[00:00:35] Welcome back everybody to another episode of the Friday Night Gamecast, a dedicated video game podcast where two best friends come together to celebrate the games and bring you industry news, game impressions, reviews, and more. I'm your host Nick and I'm joined as always by the one, the only, William.
[00:00:50] Yes sir, yes sir. How's it going Sir Nicholas? Happy Sunday.
[00:00:54] Happy Sunday! Happy Sunday. We're back. It's spooky season. Things are going well. Things are going really well.
[00:01:00] And I am really excited for the show that we have prepared for everybody today. This is Spooktober 24.
[00:01:08] This is an annual topic that you and I always try to do every year to talk about our favorite spooky games. This is one of our favorite seasons.
[00:01:15] Just in general, you know, it's Halloween. It's the vibes right now. So we want to go ahead and jump in there. How are you? What's been going on with you, man?
[00:01:21] Been going good. Just work is work. Just getting through the fun open enrollment season for HR. If anybody is in HR out there, then yeah, it's just plugging along until next year.
[00:01:30] My heart goes out to you.
[00:01:31] It's a lot. It's a lot. But hey, it's got to get done. Work got to get done.
[00:01:35] It's got to get done one way or another.
[00:01:36] I got to keep on cooking.
[00:01:37] That's right. And speaking of cooking, we'd like to go ahead and thank all of our wonderful patrons that help us cook on a daily basis while we're out here.
[00:01:45] So a huge thank you to all of the amazing people that support the show.
[00:01:48] Lady Blake Plox, YA Pierberg, Dave Jackson, The Intergalactic Pinecone, Fabulous Buriana, Chris Ware, Eric Guess, Rick Firestone, Chris Van Avala Consul, David C. and JD.
[00:01:58] Y'all are amazing. And thank you again so much.
[00:02:00] Thank you.
[00:02:01] If you want to be like them, please head to patreon.com slash Friday Night Gamecast.
[00:02:05] And you can also help support the show.
[00:02:08] So a little bit of housekeeping for everybody today.
[00:02:11] This is something that, you know, we just did a really fun episode with Aaron and Jerry of the Super Pod Saga.
[00:02:17] As of the date that this recording is going to be out and live for everybody to listen to, that's going to be up on their show.
[00:02:23] So make sure to go to Super Pod Saga and check them out.
[00:02:26] We're also a part of the Super Pod Network.
[00:02:29] So if you just go to superpod.com, you can see a bunch of our fellow podcasts that are in there.
[00:02:34] A lot of people you've seen on the show are there.
[00:02:36] There's a lot of people that you might listen to that, you know, we haven't featured yet as well.
[00:02:41] But yeah, so go ahead and head on over to superpod.com, superpodnetwork.com and join their Discord server as well.
[00:02:48] We want to make sure that the Discord is popping.
[00:02:50] So anyway, shout out to the boys, Aaron and Jerry, y'all are amazing.
[00:02:54] I have not written in the news right now because nobody wants to hear about God of War Ragnarok Riders leaving.
[00:03:00] Nobody gives a flip about Shatterspace fucking flopping on the ground like a wet fish.
[00:03:06] You know, nobody cares about Jason Schreier's new book, okay?
[00:03:09] Wait, wait, hold on.
[00:03:09] Jason Schreier has a new book?
[00:03:10] Yeah, he does.
[00:03:11] Wait, wait, hold on.
[00:03:11] Let's talk about that.
[00:03:12] No, I'm joking.
[00:03:14] Yeah, he's making enemies at Blizzard real hard.
[00:03:16] Left and right.
[00:03:17] Yeah, go shout out to Jason Schreier.
[00:03:21] Shout out to the journalist.
[00:03:23] To the real journalist.
[00:03:24] The one true journalist.
[00:03:26] He's the king.
[00:03:26] He's got his crown on.
[00:03:28] He's holding tight to it.
[00:03:29] Uneasy as the head, right?
[00:03:31] So let's go ahead and jump into our gaming updates.
[00:03:34] It's been a long time.
[00:03:36] It's been a long time since we actually have had the chance to jump in and talk about this specific thing, this topic.
