Now if we're going back to the arcade game, not the stupid NES game, paperboy in the arcade was
[00:44:22] pretty fucking cool with that steering wheel and the aiming and that was
[00:44:28] if you got that version of Paperboy it was very interesting. So I'm going to give this one to
[00:44:33] that version of Paperboy specifically. Every every version of the original Paperboy was wonderful.
[00:44:39] I think it was great, but
[00:44:42] Every version of Metal Gear. Do you remember the N64 version that we talked about in a prior
[00:44:46] episode? Because that keeps me in every port of the original Paperboy.
[00:44:50] The original, sorry. Yeah, sorry. Because there's also the right boy too that I don't think I like
[00:44:54] very much of Paperboy. I don't know that I want to make Jake feel this good, but I would rather
[00:44:58] play circus Charlie over Paperboy. You know, I'll say it's a great Paperboy game is Paperboy Alpha 3
[00:45:07] much faster. Turn him in turn him in Turbo Omega fighting edition championship. Everybody
[00:45:13] picks Chung Lee on the bike. It's just not fair. That's because you're looking at
[00:45:17] I use the Honda. She pedals faster. I use I use the Honda because I can actually move the bike
[00:45:22] while I'm using my Charlie's got the kick. She's got the lightning kicks so she pedals faster.
[00:45:27] Is it I think I prefer Super Paperfighters turbo?
[00:45:32] Is it fair to say that Hideo Kijima is the video game equivalent of him night Shyamalan?
[00:45:39] Probably yeah okay. Can we say that?
[00:45:44] From the most part. I would like it more to David Finch, right?
[00:45:50] No, because David Finch still puts out good stuff.
[00:45:53] Yeah, Shyamalan's had a lot of misses.
[00:45:56] No, no.
[00:45:57] He means David Lynch didn't make the air last airbender.
[00:46:02] Yeah, David Lynch. I was thinking Kojima is more like David Lynch.
[00:46:06] Yeah, oh and the obscure nature of him.
[00:46:09] Yeah, not not him.
[00:46:11] Not him.
[00:46:12] Not him.
[00:46:14] Not him.
[00:46:16] I like. I got one.
[00:46:17] I got one.
[00:46:18] That was amazing.
[00:46:20] I prefer Shyamalan's got so many good movies.
[00:46:22] But that's not this episode.
[00:46:24] We'll talk about that some other time.
[00:46:25] Oh, hey, there's an episode.
[00:46:29] Are we doing movies?
[00:46:30] I'm going to press B and rewind.
[00:46:32] What do you twist?
[00:46:33] In the long-term.
[00:46:34] In the long-term.
[00:46:35] In G.S. moves on.
[00:46:38] Okay, terrible game.
[00:46:40] So the envelopes did matter a damn thing with that with that bracket of all.
[00:46:43] And nobody is taking feedback and giving it.
[00:46:45] Please keep bringing envelopes though because I want to see how long it takes me to get a
[00:46:49] envelope.
[00:46:50] Yeah, every time the envelopes were pure glory.
[00:46:56] All right, gold.
[00:46:57] So we have four games or two brackets of two each because we do the eight.
[00:47:02] Last time we did it with this is for the fourth.
[00:47:06] How do we know?
[00:47:07] We just do it and then we do it lose the bracket.
[00:47:10] Yeah, they're mine.
[00:47:10] I got it.
[00:47:11] All right, so first semi-final then is Sonic 1 versus Pac-Man.
[00:47:14] That's that's a hard one.
[00:47:16] That was a hard one.
[00:47:17] Oh, it shouldn't be but it is.
[00:47:20] That was a hard one.
[00:47:21] Yeah, yeah.
[00:47:22] Sonic 1.
[00:47:23] I'm going Pac-Man.
[00:47:24] I'm going Pac-Man.
[00:47:25] You would.
[00:47:26] Is Pac-Man tournament edition?
[00:47:28] I'll quit.
[00:47:29] I just love the joke.
[00:47:31] Alpha Pac-Man, Alpha 3.
[00:47:33] It's Pac-Man Turbo solid Alpha 3 Pac-Man 99.
[00:47:38] I got I gotta go Sonic.
[00:47:40] Championship edition of Pac-Man.
[00:47:41] It's pretty good.
[00:47:42] Okay, I gotta go Sonic.
[00:47:43] That's awesome.
[00:47:46] Before you go Jake.
