[00:00:00] The following is a GNC podcast production.
[00:00:30] Welcome to Geek Adix, the pop culture podcast.
[00:01:00] I'm not going to announce it here in case he wants to keep it secret, but I do know ThraxName.
[00:01:24] I hope so.
[00:02:04] I don't really know much about the 3DO, but when I do know, I pretty much know from your podcast.
[00:02:14] That is one of the few games that I am aware of, and I know exists even though I know nothing about it.
[00:02:22] It is one of the most fascinating dumpster fires of a game you'll ever experience.
[00:02:28] I'm calling it a game is generous, but yeah, that was the one we had been hyping up for a long time.
[00:02:38] We finally covered it because the definitive edition just came out on all the platforms.
[00:02:46] Now anybody can experience Flummer's Don't Wear ties for a low price of $20.
[00:02:52] Speaking of games that have recently released, I got the new Battlefront Classic Collection on Switch.
[00:03:02] I have not heard good things about that collection.
[00:03:06] I have been hearing some issues with online. I attempted to do a quick match before we did this, but by the time I figured out why the crashes were happening, I didn't have any time to do it.
[00:03:20] I did do a quick match with just an action quick match with computers.
[00:03:30] I liked how much smoother it is compared to the old one.
[00:03:36] I will admit it's a little jarring because they changed the controls for when you're using regular soldiers, like a stormtrooper, battle droids, whatever.
[00:03:48] They changed the controls to make it more modern shooters, which makes sense.
[00:03:53] But because of them playing Battlefront for so long with the old controls, it's definitely a learning curve.
[00:04:01] Yeah.
[00:04:04] It's kind of funny. I saw a lot of reviews on Steam for it that basically all the reviews said by the original 2005 version.
[00:04:11] It's on steam and it's cheaper.
[00:04:16] So I don't know if that's a good sign or a bad sign.
[00:04:19] I wasn't planning on purchasing it because I still have the original PS2 versions, but...
[00:04:25] Yeah. Well, I mean, I just the idea of updated, like not necessarily after graphics, but smoothed out controls and online access just appealed to me.
[00:04:36] So that was one of the main reasons why I wanted to get it.
[00:04:39] Plus, I never actually played the first one.
[00:04:42] I will never play the second one.
[00:04:45] I think the second one's a better game, but I think the first one had arguably better maps.
[00:04:49] That makes sense.
[00:04:51] I picked up a few games today and realized video games are very expensive.
[00:04:56] Oh yeah.
[00:04:58] So I went to a game stop for like the first time in God knows how long.
[00:05:03] And I was going to go pick up a unicorn over Lord.
[00:05:10] It's a new game by Vanilla Ware.
[00:05:13] They're a very, very, very good studio that makes incredibly quality games.
[00:05:18] They're usually very out there though.
[00:05:21] So I want to go pick up their newest game and while I was there, I saw they had a copy of Final Fantasy VII rebirth on the shelf.
[00:05:29] And it was in there and I said fuck it and just grabbed it while I was there.
[00:05:35] Got $70 for that.
[00:05:38] Yeah, I was going for an Amazon too.
[00:05:40] I'm planning on picking it up at some point, but.
[00:05:45] Honestly, I'm kind of dragging my heels on it a little bit because I know I'm not going to jump well.
[00:05:49] First of all, I still have to beat the DLC of the first game.
[00:05:52] I only just barely started it.
[00:05:54] I'm like maybe an hour into it.
[00:05:56] So I still need to do that which is like what solid 15 hours of gameplay.
[00:06:01] So yeah, there's no huge rush for me plus I also.
[00:06:06] I'm playing Chrono trigger which I'm like seven and a half eight hours in right now.
[00:06:11] And I really enjoy it so far.
[00:06:14] Isn't it such a good game?
[00:06:16] Yeah, it's such a bizarre concept but it works so well for it.
[00:06:19] One of the best one of the best implementations of time travel in a video game.
[00:06:25] Yeah, for sure.
[00:06:26] I'm liking them.
[00:06:28] It's definitely kind of a breath of fresh air not having the random encounters.
[00:06:33] And there's still a little random like.
[00:06:36] Like yeah, some of them but for the most part you can kind of like skirt around them if you just want to get somewhere.
[00:06:42] Yeah, you can do a degree.
[00:06:44] There's definitely a few cases though where it's kind of like you'll try but it's like no this is a scripted fight that you have to fight basically.
[00:06:51] Yeah, but no overall right now I've gotten to like the time hub whatever.
[00:07:01] And I explored fairly thoroughly every time period that I have access to right now.