[00:03:43] Gaming updates, what you've been playing.
[00:03:45] So, Will, I want you to jump in here and share with us.
[00:03:47] What have you been going on that's outside?
[00:03:49] What have you been gaming outside of the Spooktober games?
[00:03:52] Outside of the spookiness, outside of the scariness.
[00:03:54] Well, I've been a couple of things, a little bit of a demo, a little bit of a game.
[00:03:57] And then, of course, the one, the only, Dragon Ball.
[00:04:00] So starting there, I've been playing some Sparking Zero.
[00:04:03] And honestly, that game is awesome.
[00:04:05] It is incredible.
[00:04:06] Yeah, it is.
[00:04:06] I feel bad because I honestly need to play more of it.
[00:04:09] Like, I don't have enough time to dedicate to what I want to do.
[00:04:12] But when I can actually sit down, play through some of the story missions, get online and kind of mix it up with some of the players.
[00:04:20] Because I'm not trying to get bodied, right?
[00:04:22] You're not trying to get bodied.
[00:04:23] I'm not trying to catch a body out there.
[00:04:25] So you don't want to get bodied by the players that aren't ranked on Dragon Ball?
[00:04:28] Exactly.
[00:04:29] No, I'm not trying to catch a body.
[00:04:30] No, thank you.
[00:04:31] Did you play at it at all?
[00:04:31] I played ranked.
[00:04:32] How was that?
[00:04:33] Just terrible.
[00:04:34] An awful experience.
[00:04:36] So it's weird, right?
[00:04:37] Because people set up rooms in the game.
[00:04:39] And they can set up rooms of like four, two, six.
[00:04:43] So it's like you have to go in there and just like go do matchmaking.
[00:04:46] And then you select a room that has people in it.
[00:04:49] And then so a lot of some of these people know each other.
[00:04:50] Some of them don't.
[00:04:51] But it's always like, oh my god.
[00:04:53] Because the person who gets to continue playing every match is the person that has a win streak.
[00:04:59] Like so you see this guy with like I loaded in a room with a guy that had like a 15 like win streak.
[00:05:06] Like now I'm good.
[00:05:06] 15 game win streak.
[00:05:08] And I jumped in there.
[00:05:08] I was like, oh, he can't be that good, right?
[00:05:10] He can't be that good.
[00:05:11] He annihilated me with like evil boo.
[00:05:14] Oh, evil boo.
[00:05:15] And I was like ultra instinct Goku.
[00:05:19] Goku.
[00:05:20] That's rough.
[00:05:21] It was really rough.
[00:05:22] You're those guys.
[00:05:23] It was really rough.
[00:05:23] You pop up there with a Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta.
[00:05:25] Yeah, no.
[00:05:26] And somebody else's Yajirobe.
[00:05:27] Well, I just assumed that if you don't play as those like meta players, you're not going to get wins in ranked.
[00:05:32] So that's what I approached it with.
[00:05:34] So I was like, all right, let me.
[00:05:35] I know a little bit about this Goku.
[00:05:37] Let me jump in there.
[00:05:38] But yeah.
[00:05:38] So you want to avoid that.
[00:05:40] I would not like that as far as my overall fun factor of playing it.
[00:05:45] I want to play through the story mode.
[00:05:46] I want to play a little bit of world tournament and then pretend like ranked does not exist because I don't want to get sweaty.
[00:05:52] I don't want somebody to beat the hell out of me and then call me trash.
[00:05:55] And I'm just like, I just want to have fun with this thing that I've liked since my childhood.
[00:05:59] Yeah.
[00:05:59] I don't even care about their age.
[00:06:00] It could be a grown man.
[00:06:01] I just like don't ruin my childhood by making me get beat up by Yamcha and then call me garbage.
[00:06:07] I'm just like, I'm like Vegeta's not garbage.
[00:06:09] But he's a good man.
[00:06:11] He's a good man.
[00:06:12] He's a family man.
[00:06:13] He's a family man.
[00:06:13] He's more of a family man than Goku is.
[00:06:15] Exactly.
[00:06:17] So been having a good time with Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.
[00:06:19] And of course, young Astro on the track.