[00:47:48] Yeah, I want to put it in mind.
[00:47:50] I want to say Pac-Man because the analogies to real life in this game are endless.
[00:48:00] It's a poor guy running around eating pills being chased by the ghosts that terrorizes life
[00:48:07] Wow.
[00:48:07] In the dark.
[00:48:08] Try not to die in the dark.
[00:48:12] That's literally my morning.
[00:48:13] Pac-Man.
[00:48:14] Yeah, then occasionally,
[00:48:15] the one I've had on the test is sacred
[00:48:17] and they occasionally eat some fruit because of high pretension.
[00:48:20] I got it.
[00:48:23] And sometimes you just need a pretzel
[00:48:26] and when the ghosts grab you to eat yourself from the inside.
[00:48:30] Yeah, that's why I do on Sundays.
[00:48:32] Plus, the future armor reference to Pac-Man is so fucking good.
[00:48:37] Yeah, yeah, he's like the general right during the season.
[00:48:40] He's the general and then tell my wife.
[00:48:42] Tell my wife and I want.
[00:48:44] Yeah, yeah, that's why.
[00:48:45] Yeah, yeah, yeah, that is why.
[00:48:47] Yeah.
[00:48:48] Yeah.
[00:48:52] He's got it.
[00:48:53] I love it.
[00:48:54] Gosh, those are both good games.
[00:48:58] I think, I mean, I love Sonic.
[00:48:59] I love the Sonic franchise.
[00:49:00] I like Sonic one a lot.
[00:49:01] It's my first genesis game.
[00:49:02] This is for you.
[00:49:04] And then I also love Pac-Man because I have a machine behind me.
[00:49:07] I love it, but again, I don't know, that's tough.
[00:49:10] I think I'm going to go with the spirit of that movie is our Cades.
[00:49:16] So I'm going to lean toward your arcade game and go with Pac-Man.
[00:49:18] But that's very tough to choice.
[00:49:19] I love both those games.
[00:49:20] No, it's actually a valid, that's a valid.
[00:49:22] Well, out of the envelopes.
[00:49:24] Get the envelopes out.
[00:49:25] Turok, Turok, you're wrong.
[00:49:27] Yeah, Turok wins this round.
[00:49:28] It's weird.
[00:49:29] Yeah, Turok wins that.
[00:49:30] I mean, we just got to have Turok.
[00:49:31] And fever around here, press B.
[00:49:32] So I love that song.
[00:49:34] Aka-paku.
[00:49:36] Happy 30 year, that was viral.
[00:49:40] Yes.
[00:49:40] True.
[00:49:41] I wanted to buy that album so bad, but anyway,
[00:49:47] I just want something I can never have.
[00:49:48] So I understand that it's pretty heavy machine.
[00:49:50] That's pretty heavy.
[00:49:51] Yeah, there you go.
[00:49:52] Leave me alone.
[00:49:55] It took me 45 minutes to come up here.
[00:49:58] All right, Metal Gear Solid versus what?
[00:50:00] Cuber.
[00:50:01] Cuber.
[00:50:02] Oh, it's Cuber.
[00:50:03] I would pay to see that.
[00:50:04] I mean, you put snake and Cuber in a room together.
[00:50:08] We know who's going to win.
[00:50:09] What about a coil snake versus snake?
[00:50:12] What about a coil snake versus snake?
[00:50:14] Coiled snake versus snake.
[00:50:16] That's a good point.
[00:50:17] Who would win that battle?
[00:50:18] I have no vested interest in any of these fights.
[00:50:22] Okay, then I will go for Jard
[00:50:24] and he's going to go with Metal Gear,
[00:50:25] which is also what I'm going for.
[00:50:27] Okay, that's the deal.
[00:50:27] No, I'm going with Cuber because I hate Metal Gear.
[00:50:30] He's going for Cuber.
[00:50:31] No, thank you.
[00:50:32] No, no, no.
[00:50:34] Okay, Metal Gear for me obviously.
[00:50:36] Yeah, Cuber Pitchert has a knocker
[00:50:40] from Metal Gear Solid snake to knockers.
[00:50:44] Yeah, Merrill.
[00:50:46] Why say that?
[00:50:46] Yeah, right.
[00:50:50] Rollin' the tough choice.
[00:50:53] Rollin' Cuber.
[00:50:54] I'm going Cuber.
[00:50:55] Rollin' Cuber.
[00:50:57] Cuber because arcade cabinet.
