[00:00:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Hey everybody! On this episode of Gaming Collecting, me and Alex take some time to talk about the various failed video game systems over the years. Just kind of discussing some of the systems and kind of just talking our thoughts on how they did or did not succeed I guess in the gaming world. Also we found it really amusing how many systems that sold better than the Atari Jaguar. Alex was very upset by this, you know, common Alex stuff. But anyways guys, on with the episode.
[00:00:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Who's thing in the background is going off?
[00:00:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Did you hear it? Did you hear it? I didn't realize you could hear it. You want me to turn it off?
[00:00:57] [SPEAKER_00]: No, it's not that loud. I just, I was like, what the fuck is that noise? And I looked over and I thought, how you been Alex? How you been?
[00:01:10] [SPEAKER_05]: Bill had to practice his skills of not negotiating with terrorists. A.k.a. my cat. My cat is a terrorist that lives in my house.
[00:01:20] [SPEAKER_05]: She actively tries to kill me every day. She trips me down the stairs. She violently bites my ankles. So she's a terrorist. In my mind.
[00:01:30] [SPEAKER_00]: And her name is Poo.
[00:01:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Poo.
[00:01:32] [SPEAKER_05]: Yes, her name is Poo. But I have dubbed her Miss Dingles as her nickname for dingleberries if you're wondering.
[00:01:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Lovely.
[00:01:43] [SPEAKER_03]: Poo.
[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Poo.
[00:01:46] [SPEAKER_05]: Poo.
[00:01:47] [SPEAKER_05]: All right.
[00:01:49] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh.
[00:02:04] [SPEAKER_05]: This is kind of gross.
[00:02:10] [SPEAKER_05]: and I was doing something, and then suddenly I just
[00:02:12] [SPEAKER_05]: hear, I could hear her peeing
[00:02:14] [SPEAKER_05]: and I hated every second of it.
[00:02:16] [SPEAKER_05]: I was like, ugh!
[00:02:18] [SPEAKER_05]: I didn't need to know about that.
[00:02:20] [SPEAKER_05]: I didn't need to use that.
[00:02:23] [SPEAKER_00]: At least she
[00:02:24] [SPEAKER_00]: was doing it in the box.
[00:02:26] [SPEAKER_05]: Thank God for that.
[00:02:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Unlike the poor pretty girls by the end
[00:02:30] [SPEAKER_00]: when they were getting old and they were just missing
[00:02:32] [SPEAKER_00]: it all the time.
[00:02:35] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm grateful
[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_05]: for that, but I didn't want to hear it.
[00:02:38] [SPEAKER_05]: I was just like, oh, why can I hear it?
[00:02:40] [SPEAKER_05]: So clearly. I don't want
[00:02:42] [SPEAKER_05]: to hear this.
[00:02:45] [SPEAKER_05]: This is another
[00:02:47] [SPEAKER_00]: week.
[00:02:47] [SPEAKER_05]: Another week, another day, another dollar.
[00:02:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I started it by violently
[00:02:52] [SPEAKER_00]: throwing up, so that was great.
[00:02:54] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm glad that didn't happen
[00:02:56] [SPEAKER_05]: to me.
[00:02:57] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what it was, but I
[00:03:00] [SPEAKER_00]: couldn't sleep for shit.
[00:03:02] [SPEAKER_05]: Food poisoning.
[00:03:04] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. All I know is I couldn't
[00:03:06] [SPEAKER_00]: sleep for shit on
[00:03:08] [SPEAKER_00]: a Sunday night, so
[00:03:10] [SPEAKER_00]: I ended up waking up.
[00:03:12] [SPEAKER_00]: I woke up around
[00:03:16] [SPEAKER_00]: the time I normally wake up for work
[00:03:17] [SPEAKER_00]: on Monday, and my stomach was
[00:03:19] [SPEAKER_00]: bothering me.
[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_00]: I was super tired, so I just
[00:03:23] [SPEAKER_00]: rest my eyes for a few more minutes.
[00:03:25] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't have to be until an hour later.
[00:03:28] [SPEAKER_00]: The next thing I know, it's literally
[00:03:29] [SPEAKER_00]: 10 minutes before I'm supposed to punch in,
[00:03:31] [SPEAKER_00]: and I was like, shit.
[00:03:33] [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm like, all right, I guess I'll come in.
[00:03:35] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll put in for an hour to come
[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_00]: and leave. And then the second I get up,
[00:03:39] [SPEAKER_00]: it just hit me, and I was in the
[00:03:41] [SPEAKER_00]: bathroom most of the day.
[00:03:44] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:03:45] [SPEAKER_00]: I was like,
[00:03:46] [SPEAKER_00]: I was just like, yeah, I'm not coming in.
[00:03:48] [SPEAKER_00]: I just put in for a full vacation,
[00:03:50] [SPEAKER_00]: full sick day, and
[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_00]: was like, yeah, I'm not coming in. I'm
[00:03:54] [SPEAKER_00]: vomiting repeatedly.
[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_05]: If you make me come in,
[00:03:58] [SPEAKER_05]: I will vomit on your desk.
[00:04:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I basically was
[00:04:02] [SPEAKER_00]: using the reasoning, if I come in, I'm going to spend
[00:04:04] [SPEAKER_00]: the entire day in the bathroom doing nothing anyways,
[00:04:06] [SPEAKER_00]: so I might as well just not come in.
[00:04:08] [SPEAKER_00]: And I might get people sick.
[00:04:10] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:04:12] [SPEAKER_05]: Smart choice.
[00:04:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:04:15] [SPEAKER_00]: That's how my week started.
[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_00]: I use the time to sleep
[00:04:20] [SPEAKER_00]: and watch anime.
[00:04:21] [SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, no.
[00:04:23] [SPEAKER_05]: How many shows are you at?
[00:04:26] [SPEAKER_00]: I'd have to do the count,
[00:04:28] [SPEAKER_00]: but I added at least, like, two more.
[00:04:30] [SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
[00:04:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Nice, nice, nice.
[00:04:33] [SPEAKER_05]: I know.
[00:04:33] [SPEAKER_05]: I finally finished Nana.
[00:04:35] [SPEAKER_05]: That one I had been, like, waiting,
[00:04:37] [SPEAKER_05]: because that one's, like, 47 episodes,
[00:04:39] [SPEAKER_05]: so it's quite a bit.
[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_05]: This is that one I finally did,
[00:04:44] [SPEAKER_05]: and then I'm watching,
[00:04:45] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to finish up the
[00:04:47] [SPEAKER_05]: one for our next podcast
[00:04:49] [SPEAKER_05]: next week.
[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_05]: Tonight.
[00:04:53] [SPEAKER_05]: And then I'll start Slime,
[00:04:55] [SPEAKER_05]: I think,
[00:04:56] [SPEAKER_05]: is my plan,
[00:04:57] [SPEAKER_05]: since the dub is finishing today.
[00:04:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Nice.
[00:05:00] [SPEAKER_05]: Now give me a sufficient amount of time.
[00:05:02] [SPEAKER_05]: How many episodes?
[00:05:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Uh, it's,
[00:05:04] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah,
[00:05:05] [SPEAKER_00]: it's like a 20,
[00:05:07] [SPEAKER_00]: 23,
[00:05:07] [SPEAKER_00]: 24-ish,
[00:05:08] [SPEAKER_00]: I think.
[00:05:08] [SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
[00:05:09] [SPEAKER_05]: That's not bad.
[00:05:10] [SPEAKER_05]: Uh, yeah,
[00:05:11] [SPEAKER_05]: because then I'll do that,
[00:05:12] [SPEAKER_05]: and then I'll watch my Hero.
[00:05:14] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, remember, though,
[00:05:15] [SPEAKER_00]: you got to watch those,
[00:05:16] [SPEAKER_00]: um,
[00:05:16] [SPEAKER_00]: you got to watch that OVA first.
[00:05:18] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah,
[00:05:18] [SPEAKER_05]: so I'll watch the OVAs first.
[00:05:19] [SPEAKER_05]: I'll probably walk it through the OVAs
[00:05:21] [SPEAKER_05]: tonight.
[00:05:22] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:05:23] [SPEAKER_05]: I'll probably plan to do that,
[00:05:24] [SPEAKER_05]: and then I'll watch,
[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_05]: start watching Slime.
[00:05:26] [SPEAKER_05]: But I'm excited about that.
[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_05]: I can't wait to watch that.
[00:05:29] [SPEAKER_00]: It was a really good season.
[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_00]: It made me really hyped
[00:05:31] [SPEAKER_00]: that it's getting another movie
[00:05:33] [SPEAKER_00]: and a fourth season,
[00:05:34] [SPEAKER_00]: so.
[00:05:34] [SPEAKER_02]: Yay!
[00:05:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:05:37] [SPEAKER_00]: it's a very all-over-the-place season,
[00:05:38] [SPEAKER_00]: though.
[00:05:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Like,
[00:05:39] [SPEAKER_00]: it starts off like,
[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_00]: it begins in going one direction,
[00:05:43] [SPEAKER_00]: and then by the end,
[00:05:43] [SPEAKER_00]: it's going a completely different direction.
[00:05:45] [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like,
[00:05:45] [SPEAKER_00]: this is interesting,
[00:05:46] [SPEAKER_00]: but I kind of like it.
[00:05:48] Hmm.
[00:05:48] [SPEAKER_05]: All right.
[00:05:49] [SPEAKER_05]: Well,
[00:05:49] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm looking forward to it.
[00:05:51] [SPEAKER_05]: Did you look at my spreadsheet I made?
[00:05:54] [SPEAKER_05]: Did you ever look at it?
[00:05:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh,
[00:05:56] [SPEAKER_00]: the one that you sent me on.
[00:05:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah,
[00:05:57] [SPEAKER_00]: it wouldn't open on my phone,
[00:05:58] [SPEAKER_00]: so I'll have to look at it on my computer
[00:05:59] [SPEAKER_00]: after we finish recording.
[00:06:01] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm making a spreadsheet
[00:06:02] [SPEAKER_05]: to track all of my anime watching
[00:06:05] [SPEAKER_05]: because I am that person.
[00:06:07] [SPEAKER_05]: And I'll offer,
[00:06:08] [SPEAKER_05]: I'll give it to the group
[00:06:09] [SPEAKER_05]: once I know it works
[00:06:11] [SPEAKER_05]: that you can look at it
[00:06:13] [SPEAKER_05]: somewhere else.
[00:06:15] [SPEAKER_05]: I'll send it to the group
[00:06:16] [SPEAKER_05]: and be like,
[00:06:17] [SPEAKER_05]: if you want to do this,
[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_05]: you can borrow my,
[00:06:21] [SPEAKER_05]: my spreadsheet.
[00:06:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Yay.
[00:06:25] [SPEAKER_05]: Because it's helping me track.
[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_05]: Well,
[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_05]: because I'm a crazy person.
[00:06:27] [SPEAKER_05]: I was like,
[00:06:27] [SPEAKER_05]: ooh,
[00:06:28] [SPEAKER_05]: on the Mal app,
[00:06:32] [SPEAKER_05]: Mal,
[00:06:32] [SPEAKER_05]: it like tells you the episode like length,
[00:06:35] [SPEAKER_05]: like the average episode length.
[00:06:36] [SPEAKER_05]: So some of them will be like 22 minutes.
[00:06:38] [SPEAKER_05]: Some will be like 23.
[00:06:39] [SPEAKER_05]: So I'm taking that,
[00:06:41] [SPEAKER_05]: multiplying that by the number of episodes
[00:06:43] [SPEAKER_05]: and then getting a running total.
[00:06:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Bill,
[00:06:45] [SPEAKER_05]: do you want to hear my current total?
[00:06:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
[00:06:53] [SPEAKER_05]: 23,974 minutes,
[00:06:55] [SPEAKER_05]: which equates to around 400 hours.
[00:06:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah,
[00:06:59] [SPEAKER_00]: that's,
[00:06:59] [SPEAKER_00]: that's actually not as much as I thought,
[00:07:02] [SPEAKER_05]: which is 4.56% of the year.
[00:07:06] [SPEAKER_00]: That's,
[00:07:06] [SPEAKER_00]: that's actually not that bad.
[00:07:08] [SPEAKER_00]: All things can say.
[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean,
[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_05]: like,
[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_05]: it's still a lot though.
[00:07:13] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a lot,
[00:07:14] [SPEAKER_00]: but honestly,
[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_00]: I was expecting worse for some reason.
[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_05]: Hey,
[00:07:19] [SPEAKER_05]: it's not the end of the year yet.
[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_05]: So,
[00:07:21] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean,
[00:07:21] [SPEAKER_05]: I have also been very busy.
[00:07:22] [SPEAKER_05]: So that's true.
[00:07:24] [SPEAKER_05]: I probably won't have the longest list this year,
[00:07:26] [SPEAKER_05]: but you know,
[00:07:27] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to keep trying.
[00:07:28] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know about that,
[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Alex.
[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm trying to get to a hundred.
[00:07:32] [SPEAKER_05]: That's my plan.
[00:07:33] [SPEAKER_05]: I kind of want to get to a hundred by the end of the year.
[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll be lucky to get to 50.
[00:07:38] [SPEAKER_05]: And I'm really branching out and watching shows that I wouldn't necessarily watch.
[00:07:42] [SPEAKER_05]: So.
[00:07:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:07:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Can you hear that?
[00:07:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:07:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Alex is like squeezing a stress ball this entire time,
[00:07:51] [SPEAKER_00]: which is always wonderful.
[00:07:55] [SPEAKER_05]: Is that good noise?
[00:07:56] No.
[00:07:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh,
[00:08:02] [SPEAKER_05]: what are you drinking,
[00:08:03] [SPEAKER_05]: Bill?
[00:08:04] [SPEAKER_00]: I have a Cayman Jack margarita in a can because.
[00:08:07] [SPEAKER_05]: I haven't had one of those in a while.
[00:08:09] [SPEAKER_05]: Could you walk one over to me right now?
[00:08:11] No.
[00:08:12] [SPEAKER_05]: Please?
[00:08:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Please?
[00:08:14] [SPEAKER_00]: No.
[00:08:15] [SPEAKER_00]: It's,
[00:08:16] [SPEAKER_00]: it's getting cold out.
[00:08:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
[00:08:18] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to walk across the street.
[00:08:22] [SPEAKER_05]: I have my own drink.
[00:08:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Bill,
[00:08:23] [SPEAKER_05]: are you going to ask me what I'm drinking?
[00:08:25] [SPEAKER_00]: What are you drinking,
[00:08:27] ma'am?
[00:08:27] [SPEAKER_05]: I am drinking a Chi forest,
[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_05]: sparkling water,
[00:08:32] [SPEAKER_05]: zero sugar,
[00:08:34] [SPEAKER_05]: zero calories,
[00:08:36] [SPEAKER_05]: white peach,
[00:08:37] [SPEAKER_05]: naturally,
[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_05]: naturally flavored.
[00:08:39] [SPEAKER_05]: If it's not clown music,
[00:08:41] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't want to fucking hear it though.
[00:08:44] [SPEAKER_05]: 11.16
[00:08:45] [SPEAKER_05]: fluid ounces,
[00:08:48] [SPEAKER_05]: 330 milliliters.
[00:08:49] [SPEAKER_05]: Turn that music off,
[00:08:50] [SPEAKER_05]: Bill.
[00:08:51] [SPEAKER_05]: It's not,
[00:08:52] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't want to hear it.
[00:08:55] [SPEAKER_05]: Uh,
[00:08:55] [SPEAKER_05]: what else?
[00:08:56] [SPEAKER_05]: What else?
[00:08:57] [SPEAKER_05]: Zero grams of fat,
[00:08:59] [SPEAKER_05]: 15 milligrams of sodium.
[00:09:02] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:09:03] [SPEAKER_05]: You didn't put your stupid banner up.
[00:09:05] [SPEAKER_05]: Good.
[00:09:05] [SPEAKER_05]: Um,
[00:09:06] [SPEAKER_05]: 10 milligrams of potassium.
[00:09:09] [SPEAKER_05]: And,
[00:09:10] [SPEAKER_05]: and you can recycle it.
[00:09:13] [SPEAKER_05]: And,
[00:09:13] [SPEAKER_05]: turn off the stupid.
[00:09:16] [SPEAKER_05]: You want to hear the ingredients?
[00:09:19] [SPEAKER_05]: No?
[00:09:19] [SPEAKER_05]: Okay,
[00:09:20] [SPEAKER_05]: I'll tell you anyways.