[00:06:22] They've been dropping new worlds, like new levels specifically.
[00:06:26] Yeah, you were texting me about that.
[00:06:27] Like little speed levels.
[00:06:28] You haven't tried any of those out yet?
[00:06:29] Not yet.
[00:06:30] Not yet.
[00:06:30] I have it redownloaded onto my console now, but I was just lasered focused.
[00:06:35] He said I was lacking, so he redownloaded it.
[00:06:38] But they're fun.
[00:06:39] They're very cool.
[00:06:39] So if anyone has tried them out, definitely let us know how you like them.
[00:06:42] They have two so far up, and I think they're every week or so dropping a new one.
[00:06:46] Are they adding more platinums to the game with these challenge levels?
[00:06:50] It's not platinum, but they are adding achievements though.
[00:06:53] Achievements.
[00:06:53] Achievements.
[00:06:53] So new trophies.
[00:06:54] Yeah, new trophies.
[00:06:55] And they have new bots.
[00:06:57] So like I've unlocked Eve and the Helldiver bot.
[00:07:00] And then there's another two bots that they dropped recently too.
[00:07:02] But it's cool.
[00:07:03] Copy that.
[00:07:03] Copy that.
[00:07:04] And then outside of Astro, I've been trying out this Rise of the Ronin demo.
[00:07:09] Now everyone said Rise of the Ronin was ass when it came out.
[00:07:11] Not everybody.
[00:07:12] Some people liked it.
[00:07:13] Some people did like it.
[00:07:14] Some people are Team Ninja shills as well.
[00:07:16] Look, they're out there.
[00:07:17] They exist.
[00:07:18] They're valid.
[00:07:19] They're valid.
[00:07:19] I gotta say, after playing Rise of the Ronin demo, it's cheeks.
[00:07:23] It's bad.
[00:07:23] It's not great.
[00:07:24] It's not great.
[00:07:25] What makes it not great?
[00:07:26] It's the worst parts of a Souls-like.
[00:07:30] And specifically, if you've ever played, was it Nioh?
[00:07:33] I believe Nioh?
[00:07:34] Yeah, Nioh.
[00:07:35] Yeah, it gives you vibes like that, which I mean, I think that's also Team Ninja, if
[00:07:38] I'm not mistaken.
[00:07:38] So it makes sense why it's there.
[00:07:40] But it's just, they don't feel good.
[00:07:42] They have a vengeance system that tries to emulate the Souls system of when you get killed
[00:07:47] and you gotta go pick your Souls up.
[00:07:49] But instead of, for example, Star Wars Fallen Order did it too, but you get back to where
[00:07:55] you're at and the person that kills you, you hit them once and then you get your stuff
[00:07:57] back.
[00:07:57] And if you're not strong enough, you can leave.
[00:08:00] The system they have in Rise of the Ronin is you have to do like a critical strike or
[00:08:04] kill them.
[00:08:04] So it's like either you go back and get it back in blood or you lose whatever your souls
[00:08:09] and your items and things are.
[00:08:10] Yeah, it's a little tough.
[00:08:12] That's intense.
[00:08:12] It's a little tough.
[00:08:13] And it's probably just me getting used to the game at first and maybe even fighting some
[00:08:17] people that are a little bit stronger.
[00:08:18] But I felt like it wasn't nearly as responsive as I wanted.
[00:08:22] Interesting.
[00:08:22] And it's almost because it asks you to do quite a few different like buttons and inputs that
[00:08:27] are probably irregular than what you're used to doing when it comes to like, oh, you hit
[00:08:30] the triangle button, which doubles as an attack.
[00:08:33] But it's really supposed to be used as like your parry and your counter spark is what they
[00:08:37] call it.
[00:08:38] So that parries long range weapons and your up close enemy attacks, which you have to time
[00:08:42] it pretty well.
[00:08:43] Like it has to be fairly accurate as far as your time.
[00:08:46] You can't just spam it.
[00:08:47] And they don't telegraph this.
[00:08:48] They do telegraph some, but it's some that they just straight up hit you out of it.
[00:08:53] And you kind of have to know who you're fighting and what they're about to do before.