[00:51:01] Well, road blasters was still in here,
[00:51:03] which is an arcade game.
[00:51:06] Lost a Sonic in arcade games.
[00:51:09] What are the votes right now?
[00:51:10] I think it's two to one for Cuber.
[00:51:12] Yeah, it's two to one.
[00:51:13] Which is ridiculous guys, come on.
[00:51:16] I haven't...
[00:51:17] Did I go...
[00:51:17] I don't know if I said yes or no.
[00:51:18] I don't know which to go with.
[00:51:19] You haven't gotten anything.
[00:51:20] You said you like knockers.
[00:51:24] Oh, I got...
[00:51:25] Can I vote for knockers?
[00:51:26] Is that an avenue?
[00:51:28] Can I pull another envelope?
[00:51:29] Can you knockers on it?
[00:51:30] Knockers.
[00:51:31] Okay, I'm going to vote.
[00:51:32] The spirit of the movie is the arcade,
[00:51:35] but also,
[00:51:36] Cuber is so easy to just pick up and play
[00:51:39] and get into
[00:51:40] and Metal Gear Solid.
[00:51:41] You kind of have to be in the mood to play.
[00:51:44] Yeah, which is never a knocker.
[00:51:45] It's so cool.
[00:51:46] It's so cool.
[00:51:46] And it's cool.
[00:51:47] And that end, Cuber and...
[00:51:48] It's an awesome logic.
[00:51:51] Cuber.
[00:51:52] The better game...
[00:51:52] D.P.
[00:51:53] You look like your son.
[00:51:54] No, I just...
[00:51:57] It's a great choice.
[00:52:00] That's a good choice.
[00:52:01] Yes.
[00:52:02] And also a choice there.
[00:52:04] I mean, it's hard to compare the voice acting, okay?
[00:52:11] You know what?
[00:52:11] I'm going to go with...
[00:52:12] I'm going to go with GPN say Metal Gear Solid.
[00:52:15] I think it's just a better game.
[00:52:16] I like Cuber a lot.
[00:52:18] I voted for last time.
[00:52:19] But I think Metal Gear is got the best story
[00:52:21] and gameplay
[00:52:23] and impact.
[00:52:24] And graphics and sound design.
[00:52:26] And everything.
[00:52:27] Okay, but...
[00:52:27] You know, it doesn't have enough tunnels.
[00:52:29] It's a hot in here.
[00:52:30] God, it's not a good choice.
[00:52:31] It's a good choice.
[00:52:32] I know.
[00:52:33] More tunnels than Cuber.
[00:52:34] Cure.
[00:52:34] Here's my thing.
[00:52:35] Here's why that was so rough for me.
[00:52:37] I base so much of my life
[00:52:39] around the concept of what would Werewolf do
[00:52:41] because he's the smartest person I know.
[00:52:43] And whenever I mean Werewolf,
[00:52:45] come down on the same side as something,
[00:52:46] I'm like, I fucked up somewhere.
[00:52:48] There's still so strongly in my heart about this one.
[00:52:50] You were going to say,
[00:52:51] I've spent so much time running around
[00:52:54] sneaking around my house in a box
[00:52:56] that, you know,
[00:52:58] that's...
[00:52:58] I thought you were going to go with Metal Gear Solid reference.
[00:53:00] They're me.
[00:53:01] They're me.
[00:53:01] You know, I just...
[00:53:05] It's so hot.
[00:53:06] It's a good choice.
[00:53:07] It's a good reference.
[00:53:09] Really?
[00:53:10] All right.
[00:53:11] All right.
[00:53:12] So we've got...
[00:53:13] So Chargjuber.
[00:53:14] Chargjvodak Cuber?
[00:53:15] I guess.
[00:53:16] Sorry, David Hader.
[00:53:17] So we've got Cuber.
[00:53:18] This is Pac-Man.
[00:53:20] Right?
[00:53:22] Hold on.
[00:53:23] What's the loser bracket?
[00:53:24] The third place bracket.
[00:53:26] So Metal Gear versus Sonic.
[00:53:29] That's actually also a shitty bracket.
[00:53:31] Oh, Sonic, it'll do your place.
[00:53:34] You know what?
[00:53:34] I'm going to go...
[00:53:35] All right.
[00:53:36] I'm going to go Metal Gear on that one.
[00:53:37] I'm going to go Metal Gear Solid.
[00:53:39] Okay.
