[00:00:05] The following is a GNC Podcast Production, Pop Culture Podcast.
[00:00:41] Hello everybody and welcome back to Geek Addicts, the pop culture podcast where we talk about Christmas animes in the middle of November because that makes total sense. I am Bill and this is Matt. How are you doing Matt?
[00:00:53] I am chilly. Yeah.
[00:00:56] I'm wearing my jacket.
[00:00:57] It's getting cold. I don't like the cold.
[00:01:00] Yeah. I've got the fire going all day. It was like my first project when I got up today was to get the fire going because yeah, all set with that. It's blazing now. Tell you that much.
[00:01:11] Nice.
[00:01:12] It's been one of those mornings just like I went out for breakfast with my mom and Alex and then me and Alex went food shopping and then I got home and I've been chilling on the couch. I fell asleep for a good two hours. Great start to the day.
[00:01:27] Yeah. No kidding. I am thoroughly like I don't know something's going on in my head right now. I'm really confused about the day. I know it's Saturday, but I went to the dump today, which I usually do on Sundays and then we're doing this, which I usually do on Fridays. So like I'm all fucked up.
[00:01:46] Yeah, it happens sometimes like we're going because next week's a short week.
[00:01:51] It is. It's probably gonna be two and a half for us. But yes, we're recording our Christmas episode just before Thanksgiving. Yes, because that that makes perfect sense.
[00:02:05] We're we're we're quite a bit ahead compared to the other shows.
[00:02:09] Yeah, I remember there was like that period of time where we were struggling like to get episodes in like we were constantly like just barely like ahead and then like we saw got like a ton of them recorded at like this once one period and now we're like super ahead.
[00:02:22] Well, it helped that we had those pilot episodes ready to go true.
[00:02:26] True. I think that those did fill in three weeks.
[00:02:29] And we still have a fourth one that's going to be saved for a determined time.
[00:02:35] So, you know, it's funny is that speaking of Christmas, my I got a text from my mom earlier today.
[00:02:41] She was asking like what Xander wants slash needs for Christmas.
[00:02:46] And I went and asked him about it.
[00:02:48] And like, keep in mind, this is the kid who like literally he will spend all year like leading up to his birthday leading up to all sorts of other things like hey, like I really want this.
[00:02:56] I really want that. I really want this.
[00:02:58] But when I asked him what he wants for Christmas, it's just oh, he's like, you serious dude.
[00:03:07] You've been telling me all year like all these different things.
[00:03:09] I can't keep track.
[00:03:10] You got to keep track of that shit, man.
[00:03:12] You're supposed to be marking that shit down for your Christmas list.
[00:03:16] But he was he was always he was always very late getting mailing out his Christmas list.
[00:03:24] For saying it's a big deal.
[00:03:26] Big deal.
[00:03:27] Yeah, right.
[00:03:28] I'm excited.
[00:03:29] Which I actually I did receive.
[00:03:32] The first thing that I actually got for him, which is.
[00:03:37] It is for him because he did ask for it, but.
[00:03:41] If he didn't get it for Christmas, I would have so it's it's parking zero.
[00:03:48] Oh, yeah.
[00:03:48] So I keep forgetting that came out.
[00:03:51] Yeah.
[00:03:53] Yeah.
[00:03:54] And I'm I'm excited to play it, but I have to wait a month.
[00:03:59] Yeah, it's fine.
[00:03:59] I got to wait on a few games as well that I'm pretty sure I've.
[00:04:06] I'll be getting around that as well.
[00:04:08] Hmm.
[00:04:09] But I did.
[00:04:09] I did manage to ring a couple answers out of them out of them for for things I could
[00:04:13] tell my mom because I know she's shopping Black Friday deals and just like on a whim.
[00:04:16] I was just kind of scrolling through Amazon and I saw that Final Fantasy seven rebirth was
[00:04:20] on sale for forty dollars right now.
[00:04:22] So I was like, hey, ma.
[00:04:24] Just just in case you're shopping Black Friday deals.
[00:04:27] Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
[00:04:28] Here you go.
[00:04:30] Yeah.
[00:04:32] Because I still have yet to play that.
[00:04:35] I still have really not even played the first one.
[00:04:38] I don't know why that game just isn't doing it for me.
[00:04:42] Well, you're definitely more of a like a turn based RPG kind of guy for the most part.
[00:04:47] I'm a turn based fan seven.
[00:04:49] Seven also.
[00:04:50] I'm not as big a fan of is like eight per se or other games in the series.
[00:04:55] I'm also when it comes to RPGs, I'm more of a tail series or a persona guy, but I do enjoy
[00:05:01] me at Final Fantasy every now and then.
[00:05:04] I gotcha.
[00:05:05] You see, I enjoyed the experience of of remake.
[00:05:09] I still haven't finished the DLC for it.
[00:05:11] I really should do that.
[00:05:12] I don't know why I just I wasn't crazy about how you feet controls.
[00:05:17] Yeah.
[00:05:18] I mean, that's kind of a thing with like a game like where they're trying to make all
[00:05:22] the characters super unique, which I totally understand.
[00:05:26] It makes sense.
[00:05:27] You know, you don't want everybody to just be reskins of each other.
[00:05:29] But I mean, maybe if I maybe it's just because I played it too close to finishing the game.
[00:05:37] Like I was so used to playing.
[00:05:39] I was so used to playing as cloud and Tifa and Barrett that like by the time I got you be was just so rat radically different from all the others that it was just kind of jarring.
[00:05:50] Hmm.
[00:05:51] Hmm.
[00:05:51] Maybe play maybe if I went back and play it, which I really should play the DLC through before I.
[00:05:58] Before I jump on a rebirth, but I don't know.
[00:06:02] We'll see.
[00:06:03] We'll see.
[00:06:05] Yeah.
[00:06:05] Yeah.
[00:06:06] Speaking of a black Friday sales, I am was browsing Amazon.
[00:06:10] I got a few things in the mail today.
[00:06:13] Nice.
[00:06:14] They showed up literally right.
[00:06:16] Uh, me being ancient like I like I am, I bought CDs because I still enjoy CDs.
[00:06:25] Fair.
[00:06:25] Fair.
[00:06:26] Um, yeah.
[00:06:27] And I got a couple of them on sale.
[00:06:30] Got the, the new three 11 album.
[00:06:34] Nice.
[00:06:36] I got, I didn't even know they were still making music.
[00:06:38] Oh yeah.
[00:06:40] They're still doing it.
[00:06:41] I got the new offspring album.
[00:06:43] I didn't even know this was a thing.
[00:06:44] Just kind of saw this on.
[00:06:46] I was like, cool.
[00:06:47] Um, I didn't also have the new skillet album.
[00:06:51] I didn't realize skillet made a new album.
[00:06:53] Yeah.
[00:06:54] I'll be fucking, all these guys are still pumping stuff out apparently.
[00:06:58] Yep.
[00:06:58] And the most controversial of my bot, I got the new Lincoln park album.
[00:07:03] There you go.
[00:07:05] So, which I don't hate, but I also don't really feel like it's a Lincoln park album.
[00:07:10] If that makes sense.
[00:07:12] No, I get that.
[00:07:14] Um, but yeah, I, I also, uh, I also got in the, I mean, I don't know how much I'm gonna be able to get for Cindy.
[00:07:22] Cause I'm kind of focusing on the kids, but I did get her a book that she wanted.
[00:07:26] It was, um, lost in a mountain in Maine.
[00:07:29] Oh, nice.
[00:07:30] It's it's a, yeah, it's a nonfiction book.
[00:07:33] It's like an actual like true story.
[00:07:35] This dude who got lost in Maine and it sounds pretty wild.
[00:07:40] She told me about a little bit about, I think there's actually a movie that just came out for it or is coming out.
[00:07:45] So, um, but yeah, it was really interesting.
[00:07:48] I'll probably end up reading it too.
[00:07:49] And, uh, the ink heart book series.
[00:07:52] I haven't thought about those in forever.
[00:07:55] The author released a fourth book.
[00:07:57] Uh, I think it was actually earlier this month, but, um, that's going to be what Cindy gets me because.
[00:08:05] I mean, those were like big books when I was a kid growing up, when I heard she was writing a fourth book, I was like, gotta get it.
[00:08:10] I have not thought about that series in a very long time.
[00:08:16] Yeah, it's, it's one of my, one of my, uh, favorite ones from when I was a kid.
[00:08:23] Yeah, I got my small little book collection over there of like small books.
[00:08:29] Yeah.
[00:08:30] We still gotta, we still gotta discuss what we're gonna do for our Out There Manga series.
[00:08:36] Yeah, we'll, we'll figure that out.
[00:08:38] Probably after the holidays and everything.
[00:08:39] Yeah.
[00:08:40] Cause we got Thanksgiving coming up and that's gonna, that Thanksgiving is, I love Thanksgiving, but it is always an ordeal.
[00:08:46] Yeah.
[00:08:47] But I mean, I, if we pick something on the shorter side, it might be reasonable because we already kind of have like a, a kind of easier episode planned for next week.
[00:08:58] So we have, we got a good couple of weeks to, to read whatever it is.
[00:09:04] So if we, if we decide, you know, within the next couple of days, then, you know, make it a little easier.
[00:09:13] True.
[00:09:15] Yeah.
[00:09:16] Yeah.
[00:09:16] Other than that, I did a little bit of padding for the anime list yesterday.
[00:09:22] I heard.
[00:09:23] Yeah.
[00:09:24] Cause right now I've, I've been watching.
[00:09:26] So I follow Slade on Annie list and I can see what he's watching all the time.
[00:09:30] And he is definitely gunning for the top spot along with Alex.
[00:09:34] So I'm sure I'm curious who's going to win.
[00:09:36] I'm just already assuming we're going to lose.
[00:09:38] Like I've just given it.
[00:09:39] Oh, there's no question.
[00:09:41] I I'm probably going to be lowest, but that's fine.
[00:09:45] I don't know, man.
[00:09:46] I mean, I've, I haven't watched as much as I I'd like to up this year.
[00:09:51] Um, we'll see if we're going by episode count, it might be a little bit more of like a, a neck and neck thing.
[00:09:59] Cause I did watch a lot of one piece this year and, uh, and all of Kai.
[00:10:03] So that was another pretty sizable show.
[00:10:06] Um, and Dr.
[00:10:08] Stone isn't, it's not super long, but it's, it's a little bit longer.
[00:10:13] Yeah.
[00:10:13] I think the longest I watched this year was probably Rurouni Kenshin.
[00:10:18] Yeah.
[00:10:19] Getting that out of the way.
[00:10:20] Uh, but the, uh, original 96 series, I still haven't started the, uh, the remake yet.
[00:10:25] I watched the first season.
[00:10:27] I'm waiting for the second to finish its dub and then I'll jump into it.
[00:10:30] Oh, um, speaking of dubs almost being done.
[00:10:34] Oh, Shinoko episode 11 just came out dub.
[00:10:36] So that means I think there's like one more or two more.
[00:10:39] So that'll be a finished shortly.
[00:10:42] Nice.
[00:10:44] Um, yeah, actually come to think of it.
[00:10:47] Um, I still had a few unlistened to episodes.
[00:10:51] So just on a, on a whim yet.
[00:10:53] Uh, I think it was yesterday.
[00:10:54] I listened to our, um, our catch up episode from last, from earlier this year, after I took
[00:11:00] the Florida trip.
[00:11:01] Mm hmm.
[00:11:02] And, uh, I'm just going to throw this out there, Bill, in that episode, when you said, I'm
[00:11:08] finishing up a rune Kenshin and then my next big project is attack on Titan.
[00:11:13] Yeah.
[00:11:13] Yeah.
[00:11:13] Forget about that.
[00:11:14] That never happened.
[00:11:19] It's just going to be, it's just a meme at this point.
[00:11:21] All right.
[00:11:22] Like it's.
[00:11:26] Yeah.
[00:11:26] I watched a couple of things this week as well.
[00:11:28] Um, as I mentioned on the, the 200th episode of GNC, uh, I watched, uh, neon Genesis,
[00:11:35] a Evangelion this week, which I didn't hate.
[00:11:40] It just didn't catch me.
[00:11:42] It's, it's very much either you like it or you, I know it's, it's one of those animes
[00:11:49] that's like very iconic.
[00:11:50] Like me being someone who just doesn't get into mech animes, I can't say it's a favorite
[00:11:56] of mine.
[00:11:56] I do appreciate it for what it is.
[00:11:58] Um, cause it is a very compelling story.
[00:12:01] It's just so.
[00:12:04] At times.
[00:12:06] Yeah.
[00:12:06] It's just the problem for me personally was like, I didn't feel like any attachment to
[00:12:11] any of the characters.
[00:12:12] Cause I didn't see any really like character development until like episode 16.
[00:12:17] You also watch the, uh, it's only a 26.
[00:12:22] Uh, I did watch that Netflix.
[00:12:25] Yes.
[00:12:26] You watch the Netflix dub.
[00:12:28] I've always felt like the original, like ADB dub is the way to watch that show.
[00:12:32] Unfortunately, that dub is like harder than crack to find these days.
[00:12:39] Um, I think there's like a special edition that Netflix put or a G kids put out that has
[00:12:45] both dubs on it, but it's like a real, it's hard.
[00:12:47] It's the harder to find one.
[00:12:49] Um, but, um, yeah, that original dub, I just hit differently back in the day.
[00:12:54] That's fair.
[00:12:55] I just, I don't know.
[00:12:57] Just something about it.
[00:12:58] Didn't.
[00:12:59] It didn't catch me the way I was hoping.
[00:13:02] It's not everybody.
[00:13:03] Yeah.
[00:13:04] Well, it's like you said, like, I'm not crazy about mech animes either.
[00:13:07] Like I was never super interested in them.
[00:13:09] I do want to give some more a shot.
[00:13:11] Cause I'm sure there's at least a couple out there that I will like.
[00:13:14] Um, although technically apparently people classify attack on Titan as a mech anime.
[00:13:20] I guess.
[00:13:21] I mean, I mean, maybe if you want to say like bio mechs count, but.
[00:13:26] I mean, the only mech anime I could ever get into was full metal panic.
[00:13:30] And that, that's that anime is so fucking totally confused.
[00:13:34] That's probably the reason why I mean, I was into it.
[00:13:37] Yeah.
[00:13:39] Yeah.
[00:13:39] I don't know.
[00:13:39] I just, I, I didn't find any of the characters particularly likable.
[00:13:44] I mean, the story itself was, was fine once they actually started developing plot, which again, also took 16 episodes.
[00:13:54] Other than that, it was just kind of monster of the week ish, which, you know, it has its own merits, but I don't know, just something about the tone didn't do it for me.
[00:14:01] You might prefer the, the rebuild movies that they did.
[00:14:05] Like they did a series of, uh, films over the last like handful of years where they essentially kind of redid the entire story in movie form.
[00:14:14] Oh, so they did like, uh, like Berserk Golden Age trilogy kind of treatment.
[00:14:18] Kind of like they, they kind of redid them, reanimated like everything.
[00:14:23] Uh, it's like four, there's four movies.
[00:14:25] They have the most absurd, like hard to remember names ever because they're like Evangelion 1.7, some, some bullshit like that.
[00:14:35] Um, but there's four films.
[00:14:37] Um, and they're all pretty, pretty good.
[00:14:40] I got to rewatch them.
[00:14:41] It's been forever.
[00:14:41] Uh, I still have yet to watch the fourth one cause it only came out recently, but.
[00:14:45] I'll give them a shot.
[00:14:47] I'll definitely check it out.
[00:14:48] See, it was one of those things where like, I don't know if this is one of those, like, like animated made for TV kind of things, or if it was actually based on a manga.
[00:14:57] But I feel like I'd like the manga more if there is one.
[00:15:00] To me, I, to me, I think Eva's like one of those series that you just had to have been there to really get it.
[00:15:06] At times, but.
[00:15:07] That's fair.
[00:15:08] That might just be me.
[00:15:11] Um, on me, on the other hand, I recently watched.
[00:15:15] So yesterday I, I popped into after.
[00:15:18] What did I do yesterday?
[00:15:20] I can't remember after I got home from work, but, um, when I finally settled in to watch some anime, I sat down and I watched, uh, the my happy marriage OVA that just came out.
[00:15:31] Um, oh shit.
[00:15:32] I thought I watched that.
[00:15:34] It was very, very, uh, very much a holdover for people who are looking forward to the next season coming out next year.
[00:15:42] Um, very sweet, very wholesome.
[00:15:45] Uh, just made me want more.
[00:15:47] So I was like, that's great.
[00:15:49] Uh, yeah, good.
[00:15:52] No, it was a good holdover.
[00:15:54] I mean, I have the light novel, so I really want to know what happens next.
[00:15:56] I can read ahead, but.
[00:15:58] True.
[00:15:58] Um, yeah, that was nice.
[00:16:01] Um, and then I watched, I needed something dumb just for the rest of the night.
[00:16:05] So I finally sat down and watched, uh, reborn as a vending machine.
[00:16:09] Now I wander the dungeon, which may possibly be the dumbest thing I've ever watched, but it was weirdly entertaining.
[00:16:16] It's surprisingly entertaining.
[00:16:18] Like I actually, I watched the first couple of episodes with, uh, Cindy last weekend and she even agreed like, like, this is like the dumbest concept for a show, but I can't stop watching.
[00:16:28] Well, it's, it's self-aware.
[00:16:29] Like it realizes it's stupid.