[00:07:09] And last time I played, I left off when I was about to go into the mountain to find the legendary sword for the hero in the year 600.
[00:07:19] So that's where I'm at right now so pretty early on but I'm enjoying it and I'm liking that I haven't really had to look up walkthroughs much at all.
[00:07:29] Now it's a very, very solid RPG on arguably there's a reason why it's so highly acclaimed these days.
[00:07:36] I figured as much but I you know it's one of those things where you don't.
[00:07:40] You can only believe the hype so much until you actually jump into it yourself.
[00:07:44] So not Corona triggers definitely one of the ones that I believe uh.
[00:07:49] Fits that bill.
[00:07:51] In me in particular like that was actually my first the first video game I ever spent over $100 on.
[00:07:59] Yeah, when I first got into collecting that was one of my first fully market trips I found it for 100 at the time which arguably is probably a good price these days.
[00:08:11] And I bought it and my copy is so sun damaged it's not even funny like it's like yellow it is hilarious but it works and I don't care.
[00:08:21] I've had it forever yeah, I'm not a collector so I am perfectly comfortable with my digital copy.
[00:08:28] Yeah if I can find our physical copy at a reasonable price for a system that I actually owned it be different.
[00:08:34] I would definitely go for the physical then but as it stands although there is like.
[00:08:41] I have seen something about one of the creators for it.
[00:08:46] I think he's currently working on the final fantasy seven remake.
[00:08:52] For what I didn't like that but basically like he was asking fans like what kind of remake would you want to see for Corona trigger and stuff like that so people are starting to speculate if.
[00:09:02] When the ff7 remake trilogy is done if he's going to try and get the Corona trigger remake off the ground.
[00:09:10] So we'll see yeah it's about it's that's such a that is such a fun game.
[00:09:20] I just wish there was there was easier ways to play it other than the easiest way I guess to play it now is.
[00:09:27] It's on steam there's a steam release.
[00:09:32] But if you don't like playing RPGs on PC be only other option well I guess if you have a steam deck it's different but.
[00:09:41] The only other option I can think of is I guess the beta version because the beta store is still technically open so yeah that's that's the version I'm playing.
[00:09:50] Even the DS version is absurdly expensive now yeah if I could get that version that's probably what I've been gone for but oh well.
[00:10:00] Yeah yeah you know what I was speaking of a insane collecting I found out.
[00:10:06] Did you know that the the PS5 version of final fantasy seven remake integrated that is like 100 plus dollar game now really.
[00:10:17] Yeah so they like my $40 like two months ago.
[00:10:22] Do you have like the physical like final fantasy seven like integrated version.
[00:10:27] Oh wow you got lucky then it is technically UK version of that matters.
[00:10:32] It does a bit um the UK version is incredibly common.
[00:10:38] Okay.
[00:10:39] The North American version had an extremely low print run.
[00:10:45] Yeah yeah it's I don't really understand it but um.
[00:10:51] Yeah they had a very low print run and because of that now that game is like $140 I think it's so weird I feel like people would just buy the UK version if that's the case I mean there's a reason why that's not desirable I think it has some to do with like.
[00:11:08] The DLC code they came with it doesn't work or something there's a way around that.
[00:11:14] Yeah I yeah you just got to make a profile under a UK.
[00:11:19] Zip code and then just download it under that profile and you're good.
[00:11:25] Yeah I'm not sure if that's going to run into issues later on though um but as a for collectors of games like I guess the North American versions very sought out sought after that.
[00:11:37] I think I can I I left because I picked that up the day it came out it gave stop just randomly for like 40 bucks.
[00:11:44] Really?
[00:11:46] Hmm I would have thought it would be more expensive first day.
[00:11:50] Uh well it was technically a re-release.
[00:11:53] Oh okay I gotcha but I also I got another way to go.
[00:11:58] Oh it's over there hold on one second.
[00:12:00] I got this today well it came in the mail.
[00:12:06] I just draw you on to remake super pumped to start playing that because uh well I played both games a lot when I was a kid but the second one is definitely the one I played the most.
[00:12:16] And I was super bummed and I heard it wasn't coming out for switch so when I got a PS flag that was that was one of my priorities.
[00:12:24] So and it's only the 20 bucks right now.
[00:12:27] Well I mean it remakes make sense I mean especially for a remake of a game that came out years ago.
[00:12:37] Um I'm trying to think if I grabbed anything else recently.
[00:12:44] Um I'll think about it if I pop up I'll save it for later.
[00:12:49] Um yeah so for today's topic uh we mentioned in the last episode that we're gonna be on kind of a bit of a dragon ball marathon for the next few episodes.