[00:53:40] Metal Gear.
[00:53:43] That's fine.
[00:53:43] Sorry, Chargjvodak.
[00:53:45] No, that's fine.
[00:53:45] That's fine.
[00:53:46] I'll stand on this green hill zone by myself.
[00:53:52] Metal Gear.
[00:53:53] I guess this is the green hill I die on.
[00:53:55] All right.
[00:53:55] So Metal Gear takes three place.
[00:53:57] Thank you.
[00:53:58] Same with your hosts.
[00:53:58] So quick, really?
[00:54:00] You guys all on Metal Gear right away.
[00:54:02] You don't want to talk about it first.
[00:54:03] Discuss it.
[00:54:03] Like you don't like Sonic.
[00:54:05] What else is there to say?
[00:54:06] I like Sonic.
[00:54:07] I like Sonic better with games.
[00:54:08] I like to get better music.
[00:54:09] Let's get better characters.
[00:54:11] Better game.
[00:54:12] But does it have better espionage action?
[00:54:15] No.
[00:54:15] I don't have to stick around.
[00:54:16] It's not espionage.
[00:54:17] I just try and grind into shit.
[00:54:18] But the problem for Chargjvodak is tactical.
[00:54:22] He does not like.
[00:54:22] I know.
[00:54:23] I think he's you know, it's true.
[00:54:24] The base the base is too farty.
[00:54:28] You're too farty.
[00:54:29] No, never why we like it so much.
[00:54:31] All right.
[00:54:32] I think if it were like Sonic 2 against Metal Gear Solid,
[00:54:35] I'd have gone the other way but we're talking about it.
[00:54:36] It'd be a discussion.
[00:54:38] Okay, Sonic 2 versus Metal Gear 2.
[00:54:41] Yes, that one's the type of.
[00:54:42] Oh, very much.
[00:54:43] It was Metal Gear Turbo.
[00:54:45] All three then maybe maybe we'd have something.
[00:54:49] And if we're Metal Gear Rising,
[00:54:52] it's the same thing.
[00:54:54] It's Metal Gear and Sonic.
[00:54:56] Sonic 3, the Phantom and Knuckles.
[00:54:59] Phantom Knuckles.
[00:55:00] Of the Knuckles is a choice.
[00:55:03] That's a move.
[00:55:04] It's a different much more interesting.
[00:55:06] All right.
[00:55:06] We got Pac-Man versus Cubert.
[00:55:08] We need gold medal in a silver.
[00:55:11] Okay, that's your question.
[00:55:12] I'm going to go first.
[00:55:13] I haven't gone first.
[00:55:16] I'm going first.
[00:55:17] So my ranking is
[00:55:20] Cubert is the silver.
[00:55:22] Pac-Man is the gold.
[00:55:25] Pac-Man, Pac-Man is the better known game.
[00:55:29] It is the better game.
[00:55:31] I love Cubert but it is the better game.
[00:55:33] Pac-Man has influenced our lives from like day one.
[00:55:38] I have to go with Pac-Man takes gold.
[00:55:41] I'm a big fan of knockers myself but
[00:55:44] I gotta go with Pac-Man.
[00:55:48] So, two big.
[00:55:49] So, two big.
[00:55:50] All right, that's your kids.
[00:55:51] Pac-Man and Cubert.
[00:55:52] Would they even know who those characters are?
[00:55:55] Probably not because I don't have children.
[00:55:57] You want to bring in the hero talk?
[00:55:58] You want to bring in the hero talk?
[00:55:59] Yeah, let me call my kid real quick.
[00:56:01] Yeah.
[00:56:02] No.
[00:56:02] My kids would know.
[00:56:03] I'll tell you what.
[00:56:04] My kids know Pac-Man.
[00:56:05] Yeah, but I have a machine.
[00:56:06] What I'm talking about.
[00:56:07] My kids know Pac-Man.
[00:56:08] My kids know Pac-Man.
[00:56:09] Go ask your dogs, try it.
[00:56:10] My kids know Pac-Man.
[00:56:11] I would be questionable if they knew Cubert.
[00:56:15] I know.
[00:56:16] I gotta go ask you.
[00:56:16] Really?
[00:56:17] Yeah.
[00:56:18] So, he's got it.
[00:56:19] Hold on, can you guys hear him?
[00:56:21] No.
[00:56:22] Say something, kiddo.
[00:56:26] Kiddo, say something.