[00:09:21] [SPEAKER_05]: Uh,
[00:09:21] [SPEAKER_05]: carbonated water,
[00:09:23] [SPEAKER_05]: a red thereseal,
[00:09:25] [SPEAKER_05]: natural flavors,
[00:09:27] [SPEAKER_05]: citric acid,
[00:09:28] [SPEAKER_05]: potassium,
[00:09:29] [SPEAKER_05]: sorbate,
[00:09:32] [SPEAKER_05]: sherbet,
[00:09:33] [SPEAKER_05]: or sherbet,
[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_05]: sherbet,
[00:09:36] [SPEAKER_05]: or sherbet.
[00:09:38] [SPEAKER_05]: Bill,
[00:09:38] [SPEAKER_05]: it's the question I need to know the answer to.
[00:09:43] [SPEAKER_05]: Bill,
[00:09:45] [SPEAKER_05]: sherbet,
[00:09:45] [SPEAKER_05]: well,
[00:09:45] [SPEAKER_05]: you're going to have to answer it later.
[00:09:50] [SPEAKER_05]: You better ask all those questions.
[00:09:54] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm sure.
[00:09:55] [SPEAKER_05]: All 14 of them.
[00:09:57] [SPEAKER_05]: No,
[00:09:58] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm not.
[00:10:02] [SPEAKER_00]: I really wish you just smashed your computer screen.
[00:10:06] [SPEAKER_05]: Now you have to listen to this.
[00:10:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I've heard worse.
[00:10:12] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah,
[00:10:13] [SPEAKER_00]: uh,
[00:10:14] [SPEAKER_00]: it's,
[00:10:14] [SPEAKER_00]: it's starting a cold and I don't like it.
[00:10:17] [SPEAKER_05]: Well,
[00:10:18] [SPEAKER_05]: you want to borrow Pooh's fur coat?
[00:10:21] [SPEAKER_00]: No.
[00:10:22] [SPEAKER_00]: I can sweep the floor at your house.
[00:10:24] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure I'll find enough.
[00:10:25] [SPEAKER_05]: Exactly.
[00:10:26] [SPEAKER_05]: You want to get one?
[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_05]: I could give you a coat.
[00:10:29] [SPEAKER_00]: I have so many jackets and sweatshirts.
[00:10:31] [SPEAKER_00]: I never wear because I always wear the same.
[00:10:34] [SPEAKER_05]: Don't wear one.
[00:10:35] [SPEAKER_05]: Wear a fucking jacket and you won't be cold.
[00:10:38] [SPEAKER_05]: So stop.
[00:10:38] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm still wearing shorts in my house.
[00:10:40] [SPEAKER_05]: So it's not that cold yet.
[00:10:43] [SPEAKER_05]: You little wimp.
[00:10:45] [SPEAKER_00]: I haven't turned the heat on yet.
[00:10:47] [SPEAKER_00]: So we're not at that point yet,
[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_00]: but it's like,
[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_05]: borrow my Bucky's blanket.
[00:10:51] [SPEAKER_00]: No.
[00:10:52] [SPEAKER_05]: It's sacred.
[00:10:53] [SPEAKER_05]: You're not worthy.
[00:10:55] [SPEAKER_00]: That's fine.
[00:10:57] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah,
[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_00]: we're getting closer and closer to fucking the end of the year.
[00:11:01] [SPEAKER_00]: And I hate it.
[00:11:02] [SPEAKER_05]: I know that is a little scary.
[00:11:04] [SPEAKER_05]: I won't lie.
[00:11:06] [SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be,
[00:11:06] [SPEAKER_00]: we're in spoopy season now too.
[00:11:11] [SPEAKER_00]: It's sad though,
[00:11:12] [SPEAKER_00]: that like most of the Halloween stuff is already gone.
[00:11:15] [SPEAKER_00]: And now it's all fucking Christmas stuff.
[00:11:17] [SPEAKER_05]: Well,
[00:11:18] [SPEAKER_05]: or it's just Halloween.
[00:11:19] [SPEAKER_05]: There's no,
[00:11:19] [SPEAKER_05]: just like classic fall stuff.
[00:11:21] [SPEAKER_05]: Like we went the other weekend.
[00:11:22] [SPEAKER_05]: I wanted to try and find like,
[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_05]: like just a little scarecrow to put my yard,
[00:11:26] [SPEAKER_05]: like a little fall scare.
[00:11:27] [SPEAKER_05]: You know,
[00:11:28] [SPEAKER_05]: all they had was like Christmas or just like really spooky stuff that I didn't want.
[00:11:34] [SPEAKER_05]: It's not my aesthetic.
[00:11:36] [SPEAKER_05]: I wanted a darling little scarecrow.
[00:11:39] [SPEAKER_05]: And they didn't have one.
[00:11:41] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm mad.
[00:11:45] [SPEAKER_05]: It's not even,
[00:11:46] [SPEAKER_05]: it's barely October.
[00:11:48] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean,
[00:11:48] [SPEAKER_05]: like it's two weeks.
[00:11:49] [SPEAKER_05]: October.
[00:11:50] [SPEAKER_05]: It's we're not into Christmas.
[00:11:53] [SPEAKER_05]: No,
[00:11:53] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't want to see it.
[00:11:55] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't buy it.
[00:11:57] [SPEAKER_05]: Now I won't get it.
[00:11:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Alex,
[00:11:59] [SPEAKER_00]: next year,
[00:12:00] [SPEAKER_00]: the Christmas season,
[00:12:01] [SPEAKER_00]: the Christmas like stuff is going to go up like December 26th.
[00:12:05] [SPEAKER_05]: Wait,
[00:12:05] [SPEAKER_05]: wait,
[00:12:05] [SPEAKER_05]: actually though,
[00:12:06] [SPEAKER_05]: did you hear about spirit of Halloween is starting spirit of Christmas?
[00:12:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Really?
[00:12:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:12:14] [SPEAKER_05]: And I'm just like,
[00:12:14] [SPEAKER_05]: why didn't they think about that sooner?
[00:12:18] [SPEAKER_00]: So they can take over a bit.
[00:12:21] [SPEAKER_00]: They can take over more abandoned stores.
[00:12:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Money wise.
[00:12:25] [SPEAKER_05]: Like they make so much freaking money selling like going right into Christmas.
[00:12:29] [SPEAKER_05]: People would get,
[00:12:30] [SPEAKER_05]: you know,
[00:12:30] [SPEAKER_05]: employed longer too.
[00:12:32] [SPEAKER_05]: Like it's stupid.
[00:12:33] [SPEAKER_05]: They never thought about doing that.
[00:12:35] [SPEAKER_05]: Like I'm like,
[00:12:35] [SPEAKER_05]: wow.
[00:12:36] [SPEAKER_05]: But then I'm also like,
[00:12:37] [SPEAKER_05]: I never thought of that either.
[00:12:38] [SPEAKER_05]: So,
[00:12:39] [SPEAKER_05]: but I'm excited to see spirit of Christmas appear.
[00:12:42] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm just curious how much of a,
[00:12:44] [SPEAKER_00]: an actual like audience they'd even have just because Halloween costumes.
[00:12:50] [SPEAKER_00]: I get the thing with Christmas is that.
[00:12:53] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't think it's going to be Christmas.
[00:12:55] [SPEAKER_05]: Spirit of Halloween is not just Halloween costumes.
[00:12:58] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:12:58] [SPEAKER_05]: But it's,
[00:12:59] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah,
[00:13:00] [SPEAKER_00]: but it's also the costumes are kind of the gimmick,
[00:13:02] [SPEAKER_00]: the gimmick that keeps it relevant with Christmas.
[00:13:04] [SPEAKER_00]: My,
[00:13:05] [SPEAKER_00]: my whole thing there is like,
[00:13:07] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah,
[00:13:07] [SPEAKER_00]: it's a good idea,
[00:13:08] [SPEAKER_00]: but the thing is everywhere has fucking Christmas stuff.
[00:13:11] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:13:12] [SPEAKER_00]: They'd have to at least either be really competitive sales wise,
[00:13:16] [SPEAKER_00]: or they have to have some stuff that nowhere else does,
[00:13:18] [SPEAKER_00]: but we'll see.
[00:13:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's see how long they keep up with that.
[00:13:21] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean,
[00:13:22] [SPEAKER_05]: like the thing though,
[00:13:23] [SPEAKER_05]: that is nice about,
[00:13:24] [SPEAKER_05]: you know,
[00:13:24] [SPEAKER_05]: there is other places,
[00:13:26] [SPEAKER_05]: but it's nice to just go to one place and be like,
[00:13:28] [SPEAKER_05]: okay,
[00:13:28] [SPEAKER_05]: boom,
[00:13:29] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm just going to get all my stuff in one store,
[00:13:31] [SPEAKER_05]: which I think is the appeal of like a spirit of Halloween.
[00:13:34] [SPEAKER_05]: But we will see,
[00:13:36] [SPEAKER_05]: we'll see if one opens up in our ocean state job law or what used to be
[00:13:40] [SPEAKER_05]: one because it moved into the best buy.
[00:13:42] [SPEAKER_05]: You know what?
[00:13:43] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm amazed.
[00:13:43] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm not the best buy anymore.
[00:13:45] [SPEAKER_00]: You know what?
[00:13:45] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm amazed.
[00:13:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:13:48] [SPEAKER_00]: the fucking,
[00:13:49] [SPEAKER_00]: um,
[00:13:49] [SPEAKER_00]: you know,
[00:13:49] [SPEAKER_00]: the,
[00:13:50] [SPEAKER_00]: you know,
[00:13:51] [SPEAKER_00]: the,
[00:13:51] [SPEAKER_00]: I can't talk,
[00:13:53] [SPEAKER_00]: uh,
[00:13:53] [SPEAKER_00]: you know,
[00:13:53] [SPEAKER_00]: the,
[00:13:54] [SPEAKER_00]: the abandoned blockbuster,
[00:13:55] [SPEAKER_00]: a blockbuster and Carver.
[00:13:57] [SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
[00:13:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:14:00] [SPEAKER_00]: it kind of amazes me.
[00:14:02] [SPEAKER_00]: No,
[00:14:03] [SPEAKER_00]: it amazes me that that never became like a spirit of Halloween.
[00:14:05] [SPEAKER_00]: That thing's been abandoned since blockbuster.
[00:14:08] [SPEAKER_05]: It's too small.
[00:14:10] [SPEAKER_00]: No,
[00:14:11] [SPEAKER_00]: it was pretty big in there.
[00:14:14] [SPEAKER_05]: Not.
[00:14:14] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't think you remember.
[00:14:16] [SPEAKER_05]: It's not that big.
[00:14:18] [SPEAKER_00]: It's big enough.
[00:14:19] [SPEAKER_00]: I could do something with it.
[00:14:21] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm just amazed.
[00:14:21] [SPEAKER_00]: No,
[00:14:22] [SPEAKER_00]: one's moving.
[00:14:22] [SPEAKER_05]: It's too small for spirit.
[00:14:24] [SPEAKER_05]: I know.
[00:14:24] [SPEAKER_05]: I think someone should have moved in there,
[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_05]: but I think it's too small for spirit.
[00:14:27] [SPEAKER_05]: Halloween.
[00:14:28] [SPEAKER_00]: The rent's probably too high.
[00:14:30] [SPEAKER_00]: And I'll,
[00:14:30] [SPEAKER_05]: I feel like it's probably also cursed.
[00:14:33] [SPEAKER_00]: You can still.
[00:14:34] [SPEAKER_05]: That mail slot is cursed.
[00:14:36] [SPEAKER_05]: The movie slot,
[00:14:37] [SPEAKER_00]: the movie return slot.
[00:14:38] [SPEAKER_00]: It's still there.
[00:14:39] [SPEAKER_05]: And I'm sure there's some beans in there.
[00:14:41] [SPEAKER_00]: The carpets still say,
[00:14:43] [SPEAKER_00]: um,
[00:14:44] [SPEAKER_00]: blockbuster too.
[00:14:45] [SPEAKER_00]: It's,
[00:14:45] [SPEAKER_00]: it's,
[00:14:45] [SPEAKER_00]: it's,
[00:14:45] [SPEAKER_00]: it's such a relic of the time.
[00:14:47] [SPEAKER_05]: That's why they're preserving it for when blockbuster makes its big return.
[00:14:52] [SPEAKER_00]: It's not making a big return.
[00:14:54] [SPEAKER_05]: You'll never know.
[00:14:55] [SPEAKER_00]: There's one left and it's privately owned by someone who bought the name just to keep it going.
[00:15:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh,
[00:15:00] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't,
[00:15:01] [SPEAKER_00]: it's not coming back.
[00:15:02] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh,
[00:15:03] [SPEAKER_05]: maybe a Netflix store.
[00:15:05] [SPEAKER_05]: Remember when Netflix used to not be like what it is now?
[00:15:08] [SPEAKER_05]: Do you remember when you had to be like the,
[00:15:09] [SPEAKER_05]: the rental DVD,
[00:15:11] [SPEAKER_05]: like you'd rent the physical DVD.
[00:15:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:15:13] [SPEAKER_00]: And do you remember when like they,
[00:15:15] [SPEAKER_00]: before Netflix had an app on everything,
[00:15:16] [SPEAKER_00]: you had to buy a disc to get the Netflix on your console.
[00:15:20] [SPEAKER_05]: I didn't know that,
[00:15:21] [SPEAKER_05]: but yeah,
[00:15:23] [SPEAKER_00]: you stuff that there's a,
[00:15:24] [SPEAKER_00]: there's a,
[00:15:24] [SPEAKER_00]: a rare we Netflix disc.
[00:15:27] [SPEAKER_00]: It's useless work.
[00:15:29] [SPEAKER_01]: No,
[00:15:30] [SPEAKER_00]: they're useless now,
[00:15:31] [SPEAKER_00]: but they're rare collectors items these days.
[00:15:34] [SPEAKER_05]: Do you have one?
[00:15:35] No.
[00:15:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause I don't care that much.
[00:15:37] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh,
[00:15:37] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean,
[00:15:38] [SPEAKER_05]: fuck Netflix.
[00:15:40] [SPEAKER_00]: That'd be one of those things.
[00:15:41] [SPEAKER_05]: If I make my own chicken account,
[00:15:43] [SPEAKER_05]: because I can't hop off of bills anymore.
[00:15:45] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm pissed.
[00:15:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Give it a week.
[00:15:47] [SPEAKER_05]: Down the street for me.
[00:15:48] [SPEAKER_05]: Why can't I steal his?
[00:15:50] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't get it.
[00:15:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Give it a week,
[00:15:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Alex.
[00:15:52] [SPEAKER_00]: It might work again at some point because no,
[00:15:54] [SPEAKER_05]: I already made my own account.
[00:15:56] [SPEAKER_05]: So,
[00:15:56] [SPEAKER_05]: but now like the whole Alex,
[00:15:58] [SPEAKER_05]: the parasite,
[00:15:59] [SPEAKER_05]: it's not the same.
[00:16:00] [SPEAKER_05]: And I mean,
[00:16:00] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm still a parasite to your other services,
[00:16:03] [SPEAKER_05]: but yeah,
[00:16:03] [SPEAKER_05]: it all started.
[00:16:05] [SPEAKER_05]: Alex,
[00:16:05] [SPEAKER_05]: the parasite started because of Netflix and Netflix.
[00:16:08] [SPEAKER_05]: Fuck that up.
[00:16:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
[00:16:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Hulu is probably going to be next because Disney is going to crack down on that.
[00:16:14] [SPEAKER_05]: We're not going to manifest that into the world,
[00:16:17] [SPEAKER_05]: Bill.
[00:16:17] [SPEAKER_05]: We're manifesting me being a parasite.
[00:16:21] [SPEAKER_05]: Manifest man.
[00:16:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Alex,
[00:16:24] [SPEAKER_00]: I have a,
[00:16:24] [SPEAKER_00]: I have a Disney plus account.
[00:16:26] [SPEAKER_00]: You know that,
[00:16:26] [SPEAKER_00]: you know what that means,
[00:16:27] [SPEAKER_00]: right?
[00:16:28] [SPEAKER_05]: It means that if you go to Disney world and get hurt,
[00:16:32] [SPEAKER_05]: you're not liable.
[00:16:33] [SPEAKER_05]: They're not liable.
[00:16:35] [SPEAKER_00]: It means if I fucking die on their property,
[00:16:37] [SPEAKER_00]: I can't sue them because I have.
[00:16:40] [SPEAKER_00]: What a fucking evil company.
[00:16:42] [SPEAKER_05]: I know.
[00:16:43] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean,
[00:16:43] [SPEAKER_05]: like the whole fact,
[00:16:44] [SPEAKER_05]: like,
[00:16:45] [SPEAKER_00]: I love how like every time Disney backs down,
[00:16:48] [SPEAKER_00]: it's because the public outrage is so fucking bad.
[00:16:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Do they have to?
[00:16:51] [SPEAKER_04]: Did they back down on that?
[00:16:53] [SPEAKER_00]: They,
[00:16:54] [SPEAKER_00]: they lessened it.