[00:13:01] Mostly just the attribute to a curatoriama and I mean our podcast logo is a dragon ball in case anyone has noticed so.
[00:13:10] Or this episode we're gonna be covering uh we've mentioned it in the past a few times but it's a one off uh manga uh called dragon ball that time I got reincarnated as Yamcha.
[00:13:22] I got my copy right here too.
[00:13:25] I go flip through it as it goes short enough.
[00:13:28] Yeah um so you probably know better than me like what's the uh the backstory behind this one?
[00:13:34] Um to be honest I'm not like uh for what I understand the the guy who wrote it um uh dragon garoli is uh I guess he was just doing like little online stuff for the most part and then I think Shuysha approached him and asked him to do this.
[00:13:55] Which is like a big deal and a lot honestly like I don't know if you've um noticed but he's really really good at emulating Toriama style.
[00:14:04] Yeah no it was pretty close which is hilarious because the first couple pages are his style and it's like a dramatic shift honestly.
[00:14:14] Oh extremely but like it's it's really interesting how he manages to um to really like cement it.
[00:14:24] And especially like how um like when you look at the first chapter when like he first wakes up as Yamcha and it's like the old school of dragon ball style.
[00:14:33] And then you flip forward a little bit to like saying saga, sell saga stuff like he he emulates both different like um like points in time of Toriama's art very well.
[00:14:46] Like it doesn't stick to one specific style he actually like draws it like it's original dragon ball then the Z parts he draws it like it's see you know he does a really good job with that.
[00:14:56] I found it very hilarious and kind of I rolled my eyes a bit when the whole reason he ends up reincarnated as Yamcha is because he died falling down the stairs trying to look up a girl's skirt.
[00:15:09] It's like so easy.
[00:15:13] That's like the most like manga thing ever for real.
[00:15:17] Yeah it was actually like when I first heard about this um like I thought it was just going to be like a silly fan thing.
[00:15:25] I didn't know this is an official shoelace of property so when what I heard that they were doing an act because the when it first came out,
[00:15:32] I read a fan translation of it on the internet that's of the first chapter and I thought like that was the only way I was going to be able to read it.
[00:15:39] Then all of a sudden, I saw that they were dropping a collective volume was like wow surprising.
[00:15:47] But it's it is a very humorous so the thing about it that's kind of sad as it is very short yeah and go spot three chapters like a bonus at the end.
[00:15:59] Now there's three chapter main chapters and there's like two bonus ones towards the end that uh kind of explain a few things but for the most part it's all just.
[00:16:11] It's not super important it's really the main three are the the media chapters yeah and basically sum it up it's basically just random Japanese boy dies and gets reincarnated as Yamcha right at the start of.
[00:16:27] Dragon ball and then he basically uses his knowledge like well because they make the jokes saying imagine if you got reincarnated to someone like Yamcha like what would happen.
[00:16:37] And it's basically he uses all of his knowledge of the series to basically prevent Yamcha from being pathetic yeah actually avoids dying throughout the entire like section of this story that's covered in this one volume.
[00:16:52] He does and he he ends up going to nemic and training on nemic before Goku goes there which is interesting.
[00:17:02] It's interestingly it's kind of hard to explain like because it is a very quick story and it kind of goes by i'm trying to pick out like the key moments like I know at one point like that I noticed that was kind of interesting was he tries to uh.
[00:17:21] He realizes he can like get with ballnut and like actually not be a douche and cheat on her but then he then he remembers trunks and he ends up letting it go just because he just want to race trunks from the universe yeah because that would screw up the story and then any chance he had no surviving we kind of go out the window because.
[00:17:39] So you changed the course of this story it kind of changes everything yeah it's just really funny like reading through this and just seeing moments where Yamcha is like kicking ass yeah i'm.
[00:17:51] Like I love this scene right here where like everyone kind of does like the fall take when Goku's talking about his tail at the beginning and he's just like oh I forgot people do that then he falls backwards yeah like this a few like things like where he like kind of like fanboys a little bit on the inside whenever like something happens that he doesn't.
[00:18:15] Think about hmm.
[00:18:18] Yeah I think it's kind of cool how like um then he's all geared up to go to West City and start dating fall might all this other stuff is any remembers himself dead.
[00:18:27] And I remember that Yamcha is going to die in the sand song and he's like well shit like you know I got to start doing some things that I don't just end up pathetic like option so instead of going to West City right at the beginning he goes with Goku was us training with Rochie right away.
[00:18:44] hmm which is pretty cool.
[00:18:50] You also apparently did like all of Goku's like training montages like he.
[00:18:55] Went up to Corin's tower did all that groupie stuff.