[00:16:31] Like it's basically making fun of Easter guys, but like some watching it the whole time.
[00:16:36] I'm just like, like what the, the whole gimmick is the guy who died.
[00:16:40] He got flattened by a vending machine.
[00:16:44] Um, but he's also a vending machine fanatic and in his past life.
[00:16:49] So he knows everything about vending machines and he just becomes the vending machine, but he can only talk through the preset phrases in the vending machine.
[00:16:57] Which honestly, I feel like is, is to the show's benefit.
[00:17:00] I think that adds so much more to it.
[00:17:04] I find it way more entertaining that he can't just communicate, even though like, I don't know how much of it you watched.
[00:17:10] I finished it last night.
[00:17:12] Okay. Yeah. Cause at one point he blatantly says like, there is a telepathy option that I could upgrade myself to, but I don't want to.
[00:17:19] Cause I kind of just like doing this.
[00:17:22] He doesn't want to ruin the mystique.
[00:17:25] Exactly.
[00:17:26] And I kind of love him for it.
[00:17:29] Well, the, I, the jokes in that, like, cause that show also has some very nuts.
[00:17:33] It's safe and not safe for children moments.
[00:17:35] But I was like, like, there's a point where like, they're like the health and safety are like, we need to find a way to stop all this spread of disease.
[00:17:43] And I'm just like, I'm like, okay, what's going on here?
[00:17:44] And then he turns into a fucking condom dispenser.
[00:17:46] And I'm like, Oh, that disease.
[00:17:49] And they're just like playing, playing with them.
[00:17:52] And I'm just like, great.
[00:17:53] They take them out of the package.
[00:17:54] They're like, what is the slimy substance out there?
[00:17:57] Like, it's stretchy.
[00:18:00] And he just turns into like any moment.
[00:18:02] Oh, look, there's directions.
[00:18:04] Yeah.
[00:18:05] And like any moment he needs, like for something, he's like, Oh, right.
[00:18:08] I can turn into this very specific vending machine, which leads me to believe there's a shitload of vending machines in Japan that do different things.
[00:18:15] Well, yeah, like it even extends to like, Oh, I can just turn into like one of the like coin op like car wash machines that you see, you know, like or like a, like a power washer.
[00:18:27] Like you can turn into anything that's coin op basically.
[00:18:30] Or a portable machine.
[00:18:32] A portable toilet.
[00:18:34] Just because.
[00:18:36] Yeah.
[00:18:37] Yeah, it was shows.
[00:18:39] I want more.
[00:18:40] I want there to be a season two.
[00:18:42] Apparently the movie.
[00:18:43] I want there to be a movie.
[00:18:44] Apparently the manga goes on a lot or light novel.
[00:18:47] I think it's actually a light novel, but apparently that goes on.
[00:18:50] It's significant.
[00:18:51] I think it's still going actually to this day.
[00:18:53] So.
[00:18:55] Solid.
[00:18:56] Yeah, I definitely want that show to continue.
[00:18:58] It needs to be way more popular.
[00:19:01] I like how it starts out and it's very much like a traditional isekai.
[00:19:06] And then it just kind of like gives up on that after two episodes.
[00:19:10] And it's like, all right, now we're just going to be a slice of life for like the rest of this.
[00:19:12] It just because.
[00:19:14] Yeah.
[00:19:15] I mean, frankly, it's a it's a vending machine.
[00:19:18] It's pretty great.
[00:19:19] And I love the characters in that show, too.
[00:19:21] Like so many of them are very, very fun.
[00:19:24] Yeah.
[00:19:25] Like just like the random bear.
[00:19:27] Voiced by Chris Savitt.
[00:19:29] When I heard him talk, I'm like, oh, there he is.
[00:19:31] So I was like, I was wondering when he was going to show up.
[00:19:34] It's great.
[00:19:35] And he's a bear.
[00:19:36] The funniest part of it.
[00:19:37] I also watched one more show this week.
[00:19:40] I watched Hell's Paradise.
[00:19:41] Oh, nice.
[00:19:43] Which I found that found it was very, very good.
[00:19:48] I feel like it needed to be a bigger season because I feel like they barely scratched the surface of what the show is.
[00:19:56] Kind of like solo leveling where I feel like they needed a bigger first season to kind of set the stage.
[00:20:03] Well, that one's confirmed for a second.
[00:20:06] And there's a movie coming out in December.
[00:20:08] So I'm looking forward to that.
[00:20:11] Solo leveling was a concept to me that I found very fascinating where it's like it's not a guy that gets isekai'd into a game world.
[00:20:20] It's a world that's just isekai'd.
[00:20:23] And yeah, the main character is he's literally the player and he's like this loose cannon like kind of removed from everything.
[00:20:31] And I just kind of like the idea of a loose cannon protagonist who like kind of just does his own thing and completely is separated from the rules of the world.
[00:20:39] Hmm.
[00:20:40] Yeah, it's pretty fun.
[00:20:42] It's funny how like that show kind of treats everybody else's NPCs and that's why they can't level up.
[00:20:47] Yeah, kinda.
[00:20:48] It's very like can't like they're kind of have their set levels and it's like this guy is just straight up like.
[00:20:55] OP and it ends similar to black clover.
[00:20:59] It ends right when it gets fucking interesting because that final like final segment for solo leveling.
[00:21:08] I was like, fuck, I want to know what happens next.
[00:21:11] I might have to rewatch it.
[00:21:14] That's another one that has a pretty fire opening as well.
[00:21:18] That first that frickin first episode was like, what the fuck?
[00:21:23] Hmm.
[00:21:24] Yeah, right.
[00:21:24] Right.
[00:21:26] The thing about that show that like make it made it so addicting was almost every episode ends on a fucking cliffhanger.
[00:21:33] Hmm.
[00:21:34] Like there's like two episodes.
[00:21:35] I think they don't and those were like the perfect break off points.
[00:21:39] Yeah.
[00:21:41] Which is crazy considering it's only a 12 episode season.
[00:21:45] Hmm.
[00:21:45] Yeah, it goes quick.
[00:21:46] That was a very quick watch.
[00:21:48] Hmm.
[00:21:49] But.
[00:21:52] Anyways.
[00:21:53] I think we've waffled on enough.
[00:21:56] You said it out.
[00:21:57] It's half knowledge.
[00:21:58] You watch.
[00:21:58] Not so she's going to listen to this though.
[00:22:02] Yeah.
[00:22:03] So we're doing our Christmas special today and we thought it would be interesting to cover a few.
[00:22:10] Christmas themed anime episodes from a bunch of random shows like there's no theme here.
[00:22:16] They're all other than the fact that they're vaguely Christmas related.
[00:22:21] All of them take place to some degree during Christmas.
[00:22:24] Yes, some more than others.
[00:22:29] Yeah.
[00:22:29] So.
[00:22:30] I'm not sure how we want to split this.
[00:22:32] I think we should end on the, the one of the ones I picked just because of lengthwise.
[00:22:39] Yeah.
[00:22:40] I was going to say Kaguya probably should be the one we end on just cause that was a movie and all the other ones are just episodes.
[00:22:47] Yeah.
[00:22:48] I was thinking maybe we'll start with the, I think order will alternate.
[00:22:52] So maybe we'll start Pokemon.
[00:22:54] Then we'll do Azamaga Dayo.
[00:22:56] Then we'll do Sword Art and then we'll end with Kaguya.
[00:22:59] Yeah.
[00:23:00] Before we like jump, start jumping into individual ones.
[00:23:02] I do want to point out that I, I noticed how I, and I don't think this was done on purpose, but like all four of the shows are like completely different, like genres and, and, and tones.
[00:23:17] Like we got like, you know, the, the kind of like, like childish, you know, kids cartoon.
[00:23:23] And then we got like the sitcomie slice of life.
[00:23:27] And then we got the, the romance and then we've got just seasonal depression.
[00:23:33] Isakai.
[00:23:34] Yeah.
[00:23:35] The reason why isakais get a bad rep.
[00:23:38] Depending on who you ask.
[00:23:41] Well, that's debatable.
[00:23:42] I personally like Sword Art a lot.
[00:23:45] I know.
[00:23:45] Wow.
[00:23:47] And I, I mean, depending on your definition of isakai, I feel like SAO doesn't really become an isakai until like season three.
[00:23:56] It was kind of like one of the original ones though.
[00:23:59] I think that's why it gets kind of the rapid gets.
[00:24:02] That's fair.
[00:24:04] Yeah.
[00:24:06] Yeah.
[00:24:07] Yeah.
[00:24:07] Yeah.
[00:24:07] Yeah.
[00:24:08] It is kind of funny.
[00:24:08] We picked, we probably picked four of the most unrelated shows possible.
[00:24:14] I'm not going to lie too.
[00:24:15] Dude, when I was trying to pick my choices.
[00:24:18] I, when you look through like anime Christmas episodes, like, cause there is a Christmas, there's a Christmas special wiki, which I discovered, which is wonderful.
[00:24:26] Hmm.
[00:24:28] Um, the majority of anime Christmas episodes tended to be slice of life's, um, just by proxy.
[00:24:35] And the problem with doing life and romance.
[00:24:38] Yeah.
[00:24:39] And the problem with doing a lot of those is a lot of the times they're kind of ingrained right into like the plot of what's going on.
[00:24:49] So you can't really watch them standalone properly.
[00:24:51] Mm-hmm .
[00:24:53] Like, um, cause it'll be in the middle of a plot thread.
[00:24:56] And like, sometimes it's like, right at like in the middle of the series.
[00:24:59] And it's like, it's kind of like, you need to know all this shit that happened in like the previous, like 12 episodes to truly understand what's happening now.
[00:25:08] Yeah.
[00:25:08] In an episode that just has kind of like a Christmas theme in the background, but it's not really a standalone episode.
[00:25:14] Mm-hmm .
[00:25:14] So that's why I kind of went with the, I went with one because the, the entire show is based around nonsense.
[00:25:21] So I was like, all right, that'll work.
[00:25:23] And then, um, the other one is, is a movie like finale.
[00:25:26] So it kind of works.
[00:25:28] Yeah.
[00:25:30] Um, so we're, we're starting with Pokemon.
[00:25:35] Yeah.
[00:25:35] Let's start with the most easy to digest of all of these, I'd say.
[00:25:40] Um, so I won't, I won't say how I watched.
[00:25:45] Um, Pokemon, the Pokemon episode, but I will say I watched it totally legally.
[00:25:49] Yes. Totally legally.
[00:25:51] Um, yeah, because let's face it, finding Pokemon online is not easy because streaming services generally don't have all the episodes and yeah.
[00:26:02] Um, it used to be a lot more accessible.
[00:26:05] I don't know what I did.
[00:26:05] And then they changed licensors, I guess.
[00:26:08] And it just, it's become harder to find.
[00:26:11] Um, that being said though, the totally legal copy I, I, I watched, um, had like the full intro, the who's that Pokemon, the Pikachu jeep box at the end.
[00:26:20] Like it had the full, full nine yards.
[00:26:23] So I was like, Oh cool.
[00:26:24] This is just like watching it as a kid.
[00:26:26] And I will say watching the intro over, like I haven't watched the full Pokemon intro in like forever.
[00:26:31] Um, forgot the tentacruel smashing the buildings was in the intro.
[00:26:35] So I was like, Oh damn.
[00:26:37] I was like, I was like, damn that, that episode is a band for many reasons.
[00:26:43] Well, heavily edited for many reasons, but yet it's right in the intro of every episode.
[00:26:48] Yep.
[00:26:49] Yep.
[00:26:50] Um, yeah.
[00:26:52] So holiday hijinks.
[00:26:54] So I don't know about you.
[00:26:56] I did not remember until I went back and rewatched Pokemon, like later in life.
[00:27:01] I did not remember that there was a Christmas episode.
[00:27:05] I don't think this episode was aired very often for reasons.
[00:27:10] Yeah.
[00:27:10] Well, there's a reason why, uh, the reason why the anime over here tended to veer away from playing anything that had a jinx in it.
[00:27:20] Yeah.
[00:27:21] Um, those who we're not going to get into it, but those who know, you probably know.
[00:27:27] Yeah.
[00:27:28] Um, so the episode starts with, uh, Jesse, uh, for some reason, team rockets hanging out in a castle on a, on a cliff.
[00:27:39] Yeah.
[00:27:39] They just have one of those.
[00:27:41] I don't know where the hell that came from.
[00:27:43] Cause they spent like half the episode in a castle.
[00:27:46] Was this like a recurring thing or is this just a one-off thing that will never get brought up again?
[00:27:51] Cause I don't remember this at all.
[00:27:53] I'm pretty sure it's a one-off thing and I, I could be wrong about this, but when she was flashbacking to when she was a kid, I feel like she was in the same room, which leads me to believe that she was living in that castle.
[00:28:05] And that's where her parents lived.
[00:28:06] Isn't like Jesse's backstory really fucking vague too.
[00:28:10] Cause I know James is as fully developed, but Jesse's was always kind of like.
[00:28:13] Well, I think like the only real like detail we got on her backstory that she was so poor that they used to eat snow.
[00:28:22] Yeah.
[00:28:23] Her backstory was really dark over the years.
[00:28:28] Um, which is really funny when you consider like her and James on the team together, like James was like a pampered rich kid and she was like literally eating snow.
[00:28:38] It explains a lot about their dynamic.
[00:28:41] Mm.
[00:28:43] Um, so yeah, like she's like that they're like planning on, uh, they had like this plan that captures Santa Claus to steal a bunch of Christmas presents.
[00:28:52] Uh, because Jesse is under the, under the belief that Santa Claus is actually a jinx because a jinx in a Santa suit came into her room as when she was a little girl and stole her favorite doll.
[00:29:08] And that's why she hates Santa Claus.
[00:29:12] Yeah.
[00:29:14] Like, like many Pokemon anime episodes, this is a one-off plot thread that will only ever be mentioned once and never brought up.
[00:29:20] Yeah.
[00:29:21] For real.
[00:29:22] Um, so then like, you know, Ash and the gang, they find said jinx on a beach randomly.
[00:29:30] Uh, and it's got Santa's boot.
[00:29:33] And they're like, Oh, this must be Santa's jinx.
[00:29:38] I gotta say, first off, jinx is just such a fucking weird Pokemon.
[00:29:44] Like I've never, I've never been a fan of the jinx line of Pokemon.
[00:29:49] But, um, putting that aside.
[00:29:51] I love the fact that like ashes first instinct is like, Ooh, Pokemon gotta catch it.
[00:29:56] Um, yeah.
[00:29:56] Right.
[00:29:57] He could shoot Thunderbolt.
[00:29:58] Just doesn't even like think of a type match or anything.
[00:30:01] Just immediate attack.
[00:30:02] Cause ashes.
[00:30:04] Um, and of course it doesn't work.
[00:30:06] And then.
[00:30:07] He tries to throw the pokeball at it and it fails immediately.
[00:30:10] And they assume, Oh, this Pokemon must be owned by someone else.
[00:30:13] They're like, but whose Pokemon could it be?
[00:30:15] Why is it out here by itself?
[00:30:16] And then Misty realizes she's like, Hey, it's got a boot.
[00:30:20] It must belong to Santa.
[00:30:21] And they're like, how?
[00:30:22] And she's like, there's a picture of him on the inside.
[00:30:24] I'm like, yeah, that totally means it belongs to him.
[00:30:27] That tracks.
[00:30:28] That tracks.
[00:30:29] Um, I, I love the, well, we find out that the jinx was from the North Pole and it was standing at the edge, cleaning a boot and the ice broken.
[00:30:39] And he drifted to wherever she was there.
[00:30:43] And the whole, I love the logic of ashes team because ashes team has always been.
[00:30:50] It's amazing.
[00:30:51] They've made it.
[00:30:52] They've made it this far in life.
[00:30:53] Sometimes.
[00:30:54] Um, their logic is let's build a raft in drift to the North Pole.
[00:31:00] Well, yeah, which considering like in the context of the episode, this is like right before Christmas because Santa goes to like deliver presents at the end of the day.
[00:31:09] The episode.
[00:31:11] So that leads me to believe that they were in the South.
[00:31:14] Like they were close to the equator because they were on a beach and it was warm out.
[00:31:19] So they, they built that raft.
[00:31:25] And apparently the water Pokemon could only get them so far.
[00:31:28] And then Ash got into his head.
[00:31:30] Like I can swim that far.
[00:31:32] Yeah.
[00:31:33] The whole time I'm like, they're getting on a fucking, this is like the damn episode where like it from a.
[00:31:38] Uh, years later during like the advanced era where like they're in the middle of a desert and they're like, we have no water.
[00:31:44] We're going to die.
[00:31:45] Meanwhile, they're surrounded by five water Pokemon.
[00:31:47] It's like you fucking idiots.
[00:31:49] Like.
[00:31:51] Like.
[00:31:52] Oh.
[00:31:54] Yeah.
[00:31:54] So it was just really silly.
[00:31:56] Cause he actually literally straps the fucking wrap to himself and he's like, yeah, I'm going to jump in the sub zero fucking water.
[00:32:03] It's tries to pull the raft.
[00:32:05] Um, and also the wrap that they were able to somehow forge just.
[00:32:11] Out of nothing, I guess.
[00:32:12] Cause there was no trees nearby for the good to get that wood.
[00:32:15] But yeah, they were on the beach.
[00:32:17] Whatever.