[00:16:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Like,
[00:16:56] [SPEAKER_00]: I think he got something.
[00:16:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
[00:16:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't follow it that long.
[00:17:01] [SPEAKER_04]: That was just so shitty.
[00:17:02] [SPEAKER_04]: But Disney has proven to be a shitty company.
[00:17:05] [SPEAKER_05]: Well,
[00:17:05] [SPEAKER_00]: no,
[00:17:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Disney's one of the most evil companies on the planet.
[00:17:07] [SPEAKER_05]: I want to say,
[00:17:07] [SPEAKER_05]: Disney sucks now because they don't even make anything original.
[00:17:10] [SPEAKER_05]: They just add sequels to stuff that doesn't need a sequel.
[00:17:15] [SPEAKER_00]: And they're ruining Star Wars and Marvel.
[00:17:17] [SPEAKER_00]: It's fine.
[00:17:18] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:17:18] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean,
[00:17:19] [SPEAKER_05]: Marvel kind of died after,
[00:17:21] [SPEAKER_05]: uh,
[00:17:23] [SPEAKER_05]: what's it,
[00:17:23] [SPEAKER_05]: what's it called?
[00:17:24] [SPEAKER_03]: Endgame.
[00:17:25] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:17:25] [SPEAKER_03]: It left such a question.
[00:17:26] [SPEAKER_05]: Endgame.
[00:17:27] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_05]: After,
[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean,
[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_05]: it's been a while.
[00:17:29] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean,
[00:17:30] [SPEAKER_05]: but truthfully,
[00:17:31] [SPEAKER_05]: haven't the movies been that great after Endgame?
[00:17:34] [SPEAKER_05]: Maybe like a couple,
[00:17:35] [SPEAKER_05]: but for the most part,
[00:17:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Spider,
[00:17:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Spider-Man one that had all the Spider-Mans,
[00:17:39] [SPEAKER_00]: but that's technically half Sony.
[00:17:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:17:42] [SPEAKER_00]: I think Guardians three was okay.
[00:17:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe.
[00:17:46] [SPEAKER_00]: I've never seen it.
[00:17:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh no.
[00:17:47] [SPEAKER_00]: There's one good Disney movie.
[00:17:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Deadpool and Wolverine.
[00:17:51] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh,
[00:17:51] [SPEAKER_05]: okay.
[00:17:52] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:17:53] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:17:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Deadpool and Wolverine was good.
[00:17:54] [SPEAKER_05]: But I also feel like that's a little different though,
[00:17:56] [SPEAKER_05]: too.
[00:17:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Well,
[00:17:57] [SPEAKER_00]: no,
[00:17:57] [SPEAKER_00]: that was literally desperation.
[00:17:58] [SPEAKER_00]: They needed something good because everything they were doing was bombing hard.
[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean,
[00:18:04] [SPEAKER_05]: just people aren't interested anymore.
[00:18:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Well,
[00:18:07] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah,
[00:18:07] [SPEAKER_00]: because they've milked.
[00:18:08] [SPEAKER_05]: It's a very serious,
[00:18:09] [SPEAKER_05]: serious,
[00:18:11] [SPEAKER_05]: serious,
[00:18:13] [SPEAKER_05]: serious superhero movie.
[00:18:14] [SPEAKER_05]: Sorry,
[00:18:14] [SPEAKER_05]: I had a stroke,
[00:18:15] [SPEAKER_05]: uh,
[00:18:15] [SPEAKER_05]: which led to a hiccup,
[00:18:17] [SPEAKER_05]: but yeah,
[00:18:18] [SPEAKER_05]: but everything else is just like,
[00:18:20] [SPEAKER_05]: like,
[00:18:20] [SPEAKER_05]: I just think people lost it.
[00:18:22] [SPEAKER_05]: Like,
[00:18:22] [SPEAKER_05]: you know,
[00:18:22] [SPEAKER_05]: we had so many and we were building up to this huge conflict and now it's just like,
[00:18:26] [SPEAKER_05]: all right.
[00:18:28] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:18:28] [SPEAKER_00]: We finished the movie and killed everybody.
[00:18:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:18:32] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean,
[00:18:32] [SPEAKER_05]: they did.
[00:18:33] [SPEAKER_00]: So,
[00:18:34] [SPEAKER_05]: but anyways,
[00:18:34] [SPEAKER_00]: it's like the juice of Kazem.
[00:18:38] [SPEAKER_05]: That's over.
[00:18:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Apparently.
[00:18:41] [SPEAKER_00]: So is every,
[00:18:41] [SPEAKER_00]: all the,
[00:18:42] [SPEAKER_00]: all the modern animes are ending.
[00:18:44] [SPEAKER_00]: It's,
[00:18:45] [SPEAKER_00]: it's kind of weird.
[00:18:47] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean,
[00:18:47] [SPEAKER_05]: the modern manga.
[00:18:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Mangas,
[00:18:49] [SPEAKER_05]: which are leading to get.
[00:18:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Well,
[00:18:51] [SPEAKER_00]: they're gonna though.
[00:18:52] [SPEAKER_00]: They have set end dates.
[00:18:54] [SPEAKER_01]: And one piece is still strong.
[00:18:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Fuck yeah.
[00:19:00] [SPEAKER_00]: No,
[00:19:00] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's Oshinoko is ending in four chapters now,
[00:19:03] [SPEAKER_00]: which is crazy because,
[00:19:07] [SPEAKER_05]: does it feel finished as someone who's reading it?
[00:19:10] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not.
[00:19:11] [SPEAKER_05]: It feel like it's rushed.
[00:19:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Cause he doesn't want to write it anymore.
[00:19:15] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not near the end yet.
[00:19:18] [SPEAKER_00]: But from the synopsis,
[00:19:20] [SPEAKER_00]: as I've read,
[00:19:20] [SPEAKER_00]: a lot of people are worried that it's going to be a rushed ending.
[00:19:23] [SPEAKER_00]: I have a strange suspicion that Aka is just kind of over it at this point.
[00:19:28] [SPEAKER_00]: And he's only really doing it.
[00:19:30] [SPEAKER_00]: I feel like he,
[00:19:31] [SPEAKER_00]: I have no confirmation.
[00:19:32] [SPEAKER_00]: That's my theory is that he's,
[00:19:34] [SPEAKER_00]: he's,
[00:19:34] [SPEAKER_00]: he's kind of done with it,
[00:19:35] [SPEAKER_00]: but he's mostly keeping it going for them for the artist.
[00:19:39] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah,
[00:19:41] [SPEAKER_00]: well,
[00:19:41] [SPEAKER_00]: that's ending pretty soon.
[00:19:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:19:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Jujutsu Kaisen's over ending.
[00:19:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Demon Slayer's over.
[00:19:52] [SPEAKER_00]: My hero's over.
[00:19:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:19:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Black Clover's in its final arc.
[00:19:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Supposedly.
[00:20:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Komi can't communicate.
[00:20:01] [SPEAKER_00]: It's going into its final arc.
[00:20:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Nagatoro is over.
[00:20:06] [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of these are all ending.
[00:20:07] [SPEAKER_00]: It's weird.
[00:20:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:20:10] [SPEAKER_00]: But meanwhile,
[00:20:11] [SPEAKER_00]: One Piece still going.
[00:20:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Dragon Ball kind of still going.
[00:20:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Aruto kind of still going.
[00:20:20] [SPEAKER_04]: Bleach.
[00:20:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Is Bleach still going?
[00:20:22] [SPEAKER_00]: I have no fucking idea.
[00:20:23] [SPEAKER_05]: I think something's back with Bleach.
[00:20:26] [SPEAKER_00]: I know that the anime,
[00:20:28] [SPEAKER_00]: I know the anime is still going.
[00:20:29] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if the manga is still going or not.
[00:20:32] [SPEAKER_05]: Unsure.
[00:20:34] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah.
[00:20:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Anyways,
[00:20:36] [SPEAKER_05]: guys,
[00:20:36] [SPEAKER_05]: thanks for watching the gaming and collecting buckets.
[00:20:40] [SPEAKER_00]: We have a topic for this episode.
[00:20:42] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to just mute her for a few minutes.
[00:20:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:20:48] [SPEAKER_00]: She's flipping me off in the corner there.
[00:20:50] [SPEAKER_00]: That's cute.
[00:20:54] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to talk anymore.
[00:20:56] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to mute myself.
[00:20:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Fuck you.
[00:21:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Well,
[00:21:01] [SPEAKER_00]: anyways,
[00:21:01] [SPEAKER_00]: we do have a topic for this episode.
[00:21:03] [SPEAKER_00]: It is a,
[00:21:04] [SPEAKER_00]: we're kind of going old school with some of our older episodes for this
[00:21:07] [SPEAKER_00]: one,
[00:21:07] [SPEAKER_00]: because it's actually something that I don't think we've talked about
[00:21:10] [SPEAKER_00]: some of the things in this episode that we're going to be talking about
[00:21:13] [SPEAKER_00]: separately,
[00:21:14] [SPEAKER_00]: but never as like an entire episode concept.
[00:21:19] [SPEAKER_00]: For this episode,
[00:21:20] [SPEAKER_00]: we're actually going to be talking about failed video game consoles or
[00:21:23] [SPEAKER_00]: systems,
[00:21:24] [SPEAKER_00]: I should say.
[00:21:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Because we live in,
[00:21:28] [SPEAKER_00]: we live in a world.
[00:21:30] [SPEAKER_02]: Will you stop doing that?
[00:21:36] [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
[00:21:36] [SPEAKER_02]: I guess she's.
[00:21:39] [SPEAKER_00]: I can't unmute you because you muted yourself.
[00:21:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Anyways.
[00:21:47] [SPEAKER_00]: So yeah,
[00:21:48] [SPEAKER_00]: we're going to be talking about some failed video game consoles.
[00:21:50] [SPEAKER_00]: We've covered a bunch of them in the past on like different separate
[00:21:54] [SPEAKER_00]: episodes.
[00:21:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Like the fuck you doing over there?
[00:22:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh God.
[00:22:04] [SPEAKER_00]: She's ascending.
[00:22:05] [SPEAKER_00]: She's,
[00:22:06] [SPEAKER_00]: she's descending.
[00:22:12] [SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[00:22:13] [SPEAKER_00]: I know.
[00:22:17] [SPEAKER_00]: This is what I have to put up with.
[00:22:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[00:22:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Can you like not?
[00:22:38] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah,
[00:22:39] [SPEAKER_00]: so we've fit.
[00:22:40] [SPEAKER_00]: It's amazing in like all the years of like video game systems.
[00:22:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Obviously there's been a lot more than people really realize.
[00:22:48] [SPEAKER_00]: And we don't,
[00:22:49] [SPEAKER_00]: it's not as common these days,
[00:22:51] [SPEAKER_00]: obviously just because the market has kind of condensed into like a big
[00:22:57] [SPEAKER_00]: three,
[00:22:57] [SPEAKER_00]: but overall there has been a ton of failed systems.
[00:23:01] [SPEAKER_00]: And honestly,
[00:23:02] [SPEAKER_00]: they actually,
[00:23:02] [SPEAKER_00]: we've had them up until recently.
[00:23:05] [SPEAKER_00]: There's been a few,
[00:23:07] [SPEAKER_00]: but nothing super major,
[00:23:09] [SPEAKER_00]: but we,
[00:23:10] [SPEAKER_00]: I thought it'd be fun if we went over kind of some of like the major ones
[00:23:15] [SPEAKER_00]: because there's been so many video game consoles just overall over the
[00:23:21] [SPEAKER_00]: years.
[00:23:23] [SPEAKER_00]: So when it comes to a console,
[00:23:28] [SPEAKER_00]: like failure,
[00:23:29] [SPEAKER_00]: it's kind of a bit of a matter of opinion on whether you consider something a
[00:23:35] [SPEAKER_00]: failure or not.
[00:23:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Like an obvious failure would be one.
[00:23:40] Yeah.
[00:23:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
[00:23:43] [SPEAKER_00]: An obvious failure of a system is actually one of Alex's favorite systems.
[00:23:48] [SPEAKER_00]: The Atari Jaguar is like,
[00:23:50] [SPEAKER_00]: you take that fucking Alex.
[00:23:53] [SPEAKER_00]: It sold less than the three DO.
[00:23:55] [SPEAKER_00]: It was a failure.
[00:23:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[00:23:57] [SPEAKER_00]: No,
[00:23:57] [SPEAKER_05]: it was a success.
[00:23:59] [SPEAKER_00]: It was not.
[00:24:01] [SPEAKER_05]: They put $2 into it.
[00:24:03] [SPEAKER_05]: They made their money back.
[00:24:04] [SPEAKER_05]: It was a success.
[00:24:07] [SPEAKER_05]: You take those words out of your mouth for reference.
[00:24:11] [SPEAKER_00]: The,
[00:24:11] [SPEAKER_00]: the,
[00:24:11] [SPEAKER_00]: the Jaguar sold less than 200,000.
[00:24:17] [SPEAKER_05]: That's Jaguar slander.
[00:24:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Slander.
[00:24:20] [SPEAKER_00]: No,
[00:24:20] [SPEAKER_00]: it's,
[00:24:20] [SPEAKER_00]: it's the truth,
[00:24:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Alex.
[00:24:21] [SPEAKER_05]: No,
[00:24:22] [SPEAKER_05]: this is slander.
[00:24:23] [SPEAKER_05]: You are slandering.
[00:24:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Those numbers have been gouged.
[00:24:27] [SPEAKER_05]: Those aren't real.
[00:24:28] [SPEAKER_05]: It's sold 2 million copies.
[00:24:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Alex,
[00:24:32] [SPEAKER_00]: I like the Jaguar.
[00:24:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Like,
[00:24:34] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a cool system.
[00:24:36] [SPEAKER_05]: Stop saying slander.
[00:24:38] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm telling you the truth.
[00:24:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Alex,
[00:24:40] [SPEAKER_00]: it's sold less than the 32 X.
[00:24:43] [SPEAKER_00]: It's sold less than the 32 X.
[00:24:46] [SPEAKER_02]: Lies.
[00:24:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Lies.
[00:24:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's,
[00:24:48] [SPEAKER_00]: let's just preface this.
[00:24:50] [SPEAKER_00]: And the 32 X is also a failure.
[00:24:53] [SPEAKER_00]: The 32 X is quite possibly one of the most fascinating failures because.
[00:24:57] [SPEAKER_05]: Talk about an actual failure,
[00:24:59] [SPEAKER_05]: not the Jaguar.
[00:25:01] [SPEAKER_05]: We're not calling that a failure.
[00:25:03] [SPEAKER_00]: It was a failure.
[00:25:04] [SPEAKER_05]: No,
[00:25:05] [SPEAKER_05]: you have to accept that.
[00:25:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to mute you.
[00:25:08] [SPEAKER_01]: I want to mute you.
[00:25:09] [SPEAKER_00]: You can't.
[00:25:11] [SPEAKER_00]: God damn it.
[00:25:12] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah,
[00:25:13] [SPEAKER_00]: like the 32 X in particular,
[00:25:14] [SPEAKER_00]: like was one of the weirdest,
[00:25:16] [SPEAKER_00]: like.
[00:25:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Console.
[00:25:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Things ever.
[00:25:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause it was an add on for the Genesis.
[00:25:22] [SPEAKER_00]: And.
[00:25:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Essentially the Jaguar.
[00:25:25] [SPEAKER_00]: The 32 X was the result of.
[00:25:28] [SPEAKER_05]: When a mom.
[00:25:31] [SPEAKER_00]: I can have you looked at the damn thing.
[00:25:33] [SPEAKER_00]: It was.
[00:25:34] [SPEAKER_00]: There was ads for the 32 X that were like literally an image of a small child
[00:25:38] [SPEAKER_00]: looking up,
[00:25:39] [SPEAKER_00]: confused and going,
[00:25:39] [SPEAKER_00]: mommy,
[00:25:40] [SPEAKER_00]: what are those two consoles doing?
[00:25:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:25:43] [SPEAKER_00]: That was a real ad.
[00:25:45] [SPEAKER_00]: It was a real fucking ad for the,
[00:25:47] [SPEAKER_00]: the damn thing.
[00:25:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause the 32 X,
[00:25:49] [SPEAKER_00]: everyone knows it was the add on for the Genesis.
[00:25:50] [SPEAKER_05]: I get that.
[00:25:51] [SPEAKER_05]: That's a failure.
[00:25:52] [SPEAKER_05]: And you know why it also was a failure.
[00:25:54] [SPEAKER_05]: It didn't look like a turlet.
[00:25:56] [SPEAKER_00]: No,
[00:25:57] [SPEAKER_00]: it looked like a fucking mushroom shaped tumor sticking out of the top of your
[00:26:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Genesis.