[00:19:02] Also the way he gets the name because interesting he finds the spaceship early which totally isn't going to screw this line up at all yeah.
[00:19:10] Yeah.
[00:19:13] Yeah I do find it kind of odd that it goes from the end of the first arc where Yamcha is like alright I'm going to go train with Rochie with you Goku and then you turn the page and it's the same saga and there's this excitement yeah like literally just leaves frog go leap frogs over everything in original dragon ball.
[00:19:35] Yeah which is interesting because you wonder how that would have changed everything yeah for sure.
[00:19:42] But yeah I love how it kind of like starts out where he's going to fight this I have a man and it kind of starts out the same way and then all six of them explode on him.
[00:19:53] It is totally fine.
[00:19:56] One of my favorite like mythology gags mostly just because it's a joke that only will work because of like the fact that this guy knows everything about dragon ball.
[00:20:04] When he's fighting Vegeta he makes the point at one point of being like hey Vegeta look over there it's fierce to destroyer.
[00:20:12] Yeah and Vegeta like legitimately goes huh then it just enough time to distract him yeah which isn't really funny because it's like that is such a reference that like makes no sense at that time of the end.
[00:20:25] Yeah series but it's funny how they bring include that into it yeah it's pretty great.
[00:20:35] Also the fact that he goes to kill Vegeta when Goku won't but he ends up not doing it just because he wants again is gilded by trunks.
[00:20:42] Yeah which you know fair trunks is a great character and any true dragon ball fan wouldn't want to erase trunks with a timeline.
[00:20:51] So what did you think of a chiatsu being evil just for the fuck of it yeah just out of nowhere so like oh there's another another person who is reincarnated like you.
[00:21:05] And you're like all the time you're thinking like which one of these people isn't and then it turns out to be the one person who is more pathetic than Chathen.
[00:21:16] I know it's like I turn I turned the page and just saw this image and I was just like what the like what am I reading now.
[00:21:23] Like where have we gone in this yeah that's pretty silly.
[00:21:29] And then yeah so he goes dynamic and that's like kind of his whole.
[00:21:35] His whole like way of trying to improve well enough for the say and so he has the.
[00:21:41] The old dynamic guru awaken his power and then he trains with nail for what like six months something like that.
[00:21:50] And yeah I think by the end of it his power level is like 10,000 which is actually higher than Goku's is when he comes back to earth.
[00:22:01] I'll never understand draggable power levels I will never understand well that's the thing about them is they they're only there just to prove that they're unreliable.
[00:22:10] Pretty much yeah yeah.
[00:22:17] But yeah I don't know it's just silly and then friggin nap I guess taking out like nothing.
[00:22:25] Yeah he does.
[00:22:28] He got taken I mean he got taken out like nothing.
[00:22:32] The first time around as well but yeah, but I don't know it just makes you kind of wonder like how.
[00:22:39] I just wish they it's about more time on it like if it didn't necessarily have to be a whole series but like you know.
[00:22:46] Maybe like a slightly bulky or the normal size of volume with like regular like a regular like 10 to 15 chapter volume yeah and actually kind of like go into a little bit more because there's so many things that kind of don't make a whole lot of sense.
[00:23:05] Because if if he was so quick to destroy all the cyber men and pretty much immediately take out Napa.
[00:23:12] Then how does Goku show up in time because part of that whole thing was like Vegeta and Napa just kind of sat around a wait if it's three hours.
[00:23:22] Yeah well the timeline is already broken enough so Goku just arrived earlier.
[00:23:31] That's fair.
[00:23:34] We'll use some Toriyama logic here yeah well you kind of have to what it comes any kind of drag on ball.
[00:23:43] There's just something funny about Yamcha holding up Goku after a fight like yeah right.
[00:23:51] It's just so not right but like you just kind of accept it because it is what it is for real.
[00:23:58] And I love that while they're like having the final fight with Vegeta and the saying hard.
[00:24:04] Yamcha's fighting them and stuff and Vegeta is just doing his usual like villain shit and Yamcha's like I won't let you take ball my he's like who the fuck are you talking about.
[00:24:14] I don't even know who that is.
[00:24:21] This reminds me a lot of like one of Masako X's weird like what if things but like it actually got made into a thing.
[00:24:29] It easily could be honestly and that's why I kind of feel like they definitely could have made it longer.
[00:24:35] I think it's a little bit more fleshed out like even if it just didn't flesh out the parts that we got just kind of added a little bit more from.
[00:24:43] The story that we didn't see any of like the Namekark and freeza and stuff we didn't see anything original drag on ball except for this scene where he realizes he's Yamcha.