[00:32:18] Um, also I love the fact that they're like, they get on the raft.
[00:32:20] They're like, how are we going to move it?
[00:32:21] And Ash is like, I know Misty, you can use your water type Pokemon.
[00:32:25] She's like, wow, I didn't think of that.
[00:32:27] I'm like.
[00:32:27] Yeah.
[00:32:28] Right.
[00:32:28] A little miss waters.
[00:32:29] My specialty.
[00:32:30] He didn't think of that.
[00:32:32] Yeah.
[00:32:32] You know, Ash with the like one water types.
[00:32:34] Like let's just use our water types.
[00:32:36] And this also reminded me that why does Misty have both a star me and a star you?
[00:32:41] Yeah.
[00:32:41] Right.
[00:32:42] Isn't that weird?
[00:32:42] I've never got that.
[00:32:45] Um, it's because there was limited Pokemon originally.
[00:32:48] So it's like, well, you know, we can't give her all the water Pokemon because then she wouldn't be able to catch any.
[00:32:54] Oh yeah.
[00:32:54] And she was afraid of, uh, Gyarados is at that point.
[00:32:57] So she didn't have a magic carp yet.
[00:32:59] Even though in the manga, she had one.
[00:33:01] Well, the manga is just a better continuity in general.
[00:33:04] So true.
[00:33:06] Um, so yeah, he, he bumps into a Lapras randomly.
[00:33:11] This is before he got his Lapras.
[00:33:14] And I love the fact that they make a whole big deal about Lapras's can talk.
[00:33:17] Um, but then when he gets one later, it never does.
[00:33:21] Yeah.
[00:33:21] Well, this is, this is special because it's Santa's Lapras.
[00:33:25] Yeah.
[00:33:26] So, um, but yeah, the Lapras is like, hey, Santa sent me out to find you guys.
[00:33:31] Uh, I'll pull you there.
[00:33:35] Yeah.
[00:33:35] Which apparently five, uh, other water Pokemon can't do it, but the Lapras can.
[00:33:41] Well, I mean, Lapras is an ice type.
[00:33:42] So I guess going through colder water would be easier.
[00:33:45] It's also a Pokemon.
[00:33:46] That's pretty much just its entire gimmick is it's a fucking taxi basically.
[00:33:52] Yeah, that's fair.
[00:33:55] Um, so they get to the North Pole and of course team rocket was following them.
[00:34:00] I forgot about their Gyarados submarine with the, the bike pedals.
[00:34:04] You forgot about that.
[00:34:05] I hadn't, I had, well, I mean, I haven't thought about the Pokemon.
[00:34:08] But didn't they have a Magikarp one too?
[00:34:11] So did they just start with a Magikarp one and then they upgraded to Gyarados?
[00:34:15] It's, it's like the Pokemon timeline.
[00:34:17] It doesn't make any sense.
[00:34:18] It's always changing.
[00:34:19] Also the weird, like, like Chub Gyarados sub that they have kind of resembles Mega Gyarados,
[00:34:27] doesn't it?
[00:34:28] A little.
[00:34:29] Like it's got the same kind of like, like shape to it.
[00:34:35] Yeah.
[00:34:36] It's actually kind of funny though.
[00:34:37] Cause I was wondering, like, if you ever wonder how team rocket always stays in such great shapes,
[00:34:41] cause that's how they travel with the peddling Vip submarine.
[00:34:44] And plus they're always on the verge of starving.
[00:34:47] True.
[00:34:47] Despite the fact that James could easily just get them food whenever he needs to.
[00:34:52] True.
[00:34:53] Well, he got tired of his parents, so.
[00:34:56] Um.
[00:34:57] It's, you know, they're very vague on that as well.
[00:35:00] So.
[00:35:01] Yeah.
[00:35:02] So they get there.
[00:35:04] Sometimes he didn't.
[00:35:05] Yeah.
[00:35:05] Right.
[00:35:06] Um, yeah.
[00:35:07] So they get there and they're like, they see Santa out there and he's got all these jinxes.
[00:35:11] And I, I just want to throw this out there.
[00:35:14] No sign of Mrs. Claus.
[00:35:16] Uh, there's plenty of jinx though.
[00:35:18] And with all those leaks we've been getting lately.
[00:35:22] Let's not think about this too far.
[00:35:25] No, no, it's, it's, it's not.
[00:35:26] I'm going to throw that out there.
[00:35:28] It's, it's not a typhlosion there.
[00:35:30] We're okay.
[00:35:32] It is the human shape Pokemon.
[00:35:37] He's got a whole harem of them.
[00:35:40] I don't know.
[00:35:41] I'm just saying.
[00:35:42] Yeah.
[00:35:43] Also, there was no elves.
[00:35:45] Yeah.
[00:35:46] Well, he apparently just has jinx instead of elves in Pokemon world.
[00:35:49] Just like how apparently he has a rapid dash instead of a reindeer.
[00:35:54] He even blatantly says, nope, no reindeer.
[00:35:56] Got me a flying rapid dash.
[00:35:57] Well, it, by Pokemon, did they have had like regular animals been phased out by this point in the anime?
[00:36:05] Um, I think so.
[00:36:06] Because I think there was a dog in like one episode and then by like two episodes later, regular animals no longer exist.
[00:36:13] Yeah.
[00:36:13] Where does food come from?
[00:36:14] Don't think about it too hard.
[00:36:17] Yep.
[00:36:17] Don't think about that steak.
[00:36:20] Or anything really.
[00:36:22] Well, it's funny because there is that episode, the, the SSN episode.
[00:36:26] James does think about eating the magic carp.
[00:36:28] So that it does imply that that, that, that implies some things I'm just going to say.
[00:36:33] Yeah.
[00:36:34] That's true.
[00:36:35] Isn't Pokemon one of those Pokemon is literally one of those series that you just shouldn't think too hard about.
[00:36:41] Yeah.
[00:36:42] Yeah.
[00:36:43] But anyways, um, so we, they go through the whole, the whole spiel about team rocket shows up.
[00:36:49] They're going to steal the, the, the Christmas presents.
[00:36:51] And then the jinx like telepathically conveys to Jesse, like, Hey, uh, you broke your toy and I was taking it back to fix it.
[00:37:02] And then Santa was like, well, I was going to bring it back to you, uh, the next Christmas, but, uh, you didn't believe in me.
[00:37:09] And I, I can't go to people's houses who don't believe in me.
[00:37:12] So we just kept it.
[00:37:15] It's such a weird logic.
[00:37:18] Uh, yeah.
[00:37:19] But then like, she's like, Oh my God, thank you so much.
[00:37:22] I can't believe I, I hurt my best friend.
[00:37:24] And I don't know if she was referring to the dollar or the jinx, but in either way, it's kind of weird.
[00:37:29] I'm pretty sure it's a doll.
[00:37:32] Knowing Jesse's like the way Jesse thinks, I'm pretty sure it was the doll.
[00:37:37] Probably out of, she doesn't, uh, she doesn't give the impression of, uh, somebody who had a lot of friends as a kid.
[00:37:46] But I'm pretty sure her only friend in the series is James.
[00:37:50] Yeah.
[00:37:50] And even that's debatable sometimes.
[00:37:53] But, uh, so yeah, Santa's like, all right, so you, you got your thing back.
[00:37:58] We, we cleared up that whole misconception.
[00:38:00] Uh, so now you, you can like totally get me back to presents and untie us.
[00:38:04] Right.
[00:38:06] And they're like, nah, fuck that.
[00:38:07] We're, we're, we're, we're still taking the shit.
[00:38:09] What is team rockets goal here?
[00:38:11] I mean, they're supposed to be catching Pokemon, not stealing Christmas.
[00:38:15] Like, uh, I don't know.
[00:38:18] They watched the Grinch one too many times and who knows.
[00:38:23] Did this predate the, uh, the Jim Carrey movie?
[00:38:27] It might've actually.
[00:38:29] I think so.
[00:38:30] The Jim Carrey movie came out in like 2005, I think.
[00:38:32] I know that was, that was way, it was like early.
[00:38:35] It was like, yeah, it was like 2000, I think 2000 actually.
[00:38:40] I might predate it then.
[00:38:42] I'm not sure.
[00:38:43] Cause cat in the hat was like the 2005 one.
[00:38:46] No, I, it would have had to have predated it.
[00:38:49] Right.
[00:38:49] Cause, cause Pokemon, the movie 2000, that was orange islands.
[00:38:54] Yeah.
[00:38:55] Yeah.
[00:38:55] So it had to have.
[00:38:56] Yeah.
[00:38:58] I have to know that.
[00:38:59] When did that awful Grinch movie come out?
[00:39:06] So yeah.
[00:39:07] Uh, 2000.
[00:39:10] Yes.
[00:39:11] So.
[00:39:14] Yeah.
[00:39:15] It's just such a, such an unpleasant movie.
[00:39:19] I enjoy it.
[00:39:21] It's a classic.
[00:39:22] I mean, it's a classic, but it's like objectively not a great movie.
[00:39:26] True.
[00:39:27] Um, so yeah, ultimately Ash attempts to stop them fails.
[00:39:32] Santa's like, all right, Jinx.
[00:39:34] Sigh wave.
[00:39:35] Goodbye.
[00:39:37] Ha ha.
[00:39:38] I love how this episode just highlights how pathetic Ash is in every way.
[00:39:44] Yeah.
[00:39:44] Right.
[00:39:45] Everything.
[00:39:46] Everybody is pathetic.
[00:39:48] Yeah.
[00:39:48] I mean, literally everything Ash and the gang does in this episode literally is for nothing.
[00:39:53] Like they literally just are kind of there.
[00:39:56] Like everyone, they have to be assisted in pretty much every aspect.
[00:39:59] And even when they're assisted, they still fuck it up somehow.
[00:40:03] Yep.
[00:40:04] This is true.
[00:40:06] Early Pokemon.
[00:40:08] But that's pretty much how the episode wraps up team rocket blast off.
[00:40:12] And, uh, Ash is like, I didn't tell Santa what I wanted for Christmas.
[00:40:18] And then the, uh, the, the, the Lapras is like, oh, he knows Ash.
[00:40:23] He knows.
[00:40:24] Yep.
[00:40:25] Which had like a sinister, sinister vibe to it.
[00:40:28] I'm not sure why.
[00:40:29] He's always watching Ash.
[00:40:33] Also because I watched it through totally legal means the, uh, the who's that Pokemon was Pidgeotto or Pidgeot.
[00:40:40] Yeah.
[00:40:42] So there's yeah, I, I washed it off of my hard drive, but it still had all that stuff on it.
[00:40:47] Nice.
[00:40:49] Also, it ends with, um, Jesse James and Meowth back in their castle.
[00:40:54] And they're just like, beat the shit in their beds.
[00:40:59] Yep.
[00:41:00] They're laying in the bed, hoping for Santa to come in and bring the presents.
[00:41:05] Yeah.
[00:41:06] Although James does have the foresight to be like, I don't think we're going to get anything after our stunt we pulled earlier.
[00:41:12] Yeah. Right.
[00:41:13] Cause James was always, always the one that was at least somewhat on the, the smarter side of things.
[00:41:18] Yeah. Even though he keeps getting swindled by the, the magic carp guy.
[00:41:23] I mean, Hey, he's a good salesman.
[00:41:25] Yeah. I mean, he, I'm pretty sure that's the reason why they're like always starving is because he keeps blowing all of their salary on magic carts, magic carts and fake everything.
[00:41:36] Basically.
[00:41:38] Not to mention all the weird gadgets they keep pulling out when they're not just building pitfalls.
[00:41:43] Yeah.
[00:41:45] Yep.
[00:41:47] Um, yeah.
[00:41:49] And then the episode ends with the jinx shows up and does the love confusion kiss to them.
[00:41:54] And then that's it.
[00:41:56] Yep.
[00:41:57] End story.
[00:41:58] It ends with a to be continued box.
[00:42:01] Yeah.
[00:42:02] It actually ends with a to be continued.
[00:42:03] But the whole time I was like, I don't think they're continuing this plot thread.
[00:42:07] I think it says that on the end of every episode.
[00:42:09] Yeah.
[00:42:10] Yeah.
[00:42:10] Just a funny thing.
[00:42:12] Cause it's always to be continued.
[00:42:16] Um, so, so next up would be as a manga day.
[00:42:25] Oh yeah.
[00:42:25] I think we'll rank them at the end after we've covered them all.
[00:42:29] Um, yeah.
[00:42:32] Awesome.
[00:42:32] So this one was fun to me because as a manga day, I was like one of my favorite, just like stupid slice of life anime is like the whole gimmick of as a manga day was, it is essentially, I've said it before on the podcast, but it is.
[00:42:46] By all intents and purposes, it is, um, Seinfeld the anime, um, where essentially it is a show about five high school girls, uh, going through high school and all the weird bullshit that happens.
[00:42:57] Nothing has to do with anything.
[00:42:58] It is completely just a show about nothing.
[00:43:01] Um, and all the nonsense that happens in between.
[00:43:04] Yeah.
[00:43:05] This is the one and only episode of this show that I have seen.
[00:43:08] And I was thoroughly confused for a lot of it.
[00:43:10] There's a lot of weird, awkward pauses throughout.
[00:43:13] Oh yeah.
[00:43:14] That's the whole shows like that.
[00:43:15] The only like really stuff that you probably didn't know was who these characters were, because that's like the only stuff that really gets introduced early on.
[00:43:23] Other than that, it's all just insanity throughout the entire show.
[00:43:27] Yeah.
[00:43:27] Yeah.
[00:43:28] I did notice the, the, the, the, the one character that has like the Southern Belle accent.
[00:43:32] Oh, Osaka.
[00:43:33] Yes.
[00:43:34] Yeah.
[00:43:34] Isn't, isn't Osaka like the, the like Hick region where like if people are from Osaka and anime, they usually have that Southern Belle accent.
[00:43:42] Yes.
[00:43:43] That is the entire, that that's kind of the joke with, with her basically like the whole, whenever, like they have a character from that region, they always give them that sort of Southern Belle dialect.
[00:43:56] Yeah.
[00:43:57] So a little backstory to Azamaga Daioh.
[00:43:59] So this was one of those shows that was kind of like for years considered undoubable because a lot of the, the show is a complete comedy throughout.
[00:44:08] Um, and a lot of the jokes in Japan, in Japanese don't make any sense over here.
[00:44:14] So basically ADV had to go in and just redo, basically they had to make everything work from like a localized perspective and they managed to do it very well.
[00:44:25] Like there is so much absurd jokes in this, in this, uh, series.
[00:44:30] Hmm.
[00:44:32] That teacher is really mean.
[00:44:34] Oh, which one?
[00:44:35] Uh, Yukari or, uh, Kurosawa.
[00:44:37] The, the, the chick.
[00:44:39] The, uh, so there, there's the two of them.
[00:44:43] The one who's like constantly smacking the kids and it was just like, I'm tired of teaching English today.
[00:44:47] We're doing math.
[00:44:49] And then she stares at the math book for like five seconds.
[00:44:51] And she's like, today we're doing PE.
[00:44:54] That's, uh, so that's, um, that's Yukari.
[00:44:57] There's the two, there's two.
[00:44:59] So basically the only characters in the show that matter are the five high school girls.
[00:45:04] Um, the two teachers.
[00:45:05] Um, there's, um, there's Yukari, the one with the long hair.
[00:45:07] And then there's, uh, Miss Kurosawa.
[00:45:09] She was the one with the shorter hair that you see briefly.
[00:45:11] She has episodes that focus on her later on.
[00:45:15] Um, more in depth.
[00:45:16] And then there's, um, the male teacher who, uh, is the only prominent male in the entire show.
[00:45:23] Yeah.
[00:45:24] He was, he was a little creepy.
[00:45:26] That's his gimmick.
[00:45:28] That's exactly all he does throughout the show.
[00:45:30] So he was actually pretty tame in this episode, believe it or not.
[00:45:34] That's fair.
[00:45:37] Um, I don't even know where to start on this one.
[00:45:39] So I'll let you pick the reins here.
[00:45:41] The fact that it's essentially nonsense and there is no plot.
[00:45:46] Um, yeah.
[00:45:47] So basically throughout this point in the series.
[00:45:50] So the series essentially starts off where they're starting their first year of high school and the series ends where they graduate.
[00:45:57] Um, so this episode takes place sometime around the end of their second, second year.
[00:46:04] Um, right around Christmas time.
[00:46:07] Hmm.
[00:46:08] So the episode kind of starts where they're just kind of chatting about random things going from plot thread to plot thread, kind of just talking about different like things.
[00:46:18] Like what are they working on?
[00:46:19] Other things you get the cuts.
[00:46:20] What do the bears look like?
[00:46:22] Yeah.
[00:46:23] Like the whole, like, are they, are they black bears with white or are they white bears with black?
[00:46:27] It's like the questions that we have to, we have to know.
[00:46:31] Hmm.
[00:46:31] Um, also they're, they're questioning whether people know that Santa Claus exists or not, which is always fun.
[00:46:38] Um, my favorite line is the one where the, the one girl, Tomo, who is the, uh, the, the, he's like the classic trope of just the, uh, the high school girl.
[00:46:46] That's constantly just like on like speed the entire time.
[00:46:50] Hmm.
[00:46:51] Um, she has this whole point where she's like Santa doesn't exist. Reindeer don't exist.
[00:46:56] And everyone's like reindeer exist Tomo.