[00:56:29] There.
[00:56:30] Yes.
[00:56:30] OK.
[00:56:30] Got it.
[00:56:31] He's very good.
[00:56:31] I have on tell.
[00:56:32] He's very young, man.
[00:56:33] Question.
[00:56:34] Which game do you prefer Pac-Man or Cubert?
[00:56:39] Pac-Man.
[00:56:40] Done.
[00:56:41] Do you know who those are?
[00:56:42] He's coming about Metal Gear.
[00:56:47] There you go.
[00:56:49] My 10-year-old, those Pac-Man and Cubert.
[00:56:51] OK.
[00:56:52] Thank you, kiddo.
[00:56:53] He's in the right.
[00:56:54] I'll take you asking about Metal Gear.
[00:56:55] Catch you later.
[00:56:56] Yeah, ask you.
[00:56:58] What about solid?
[00:56:59] Come on.
[00:57:01] Snake.
[00:57:02] Snake.
[00:57:03] Snake.
[00:57:04] He doesn't know Metal Gear.
[00:57:08] OK.
[00:57:08] OK.
[00:57:09] I'm gonna go get my eight-year-old.
[00:57:11] Is he gold then I guess?
[00:57:12] Have him.
[00:57:13] Yeah, I gotta go Pac-Man on this one.
[00:57:16] I love me some Cubert.
[00:57:17] Yeah.
[00:57:18] The retro feels are there, but Pac-Man is just...
[00:57:24] It's a timeless game.
[00:57:26] It's Pac-Man.
[00:57:27] It's Pac-Man.
[00:57:28] Yeah.
[00:57:29] Man, he's not miss Pac-Man.
[00:57:32] No, I'm just gonna have to be miss Pac-Man.
[00:57:34] This never would have been a...
[00:57:35] Like the...
[00:57:37] Miss Pac-Man would have been an even easier decision on all these.
[00:57:40] Yeah, I love that one.
[00:57:41] Yeah.
[00:57:42] The football game.
[00:57:43] Um, right.
[00:57:45] Pac-Man, I love that.
[00:57:46] I've watched Metal Gear 3.
[00:57:47] Would Turbo would have been a good choice to...
[00:57:49] Whilst eating pizza.
[00:57:51] And here's where I'm going with this.
[00:57:54] When I think about eating pizza in my youth,
[00:57:57] what arcade cabinets were at more pizza places?
[00:57:59] And I have to go with Pac-Man,
[00:58:00] specifically the sitting down.
[00:58:02] Yeah, I'm terrible at this.
[00:58:03] Yes, the cocked...
[00:58:04] Which is one of...
[00:58:06] In my estimations, one of the best experiences
[00:58:09] in my childhood are key wise up until Mortal Kombat.
[00:58:12] Marie Calender...
[00:58:13] They're had one in their waiting room.
[00:58:15] Marie Calender's...
[00:58:17] Calender's...
[00:58:20] And there's always Pac-Man Champion tradition DX.
[00:58:24] Yeah.
[00:58:26] Which is not a joke.
[00:58:28] Is that mankind divided?
[00:58:30] No.
[00:58:31] Champion Edition is really as a solid,
[00:58:33] it's an excellent game.
[00:58:34] Like it's one of the best games on the...
[00:58:36] Was it Xbox 360 live?
[00:58:38] I think it came out originally and that game was awesome.
[00:58:40] I love that one.
[00:58:41] Pac-Man and Scames are also in the arcade.
[00:58:43] Let's just point that out.
[00:58:44] I'm happy with...
[00:58:45] Yeah, let's hit Pac-Man.
[00:58:47] Yeah.
[00:58:47] Are we done with the voting on this one?
[00:58:50] Yes.
[00:58:50] Why am I fuzzy?
[00:58:52] Not only that, but you talked pizza.
[00:58:54] And what happens when you take a slice of pizza out of a pizza?
[00:58:58] You get Pac-Man.
[00:59:00] Do you?
[00:59:01] It's that unofficial tie-in.
[00:59:03] Yeah.
[00:59:04] I think so.
[00:59:04] That I got a slice of pizza.
[00:59:07] So real quick also,
[00:59:09] Rekit Rolf, was that a real real-life game
[00:59:11] before the movie came out?
[00:59:12] I think they made...
[00:59:13] No.
[00:59:13] They made it bad.
[00:59:14] They made it bad.
[00:59:15] Right.