[00:24:54] We kind of miss out we're pretty much only see bits of the sand arc and a little bit of the cell arc which we don't even really see the cell arc we just see Yamcha and chow two facing off.
[00:25:06] Yeah, like they're having basically that the cell arc is happening in the background.
[00:25:13] And then Yatsu and Yamcha are just having this like spat somewhere else.
[00:25:19] Yeah, which is really hilarious because you're seeing Yamcha overpowered Yamcha and like sadistic chatsu which is just hilarious in a lot of ways.
[00:25:31] Oh, I hope you mentioned before about how he was like oh it's fierce to destroy behind you or whatever.
[00:25:37] Like the thing that made him think of that in the first place is because he was like oh a full day I get show him that scene from battle the gods of the bingo.
[00:25:44] Oh yeah, I thought it was great to the reveal at the end that the entire thing is literally just furious and choppa just bullshitting.
[00:25:59] It just happened like a little contest like my my dragon ball weave is better than your dragon ball weave.
[00:26:08] And literally playing a game called the reincarnation game which is just hilarious for real.
[00:26:15] And then when they're done, they just send them back for real, which is just goofy.
[00:26:24] I love the little handings in to.
[00:26:28] Oh yeah, he uses his Yamcha powers to knock up the girl skirt.
[00:26:35] Yeah, they had they had to conclude that plot trend.
[00:26:40] I also love them.
[00:26:42] So first of all there's like the inside cover illustrations on either side where you got the one of Yamcha beating up drum and you got the one of.
[00:26:53] Yeah, I can beat him up burger.
[00:26:56] Yes, which is kind of cool gives you like a little bit of insight on those things but during like the in between the chapters there's also like you see one little scene of him fighting the invisible guy and he's like he knows that ballmas boobs are about to get pulled out.
[00:27:18] And then he's just kind of like standing there waiting.
[00:27:23] Yeah, and then yeah the say and one is just kind of him waiting with with Yadro if you so word because apparently he's going to cut the sort of the tail off.
[00:27:32] Yes.
[00:27:36] We're just kind of a little bit because that's like the one thing Yadro big ought to do.
[00:27:39] Yeah, before he just became.
[00:27:43] Maybe he became corn's buddy.
[00:27:48] And then the last one is he's facing off against Dr. Zero.
[00:27:57] Oh yeah, right.
[00:28:01] The extra story I thought was pretty funny.
[00:28:05] Where Yamcha like decides to like he's trying to confess to boom.
[00:28:10] So he decides to change his appearance and he like gets the short air and like suit look that he has at one point.
[00:28:16] Yeah, and he ends up stopping like a robbery.
[00:28:20] And like.
[00:28:23] And so he ends up like saving a beachy knockoff basically.
[00:28:33] Yeah, it's probably like a teenage GG.
[00:28:37] Yeah to somewhat it's mostly just because Tori on his email characters all kind of look the same unfortunately.
[00:28:47] But then he ends up once again just not.
[00:28:50] Not doing anything because of trunks, but he does fight Vegeta and gets his ass kicked.
[00:28:57] Yeah, which is pretty funny.
[00:28:59] It's like the one time he does in this story.
[00:29:02] And I love how he's like when he's on his way to go on like a festival or.
[00:29:08] He wanted to ask like relationship advice.
[00:29:11] And he's like going through his head is like well, Goku doesn't do that.
[00:29:16] Go Hans a kid.
[00:29:18] Piccolo also doesn't do that.
[00:29:20] It's like who the fuck am I supposed to talk to you?
[00:29:23] And eventually settles on Krill and to what this point is no dating experience whatsoever.
[00:29:28] Yeah, I like his his his react his reasoning is Goku skipped the dating face and got married right away.
[00:29:36] Gohan is a great guy, but he's still a kid.
[00:29:40] I remember piccolo saying I have no idea in regards to dating so not him.
[00:29:46] He is too.
[00:29:49] He and his two stoic.
[00:29:53] Yeah, just basically.
[00:29:56] Should I confide in the turtle?
[00:29:58] Did I talk to the turtle about this?
[00:30:01] I mean, for all we know turtle knows best like he probably has the best dating advice out of anybody.
[00:30:06] I think he I think it's a established that he does have children.
[00:30:11] I mean he's been around for so long.
[00:30:13] Yeah, he's what 999 years old something like that.
[00:30:18] Because I think they had this an episode where they're celebrating his thousandth birthday.
[00:30:24] Yeah, I love how he does really like he does actually consider the turtle though which is great.
[00:30:30] All in the end just to get his ass kicked by a Vegeta.