[00:26:01] [SPEAKER_05]: It looks like a turlet.
[00:26:02] [SPEAKER_05]: What a sold better.
[00:26:03] [SPEAKER_05]: Just saying.
[00:26:04] [SPEAKER_05]: It did sell better.
[00:26:06] [SPEAKER_00]: It did sell better.
[00:26:08] That's the,
[00:26:09] [SPEAKER_00]: that's the point I'm trying to make here.
[00:26:15] [SPEAKER_00]: You did not even think about that when you said it.
[00:26:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:26:25] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:26:26] [SPEAKER_05]: But just imagine if it was turlet cheap.
[00:26:28] [SPEAKER_00]: But I mean,
[00:26:29] [SPEAKER_00]: talking about a console that I love the 3DO,
[00:26:32] [SPEAKER_00]: that was a failure.
[00:26:34] [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of people do apparently from what I've seen recently.
[00:26:40] [SPEAKER_05]: No one likes the 3DO who,
[00:26:43] [SPEAKER_05]: you know,
[00:26:43] [SPEAKER_05]: it sounds like a dumb idea.
[00:26:46] [SPEAKER_05]: A 3DO.
[00:26:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Anyways,
[00:26:51] [SPEAKER_00]: like the 3DO.
[00:26:52] [SPEAKER_05]: You,
[00:26:52] [SPEAKER_05]: you started with Jaguar slander.
[00:26:54] [SPEAKER_05]: So now I get to slander your 3DO.
[00:26:56] [SPEAKER_00]: I make using the Jaguar.
[00:26:58] [SPEAKER_05]: That was an example.
[00:26:59] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm still squeezing the stress ball.
[00:27:01] [SPEAKER_05]: I promise.
[00:27:02] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm using the Jaguar as an example of even.
[00:27:04] [SPEAKER_05]: To hurt my feelings.
[00:27:06] [SPEAKER_00]: No,
[00:27:06] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm using it as an example of the fact that even a console that has potential and actually
[00:27:10] [SPEAKER_00]: might be pretty decent in hindsight,
[00:27:13] [SPEAKER_00]: can be considered a failure in the sense that it,
[00:27:16] [SPEAKER_00]: it failed to make any sort of impact on the market.
[00:27:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Like the 3DO was at the time of its release,
[00:27:25] [SPEAKER_00]: one of the most hyped products of all time.
[00:27:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Like Time Magazine called it product of the year.
[00:27:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Um,
[00:27:31] [SPEAKER_00]: but because of its inherent,
[00:27:34] [SPEAKER_00]: the inherent concept of 3DO as a system was its downfall because it was literally the only,
[00:27:40] [SPEAKER_00]: because of the whole,
[00:27:41] [SPEAKER_00]: like,
[00:27:43] [SPEAKER_00]: basically they were going for the VHS,
[00:27:45] [SPEAKER_00]: like media,
[00:27:46] [SPEAKER_00]: like DVD,
[00:27:46] [SPEAKER_00]: like media based idea where the concept of the system would be licensed out to different,
[00:27:53] [SPEAKER_00]: um,
[00:27:54] [SPEAKER_00]: manufacturers.
[00:27:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:27:56] [SPEAKER_00]: And then,
[00:27:56] [SPEAKER_00]: but unfortunately for the manufacturers,
[00:27:58] [SPEAKER_00]: the only way they were going to make money was by selling it at what it was worth,
[00:28:02] [SPEAKER_00]: which is like the opposite of what most game companies do.
[00:28:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause most game companies will sell their systems at a loss in the hopes that they'll make their money back with the games.
[00:28:10] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like the razor and blade.
[00:28:11] [SPEAKER_00]: It's the razor and blade mentality.
[00:28:14] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:28:15] [SPEAKER_05]: unfortunately the consoles are so expensive nowadays.
[00:28:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah.
[00:28:19] [SPEAKER_00]: The PlayStation five pro is going to be fucking $800.
[00:28:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my God.
[00:28:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:28:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:28:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Literally everybody in the industry laughed in Sony's face and said,
[00:28:30] [SPEAKER_00]: you're fucking insane.
[00:28:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Like it was like,
[00:28:33] [SPEAKER_04]: not with the PlayStation switch equivalent.
[00:28:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:28:38] [SPEAKER_00]: That's been out for like a year.
[00:28:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[00:28:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Go to the store.
[00:28:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Probably.
[00:28:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Or look on Amazon.
[00:28:47] [SPEAKER_04]: Anyway,
[00:28:48] [SPEAKER_00]: but yeah,
[00:28:49] [SPEAKER_00]: the PS five,
[00:28:50] [SPEAKER_00]: like Sony literally had like one of the worst months in a long time where like they released
[00:28:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Concord came out and it was over before I even realized it was a thing.
[00:28:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Like that's how bad of a fail it was.
[00:29:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Then they released Astro bot,
[00:29:02] [SPEAKER_00]: which is like one of the most critically acclaimed platformers in a long time.
[00:29:07] [SPEAKER_00]: And then they,
[00:29:07] [SPEAKER_00]: then they announced the PS five pro.
[00:29:09] [SPEAKER_00]: They literally went from,
[00:29:10] [SPEAKER_00]: as we said on,
[00:29:11] [SPEAKER_00]: we've talked in the,
[00:29:12] [SPEAKER_00]: with the,
[00:29:13] [SPEAKER_00]: some of our,
[00:29:13] [SPEAKER_00]: our friends in the network,
[00:29:14] [SPEAKER_00]: they literally went from we're so fucked to we're so back to we're so fucked.
[00:29:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:29:21] [SPEAKER_00]: In the course of like two weeks.
[00:29:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Like it was,
[00:29:24] [SPEAKER_00]: it was hilarious to watch.
[00:29:26] [SPEAKER_00]: That being said,
[00:29:27] [SPEAKER_00]: we're,
[00:29:27] [SPEAKER_00]: we're talking puzzles that did come out and failed.
[00:29:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Not one that's going to fail.
[00:29:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Most likely.
[00:29:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause I ain't buying a PS five pro.
[00:29:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Fuck that shit.
[00:29:35] [SPEAKER_00]: I barely,
[00:29:37] [SPEAKER_00]: I barely use my PS five as it is at this,
[00:29:40] [SPEAKER_00]: at the point to play PS five games.
[00:29:42] [SPEAKER_00]: I should say.
[00:29:43] [SPEAKER_05]: It mostly plays PS four.
[00:29:44] [SPEAKER_00]: It mostly plays PS four downloaded games,
[00:29:46] [SPEAKER_00]: but going back to the three deal,
[00:29:48] [SPEAKER_00]: like the three deal was an interesting idea that unfortunately was never going to work.
[00:29:54] [SPEAKER_00]: But even at that rate,
[00:29:55] [SPEAKER_00]: it's still sold to around estimate an estimated 2 million units.
[00:30:00] [SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of hard to get the numbers with three deal because of all the different variations.
[00:30:03] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's kind of confusing,
[00:30:05] [SPEAKER_00]: but 2 million is a lot for a system that's considered a failure.
[00:30:12] [SPEAKER_05]: Just like the Jaguar 2 million.
[00:30:16] [SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguar.
[00:30:17] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry,
[00:30:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Alex.
[00:30:19] [SPEAKER_00]: No,
[00:30:20] [SPEAKER_01]: let me live in my lava land.
[00:30:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[00:30:23] [SPEAKER_00]: So if you want to talk now about a more obscure system,
[00:30:26] [SPEAKER_00]: that's even more of a failure in a lot of ways.
[00:30:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Apple,
[00:30:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Alex,
[00:30:31] [SPEAKER_00]: you know,
[00:30:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Apple,
[00:30:32] [SPEAKER_00]: they,
[00:30:33] [SPEAKER_00]: you know how everyone always says like,
[00:30:34] [SPEAKER_00]: why doesn't Apple make a video game console?
[00:30:36] [SPEAKER_05]: They did.
[00:30:37] [SPEAKER_05]: And they failed.
[00:30:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah,
[00:30:38] [SPEAKER_00]: they did.
[00:30:39] [SPEAKER_00]: And it was awful.
[00:30:39] [SPEAKER_00]: It was called the Pippin.
[00:30:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh,
[00:30:41] [SPEAKER_05]: I heard about this.
[00:30:42] [SPEAKER_00]: The Pippin,
[00:30:43] [SPEAKER_00]: the Pippin is an interesting one to me because it's one of those systems that exists,
[00:30:48] [SPEAKER_00]: but I know like nothing about it because it literally,
[00:30:52] [SPEAKER_00]: it was made in 95 and was dead by 97.
[00:30:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
[00:30:58] [SPEAKER_05]: It was,
[00:30:59] [SPEAKER_05]: but it was alive when both of us were born.
[00:31:03] [SPEAKER_00]: It was.
[00:31:04] [SPEAKER_00]: And well,
[00:31:05] [SPEAKER_00]: actually,
[00:31:05] [SPEAKER_05]: maybe not you.
[00:31:06] [SPEAKER_05]: Depends when it came out.
[00:31:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Alex,
[00:31:08] [SPEAKER_00]: I was born at the start of 95.
[00:31:11] [SPEAKER_00]: It was most likely around unless it was like January 1st.
[00:31:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Just saying.
[00:31:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Like,
[00:31:22] [SPEAKER_00]: but anyways,
[00:31:22] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah,
[00:31:22] [SPEAKER_00]: the Pippin is actually,
[00:31:24] [SPEAKER_00]: okay,
[00:31:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Alex,
[00:31:25] [SPEAKER_00]: here's a system that the Jaguar did sell more than because the Pippin only sold 42,000.
[00:31:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Like that's abysmal for console.
[00:31:34] [SPEAKER_05]: I think you're mixing up the Jaguar in the 3DO.
[00:31:37] [SPEAKER_05]: I think you have 3DO.
[00:31:38] [SPEAKER_05]: Alex,
[00:31:39] [SPEAKER_00]: the Jaguar sold like shit.
[00:31:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Get over it.
[00:31:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:31:44] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah,
[00:31:44] [SPEAKER_00]: but the Pippin was essentially,
[00:31:46] [SPEAKER_00]: it was essentially an Apple PC from that point in time.
[00:31:49] [SPEAKER_00]: It was 32 bit.
[00:31:50] [SPEAKER_00]: It was decently impressive for the time.
[00:31:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Graphically.
[00:31:53] [SPEAKER_00]: The thing was though,
[00:31:55] [SPEAKER_00]: it was fucking 600 bucks.
[00:31:59] [SPEAKER_00]: That's equivalent to almost like the PlayStation.
[00:32:03] [SPEAKER_05]: Jesus.
[00:32:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Well,
[00:32:04] [SPEAKER_05]: for the current console prices.
[00:32:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah,
[00:32:07] [SPEAKER_00]: it is.
[00:32:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:32:10] [SPEAKER_00]: and by today's money,
[00:32:11] [SPEAKER_00]: it would be 1200.
[00:32:12] [SPEAKER_00]: It was cheaper than the 3DO.
[00:32:14] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh my.
[00:32:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Give it that.
[00:32:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:32:16] [SPEAKER_00]: not by much.
[00:32:17] [SPEAKER_05]: Um,
[00:32:18] [SPEAKER_05]: the Jaguar.
[00:32:20] [SPEAKER_00]: No,
[00:32:21] [SPEAKER_00]: it's the Jaguar was cheaper than that.
[00:32:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:32:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Jaguar is better.
[00:32:25] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah,
[00:32:26] [SPEAKER_00]: the Pippin was,
[00:32:27] [SPEAKER_00]: it,
[00:32:27] [SPEAKER_00]: it really didn't have any games worth playing that I can think of.
[00:32:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe marathon.
[00:32:33] [SPEAKER_00]: That's like the only game I'd really be interested in.
[00:32:36] [SPEAKER_00]: I think that's getting a remaster pretty soon.
[00:32:38] [SPEAKER_00]: So there's not even a reason to buy it for that.
[00:32:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:32:41] [SPEAKER_00]: so here's,
[00:32:42] [SPEAKER_00]: this is a fun fact.
[00:32:43] [SPEAKER_00]: The Pippin came out during the point in time where Steve jobs was not at
[00:32:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Apple.
[00:32:48] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh,
[00:32:49] [SPEAKER_00]: where he,
[00:32:49] [SPEAKER_00]: cause he had been fired from the company for a while.
[00:32:52] [SPEAKER_04]: Yep.
[00:32:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Steve jobs infamously did not like video games that much.
[00:32:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:32:56] [SPEAKER_00]: he actually,
[00:32:57] [SPEAKER_00]: the first thing he did when he got hired back and basically retook,
[00:33:00] [SPEAKER_00]: took over the company was he killed the Pippin cause he hated it.
[00:33:04] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:33:05] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean,
[00:33:05] [SPEAKER_05]: it wasn't doing well either.
[00:33:07] [SPEAKER_05]: So no,
[00:33:07] [SPEAKER_00]: it was a money pit for Apple.
[00:33:09] [SPEAKER_00]: And you got to keep in mind too,
[00:33:10] [SPEAKER_00]: this was,
[00:33:10] [SPEAKER_00]: this was before Apple was the quote unquote hip and cool company that
[00:33:14] [SPEAKER_00]: people know these days.
[00:33:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:33:15] [SPEAKER_00]: at the time,
[00:33:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Apple was just that weird computer company that didn't do anything.
[00:33:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:33:20] [SPEAKER_05]: It has like funky designs.
[00:33:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:33:23] [SPEAKER_00]: And like,
[00:33:24] [SPEAKER_00]: if you ever look at the ads for the Pippin,
[00:33:25] [SPEAKER_00]: like it was the most boring,
[00:33:27] [SPEAKER_00]: like sterile commercials ever.
[00:33:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Like I,
[00:33:31] [SPEAKER_00]: anytime I've seen like Apple,
[00:33:32] [SPEAKER_00]: like talking about it,
[00:33:34] [SPEAKER_00]: it just,
[00:33:34] [SPEAKER_00]: it looks super,
[00:33:36] [SPEAKER_00]: super boring.
[00:33:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:33:38] [SPEAKER_00]: but yeah,
[00:33:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Steve jobs killed it.
[00:33:39] [SPEAKER_00]: The second he came back and the Pippin is one of the most.
[00:33:42] [SPEAKER_04]: Infamous dream cast.
[00:33:44] [SPEAKER_00]: It kind of does.
[00:33:46] [SPEAKER_00]: It has an interesting controller because the controller has a track ball.
[00:33:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Apparently it was very well made too.
[00:33:51] [SPEAKER_00]: It just was,
[00:33:51] [SPEAKER_00]: it just had nothing worth playing on it.
[00:33:54] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:33:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:33:55] [SPEAKER_04]: giving me,
[00:33:56] [SPEAKER_04]: yeah,
[00:33:56] [SPEAKER_04]: it's really given a speaking,
[00:33:58] [SPEAKER_00]: speaking of dream cast though,
[00:34:00] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to talk about a console.
[00:34:02] [SPEAKER_00]: I adore,
[00:34:02] [SPEAKER_00]: but the dream cast is a failure inherently.
[00:34:06] [SPEAKER_05]: True.
[00:34:07] [SPEAKER_00]: The dream cast.
[00:34:08] [SPEAKER_05]: And the dream cast was also one of your first like.
[00:34:11] [SPEAKER_00]: The dream cast.
[00:34:12] [SPEAKER_00]: The dream cast is the reason I'm a collector.
[00:34:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:34:16] [SPEAKER_00]: that being said,
[00:34:17] [SPEAKER_00]: like the dream cast.
[00:34:19] [SPEAKER_00]: So no,
[00:34:21] [SPEAKER_00]: the,
[00:34:21] [SPEAKER_00]: the dream cast is literally the,
[00:34:24] [SPEAKER_00]: the,
[00:34:25] [SPEAKER_00]: the one failed console that everybody wishes didn't fail.
[00:34:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Like it is like the most beloved flop in probably video game history.
[00:34:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:34:33] [SPEAKER_00]: that being said,
[00:34:34] [SPEAKER_00]: it sold 9.13.
[00:34:37] [SPEAKER_05]: Um,
[00:34:38] [SPEAKER_05]: excuse me.
[00:34:38] [SPEAKER_05]: I think you have the wrong console,
[00:34:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Alex.
[00:34:41] [SPEAKER_00]: not every,
[00:34:42] [SPEAKER_00]: this joke,
[00:34:43] [SPEAKER_00]: you're running this joke into the ground now,
[00:34:45] [SPEAKER_00]: and it's not funny anymore.
[00:34:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:34:51] [SPEAKER_00]: that being said,
[00:34:53] [SPEAKER_00]: the dream cast sold 9.13 million.
