[00:00:00] Hey everybody! On this episode of Gaming And Collecting, me and Alex are going to be taking a look at the Pokemon Anime, going over mostly the early episodes and just kind of recounting some of our earliest memories with the show.

[00:00:12] But anyways guys, on with the episode.

[00:00:35] Hi, you Ben.

[00:00:38] Minion. Minion. Minion.

[00:00:43] She's eating a minion popsicle because she has a weird obsession with minions.

[00:00:47] No, it's not popsicle. It's like one of those gumbo-isonic treats.

[00:00:53] So like an ice cream on a stick?

[00:00:56] On a stick, yes. That's not popsicle. Popsicle is like what I usually eat.

[00:01:01] Different.

[00:01:03] It's one of those cursed ice creams that you get out of the sketchy ice cream truck. Yes.

[00:01:08] I found it at my local grocery store.

[00:01:10] I'm not going to say I found it on the ground.

[00:01:13] No, that's only donuts, Bill. I'll clean out the comb.

[00:01:19] Or Kraft Mac and cheese, apparently.

[00:01:23] I guarantee you at Retro World we are going to find Kraft Mac.

[00:01:26] We should try and find some. We should look for some of the posh.

[00:01:29] I bet you'll find it somewhere in that building.

[00:01:33] That's our goal.

[00:01:35] So finally, one thing of Kraft Mac and cheese.

[00:01:40] Yeah, this has been a week so far.

[00:01:45] Yeah. Anything. How are you recovering?

[00:01:51] Oh, from my teeth. I can eat pretty much perfectly again.

[00:01:55] Do you feel like stitches?

[00:01:59] No, I think I had those dissolving ones and they kind of just dissolved.

[00:02:03] Okay.

[00:02:05] Are you still using the swish-swish?

[00:02:08] Yeah, they said do it for like, it was like 48 days or something.

[00:02:12] Okay.

[00:02:14] It's a long time.

[00:02:16] Yeah, or it was like either that or like 28.

[00:02:21] But you're feeling better?

[00:02:23] Yeah. I mean, it's still weird sometimes like I'll bite something and I'll like the food will be like stuck back there.

[00:02:29] And I'll be like, that feels weird because there's like a gap now.

[00:02:34] Ah, but getting used to it.

[00:02:37] My stomach was all fucked though after I started eating regular food again because it was like, what are you doing?

[00:02:42] I only ate soup for like 10 days.

[00:02:46] Soup and like I had some noodles.

[00:02:51] Yeah, exactly.

[00:02:53] A very minimal, not very changing diet.

[00:02:56] Yeah. And then my eight, I ate real food again and my stomach was like, what the fuck?

[00:03:02] Yep.

[00:03:05] Yeah, that's been that's been the deeds so far other than that.

[00:03:10] I've been doing a lot of home improvement stuff still because that's just what you do when you own a house.

[00:03:16] Oh yeah. Me too. We've been doing a lot of painting around here.

[00:03:20] I still got paint one more room but then I'll be done with painting for quite a bit.

[00:03:25] Who's been her usual terror?

[00:03:28] Yeah. Menace. She's a menace. Menace, menace, menace.

[00:03:33] I started watching someone block clover again.

[00:03:37] Nice. I don't know why I just felt like it.

[00:03:40] I was like, I want to watch me some black clover.

[00:03:42] Yeah, I did.

[00:03:44] I got to give around to like the episodes I want to watch.

[00:03:48] You know, yeah.

[00:03:50] I got two very rare manga in the mail today.

[00:03:53] Manga? You get some manga?

[00:03:57] Yeah, I got the final two volumes of Kimi Nii Tadouge.

[00:04:03] I can finally say that one is done.

[00:04:10] Finally it's another...

[00:04:12] I think in terms of ongoing series I have that aren't that are finished.

[00:04:16] The only ones I have left to complete are...

[00:04:19] I have to finish Rene, Yu-Gi-Oh!

[00:04:26] I only have the first three volumes of Yu-Gi-Oh! and Ranma.

[00:04:32] But Ranma is going to be a long time before I get to that.

[00:04:38] What about you? Have you been collecting any manga?

[00:04:41] I think the last update I did was I got a bunch...

[00:04:45] I think I talked about it already but like Magi Fender releasing.

[00:04:48] So I've been collecting that.

[00:04:50] I got all of what's out of Kaiju number eight because I really like that show.

[00:04:55] And I really like the manga.

[00:04:58] Actually, I really like the art style better in the manga than the anime.

[00:05:02] Not that I think the anime looks bad but...

[00:05:06] I kind of like how the...

[00:05:07] You know, sometimes the character designs just look better on paper.

[00:05:13] For some, if the artist has certain artistic...

[00:05:18] Like Jinji Ito.

[00:05:20] His stuff, I just feel like it never animates great.

[00:05:25] And I feel like it's just kind of tending to his style.

[00:05:28] Not that I think Kaiju number eight's animation looks bad.

[00:05:30] But that's just what I'm comparing it to.

[00:05:32] It never really...

[00:05:34] For some artists it never really matches up to par.

[00:05:38] Well even like Dora Hidora.

[00:05:41] Like it's never going to be the detailed level of like Dora Hidora.

[00:05:45] The anime is going to be like of the manga.

[00:05:48] There's a reason why they made it CGI.

[00:05:50] Because they just tried to do that animation wise.

[00:05:52] Which would have been like hell.

[00:05:54] Yeah.

[00:05:57] Any other updates?

[00:06:00] Are our moms coming this weekend?

[00:06:04] Yeah.

[00:06:06] Hi mom!

[00:06:08] Nothing too major.

[00:06:09] Just kind of...

[00:06:12] Just tired.

[00:06:13] Can you believe it's the middle of August already?

[00:06:17] Isn't that crazy? I get paid tomorrow.

[00:06:19] Woof woof!

[00:06:21] Same.

[00:06:23] Although my paychecks are going to suck this week.

[00:06:25] Because I missed a couple days and didn't get a lot of hours.

[00:06:30] Yeah, I had to do it.

[00:06:32] Yeah.

[00:06:33] Yep.

[00:06:35] I'm really...

[00:06:36] This stuff might sound mean.

[00:06:38] But we have interns this summer.

[00:06:41] And it's their last week.

[00:06:42] I'm so happy they're leaving.

[00:06:46] They're just...

[00:06:47] It's like a lot of work bringing a kid in for the summer.

[00:06:52] Who is going to have to try and learn everything in a whirlwind.

[00:06:55] And they're doing a project.

[00:06:57] But you're also going to do the project for them as well.

[00:07:00] Because they don't necessarily know things.

[00:07:03] So tomorrow is their final presentation.

[00:07:06] And then Friday is their last day.

[00:07:09] And they're gone.

[00:07:11] Yeah.

[00:07:12] I'll miss them.

[00:07:13] But I'm also like, thank you for leaving.

[00:07:17] I can't do this right now.

[00:07:19] I'm too busy.

[00:07:21] I have too many things.

[00:07:23] Oh, I had a part I was working on today in the print I got for it.

[00:07:27] If you had seen that print, you would have probably been disgusted.

[00:07:31] Because it was one of the worst prints I think I've gotten in a long time.

[00:07:34] Oh, trust me.

[00:07:35] I've seen some bad ones that I jumped.

[00:07:38] Oh, I can imagine.

[00:07:39] So we have our normal engineer who does most of our prints.

[00:07:43] He's very good.

[00:07:45] This one, I took one looking and I'm like, what the fuck was going on with this print?

[00:07:49] And I looked at the name on the bottom and I was like, oh, it's not our normal guy.

[00:07:53] That explains a lot.

[00:07:56] I'm pretty sure...

[00:07:57] So you obviously went through drafting glass in school.

[00:08:00] I was joking saying if Alex is your shop teacher and seen this print,

[00:08:04] she would have been disgusted.

[00:08:06] I have seen it.

[00:08:08] I probably also have been disgusted because I know what to look for.

[00:08:10] You know how most mechanical prints for machining,

[00:08:14] you're supposed to pick a zero in one of the corners and then make the dimensions off the corner?

[00:08:19] Yeah.

[00:08:20] This individual decided to just make the center point, the center of the part.

[00:08:25] And they just jumbled all the fucking dimensions off of it.

[00:08:30] And they overlapped and like they just left the overlapping numbers.

[00:08:34] And I was like, I'm like, yeah.