[00:08:56] Yeah.
[00:08:57] And throw it out there, which also goes against the timing.
[00:08:59] And then they, of course, have their red level attacks that, you know, you're like, oh, I
[00:09:03] can only dodge this, but you can counter spark it, but you can only counter spark it if you
[00:09:07] mess it up and you go to block it, it guard crushes you, knocks you down.
[00:09:11] I don't love the key system, which is their stamina system.
[00:09:13] Yeah.
[00:09:13] It works against the enemies as in you lower their key and then it opens them up to a
[00:09:17] really strong attack.
[00:09:18] Okay.
[00:09:19] Same for you.
[00:09:19] I haven't had anybody do.
[00:09:21] Yeah.
[00:09:21] I haven't seen somebody do a strong attack to me yet, but you attacking lowers your stamina,
[00:09:25] lowers your key and then you getting hit can lower your key.
[00:09:28] So you can get yourself in a situation where you're fighting maybe three enemies and you
[00:09:32] get like key locked.
[00:09:33] Is it?
[00:09:34] And you die.
[00:09:34] Are they trying to make you super aggressive in this game?
[00:09:36] Is that what it is?
[00:09:37] It doesn't feel like it because the counter spark, which is the parry is like such a heavy
[00:09:41] part of it.
[00:09:42] It's almost like you wait for someone to attack.
[00:09:43] You open them up because that does a huge amount of key damage.
[00:09:47] If you parry them, it's almost like a counter punch game.
[00:09:49] So they're doing more of a Sekiro thing than they are.
[00:09:51] It feels like, but in that case you should go play Sekiro.
[00:09:53] Yeah, for sure.
[00:09:54] Because they figured it out.
[00:09:56] And of course they did the classic, you beat enemies or you find items of gear that's
[00:10:00] like plus 1% to your first attack, plus 2% to your stance.
[00:10:08] And it's like giving you these minimal upgrades, just kind of fluff armor pieces.
[00:10:13] At least it does look cool that it is on your character, but no, nothing about Rise of Ronin
[00:10:18] that I played, which I played it for like two hours.
[00:10:20] I wanted to find that diamond in the rough on it.
[00:10:22] Find the fun.
[00:10:23] But no, nothing on it made me want to pay full price and play through the game.
[00:10:28] Two hours is a long time.
[00:10:29] It was.
[00:10:29] It was a long time.
[00:10:30] Chris and Tom would have flushed it.
[00:10:31] They give it an hour.
[00:10:31] Yeah, they flushed it.
[00:10:32] You know, they would have flushed it a long time ago.
[00:10:34] But yeah, that's interesting.
[00:10:35] I've heard things about the Rise of the Ronin.
[00:10:37] And I mean, I haven't heard great things.
[00:10:38] It was interesting because the marketing like pitch from like Team Ninja leading up to
[00:10:42] this, they were like, oh, this game is different from a lot of your Soulsborne games
[00:10:45] because there's going to have a lot of story in this one.
[00:10:48] They wanted to make this a story centric game.
[00:10:50] Did you feel any of that?
[00:10:51] It feels like they are giving you a better story than your average Souls game.
[00:10:54] But everyone that goes into Souls games at this point is not going in for the story.
[00:10:58] So it's like, yeah, that's like trying to, I don't know, you're selling salt to a snail.
[00:11:02] You're like, cool.
[00:11:03] I don't want that.
[00:11:04] I want a quality like fighting product.
[00:11:07] I want something that's, you know, technically sound.
[00:11:10] And Rise of the Ronin is not as technically sound as something as like Elden Ring or Sekiro.
[00:11:14] And like the open world doesn't tick any of your open world boxes at all.
[00:11:17] Well, no, because it's also open world and maybe later on you get a horse or something.
[00:11:21] But it's open world that you're running around on your feet.
[00:11:23] And I was like, we've, you know, we've gotten past that.
[00:11:25] Even Elden Ring is like, dog, here's a horse.
[00:11:27] Like, come on.
[00:11:28] So I'm like running around here with a little sprint button.