[00:59:16] And same with fixed Felix, right?
[00:59:18] Yeah.
[00:59:18] Yes.
[00:59:19] Okay.
[00:59:20] I could fix this.
[00:59:21] So Rekit Rolf got tie-in games that were themed after Rekit Rolf,
[00:59:25] but there was also...
[00:59:26] I think there was a sugar rush tie-in game
[00:59:28] and a fixed Felix tie-in game.
[00:59:31] Yeah, there were.
[00:59:31] Okay.
[00:59:33] I just want to make sure because if Rekit Rolf was a game
[00:59:36] that I didn't know about that existed and they made a movie out of it,
[00:59:38] clearly that would have to win the whole thing.
[00:59:40] But yeah, that's good.
[00:59:41] I gotta ask so.
[00:59:42] Okay.
[00:59:43] You guys
[00:59:44] vetoed Circus Charlie and that's fine.
[00:59:46] Because we always have a mirror of that being vetoed.
[00:59:48] I know.
[00:59:49] What if it was...
[00:59:50] It's not Mario.
[00:59:50] Halo.
[00:59:51] What if it was Halo?
[00:59:52] Halo, no.
[00:59:53] I can't hear you.
[00:59:54] It would have been...
[00:59:54] You would have been vetoed.
[00:59:56] Halo is not as...
[00:59:57] So what they were going for with the movie reference though.
[01:00:00] It's almost me with the bugs and...
[01:00:02] No.
[01:00:02] But the game was...
[01:00:04] I would say it was more work.
[01:00:05] We see it, Kept.
[01:00:06] We vetoed Keno.
[01:00:08] I mean, come on.
[01:00:09] Or start that.
[01:00:10] He wasn't there.
[01:00:11] Yeah, we were.
[01:00:12] Keno was vetoed and it was Keno.
[01:00:14] It was without question.
[01:00:15] Yeah.
[01:00:16] It was Keno.
[01:00:17] I'm all right.
[01:00:17] It was dangerous.
[01:00:18] It was a sentence which was clearly Diablo.
[01:00:20] Yeah.
[01:00:20] We don't count that either.
[01:00:22] But they called him...
[01:00:22] That was the goals and goals and ghosts of double.
[01:00:27] I also thought it would have been a tie-in to Dungeon Keeper.
[01:00:30] It could have been...
[01:00:31] It could have been but I...
[01:00:32] I thought it was Diablo personally.
[01:00:33] I thought it was more Diablo.
[01:00:34] Yeah.
[01:00:35] Okay.
[01:00:36] She's here.
[01:00:37] Anyway.
[01:00:38] I don't know.
[01:00:38] She's here.
[01:00:39] So it's Pac-Man is our gold medal.
[01:00:41] Silver goes to Cubert and bronze.
[01:00:44] It's Mel year solid, which
[01:00:46] Chard doesn't like.
[01:00:47] I learned...
[01:00:48] Oh, I mean that's...
[01:00:49] It's a weird...
[01:00:50] This is a weird...
[01:00:51] We're bragging.
[01:00:52] Yeah.
[01:00:54] Well, that was kind of the point.
[01:00:56] Is it was a long-term?
[01:00:57] It was not a long-term.
[01:00:58] That's true.
[01:00:58] I love that we never as a group
[01:01:00] agreed on Pac-Man at any point in the show
[01:01:03] until the last round.
[01:01:04] Until the very end.
[01:01:05] And then we are like,
[01:01:06] Pac-Man 100%.
[01:01:07] I'm going with that question.
[01:01:09] We were never...
[01:01:10] Yeah.
[01:01:11] Very great game.
[01:01:12] I'm on up.
[01:01:12] Yeah, this is a good game.
[01:01:13] And I will say this.
[01:01:14] I think the best version of my favorite version
[01:01:16] of Metal Gear Solid was the
[01:01:18] Twin Snakes one that they remastered
[01:01:20] and put on the game.
[01:01:20] Yeah, the GameCube one.
[01:01:22] That one was excellent.
[01:01:24] I've been looking at the Metal Gear Solid
[01:01:25] collection to give it another run
[01:01:27] but I'm not paying so much for it on Steam.
[01:01:30] Here's something said.
[01:01:32] Twin Snakes is the only Metal Gear Solid
[01:01:34] of Beaton.
[01:01:35] Oh, no you have to be serious about that.
[01:01:37] That's it.