[00:08:36] Was there like a circle in the middle of the part?

[00:08:39] Or was it just like a square, like a rectangle?

[00:08:42] Just a rectangle and they'd made the center.

[00:08:44] There was nothing even they were identifying in the center?

[00:08:48] No, they literally gave the dimensions.

[00:08:49] It was a 15 inch by three by a three inch rectangle.

[00:08:57] And the center, basically they made the centering point,

[00:09:01] the center of the part and then all the dimensions just went off of that.

[00:09:04] And I was like, what the fuck?

[00:09:06] Like, this is stupid.

[00:09:09] That is weird.

[00:09:10] How did they do that?

[00:09:12] Also, a lot of their drill sizes didn't actually exist or they were metric drills,

[00:09:16] which we don't have in the company.

[00:09:19] Like I was looking at and I looked at the drill chart.

[00:09:24] And be like, what the fuck is this?

[00:09:26] Or show the boss?

[00:09:27] No, I just looked at it.

[00:09:28] We basically all just like made fun of the guy behind his back.

[00:09:32] And then I just dealt with it.

[00:09:35] Let's face it.

[00:09:37] If I say anything, it's not going to change.

[00:09:42] So what's going on is a lot of these new engineers are going,

[00:09:46] they're not, they're supposed to go through our main engineer.

[00:09:49] If they need something,

[00:09:50] but a lot of them are going behind his back and just dropping off prints in the

[00:09:53] room without saying anything.

[00:09:55] So, because they already gotten trouble for sending stuff out when they're

[00:09:58] not supposed to.

[00:10:01] But yeah, it's like, it's not worth the hassle of even saying anything.

[00:10:05] So we just make fun of them.

[00:10:09] Sometimes just go do it.

[00:10:11] Oh, I mean, hey, if it, if it takes me longer to make it,

[00:10:14] because I got to decipher the print, that's not my problem.

[00:10:17] Yeah.

[00:10:18] Well, best is though, uh, yeah,

[00:10:20] the whole size is worth metric drills that we don't have.

[00:10:23] So I go up, I look on the chart and I'm like, hmm,

[00:10:27] closest drill is a T drill,

[00:10:28] which is like four thousands above what they want.

[00:10:32] Good thing that good thing the tolerance is five foul because they're getting

[00:10:35] the T drill.

[00:10:37] They're fault for being stupid.

[00:10:39] So yeah, just like, why would you,

[00:10:42] why would you choose a metric?

[00:10:45] I don't, I don't get that.

[00:10:46] That's just dumb.

[00:10:48] Oh, I am.

[00:10:50] Speaking of the interns presentations,

[00:10:52] I practiced with them today and yesterday.

[00:10:56] Yesterday was the first round and oh my God,

[00:10:58] they were some of the worst presentations I've ever seen.

[00:11:02] Like I was just like, you can't just say,

[00:11:05] this is my project.

[00:11:07] Here's the results.

[00:11:09] Like that's not how you present something.

[00:11:10] You have to be like, all right,

[00:11:11] here's the problem we're facing.

[00:11:13] Here's how we're going to do it.

[00:11:15] Here's what I did and here's the results.

[00:11:17] Like you have to actually have a plan,

[00:11:20] have a flow and I was like, what the fuck?

[00:11:23] Like, oh my God,

[00:11:23] they were some of the worst things I've ever seen.

[00:11:26] And there's one kid who like,

[00:11:28] he just sounds miserable and I'm like, dude,

[00:11:32] if you, I don't care what you're presenting on,

[00:11:35] you could be presenting on a rock.

[00:11:37] But if you go at it with the attitude of like, hey,

[00:11:41] like this is the rock.

[00:11:43] Like that and that, like upbeat,

[00:11:45] you know, trying your best versus is a rock.

[00:11:49] Here's some pictures.

[00:11:51] Here's my project.

[00:11:53] Like what would you rather listen to?

[00:11:56] The upbeat happy person or the guy going,

[00:11:58] or the guy who sounds like they hate everything.

[00:12:02] So yeah, I have this one.

[00:12:04] We have examples of that and both are at my job like as well.

[00:12:08] So it's like we just, I get both of us to both worlds.

[00:12:11] Yeah.

[00:12:12] But like, you know, you'd rather have the more engaging person

[00:12:15] and like people are going to understand your project

[00:12:18] and be less nitpicky if you're more enthusiastic and excited

[00:12:21] about what you're doing versus you sound like you hate it.

[00:12:25] Yeah.

[00:12:26] Yeah.

[00:12:26] And then they tried to get lippy with me and I was like, dude,

[00:12:29] I'm wasting my time helping you guys because I want you to succeed.

[00:12:33] The intern.

[00:12:35] Yeah, don't fucking give me lip right now because I really

[00:12:39] and yeah.

[00:12:39] And then he was like, I'm really sorry, Alex.

[00:12:41] And I was like, yeah, you should be.

[00:12:44] They did not realize they're trying to get a job.

[00:12:47] Like, like, and I just, I gave him a lecture and I was like, dude,

[00:12:51] like, I'm sorry, but if you want to be an engineer,

[00:12:54] guess what?

[00:12:54] You're going to do presentations because if you want something

[00:12:58] to go through, if you want to purchase new equipment,

[00:13:00] if you want to start a new project,

[00:13:02] you're going to have to do a sales pitch for each of them.

[00:13:05] Not really sales, but like you have to sell it because what are

[00:13:08] you going to need with those projects?

[00:13:09] You're going to need capital.

[00:13:10] You're going to need support from other departments.

[00:13:14] You're going to need your managers,

[00:13:16] but you might need the supervisors.

[00:13:18] You might need the operator support.

[00:13:19] So you need to sell it.

[00:13:21] Like at work, like I come off as very like extroverted,

[00:13:26] but like really I'm more of an introvert.

[00:13:28] Like I, when I'm at home, like I just want to be left alone.

[00:13:31] And really only my close friends and like you see like my true

[00:13:36] weirdness, you know, but for the most part, like I,

[00:13:38] I'm very like, I stick to myself.

[00:13:42] So, but I was like, I was getting pissed.

[00:13:45] Like I was like, I'll leave.

[00:13:47] I don't lose my time.

[00:13:48] In other words, your job is safe.

[00:13:53] Yeah.

[00:13:53] I like you a good job.

[00:13:56] Cause the future of engineering and like the trades is not

[00:14:01] looking very bright right now.

[00:14:04] Yeah, but that was my spiel.

[00:14:07] I had to get it off my chest.

[00:14:09] Oh yeah.

[00:14:09] We had the company cook out this weekend.

[00:14:12] Oh you do?

[00:14:13] Oh, like just like you guys though?

[00:14:15] No, no, it was the whole,

[00:14:17] the whole company one where they have like the people that

[00:14:20] brought food.

[00:14:21] The company, people were so apathetic this year,

[00:14:23] though a lot of people didn't even bother.

[00:14:25] So there was a ton of food that didn't get you so like eating.

[00:14:29] Oh really?

[00:14:30] Yeah.

[00:14:31] Well, it's funny, like I went out there and there was no line.

[00:14:34] It was literally just like the one supervisor that was like

[00:14:37] kind of just watching it.

[00:14:39] And I walked out and he's like, he's like just you.

[00:14:42] I'm like, yeah,

[00:14:43] the rest of the tour room has already gone through.

[00:14:45] I was doing a deGator and they all left without me.

[00:14:50] Wow.

[00:14:51] Oh, like during the shift right?

[00:14:53] Like during the day.

[00:14:55] Okay.

[00:14:56] Weekend.

[00:14:57] I thought you said no, no, no, no, no, not during.

[00:15:00] That's why I thought it meant like the tour room,

[00:15:02] like what you guys do on a case.

[00:15:04] No, no, no, that's that.

[00:15:07] Yeah, it was, it was catered,

[00:15:10] but I guess a lot of people didn't even bother because

[00:15:12] like the morale at the company is so apathetic right now.

[00:15:15] Yeah.

[00:15:16] A lot of good people left.

[00:15:18] So.

[00:15:19] And there's no direction, at least from what I've heard.

[00:15:23] Well, I don't know.

[00:15:25] I don't work there anymore.

[00:15:26] Your department doesn't exist anymore because that you all quit.

[00:15:30] Well, I think some of the marks the layer.

[00:15:33] I went other.

[00:15:34] They, they're all quit or went other places.

[00:15:37] I think there's one, there's like one left.