[00:11:31] I'm just like, literally falling asleep and going from place to place because it's
[00:11:34] also not super inhabited.
[00:11:36] The enemies are in like pockets.
[00:11:37] Maybe later on they're rooming enemies or something.
[00:11:39] But the areas that I've found so far, you go to a village and there's some enemies there
[00:11:44] that you can fight and you leave.
[00:11:45] And then you run through empty space of like maybe rabbits or like other little game creatures
[00:11:51] that you can pick up.
[00:11:51] You don't even like attack them.
[00:11:52] You press the grab button when you're next to them and they just like automatically pick
[00:11:56] up meat into your pocket.
[00:11:58] Yeah.
[00:11:58] Yeah.
[00:11:59] And then you go to your next village and there's some bad guys.
[00:12:01] So no, it's the open world does not really do it justice because it doesn't feel
[00:12:04] lived in.
[00:12:04] Yeah.
[00:12:05] The game isn't as sound as your other souls likes when it comes to like the fighting and
[00:12:10] your actual interacting with your environment and your world.
[00:12:14] And the story is probably there and it's not terribly voice acted, but it's one of those
[00:12:18] things where you get to make your character so they can only go so far with, you know,
[00:12:22] like the visuals, which are decent.
[00:12:24] And then the voice acting.
[00:12:26] So, you know, you got your created character.
[00:12:27] They always kind of have a little bit of the same face.
[00:12:30] And there's not enough like interesting things going on with the side characters for them
[00:12:34] to like truly carry.
[00:12:35] No, I mean, I'm only two hours in.
[00:12:36] So I also didn't see a ton of the side characters yet.
[00:12:38] But once again, nothing in that game that's made me like, okay, I got to go pay full price
[00:12:42] for this right now.
[00:12:43] If it comes on a PlayStation Plus in a couple of months or next year or something, then
[00:12:47] sure, I'll play more of it.
[00:12:48] Disregard it.
[00:12:49] You have other games.
[00:12:50] I'll play more of it, but it's nothing that I'm going to spend money on right now.
[00:12:54] Yeah.
[00:12:54] We got so many good games in 2024.
[00:12:56] So many.
[00:12:57] Surprisingly amount of good games in 2024.
[00:13:00] Yeah.
[00:13:01] I, you know, same thing as you.
[00:13:03] I've been playing Sparking Zero.
[00:13:05] Loving Sparking Zero.
[00:13:06] We actually reached out to our friend or colleague, Jared, from Play Along Pod.
[00:13:11] And you have to have talked about doing some work with him on that.
[00:13:14] But yeah, no, definitely a huge fan of Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.
[00:13:17] I didn't think I was going to like it as much as I do now.
[00:13:21] It's got a really steep learning curve.
[00:13:23] I feel like there have been things that I have only learned because I sat down and I
[00:13:30] went through every single one of the practice modes.
[00:13:33] You definitely got to.
[00:13:34] Like, that's something that I heard someone say, like, in news coverage of this game,
[00:13:37] like, you got to go through the practice mode.
[00:13:38] I was like, I've played fighting games before.
[00:13:40] I've played the arena.
[00:13:42] I've played the Budokai games before.
[00:13:43] I played Ninja Storm.
[00:13:44] No, no.
[00:13:45] You sit down, go through the entire, like, legendary battle training with Gohan and Piccolo,
[00:13:52] and you will learn everything that you need to know because all of the stuff that's in
[00:13:55] there is very easily applied to what is going on whenever you are going to be fighting people
[00:14:01] in ranked or just fighting your friends in matches and stuff like that.
[00:14:04] Something that you were trying to tell me the first time I played over at your house.
[00:14:08] He was like, yeah, it's just the vanishing.
[00:14:11] It's just R1.
[00:14:12] And I was like, are you sure it's R1?
[00:14:13] It's not like an R1 in a different input.
[00:14:15] It's just, no, you have to get that timing down.
[00:14:18] Frame perfect to do that.
[00:14:20] And it's even crazier because my social media feed, specifically on Instagram,
[00:14:25] has been flooded with Sparking Zero content.