[00:34:55] [SPEAKER_00]: So compared to some of the consoles we've talked about,
[00:34:58] [SPEAKER_00]: that's not the worst number,
[00:35:00] [SPEAKER_00]: but you also got to remember too,
[00:35:02] [SPEAKER_00]: it came out during the generation where the PlayStation 2 fucking murdered everything.
[00:35:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah,
[00:35:06] [SPEAKER_05]: it took over.
[00:35:08] [SPEAKER_05]: But this console didn't kill any future,
[00:35:12] [SPEAKER_05]: uh,
[00:35:12] [SPEAKER_05]: dream,
[00:35:13] [SPEAKER_05]: uh,
[00:35:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Sega consoles.
[00:35:14] [SPEAKER_05]: This was the last one.
[00:35:15] [SPEAKER_00]: The console itself didn't kill future Sega consoles.
[00:35:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Sega themselves killed any future Sega consoles.
[00:35:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause Sega was just such a dumpster fire of a company at the time.
[00:35:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Like the dream cast was literally their last hurrah.
[00:35:29] [SPEAKER_00]: And it was a great last hurrah.
[00:35:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Like it was like the die.
[00:35:33] [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of people refer to it as Sega's dying moment of awesome as a console manufacturer.
[00:35:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause Sega is a very healthy company these days.
[00:35:39] [SPEAKER_02]: Hmm.
[00:35:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:35:40] [SPEAKER_00]: they're actually one of the healthiest companies,
[00:35:42] [SPEAKER_00]: gaming companies out there at the moment.
[00:35:44] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
[00:35:44] [SPEAKER_00]: cause they're fucking carried by Atlas and Yakuza right now,
[00:35:47] [SPEAKER_00]: but,
[00:35:48] [SPEAKER_04]: and Sonic.
[00:35:49] [SPEAKER_00]: No,
[00:35:49] [SPEAKER_00]: they're not carried by Sonic.
[00:35:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's,
[00:35:51] [SPEAKER_00]: let's be real.
[00:35:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Sonic is like,
[00:35:52] [SPEAKER_00]: but they got the movies.
[00:35:54] [SPEAKER_05]: They got the movies.
[00:35:56] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think Sega makes all the money from those.
[00:35:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's be real.
[00:35:59] [SPEAKER_05]: They make some,
[00:36:00] [SPEAKER_00]: they make some,
[00:36:01] [SPEAKER_00]: but it compared to what they're making up Yakuza and like Atlas stuff.
[00:36:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Like right now.
[00:36:06] [SPEAKER_04]: You're right.
[00:36:07] [SPEAKER_00]: And let's face it,
[00:36:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Sonic games.
[00:36:09] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like 50,
[00:36:09] [SPEAKER_00]: 50,
[00:36:10] [SPEAKER_00]: whether they're going to be good or not half the time.
[00:36:12] [SPEAKER_01]: So true.
[00:36:14] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah,
[00:36:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Sega is doing very well these days,
[00:36:16] [SPEAKER_00]: but at the time they were not like they were very in the red and they,
[00:36:19] [SPEAKER_00]: it wasn't the dreamcast was a dying moment of awesome.
[00:36:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Like they,
[00:36:22] [SPEAKER_00]: they did so much right with the dreamcast,
[00:36:24] [SPEAKER_00]: but let's face it.
[00:36:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Fred Durst couldn't save it.
[00:36:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:36:30] [SPEAKER_00]: the,
[00:36:30] [SPEAKER_00]: the,
[00:36:30] [SPEAKER_00]: the real sign that the dreamcast was doomed was like during the holiday,
[00:36:35] [SPEAKER_00]: like rush,
[00:36:36] [SPEAKER_00]: like of that year,
[00:36:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Sony actually had a chip shortage and they couldn't get enough PS2s out for the holiday season.
[00:36:44] [SPEAKER_00]: And it was a great opportunity for Sega to like,
[00:36:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Hey,
[00:36:47] [SPEAKER_00]: you know,
[00:36:48] [SPEAKER_04]: maybe like jump in the market.
[00:36:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:36:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe get a few consoles out.
[00:36:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause they were the only two consoles out at the time.
[00:36:54] [SPEAKER_00]: People would rather wait.
[00:36:55] [SPEAKER_00]: People like basically decided,
[00:36:58] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah,
[00:36:58] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah,
[00:36:58] [SPEAKER_00]: we'll just wait until we can get a PS2.
[00:37:00] [SPEAKER_00]: We're not going to buy a dreamcast.
[00:37:01] [SPEAKER_00]: It was really sad,
[00:37:04] [SPEAKER_01]: but even sad,
[00:37:06] [SPEAKER_00]: even sadder.
[00:37:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:37:09] [SPEAKER_00]: there was a point where Sega was like,
[00:37:12] [SPEAKER_00]: they were at desperation levels of the point where that they were like,
[00:37:14] [SPEAKER_00]: if you sign up for our internet online,
[00:37:16] [SPEAKER_00]: like service,
[00:37:18] [SPEAKER_00]: we'll give you a dreamcast for free.
[00:37:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Like,
[00:37:22] [SPEAKER_00]: people still said,
[00:37:23] [SPEAKER_00]: no,
[00:37:24] [SPEAKER_00]: they weren't interested.
[00:37:26] [SPEAKER_05]: I do feel like when you're saying like,
[00:37:28] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh,
[00:37:28] [SPEAKER_05]: you're going to sign up for our service.
[00:37:30] [SPEAKER_05]: Like people like,
[00:37:31] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know if I want to make that commitment.
[00:37:33] [SPEAKER_05]: It's not the best.
[00:37:34] [SPEAKER_00]: It was a lot cheaper than buying a dreamcast at the time.
[00:37:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:37:40] [SPEAKER_00]: but yeah,
[00:37:41] [SPEAKER_00]: it just tells you that much.
[00:37:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Like,
[00:37:43] [SPEAKER_00]: hell,
[00:37:43] [SPEAKER_00]: you didn't even have to stick with the service.
[00:37:45] [SPEAKER_00]: You could have like,
[00:37:45] [SPEAKER_00]: just tried the trial.
[00:37:46] [SPEAKER_00]: I'd probably got a free dreamcast.
[00:37:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Like they just,
[00:37:50] [SPEAKER_00]: it was,
[00:37:50] [SPEAKER_00]: it was bad.
[00:37:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Like the,
[00:37:51] [SPEAKER_00]: the dreamcast in hindsight is one of the greatest consoles ever made,
[00:37:56] [SPEAKER_00]: depending on who you ask.
[00:37:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:37:59] [SPEAKER_00]: but that being said,
[00:38:01] [SPEAKER_00]: you could also say its predecessor,
[00:38:03] [SPEAKER_00]: the Saturn was a failed console in a lot of ways.
[00:38:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause the Saturn was just kind of a system that the company itself gave up on,
[00:38:12] [SPEAKER_00]: but the Saturn itself.
[00:38:14] [SPEAKER_00]: I can't say was also,
[00:38:16] [SPEAKER_00]: was,
[00:38:16] [SPEAKER_00]: was a failure in the same way,
[00:38:17] [SPEAKER_00]: because it was successful in Japan.
[00:38:19] [SPEAKER_00]: The dreamcast was not successful in Japan.
[00:38:21] [SPEAKER_05]: No,
[00:38:22] [SPEAKER_05]: it flip flopped.
[00:38:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Except it did have a really terrible controller.
[00:38:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:38:27] [SPEAKER_00]: The dreamcast controller is,
[00:38:29] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh,
[00:38:29] [SPEAKER_05]: I wasn't talking about the dreamcast.
[00:38:31] [SPEAKER_05]: I was talking about the Saturn.
[00:38:32] [SPEAKER_05]: It's a big old circle.
[00:38:35] [SPEAKER_05]: Dreamcast is a little better.
[00:38:36] [SPEAKER_00]: What are you talking about?
[00:38:37] [SPEAKER_00]: The 3d controller?
[00:38:39] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh,
[00:38:39] [SPEAKER_05]: is that not the main,
[00:38:40] [SPEAKER_05]: I just typed in dreamcast,
[00:38:42] [SPEAKER_05]: uh,
[00:38:42] [SPEAKER_05]: Saturn,
[00:38:43] [SPEAKER_05]: and this popped up.
[00:38:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:38:46] [SPEAKER_00]: I think you might be thinking of the 3d controller and the 3d controller is actually better than the dreamcast controller.
[00:38:51] [SPEAKER_05]: Really?
[00:38:51] [SPEAKER_05]: It looks like it feels painful.
[00:38:54] [SPEAKER_05]: No,
[00:38:55] [SPEAKER_00]: no,
[00:38:55] [SPEAKER_00]: it's,
[00:38:55] [SPEAKER_00]: it's better.
[00:38:56] [SPEAKER_00]: But even then the,
[00:38:57] [SPEAKER_00]: the Saturn's like default controller,
[00:38:59] [SPEAKER_00]: like the two,
[00:38:59] [SPEAKER_00]: um,
[00:39:00] [SPEAKER_00]: but the,
[00:39:01] [SPEAKER_00]: the one that you,
[00:39:02] [SPEAKER_00]: the one that you got me in Japan.
[00:39:04] [SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
[00:39:04] [SPEAKER_00]: That controller is significantly better than the dreamcast controller.
[00:39:10] [SPEAKER_00]: But going to actual,
[00:39:12] [SPEAKER_00]: like real failures now,
[00:39:14] [SPEAKER_00]: like another one that I kind of want to talk about it.
[00:39:16] [SPEAKER_00]: This is a more recent console.
[00:39:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Recent by like 2007.
[00:39:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:39:21] [SPEAKER_00]: do you remember the hyperscan?
[00:39:24] [SPEAKER_05]: No.
[00:39:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
[00:39:27] [SPEAKER_00]: The hyperscan is quite possible.
[00:39:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh,
[00:39:31] [SPEAKER_05]: I have,
[00:39:32] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't remember this,
[00:39:34] [SPEAKER_05]: but I've seen this before.
[00:39:36] [SPEAKER_00]: This was a system that like,
[00:39:39] [SPEAKER_00]: I remember the commercials for it.
[00:39:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause they,
[00:39:42] [SPEAKER_00]: cause Mattel made this.
[00:39:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:39:44] [SPEAKER_00]: this was Mattel's second console actually,
[00:39:46] [SPEAKER_00]: believe it or not after the Intellivision.
[00:39:48] [SPEAKER_05]: And did they ever do another one after this?
[00:39:50] [SPEAKER_00]: No.
[00:39:51] [SPEAKER_05]: Please say yes.
[00:39:52] [SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
[00:39:52] [SPEAKER_00]: No.
[00:39:52] [SPEAKER_00]: The,
[00:39:53] [SPEAKER_00]: the hyperscan,
[00:39:55] [SPEAKER_00]: they,
[00:39:56] [SPEAKER_00]: they marketed the fuck out of the hyperscan because the hyperscan inherently,
[00:40:00] [SPEAKER_00]: is sounds interesting at first because it is a video game console that uses trading cards.
[00:40:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause they were trying to jump into the trading card market at the time.
[00:40:09] [SPEAKER_00]: And the whole gimmick was you'd scan the card on the hyperscan and you'd get little bonuses in the games.
[00:40:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:40:15] [SPEAKER_00]: The trailers made it look kind of cool,
[00:40:18] [SPEAKER_00]: not cool enough to buy,
[00:40:19] [SPEAKER_00]: but it was intriguing.
[00:40:21] [SPEAKER_00]: And then you actually play one in reality and it's slow as fuck.
[00:40:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Barely functions.
[00:40:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Did you ever play one?
[00:40:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:40:29] [SPEAKER_00]: I played a demo kiosk cause they occasionally you'd find a demo kiosk of one of these things.
[00:40:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Actually,
[00:40:33] [SPEAKER_00]: I think I played it at a convention once.
[00:40:35] [SPEAKER_00]: They had one set up.
[00:40:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Really?
[00:40:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:40:38] [SPEAKER_00]: And it was awful.
[00:40:38] [SPEAKER_00]: It was bad.
[00:40:41] [SPEAKER_00]: I actually,
[00:40:42] [SPEAKER_00]: I know I vividly remember the hyperscan too,
[00:40:44] [SPEAKER_00]: because I remember around the time the commercials were playing,
[00:40:46] [SPEAKER_00]: I think mom asked me,
[00:40:47] [SPEAKER_00]: she's like,
[00:40:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Ooh,
[00:40:48] [SPEAKER_00]: would you like one of those?
[00:40:49] [SPEAKER_00]: And I looked at her and went,
[00:40:51] [SPEAKER_00]: I was like,
[00:40:52] [SPEAKER_00]: no,
[00:40:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I'd rather not.
[00:40:55] [SPEAKER_00]: And ironically,
[00:40:56] [SPEAKER_00]: she,
[00:40:56] [SPEAKER_00]: she didn't buy one.
[00:40:57] [SPEAKER_00]: She let that go after I said no.
[00:40:59] [SPEAKER_00]: So,
[00:41:01] [SPEAKER_00]: that's always it.
[00:41:02] [SPEAKER_00]: That one.
[00:41:03] [SPEAKER_00]: I always think of as like one of those ones that was like,
[00:41:06] [SPEAKER_00]: also at the load times were so bad.
[00:41:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Like what?
[00:41:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Some of the slowest load times of all time.
[00:41:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:41:14] [SPEAKER_00]: That was a pretty modern one that there,
[00:41:16] [SPEAKER_00]: that didn't even make it a year.
[00:41:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Believe it or not.
[00:41:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Alex,
[00:41:22] [SPEAKER_00]: do you know about the Gizmondo?
[00:41:25] [SPEAKER_05]: Nope,
[00:41:25] [SPEAKER_05]: but I will Google it.
[00:41:29] [SPEAKER_00]: So the Gizmondo was,
[00:41:31] [SPEAKER_00]: was a handheld that was,
[00:41:35] [SPEAKER_00]: it was released around the time of like the PSP and DS.
[00:41:40] [SPEAKER_00]: We're also 2005 ish.
[00:41:42] [SPEAKER_00]: The Gizmondo was an interesting one because it actually was decently powerful for the time.
[00:41:48] [SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't have a bad looking design either.
[00:41:50] [SPEAKER_00]: It looks pretty.
[00:41:51] [SPEAKER_00]: It was from what I've heard.
[00:41:52] [SPEAKER_00]: They're pretty comfy to hold and they're not the worst design systems ever.
[00:41:57] [SPEAKER_00]: The,
[00:41:58] [SPEAKER_00]: what makes the Gizmondo really funny is just the fucking,
[00:42:01] [SPEAKER_00]: backstory behind it.
[00:42:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Like,
[00:42:05] [SPEAKER_00]: so the Gizmondo,
[00:42:07] [SPEAKER_00]: literally you can,
[00:42:08] [SPEAKER_00]: you can link the Swedish mafia,
[00:42:11] [SPEAKER_00]: a wrecked Ferrari,
[00:42:13] [SPEAKER_00]: and a game called sticky balls to it.
[00:42:15] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh,
[00:42:16] [SPEAKER_05]: wait,
[00:42:16] [SPEAKER_05]: now this sounds familiar.
[00:42:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:42:19] [SPEAKER_00]: The,
[00:42:19] [SPEAKER_00]: the Gizmondo is a very fascinating one because the company behind it,
[00:42:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Tiger telemodic telematics,
[00:42:27] [SPEAKER_00]: one of the,
[00:42:27] [SPEAKER_00]: um,
[00:42:28] [SPEAKER_00]: the big,
[00:42:28] [SPEAKER_00]: uh,
[00:42:29] [SPEAKER_00]: shareholders,
[00:42:30] [SPEAKER_00]: like big guys up at the top was actually like directly somewhat involved with the Swedish,
[00:42:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Swedish mafia at the time.
[00:42:36] [SPEAKER_00]: But he became,
[00:42:37] [SPEAKER_00]: the reason he got caught and this whole thing kind of fell apart was he was like drunk off his ass.
[00:42:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Like one night driving like his like very expensive Ferrari Enzo.
[00:42:48] [SPEAKER_00]: And he straight up crashed the thing.
[00:42:51] [SPEAKER_00]: How did it happen?
[00:42:52] [SPEAKER_00]: And then just kind of walked out of it.
[00:42:54] [SPEAKER_00]: And then when the police showed up,
[00:42:56] [SPEAKER_00]: he just kind of walked over and like tried to play it off.
[00:42:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Like he just crashed and he basically,
[00:43:01] [SPEAKER_00]: he slipped off the door.
[00:43:02] [SPEAKER_05]: Is that why there's pictures of crashed Ferraris when I Googled this?
[00:43:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[00:43:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[00:43:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Like this story is insane.
[00:43:08] [SPEAKER_00]: And then it ended up like that Ferrari ended up linking him back to like the mafia.
[00:43:12] [SPEAKER_00]: And that's how he got caught.