[00:15:40] Yeah.

[00:15:41] Is it.

[00:15:42] I think so.

[00:15:44] Okay.

[00:15:45] Poor thing.

[00:15:48] Anyways, though,

[00:15:50] we got a 15 minute intro.

[00:15:52] Let's go.

[00:15:53] We wait 15 minutes.

[00:15:55] Get into our, our topic,

[00:15:58] which I guess you can roll into why we were inspired by our topic.

[00:16:03] Um, yeah, there was some,

[00:16:05] we had some tragic sad news for any.

[00:16:08] Nineties child out there who was a big watcher of anime back in the day.

[00:16:12] Um,

[00:16:14] tragically we lost, we lost a voice actor that's pretty well known to a lot of people.

[00:16:20] Um,

[00:16:21] one second.

[00:16:23] Uh, Rachel, uh, Lilith died.

[00:16:26] She was the voice of Misty and Jesse from the original four kids Pokemon dub.

[00:16:31] So.

[00:16:32] Do any other roles besides, um,

[00:16:36] probably I didn't.

[00:16:38] I didn't do a lot of research.

[00:16:40] I won't lie.

[00:16:41] Um, let me,

[00:16:42] let me bring up her Wikipedia page real quick.

[00:16:45] Uh, but the sad part though is she was only.

[00:16:49] 55 I believe.

[00:16:51] Oh wow.

[00:16:52] That's young.

[00:16:53] Yeah.

[00:16:54] Sadly cancer,

[00:16:55] I believe was what the cause of death was.

[00:16:58] Um,

[00:17:00] yeah,

[00:17:01] most of her roles were in, um,

[00:17:07] uh, Pokemon stuff.

[00:17:08] Uh, they did use her voice archival recordings and detective Pikachu for

[00:17:13] jigglypuff,

[00:17:14] which is kind of interesting.

[00:17:16] Oh, she was a couple hunter hunter characters too.

[00:17:20] Um,

[00:17:21] the original Hunter or the redo.

[00:17:23] No, no, the,

[00:17:24] the remake because she was, um,

[00:17:27] gone, um,

[00:17:29] aunt.

[00:17:30] Oh yeah.

[00:17:31] And then, uh, she was also,

[00:17:33] he's also the announcer, uh, from one of the,

[00:17:36] one of the arcs I can't remember and another character.

[00:17:41] no, she's,

[00:17:42] I'm trying to look now.

[00:17:44] Oh, she was in dessert.

[00:17:46] She did a lot of friends desk and berserk.

[00:17:49] Yeah.

[00:17:49] She did a lot of, um,

[00:17:50] for kids work.

[00:17:52] Um,

[00:17:53] oh, she was in Sonic X.

[00:17:54] Woohoo.

[00:17:55] Wait, who was she in Sonic X?

[00:17:58] Some character named Danny.

[00:18:00] I have no idea who that is.

[00:18:01] It's probably one of Chris's friends.

[00:18:03] She was in wakes club.

[00:18:05] The original, oh yeah.

[00:18:06] The four kids dub.

[00:18:08] Hell yeah.

[00:18:10] It's funny too.

[00:18:11] Looking at some of these, like you can really tell,

[00:18:13] like when she was in her prime,

[00:18:15] just based on like how the shows look because wow, like also

[00:18:20] her voice, she's in a,

[00:18:22] she's in a Super Smash Brothers,

[00:18:24] all the Super Smash Brothers games because they used archival,

[00:18:28] um,

[00:18:29] her, um, archival voice for Jigglypuff.

[00:18:34] Also my,

[00:18:36] Goldy.

[00:18:37] Goldy.

[00:18:38] And my,

[00:18:39] my favorite role of hers was, um,

[00:18:42] she was in Ape Escape 2, the North American dub,

[00:18:45] uh, because hilariously they made the main character in

[00:18:49] Ape Escape 2, Jimmy is literally voiced by Veronica Taylor,

[00:18:52] who was Ash and then Natalie,

[00:18:54] the other main female in the game.

[00:18:55] It was a,

[00:18:56] she voiced her and it was basically just Ash and Misty,

[00:18:59] which was really funny.

[00:19:01] That is funny.

[00:19:03] You can't unhear it once you, uh, listen to it.

[00:19:06] Once you hear it the first, wow.

[00:19:08] It is funny looking at the older animation,

[00:19:11] like in the original show she voiced a lot of character,

[00:19:14] like I mean some,

[00:19:15] a bunch of one-off characters too.

[00:19:17] Oh yeah, there was a,

[00:19:18] there was a lot of, um,

[00:19:20] Oh, I did not know she played that character.

[00:19:23] I didn't even realize that she was,

[00:19:25] uh,

[00:19:26] Utena and Revolutionary Girl Utena,

[00:19:28] one of the first magical girlie in a maze out there.

[00:19:31] Hmm.

[00:19:34] Yeah.

[00:19:35] Sadly though,

[00:19:36] a lot of the four kids actors kind of,

[00:19:38] once,

[00:19:39] once four kids kind of imploded,

[00:19:40] a lot of them kind of went into obscurity, sadly.

[00:19:44] Um, because I hadn't,

[00:19:45] I hadn't really thought about what most of those actors in a long time.

[00:19:49] Like I know Veronica Taylor was getting a lot of, um,

[00:19:53] roles and like stuff,

[00:19:54] because I know she was in a like Dragon Ball Super at one point.

[00:19:57] Um, and a few other things,

[00:20:00] but like for the most part,

[00:20:01] a lot of them just kind of disappeared,

[00:20:02] especially after like the,

[00:20:04] how, um,

[00:20:06] just how the four kids kind of imploded.

[00:20:09] Hmm.

[00:20:10] But because of her passing,

[00:20:12] we thought it'd be fitting to,

[00:20:14] we've been on kind of a Pokemon thing again,

[00:20:17] like we're covering various,

[00:20:19] various aspects of the,

[00:20:21] the series now and we've,

[00:20:22] we've never actually,

[00:20:23] we covered it briefly

[00:20:24] in all the way back in episode two of the podcast.

[00:20:27] Um,

[00:20:28] but we thought it would be cool to talk about the anime because

[00:20:31] the anime was very much a part of most,

[00:20:35] a lot of people's childhoods.

[00:20:37] Um, ours as well.

[00:20:38] I mean, I know I liked a shit on it a lot,

[00:20:39] but it was still something that we all watched very, uh,

[00:20:44] religiously long time.

[00:20:45] Oh yeah.

[00:20:46] I mean,

[00:20:46] I feel like the first thing we could talk about is just that intro,

[00:20:51] the Pokemon theme.

[00:20:53] The Pokemon theme.

[00:20:54] I know to this very day.

[00:20:59] I mean,

[00:21:00] the original Pokemon theme,

[00:21:02] it's hilarious because the American themes were all different

[00:21:05] from the Japanese ones.

[00:21:07] Yes.

[00:21:08] Like it's actually funny if you listen to the Japanese theme songs

[00:21:11] because they are so different.

[00:21:14] The original time that like four kids would always change

[00:21:18] the theme song and we got bangers like this

[00:21:21] and then we got car shit like the pirate rap.

[00:21:24] Yeah.

[00:21:25] Or the, the Yu-Gi-Oh theme which is just hilarious.

[00:21:28] Yu-Gi-Oh!

[00:21:29] Um,

[00:21:30] your move, you know, that's that fun stuff.

[00:21:32] It's like barely a song.

[00:21:34] It's more spoken word with like some,

[00:21:36] some music in the background.

[00:21:38] It's got some funk, it's got some funky bass.

[00:21:41] That's all it does.

[00:21:42] But like it's,

[00:21:43] it's barely a song like in terms of like a singing song.

[00:21:47] So when it comes to theme songs though,

[00:21:49] like the Pokemon anime had some bangers throughout the years.

[00:21:53] The way I kind of look at it is in the 90s,

[00:21:56] all the theme songs were 80s as fuck.

[00:21:58] In the, the 2000s,

[00:22:00] all the themes were like 90s as fuck.

[00:22:02] And then in like the 2010s,

[00:22:03] they were kind of like 2000s into like where they started just

[00:22:06] using the actual Japanese tracks again.

[00:22:10] So yeah,

[00:22:12] the original theme song though was iconic like the,

[00:22:14] I'm going to be the very best.