[01:01:38] Well, this is why I have the collection.
[01:01:40] I bought this off a buddy of mine
[01:01:42] so I could play through the franchise.
[01:01:44] Two was cool but it was a different quality
[01:01:46] except for the graphics because that was on the PS2.
[01:01:49] Three refounded stride and three was good.
[01:01:52] But then you had like substance
[01:01:53] and subsistence which were superior versions
[01:01:56] of two and three.
[01:01:57] And...
[01:01:57] Yeah, thank you.
[01:01:59] Wasn't...
[01:02:00] I was in real quick, I'm sorry, Trevor.
[01:02:01] Before you...
[01:02:03] Wasn't three like the origin story of Snake?
[01:02:05] Like if you played three then...
[01:02:07] It wasn't so...
[01:02:08] I didn't think it was the Snake...
[01:02:10] The Snake Warrior is...
[01:02:11] There's a big boss.
[01:02:12] Yeah, they're remaking that, aren't they?
[01:02:16] And then remake coming up for three?
[01:02:18] Probably, I don't know.
[01:02:18] Are they?
[01:02:19] Yes, it's been more than four years
[01:02:21] so why not?
[01:02:21] Here's...
[01:02:22] I understand voting is close.
[01:02:23] Well, because Gima would be involved.
[01:02:25] That's why.
[01:02:25] But if we're talking...
[01:02:26] If we go back and think about Metal Gear versus Sonic,
[01:02:30] Sonic was designed to be like the cool hip edgy,
[01:02:33] awesome cool character.
[01:02:35] And while he's spinning around and, you know,
[01:02:37] bucking authority, Snake's over there just smoking...
[01:02:42] Looking cool as shit.
[01:02:43] Talking in a David Hater voice.
[01:02:46] So...
[01:02:46] I do love David here.
[01:02:47] I do love David here.
[01:02:48] Now if you can give me a while...
[01:02:49] I live that when they recast it.
[01:02:50] Sonic in Metal Gear?
[01:02:53] Yeah, we could talk.
[01:02:54] Yeah, it's called Smash Brothers actually.
[01:02:58] Right, yeah.
[01:02:59] Oh, that's right, he's in Smash Brothers.
[01:03:01] Both of them.
[01:03:01] Yeah, I mean...
[01:03:02] I forgot about that.
[01:03:02] I think also had Metal Gear.
[01:03:06] The Apiscope tie in.
[01:03:09] Oh, I didn't know about that one.
[01:03:11] Interesting, okay.
[01:03:12] There were apiscope missions you could play in one of them.
[01:03:15] I think it was two but it might have been three.
[01:03:18] I don't recall.
[01:03:19] I need to give Metal Gear Solid another shot.
[01:03:22] But I don't know.
[01:03:24] Yes, please.
[01:03:24] It's not as time that long of a game either.
[01:03:26] It's pretty short.
[01:03:27] It's too long to be played.
[01:03:28] Especially if you skip over the cinematics.
[01:03:30] What is puzzles or fun?
[01:03:31] It's like an hour.
[01:03:32] It's good.
[01:03:33] Yeah, no, the story is great.
[01:03:34] It's like Kojima's love letter to cinema.
[01:03:37] Like it feels like every 80s, 90s action movie rolled up together.
[01:03:40] If I wanted to design levels,
[01:03:42] I'd be a level designer.
[01:03:45] Not a similar.
[01:03:46] Also Metal Gear Solid is very tongue in cheek on purpose.
[01:03:50] Like what?
[01:03:51] In Metal Gear Solid 2,
[01:03:54] Rhyden comes across Snake at a point
[01:03:57] and Snake gives Rhyden a bunch of ammo.
[01:03:59] He's like here, I don't need this.
[01:04:00] He's like, why won't you need it?
[01:04:02] And he points to his headband
[01:04:04] that he got from Metal Gear Solid 1 and goes,
[01:04:07] infinite ammo.
[01:04:10] Well, also do you remember the name that he gave to Rhyden?
[01:04:15] Snake Pliskin.
[01:04:16] From Escape from Hell.
[01:04:17] Yeah, he told the news.
[01:04:18] Pliskin.
[01:04:18] Yeah.
[01:04:19] Pliskin, yeah.
[01:04:20] Snake Pliskin.
[01:04:22] Solid Snake Pliskin is brilliant.
[01:04:23] You can't, you know, top to your stuff.
[01:04:27] Yeah, I'll just take your word for that.