[00:43:14] [SPEAKER_00]: And the system ended up being the casualty of this whole thing.
[00:43:18] [SPEAKER_00]: But what's mental too,
[00:43:19] [SPEAKER_00]: is that Ferrari was repaired and is still around today.
[00:43:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
[00:43:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:43:24] [SPEAKER_00]: They,
[00:43:24] [SPEAKER_00]: they,
[00:43:24] [SPEAKER_00]: they restored that Ferrari because Ferrari Enzo's are incredibly rare.
[00:43:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Like there wasn't a lot made.
[00:43:30] [SPEAKER_05]: That's crazy.
[00:43:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:43:33] [SPEAKER_00]: What's funny though,
[00:43:33] [SPEAKER_00]: is the system itself,
[00:43:35] [SPEAKER_00]: you know what its best game was?
[00:43:37] [SPEAKER_05]: What?
[00:43:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Sticky balls.
[00:43:40] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh,
[00:43:41] [SPEAKER_05]: I see a picture of it.
[00:43:42] [SPEAKER_00]: The game was called sticky balls.
[00:43:44] [SPEAKER_00]: And apparently it's actually a kind of fun puzzle game.
[00:43:47] [SPEAKER_00]: But if you ever want to laugh,
[00:43:49] [SPEAKER_00]: look up the sticky balls intro.
[00:43:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause it's a bunch of balls,
[00:43:52] [SPEAKER_00]: like,
[00:43:52] [SPEAKER_00]: like Southern sounding balls singing a song.
[00:43:56] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's,
[00:43:57] [SPEAKER_00]: it's,
[00:43:58] [SPEAKER_01]: it's wonderful.
[00:43:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:44:00] [SPEAKER_00]: The Gizmondo was a fucking weird one.
[00:44:02] [SPEAKER_00]: It,
[00:44:03] [SPEAKER_00]: it,
[00:44:03] [SPEAKER_00]: it often gets kind of linked together to with the N gauge,
[00:44:06] [SPEAKER_00]: which was another failed handheld attempt that attempted to take on
[00:44:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Nintendo.
[00:44:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:44:11] [SPEAKER_05]: I feel like everyone who's tried to take on Nintendo has failed.
[00:44:16] [SPEAKER_05]: Failed.
[00:44:16] [SPEAKER_00]: The closest to ever get anywhere was the PlayStation portable,
[00:44:19] [SPEAKER_00]: which was not.
[00:44:20] [SPEAKER_05]: Ew.
[00:44:21] [SPEAKER_05]: This is ugly.
[00:44:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh,
[00:44:23] [SPEAKER_00]: which version?
[00:44:24] [SPEAKER_00]: I've seen Nokia.
[00:44:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
[00:44:27] [SPEAKER_00]: It's made,
[00:44:27] [SPEAKER_00]: it was made by Nokia.
[00:44:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:44:29] [SPEAKER_00]: there's two variations of it.
[00:44:30] [SPEAKER_00]: There's the one that's infamous,
[00:44:32] [SPEAKER_00]: which is probably the one you're looking at.
[00:44:33] [SPEAKER_00]: And then there was the later look.
[00:44:35] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know.
[00:44:36] [SPEAKER_05]: It's pretty fucking ugly.
[00:44:38] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean,
[00:44:38] [SPEAKER_05]: the versions I'm seeing the QD,
[00:44:41] [SPEAKER_00]: at least what looked like a handheld.
[00:44:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:44:44] [SPEAKER_00]: so.
[00:44:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Not really.
[00:44:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Uh,
[00:44:48] [SPEAKER_00]: I would take the,
[00:44:49] [SPEAKER_00]: I take the QD over the original.
[00:44:51] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm looking at a picture of a side by side of both of them next to like a,
[00:44:55] [SPEAKER_05]: um,
[00:44:56] [SPEAKER_05]: a game boy.
[00:44:57] [SPEAKER_05]: Uh,
[00:44:58] [SPEAKER_05]: which one's the one you had?
[00:44:59] [SPEAKER_05]: The advanced that closes.
[00:45:01] [SPEAKER_00]: The SP.
[00:45:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:45:02] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:45:02] [SPEAKER_05]: And I'm,
[00:45:03] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm telling you,
[00:45:04] [SPEAKER_05]: it doesn't look like a game console.
[00:45:06] [SPEAKER_05]: It looks like a phone.
[00:45:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:45:08] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
[00:45:08] [SPEAKER_00]: it's,
[00:45:09] [SPEAKER_00]: there wasn't a lot of phones then that were like horizontal like that though.
[00:45:13] [SPEAKER_00]: To be fair.
[00:45:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Uh,
[00:45:15] [SPEAKER_00]: the reason why the,
[00:45:16] [SPEAKER_00]: um,
[00:45:16] [SPEAKER_00]: the N gauge is kind of hilarious though,
[00:45:18] [SPEAKER_00]: is like the original model was so poorly designed.
[00:45:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Like,
[00:45:22] [SPEAKER_00]: so this is fun.
[00:45:23] [SPEAKER_00]: You know how you change,
[00:45:24] [SPEAKER_00]: you change the game cards.
[00:45:26] [SPEAKER_05]: How?
[00:45:27] [SPEAKER_00]: You had to take the battery out because they put the game card slot behind the battery.
[00:45:31] [SPEAKER_00]: That's stupid.
[00:45:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Morons.
[00:45:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:45:35] [SPEAKER_00]: also its design was a little weird.
[00:45:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Like it,
[00:45:38] [SPEAKER_00]: the screen was taller than it was wide,
[00:45:40] [SPEAKER_00]: which is just an odd choice for a handheld.
[00:45:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:45:43] [SPEAKER_00]: and the best,
[00:45:45] [SPEAKER_00]: the best feature of the N gauge was they put the speaker and microphone on the top of it.
[00:45:51] [SPEAKER_00]: So when you,
[00:45:52] [SPEAKER_00]: when you used it as a phone,
[00:45:54] [SPEAKER_00]: it looked like you had a taco on the side of your head.
[00:45:57] [SPEAKER_05]: I see a picture of a guy holding it like that.
[00:46:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:46:00] [SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of people made memes of just holding random things on the side of their head like that.
[00:46:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:46:05] [SPEAKER_00]: it,
[00:46:06] [SPEAKER_00]: the system itself though,
[00:46:07] [SPEAKER_00]: is actually kind of interesting because it actually had some pretty interesting games.
[00:46:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Like Sonic Advance actually got ported to it.
[00:46:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:46:14] [SPEAKER_00]: the Sims busting out for GBA is on it.
[00:46:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Like they had some cool original games like a pathway to glory.
[00:46:21] [SPEAKER_05]: And so tiny.
[00:46:23] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
[00:46:24] [SPEAKER_00]: for the,
[00:46:25] [SPEAKER_00]: for the time.
[00:46:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:46:26] [SPEAKER_00]: But I mean,
[00:46:26] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean,
[00:46:27] [SPEAKER_05]: but it's a weird shape too.
[00:46:28] [SPEAKER_05]: Like,
[00:46:28] [SPEAKER_05]: yeah,
[00:46:29] [SPEAKER_00]: it's,
[00:46:29] [SPEAKER_00]: it's vertical,
[00:46:30] [SPEAKER_00]: not horizontal.
[00:46:31] [SPEAKER_00]: It's weird.
[00:46:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:46:33] [SPEAKER_00]: I kind of want one just to experience it.
[00:46:36] [SPEAKER_00]: The QD model,
[00:46:37] [SPEAKER_00]: I will say fixed a lot of the issues.
[00:46:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Like they put the microphone and speaker on like the front.
[00:46:42] [SPEAKER_00]: So like you hold it normally.
[00:46:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:46:44] [SPEAKER_00]: they also put the cartridge slot on the outside.
[00:46:47] [SPEAKER_00]: So you don't have to take the fucking battery out.
[00:46:48] [SPEAKER_00]: You can play the thing.
[00:46:50] [SPEAKER_05]: And it just didn't hurt.
[00:46:52] [SPEAKER_05]: That was a good idea.
[00:46:53] [SPEAKER_05]: It's just dumb.
[00:46:53] [SPEAKER_00]: It was probably,
[00:46:54] [SPEAKER_00]: it was engineered like a phone.
[00:46:55] [SPEAKER_00]: They didn't think about it at the time.
[00:46:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:46:58] [SPEAKER_00]: I kind of want an engage just cause it's,
[00:47:00] [SPEAKER_00]: it's,
[00:47:00] [SPEAKER_00]: it's interesting,
[00:47:01] [SPEAKER_00]: but it probably will never,
[00:47:03] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll never get one.
[00:47:05] [SPEAKER_00]: You never know.
[00:47:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe someday if I find,
[00:47:07] [SPEAKER_00]: if I find one for cheap,
[00:47:08] [SPEAKER_00]: maybe.
[00:47:10] [SPEAKER_00]: But,
[00:47:10] [SPEAKER_00]: uh,
[00:47:10] [SPEAKER_00]: moving on to,
[00:47:12] [SPEAKER_00]: let's go back to consoles now.
[00:47:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Uh,
[00:47:15] [SPEAKER_00]: let's talk about one that happened very recently.
[00:47:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Do you remember this?
[00:47:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Do you remember the Google Stadia?
[00:47:21] [SPEAKER_05]: Uh,
[00:47:22] [SPEAKER_05]: yes.
[00:47:22] [SPEAKER_05]: I remember getting ads for that a lot.
[00:47:25] [SPEAKER_00]: So Stadia was Google's one attempt at getting into gaming.
[00:47:30] [SPEAKER_05]: That controller is just a copy of the,
[00:47:32] [SPEAKER_05]: uh,
[00:47:33] [SPEAKER_05]: switch.
[00:47:34] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:47:35] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
[00:47:36] [SPEAKER_00]: it wasn't,
[00:47:37] [SPEAKER_00]: I won't say it was a inspired design by any means.
[00:47:40] [SPEAKER_01]: It looks identical.
[00:47:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:47:42] [SPEAKER_00]: You'll notice there wasn't a console either because the,
[00:47:45] [SPEAKER_00]: the Stadia was an interesting idea that I just don't think was,
[00:47:49] [SPEAKER_00]: it's too early.
[00:47:50] [SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think people were really willing to buy in at this point.
[00:47:55] [SPEAKER_00]: The Stadia's gimmick was,
[00:47:56] [SPEAKER_00]: it was a,
[00:47:56] [SPEAKER_00]: it was a 100% streaming based console.
[00:47:59] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh.
[00:48:00] [SPEAKER_00]: So like you would buy,
[00:48:02] [SPEAKER_00]: you'd basically buy this little thing that plugs into your TV and you'd
[00:48:05] [SPEAKER_00]: stream to it.
[00:48:07] [SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's streamed via like your computer or something.
[00:48:11] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know a lot about your phone.
[00:48:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Cause I'm seeing a picture of it,
[00:48:14] [SPEAKER_05]: like attached to a phone.
[00:48:16] [SPEAKER_00]: I think you could play on your phone.
[00:48:18] [SPEAKER_00]: It was,
[00:48:18] [SPEAKER_00]: it was a cloud.
[00:48:19] [SPEAKER_00]: It was cloud based.
[00:48:20] [SPEAKER_00]: So everything was in the cloud.
[00:48:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:48:22] [SPEAKER_00]: and you'd stream it.
[00:48:24] [SPEAKER_00]: It,
[00:48:26] [SPEAKER_00]: from what I heard,
[00:48:27] [SPEAKER_00]: it had performance issues from the start and it kind of just,
[00:48:30] [SPEAKER_00]: it never really,
[00:48:34] [SPEAKER_00]: by the time they kind of got it working,
[00:48:36] [SPEAKER_00]: people were already over it.
[00:48:37] [SPEAKER_00]: And like most other companies just came,
[00:48:40] [SPEAKER_00]: came up with like better services.
[00:48:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Like Xbox has its cloud gaming service.
[00:48:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Sony has PlayStation plus.
[00:48:46] [SPEAKER_00]: NVIDIA has the,
[00:48:47] [SPEAKER_00]: uh,
[00:48:47] [SPEAKER_00]: G force like now streaming.
[00:48:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Amazon has the Luna.
[00:48:50] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:48:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Google was over their heads and they kind of just.
[00:48:54] [SPEAKER_05]: Google has the dingles.
[00:48:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
[00:48:57] [SPEAKER_00]: That basically the Stadia kind of just flopped after a while.
[00:49:00] [SPEAKER_00]: And they,
[00:49:00] [SPEAKER_00]: it lasted like 29,
[00:49:03] [SPEAKER_00]: 2019 to 2023.
[00:49:05] [SPEAKER_00]: So it's longer than the Dreamcast.
[00:49:07] [SPEAKER_00]: And a couple of these systems,
[00:49:08] [SPEAKER_00]: but not long.
[00:49:09] [SPEAKER_00]: It didn't,
[00:49:10] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't even know how,
[00:49:11] [SPEAKER_00]: like if there's any like real marketing numbers for it,
[00:49:13] [SPEAKER_00]: because it was such a weird system.
[00:49:17] [SPEAKER_05]: Can you still play the games if you have it or no?
[00:49:19] [SPEAKER_00]: No,
[00:49:20] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's not even active anymore.
[00:49:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:49:23] [SPEAKER_04]: Google Stadia fails to break through.
[00:49:26] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:49:26] Yeah.
[00:49:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Uh,
[00:49:28] [SPEAKER_00]: speaking of things that failed to break through,
[00:49:31] [SPEAKER_00]: let's talk about,
[00:49:32] [SPEAKER_00]: let's talk about something that was part integral to your favorite
[00:49:35] [SPEAKER_00]: system of all time.
[00:49:37] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
[00:49:39] [SPEAKER_00]: The Nintendo 64 DD.
[00:49:43] [SPEAKER_05]: 64 DD.
[00:49:45] [SPEAKER_00]: DD.
[00:49:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:49:47] [SPEAKER_00]: so for those who don't know,
[00:49:49] [SPEAKER_00]: the N64 DD is a very obscure,
[00:49:52] [SPEAKER_00]: very short lived disc drive.
[00:49:55] [SPEAKER_05]: What is that?
[00:49:56] [SPEAKER_05]: It looks like a tumor.
[00:50:00] [SPEAKER_00]: It was essentially a disc drive add on for the Nintendo 64.
[00:50:05] [SPEAKER_00]: That would,
[00:50:05] [SPEAKER_00]: it sat underneath your Nintendo 64.
[00:50:08] [SPEAKER_00]: And it was supposed to essentially enhance the system for more storage,
[00:50:15] [SPEAKER_00]: more storage and stuff.
[00:50:17] [SPEAKER_00]: The thing is though,
[00:50:18] [SPEAKER_00]: in a very Nintendo way,
[00:50:20] [SPEAKER_00]: they did not do this normally.
[00:50:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:50:24] [SPEAKER_00]: It didn't,
[00:50:25] [SPEAKER_00]: it didn't use the traditional discs.
[00:50:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Like you think like,
[00:50:28] [SPEAKER_00]: you know,
[00:50:28] [SPEAKER_00]: like the PlayStation,
[00:50:29] [SPEAKER_00]: the Saturn,
[00:50:30] [SPEAKER_00]: the dreamcast,
[00:50:32] [SPEAKER_00]: the three,
[00:50:32] [SPEAKER_00]: any,
[00:50:33] [SPEAKER_00]: any disc based system.
[00:50:34] [SPEAKER_02]: Mm.
[00:50:35] [SPEAKER_00]: It instead used magnetic discs,
[00:50:37] [SPEAKER_00]: which are kind of like,
[00:50:38] [SPEAKER_00]: imagine like,
[00:50:39] [SPEAKER_00]: you know,
[00:50:39] [SPEAKER_00]: the film that like tapes tape cassettes are on.
[00:50:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
[00:50:42] [SPEAKER_00]: That's what the disc was made of.
[00:50:45] [SPEAKER_00]: And it was like in this weird,
[00:50:47] [SPEAKER_00]: like shell thing that you would like insert in and it would pop in.
[00:50:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Very,
[00:50:52] [SPEAKER_00]: very Nintendo in the sense that like,
[00:50:54] [SPEAKER_00]: it was just,
[00:50:55] [SPEAKER_00]: it was dumb and it didn't work.
[00:50:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah.
[00:50:57] [SPEAKER_04]: That is weird.
[00:50:59] [SPEAKER_04]: A picture of it.
[00:51:00] [SPEAKER_04]: That's weird.
[00:51:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:51:01] [SPEAKER_00]: The 64 DD literally lasted from 99 to 2001.
[00:51:06] [SPEAKER_00]: It never left Japan because this thing bombed so hard.
[00:51:10] [SPEAKER_00]: It only sold,
[00:51:11] [SPEAKER_00]: it sold less than the Jaguar.