[00:22:17] It's like,

[00:22:18] I think like most people,

[00:22:21] I mean at least in our generation can,

[00:22:26] can like hear that,

[00:22:29] like you'd hear the intro and just start singing it.

[00:22:32] Or like you bring up Pokemon and their instinct is to just start singing it.

[00:22:38] Jason Page, the singer,

[00:22:40] he made an entire career off of that song.

[00:22:42] Yeah.

[00:22:44] It's a cool song.

[00:22:46] He famously like one of my favorite,

[00:22:48] like there's been so many remixes and like just like covers of the song.

[00:22:51] Like one of my favorites is,

[00:22:53] there's a YouTuber called Jonathan Young who does a whole lot of like music and stuff.

[00:22:58] He had done a heavy metal cover of the theme

[00:23:02] and he actually got Jason Page to do co-lead vocals on it.

[00:23:05] Aw, that's sick.

[00:23:06] Which is just crazy because it's, it's so funny.

[00:23:09] Like he's like, he's aged significantly,

[00:23:11] but like he still can sing which is really cool.

[00:23:13] He can rock it.

[00:23:15] That's awesome.

[00:23:16] But there was a whole like soundtrack for like the show back in the day,

[00:23:20] like the 2bm master CD I remember and there was like all the,

[00:23:23] all sorts of songs.

[00:23:27] Yeah.

[00:23:28] But I think the smartest thing we should do is we should talk about

[00:23:32] our first real experience with the show and that was,

[00:23:35] we got to talk about the portable VHS player.

[00:23:38] Yes.

[00:23:40] So I feel like it was when we were road tripping to a NASCAR race.

[00:23:46] I feel like that's what we were doing.

[00:23:48] Like, I don't think it was Tennessee.

[00:23:51] It wasn't, it wasn't,

[00:23:54] no, it wasn't Tennessee because Tennessee we did the RV.

[00:23:56] We did the RV and we had DVD by then.

[00:23:59] I want to say it was North Carolina.

[00:24:03] I think it was, yeah, one of the Carolinas.

[00:24:06] But I just remember this thing as being like, it came in a bag.

[00:24:12] And I said to you a couple of pictures,

[00:24:13] I don't know exactly if those were the right ones,

[00:24:16] but I think for the most part,

[00:24:18] It looked about right.

[00:24:20] It was close enough.

[00:24:23] But like, I remember it was in this bag and it was super long

[00:24:27] and the screen was not very big.

[00:24:30] But I remember we had a couple of VHSs and one of them was Pokemon

[00:24:35] and it had a couple of Pokemon episodes.

[00:24:38] It came, so it came with a bunch of DVDs too.

[00:24:40] Okay, that's what.

[00:24:41] And so the thing to picture this like this.

[00:24:44] VHS, VHS, not DVDs.

[00:24:47] Yeah.

[00:24:48] This, so this, the race we went to was in 2001.

[00:24:52] Post 9-11, I remember,

[00:24:55] because I remember going through New York,

[00:24:56] you could still see the smoke.

[00:25:00] Yeah, that was a time.

[00:25:03] But I remember this thing because it was long

[00:25:07] and had these straps that would wrap around the car seats.

[00:25:12] And it would be awkwardly propped up

[00:25:15] and it was kind of like a portable before,

[00:25:17] this is before portable DVD players.

[00:25:19] So it was kind of like a...

[00:25:19] Well, this was before DVDs.

[00:25:21] No, DVDs were a thing, but they weren't...

[00:25:23] We did not have a DVD player.

[00:25:25] We had a VHS.

[00:25:26] Well, no, we technically had a DVD player

[00:25:28] because we had a PS2 at the house.

[00:25:30] No, I think this was very early.

[00:25:33] Like, I don't think we...

[00:25:34] Because I remember we had our giant teletubbies.

[00:25:37] No, no, no.

[00:25:38] We ruffled with us.

[00:25:39] We didn't have a PS2 ourselves, but Dad had one.

[00:25:44] Yeah, but we weren't watching DVD.

[00:25:46] Like this is all, we only had VHS at this point.

[00:25:49] Yeah.

[00:25:50] But yeah, the thing was huge

[00:25:52] and I remember, because tiny little screen,

[00:25:54] like the majority of the thing was because of the VCR.

[00:25:59] Yes.

[00:25:59] But yeah, it came with a couple DVDs and then we brought...

[00:26:03] I mean, not DVDs, VHSes.

[00:26:04] Really?

[00:26:05] We brought a few of our own.

[00:26:08] But I remember vividly,

[00:26:10] it came specifically with this Pokemon sampler tape,

[00:26:14] which had three episodes in particular.

[00:26:17] Yes.

[00:26:18] It had...

[00:26:19] I vividly remember these because these are like permanently...

[00:26:21] Because we watched this thing,

[00:26:22] I think we ended up watching it like three times during the trip.

[00:26:25] Yeah, well, because like we had other stuff,

[00:26:27] but we always went back to the Pokemon one.

[00:26:30] Well, because that was like our first real introduction

[00:26:32] because we hadn't really experienced the show yet.

[00:26:35] No, we definitely hadn't.

[00:26:37] It was really our first introduction to anime.

[00:26:40] Well, I had been watching the Digimon by that point.

[00:26:46] I didn't get it, maybe.

[00:26:47] I don't know.

[00:26:48] You were.

[00:26:49] I was.

[00:26:50] At least this was my first introduction.

[00:26:52] Because I would watch Fox Kids in the morning

[00:26:54] and it was Power Rangers and Digimon every day.

[00:26:57] I was watching PBS Kids.

[00:26:58] I was watching Dragon Tales.

[00:27:01] Oh, I got a gift for you.

[00:27:02] No, for Matt.

[00:27:06] But anyways, going back to the thing,

[00:27:08] so the three episodes I vividly remember,

[00:27:10] it was the episode with the Fighting Pokemon tournament

[00:27:14] where it was the one where Ash used his primate

[00:27:20] that he taught randomly earlier on in the series

[00:27:24] and couldn't do anything with.

[00:27:26] He ended up winning the thing with that

[00:27:28] and then he lets it go train

[00:27:30] and we don't see it again for like most of the series.

[00:27:34] Yeah.

[00:27:35] The second.

[00:27:36] Bye primate.

[00:27:38] Yep.

[00:27:38] The second episode was the Grimer Muck episode

[00:27:43] where Ash catches the Muck.

[00:27:45] I remember that one too because it was kind of creep scary.

[00:27:50] Just because the build, it was like a spooky building.

[00:27:53] It was raining and it was much not darker in terms

[00:27:56] like when I say dark, I mean like physically dark

[00:27:58] like the episode was darker.

[00:28:01] So like it as a child, it was a little scary

[00:28:07] but still good.

[00:28:08] I always remember the end of that episode

[00:28:10] because he catches the Muck

[00:28:11] and then he sends it to Professor Oak

[00:28:13] and Professor Oak's like, why'd you send me a Muck?

[00:28:17] He's like, I don't fucking want this.

[00:28:20] And then the final one was the Diglett episode

[00:28:25] with 10 year old Gary Oak and his like posse

[00:28:28] of like adult women that followed him around

[00:28:31] while he drove his fucking car.

[00:28:33] Yeah, and 10 year old.

[00:28:35] I still never, I will never understand that one.

[00:28:38] I mean, I don't even think they were 10 officially in the

[00:28:42] actually maybe in Japan they were a little older

[00:28:44] but I know in the four kids dub they had like hard line

[00:28:46] established them as 10.

[00:28:48] Yeah.

[00:28:49] I mean maybe Gary was 10 and they just fuck it drives a car.

[00:28:54] Yeah, why not?

[00:28:55] He can do it if anyone can do it's Gary.

[00:28:59] Yeah, the Diglett episode I remember was goofy

[00:29:01] because there were just so much rain like weird shit.

[00:29:05] I just remember the gift of the guy in the constructions

[00:29:07] like the construction helmet and the overalls

[00:29:10] just hammering on the diglets repeatedly

[00:29:12] and they keep popping up.

[00:29:17] That one is a good...

[00:29:21] Well, and like one thing that was fun about the anime

[00:29:25] is stuff that they changed that like made no sense.

[00:29:30] Like I think a lot of people know about the jelly donut.

[00:29:34] I caught a donut jelly filled donuts

[00:29:38] and it's like for years.

[00:29:39] For years I thought that's what Japanese donuts were.

[00:29:43] Nope.

[00:29:44] Until you grow up and you realize wait a minute.