[00:46:58] And she's like, what? She goes to every person. It's like, do reindeer exist? They're like, yes.
[00:47:03] And I was like, reindeer are real. They just don't fly in reality.
[00:47:07] Yeah. I love that whole bit though. That was really funny.
[00:47:10] Well, I love it too. Cause they go through every care. Cause all the characters are different tropes.
[00:47:14] Like, so for starters, there's, um, Tomo's the one that's kind of the crazy, like always on full, like a hundred percent energy.
[00:47:23] There's a Chiyo who is like the, the really gifted, like child who was just in high school for some reason.
[00:47:30] Um, there's Osaka who is her own personality, which is essentially, she's just a space case.
[00:47:35] She, she, she gets great in certain episodes.
[00:47:39] Uh, there's Yomi who is like the, the one straight character.
[00:47:43] That's just basically like always like the only sane person. Basically.
[00:47:47] Uh, she's the one with the glasses.
[00:47:50] And then there's a, this is a Sakaki who is the, the really awkward tall one.
[00:47:56] Gotcha.
[00:47:57] Um, oh, and then there's the, uh, the, the, the sporty one, the tan.
[00:48:02] Um, she, she shows up later, but, um, yeah, each one of them has their own personality traits.
[00:48:08] And I just love how she goes to each one of them.
[00:48:09] And even like the most ditzy one, Osaka is like, yeah, reindeer are real.
[00:48:13] They just don't fly in reality.
[00:48:15] Yeah.
[00:48:18] It was pretty great.
[00:48:19] And it was a little thing where it was just like, oh, if you could have anything, anything at all for Christmas, what would it be?
[00:48:24] It's like a hundred million yen.
[00:48:27] Yeah.
[00:48:27] I mean, they're just being realistic.
[00:48:30] I mean, fair.
[00:48:32] Me too.
[00:48:32] I do love that.
[00:48:33] The whole scene though.
[00:48:34] It's like anytime Yukari is the best character in the show by far.
[00:48:39] Um, uh, she's actually voiced by a, one of a Lucy, Lucy Christensen.
[00:48:43] So Nami, if that voice sounded familiar.
[00:48:46] Okay.
[00:48:48] Um, and I love her, her entire gimmick in the show is like, so she's like the first character that like appears in the show where she literally steals a kid's bike to get to school.
[00:48:58] Cause she's late.
[00:49:00] And like her entire gimmick is she'll walk into class and just like, be like a grouch for home room and like write this like dramatic, like spiel on the chalkboard.
[00:49:08] Mm-hmm .
[00:49:09] But sometimes she'll show up absolutely wasted.
[00:49:11] And just like, that'll be class for the day.
[00:49:15] I love her logic.
[00:49:16] She's like, I'm tired of English.
[00:49:17] We're going to just do math today.
[00:49:19] And she looks at the math book for five minutes and just goes, screw that.
[00:49:23] We're going to gym instead.
[00:49:25] Yep.
[00:49:27] And then we get the classic, like the other teachers looking outside and like, why is Miss Yukari doing gym right now?
[00:49:33] Yeah.
[00:49:35] And it was, she was looking through like the catalog.
[00:49:38] Cause she was going to buy herself something.
[00:49:40] And she was like, but the snow crab though.
[00:49:43] Yeah.
[00:49:44] You'll notice really fast that she is the not the non sensible teacher.
[00:49:49] And, uh, Miss Kurosawa, the other teacher is the sensible teacher.
[00:49:52] Uh, very fast.
[00:49:53] I believe Miss Kurosawa is actually voiced by Monica Rye in one of her first earlier roles.
[00:50:01] Um, what did you think of the father cat?
[00:50:05] I was very confused by that.
[00:50:08] I, I had no, no concept of what the fuck I was seeing.
[00:50:15] So that's exactly the point of that character.
[00:50:19] Um, I'm not, that character is the most ambiguously confusing character in the series.
[00:50:24] Cause no one really knows whether it's supposed to be a real thing or it's just an imaginary imagination thing, but it's the implication that's supposed to be Chio's father.
[00:50:32] Um, the father cat.
[00:50:33] Uh, my favorite part of that.
[00:50:34] I am really Santa Claus.
[00:50:35] The government gives me all my money and I fly at Mach 100.
[00:50:39] Yeah.
[00:50:40] And then he rockets into the air.
[00:50:41] Um, yeah, he, he, um, appears a lot throughout the series, but with two different moments, but you know what my favorite part about him is?
[00:50:48] What's that?
[00:50:49] He's voiced by Jason Douglas.
[00:50:51] Oh yeah.
[00:50:52] Yeah.
[00:50:53] It's beer.
[00:50:54] That's wicked funny.
[00:50:56] Yeah.
[00:50:57] That's like a lot of the old ADV actor, like a lot of the funny actors nowadays started at ADV.
[00:51:02] It was really funny.
[00:51:03] You just hear a bunch of them.
[00:51:05] Um, yeah, if this sounds incredibly disjointed and all over the place, that's because it is because this show that's literally what this show is.
[00:51:14] Um, and then I love the fact that they finally get out of school and they're like, all right, we're going to now go to karaoke and everyone's coming.
[00:51:23] Everyone just kind of high school kids do.
[00:51:25] Yeah.
[00:51:26] And I love the fact that they all get to sing their songs.
[00:51:29] And then like, of course, like the, the running joke is that Yomi's perfect at everything, but then she can't sing for shit.
[00:51:38] Yeah.
[00:51:39] Which was pretty funny.
[00:51:43] Um, I also love the scene early on where they're giving out their final test scores and, uh, uh, Chiyo does very well on the test scores.
[00:51:51] And Mr. Kari is like, yeah, you did very well, but too bad.
[00:51:53] None of this will matter when you get out of here just to put her down because that's what Mr. Kari likes to do.
[00:51:59] So then of course Tomo goes up and she's like, Tomo, you suck.
[00:52:02] And Shelby's like, well, you just said none of this will matter outside of high school.
[00:52:06] And she's like, yeah, well, fuck you basically.
[00:52:09] Yeah.
[00:52:10] She was just like, you're missing the whole point of academics.
[00:52:14] Yeah.
[00:52:15] It's a lot.
[00:52:16] I don't know what the hell, what the hell you're trying to, what the hell you're trying to say about it, but that's pretty strange.
[00:52:24] Miss Yukari has a very, um, she's never wrong personality.
[00:52:29] So like certain stuff like that always happens.
[00:52:32] She seems like a very confrontational person.
[00:52:35] Oh, she's great.
[00:52:36] Especially when she drives in later episodes.
[00:52:40] Yeah.
[00:52:41] I'm gonna have to go and actually watch this.
[00:52:43] Oh yeah.
[00:52:44] It's, it's a wonderful, it's a wonderful watch.
[00:52:47] Like this one episode doesn't do it justice.
[00:52:49] You really have to watch the entire thing to understand why the show is, is what it is.
[00:52:54] Hmm.
[00:52:55] Um, but it ends perfectly where they're, they get out of karaoke and it's like this really nice, like awesome moments.
[00:53:00] Like, ah, that's a sweet ending for Christmas.
[00:53:03] And then the male teacher shows up and he says the most disturbing shit.
[00:53:06] And they're all just like, what the fuck?
[00:53:08] Why are you here?
[00:53:10] That's what he does in the show.
[00:53:11] He just shows up.
[00:53:13] It appears.
[00:53:14] He just kind of appears.
[00:53:15] There is a plot twist with him towards the end of the series.
[00:53:18] I won't spoil, but it is very surprising.
[00:53:21] I don't know why.
[00:53:22] It just, it just reminded me of a scene from the Kaguya movie.
[00:53:25] Uh, what's her face?
[00:53:27] Uh, you know, was that her name?
[00:53:29] Oh, yeah.
[00:53:30] Yeah.
[00:53:31] Yeah.
[00:53:32] Well, she, she shows up and she's like, have you no shame?
[00:53:35] Yeah.
[00:53:36] It's like, have you no footsteps?
[00:53:40] Yeah.
[00:53:40] Um, yeah.
[00:53:42] So that one was very vaguely Christmas related.
[00:53:45] Um, it took place during Christmas, but there was like no Christmas beaming other than the father cat showing up for one minute.
[00:53:52] Yeah.
[00:53:55] Yeah.
[00:53:56] Bit of a stretch.
[00:53:57] I forgot how much, how little Christmas had to do with that episode.
[00:54:00] But I love it.
[00:54:02] It was like the latter half of the episode.
[00:54:03] So, I mean, it wasn't that bad.
[00:54:06] I will say though, like if you watch the, just the opening cinema, the opening, uh, intro to Azumaga Dao, don't you notice how just nonsensical the entire show is just from that intro alone?
[00:54:16] Oh yeah.
[00:54:17] And you know, it's Xander was in the room while it was playing too.
[00:54:20] He was like scratching his head watching it.
[00:54:22] He's like, what the fuck is this?
[00:54:25] Yeah.
[00:54:26] That's, that's the general reaction to most people who watch the show for the first time.
[00:54:29] And they're like, what the fuck?
[00:54:31] Mm hmm.
[00:54:33] Um, so yeah, that was Azumaga Dao.
[00:54:37] Uh, next up we have, uh, the, the wonderful episode three of Sword Art Online.
[00:54:44] Yeah.
[00:54:46] Yeah.
[00:54:47] Yeah.
[00:54:47] We, cause we had to represent seasonal depression in this, in this episode.
[00:54:52] Uh, boy, is this episode depressing.
[00:54:55] Yeah.
[00:54:55] Well, I will, I will preface as someone who has seen no Sword Art Online really, and had no idea what was going on.
[00:55:02] I was more just confused than anything.
[00:55:04] That's fair.
[00:55:05] Um, well, I mean, it happens early enough at least.
[00:55:08] So you're like, you're not missing a ton, but there is a little bit of context that you kind of needed.
[00:55:12] Yeah.
[00:55:12] Like why he was a solo player in the first place and why him joining a guild was significant.
[00:55:17] Yeah.
[00:55:18] Yeah.
[00:55:18] Because I had no idea.
[00:55:19] Otherwise I was just kind of like, oh, he joined a guild and everyone died.
[00:55:24] Yeah.
[00:55:24] Great.
[00:55:26] Cause, cause he had to have, well, like this.
[00:55:29] So this episode three, this episode is like episode four of Full Metal.
[00:55:35] Like it's supposed to be like one of those like overarching, like, this is something that he is constantly wrestling with throughout the series.
[00:55:42] Gotcha.
[00:55:44] Um, so it starts out with like, he's in a pub with a bunch of other players and they're all toasting him because he helped them out with some sort of.
[00:55:57] Some sort of situation, they were out in the field and he came in and saved them.
[00:56:02] And, um, Kirito immediately lies about what level he is.
[00:56:06] Cause he's like, Hey, what level you are?
[00:56:08] He's like a 20.
[00:56:09] And then you see in the corner that he's actually level 40.
[00:56:12] And, um, this, I mean, this is probably one of those context things that you were talking about.
[00:56:18] Like the reason he was lying about it is because earlier, like in the previous episode.
[00:56:23] Um, so he was, he was a beta tester for the game before it, you know, became like, you know, you're, you're stuck in the game kind of thing.
[00:56:32] Um, so he had all this like inside information.
[00:56:34] He knew like where to go for like, you know, for good grinding.
[00:56:38] Like he, he had a huge headstart on everybody else.
[00:56:41] And, um, that created a lot of friction between the former beta testers and the, and the rest of the players.
[00:56:49] And he kind of shouldered that, like, he kind of took on all that hate himself by kind of separating himself from the rest of the beta testers and making himself seem worse than everybody else.
[00:57:00] Mm.
[00:57:01] So, um, so that's why like later on, like somebody calls him a beater.
[00:57:05] And that's like the kind of, it was supposed to be like a combination of beta tester cheater.
[00:57:10] So like, that's what people call him because, uh, because of that.
[00:57:16] Um, so just for context there.
[00:57:21] Um, so yeah, he lies about it.
[00:57:24] And at this point he'd been like the game had been going for about six months at this point.
[00:57:27] And at this point, you know, he was kind of just like, yeah, I've been alone this whole time.
[00:57:30] I should, you know, do something with other people.
[00:57:33] So he decides to join up and it's fine, you know, whatever they have, they have their good time.
[00:57:38] He's with them for, I think, two or three months before all that shit goes down.
[00:57:44] Um, and, uh, I'm trying to think of the best way to say it.
[00:57:52] And basically they, they go through their whole, like, you know, bonding stuff.
[00:57:57] And, uh, the girl is like super scared of dying.
[00:58:01] And ultimately like they end up becoming super close.
[00:58:05] I won't lie.
[00:58:06] The second she said, I'm super scared of dying.
[00:58:08] I was like, Oh, she's going to die.
[00:58:10] Yeah.
[00:58:11] That's kind of the reaction.
[00:58:12] A lot of people get.
[00:58:14] Um, so ultimately they're finally like, Hey, we have enough money to go in and buy, uh, like a base, like a, buy a house for our, our guild.
[00:58:26] So the leader's like, all right, guys, I'm off to go to go finalize it and get the house.
[00:58:32] And one of them has the bright idea of, Hey, let's, let's go out and earn some money for like furnishing and stuff.
[00:58:39] And, um, he's like, Hey, why don't we go to the front lines?
[00:58:43] Cause we'll get the most rewards there after it had already been established at this point that they're mid-level players.
[00:58:49] So that was a smart idea.
[00:58:52] Um, yep.
[00:58:54] And they find a hidden room and with just a single solitary treasure chest in the middle, which is always a good sign.
[00:59:03] Um, they open it up and instantly it's like, Nope, we're, we're stuck.
[00:59:07] Like we, we can't teleport out.
[00:59:09] Uh, and we are completely surrounded by high level monsters.
[00:59:13] And, uh, very, very quickly, everybody, but Kirito dies.
[00:59:19] Yeah.
[00:59:19] And we had that anime trope of, uh, right before, uh, the girl dies, she's trying to say something to him, but you, you can only just see the mouth moving, but you don't hear what it is.
[00:59:30] Yeah.
[00:59:31] Drama.
[00:59:33] Because depression.
[00:59:35] Yes.
[00:59:37] And then, uh, it flashes forward to Christmas because yeah, why not?
[00:59:41] Yeah.
[00:59:41] Oh yeah.
[00:59:41] This is a Christmas episode.
[00:59:43] Yep.
[00:59:45] Um, and he's getting information about like this event boss.
[00:59:50] Um, that is supposed to be, uh, supposed to be able to drop an item that lets you revive a player.
[00:59:55] And he's like, Oh, I'm going to get that item and I'm going to revive the girl, uh, Sachi, because I need to know what she was saying or else I won't be able to move on in any way she performed.
[01:00:07] And then you get the little flashback of him telling the guild leader who went off to buy the house, uh, what happened.
[01:00:16] And like instantly the dude like tells him he's a piece of shit and him at suicide.
[01:00:24] Yeah.
[01:00:25] I was very like, okay.
[01:00:28] Um, yeah, it was, it was pretty quick because because all, all the people in the guild except for Kirito knew each other in real life.
[01:00:33] So that was like all of his real life friends.
[01:00:37] So yeah, it was pretty rough.
[01:00:39] Um, yeah.
[01:00:42] Uh, so yeah.
[01:00:45] Uh, but anyways, he goes and he, uh, he goes to go fight the event boss so he can go get the item and he bumps into actually he bumped into him earlier in the episode too.
[01:00:56] And I'm sure that part was actually confusing for you as well.
[01:01:00] Yes.
[01:01:01] Um, so the whole thing where he's like, where he sees him out in the wild and he's like, like, yeah, I joined a guild.
[01:01:08] I'll see you later.
[01:01:08] And the dude's like, Oh, it was still bugging you.
[01:01:11] Uh, what he was referring to was in the first episode when they found out what was going on with the game.
[01:01:16] Uh, Kirito and Klein had, had hung out and like beforehand and like played for a while.
[01:01:23] And, um, like, like Kirito tried to bring Klein along to, to, to hit up like the good grindy spots and all that other stuff.
[01:01:33] But, um, Klein was like, yeah, but I kind of showed up with my friends from this other game and like, I can't just leave them there.
[01:01:40] And Kirito kind of had the choice of like, okay, do I try to protect all like five of these people and, and get them through and take that responsibility?
[01:01:49] Or do I just go myself? And he ended up just going himself.
[01:01:54] So he like, he's had the guilt about that, that whole time too.
[01:02:00] Um, yeah, there's, there's a lot of like psychological shit in this show.
[01:02:05] A lot of the show actually goes a lot deeper psychologically than a lot of people would expect.
[01:02:11] It's a very divisive show.
[01:02:12] I've noticed just from like some reactions online to it.
[01:02:16] I definitely think it's worth watching.
[01:02:18] And it's not super long.
[01:02:21] No, it's a bit long right now toward for an end of the year watch, but.
[01:02:27] Yeah.
[01:02:28] Well, I mean the, the cool thing about it is like, technically each season is technically a different show.
[01:02:33] True.
[01:02:34] So it's one of those ones that I feel like I might get sucked into and I don't want to do that right now.
[01:02:40] That's fair.
[01:02:43] Um, so yeah, uh, he, they, he's running through the forest, going to fight the event boss and Klein and his group show up and they're like, Hey, like, you shouldn't go and fight this thing by yourself.
[01:02:56] Like, you know, this game is dangerous.
[01:02:58] You could, you could actually die.