[00:14:28] So I'm seeing these young guys out there that are, like, you know, streamers or influencers
[00:14:32] and stuff, and they're like, all right, let me give you all the tips that you need to
[00:14:34] know so you can run it up in Sparking Zero.
[00:14:37] And they're teaching you how to do the different combos.
[00:14:39] The combos are, like, super intricate, too.
[00:14:41] So something that I also learned from playing in ranked is that people don't use
[00:14:45] super attacks.
[00:14:46] Yeah.
[00:14:46] Not ever.
[00:14:47] People don't ever do that.
[00:14:48] Just straight hands.
[00:14:49] Like, if you're, like, people use those attacks to flex on you.
[00:14:52] That's when you know you're super, like, you've messed up if people are using those attacks.
[00:14:57] You can use them in fighting your friends.
[00:14:58] But everybody literally just goes to hands when it comes to that.
[00:15:02] And so it's, like, knowing how to do the combos, knowing how to do, like, the sway.
[00:15:06] The sonic sway.
[00:15:07] The sonic sway.
[00:15:08] Doing all of that.
[00:15:08] Or knowing how to get your perfect counters, your Z counters.
[00:15:11] Yeah, music counters.
[00:15:12] Important.
[00:15:12] Down is really intense.
[00:15:14] But I love it.
[00:15:15] I love the idea that they have all of these, like, they have everybody from Dragon Ball in
[00:15:19] there.
[00:15:20] From GT to Super.
[00:15:22] Like, all of the different Dragon Ball stuff in there.
[00:15:24] I wouldn't be surprised if they included some of these new characters from Daima as it kind
[00:15:28] of goes on.
[00:15:29] They will.
[00:15:30] Yeah, I eventually will.
[00:15:31] They already have Goku from Daima if you pre-ordered.
[00:15:33] Oh, really?
[00:15:34] Okay.
[00:15:34] And then I think coming up next, they said Vegeta from Daima is coming in.
[00:15:38] Really?
[00:15:38] Yeah.
[00:15:39] Not super happy with Daima.
[00:15:41] Not really super happy with the direction that it's going.
[00:15:43] I mean, I've watched all three episodes.
[00:15:45] Yeah, yeah.
[00:15:45] But after watching this most recent episode, I was like, I'm going to have to let this play
[00:15:49] out and then binge it all because I cannot keep watching this kid shit from week to
[00:15:53] week.
[00:15:54] I need to know that this is leading up to something that's, like, cool.
[00:15:57] Wait, wait, wait.
[00:15:57] Oh, you don't like the kids?
[00:15:58] You don't like the Z kids?
[00:16:00] No.
[00:16:01] You don't like young Master Roshi?
[00:16:02] It feels like they're trying to do the GT thing again.
[00:16:05] And they even made a comment in the show or something like that.
[00:16:07] Like, oh, didn't we do this before?
[00:16:08] Like, didn't they try that beforehand or something?
[00:16:11] And so, yeah, it seems like what it feels like to me, and this is a little, you know,
[00:16:17] sorry, listeners, if you're here for video game content.
[00:16:19] We're talking about anime now.
[00:16:21] Yeah, we switched up.
[00:16:22] But it feels like to me that the creators wanted to do something to honor Akira Toriyama and,
[00:16:27] like, they wanted to bring it back to the Dragon Ball roots.
[00:16:30] And I respect that.
[00:16:31] But, like, I don't know, man.
[00:16:33] Like, there's just something of, like, the new modern anime aesthetics, like the art style
[00:16:37] of what we get in, like, Super, which is, like, some of it's really cool.
[00:16:40] A lot of it is just kind of more copy and paste styled stuff.
[00:16:45] Like, it's not like the character designs they're coming out with outside of maybe Jiren have
[00:16:49] been really, like, compelling to me.
[00:16:51] You know what I mean?
[00:16:52] And I just don't expect there to be that much different or that much changed in Daima.
[00:16:56] So, that's where I sit on that.
[00:16:57] But, yeah, hopefully we get the DLC characters coming into Sparking Zero.
[00:17:00] But, yeah, I haven't been playing much else.
[00:17:04] Except.
[00:17:05] Except.
[00:17:06] Future.