[00:29:47] Wait a minute.

[00:29:49] That's not right.

[00:29:50] Oh my God.

[00:29:54] I found so a picture that someone made of like that jelly filled

[00:29:58] donut scene but they switched the donuts with Brock's face

[00:30:01] and they made Brock the rice ball.

[00:30:04] Yeah, there's been a lot of stuff like that.

[00:30:08] We can also talk about the fact that some of the characters

[00:30:11] haven't aged well.

[00:30:12] No, like Brock.

[00:30:16] Everybody loves Brock but Brock is like if he was a real person

[00:30:20] holy fuck like he would be in fucking jail.

[00:30:23] Yeah, oh especially like he's following around with kids.

[00:30:27] Yeah, he's an adult.

[00:30:28] Stay away from the kids.

[00:30:30] Gym leader hanging out with some 10 year olds

[00:30:32] and hits on everything that just runs off.

[00:30:37] There was some interesting ideas though early on

[00:30:40] like they did kind of like play around with some ideas

[00:30:43] like you go into the forest and like you catch the first thing

[00:30:46] you see which is a bug.

[00:30:47] Yep.

[00:30:48] And then it evolves into the metapod and then you get

[00:30:52] like the you get like the whole funny idea of like

[00:30:55] what would happen if two metapods fought?

[00:30:59] Harden battle.

[00:31:01] And it's like it goes nowhere.

[00:31:04] It's literally this is the joke is them just screaming

[00:31:06] Harden.

[00:31:10] Yeah, like that just it's just a funny thing like that.

[00:31:15] She also had a weird tendency of like giving away his Pokemon

[00:31:20] whenever like things would happen like he gave away

[00:31:22] butterfree he gave away the Pidgeot he had.

[00:31:28] They just let them go.

[00:31:30] It's like alright.

[00:31:31] Like be free.

[00:31:34] Also he gets he gets gifted like almost every badge.

[00:31:38] Yeah, he like does it because he sucks like sucks.

[00:31:43] Like so many of his gym battles are like bullshit like the

[00:31:46] one against Brock he fucking let's set off the sprinklers

[00:31:50] stick to weaken the rock type like like sir I'm going

[00:31:55] to escort you out of the gym for breaking proper.

[00:31:57] Yeah, or he kind of fights Misty early on at her gym.

[00:32:05] I know like some of them like Sabrina's gyms entirely a joke

[00:32:09] like the psychic gym with like the ghost Pokemon.

[00:32:13] Yeah.

[00:32:15] He gets a few of them I know the final gym is like a

[00:32:18] complete joke like that that one is ridiculous how that

[00:32:21] happens.

[00:32:28] One thing I feeling we should especially bring up is the

[00:32:31] band episodes.

[00:32:34] Oh yeah, I mean there was in Japan there wasn't as many but

[00:32:40] in the American dub there was actually quite a few

[00:32:42] band episodes.

[00:32:44] The most good reasons.

[00:32:46] Well the most famous one by far is electric warrior

[00:32:49] Porygon.

[00:32:50] Yep, the potential seizure one.

[00:32:53] The episode that like basically banned Porygon from

[00:32:57] existing in the anime which is hilarious because Porygon

[00:33:00] didn't even cause the explosion it was Pikachu just saying

[00:33:04] but yeah that episode is kind of bizarre like this is

[00:33:07] whole like virtual.

[00:33:07] It was like flashing colors though to like the blue and

[00:33:11] red flashing.

[00:33:12] Yeah they were flashing on screen I've watched the

[00:33:15] episode it's apparently there is a parent there's

[00:33:19] there is

[00:33:22] supposive evidence that four kids did dub the episode and

[00:33:26] they had slowed down like the colors significantly but

[00:33:29] it's still got banned.

[00:33:31] And it probably was for safety.

[00:33:34] Yeah, it's one of those episodes like because apparently

[00:33:36] in Japan like a lot of kids like had seizures and stuff.

[00:33:39] Yeah.

[00:33:42] I've watched it it's

[00:33:44] Yeah, I feel like at some point I mean

[00:33:48] it used to be on YouTube.

[00:33:50] It used to be though.

[00:33:52] I mean like science has got a lot better so maybe we are

[00:33:56] just better at detecting that like the signs that someone

[00:33:59] could be at I'm not a doctor I don't know anything medical

[00:34:02] but maybe just we're much better at catching it and

[00:34:05] preventing it at this point I don't know that

[00:34:08] just don't do seizure inducing activities on TV.

[00:34:12] They've I think they've just adapted away from that because

[00:34:14] they didn't really know back in the day.

[00:34:16] So remember to like with a lot of old anime especially

[00:34:19] Pokemon like they used to like before the episode would

[00:34:22] start you would always get that message that was like

[00:34:24] okay make sure to stand a certain distance away from

[00:34:27] your TV like don't sit right in front of it do you

[00:34:30] remember that?

[00:34:32] Yeah I do because shithead kids would be like

[00:34:34] challenge accepted and they'd say

[00:34:36] Yeah let's get right in the screen yeah.

[00:34:38] That's why a lot of kids have f***ed up eyes.

[00:34:42] And then probably why I have f***ed up eyes.

[00:34:45] See as we pull forward glasses down.

[00:34:48] Another banned episode I think is also kind of equally

[00:34:51] as infamous but for completely opposite reasons.

[00:34:54] This one actually did air in Japan not in America.

[00:34:57] Well the poor you got aired in Japan.

[00:35:00] The poor you got episode aired in Japan like that's

[00:35:03] why the seizures happened.

[00:35:04] Well okay so this one probably aired in other areas

[00:35:08] but it was banned in the US and that was the beauty

[00:35:11] in the beach episode.

[00:35:13] Everybody has seen this episode.

[00:35:16] Or at least you've seen a screenshot of James

[00:35:20] with tits and you're like what the f***.

[00:35:24] The the because James is a very androgynous man

[00:35:27] at times.

[00:35:28] Jesse and James are the main villains they're

[00:35:30] the team Rocket stand in for the show.

[00:35:32] We'll talk about that more in depth later on but

[00:35:36] in this episode they're undercover at the beach

[00:35:38] even though it's very obvious it's them.

[00:35:40] But yeah James is for some reason in a bikini as well

[00:35:45] and he has inflatable boobs and he plays with them.

[00:35:48] Yes well couldn't say they're in a beauty contest

[00:35:52] at the beach and like Misty is competing in it

[00:35:54] and then Jesse and James are in the prize must be

[00:35:57] like some sort of Pokemon or something.

[00:35:59] Yeah but yeah but James James James James James James

[00:36:02] James James

[00:36:05] there's many questionable things about that.

[00:36:08] They, that episode like parts of it aired

[00:36:11] but they cut out the that entire scene.

[00:36:14] I think they spliced a few episodes together.

[00:36:17] Oh yeah it says it was initially banned

[00:36:19] and then they eventually aired it

[00:36:22] but then it disappeared again.

[00:36:24] Well they they they aired it and cut out

[00:36:27] specific arts.

[00:36:29] AKA James.

[00:36:31] Another famous band episode was the the famous

[00:36:35] the episode where he catches like the 40 Tauros

[00:36:39] or 30 Tauros. That one was mostly because

[00:36:42] the owner of the safari zone straight up points a gun at Ash's head

[00:36:47] at one point.

[00:36:50] Well that one was not fucking around.

[00:36:53] It was Japan. It was different time in like the 90s.

[00:36:56] The show started in 97s.

[00:36:59] So it was a very different time.

[00:37:02] I love that the fact that that episode was banned though

[00:37:05] completely fucks the continuity because it's like where the

[00:37:08] fuck did Ash get the 30 Tauros? They just appear.

[00:37:11] He just has them now.

[00:37:13] Because I think that was the whole safari zone episode and he ends up catching all 30 Tauros

[00:37:18] in the safari zone.

[00:37:20] So stupid.

[00:37:22] Those are the three I mostly remember.

[00:37:24] There's also one of Jinx.

[00:37:28] Right, yeah.

[00:37:30] Yeah, because they had to they ended up actually redesigning the Pokemon as well.

[00:37:36] Because I mean let's just face it at first it was

[00:37:40] little racially insensitive.

[00:37:43] I'm just gonna say you know it's not like a Mr.

[00:37:46] Popo situation.

[00:37:48] Like that like I again probably not the best

[00:37:52] choice but I understand that it was representing like a different culture.