[01:03:00] And like, Kirito's ready to throw down.
[01:03:03] He's ready to fuck these guys up.
[01:03:04] Mm hmm.
[01:03:05] To do what he needs to do.
[01:03:07] Um, but then a bunch of other guys show up and they're like, Hey, we somehow knew that you knew where to go.
[01:03:13] So we were following you.
[01:03:15] And, uh, so Klein and his group hold them off while Kirito goes and fights this extremely demented version of Santa Claus, which was the boss.
[01:03:26] Yep.
[01:03:27] It was like, okay.
[01:03:28] Okay.
[01:03:29] Yeah.
[01:03:30] Um, and we don't even see the fight because I mean, it's not really the important part of it, but I mean, I would have liked to see some of it, but whatever.
[01:03:40] Yeah.
[01:03:40] Get a little more Christmas in the Christmas episode.
[01:03:43] Yeah.
[01:03:43] You get a little bit more than just a quick flash of creepy Santa or to see like some kind of crazy shit that he'd pull out of his present bag.
[01:03:51] Um, but anyways, it flashes forward and, uh, he, he walks up to Klein after, after their little fight and he throws the item down and they're like, Oh, this only works if you use it within 10 seconds.
[01:04:06] Yeah.
[01:04:06] Which makes total sense considering the machine that they're in fries your brain after you die.
[01:04:13] Yeah.
[01:04:13] And that's like why, that's like why death is permanent.
[01:04:16] So it's not like, you know, literally months later, you could just use an item and say, Hey, unfry this person's brain and bring them back to the game.
[01:04:23] Cause you, at that point, dude, she's buried like, or, or cremated or whatever the fuck her family decided to do, but she's gone.
[01:04:30] Like, I don't know what you thought was going to happen there, but.
[01:04:33] Yeah.
[01:04:34] But even by game logic, like usually those things don't work that well, that there, that would be too broken.
[01:04:40] Yeah.
[01:04:41] Um, so he's obviously very upset about it and Klein cries a little bit, which he does sometimes.
[01:04:48] Cause he's a good boy.
[01:04:52] Um, and, uh, Kirito is, it goes back to his room and he's all depressed.
[01:04:57] And then, uh, he hears a little chime and he has, uh, uh, some, a new item in his gift box from Sachi.
[01:05:05] And it turns out that she had recorded a little message for him.
[01:05:08] Um, basically saying like, yo, like I knew I was going to die even way back when we had that whole talk about this.
[01:05:16] Like, you know, I went into the fight without like really being into it.
[01:05:21] And I knew I was going to die if I had that mindset.
[01:05:24] So, but you know, you kept telling me I wasn't going to die and I knew that I was going to die.
[01:05:29] So I knew that you'd blame yourself.
[01:05:30] So I recorded this.
[01:05:33] Um, you know, I want you to know that I knew about your level, even if the others didn't.
[01:05:37] And I was actually totally cool with it.
[01:05:39] And, you know, keep, keep, keep moving forward, you know, march on, do what you got to do, get out of the game alive, you know, tell our story kind of thing.
[01:05:51] Um, and then she sings of Rudolph the red nose reindeer, which is kind of emotional.
[01:05:57] Christmas.
[01:05:58] Yes, because yay Christmas.
[01:06:01] Christmas.
[01:06:02] And the episode ends.
[01:06:04] Yeah, very vaguely Christmas related as well.
[01:06:10] Yeah.
[01:06:11] Um, that's the thing with anime Christmas episodes that they're not usually like super focused on the Christmas part of it.
[01:06:18] Christmas is more of a backdrop in a lot of these.
[01:06:21] Yeah, I mean, there are some slice of life that have pretty in depth Christmas episodes with the problem is you have to there's so much fucking baggage that you have to like know beforehand.
[01:06:29] Yeah, you kind of already have to be invested in it.
[01:06:31] This one at least has the benefit of only being the third episode.
[01:06:34] But even then that there's still stuff you're missing by not watching those first two.
[01:06:39] Yeah, honestly.
[01:06:41] Um, so moving on now, I guess we get the last one on this, which, to be fair, the Christmas aspect of this one is a very big stretch.
[01:06:51] Um, I'd say it's a little bit firmer than the previous two, though.
[01:06:57] True.
[01:06:57] The Christmas thing is a big part of the final act of this film.
[01:07:02] But for the most part, it's very, um, I mean, it's definitely focused on the romance aspect of it.
[01:07:11] But like literally from the start of the movie, it's a countdown to Christmas.
[01:07:14] So, I mean, that's always kind of in the forefront.
[01:07:19] True.
[01:07:20] So for those wondering, we're talking about Kaguya-sama, the first kiss never ends, which is the, um, as of now, the most recent, uh, entry in the Kaguya-sama series, uh, anime that is.
[01:07:33] Um, it takes place directly following the conclusion of the series with, uh, season three.
[01:07:41] And it kind of basically, for those who have not seen Kaguya-sama, it is a series that is based around these two characters, Mayuki Shiragone and, uh, Kaguya Shinomori, who, um, are Kaguya Shinomiya, um, who are the president and vice president of the, uh, the
[01:08:03] the school's, uh, the student council or whatever, um, for the school that they're in.
[01:08:09] And they are both hopelessly in love with each other, but they are too proud to admit it to each other.
[01:08:14] So the entire gimmick of the show is they're basically in this love of war, as the show likes to call it, um, where they're basically trying to convince the other person to confess first.
[01:08:24] And the shenanigans get wild.
[01:08:26] The narrator is the best character, and he gets so exasperated with them as it goes on.
[01:08:31] It's, it's incredibly entertaining.
[01:08:33] It is.
[01:08:35] It's, it's, I'm pretty sure it is what I'd call peak rom-com.
[01:08:39] Like, when I think rom-com, this is probably, like, what I would recommend anyone to watch.
[01:08:44] Also subtly depressing.
[01:08:45] There is some dark shit in this, uh, series.
[01:08:48] Yeah.
[01:08:49] And even, even in this particular movie, we kind of delve into that a little bit.
[01:08:53] Well, this movie is kind of the, the final, the big, um, reveal of a lot of things.
[01:08:58] Not everything, but a lot of, uh, aspects of these characters.
[01:09:05] And, yeah, so, this, uh, movie, right after the end of, um, the series, so, Kaguya and Mayuki have their, the big damn kiss on top of the water tower at the end and finally confess their love for each other.
[01:09:19] And this movie takes place basically right after it, where we, we find out that Kaguya is kind of mentally unstable.
[01:09:30] I mean, we kind of already knew that.
[01:09:31] If you've been watching up to this point, you kind of already knew that.
[01:09:35] Yeah.
[01:09:35] This movie, though, takes it.
[01:09:36] We're all pretty bonkers.
[01:09:38] Yeah.
[01:09:38] This movie takes it to another level, though, by giving us the, one of the funniest metaphors in the series where we see inside Kaguya's brain during, um, through inside Kaguya's subconscious, we get like a view of what's going on throughout this movie.
[01:09:54] And the implication is, it's literally a courtroom where her three different personality types just kind of exist.
[01:10:02] And they're fighting with each other to the, and the fights are so ridiculous to the point where the narrator has to point out, by the way, this is just a metaphor.
[01:10:10] Like, this isn't what actually happens.
[01:10:12] Yeah.
[01:10:14] But after she gets the first kiss, she kind of devolves into this like childlike personality where she's in the show, she's portrayed as this little like chibi version of herself.
[01:10:26] And everyone just kind of goes with it.
[01:10:28] Well, it starts with Hyasaka kind of explaining to her that she's an idiot for slipping some tongue with that first kiss.
[01:10:35] I love how she like, the way they imply that too, where she's like, well, I got like this.
[01:10:40] And then it just cuts away where Husska's like, I don't want to hear it as her tongue's hanging out.
[01:10:45] What was it?
[01:10:46] What did they call her?
[01:10:47] A super nympho lust monster?
[01:10:49] Yeah.
[01:10:50] Yep.
[01:10:53] I love it too.
[01:10:54] Cause it's, um, Kaguya is voiced by Alexis Tipton, who was basically the current day equivalent for Laura Bailey these days.
[01:11:01] And she does such a great job with, with the role.
[01:11:04] Oh, for sure.
[01:11:09] Yeah.
[01:11:10] So she's essentially like, she's essentially at this point, she's kind of having a mental breakdown because she can't handle all of the emotions going on right now.
[01:11:19] And she's kind of reverted to this weird childlike persona of herself, which is basically how she's acting on the outside while her emotions on the inside are having a, their own courtroom battle.
[01:11:33] And I love when she shows up to the classroom and everyone's just like, oh, look, it's little Kaguya.
[01:11:38] This is what happens when she gets really stressed about something.
[01:11:42] Yeah.
[01:11:44] And they just kind of, they keep going with it.
[01:11:46] And I love like all the characters are like reacting to this, like what the hell?
[01:11:50] And, uh, Mayuki, who is like, obviously still really confused about what's going on.
[01:11:55] He then proceeds to revert himself to like the same kind of personality.
[01:12:00] And they have this weird, like moment where like the two chibi forms are just like saying each other's names over and over again.
[01:12:07] Yeah.
[01:12:08] And then we get the greatest payoff to it as well.
[01:12:11] Where the whole time you see the two chibi characters going on, but then we cut to, um, Ino walking into the room and she sees what's actually going on where it's just the two of them like flailing around like idiots.
[01:12:22] Yep.
[01:12:22] It was pretty ridiculous.
[01:12:24] Yeah.
[01:12:25] Um, I also love how this movie starts with, um, with Ishigami flipping through middle jump.
[01:12:31] And he's like, Hey, you know, he is like, they have this rule where middle jump can have sex scenes as long as it's four pages or less.
[01:12:40] It's incredibly obscene.
[01:12:43] Everyone's sex crazed and I hate it.
[01:12:46] Ishigami is my spirit animal.
[01:12:47] I swear to God.
[01:12:48] Sometimes Ishigami is the best character in the show that isn't the narrator.
[01:12:52] Yeah.
[01:12:53] A lot of the, honestly, I love all the characters are great.
[01:12:56] Like I love Ishigami.
[01:12:57] I love, you know, I love, uh, Chika, Kaguya, Mayuki.
[01:13:01] They're all great.
[01:13:02] Honestly.
[01:13:03] For real.
[01:13:04] Even the, the random like couple that are constantly being called on for advice.
[01:13:08] Yeah.
[01:13:09] Uh, I won't spoil what happens with them later on, but it is, they, they're, they go on until the end of the series and it is crazy.
[01:13:16] They're going to, they're going to have a baby, ain't they?
[01:13:18] Cause I find out later on in the movie that the doctor is like, Hey, like I, I had a kid at 17.
[01:13:24] My son had a kid at 17 and then my grandson is 17 and then it flashes to that guy.
[01:13:29] And it's like, Oh shit.
[01:13:29] Yeah.
[01:13:30] Yeah.
[01:13:30] I'm not going to say anything, but, um, you know, we've learned from Oshinoko.
[01:13:35] Aka has very interesting ideas about stuff.
[01:13:38] So, um, yeah.
[01:13:40] Yeah.
[01:13:41] Well, I still need that.
[01:13:42] Well, still waiting for that rest of that dub to come out.
[01:13:45] Cause I'm invested.
[01:13:46] Yeah.
[01:13:48] Um, yeah.
[01:13:50] So we go through all this great.
[01:13:51] Well, actually, what'd you think of, um, the opening theme for a movie?
[01:13:56] I thought it was good.
[01:13:58] I, I don't know.
[01:14:00] I, cause I like all the openings for Kaguya.
[01:14:03] Well, they're all done by the same guy.
[01:14:06] Yeah.
[01:14:06] Which have you ever actually like seen him?
[01:14:09] Yeah.
[01:14:09] He's crazy.
[01:14:13] Especially like when you actually see him like doing one of the songs, it's like, holy shit.
[01:14:17] Like, yeah.
[01:14:17] Somebody is stuck in like the seventies.
[01:14:20] If I had to rank, well, I mean, his style is so great though.
[01:14:23] But if I had to rank them, like the original love is war song is by far the best.
[01:14:28] I think love is show.
[01:14:30] The theme from the movie might be my second favorite.
[01:14:32] Then girl, girl.
[01:14:33] And then daddy, daddy do.
[01:14:35] Yes.
[01:14:35] That's my song.
[01:14:37] I don't remember that which, which is which, but I think the second one is my favorite.
[01:14:42] Daddy, daddy do.
[01:14:44] Okay.
[01:14:45] And then girl, girls.
[01:14:46] That's the name.
[01:14:46] And yeah.
[01:14:48] Well, the whole, the theme is literally daddy, daddy do.
[01:14:51] Daddy.
[01:14:52] Like, yeah, I like that one a lot.
[01:14:55] That's but, and I feel like, um, like depending on like what, like, um, like the intro itself
[01:15:02] along with the song, like, like, I just feel like the pairing that one is, is the best in
[01:15:08] my opinion.
[01:15:09] They're all really good.
[01:15:10] The intros go way harder than they need to.
[01:15:12] And that's kind of why I love them.
[01:15:14] For sure.
[01:15:15] For sure.
[01:15:15] I mean, this series in music though is always like great though.
[01:15:18] I mean, like, I think it's like episode four ends with the Chica dance from season one,
[01:15:23] which only happens once.
[01:15:25] It never gets brought back, but it is a literal like five minute song of just Chica dancing.
[01:15:32] And that's the credits.
[01:15:34] Yeah.
[01:15:34] It's pretty great.
[01:15:35] With some of the most fluid fucking animation in the entire series.
[01:15:40] Yeah.
[01:15:40] Right.
[01:15:41] It's funny how a lot of like the end themes and stuff from these kinds of shows tend to
[01:15:46] have that.
[01:15:47] A lot of times, a lot of the times they're done by different studios and that's why they
[01:15:51] have different budgets.
[01:15:56] Oh, we should probably bring up to that.
[01:15:59] Mayuki's voice actor is Aaron Discomute.
[01:16:02] And this was actually his first time back because he had missed the initial run of season
[01:16:07] three because he was going through vocal issues at the time.
[01:16:11] And he was replaced by a different character, a different actor.
[01:16:14] I forgot their name right now.
[01:16:18] But he was back in full force for this movie and he does a great job as always.
[01:16:22] I am excited to see him as Glorio in Dragon Ball Diamond.
[01:16:26] Yeah.
[01:16:27] He's one of those actors that it's crazy that we've actually seen him grow up because I mean,
[01:16:31] he was originally like the original Alphonse in the original Fullmetal Alchemist back when
[01:16:39] he was younger and then his voice dropped and he had to change a lot of his roles around.
[01:16:45] And I think he's honestly adapted into such a cool, a good actor these days.
[01:16:50] Hmm.
[01:16:53] For sure.
[01:16:57] So yeah, this is where we get into like the Ice Princess Kaguya stuff, right?
[01:17:00] Yeah.
[01:17:01] So in basically we find out in Kaguya's mind her, the Ice Queen or Ice Kaguya personality
[01:17:08] was Kaguya's personality before she met Mayuki, where she was just completely, completely cold
[01:17:15] and bitter and just cut off from everybody.
[01:17:18] You understand more as the series goes on.
[01:17:21] You really read into the Shinomia family's background.
[01:17:28] But she basically had this whole heartless kind of just like cold personality and like
[01:17:33] she had no time for anybody.
[01:17:35] It was very just...
[01:17:37] Basically, she was an Ice Queen, as the title suggests.
[01:17:42] Essentially, they're arguing in her head over what's going on in her life.
[01:17:47] And basically, Ice Kaguya's like, oh yeah, you think you're perfect?
[01:17:50] Well, I'm going to prove that it's just an act and he won't like all of us.
[01:17:55] And so she basically takes control again.
[01:17:59] All metaphorically.
[01:17:59] It's actually Kaguya just going through a fucking mental crisis as this happens a lot
[01:18:04] in this series.
[01:18:05] And once she wakes up, because she ends up falling asleep towards the end of their whatever
[01:18:12] her and Mayuki were doing in the last scene.
[01:18:15] Yeah.
[01:18:16] And she wakes up and the big key thing with Kaguya is you can tell what personality she
[01:18:22] is by how her hair is styled.
[01:18:24] And when her hair is not tied up in its like bun thing that she has going on and it's just
[01:18:32] down, that means she's in the Ice Kaguya-like personality.
[01:18:36] Yeah.
[01:18:36] And basically, she immediately just like...
[01:18:40] Mayuki's like, just like, hey, we should talk about what happened.
[01:18:42] She's like, basically like, why should we talk about what happened?
[01:18:44] She's like, I don't like you.
[01:18:46] And basically moves on on her own, even though she secretly does.
[01:18:49] Yeah.
[01:18:50] She's like, it meant nothing.
[01:18:50] I'd kiss anyone, I feel like.
[01:18:52] In fact, I feel like kissing you right now.
[01:18:54] Kiss me.
[01:18:56] Yeah.
[01:18:56] Basically, what's going on is Kaguya is trying to prove that...
[01:19:03] She's trying to prove her suspicion that Mayuki only likes her for one personality and not
[01:19:08] who she really is, which is all her personalities together.
[01:19:11] Because she's a complicated individual.
[01:19:13] And she's basically trying to...
[01:19:15] Basically, like, Ice Kaguya is trying to prove that she can make him love her the same way.
[01:19:23] And if he doesn't, then she's going to move on and give up on him, basically.