[00:51:13] [SPEAKER_00]: So it only,
[00:51:13] [SPEAKER_00]: it sold less than the goddamn Pippin.
[00:51:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Hell,
[00:51:19] [SPEAKER_00]: it probably sold less than the,
[00:51:20] [SPEAKER_00]: it sold probably less than the fucking hyperscan.
[00:51:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Now that I think about it.
[00:51:25] [SPEAKER_05]: You know,
[00:51:25] [SPEAKER_05]: I feel like the hyperscan probably didn't sell that bag.
[00:51:28] [SPEAKER_05]: It's probably cheap.
[00:51:29] [SPEAKER_05]: Right?
[00:51:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah,
[00:51:31] [SPEAKER_00]: probably.
[00:51:31] [SPEAKER_00]: It actually didn't even look.
[00:51:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:51:34] [SPEAKER_00]: The,
[00:51:34] [SPEAKER_00]: the DD though was such a failure.
[00:51:36] [SPEAKER_00]: I think only had like maybe like 11 games.
[00:51:38] [SPEAKER_00]: If that.
[00:51:41] [SPEAKER_00]: It's most notable in the collection,
[00:51:43] [SPEAKER_00]: actor circles for like,
[00:51:44] [SPEAKER_00]: it had this game.
[00:51:45] [SPEAKER_00]: It had,
[00:51:45] [SPEAKER_00]: um,
[00:51:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Sim,
[00:51:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Sim City 64,
[00:51:47] [SPEAKER_00]: which was kind of cool.
[00:51:48] [SPEAKER_00]: The Mario artist series,
[00:51:50] [SPEAKER_00]: this expansion pack for like F zero at the time.
[00:51:53] [SPEAKER_00]: And then this,
[00:51:54] [SPEAKER_00]: this really interesting game called Doshan,
[00:51:56] [SPEAKER_00]: the giant,
[00:51:56] [SPEAKER_00]: which was later ported to GameCube.
[00:51:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:52:00] [SPEAKER_00]: it was such an astronomical failure though.
[00:52:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Like there was a ton of N64 games that were planned for this thing that just got switched over to cartridges because they,
[00:52:08] [SPEAKER_00]: they were like,
[00:52:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Nintendo was like,
[00:52:10] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah,
[00:52:10] [SPEAKER_05]: this is not the future.
[00:52:12] [SPEAKER_00]: So they actually found an American prototype of one.
[00:52:16] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh,
[00:52:16] [SPEAKER_05]: they did.
[00:52:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:52:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Like there was a proto American prototype of this thing that was started.
[00:52:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Like they found it.
[00:52:22] [SPEAKER_00]: It works.
[00:52:23] [SPEAKER_00]: The problem is though,
[00:52:24] [SPEAKER_00]: the,
[00:52:25] [SPEAKER_00]: it was region locked.
[00:52:26] [SPEAKER_00]: So none of the Japanese games work in it.
[00:52:28] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's kind of just a thing that exists.
[00:52:30] [SPEAKER_05]: It's just there.
[00:52:31] [SPEAKER_05]: And it doesn't do anything.
[00:52:33] [SPEAKER_00]: It's,
[00:52:33] [SPEAKER_00]: it's interesting.
[00:52:34] [SPEAKER_00]: The fact that it existed at all,
[00:52:36] [SPEAKER_00]: but yeah.
[00:52:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:52:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:52:41] [SPEAKER_00]: let's talk about another failure that I was something that I actually liked.
[00:52:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:52:47] [SPEAKER_00]: the Vita.
[00:52:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh,
[00:52:50] [SPEAKER_01]: the Vita's serious failure.
[00:52:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:52:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Failure numbering is very interesting to me because like you gotta,
[00:52:56] [SPEAKER_00]: it goes by times and also just comparison.
[00:52:59] [SPEAKER_00]: The PSP was not a failure.
[00:53:01] [SPEAKER_00]: The PSP sold more than the 3ds.
[00:53:03] [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of people don't realize that.
[00:53:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:53:06] [SPEAKER_00]: the Vita barely made a dent.
[00:53:09] [SPEAKER_00]: In the 3ds's market share.
[00:53:11] [SPEAKER_00]: And the 3ds didn't even have nearly the market share of its predecessor.
[00:53:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:53:16] [SPEAKER_00]: the Vita only sold around 10 to 15 million,
[00:53:18] [SPEAKER_00]: which compared to everything else at the time.
[00:53:20] [SPEAKER_00]: And for what it costs,
[00:53:22] [SPEAKER_00]: that's not good.
[00:53:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:53:24] [SPEAKER_00]: and I think the problem is Sony gave up on it pretty much immediately.
[00:53:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:53:32] [SPEAKER_05]: Like they could have pushed harder.
[00:53:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:53:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Like the thing when it first came out,
[00:53:36] [SPEAKER_00]: they were pushing it hard.
[00:53:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Like they made all sorts of cool games for it.
[00:53:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Like the uncharted on,
[00:53:40] [SPEAKER_00]: it was really awesome.
[00:53:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Like it was,
[00:53:41] [SPEAKER_00]: it had a ton of variety.
[00:53:43] [SPEAKER_00]: And then it persona is kind of the point where it kind of just,
[00:53:48] [SPEAKER_00]: they gave up because like persona four became the big seller on it.
[00:53:51] [SPEAKER_00]: The reason most people bought it.
[00:53:53] [SPEAKER_00]: And then the system literally just kind of became an RPG machine,
[00:53:55] [SPEAKER_00]: even worse than it's the PSP was.
[00:53:58] [SPEAKER_00]: And it had so many great games,
[00:54:00] [SPEAKER_00]: like RPGs on it,
[00:54:01] [SPEAKER_00]: but no one was buying the damn things.
[00:54:03] [SPEAKER_00]: And now like Vitas are just kind of like this rare collectible that the games for it are super expensive now.
[00:54:09] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's kind of just a weird piece of history.
[00:54:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Like Sony's failed attempt at getting back into handhelds and it,
[00:54:16] [SPEAKER_00]: it made its mark.
[00:54:18] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's sad.
[00:54:20] [SPEAKER_00]: And another system that's kind of parallel to it is we've talked about in the past,
[00:54:25] [SPEAKER_00]: the Wii U,
[00:54:26] [SPEAKER_00]: the Wii U was a failure in a lot of ways.
[00:54:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Wii U.
[00:54:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Like the,
[00:54:32] [SPEAKER_00]: the,
[00:54:33] [SPEAKER_00]: the Wii U is such a weird one to me because you don't,
[00:54:38] [SPEAKER_00]: it's really hard to say a system that sold as much as the Wii U was a failure,
[00:54:43] [SPEAKER_00]: but at the same time,
[00:54:47] [SPEAKER_00]: well,
[00:54:48] [SPEAKER_00]: no,
[00:54:48] [SPEAKER_00]: it didn't suck.
[00:54:49] [SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't,
[00:54:50] [SPEAKER_00]: it was a good little system.
[00:54:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Like it sold 13 million,
[00:54:54] [SPEAKER_00]: which I think is around where the GameCube sold and the GameCube,
[00:54:58] [SPEAKER_00]: I consider the GameCube a failure,
[00:55:00] [SPEAKER_00]: but a lot of people don't.
[00:55:04] [SPEAKER_00]: The Wii U was unfortunately a system that like Nintendo,
[00:55:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Nintendo had an idea that was just too early.
[00:55:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Like the Switch was obviously their end game,
[00:55:15] [SPEAKER_00]: but clearly the Wii U was like their first attempt at this.
[00:55:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:55:19] [SPEAKER_00]: And they went about it completely the wrong way.
[00:55:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Like people didn't know it was a console for the first part of its life.
[00:55:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Its name is really dumb and deceptive.
[00:55:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:55:29] [SPEAKER_00]: it was barely more powerful than the last gen systems.
[00:55:34] [SPEAKER_00]: It was basically overshadowed by the PS4 and Xbox one right away.
[00:55:38] [SPEAKER_00]: And people will,
[00:55:40] [SPEAKER_00]: some people will argue that it wasn't a failure,
[00:55:42] [SPEAKER_00]: but to me,
[00:55:43] [SPEAKER_00]: my argument is Nintendo scrapped it and made the Switch.
[00:55:46] [SPEAKER_00]: It was clearly a failure.
[00:55:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:55:49] [SPEAKER_00]: it just didn't have enough to really draw people in.
[00:55:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Like,
[00:55:52] [SPEAKER_00]: ironically,
[00:55:53] [SPEAKER_00]: it's kind of funny.
[00:55:53] [SPEAKER_00]: It had great games on it.
[00:55:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Like the best selling Switch game is a Wii U game.
[00:56:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Mario,
[00:56:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Mario Kart 8.
[00:56:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh,
[00:56:03] [SPEAKER_01]: yep.
[00:56:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:56:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Like,
[00:56:05] [SPEAKER_00]: its legacy has lived on.
[00:56:07] [SPEAKER_00]: It just,
[00:56:08] [SPEAKER_00]: it was a sad,
[00:56:09] [SPEAKER_00]: sad kind of flop.
[00:56:11] [SPEAKER_00]: For the time.
[00:56:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Similar to another Nintendo flop,
[00:56:14] [SPEAKER_00]: the Virtual Boy.
[00:56:17] [SPEAKER_05]: That one had other reasons.
[00:56:19] [SPEAKER_00]: The Virtual Boy was an unfinished idea that had some potential,
[00:56:24] [SPEAKER_00]: but was also just hurt your eyes.
[00:56:28] [SPEAKER_00]: If you didn't set it right.
[00:56:30] [SPEAKER_05]: It hurt yourself in general.
[00:56:32] [SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't comfortable to play.
[00:56:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Like we had done an episode on it way back and you,
[00:56:36] [SPEAKER_00]: you had fun with your time playing it.
[00:56:38] [SPEAKER_00]: That's the funny part.
[00:56:39] [SPEAKER_05]: It was fun playing it.
[00:56:41] [SPEAKER_05]: And I will still say the controller.
[00:56:43] [SPEAKER_05]: Great.
[00:56:43] [SPEAKER_05]: They should have kept that controller because those buttons felt amazing,
[00:56:47] [SPEAKER_05]: but everything else about it is terrible.
[00:56:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Alex,
[00:56:50] [SPEAKER_00]: do you want to know how much it sold?
[00:56:54] [SPEAKER_05]: Let me guess more than the Jaguar.
[00:56:56] [SPEAKER_00]: It sold more than the Jaguar.
[00:56:58] [SPEAKER_05]: How fucking dare you?
[00:57:00] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't believe you.
[00:57:01] [SPEAKER_05]: I think you're lying to make me try and like the N60.
[00:57:05] [SPEAKER_05]: I think this is all a part of your plan to make me like the N64.
[00:57:09] [SPEAKER_05]: And it's not working.
[00:57:09] [SPEAKER_05]: I still hate the Jaguar.
[00:57:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Alex,
[00:57:12] [SPEAKER_00]: I haven't,
[00:57:13] [SPEAKER_00]: the one time the N64 got mentioned,
[00:57:15] [SPEAKER_00]: I mentioned the fact that it sold less than the Jaguar.
[00:57:17] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't care.
[00:57:18] [SPEAKER_05]: I know what you're doing.
[00:57:20] [SPEAKER_00]: The DD anyways,
[00:57:21] [SPEAKER_00]: not the N64 itself,
[00:57:22] [SPEAKER_00]: but the,
[00:57:24] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah,
[00:57:25] [SPEAKER_00]: the virtual boy sold 770 million.
[00:57:28] [SPEAKER_00]: It was,
[00:57:28] [SPEAKER_00]: it was a,
[00:57:30] [SPEAKER_00]: it sold more than I thought,
[00:57:31] [SPEAKER_00]: but it was still a failure.
[00:57:32] [SPEAKER_00]: It only lasted a year.
[00:57:34] [SPEAKER_00]: It ruined Gunpei Yokoi's career,
[00:57:36] [SPEAKER_00]: essentially.
[00:57:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Cool idea.
[00:57:40] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
[00:57:40] [SPEAKER_00]: virtual reality has stuck around.
[00:57:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Unfortunately,
[00:57:42] [SPEAKER_00]: there's not a whole lot of virtual reality with the,
[00:57:44] [SPEAKER_00]: the virtual boy.
[00:57:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:57:49] [SPEAKER_00]: going through some other ones,
[00:57:51] [SPEAKER_00]: like the Oya.
[00:57:53] [SPEAKER_00]: The Oya was a thing.
[00:57:55] [SPEAKER_05]: Oya.
[00:57:55] [SPEAKER_00]: You remember the Oya?
[00:57:57] [SPEAKER_05]: I remember talking about it in the controller episode.
[00:58:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:58:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:58:01] [SPEAKER_00]: The Oya was.
[00:58:02] [SPEAKER_05]: I can tell it.
[00:58:03] [SPEAKER_00]: O-U-Y-A.
[00:58:06] [SPEAKER_00]: O-U-Y-A.
[00:58:09] [SPEAKER_04]: Oya.
[00:58:10] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh yeah.
[00:58:11] [SPEAKER_04]: This thingy.
[00:58:12] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:58:12] [SPEAKER_00]: The Oya was a,
[00:58:14] [SPEAKER_00]: it was a,
[00:58:16] [SPEAKER_00]: one of the rare crowdfunding,
[00:58:17] [SPEAKER_00]: um,
[00:58:18] [SPEAKER_00]: success stories.
[00:58:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause they got fully kickstarted and crowdfunded.
[00:58:22] [SPEAKER_00]: The thing about the Oya that led to its failure was the fact that,
[00:58:26] [SPEAKER_00]: so the Oya's idea was fascinating.
[00:58:30] [SPEAKER_00]: It was essentially,
[00:58:31] [SPEAKER_00]: it was like the first attempt to take making a console that played mobile
[00:58:35] [SPEAKER_00]: games on this,
[00:58:35] [SPEAKER_00]: on a TV,
[00:58:37] [SPEAKER_00]: which the thing was,
[00:58:40] [SPEAKER_00]: they hyped it up as like,
[00:58:41] [SPEAKER_00]: there would be original games for it as well,
[00:58:42] [SPEAKER_00]: which there really never was.
[00:58:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:58:45] [SPEAKER_00]: and the fact that the sad fact about the Oya is it's idea sounds good in
[00:58:49] [SPEAKER_00]: concept,
[00:58:49] [SPEAKER_00]: but in reality,
[00:58:51] [SPEAKER_00]: the reason people play mobile games on mobile is because they're fun
[00:58:54] [SPEAKER_00]: little games that you play for three seconds.
[00:58:55] [SPEAKER_00]: And then you close it.
[00:58:58] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:58:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:58:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Having a full console version of that,
[00:59:00] [SPEAKER_00]: like blown up on a big screen,
[00:59:02] [SPEAKER_00]: you realize these games are not meant to be played.
[00:59:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Like,
[00:59:04] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah,
[00:59:04] [SPEAKER_00]: there are games on mobile devices that should be on,
[00:59:07] [SPEAKER_00]: uh,
[00:59:07] [SPEAKER_00]: consoles.
[00:59:08] [SPEAKER_00]: I just punched my keyboard.
[00:59:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Sorry about that.
[00:59:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[00:59:12] [SPEAKER_00]: but,
[00:59:13] [SPEAKER_00]: uh,
[00:59:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh,
[00:59:17] [SPEAKER_00]: when I punched my keyboard,
[00:59:19] [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't realize I muted you.
[00:59:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Leave it.
[00:59:35] [SPEAKER_00]: No,
[00:59:36] [SPEAKER_00]: you're not.
[00:59:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Goodbye.
[00:59:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh,
[00:59:38] [SPEAKER_01]: shit.
[00:59:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Goodbye.
[00:59:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah.
[00:59:42] [SPEAKER_00]: The Oya,
[00:59:43] [SPEAKER_00]: the Oya was,
[00:59:44] [SPEAKER_00]: it was one of those things that like,
[00:59:45] [SPEAKER_00]: it was such a success story,
[00:59:47] [SPEAKER_00]: but then the thing actually came out at your background is glitching out
[00:59:51] [SPEAKER_00]: horrendously.
[00:59:52] [SPEAKER_02]: Um,
[00:59:54] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah,
[00:59:54] [SPEAKER_00]: the Oya though,
[00:59:55] [SPEAKER_00]: was like such a bizarre thing where like,
[00:59:57] [SPEAKER_00]: it was a success coming out,
[01:00:00] [SPEAKER_00]: but then once it actually was on the market,
[01:00:02] [SPEAKER_00]: no one gave a shit.
[01:00:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Like a bunch of people bought them,
[01:00:05] [SPEAKER_00]: but I'm pretty sure sales wise,
[01:00:08] [SPEAKER_00]: it wasn't amazing by any means.