[00:37:56] This was just clearly like this is just Japan being Japan.

[00:38:01] Yeah, and unfortunately but it's still like well you can definitely say nowadays

[00:38:06] that the representation of African-American people

[00:38:10] or like black people is much better in anime.

[00:38:15] Like it's more it's not like they're doing like the giant lip thing anymore

[00:38:18] which is just terrible.

[00:38:20] Depending on the show.

[00:38:23] Depending on the show.

[00:38:24] No, but like a lot of shows like have gotten better you know like Hunter Hunter

[00:38:30] like had some really great characters in there and even in Blue Lock they had some

[00:38:34] as well as um as little high-Q they had like good representation it's definitely getting better.

[00:38:41] Japan is still kind of perfect.

[00:38:43] Yeah it's not perfect yet but like if you look at the old design of Jinx like it.

[00:38:48] And you look at like some of the very terrible things we have done in the past.

[00:38:55] I forget what we called it.

[00:38:58] I can't remember the term but it's very similar to that and it's just it was a bad choice.

[00:39:03] So it's good that they one redesigned the character and pulled this episode just

[00:39:08] so we're not promoting that anymore.

[00:39:11] Yeah, I mean it's kind of sad because as kids we wouldn't have even noticed

[00:39:15] like we would have just been like.

[00:39:17] Well yeah like and but that's also because you know we're erased in a good you know.

[00:39:24] Well I'm just speaking I'm just speaking as kids in general most kids wouldn't notice

[00:39:28] unless it was pointed out.

[00:39:30] Yeah, but other people it's not what you know what your kids watch a lot of parents watch you know.

[00:39:37] It just kind of happens that way.

[00:39:39] It looks like there was a couple of other band episodes like I see another one which it says

[00:39:45] it was also banned because there was a slight appearance of Jinx.

[00:39:49] And then another one that has the same thing but actually there was one in the later series

[00:39:55] the Pokemon Sun and Moon series where Ash was wearing dark face paint.

[00:40:01] Which resembled yeah so that got pulled.

[00:40:04] That's a poor choice I'm sure that was edited in post.

[00:40:07] Yeah it was well they pulled the episode.

[00:40:10] Yeah.

[00:40:11] I'm surprised they didn't just edit it.

[00:40:13] Let me go with this.

[00:40:17] Yeah, Pokemon be wild I guess.

[00:40:20] Oh yeah and it looks like there's other ones like because I found this article it looks like

[00:40:24] there's other ones that were banned in other areas that weren't banned in ours like

[00:40:28] South Korea actually has quite a few.

[00:40:32] Well yeah I guess culturally things are different like you'd be amazed how many things are banned in China

[00:40:36] that you'd be like why.

[00:40:38] Oh and it looks like there's actually there's some that were temporarily banned in the United States.

[00:40:44] Like I guess the tentacle tentacle episode.

[00:40:48] Oh yeah the one with that was crushing buildings right around a lot of stuff.

[00:40:52] Oh yeah.

[00:40:55] A lot of things a lot of things.

[00:40:57] All the Tower of Terror.

[00:40:58] Yeah there was a lot of shows that were unintentionally pulled around 9-11.

[00:41:05] For reasons.

[00:41:07] Dang.

[00:41:09] I think early.

[00:41:13] Yeah.

[00:41:15] Yeah Pokemon be wild.

[00:41:17] Pokemon be wild.

[00:41:19] And speaking of Jesse and James though we should talk about them because they are.

[00:41:25] And meow that's right.

[00:41:28] Yeah they are kind of a they're kind of a trio.

[00:41:31] They're essentially the main antagonists for most of the series run.

[00:41:37] They end up being like they're basically the secondary protagonists in a way as the show goes on.

[00:41:44] Yes.

[00:41:45] Do you remember their first appearance where they were like really intimidating for no reason.

[00:41:51] Yep and then you they slowly became idiots because they were always blasting off again.

[00:41:57] Yeah like I remember like.

[00:42:00] I remember Pokemon always hated them too.

[00:42:02] Well no the first two like they're the Ekans in the Copping.

[00:42:06] Well they never hated them but they were just like they sucked.

[00:42:09] They're Ekans in Copping love them because that's one of the most tragic episodes in the series.

[00:42:17] There's an episode there so there's an episode way later down the line where they this is long after Ekans in Copping had evolved into Arbok and Weezing.

[00:42:27] But they encounter it like it's like a Pokemon poacher has a bunch of Ekans in Copping like captured and they end up letting them go to protect the all the younger ones.

[00:42:39] And it's a very tragic and touching episode that a lot of people forget about.

[00:42:45] That's why they don't have them later on the series.

[00:42:49] No but the Pokemon are crying as they're leaving it's like one of the saddest episodes in the series.

[00:42:55] You know what's funny too is that James really did have a record of cross dressing because I'm seeing like a lot of clips it's like there as a bride in a groom and Jesse is the groom and James is the bride.

[00:43:10] Yeah that happens.

[00:43:11] And then like a ballet one it happened a lot but you know what he's living his best life.

[00:43:19] He's a magician and James is the assistant.

[00:43:23] Yeah, which is weird because Jesse was like the fan service character a lot of the times to

[00:43:29] It's a weird weird thing for a kid show.

[00:43:34] Yeah.

[00:43:35] We're so like famous Pokemon too that they had I mean they always had

[00:43:42] Wabafat

[00:43:44] Wabafat and I know at one point he had like a bell sprout or like the big version of the bell sprout.

[00:43:50] Victory bell because it always ate him.

[00:43:54] Well actually the Wabafat was hilarious how they ended up with that one because

[00:44:00] they Jesse had a lick of tongue for a long time and then she ended up getting duped into trading it for the Wabafat

[00:44:08] And that's why she's always miserable with the thing.

[00:44:11] Like I don't want you.

[00:44:12] Oh I found their original team.

[00:44:16] Yep with the lick of tongue.

[00:44:18] Yeah because it was she always had the

[00:44:22] survivor or what was it?

[00:44:24] Well it was it was an Ekans which evolved into an Arbok and then after she let that go she got a survivor later on.

[00:44:32] Yeah because I see the picture of like her with the Arbok the lick of tongue and then James has the coughing in the

[00:44:40] the one I just said that ate him.

[00:44:43] Victory bell.

[00:44:45] He had a whole bunch like he had the Curlia, oh not Curlia, the cactus Pokemon that would hug him all the time.

[00:44:51] The Chimeco for a while, the Mime Junior.

[00:44:55] You know what I will say they always did treat their Pokemains right.

[00:45:00] The ones they had yeah well Jesse didn't like Wabafat very much but um

[00:45:06] Also I love how like as the series went on like then they added more Pokemon like their like intro would just get progressively longer each time.

[00:45:16] Also Meowth was just like his own character most of the time.

[00:45:19] No because he's also the only Pokemon that can talk and none of the other ones can talk well minus me too.

[00:45:26] Yeah oh yeah he's the only one that can talk out of any of them so he's iconic for that reason.

[00:45:33] Yeah their whole gimmick is funny because they're literally they're just there for comic relief most of the time and then when they they inevitably get defeated they just get blasted off into fucking the stratosphere.

[00:45:48] And their poses they had great poses.

[00:45:52] They did and they always would just appear and like the kids would always be like how did we not see you coming and it's like yeah I know how did you not.

[00:46:05] Oh man.

[00:46:07] What was another good thing with them.

[00:46:10] Well I always remember early on to like James had a different voice actor who was like wicked sinister dark and then they changed it to Eric Stewart who just made him a goofball basically.

[00:46:21] Honestly though it fits them so much better than as goofballs it's just it's so much better.

[00:46:28] Yeah I love how like misty would always just parade at like the all the time as well.

[00:46:34] Yeah well I mean Ash deserves it he's a little shit.

[00:46:38] I love how to like ash the reason he ends up with Pikachu is because he shows up late to like Professor Oaks and all the other Pokemon are already taken.

[00:46:45] And he gets the one that like just hates everyone.

[00:46:48] But then he ends up getting all the starters anyways.

[00:46:52] Yes and he gets the best boy.

[00:46:55] Yeah who's such a bull.

[00:46:57] Episode the Bulbasaur Forest in the Bulbasaur song my favorite episode Bulbasaur being a little prick not wanting to evolve.

[00:47:06] No I don't want it.

[00:47:08] Ash that was common with Ash like he'd have like Pokemon that he just keep at base level and never train and then like.