[01:19:28] The problem is, though, her way of going about it is really broken.
[01:19:31] And she also doesn't realize that...
[01:19:34] We also learned that...
[01:19:35] Well, we've kind of learned it over the course of the series, but Mayuki is also kind of a
[01:19:39] broken person mentally.
[01:19:42] Yeah.
[01:19:43] Not to the same...
[01:19:44] He's got mommy issues.
[01:19:45] He does.
[01:19:47] He does.
[01:19:48] We still...
[01:19:49] And we never get...
[01:19:50] I'm not going to spoil too much, but we never really get a conclusion to that, which is kind of a bummer.
[01:19:56] Yeah.
[01:19:57] I was wondering if there was ever going to be any, like, tie-in with that whole storyline.
[01:20:03] But...
[01:20:03] Yeah.
[01:20:04] Because, like, the few times we see Mayuki at this point in the series, they're living in, like, straight-up poverty.
[01:20:09] Like, they have this really shitty apartment.
[01:20:12] Him and his sister have to share a room because that's all they can afford.
[01:20:15] Like, their literal wall is a bedsheet.
[01:20:18] Mm-hmm.
[01:20:19] And he is...
[01:20:20] The reason why he always looks dead inside is because he's, like, never sleeping.
[01:20:23] And he's got the perpetual tired bangs.
[01:20:25] Or tired bags under his eyes because he never...
[01:20:27] He's always, like, trying to, like, do 100%.
[01:20:30] Yeah.
[01:20:32] And because of that, he overthinks everything.
[01:20:36] And while he overthinks things, he doesn't pick up on social cues.
[01:20:39] Like, there's a point where after this, he's walking Kaguya home.
[01:20:44] And she's doing this dramatic, like, taking...
[01:20:47] She's like, oh, I forgot my gloves.
[01:20:49] Saying this very, like, dramatically and loud.
[01:20:52] And then she starts flailing her arm around.
[01:20:54] And she's like, my hands are really cold right now.
[01:20:57] I can't believe I forgot my gloves.
[01:21:00] I wish I'd had something to warm my hands with.
[01:21:03] And Mayuki's, like, in his head going, like, what does she mean by this?
[01:21:07] Yes.
[01:21:08] Make try to crack the code.
[01:21:09] Yeah, like, he's overthinking this significantly.
[01:21:12] And she's being overdramatic.
[01:21:14] It's literally two people just...
[01:21:17] The entire joke of the series is continuing here where it's just literally two people hopelessly in love for each other.
[01:21:23] That are just freaking overdoing it and bailing at life.
[01:21:27] Like, unlike usual.
[01:21:29] But eventually she's like, she just gets tired of his nonsense.
[01:21:32] And she's like, you know what?
[01:21:33] Screw it.
[01:21:34] And calls a limo and just gets driven home.
[01:21:37] Yep.
[01:21:37] And then they immediately pull their gloves on.
[01:21:40] Yeah.
[01:21:41] And then Mayuki's like, I don't get it.
[01:21:42] This woman is confusing.
[01:21:45] Hmm.
[01:21:46] Oh, we didn't mention the...
[01:21:47] So, I forget her name, but the girl that Ishigami is into.
[01:21:51] Where she, like...
[01:21:53] She invites him and Miko.
[01:21:57] Miko, yep.
[01:21:58] Yeah.
[01:21:59] It invites both of them to her Christmas party.
[01:22:01] And, like, there's, like, a whole, like, funny thing where, like...
[01:22:05] Like, at first, Ishigami assumes that it's, like, a one-on-one hangout thing.
[01:22:09] And then Miko is like...
[01:22:12] Like, oh, I can't believe I'm seeing this debauchery right in front of me.
[01:22:14] And she's like, no, no, I was going to invite you, too.
[01:22:16] And she's like, I thought he's some...
[01:22:18] Yeah.
[01:22:19] No, no, no, a bunch of people.
[01:22:20] An orgy?
[01:22:21] Yeah.
[01:22:22] I fucking love that.
[01:22:23] Nobody but you thought that.
[01:22:25] I love Miko as a character.
[01:22:27] Because she is, like...
[01:22:28] She is, like, so prim and proper about everything.
[01:22:30] Like, she's the typical, like, straight-edge, like, always, like, proper, like, character.
[01:22:35] But then, like, secretly, when you actually look into her brain, you realize she's just a fucking nymphomaniac.
[01:22:40] She's incredibly depraved.
[01:22:42] Yeah.
[01:22:45] Yeah, I love that logic, though.
[01:22:46] She immediately just, like, goes...
[01:22:47] She's like, a threesome?
[01:22:52] Every character...
[01:22:53] Actually, thinking about it now, like, literally every character in this series is kind of mentally broken.
[01:22:58] Oh, yeah.
[01:22:59] For sure.
[01:23:00] But, I mean, I feel like that's just kind of, like, a slice-of-life thing.
[01:23:04] Yeah, this one's a bit on the extreme side.
[01:23:07] But...
[01:23:07] It just depends on whether or not they want to be incredibly broken in, like, a funny way,
[01:23:13] or incredibly broken as in, like, Fruits Basket.
[01:23:17] Which is...
[01:23:18] Yeah.
[01:23:19] Less funny.
[01:23:21] So, Japanese name.
[01:23:23] But the character that you're thinking of is...
[01:23:28] Tsubane?
[01:23:30] Tsubane.
[01:23:31] Tsubane.
[01:23:31] Yeah, I can't do Japanese names at all.
[01:23:34] But, yeah.
[01:23:35] Her.
[01:23:38] Their arc...
[01:23:39] I won't spoil it, but their arc gets very...
[01:23:41] You see a brief glimpse of it towards the end of this movie, but they have a whole arc that doesn't get covered.
[01:23:46] I didn't catch that the first time I watched this, like, last year.
[01:23:49] And, uh...
[01:23:51] Yeah.
[01:23:51] There's something more there, and I'm really upset that we didn't get that.
[01:23:54] Because, honestly, I'm more upset that they included it in the movie instead of just saving it for season four.
[01:24:00] Because now it's, like...
[01:24:02] I want to know.
[01:24:04] Well, that is actually kind of how they did it in the manga.
[01:24:07] Because the...
[01:24:08] So this movie covers the Snow Queen arc of the manga, which I'm glad they did, because...
[01:24:13] I don't think that arc would have been done well if they broke it up into multiple episodes, which...
[01:24:17] I'm still annoyed Crunchy broke this movie up into four parts, but that's besides the point.
[01:24:24] They actually...
[01:24:25] The arc immediately following the Snow Queen is, like, a flashback arc that explains what everyone else was doing during Kaguya and Mayuki's...
[01:24:34] Bullshit that they were doing.
[01:24:36] So we do find out immediately next to what happened there, but...
[01:24:42] Gotcha.
[01:24:43] It's kind of sad.
[01:24:45] It's pretty sad, I will say.
[01:24:47] Oh, it is?
[01:24:49] Yeah.
[01:24:51] There's not...
[01:24:52] The best boy?
[01:24:53] I want him to have a happy ending.
[01:24:57] Well, he...
[01:24:58] I won't spoil anything.
[01:25:00] That's all I'll say.
[01:25:00] Okay.
[01:25:01] Okay.
[01:25:02] Ishigami deserves the world.
[01:25:04] He is the best boy.
[01:25:09] Yeah, so there's all this stuff going on, and...
[01:25:12] Basically, throughout this entire thing, we have this constant, like...
[01:25:15] I love the narrator, because he's constantly, like...
[01:25:19] He's, like...
[01:25:21] Winner of this fight.
[01:25:23] Nobody.
[01:25:24] Yep.
[01:25:30] So what was the...
[01:25:31] The next part was, like, the whole thing with the lunch, right?
[01:25:33] Like, she's like, oh, I'm so hungry.
[01:25:36] Yeah.
[01:25:37] Yeah.
[01:25:37] So she goes up to, like...
[01:25:39] Because Mayuki always has these really awesome lunches that he makes himself, because he's poor.
[01:25:43] So he has to do...
[01:25:44] He had to, like, learn himself, rather than, like, Kage, who was from a rich family.
[01:25:50] But she's just sat on the inside, but she always was pampered growing up.
[01:25:55] So she kind of...
[01:25:56] She wants Mayuki to share his lunch with her.
[01:25:58] But, of course, she's being...
[01:25:59] He, once again, is overthinking this.
[01:26:02] And because she's being overly dramatic, like, I am so hungry, I forgot my lunch.
[01:26:07] Like, Chika's immediately like, oh, you can have some of mine.
[01:26:09] And she's like, go away.
[01:26:10] Not right now.
[01:26:12] Yeah.
[01:26:14] And she, like, ends up, like...
[01:26:15] Both Fujiwara and Miko Ino offer her some of their lunches.
[01:26:22] And she, like, shits on both of them.
[01:26:24] And they both run away crying.
[01:26:26] Well, she tells Chika that she's going to get fat.
[01:26:29] And then Chika immediately, dramatically runs out of the room crying.
[01:26:33] And then she, like, shits on Ino as well, who's trying to be nice in one of Ino's rare, like, being very nice moments.
[01:26:40] And then cuts to Ino running out of the room in the same exact animation.
[01:26:44] I'm just like, this is great.
[01:26:45] This is all going so well.
[01:26:47] Yep.
[01:26:48] And then, like, by the time...
[01:26:49] And then he still doesn't get it.
[01:26:51] Yeah, well, by the time he finally does, like, just the way he goes about it, he's like,
[01:26:54] I'm going to feed you my sausage open wide.
[01:26:59] Yeah.
[01:27:00] It's like, Jesus Christ.
[01:27:03] Akka's writing is very questionable.
[01:27:05] Well, it's great.
[01:27:06] He's a very good writer, but my God, he put some questionable shit in there.
[01:27:11] Yeah.
[01:27:12] Yeah.
[01:27:13] Is this where we got the perfume scene?
[01:27:15] I believe that happens next.
[01:27:20] Oh, shit.
[01:27:21] Did that happen before or after this lunch thing?
[01:27:23] I think it happens after this, because then she's trying to...
[01:27:27] No.
[01:27:27] No, I think it happened before, because right, like, as he's, like, trying to, like, feed
[01:27:31] her the thing, and she, like, wanted...
[01:27:33] That's when he passes out and goes to the hospital.
[01:27:35] Right.
[01:27:36] So I think the perfume thing did happen first.
[01:27:38] Well, yeah, because the perfume scene is great, because, like, she's trying to seduce
[01:27:41] him, and she has this really fancy perfume.
[01:27:44] Um, the problem is, though, it's, like, the...
[01:27:48] The logic is, it's, like, it's a special perfume that has to be, like, a certain...
[01:27:52] It takes a certain time to kick in properly.
[01:27:55] And, uh...
[01:27:55] Because if you smell it at first, it smells like old lady, as she says.
[01:27:59] Mm-hmm.
[01:27:59] Um, but because it's too early...
[01:28:02] Um...
[01:28:04] Well, what's funny is, she gets caught putting the perfume on by Miko, who's, like, from
[01:28:08] improper, always following the rules.
[01:28:10] And then she traumatizes Miko by being, like, getting up in her face and putting the perfume
[01:28:15] on Miko to make her go away.
[01:28:17] Which I always was, like...
[01:28:18] I was, like, goddamn, this poor girl cannot, like, catch a break sometimes.
[01:28:22] She's, like, this smells like my menopausal aunties.
[01:28:25] Yeah.
[01:28:26] And then Kaguya has that whole, like, realization.
[01:28:29] And then she's, like, well, it's because it takes...
[01:28:30] You need to take the time.
[01:28:31] It has to set properly.
[01:28:33] It takes 30 minutes.
[01:28:35] Yeah.
[01:28:36] And then Mayuki shows up, and she's, like, oh, no.
[01:28:38] It's too soon.
[01:28:39] So she starts running away from him.
[01:28:41] Like, jumping through windows and stuff with a...
[01:28:46] Hayasaka's helping her the whole time.
[01:28:48] Yeah, some crazy, like, ninja shit she's pulling.
[01:28:51] Like, what the fuck?
[01:28:53] And, like, the whole time, like, Mayuki's chasing her.
[01:28:55] And she's, like, no, it's not time yet.
[01:28:57] I'm not ready.
[01:28:58] And then he's, of course, overthinking, like, oh, so you're not interested.
[01:29:01] I see.
[01:29:02] And she's, like, no, it's just not time.
[01:29:04] And then, like, we get the narrator's explanation that because she's been running,
[01:29:08] her body heat has increased.
[01:29:10] And because of that, the timer has accelerated.
[01:29:11] So right now, she smells good.
[01:29:14] And he says in that really dramatic Ian Sinclair way, which is amazing.
[01:29:18] Yeah.
[01:29:19] But, of course, by then, Mayuki's just not interested anymore.
[01:29:21] And she's like, goddammit.
[01:29:23] Hmm.
[01:29:25] Yeah.
[01:29:25] It was pretty comical, the whole thing.
[01:29:28] Yeah.
[01:29:29] Yeah.
[01:29:30] Then, of course, he ends up going to the hospital after the food thing because he's been...
[01:29:34] He hasn't been sleeping and he's been basically working himself to death.
[01:29:38] As he does.
[01:29:43] And she kind of goes to the hospital.
[01:29:45] And this is where, like, we see the cracks start to form on Ice Kagiya's whole personality
[01:29:48] where, like, she realizes, like, this clearly isn't working.
[01:29:53] Mm-hmm.
[01:29:54] And then, like...
[01:29:55] Which is...
[01:29:56] He has, like, that whole, like, heart-to-heart with the doctor.
[01:29:59] And I love how the doctor keeps trying to give him, like, man-to-man advice.
[01:30:01] And then the nurse just keeps talking over him.
[01:30:03] He just can't get it out.
[01:30:05] Yeah.
[01:30:05] Because the doctor's advice is pretty bad, too.
[01:30:08] It's like...
[01:30:09] Mm-hmm.
[01:30:10] Just be a man.
[01:30:11] Like, pretty much is what he was saying.
[01:30:13] See, I love the side characters in the show sometimes, too.
[01:30:16] Like that.
[01:30:17] Because, like, you think back to, like, season...
[01:30:18] I think it's, like, season two where Chika goes to the ramen bar and just chats with the
[01:30:21] guy at the ramen bar.
[01:30:22] I love the ramen guys.
[01:30:24] They're so good.
[01:30:26] I love any scene with Chika on her own.
[01:30:29] Like, the one thing I will say the anime does way better than the manga is because Chika
[01:30:33] is voiced by...
[01:30:35] Who's Chika's voice actress?
[01:30:39] It's gonna bother me.
[01:30:40] I know exactly who it is, but I can't remember the name.
[01:30:46] Jade Saxon.
[01:30:48] She just has such a great, like, voice for the character.
[01:30:51] And it puts so much expression into it.
[01:30:53] She's funny in the manga, but without that characterization, she doesn't come off the same
[01:30:58] way she does in the anime.
[01:31:00] Well, it's like that with, like, all the characters.
[01:31:02] Especially the narrator.
[01:31:03] Like, that's why I feel like I'm probably gonna end up reading the manga at some point.
[01:31:08] Maybe after I finish Dr. Slump so I have another kind of, like, funnier manga to read.
[01:31:13] Um, but...
[01:31:14] That's funny, funny sometimes.
[01:31:16] It's also very depressing.
[01:31:18] True.
[01:31:19] But, um...
[01:31:21] I just feel like I'm not gonna like it as much as the anime because the anime hams it up
[01:31:25] so much and I love that.
[01:31:27] See, Aka's art makes up for it.
[01:31:30] Like, his artwork and, like, styling and his writing in general just, it really works.
[01:31:34] That's fair.
[01:31:37] Um, so what happens after the, uh...
[01:31:41] After the hospital scene?
[01:31:42] Well, they were having the whole, like, talk with the doctor and he was explaining, like,
[01:31:46] you know, why he has to do the things that he does and all this other stuff.
[01:31:49] And then you see that, um...
[01:31:52] Hyasuke and Kaguya are spying.
[01:31:55] They're eavesdropping on that whole conversation.
[01:31:59] Um...
[01:32:00] So that was kind of where Kaguya's like,
[01:32:02] Wow, I think I've been kind of an asshole in this situation.
[01:32:05] Um, so they go back.
[01:32:08] I think this is where, like, the phone conversation, like, the text conversation happens.
[01:32:13] Where Hyasuke is, like, pretending that she's, like, playing at being Miyuki.
[01:32:21] But she's really, like, conveying their actual conversation through her.
[01:32:25] Yeah.
[01:32:26] Yeah, Hyakusa is, like, her character at this point is very interesting.
[01:32:33] Because...
[01:32:35] Because...
[01:32:35] We learn later on there's a lot more with her character than meets the eye.
[01:32:39] But, like, right now there's kind of, like, a bit of resentment between the two of them.
[01:32:44] Mm-hmm.
[01:32:44] Um, that isn't fully explained yet.
[01:32:47] And you'll...
[01:32:47] We find out in the manga later what is actually going on there.
[01:32:50] But, like, the whole time it's, like...
[01:32:51] A lot of the times you feel like Hyakusa is, like, actually, um...
[01:32:54] Trying to sabotage...
[01:32:55] Uh, Kaguya at times.
[01:32:58] Mm-hmm.
[01:33:00] Well, it's also, like, throughout the series, like, she kind of developed some level of feelings for the presidents as well.
[01:33:08] To a degree.