[00:30:37] And then the final bonus chapter is literally just TN and shot suit shooting the shit after they make up.
[00:30:44] Yeah, they decide to do the fusion dance.
[00:30:47] And they basically they're their entire conclusion to it is let's never do that again.
[00:30:53] Yeah, because they're like an abomination.
[00:30:56] Yeah, it is it is something.
[00:31:01] It's right here for anyone who wants to see the video version.
[00:31:05] It's yeah, it's pretty goofy and they probably would actually be pretty damn strong too but.
[00:31:12] And how they managed to do it because they established like oh like the rules of Dragon Ball were not similar heights so we can't fuse.
[00:31:18] So they're like oh yeah the Dragon Ball fusions game let's get ball more than make those arm bands from that game and then we could just do it.
[00:31:26] Yeah, basically there's like the one shout out to that game that it's ever gotten which is upsetting because it's a great game everyone everyone is a Dragon Ball fan should play.
[00:31:39] Also the trend of magas for rating you for not reading the right way.
[00:31:43] Yeah, only in the West though because we do stupid westerners.
[00:31:49] Yeah, I mean overall like there isn't really a ton to say it is a very enjoyable read through the first time but to me it's kind of like once you've read it once you kind of experienced it.
[00:32:01] Yeah, that's true.
[00:32:03] And you can read it super fast I read it like a 20 minute half hour period.
[00:32:09] Yeah, it's it's a very quick read mostly because it's just it's mostly recap.
[00:32:13] Yeah, it's just kind of little subtle things change here and there.
[00:32:18] But I mean if you see this at like your local bookstore comic shop.
[00:32:24] Like $9 like it's not a bad deal at all.
[00:32:29] Yeah, I mean it is definitely smaller than your average volume of manga.
[00:32:34] Yes, yes it is.
[00:32:37] I mean it's definitely nice to have you know when I said before what I found out there was going to be a good volume my body is delayed.
[00:32:45] I mean it's it's definitely worth worth the read.
[00:32:48] I just I wish like what when this happened and what it actually got a volume.
[00:32:53] I thought that they were going to have this guy do more of these are that we're going to get more of these kinds of like out out of the box side stories.
[00:33:02] And we've yet to get one since this and this came out and I want to say 2016 2017.
[00:33:09] I want to say yeah.
[00:33:14] It says he got the job offer in 2016 in the back of the book here.
[00:33:24] So yeah what did come out like right around that time 2016 2017.
[00:33:29] It's definitely older too because it's still got the old show and jump logo on there.
[00:33:35] So that dates it a little bit.
[00:33:38] I mean it would be nice if we got more of those kinds of stories.
[00:33:42] It would have been cool, especially since I like his particular style.
[00:33:46] He emulates Toriama's artwork very well and to the point where I've actually heard a lot of people say that he should have actually been the person to.
[00:33:55] To go under Toriama's wing as opposed to Tariotaro which I mean.
[00:34:02] It's not the hero there either way it nobody can like fully copy that art.
[00:34:08] He's got a very there's a reason why he's one of the most influential artists in manga like with so many people have copied his style over the years.
[00:34:17] But I mean I should look into this guy and see if he's published anything else because.
[00:34:29] I'd like to see like if he has an original manga I'd like to see what kind of thing he would do.
[00:34:36] The interesting.
[00:34:38] Well, but I did I can actually let's let's consult the Wikipedia machine and see if we can find anything about this guy.
[00:34:46] So.
[00:34:53] Let's see here.
[00:34:57] It's actually harder to find this on Wikipedia than I expected.
[00:35:02] Is it just because it's a it's kind of a weird name.
[00:35:05] Yeah for sure.
[00:35:07] Yeah, it's got a it's got a modern anime title that's for sure.
[00:35:11] And you know it's I think he might have just come up with this name for this.
[00:35:16] I mean the fact that his name is dragging gear Lee.
[00:35:19] It is very clearly like a you know it's.
[00:35:22] He based that name around Dragon Ball Z.
[00:35:25] So I'm wondering if he just came up with that name just to have a like pen name attached to this particular project.
[00:35:34] Yeah, um let's see here.
[00:35:42] Um.
[00:35:46] Well, this isn't as.
[00:35:50] Is not much to see.
[00:35:53] So the top.
[00:35:56] The top thing that appears is the he has a page on the Dragon Ball Wiki so that's already it not a great sign.
[00:36:04] Yeah.
[00:36:07] Okay his only work apparently is this.
[00:36:11] That's a that's kind of a bomber.
[00:36:13] I really hope and he would he would have more to his name than that.
[00:36:18] So I guess he has some.