[00:47:16] And then be like why do I suck at battle.

[00:47:19] Yeah.

[00:47:20] I don't train my Pokemon.

[00:47:22] Well he had Charizard and Charizard was a fucking asshole just burn him all the time.

[00:47:27] Because Charizard looked at it like why aren't you training all the other ones like come on be fair.

[00:47:32] They were they were playing off the hole if you get a traded put because the Charizard wasn't his it was he got got it from another trainer.

[00:47:38] And then they were playing up the whole idea of once once it gets too high leveled it won't listen to you because it doesn't respect you and basically that was that they the Charizard didn't respect him anymore.

[00:47:50] And we're just constantly like not listening cause trouble until it finally had its like redemption episode year like a few episodes later.

[00:48:00] Well they just deserved everything that was that was that was that in your hand.

[00:48:07] It's been a drink that I've been drinking this entire episode.

[00:48:10] I didn't see it until just tell me the facts the nutritional facts.

[00:48:22] Anyways though.

[00:48:26] Can you not say one fact please.

[00:48:34] No please just want to just tell us the gallery please.

[00:48:42] I'd rather take my trusty frying pan and turn it into a drying pan.

[00:48:47] No just tell me one fact tell me how many times.

[00:48:52] The joke is stupid. Let's move on.

[00:48:54] No it's not. It's not stupid. It means something to me. Please.

[00:49:00] You've already you're derailing the episode let's move on.

[00:49:03] The episode is always derailed when I'm here.

[00:49:08] Anyways guys thanks so much for watching the gaming.

[00:49:12] We're not even over yet.

[00:49:14] Oh.

[00:49:17] Anyways though.

[00:49:18] Don't you ugh me.

[00:49:23] You chose this except it.

[00:49:33] So eventually they did he does end up going to like the final tournament and like I for like all the series for a long time he would always get to the end and then just lose.

[00:49:43] Yeah cause he sucks.

[00:49:45] Yeah also he had like.

[00:49:47] Worst character slash trainer.

[00:49:49] I suddenly retired him because one he needs to grow up he's been 10 for too long.

[00:49:55] He had five birthdays during the series.

[00:49:57] And how is he not 15.

[00:49:59] Why is he still 10.

[00:50:02] Well I always remember because like the first season ended and then like.

[00:50:06] It doesn't matter.

[00:50:13] But I was member because like the first season ended and then Brock like goes away for a season and then we have this like filler season of like the orange islands where it's just like we're just going to go.

[00:50:22] Around these islands and doing a gym leader challenge that means nothing in the long run.

[00:50:26] Yeah.

[00:50:28] Like because Ash I believe wins like the orange islands season but it doesn't count because it's stupid.

[00:50:36] And they had that new guy Tracy who like followed them around for a while.

[00:50:42] Yeah I don't remember Tracy.

[00:50:45] The only thing I remember from this season is the song because it was Pokemon World.

[00:50:51] I don't remember the song.

[00:50:53] I'm telling you I don't really remember anything past the first season.

[00:50:58] All right.

[00:50:58] But you can continue.

[00:51:02] Well now if you're not going to be able to contribute I'm not going to bother so.

[00:51:05] I just don't really remember like because I don't remember the orange islands like I really just remember that first you know season like I don't know it just wasn't very memorable to me I guess.

[00:51:15] Well you mentioned stuff that happened after the orange islands multiple.

[00:51:19] Oh I did.

[00:51:20] I remember all kind of flow.

[00:51:22] I mean like maybe like Indigo to Jodo and like yeah but like once it gets to like once we get to the neck like when Misty's retired I don't know maybe I just remember bits and pieces but yeah I don't remember anything with May or any of the other ones after that.

[00:51:41] But I remember the band episodes because those are just remember seeing like clips of.

[00:51:47] Well in that case we might as well cap it off by talking about the movie.

[00:51:51] The movie.

[00:51:53] Because the movie was pretty ridiculous.

[00:51:59] I always remember the movie.

[00:52:02] Well they had many a movie but the ones in particular that we remember the most for the first three.

[00:52:09] And I always remember like the first movie in particular because it had like that opening skit.

[00:52:15] It was like the vacation where they're all like all the Pokemon are just chilling and Charles Ard's being a prick and gets his head stuck in a pipe and they have to rescue him.

[00:52:27] I remember the movie though just because it was like really dark like half dies and they're here.

[00:52:32] I always forget like Ash dies.

[00:52:36] Ash dies and their tears bring him back to life.

[00:52:39] I'm sorry I still remember.

[00:52:41] Yeah because he comes like becomes like stone or something right.

[00:52:45] Yeah honestly they should have just left it that killed them off and made a new one of my favorite jokes someone mentioned.

[00:52:51] It was like a commentary of the fan commentary of the film I was watching like years ago and my favorite joke and that was like something was like I don't know what's said or the fact that they're crying that he's dead or the fact that their tears.

[00:53:02] They're back to life.

[00:53:04] Hey at least no fur and kissed him like in the sonic.

[00:53:09] My favorite is that when he's dead Pikachu just rocks him repeatedly.

[00:53:13] It's like come on wake up you motherfucker.

[00:53:17] I'm hungry.

[00:53:19] Yeah.

[00:53:20] I feel like Miss Pooh my cat has Pikachu vibes.

[00:53:26] Like little shit Pikachu vibes.

[00:53:28] Like I feel like she has that in her baby.

[00:53:32] Maybe maybe a little.

[00:53:37] Oh do you remember the SSN episode where they're on the ship and the ship sinks.

[00:53:43] No I don't remember that.

[00:53:45] That was early on in the series.

[00:53:47] Yeah they get stranded on they have to escape this sunken ship and that was.

[00:53:52] Yeah I remember that.

[00:53:53] That was like the first time that Jesse and James got duped by the Magikarp salesman.

[00:54:01] Because I remember because they have to escape using the Magikarp and then like they get so pissy at it they yell at it that the Magikarp evolves into a Gyarados and tries to fucking kill them.

[00:54:12] Good.

[00:54:14] Good.

[00:54:16] I remember Pokemon 2000 in the movie as well because like you can't forget that one because of the fucking abomination of a CGI like airship that was in that movie.

[00:54:25] CGI at that time was something else.

[00:54:29] Yeah that movie was bizarre especially the fucking boat that they used to get up the mountain that's like the fucking hero of the movie.

[00:54:38] That one was pretty good and then there was a third movie with Entei in the Crystal Castle.

[00:54:45] I remember that one vividly as well.

[00:54:48] Now I remember that one pretty good too.

[00:54:50] I just remember those movies because they would always be on like at school whenever they needed something in the after school program to watch.

[00:54:59] Oh really? I don't remember that.

[00:55:02] You were playing with dolls in the corner because you didn't want to be part of the big group.

[00:55:07] Yeah exactly what I say when I mean I'm an introvert I wanted to be loved the world.

[00:55:13] Yeah.

[00:55:17] Also we were in different grades so like you weren't always there.

[00:55:20] Yeah that is true.

[00:55:22] Yeah.

[00:55:24] I can't believe how long it's been out too.

[00:55:29] It's still going.

[00:55:30] Like it's still going and it's I mean now it's...

[00:55:35] Exclusively in Netflix I think now it's not even aired on TV anymore.

[00:55:39] Yeah I mean that makes sense.

[00:55:43] 1294 episodes.

[00:55:45] Wow.

[00:55:46] Yeah.

[00:55:49] That's...

[00:55:49] I think that's more than one piece.

[00:55:52] Which is why I won't be going back and rewatching Pokemon at any point.

[00:55:57] True.

[00:55:57] Well in Horizons is a whole new cast right?

[00:56:00] Like they finally retired Ash which I mean good.

[00:56:05] He's been 10 for too long he needs to grow up.

[00:56:09] Well Ash finally won the Pokemon Championship like at the end.

[00:56:13] Oh.

[00:56:16] I just thought it was hilarious because they like they show the crowd cheering for him

[00:56:20] and literally like out of all his companions he's made over the years the only one that came was fucking Don.

[00:56:26] No one else came.

[00:56:28] Everyone else is like fuck Tard finally did it well too bad or they were like oh this kid's gonna fail again.

[00:56:35] Also like Ash's design over the years got so fucking weird like he got super animated towards the end.

[00:56:42] I want to look yeah.

[00:56:43] I want to look at...