[01:33:10] Um, it kind of goes away after this arc.
[01:33:12] Um, in all honesty.
[01:33:14] And I'm also not really sure if that was real or she was just, like, using her...
[01:33:19] It was all part of her diversion, but I'm not really sure.
[01:33:23] I think it was mostly just her, like, kind of being, uh, upset that she can't, like, just be a girl.
[01:33:29] And, um...
[01:33:30] Yes, which is, uh...
[01:33:31] Also upset that she couldn't live up to all that shit she was talking about.
[01:33:34] Oh, I could get him easy.
[01:33:36] Yeah.
[01:33:38] Yeah, until she realizes Mayuki is his own special case of weird.
[01:33:42] Yeah.
[01:33:43] Um, because we also get that scene where Mayuki's chilling outside with, um...
[01:33:48] The other girl.
[01:33:50] Um...
[01:33:51] What's her name?
[01:33:55] Where who was?
[01:33:56] Um, Mayuki's chilling outside with, um...
[01:33:59] Maki.
[01:34:00] Yeah, um...
[01:34:01] Yeah, there's, uh...
[01:34:02] Kagi's cousin.
[01:34:03] Yes.
[01:34:04] And their arc is also great later on.
[01:34:07] Um, but at this point, she's also...
[01:34:11] Mayuki has a lot of people interested in him, I should say.
[01:34:15] Mm-hmm.
[01:34:16] Um...
[01:34:16] Yeah, I love how they're having that whole talk.
[01:34:18] And he's still pulling the whole,
[01:34:20] Oh, my friend this, my friend that.
[01:34:21] And then she's like,
[01:34:23] Wait a minute.
[01:34:25] You're really talking about you and Auntie Kaguya, aren't you?
[01:34:28] And he's like...
[01:34:29] Yeah.
[01:34:30] And she, like, freaks the fuck out.
[01:34:32] Like, I wish I never knew this.
[01:34:34] Like, you're supposed to be my friend.
[01:34:36] Yeah, she's like,
[01:34:37] Ew, I don't want to hear about this.
[01:34:39] Blah, blah, blah.
[01:34:40] Um...
[01:34:41] I love how she runs to Ishikami.
[01:34:43] She's just...
[01:34:43] She's like, you're my only friend.
[01:34:45] And he's like,
[01:34:45] I'm not the man from Miss Stealya Man.
[01:34:48] Yeah.
[01:34:49] He is such a relatable character.
[01:34:51] I love him.
[01:34:55] Anytime he's on screen is great.
[01:34:57] Especially after you see his...
[01:34:59] Well, we already did see his arc.
[01:35:00] It was in season three.
[01:35:01] Where you just realized how sad it is.
[01:35:04] Yeah.
[01:35:04] For sure.
[01:35:08] Um...
[01:35:08] Yeah, but after that,
[01:35:09] he kind of gets left out there.
[01:35:10] And he ends up falling asleep against a tree.
[01:35:12] And of course, Kaguya finds him.
[01:35:15] And we still get more...
[01:35:17] This is where we get that really sad narration
[01:35:19] from Ian Sinclair.
[01:35:20] Where basically,
[01:35:21] they still lead to absolutely nothing.
[01:35:23] Because they...
[01:35:24] Both of them are just completely
[01:35:25] thinking about this the wrong way.
[01:35:27] And it's where
[01:35:28] Ian Sinclair is just like,
[01:35:29] the winner.
[01:35:31] He just kind of reluctantly goes,
[01:35:33] Kaguya.
[01:35:34] And it's kind of like,
[01:35:35] he's like,
[01:35:35] I guess.
[01:35:36] I'm not really sure anymore.
[01:35:38] Yeah.
[01:35:40] Um...
[01:35:40] So I think this is probably the point
[01:35:41] where we move into like,
[01:35:42] the actual Christmas stuff.
[01:35:44] Yes.
[01:35:45] The point where we actually get to the...
[01:35:47] The final conclusion of this arc.
[01:35:50] Where, um...
[01:35:51] Mika basically is throwing a big, um...
[01:35:56] She's throwing a, like a...
[01:35:57] An official, um...
[01:35:59] A big Christmas party for everybody.
[01:36:01] But Miko and, uh...
[01:36:02] Ishigami can't go
[01:36:04] because they're going to, uh...
[01:36:06] The other party at the same time.
[01:36:08] Which...
[01:36:09] We don't see.
[01:36:10] We basically just find out.
[01:36:12] We find out about later on.
[01:36:13] After the fact.
[01:36:15] But they're out of the picture now,
[01:36:17] basically, for the rest of the movie.
[01:36:20] Yeah.
[01:36:21] Um...
[01:36:22] So we get to the party.
[01:36:24] And there's the whole thing about
[01:36:25] they're doing kind of a, um...
[01:36:28] They're doing a, uh...
[01:36:29] Sort of, um...
[01:36:30] A Secret Santa thing.
[01:36:31] Where they all have to get presents
[01:36:32] for each other.
[01:36:33] And they'll pass them around.
[01:36:35] And Mayuki is really trying to find
[01:36:37] a present for, uh...
[01:36:39] Kaguya.
[01:36:39] But because she's rich,
[01:36:41] he has no idea what to get her.
[01:36:43] Yeah.
[01:36:44] And the thing he settles on
[01:36:45] is really funny in hindsight.
[01:36:48] But...
[01:36:49] Yeah.
[01:36:49] Well, I mean,
[01:36:50] they both brought presents
[01:36:52] for, like,
[01:36:53] the Secret Santa thing.
[01:36:55] Uh...
[01:36:55] I think they were...
[01:36:56] I think, like,
[01:36:57] the idea was that they were gonna...
[01:36:58] Like, if they happened
[01:36:59] to get each other,
[01:37:00] they were gonna switch
[01:37:00] into the regular...
[01:37:01] the real gift on the sly,
[01:37:03] but...
[01:37:03] Um...
[01:37:04] Yeah.
[01:37:05] But, uh...
[01:37:07] They both had...
[01:37:07] had gifts prepared
[01:37:08] in case they got other people.
[01:37:10] Which they, of course,
[01:37:11] inevitably do.
[01:37:13] Mm-hmm.
[01:37:14] Because the people here are...
[01:37:16] So it's Chica
[01:37:17] and then Chica's sister,
[01:37:18] who...
[01:37:18] Chica's sister's really funny to me
[01:37:20] because she's, like,
[01:37:21] a more mature version of Chica
[01:37:24] that really likes
[01:37:24] the president as well.
[01:37:26] Mm-hmm.
[01:37:28] Um...
[01:37:28] But she kind of is apparently
[01:37:29] just as depraved as Miko.
[01:37:32] Yeah.
[01:37:33] It's actually really funny.
[01:37:36] Um...
[01:37:36] We also get, um...
[01:37:38] Chica's, of course, there.
[01:37:39] We get, um...
[01:37:41] Mayuki's, uh, sister, um...
[01:37:43] K.
[01:37:44] Um...
[01:37:44] Is also there.
[01:37:45] Mm-hmm.
[01:37:46] And then, uh, Kaguya.
[01:37:48] And...
[01:37:48] I love the fact that K.
[01:37:50] is obsessed with Kaguya.
[01:37:51] Like, I always find that
[01:37:52] really funny.
[01:37:53] Yeah.
[01:37:55] Pretty funny.
[01:37:56] Which ends up, you know,
[01:37:57] ultimately,
[01:37:57] that ends up working out.
[01:37:59] Because, you know,
[01:38:00] sister-in-law thing.
[01:38:02] Well, yeah.
[01:38:03] There's some really funny stuff
[01:38:05] with K.
[01:38:06] later on in the series.
[01:38:07] Like, in the manga especially.
[01:38:10] Um...
[01:38:10] I won't spoil it,
[01:38:11] but it's very entertaining.
[01:38:14] Mm-hmm.
[01:38:15] Um...
[01:38:15] So, of course,
[01:38:15] they do end up doing
[01:38:16] the whole Secret Santa thing.
[01:38:18] And, of course,
[01:38:18] the one who gets Kaguya's gift
[01:38:20] is K.
[01:38:20] And she's like,
[01:38:20] I will treasure it forever.
[01:38:22] And Kaguya's like,
[01:38:24] Kaguya's still in ice mode right now.
[01:38:25] So she's like,
[01:38:25] yeah, I don't care.
[01:38:26] Um...
[01:38:27] But, you know,
[01:38:27] what's pretty funny, though,
[01:38:28] is because, um...
[01:38:30] Because she got K.
[01:38:31] For, like,
[01:38:32] K got her gift.
[01:38:33] Yeah.
[01:38:35] Ultimately,
[01:38:35] it still kind of went to the president
[01:38:36] because they share a room.
[01:38:38] Yeah, kind of.
[01:38:39] So, like,
[01:38:39] her gift still ended up in his room.
[01:38:41] So that worked out.
[01:38:42] Yes.
[01:38:43] Um...
[01:38:44] I also love Chika.
[01:38:45] Like, the whole time
[01:38:45] she's dressed in a Santa costume
[01:38:47] and she's got these,
[01:38:47] these, like,
[01:38:48] hilarious masks on.
[01:38:49] They're like,
[01:38:50] I don't think you're getting...
[01:38:50] I don't think you got the assignment,
[01:38:52] Chika.
[01:38:52] Yeah.
[01:38:53] Yeah, because, uh,
[01:38:54] Japanese New Year's
[01:38:54] is very different
[01:38:55] than New Year's over here.
[01:38:57] Yeah.
[01:38:58] It's just really funny.
[01:38:59] They got, like,
[01:38:59] a whole thing going on
[01:39:01] where we're just like,
[01:39:02] hey,
[01:39:03] uh,
[01:39:04] let's drink until the ball drops
[01:39:05] and that's pretty much all we got.
[01:39:07] Yeah.
[01:39:08] Pretty much.
[01:39:09] And, of course,
[01:39:10] the whole,
[01:39:11] the whole Secret Santa thing
[01:39:12] goes pretty much as expected.
[01:39:13] It doesn't really work out
[01:39:14] the way that
[01:39:15] Kaguya and, um,
[01:39:16] Mayuki wanted.
[01:39:18] But after
[01:39:19] everyone's passed out
[01:39:20] and doing whatever,
[01:39:22] Kaguya and, um...
[01:39:24] Oh, we didn't, uh,
[01:39:24] we didn't,
[01:39:25] we didn't talk about, uh,
[01:39:27] Chika's little sister's gift.
[01:39:30] Oh,
[01:39:31] I'm freaking brain farting.
[01:39:33] What was it again?
[01:39:34] It was a pair of handcuffs
[01:39:35] and she, like,
[01:39:36] she rigged it,
[01:39:37] she rigged it
[01:39:38] so that the president
[01:39:39] would get it
[01:39:39] and she was just like,
[01:39:40] I can show you how they work
[01:39:41] if you want.
[01:39:43] Yeah.
[01:39:44] I remember that.
[01:39:45] And it was like,
[01:39:47] Kaguya is not a trust at all.
[01:39:49] Yeah.
[01:39:50] And he was freaking out
[01:39:51] about his gift
[01:39:51] so he was like,
[01:39:52] he was like,
[01:39:53] really hoping that
[01:39:54] he wouldn't have
[01:39:55] the weirdest gift
[01:39:56] so when he opened
[01:39:57] the handcuffs
[01:39:57] he was like,
[01:39:58] this is exactly
[01:39:59] what I wanted.
[01:39:59] I'll treasure it forever.
[01:40:02] And Kaguya
[01:40:05] and Chika
[01:40:06] and K are all like,
[01:40:07] what the fuck
[01:40:08] is wrong with you?
[01:40:09] Yep.
[01:40:11] Uh,
[01:40:12] yeah,
[01:40:12] but then of course
[01:40:13] afterwards they're all
[01:40:14] passed out inside
[01:40:15] but, um,
[01:40:16] Kaguya and Mayuki
[01:40:17] are chatting outside
[01:40:18] and they're finally
[01:40:19] seeming to make some
[01:40:21] progress
[01:40:21] like with each other
[01:40:23] and Mayuki's like,
[01:40:24] hey,
[01:40:24] I had a present for you.
[01:40:26] I'll give it to you
[01:40:27] and the whole time
[01:40:28] like he ends up
[01:40:29] then getting like
[01:40:29] second thoughts
[01:40:30] where he's like,
[01:40:31] no,
[01:40:31] this is lame.
[01:40:31] I can't.
[01:40:32] And he's like,
[01:40:33] no,
[01:40:33] never mind.
[01:40:33] And then she's like,
[01:40:34] well,
[01:40:34] no,
[01:40:34] it's mine.
[01:40:35] You gave it to me.
[01:40:36] I want it.
[01:40:36] Um,
[01:40:37] and then he proceeds
[01:40:38] to run off with it
[01:40:39] and she,
[01:40:40] we get the,
[01:40:41] we get like literally
[01:40:41] the reversal of the
[01:40:42] perfume scene
[01:40:43] where he's running
[01:40:44] away and now
[01:40:44] she's chasing after
[01:40:45] him.
[01:40:47] Um,
[01:40:49] and it eventually
[01:40:50] ends up climaxing
[01:40:50] where they get to a,
[01:40:51] uh,
[01:40:52] a park
[01:40:54] and they're just
[01:40:55] straight up.
[01:40:55] Finally,
[01:40:56] they let out
[01:40:57] everything where
[01:40:58] they're like basically
[01:40:59] both like arguing
[01:41:00] and like being like
[01:41:01] how either one
[01:41:02] truly knows
[01:41:03] each other
[01:41:04] and they're afraid
[01:41:04] if they knew
[01:41:05] their deepest,
[01:41:05] darkest secrets,
[01:41:06] they wouldn't like
[01:41:06] each other
[01:41:07] kind of thing.
[01:41:09] And then they
[01:41:10] finally have that
[01:41:10] realization of like,
[01:41:12] wait a minute,
[01:41:14] like this is okay.
[01:41:16] Like we can actually
[01:41:18] confess and
[01:41:20] they have,
[01:41:20] they finally confess
[01:41:22] the cab,
[01:41:22] the big damn kiss
[01:41:23] again.
[01:41:24] Um,
[01:41:26] and then we get
[01:41:27] this awesome payoff
[01:41:27] where Kaguya
[01:41:28] finally opens the
[01:41:29] gift and it's one
[01:41:30] of those childish
[01:41:31] like cup and ball
[01:41:32] toys.
[01:41:33] Yep.
[01:41:34] He's like,
[01:41:35] but look at the
[01:41:35] hand,
[01:41:36] look at the craft
[01:41:36] work on it.
[01:41:37] It's hand carved
[01:41:38] at the craftsmanship
[01:41:39] and she's like,
[01:41:40] this is so lame,
[01:41:41] but I love it.
[01:41:43] Yep.
[01:41:44] And then we get
[01:41:44] the,
[01:41:45] it was pretty cute.
[01:41:46] Hmm.
[01:41:47] And then we get
[01:41:48] the final trade-off,
[01:41:49] which is like the
[01:41:49] final,
[01:41:49] like the final
[01:41:51] heel realization
[01:41:52] moment where
[01:41:53] he takes the
[01:41:54] wrapping from
[01:41:55] inside the box
[01:41:56] and uses it
[01:41:56] to tie her hair
[01:41:57] up.
[01:41:57] And she's like,
[01:41:57] does it look
[01:41:58] all right?
[01:41:58] And he's like,
[01:41:59] it's perfect.
[01:42:00] And it's basically
[01:42:01] symbolizes that
[01:42:02] they've both
[01:42:03] finally reached
[01:42:03] where they need
[01:42:04] to be as people.
[01:42:06] And they're
[01:42:07] going to move
[01:42:08] on as a couple
[01:42:08] officially.
[01:42:10] Yay.
[01:42:11] Which I will.
[01:42:12] She's in a movie.
[01:42:13] Yeah.
[01:42:14] And it's funny
[01:42:15] because the
[01:42:16] where this takes
[01:42:17] place in the
[01:42:18] manga,
[01:42:18] there's still,
[01:42:19] it's only like
[01:42:19] halfway through.
[01:42:20] There's still a
[01:42:21] shit ton more
[01:42:22] to go.
[01:42:23] So this only,
[01:42:24] this only takes
[01:42:25] it to like what,
[01:42:26] like volume 13,
[01:42:26] 14,
[01:42:27] like around there.
[01:42:28] I think it's
[01:42:29] volume 14 out
[01:42:30] of 28.
[01:42:32] Wow.
[01:42:33] Yeah.
[01:42:34] It's,
[01:42:36] it's,
[01:42:36] there's still a
[01:42:37] lot.
[01:42:37] It's actually funny
[01:42:38] because the tone
[01:42:38] of the manga
[01:42:39] changes from this
[01:42:40] point on because
[01:42:41] now that the whole
[01:42:42] love is war concept
[01:42:43] is kind of over
[01:42:44] and now it's like,
[01:42:45] now we actually
[01:42:45] have to like,
[01:42:46] you know,
[01:42:47] move on as a
[01:42:47] couple and you
[01:42:48] find out all the
[01:42:49] backstory and
[01:42:50] shenanigans that
[01:42:51] happen outside of
[01:42:54] the goofy court,
[01:42:54] like president,
[01:42:56] like the,
[01:42:56] the club
[01:42:57] activities,
[01:42:58] essentially.
[01:43:01] Which is great.