[00:17:06] Game of the year.
[00:17:07] Game of the year.
[00:17:08] Contender.
[00:17:09] Nah.
[00:17:09] Contender.
[00:17:10] Drop the contender.
[00:17:11] Metaphor re-fantasio.
[00:17:13] Play the music right now.
[00:17:15] Play the battle music right now.
[00:17:16] I'm going to do it.
[00:17:17] I'm going to do it.
[00:17:17] I'm going to throw it in the track.
[00:18:31] It's really fucking good, man.
[00:18:32] Yes, sir.
[00:18:33] Studio Zero knew what they were doing with this one.
[00:18:36] I'm really curious to see, like, what you like about this.
[00:18:38] Because as I'm playing through this game, it seems very, like, anti-like plaz.
[00:18:42] As I'm playing through this, I'm like, I can't believe plaz likes this.
[00:18:46] Because this is the most JRP shit, JRPG shit I have ever seen, that I've ever played.
[00:18:51] And I know that the music probably is doing a long way to lift it up.
[00:18:54] The music is big.
[00:18:54] What else is it for you?
[00:18:56] One word.
[00:18:58] Hulkenberg.
[00:19:01] Hulkenberg, Hulkenberg, Hulkenberg.
[00:19:03] So, you've already unlocked her.
[00:19:04] You've met her and done that in the prologue.
[00:19:06] They give you all the really far in the prologue.
[00:19:07] I'm curious as to where the prologue ends.
[00:19:09] I think it ends when you go back into the dungeon where you're fighting the necromancer.
[00:19:15] Okay.
[00:19:16] Because he comes in and he breaks up the, spoilers for anybody who hasn't played the prologue,
[00:19:19] he breaks up the initial thing when the king's face comes out and talks about the rock and all that.
[00:19:23] So then you go and you chase after him.
[00:19:25] You come back out of it after fighting zombie homeboy.
[00:19:28] Yeah.
[00:19:29] And then you're like, you have a couple of days in order to do this.
[00:19:33] But you can go do other stuff if you want to level up first.
[00:19:35] So you go do side things and level up.
[00:19:37] And I'm off in this dungeon right now that's full of, yeah, yeah.
[00:19:41] The one that's full of goblins.
[00:19:42] Yeah.
[00:19:43] Which sucks ass.
[00:19:43] That's easy.
[00:19:45] Shut up.
[00:19:47] It's because I'm making it hard on myself because I'm running a healer.
[00:19:50] I'm running a, not mage.
[00:19:52] Healers are really OP in this game.
[00:19:54] Yeah.
[00:19:54] They're good for when you're fighting the skeletons and stuff,
[00:19:56] but not when you're in there in that specific dungeon where they see a healer and then they enrage.
[00:20:01] Have you leveled up your wisdom at all?
[00:20:04] Yeah.
[00:20:04] I loaded up like twice so I can go do that.
[00:20:06] I guess the only way to do that quest is to get out there.
[00:20:08] Okay.
[00:20:09] If I had to go talk to the homegirl.
[00:20:10] So you have the archetype menu in your star screen.
[00:20:13] Yes.
[00:20:13] So, okay.
[00:20:14] So you could just switch up your archetype.
[00:20:15] Exactly.
[00:20:15] Yeah.
[00:20:15] So that's what I need to do.
[00:20:16] I just need to actually switch it.
[00:20:17] I was muscling through because I like the healer for, I don't know, healing.
[00:20:20] Like it was nice.
[00:20:21] Yeah.
[00:20:22] They also, the Hama spell is really good.
[00:20:23] Yeah.
[00:20:24] So I got to have to check that out, but I'm fighting the end boss of that one.
[00:20:27] I think right now, who's like the Minotaur or Centaur or something like that.
[00:20:29] That was a little bit tough.
[00:20:30] Yeah.
[00:20:31] That's the guy I'm talking about.
[00:20:32] You're like, that's easy.
[00:20:33] I was like, oh, okay.
[00:20:33] Well, whatever.
[00:20:34] I'm over.
[00:20:34] I got fucking three shot because he frenzied and killed the whole party.