[01:04:28] That's been just a big guys.
[01:04:31] That's good.
[01:04:32] Love it.
[01:04:34] All right, well,
[01:04:37] fantastic.
[01:04:37] So I think we definitely ranked it and wrecked it tonight.
[01:04:42] We definitely wrecked it tonight.
[01:04:47] Next time SoundTracks featured as cameos
[01:04:50] in a fish called Wanda.
[01:04:55] Song references and Celine Dion's latest hits.
[01:04:59] Oh my god.
[01:05:01] Next time we'll have to do
[01:05:03] Ready Player One.
[01:05:04] It'll be a 48 bracket.
[01:05:06] That's what I'm saying.
[01:05:08] There it is.
[01:05:09] We'll bring it over.
[01:05:10] Colin King Clong, he's not King Kong by name.
[01:05:13] They call him great ape.
[01:05:15] So we had to put him in there.
[01:05:16] D'Qua will have it.
[01:05:18] We'll have it.
[01:05:18] Immediately.
[01:05:18] We'll have we'll have D&D against space invaders.
[01:05:22] It'll be fine.
[01:05:24] Table top D&D against space invaders.
[01:05:27] It's good.
[01:05:28] No, no, no.
[01:05:28] You're just going to have to bring like a dozen on the lobes
[01:05:31] and not of which will matter.
[01:05:32] Yeah, all of them will throw out.
[01:05:34] There are good games
[01:05:36] and the references were sound.
[01:05:37] I just you guys just don't like fun.
[01:05:39] It's okay.
[01:05:40] That's fine.
[01:05:40] It's fine.
[01:05:41] We like fun.
[01:05:43] So long as it doesn't involve circus Charlie.
[01:05:46] Well,
[01:05:46] it's funny that Mario wasn't into that bracket.
[01:05:50] Mario was he referenced in that movie?
[01:05:53] He was.
[01:05:53] He's always played in the movie
[01:05:55] and there's a power.
[01:05:55] There wasn't the movie and he also references Mario
[01:05:58] not coming to the party because he's always late.
[01:06:00] How do we not pick Mario Brothers or something then?
[01:06:03] I don't know.
[01:06:04] Talked to the Canadian Olympic Committee
[01:06:06] that puts these together.
[01:06:09] I didn't make the brackets.
[01:06:11] First off, you guys picked the games, I think.
[01:06:13] And then I think since I picked the games
[01:06:15] and then I put them in the randomizer.
[01:06:16] Don't blame me.
[01:06:17] Let's talk to the Colorado fingers of a Canada.
[01:06:20] The Colorado Olympic Committee.
[01:06:22] Yeah.
[01:06:24] I mean, Charton and I were both like,
[01:06:25] yeah, road blasters needs to be in this.
[01:06:27] Yeah, that's the one we agreed on.
[01:06:31] See, Wolf and I knew we were at the right spot.
[01:06:34] We know we knew what we wanted.
[01:06:36] Yeah, and I think you guys are the same bedroom.
[01:06:38] Look at it.
[01:06:39] Like true.
[01:06:40] That's true.
[01:06:41] I threw a moral combat was obviously wrong.
[01:06:43] So my daughter, like the co-chancelers,
[01:06:48] the rest that are just
[01:06:49] but end up next to each other.
[01:06:52] All right.
[01:06:53] Thank you guys for listening.
[01:06:54] This has been a very odd episode of Presbyte canceled.
[01:06:59] This has been a beautiful.
[01:07:00] It's really exactly how I thought it was going to go.
[01:07:03] Yeah, this is.
[01:07:05] I love it.
[01:07:06] Anyway, I'm going to like this at presbytecancel.com.
[01:07:09] You can find all our links to our socials,
[01:07:11] our discord there.
[01:07:12] Come and join us.
[01:07:13] Tell us what video game references we missed.
[01:07:16] We were talking about just record Ralph one.
[01:07:18] We know there's more stuff in record Ralph two
[01:07:20] but just record Ralph one here.
[01:07:23] So yeah, I'm gonna let us know if there's something we missed
[01:07:27] that you felt should have been in this
[01:07:28] and maybe could have been the contender.
[01:07:29] Let us know in the discord.
[01:07:31] And yeah, thank you all for listening.
[01:07:35] I can fix it.
[01:07:50] Yeah.
[01:08:14] We'll finish this.
[01:08:15] I'm sure.