[01:43:02] But then we get
[01:43:02] that really cute,
[01:43:03] like they have
[01:43:04] their first like
[01:43:04] official date and
[01:43:06] Kaguya shows up
[01:43:07] in school uniform
[01:43:08] because she
[01:43:09] misunderstood what
[01:43:10] he meant and he's
[01:43:10] like in like
[01:43:11] regular clothes and
[01:43:12] she's like,
[01:43:12] this is the worst.
[01:43:13] But they're like,
[01:43:15] you know what?
[01:43:15] It's fine.
[01:43:16] This is exactly
[01:43:16] who we are.
[01:43:18] Yeah.
[01:43:19] And we kind of
[01:43:20] get a couple
[01:43:20] flash scenes to
[01:43:21] like a whole bunch
[01:43:22] of different events.
[01:43:23] We didn't talk
[01:43:24] about the scene
[01:43:25] where Kaguya runs
[01:43:25] into Mayuki's dad
[01:43:27] either.
[01:43:27] Because anytime
[01:43:28] like Mayuki's dad
[01:43:29] shows up on screen
[01:43:30] is amazing.
[01:43:32] Well, I think
[01:43:32] that the scene
[01:43:33] with Kaguya,
[01:43:34] that was just
[01:43:35] like a random
[01:43:35] like,
[01:43:36] like scene
[01:43:37] change clip.
[01:43:38] Yeah.
[01:43:39] But there was a
[01:43:40] scene where
[01:43:40] the,
[01:43:42] the Tsubame,
[01:43:43] because he's doing
[01:43:44] like a fortune
[01:43:45] teller thing for
[01:43:46] some reason.
[01:43:46] Right,
[01:43:47] right,
[01:43:47] right.
[01:43:47] Yeah.
[01:43:48] Well,
[01:43:48] no,
[01:43:48] she goes in
[01:43:50] because you
[01:43:50] got to remember
[01:43:51] he's like in
[01:43:52] there in poverty
[01:43:52] and he like makes
[01:43:53] nothing for money.
[01:43:54] So he's just
[01:43:55] doing odd jobs
[01:43:55] to make money.
[01:43:56] Yeah,
[01:43:57] swindling people.
[01:43:58] Pretty.
[01:43:59] Wait until you
[01:43:59] see how,
[01:44:00] how he later
[01:44:00] on.
[01:44:01] I'm not going
[01:44:01] to spoil it.
[01:44:02] It's great.
[01:44:03] But like that
[01:44:04] whole scene,
[01:44:05] like that,
[01:44:05] just like that
[01:44:06] scene and the
[01:44:07] whole scene with
[01:44:08] like Ishigami and
[01:44:09] everything like that,
[01:44:10] like really left
[01:44:12] me hanging there
[01:44:12] because I really
[01:44:13] want to know
[01:44:13] what happened
[01:44:14] and like where
[01:44:15] that's going to
[01:44:15] go.
[01:44:16] It's sad.
[01:44:17] That's all I'll
[01:44:18] say.
[01:44:21] I won't spoil,
[01:44:22] I won't spoil
[01:44:23] what happens,
[01:44:24] but you can tell
[01:44:25] by that scene
[01:44:25] that it doesn't
[01:44:26] go well.
[01:44:27] Yeah.
[01:44:29] Um,
[01:44:30] I love this movie.
[01:44:32] I love how it
[01:44:32] ends.
[01:44:33] I just hate the
[01:44:34] fact that Crunchyroll
[01:44:34] split it up into
[01:44:35] four parts because
[01:44:36] it kind of kills
[01:44:37] the flow.
[01:44:38] Agreed.
[01:44:40] Agreed.
[01:44:41] I don't know why
[01:44:41] Crunchyroll has like
[01:44:42] a weird thing about
[01:44:43] doing that to movies,
[01:44:44] but.
[01:44:45] only some,
[01:44:46] like I don't get
[01:44:47] why they do it to
[01:44:47] some,
[01:44:48] but then others
[01:44:48] they don't.
[01:44:49] Yeah,
[01:44:50] the SAO movies it
[01:44:50] doesn't do that
[01:44:51] with,
[01:44:51] so it's weird.
[01:44:53] Yeah,
[01:44:53] it's weird movies
[01:44:54] like that.
[01:44:55] But,
[01:44:56] um,
[01:44:57] yeah,
[01:44:57] those were the
[01:44:58] Christmas episodes
[01:44:59] we watched for
[01:44:59] this though.
[01:45:03] Yep.
[01:45:04] Turns out anime
[01:45:05] doesn't do Christmas
[01:45:06] very well for the
[01:45:07] most part.
[01:45:08] No.
[01:45:08] Well,
[01:45:09] I mean,
[01:45:09] there's some
[01:45:09] very wholesome
[01:45:10] slice of life that
[01:45:11] we just couldn't
[01:45:11] do because of
[01:45:12] there's too much
[01:45:13] baggage attached to
[01:45:13] them.
[01:45:14] Like the,
[01:45:15] the Kimi ni
[01:45:16] Tadoké,
[01:45:16] one is really
[01:45:17] sweet,
[01:45:17] but you need to
[01:45:18] watch an entire
[01:45:19] season's worth of
[01:45:19] episodes to get
[01:45:20] that one.
[01:45:21] That's fair.
[01:45:23] The,
[01:45:24] I mean,
[01:45:24] technically Kaguya
[01:45:25] Sama you do as
[01:45:25] well.
[01:45:26] So,
[01:45:27] but we both at
[01:45:28] least did for
[01:45:29] this one.
[01:45:30] Yeah.
[01:45:30] Um,
[01:45:31] I'm going to say
[01:45:32] out of the four we
[01:45:33] watched,
[01:45:33] I still think the
[01:45:34] Kaguya Sama movie
[01:45:35] is the most
[01:45:35] complete product
[01:45:36] here.
[01:45:38] Yeah,
[01:45:38] for sure.
[01:45:40] Um,
[01:45:41] the only other
[01:45:41] one I'd say
[01:45:42] that come,
[01:45:42] that rivals it
[01:45:44] is Pokemon.
[01:45:44] And that's just
[01:45:45] because Pokemon by,
[01:45:46] by its very
[01:45:47] nature is episodic.
[01:45:49] Yeah.
[01:45:49] I mean,
[01:45:50] that was,
[01:45:50] that was the
[01:45:51] most Christmas
[01:45:52] themed out of
[01:45:52] the four.
[01:45:54] Um,
[01:45:55] I mean the
[01:45:55] Kaguya Sama one,
[01:45:56] the Christmas is
[01:45:56] probably the most
[01:45:57] prominent there as
[01:45:59] well,
[01:45:59] but that's,
[01:45:59] that's only the
[01:46:00] last like arc,
[01:46:01] like final act of
[01:46:02] the movie.
[01:46:03] Um,
[01:46:06] that,
[01:46:06] that being said
[01:46:07] though,
[01:46:09] sort out online,
[01:46:10] I will give a pass
[01:46:10] just because it is,
[01:46:12] that's obviously
[01:46:13] part of a much
[01:46:13] bigger thing,
[01:46:14] but even if the
[01:46:15] Christmas theming
[01:46:15] is very minimal,
[01:46:17] um,
[01:46:18] Asamanga Dayo out
[01:46:19] of all of them
[01:46:20] is probably the
[01:46:20] weakest,
[01:46:21] but that's a show
[01:46:22] that you kind of
[01:46:23] have to watch
[01:46:23] as a show
[01:46:24] to truly appreciate.
[01:46:26] Yeah,
[01:46:26] that's fair.
[01:46:28] Um,
[01:46:29] um,
[01:46:30] yeah,
[01:46:30] I'd probably go
[01:46:31] like,
[01:46:31] like starting from
[01:46:32] the top,
[01:46:33] I'd say Kaguya,
[01:46:35] Pokemon,
[01:46:36] Sword Art,
[01:46:36] and then Asamanga Dayo.
[01:46:38] Yeah.
[01:46:39] Um,
[01:46:40] I kind of put
[01:46:41] Asamanga Dayo
[01:46:41] and Sword Art
[01:46:42] kind of on the
[01:46:42] same level
[01:46:43] where they're both
[01:46:44] kind of just,
[01:46:44] the Christmas
[01:46:45] theming is very
[01:46:46] vague to the
[01:46:47] episode itself,
[01:46:48] and it's more
[01:46:49] you kind of,
[01:46:50] they're,
[01:46:50] they're one piece
[01:46:51] of a much larger
[01:46:52] thing,
[01:46:52] like product.
[01:46:53] Yeah.
[01:46:54] Well,
[01:46:55] I,
[01:46:55] I put,
[01:46:56] I put Sword Art
[01:46:56] above only
[01:46:57] because,
[01:46:58] um,
[01:46:58] I,
[01:46:59] I know the full
[01:47:00] story,
[01:47:00] I know the,
[01:47:01] the significance
[01:47:02] of that particular
[01:47:02] episode.
[01:47:04] Like,
[01:47:05] when you do
[01:47:06] eventually watch
[01:47:07] all of,
[01:47:07] um,
[01:47:08] Asamanga Dayo,
[01:47:09] when you get to
[01:47:09] that episode again,
[01:47:10] it'll make more
[01:47:11] sense because you've
[01:47:12] just seen all of,
[01:47:13] you've at least,
[01:47:14] because that's
[01:47:14] episode 17 of the
[01:47:15] series out of 26,
[01:47:17] so at least by
[01:47:18] then,
[01:47:19] you know these
[01:47:20] characters.
[01:47:21] The whole show
[01:47:22] is nonsense,
[01:47:23] like,
[01:47:23] like that the
[01:47:24] whole way through,
[01:47:25] but when you
[01:47:26] watch it from the
[01:47:26] beginning,
[01:47:27] you,
[01:47:27] you get attached
[01:47:28] to them as they
[01:47:29] go through their,
[01:47:30] the nonsense that
[01:47:31] is their lives.
[01:47:33] Um,
[01:47:34] it's a hard show
[01:47:35] to just show one
[01:47:36] episode to,
[01:47:37] even though they're
[01:47:37] all,
[01:47:37] all the episodes are
[01:47:38] basically kind of
[01:47:39] just standalone,
[01:47:40] it's kind of a
[01:47:41] hard show to,
[01:47:42] um,
[01:47:44] kind of grasp
[01:47:45] that way,
[01:47:46] like just randomly
[01:47:47] without watching
[01:47:48] the whole thing.
[01:47:51] But,
[01:47:52] um,
[01:47:53] yeah,
[01:47:53] arguably though,
[01:47:54] when I think of
[01:47:55] the episodes,
[01:47:56] I actually think
[01:47:57] statistically speaking,
[01:47:58] the Pokemon one
[01:47:59] is probably the
[01:48:00] weakest product
[01:48:01] overall,
[01:48:01] just in terms of
[01:48:02] the fact that
[01:48:03] it's like
[01:48:06] legit,
[01:48:07] like when you
[01:48:07] really think about
[01:48:08] it,
[01:48:08] nothing happens
[01:48:09] in that episode.
[01:48:11] I mean,
[01:48:12] that's kind of
[01:48:13] the original
[01:48:14] Pokemon anime
[01:48:15] in general,
[01:48:16] like all,
[01:48:17] all of the episodes,
[01:48:17] until you get to
[01:48:18] like,
[01:48:19] like not counting
[01:48:20] like the gym badge
[01:48:21] episodes and
[01:48:22] like the actual
[01:48:23] like tournament
[01:48:24] at the end of
[01:48:25] the season,
[01:48:25] like it's all
[01:48:26] pretty much nonsense.
[01:48:27] It doesn't matter.
[01:48:29] It just,
[01:48:29] that show like
[01:48:30] kind of infuriates
[01:48:31] me watching it now
[01:48:31] because I'm like,
[01:48:32] why are they so
[01:48:33] stupid?
[01:48:34] Like the whole
[01:48:35] time I'm watching
[01:48:36] it for real.
[01:48:39] But,
[01:48:39] um,
[01:48:40] yeah,
[01:48:40] it is funny
[01:48:41] though.
[01:48:42] Like what,
[01:48:42] like it's very
[01:48:43] clear,
[01:48:43] like some of
[01:48:44] these were very
[01:48:45] much part of
[01:48:46] larger arcs
[01:48:46] and then
[01:48:48] Kaguya just
[01:48:49] was a finished
[01:48:49] product.
[01:48:50] Granted,
[01:48:50] it had the
[01:48:50] budget of a
[01:48:51] movie,
[01:48:51] so it made
[01:48:52] sense,
[01:48:52] but yeah,
[01:48:55] all in all,
[01:48:55] I still enjoyed
[01:48:56] watching them
[01:48:56] all,
[01:48:57] even if
[01:48:57] Azamaga
[01:48:58] Dio did
[01:48:58] confuse me
[01:48:59] a bit,
[01:49:00] but I think
[01:49:00] that is just
[01:49:01] part of just
[01:49:01] jumping in
[01:49:02] at episode
[01:49:02] 17.
[01:49:03] Well,
[01:49:04] the whole
[01:49:04] series will
[01:49:05] confuse you,
[01:49:05] but it'll
[01:49:06] be a fun
[01:49:07] confusing ride.
[01:49:09] watching it
[01:49:10] in the middle
[01:49:11] is with no
[01:49:12] prior knowledge
[01:49:13] is very
[01:49:13] confusing.
[01:49:16] Thankfully,
[01:49:16] if anyone
[01:49:17] wants to watch
[01:49:18] Azamaga Dio,
[01:49:18] you can find
[01:49:19] the whole
[01:49:19] series dubbed
[01:49:20] on YouTube
[01:49:20] and subbed
[01:49:21] if you're
[01:49:21] into that.
[01:49:22] So there's
[01:49:23] that.
[01:49:26] But,
[01:49:27] um,
[01:49:27] yeah,
[01:49:28] I think that
[01:49:28] about wraps
[01:49:29] it up.
[01:49:30] Yeah,
[01:49:31] um,
[01:49:31] so at the time
[01:49:32] this comes out,
[01:49:33] it will be,
[01:49:33] uh,
[01:49:34] Christmas Eve,
[01:49:35] so to
[01:49:36] anyone watching
[01:49:37] when this
[01:49:37] comes out,
[01:49:38] uh,
[01:49:38] happy holidays.
[01:49:39] Um,
[01:49:39] enjoy your
[01:49:40] time off
[01:49:40] from work,
[01:49:41] spend time
[01:49:41] with your
[01:49:42] families,
[01:49:42] and,
[01:49:42] we will see
[01:49:43] you all
[01:49:44] next time,
[01:49:45] uh,
[01:49:45] with,
[01:49:45] uh,
[01:49:46] geek addicts.
[01:49:47] Um,
[01:49:47] any other
[01:49:47] sign-offs you
[01:49:48] want to do
[01:49:48] before we
[01:49:48] close out?
[01:49:50] Nope,
[01:49:51] just,
[01:49:51] uh,
[01:49:51] you know,
[01:49:51] enjoy your
[01:49:52] time off,
[01:49:53] uh,
[01:49:54] sleep in,
[01:49:55] because I'm
[01:49:56] sure most of
[01:49:56] you have the
[01:49:58] next day
[01:49:58] off,
[01:49:59] because,
[01:50:00] you know,
[01:50:00] Christmas.
[01:50:01] I'm actually
[01:50:02] taking,
[01:50:02] unless you have
[01:50:03] kids,
[01:50:03] and then,
[01:50:03] unless you have
[01:50:04] kids,
[01:50:04] and then you,
[01:50:05] you,
[01:50:05] you don't have
[01:50:06] the option
[01:50:06] of sleeping
[01:50:06] again.
[01:50:07] Yeah,
[01:50:08] I actually
[01:50:08] had just
[01:50:08] enough vacation
[01:50:09] time that
[01:50:10] the way I
[01:50:10] laid it out,
[01:50:11] I'm gonna
[01:50:11] get off the
[01:50:13] weekend before,
[01:50:14] um,
[01:50:14] I think,
[01:50:15] like,
[01:50:15] the 21st,
[01:50:16] I,
[01:50:16] I will be my
[01:50:17] last day at
[01:50:18] work,
[01:50:18] and then I'm
[01:50:18] off the rest
[01:50:19] of the year.
[01:50:20] Well,
[01:50:20] there you go.
[01:50:21] Hell yeah.
[01:50:21] So,
[01:50:22] I'll be off
[01:50:22] for a week
[01:50:24] and a half,
[01:50:25] which will be
[01:50:25] really nice.
[01:50:26] I bet.
[01:50:27] I'm planning on
[01:50:28] taking some time
[01:50:29] off,
[01:50:29] too.
[01:50:29] I'm gonna play
[01:50:29] some fucking
[01:50:30] Sparking Zero.
[01:50:31] Nice.
[01:50:32] I'm gonna,
[01:50:32] I think me
[01:50:33] and Alex
[01:50:33] are gonna have
[01:50:34] the same time
[01:50:34] off,
[01:50:35] so we're
[01:50:35] probably gonna
[01:50:35] hang out.
[01:50:36] I know New
[01:50:36] Year's is
[01:50:37] probably gonna
[01:50:37] be us hanging
[01:50:38] out,
[01:50:38] getting drunk,
[01:50:39] watching bad
[01:50:39] movies again.
[01:50:41] Hell yeah.
[01:50:43] Yeah,
[01:50:43] fun times.
[01:50:45] But yeah,

[01:51:05] it'll be
[01:51:06] something Christmas
[01:51:06] themed.