[00:56:45] Well I mean style has significantly changed since the 90s when this came out.

[00:56:53] I mean an animation quality as well has gotten much better.

[00:57:01] I kind of want to see though.

[00:57:02] Oh here we go this is a nice little...

[00:57:04] I hate when it does that.

[00:57:06] There we go like his original...

[00:57:07] Well I mean his design up until like I'm looking at like 2013 is when his eyes changed and then he got kind of weird looking.

[00:57:22] Well he had the same original design up until like the advanced era where they when he went to Hoenn.

[00:57:30] Then it would be like they changed his outfit after every cast change.

[00:57:36] Yeah.

[00:57:37] And then black and white he they made his eyes brown despite being black for like the entire series.

[00:57:42] Yeah that's the one where you can clearly see is different.

[00:57:46] And then after that a little one they just decided to make a whole new design.

[00:57:52] Yeah he's a new character now.

[00:57:55] His facial structure is completely different.

[00:57:58] I like this comment on Reddit where it's like man there was an 11 year period where he just didn't move at all.

[00:58:04] And to me I'm like well he didn't age either so that makes sense.

[00:58:08] Yeah.

[00:58:08] He's still 10.

[00:58:11] Yeah it's just bizarre like I never...

[00:58:15] The logic of Pokemon like it's the way that they're trying to justify it all those series like he explored all those regions in one year.

[00:58:27] That totally happened.

[00:58:28] Yeah that very much makes sense.

[00:58:31] A child with no money no job is able to travel the world at zero cost.

[00:58:36] Yeah the Pokemon universe never has made sense in that way like...

[00:58:41] I mean granted I think actually one of the later seasons he actually ends up going to school because they do like a school thing.

[00:58:48] I think Sword and Shield they kind of tried to do that.

[00:58:53] There was a CGI ash I hate that.

[00:58:56] That was a one-off movie.

[00:58:57] That's very gross no wonder it's what only why didn't make Bulbasaur look so grumpy?

[00:59:04] Because he's tired of Ash's shit.

[00:59:06] He looks so mad.

[00:59:09] I mean if you were Ash's Pokemon wouldn't you be mad?

[00:59:13] Wait just look at this I mean yes especially if I was a Bulb...

[00:59:17] But look how pissed Bulbasaur looks.

[00:59:21] He's just done with Ash's shit.

[00:59:24] He looks pissed.

[00:59:25] He's pissed.

[00:59:29] That was funny.

[00:59:31] Sorry I've never seen that before.

[00:59:35] Oh my god there's somethings that they didn't need to do that.

[00:59:39] I still think the funniest thing is like how many people stopped watching the show after like they like stopped having Brock appear.

[00:59:48] Like how many people just be like it's not funny anymore.

[00:59:51] Brock did make the show.

[00:59:56] He was like a lot of one-liners.

[00:59:58] He was also a fucking weirdo.

[01:00:00] Crazy?

[01:00:02] Also the running joke too with the Officer Jennings and the Nurse Joys and others just millions of them.

[01:00:08] Oh yeah they're just clones everywhere.

[01:00:12] That was always funny.

[01:00:16] Also the one thing I hated about the leader seasons was like they started this like weird thing with like anytime he went to a new region after Jodo where Ash would be like I'm going to get rid of all my Pokemon and start over fresh.

[01:00:28] You dumbass.

[01:00:29] This is why you suck.

[01:00:31] Come on don't obey it in your friends please.

[01:00:34] They're your friends.

[01:00:35] Treat them right.

[01:00:37] And he'd like occasionally bring one out every now and then it'd be like oh cool a Pokemon and it's like nope.

[01:00:43] It's gone next episode.

[01:00:46] Blah blah blah.

[01:00:48] Yeah there was definitely some choices that were good choices and then there was definitely some bad choices.

[01:00:58] Like I don't know if it was Pokemon made but oh well.

[01:01:00] I love the scene there's a scene in the Hoan era where they're in the middle of they're in the middle of a desert and they're like they're out of water and they're like what are we going to do and everyone's like they have like five water Pokemon.

[01:01:15] It's like you dumbasses you're surrounded by water.

[01:01:19] Yeah but I mean where does the water come from?

[01:01:23] It's not important.

[01:01:24] But it is.

[01:01:25] Is it coming from the Pokemon?

[01:01:28] Is it pee?

[01:01:30] Would you rather die of dehydration or drink some Pokemon water?

[01:01:36] I thought yes.

[01:01:39] It's a real question.

[01:01:41] Do you think minions would be like Pokemon?

[01:01:46] I don't know.

[01:01:47] Like do you think you can put a minion in a Pokeball?

[01:01:51] Oh I also remember like when Toki would.

[01:01:52] Why aren't you answering?

[01:01:58] I'm just thinking of that goddamn Smosh clip of like if Pokemon were real and they opened the Pokemon it's a crushed Pikachu inside.

[01:02:06] And I was like that's fucked.

[01:02:08] Do you remember the Pokemon toys that were killing kids?

[01:02:12] No.

[01:02:14] There was a thing for a while like so Pokemon has some of the most fucked up like besides the show like stuff like that happened in the real world.

[01:02:25] Like Pokemon toys and then the whole thing was like it was a Pokeball that it would open up and then like there was a Pokemon inside.

[01:02:31] But like there was like four kids that like they got the ball.

[01:02:35] Like it was just big enough that it could perfectly seal over their nose and mouth like they suffered from death.

[01:02:43] That is one thing that toy designers always have to remember.

[01:02:47] A kid will eat it.

[01:02:49] Oh yeah it's just things like that would happen but like it was always connected to like Pokemon.

[01:02:56] Like there was like the satanic panic thing for a while where people thought Pokemon was like the devil.

[01:03:02] Oh also like the what's it called the PETA things too.

[01:03:07] Yeah those are pretty bad.

[01:03:08] Yeah when also back to Pokemon it was like it's a cartoon.

[01:03:13] Well it's an anime calm down.

[01:03:16] Also do you remember the early Pokemon where there was like regular animals and then they just kind of stopped appearing after a while.

[01:03:22] I mean it didn't really make sense you know in terms of the universe.

[01:03:27] Like do you have Pokemon or you have regular animals figure it out.

[01:03:32] Because I mean there was like a dog early on and then they just kind of forgot about that.

[01:03:37] No.

[01:03:39] Because then you've got like just dog Pokemon you know.

[01:03:43] Yeah like they would they've got to phase that out later on.

[01:03:47] Like I always remember too like when Misty gets the togapi for the first time because I remember they find Ash finds the egg and then they just steal it from him.

[01:03:56] They're like no it's mine now and he's like hey and then Misty ends up with it because it thinks it's it thinks that she's its mama.

[01:04:07] Yes and then comes her little caring curse for the rest of the show.

[01:04:11] Until it evolves and she has to let it go.

[01:04:14] Be free.

[01:04:17] Be free.

[01:04:20] Anything else major on the show?

[01:04:30] That's a no.

[01:04:33] Tired.

[01:04:33] I got the tired.

[01:04:36] I mean that's nothing new.

[01:04:38] But seriously though do you think a minion could quantify as a Pokemon?

[01:04:43] I'm sure you could shove one in a Pokeball it probably will die but that won't be a loss.

[01:04:47] I don't want it to die I just want my minion.

[01:04:50] I want a minion.

[01:04:52] I want a minion.

[01:04:54] But yes Pokemon anime a big part of our childhood.

[01:04:58] Yes.

[01:05:00] Still going.

[01:05:02] Yes still going to this very day.

[01:05:05] With the new protagonist who won't be 10 hopefully forever.

[01:05:09] There's two protagonist now I think there's a guy a boy and a girl.

[01:05:13] I have not.

[01:05:16] I just remember seeing it everywhere like oh my god they're finally retiring Ash.

[01:05:21] Ash.

[01:05:22] I have no interest in watching Pokemon ever again if I ever do it's going to be the old stuff.

[01:05:28] No same like if I ever go back it will be the stuff we grew up with on the VHS player.

[01:05:35] Yeah like literally I stopped watching at the end of Diamond and Pearl and then that's kind of just where I fell off so.

[01:05:41] Yeah.

[01:05:43] That was pretty common for most people.

[01:05:46] Well everyone just Pokemon burnout is a real thing and everyone kind of goes through it at one point or another.

[01:05:51] Yeah.

[01:05:54] But yeah so that was Pokemon not much to say.