[00:36:21] Josh Doshinji that he's done but nothing official.
[00:36:26] That's fanmonger right? Yes, okay.
[00:36:31] Is it yeah, well fanmonger or just just a bunch of other stuff.
[00:36:35] It doesn't list any of it.
[00:36:38] Alright fair enough.
[00:36:39] Yeah, I'd have to do some deep diving to actually find.
[00:36:42] I'm always worried about that because you never know it might be a porn thing or something who knows.
[00:36:50] But no, it's definitely it's definitely a fun read.
[00:36:54] Hopefully we get more of this kind of thing in the future.
[00:36:57] Yeah, honestly.
[00:37:00] I mean, I don't think about it.
[00:37:01] It's been almost 10 years.
[00:37:03] That's weird.
[00:37:04] Weird to think about.
[00:37:06] Yeah.
[00:37:07] They got still working a couple of farms with this game up.
[00:37:11] I was at Richards.
[00:37:13] Working nights.
[00:37:15] Good night.
[00:37:16] Yeah, so on the subject of Tory, I'm a stuff I did find my copy of Sandland so I'll be reading that very shortly.
[00:37:26] That's getting a re-release pretty soon.
[00:37:28] I've heard so I'll be picking up that one that comes out the volume.
[00:37:32] Nice.
[00:37:33] Cool.
[00:37:34] Yeah, because the series is coming out next week.
[00:37:37] Actually, when at the time of this episode, which release it'll be two days.
[00:37:44] Yeah, I'm looking forward to giving that a shot.
[00:37:47] I'm pretty sure it's just the movie that was made last year just cut up in episodes.
[00:37:52] Okay, like the same deals like Kaga Yen movie.
[00:37:56] Okay.
[00:37:58] Well, I'll still check it out.
[00:38:01] I mean, it's still either way as movie quality just split up in episodes.
[00:38:06] So can't be that bad.
[00:38:08] True.
[00:38:09] It's not really that they're that'll be bad and it'll just be I think the flow will get ruined messed up because of that.
[00:38:14] True, but at the same time they, uh, I guess are, I guess Toriyama had come up with a like follow up.
[00:38:24] So there's going to be like a part two to the series.
[00:38:28] Because it's just going to be like a six episode thing covering the events of the manga.
[00:38:32] And then I think later we're going to be getting a follow up six episodes.
[00:38:38] So that'd be kind of cool.
[00:38:41] Now, definitely looking forward to that.
[00:38:46] Yeah, this is going to be a pretty short one but uh, there's really not a whole lot more to add to that one.
[00:38:53] Uh, it is a fun little romp to go through but it like I said earlier, it's kind of a one and done.
[00:38:59] Yeah.
[00:39:01] The art honestly, the art is the biggest highlight to it then like all the little mythology gags they threw in there.
[00:39:07] But as for the overall product, it's very much kind of a very surface level.
[00:39:15] Yeah, it's something basically my recommendation is if you're a fan of Dragon Ball definitely pick it up or especially if you're a fan of Yamcha.
[00:39:22] Because they do exist.
[00:39:25] Yamcha fans out there, but um.
[00:39:29] Otherwise I probably wouldn't recommend if you're not a big Toriyama Dragon Ball guy because it is very much.
[00:39:35] Very much attached to that overall.
[00:39:39] Basically, if I was going to give it a rating, uh, I'd say if it's your first time reading it, I'd give it a solid eight.
[00:39:47] If it's your second time reading it, it drops down a bit because there's nothing really.
[00:39:53] It's so bare bones that it's not like you forget anything, you know, it's not like you're re-experiencing it.
[00:39:59] You're just kind of like reminding yourself, oh yeah, is that that that?
[00:40:04] I think on my any list, I gave it a 75 overall.
[00:40:11] Like good score but nothing like nothing to write home about.
[00:40:15] Yeah.
[00:40:18] At the end of the day, it pretty much just boils down to a fan topic.
[00:40:22] Pretty much. It's a very, it's a funny thing with some fun art.
[00:40:27] That'll give you enjoyment the first time around then it's not expensive at all so.
[00:40:31] It's just kind of sad that like Moscow X is one of those going way more depth than this does.
[00:40:38] I mean, doesn't the reddit series have like 30 something parts?
[00:40:42] It's extended beyond that too because he made like an original series based around reddit's his kid.
[00:40:48] Oh right, yeah, oh yeah, because he was the one that started the reddit's launch ship which is now just a thing.
[00:40:55] Yeah in the community.
[00:40:58] Yeah, they did do that.
[00:41:00] I've actually recently seen a picture of like.