[01:00:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Like,
[01:00:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Alex,
[01:00:12] [SPEAKER_00]: the Jaguar beat it.
[01:00:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Wait,
[01:00:18] [SPEAKER_00]: wait one second.
[01:00:19] [SPEAKER_00]: I might be wrong.
[01:00:21] [SPEAKER_05]: No,
[01:00:22] [SPEAKER_05]: don't take it back.
[01:00:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Don't take it back.
[01:00:24] [SPEAKER_00]: I have to,
[01:00:25] [SPEAKER_00]: I have to double check now.
[01:00:26] [SPEAKER_05]: No,
[01:00:27] [SPEAKER_01]: no,
[01:00:27] [SPEAKER_00]: you don't.
[01:00:27] [SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to double check.
[01:00:29] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to feel bad if,
[01:00:30] [SPEAKER_00]: if I'm wrong.
[01:00:31] [SPEAKER_01]: No,
[01:00:32] [SPEAKER_01]: it's okay.
[01:00:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh shit.
[01:00:33] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry,
[01:00:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Alex,
[01:00:34] [SPEAKER_00]: I was wrong.
[01:00:38] [SPEAKER_00]: I thought the Jaguar did better.
[01:00:43] [SPEAKER_00]: The Oya,
[01:00:43] [SPEAKER_00]: I quit.
[01:00:45] [SPEAKER_00]: The Oya only barely sold more than the Jaguar,
[01:00:49] [SPEAKER_00]: but yeah,
[01:00:50] [SPEAKER_00]: the Oya like,
[01:00:53] [SPEAKER_00]: you know,
[01:00:54] [SPEAKER_00]: what's really funny about the Oya,
[01:00:56] [SPEAKER_00]: though,
[01:00:56] [SPEAKER_00]: besides the fact that they don't work anymore because the service for them no longer exists.
[01:01:00] [SPEAKER_00]: So like,
[01:01:01] [SPEAKER_00]: it's just their,
[01:01:01] [SPEAKER_00]: their legit door stops now.
[01:01:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
[01:01:04] [SPEAKER_00]: I,
[01:01:05] [SPEAKER_00]: you occasionally will go to like some random like target or Walmart and you can still find them occasionally.
[01:01:12] [SPEAKER_05]: Like being sold for like,
[01:01:14] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah,
[01:01:15] [SPEAKER_00]: they're sitting on like a shelf somewhere.
[01:01:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause the employees don't give a shit and they probably just forgot about it.
[01:01:20] [SPEAKER_00]: But I've seen it though.
[01:01:22] [SPEAKER_00]: They,
[01:01:23] [SPEAKER_00]: they don't probably,
[01:01:24] [SPEAKER_00]: they probably want someone brings it up.
[01:01:26] [SPEAKER_00]: They're probably like,
[01:01:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh,
[01:01:26] [SPEAKER_00]: we can't sell this.
[01:01:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[01:01:28] [SPEAKER_00]: but I do occasionally see them on the shelves rarely,
[01:01:32] [SPEAKER_00]: but sometimes you will.
[01:01:34] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's like those random PlayStation two games that you just see at Walmart's occasionally that have been there forever.
[01:01:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Like sometimes they just kind of get lost.
[01:01:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Like I've seen it.
[01:01:42] [SPEAKER_00]: I've seen it like a couple of times,
[01:01:44] [SPEAKER_00]: but yeah,
[01:01:45] [SPEAKER_00]: they're,
[01:01:45] [SPEAKER_00]: they're legit paperweights at this point and don't work.
[01:01:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[01:01:51] [SPEAKER_00]: another failure that we should bring up was the CDI.
[01:01:57] [SPEAKER_05]: How many failures are there?
[01:01:59] [SPEAKER_05]: Also,
[01:02:00] [SPEAKER_05]: the CDI is a great console too.
[01:02:01] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to start a podcast called the CDX.
[01:02:05] [SPEAKER_00]: You've never even touched a CDI in your life.
[01:02:08] [SPEAKER_05]: It has the spoon controller.
[01:02:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes,
[01:02:11] [SPEAKER_00]: it does.
[01:02:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[01:02:12] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah,
[01:02:13] [SPEAKER_05]: the CD makes it great.
[01:02:15] [SPEAKER_00]: The CD.
[01:02:15] [SPEAKER_05]: I just drink it to me.
[01:02:17] [SPEAKER_05]: It sold more than the,
[01:02:18] [SPEAKER_05]: than the Jaguar,
[01:02:19] [SPEAKER_05]: didn't it?
[01:02:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[01:02:23] [SPEAKER_00]: so it's hard to say because there's no real sales.
[01:02:27] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh,
[01:02:28] [SPEAKER_05]: because it's another one of like Panasonic made one.
[01:02:31] [SPEAKER_05]: This company made one.
[01:02:32] [SPEAKER_00]: So the thing with the CDI was only Phillips and Magnavox made them.
[01:02:38] [SPEAKER_00]: And Magnavox owns Phillips.
[01:02:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Uh,
[01:02:40] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
[01:02:40] [SPEAKER_00]: owns Magnavox is owned by Phillips.
[01:02:43] [SPEAKER_00]: The thing,
[01:02:44] [SPEAKER_00]: the thing about the,
[01:02:45] [SPEAKER_00]: the,
[01:02:45] [SPEAKER_00]: the CDI is there was so many of these goddamn things.
[01:02:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Like there was like a portable,
[01:02:51] [SPEAKER_00]: the,
[01:02:51] [SPEAKER_00]: the,
[01:02:52] [SPEAKER_00]: the,
[01:02:52] [SPEAKER_00]: the,
[01:02:53] [SPEAKER_00]: the console ish looking ones.
[01:02:54] [SPEAKER_00]: The fucking DVD player ones.
[01:02:56] [SPEAKER_00]: There's so many of them.
[01:02:58] [SPEAKER_00]: It's probably just hard to find the actual numbers,
[01:03:00] [SPEAKER_05]: but it had a controller.
[01:03:02] [SPEAKER_05]: That was a spoon.
[01:03:04] [SPEAKER_00]: It did.
[01:03:04] [SPEAKER_00]: It also had a controller.
[01:03:05] [SPEAKER_05]: It had some of the best YouTube poop clips,
[01:03:08] [SPEAKER_05]: clips of all time.
[01:03:10] [SPEAKER_00]: That's all the system is remembered for.
[01:03:12] [SPEAKER_05]: Like it was in the flowers of Robert Mapplethorpe.
[01:03:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah,
[01:03:17] [SPEAKER_00]: it was that,
[01:03:20] [SPEAKER_00]: that,
[01:03:20] [SPEAKER_00]: that's,
[01:03:20] [SPEAKER_00]: that,
[01:03:21] [SPEAKER_00]: that's an interesting game when you're actually looking to more about who
[01:03:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Robert Mapplethorpe was,
[01:03:25] [SPEAKER_00]: but yeah,
[01:03:27] [SPEAKER_00]: it wasn't a good system at all.
[01:03:29] [SPEAKER_00]: It was like the fucking Commodore CD 32 thing.
[01:03:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Like that thing was also,
[01:03:33] [SPEAKER_00]: that one is so unremarkable that it's not even worth talking about.
[01:03:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Um,
[01:03:39] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah,
[01:03:40] [SPEAKER_00]: failed consoles are fascinating.
[01:03:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Like a lot of Atari ones,
[01:03:43] [SPEAKER_00]: like,
[01:03:44] [SPEAKER_00]: look,
[01:03:45] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm the biggest Jaguar,
[01:03:46] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm one of the bigger Jaguar defenders out there.
[01:03:48] [SPEAKER_00]: And even I believe that it's,
[01:03:50] [SPEAKER_00]: it's actually kind of sad how poorly the Jaguar sold.
[01:03:53] [SPEAKER_05]: It was,
[01:03:54] [SPEAKER_05]: it just,
[01:03:55] [SPEAKER_05]: it wasn't fair.
[01:03:56] [SPEAKER_05]: It wasn't given the shot and chance it deserved.
[01:03:59] [SPEAKER_00]: No,
[01:03:59] [SPEAKER_00]: it really wasn't because Atari,
[01:04:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Atari Corp.
[01:04:03] [SPEAKER_05]: They brought the turlet out too soon.
[01:04:06] [SPEAKER_05]: They should have paused on the turlet.
[01:04:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Well,
[01:04:08] [SPEAKER_00]: they should have,
[01:04:09] [SPEAKER_00]: they should have designed it better to actually.
[01:04:13] [SPEAKER_05]: They should have paused.
[01:04:14] [SPEAKER_05]: They should have took a step back and said,
[01:04:16] [SPEAKER_05]: we got to fix the turlet.
[01:04:18] [SPEAKER_00]: The problem with the Jaguar was they didn't give great instructions on how to
[01:04:22] [SPEAKER_00]: make stuff for it.
[01:04:23] [SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of developers couldn't figure out how to actually use its hardware.
[01:04:27] [SPEAKER_00]: So they just used one of the chips that wasn't intended for processing as the
[01:04:32] [SPEAKER_00]: main processor.
[01:04:34] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a,
[01:04:35] [SPEAKER_00]: it's an interesting system.
[01:04:36] [SPEAKER_00]: I like it personally.
[01:04:37] [SPEAKER_00]: We did a whole episode on it.
[01:04:38] [SPEAKER_00]: We'll probably revisit it at some point.
[01:04:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause that episode is kind of old now,
[01:04:41] [SPEAKER_00]: but yeah,
[01:04:42] [SPEAKER_00]: it's failed.
[01:04:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Consoles are kind of depressing to me because so many of them had so much
[01:04:50] [SPEAKER_00]: potential,
[01:04:50] [SPEAKER_00]: like the fair child channel F.
[01:04:52] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
[01:04:52] [SPEAKER_00]: unfortunately all those really ancient ones,
[01:04:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Atari had a monopoly at that point.
[01:04:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Like the one Atari system that didn't fail was the 2600.
[01:05:02] [SPEAKER_00]: And ironically,
[01:05:03] [SPEAKER_00]: the 2600 was kind of pathetic.
[01:05:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Like system,
[01:05:05] [SPEAKER_00]: like power wise.
[01:05:06] [SPEAKER_05]: All right.
[01:05:07] [SPEAKER_05]: All right.
[01:05:08] [SPEAKER_05]: Calm down.
[01:05:09] [SPEAKER_05]: Don't take everything away from us.
[01:05:11] [SPEAKER_05]: Atari fans.
[01:05:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Atari.
[01:05:13] [SPEAKER_05]: You don't even,
[01:05:14] [SPEAKER_05]: Alex,
[01:05:14] [SPEAKER_00]: you don't even care about anything but the Jaguar.
[01:05:16] [SPEAKER_05]: I just care about the Jaguar.
[01:05:18] [SPEAKER_05]: Cause it's the best console they ever made.
[01:05:20] [SPEAKER_00]: It arguably is.
[01:05:22] [SPEAKER_05]: It's better than the N64.
[01:05:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Alex,
[01:05:24] [SPEAKER_00]: it arguably is like from a processing power.
[01:05:27] [SPEAKER_05]: It is the best.
[01:05:29] [SPEAKER_05]: Right,
[01:05:29] [SPEAKER_05]: Miss Dingles?
[01:05:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
[01:05:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Miss Dingles agrees.
[01:05:33] [SPEAKER_00]: It was the last console made in America,
[01:05:35] [SPEAKER_00]: like actually manufactured here.
[01:05:38] [SPEAKER_00]: And that is interesting.
[01:05:39] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's kind of sad at the same time that it ended on a sad note.
[01:05:44] [SPEAKER_05]: On a turlet.
[01:05:45] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah,
[01:05:48] [SPEAKER_00]: failed consoles make me sad.
[01:05:50] [SPEAKER_00]: I wish,
[01:05:50] [SPEAKER_00]: I wish more of them survived longer.
[01:05:53] [SPEAKER_05]: Like any more failed consoles coming out soon.
[01:05:56] [SPEAKER_05]: AKA the PS five deluxe or whatever.
[01:05:59] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't see,
[01:05:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't see the PS five pro doing well.
[01:06:03] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think the switch two is going to fail.
[01:06:09] [SPEAKER_00]: It's weird.
[01:06:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause we're at a point in time now where I'm not sure if there's going to be
[01:06:13] [SPEAKER_00]: another console generation.
[01:06:16] [SPEAKER_05]: You don't think another Xbox or something?
[01:06:19] [SPEAKER_00]: It's unclear.
[01:06:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Microsoft makes it sound like they're not making another console,
[01:06:23] [SPEAKER_00]: but sometimes they also do make it seem like they're,
[01:06:27] [SPEAKER_00]: they claim they're working on stuff,
[01:06:29] [SPEAKER_00]: but then they also make it sound like they're not interested in making more
[01:06:32] [SPEAKER_00]: systems and they're going to go strictly PC,
[01:06:35] [SPEAKER_00]: which fair enough.
[01:06:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Even Sony,
[01:06:38] [SPEAKER_00]: even Sony is kind of unclear on what their next idea is going to be.
[01:06:43] [SPEAKER_00]: The only one that we know is getting a sex successor is the switch because
[01:06:48] [SPEAKER_00]: the switch is a console success where like it's still,
[01:06:52] [SPEAKER_00]: it's still doing well now.
[01:06:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Like honestly,
[01:06:55] [SPEAKER_00]: they could probably stick with it if they really wanted to.
[01:06:58] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[01:06:58] [SPEAKER_00]: The thing is though,
[01:06:59] [SPEAKER_00]: it's starting to show its age.
[01:07:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Like it is definitely underpowered by today's standards and they could
[01:07:05] [SPEAKER_00]: arguably do more with it.
[01:07:07] [SPEAKER_00]: So we'll have to wait and see what the switch two ends up being,
[01:07:09] [SPEAKER_05]: but yeah,
[01:07:11] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't get one.
[01:07:12] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure everyone's going to get a switch.
[01:07:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Everyone's going to Alex is the next Pokemon is going to be on.
[01:07:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Excuse me.
[01:07:20] [SPEAKER_05]: You can't edit it out.
[01:07:22] [SPEAKER_05]: You can't,
[01:07:22] [SPEAKER_05]: you have to keep it.
[01:07:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Bill burped here.
[01:07:26] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not editing out because I'm not ashamed.
[01:07:28] [SPEAKER_00]: It happens.
[01:07:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Be ashamed.
[01:07:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Be a little ashamed.
[01:07:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Come on.
[01:07:33] [SPEAKER_00]: I own it.
[01:07:34] [SPEAKER_05]: No.
[01:07:35] [SPEAKER_05]: What if you farted on game?
[01:07:39] [SPEAKER_05]: Would you edit that out if it was a two?
[01:07:41] [SPEAKER_00]: It hasn't happened yet.
[01:07:42] [SPEAKER_00]: That's a bit that I know of.
[01:07:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Bill tomorrow,
[01:07:44] [SPEAKER_05]: you're eating all beans and we're going to test it out.
[01:07:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Are we recording tomorrow?
[01:07:52] [SPEAKER_05]: No,
[01:07:53] [SPEAKER_05]: but I just want to test it and see if it will pick up on the mic.
[01:07:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Wonderful.
[01:07:58] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah,
[01:07:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I think that is a good enough place to end this off.
[01:08:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Once again,
[01:08:05] [SPEAKER_00]: guys,
[01:08:05] [SPEAKER_00]: thank you for joining us on the gaming collecting podcast.

[01:08:26] [SPEAKER_00]: We're currently.
[01:08:30] [SPEAKER_00]: We're currently doing a,
[01:08:31] [SPEAKER_00]: a series of blogs for Halloween called super super pod spooked over.
[01:08:35] [SPEAKER_00]: I just put out a blog talking about the dreamcast,
[01:08:38] [SPEAKER_00]: the dreamcast,
[01:08:39] [SPEAKER_00]: a hidden gem called ill bleed,
[01:08:41] [SPEAKER_00]: which is one of the most unhinged games ever made.
[01:08:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Be sure to check that out along with all sorts of other blogs for Halloween
[01:08:47] [SPEAKER_00]: and be sure to check out our other show,
[01:08:50] [SPEAKER_00]: the other shows on there like super pod saga,
[01:08:52] [SPEAKER_00]: super ghost radio,
[01:08:53] [SPEAKER_00]: retro rehab,
[01:08:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Tommy's video game,
[01:08:54] [SPEAKER_00]: right along a novel console.
[01:08:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Our silence.
[01:08:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Find time.
[01:08:59] [SPEAKER_00]: The elder trolls gaming podcast.
[01:09:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Remember 64 gaming together.
[01:09:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Friday night game cast.
[01:09:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Our three shows,
[01:09:07] [SPEAKER_00]: gaming and collecting the 3DO experience.
[01:09:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Boo.
[01:09:13] [SPEAKER_01]: And gaming and collecting.