[00:41:05] I've got a Goku with go 10 Vegeta with trunks and radits with the fuck is.
[00:41:15] Ranch, ranch is the yeah, ranch.
[00:41:20] It's not the most not the most creative name but no, but.
[00:41:28] I know, okay, could have been worse.
[00:41:32] That series is very fascinating to what listen to like the first time around but then you realize like he is I think he likes I think he likes radits a little too much sometimes.
[00:41:42] It was funny as he has like on because I don't know if you know he has a podcast.
[00:41:48] Oh, to zero. Yeah, I don't think he's updated in a while though, but um he was doing like dramatic readings of his way of freezing turn good story for a while on that.
[00:41:57] Okay, that was interesting.
[00:42:01] Who how many people has he done like what if what if they turn good like series or whatever I'm pretty sure he's done them for like everyone but a pool.
[00:42:10] Yeah, at this point because he's done like all the major villains.
[00:42:15] I mean, we already turned good so he's kind of a move point.
[00:42:19] I remember the Napa one, the Napa one was interesting.
[00:42:23] Yeah, that was kind of silly and then what was some of the other ones.
[00:42:28] He did what if what if a guinea went to earth with Goku that was one.
[00:42:35] What if the saying's believed Bardock?
[00:42:38] What if was a there's a one of cell turn good what to board turn good.
[00:42:45] He's basically done all he's done all the big fan and what if basically pretty much I think he spawned a lot of the dragon ball band fandom a lot away.
[00:42:56] Yeah, I think there was one that was like what if Vegeta went to earth instead of Goku or something.
[00:43:01] That's it was that was actually been a real one.
[00:43:05] Like a real like fan manga. I'm not sure.
[00:43:07] Dragon Ball side thing was not the concept behind that.
[00:43:12] I don't remember to be honest that I'd have to look into it.
[00:43:15] See, I know of plenty of fan magas.
[00:43:18] I just have only read one or two of them.
[00:43:22] Multiverse is the one I went real deep into.
[00:43:27] And that one's really cool because it kind of has a lot of those what if ideas built into the structure of the story.
[00:43:35] Because the whole idea of that is obviously it's a big multiverse tournament.
[00:43:41] Like each of the universe is involved is like if things played out differently, like this is the universe that that spawned.
[00:43:50] Like there was one where Goku never hit his head and actually didn't wipe out the earth and joined up with radids in Vegeta and then.
[00:44:01] It's just a complete fucking psychopath.
[00:44:04] That's like a very common fan fan ideas the evil Goku.
[00:44:11] Yeah, which is basically just turlis but I'm.
[00:44:16] I think actually from the same it might even be from the same.
[00:44:21] I know maybe it wasn't I know there was another universe.
[00:44:24] Where demon king piccolo won but then raddit showed up and it was a huge problem.
[00:44:31] So he and Tommy kind of just made like an agreement to re merge to deal with that.
[00:44:39] So like, like piccolo and Tommy did re merge, but it was king piccolo not piccolo junior.
[00:44:48] So piccolo junior never actually got created in this universe.
[00:44:53] Yeah. And you know, those one were like Vegeta never unfused and then went on to impregnate ballma so bra is actually like ridiculously powerful.
[00:45:05] Like broly level powerful.
[00:45:10] I was just going to say for cheat sheet. She always gets the short stick.
[00:45:14] Yeah, well they kind of like they kind of brought attention to that because at that point it was like they discussed it and cheat sheet was like,
[00:45:22] well, you know what go who's been dead for seven years.
[00:45:25] I'm not just going to take your husband from you like that would be unfair.
[00:45:29] Yeah, I can't at least think thought of it.
[00:45:32] I was just going to say well, I'm like CG.
[00:45:35] But now they have a lot of fun concepts and honestly like the story itself is interesting.
[00:45:40] I need to catch up on it honestly.
[00:45:43] One thing though is they it's a lot bloodier than Dragon Ball usually is a lot of fan stuff is.
[00:45:51] But it's it's definitely worth a read the only weird thing though is it it's made by I think a couple of English guys.
[00:46:01] So like you know UK guys reads left to right.
[00:46:07] And that's kind of jarring when you're used to reading manga.
[00:46:10] Yeah, you know you see Dragon Ball characters and you want to turn it the other way and it's just confusing a little bit but.
[00:46:16] There whenever I'm switching between manga and American comics there's always like that a couple second like moment where I have to like retrain my eyes which way to read.
[00:46:29] Yeah though, I guess that kind of does it for this episode.
[00:46:34] Like we said not a whole lot to talk about on this one we're going to be continuing our Dragon Ball marathon next week with another topic.