[00:20:38] He wiped us.
[00:20:39] So it's like, I just got to switch out of the healer.
[00:20:41] I got bad news for you on this one, Big Mac.
[00:20:43] You're going to have to grind in this game.
[00:20:44] Well, yeah.
[00:20:44] That's the only thing that's been the downside so far is I can already see because it's very JRPG.
[00:20:49] You're sitting there, you're killing your enemies.
[00:20:51] And I was like, okay, cool.
[00:20:52] Some pop up and some don't pop up.
[00:20:53] But then when you leave a room and come back, it normally fills back up to like a degree,
[00:20:58] like maybe half of the enemies that were there come back.
[00:21:00] So I'm just like, okay, you want me to do this a lot.
[00:21:04] Cool.
[00:21:04] No.
[00:21:04] And that's another thing is that like one of the reasons why I was surprised that you stuck
[00:21:09] to it as much as you did because like they're going to ask you to grind like crazy in this
[00:21:13] game.
[00:21:13] Especially because you're leveling up all the different archetypes that you have on each
[00:21:17] character.
[00:21:17] Yeah.
[00:21:17] Like they're to get the prime builds.
[00:21:20] Yeah.
[00:21:20] So I'm just like, okay, it's a big ask.
[00:21:22] Yeah.
[00:21:22] You can go in directions.
[00:21:23] You don't have to do with every character, but it does help to like level up.
[00:21:26] And one of the interesting things is that like with the system with metaphor is that
[00:21:30] they have it to where you can take, like if you've leveled up your archetype to level
[00:21:34] 20, you get mastered.
[00:21:36] Like you can keep that.
[00:21:37] If you like the way that your party loadout is looking, you can keep that.
[00:21:42] And then what will happen is that that will continue to level.
[00:21:44] But instead of going up a point, you'll get what's called a hero's leaf.
[00:21:48] Okay.
[00:21:48] And you can use the hero's leaf on any archetype you don't currently have assigned to your
[00:21:51] character.
[00:21:51] Do I already have some level 20 or you just looked this up already?
[00:21:54] I, so I, uh, what kind of grinded you've been doing?
[00:21:58] I've been grinding.
[00:21:58] I've been grinding.
[00:21:59] I put I on each on Hulkenberg and stroll and, uh, my character Rengoku.
[00:22:05] Rengoku.
[00:22:06] Yeah.
[00:22:07] I have a two level 20 archetypes each for them.
[00:22:10] And then like a couple of other ones that are like 10 and 15 for each as well.
[00:22:14] So yeah, they're so in the dungeon when you're running around and you're trying to get up
[00:22:18] to the necromancer that's at the top, there's an area where, um, there are these two, uh,
[00:22:24] I guess they called them, I don't know if they call them like gems or if they're like
[00:22:27] little like growths, little kind of like, uh, crystals.
[00:22:31] Yeah.
[00:22:31] And they're spawning really hard enemies in front of them.
[00:22:33] Yeah.
[00:22:34] Yeah.
[00:22:34] Yeah.
[00:22:34] So they have a bunch of, um, yeah.
[00:22:36] Crystals that have that spawn the skeletons.
[00:22:39] And so I sat there for like multiple hours and just like, that's why he's not playing the
[00:22:43] game for real.
[00:22:44] That's crazy.
[00:22:45] That's literally how a lot of people are playing the game.
[00:22:48] That's how, that's how a ton of people are playing the game.
[00:22:50] And I ground and I grind it up a little bit in Shadia desert.
[00:22:53] So if you, you know, kind of open it up and you're able to like, you know, traverse through
[00:22:57] the city, meet all the people and stuff, you get a task to go out and go deal with
[00:23:01] like, um, a big monster, big lion snake monster that's out in the desert and you go out there
[00:23:07] and wipe them out.
[00:23:07] And then there's a bunch of worms that are kind of out there that you can farm for XP.
[00:23:11] And, uh, yeah.
[00:23:13] Another thing that's really cool about that though, is, uh, grinding really, really helps
[00:23:16] you a lot because there are items that will completely just like change the game.
[00:23:21] Like there's one item called the phantasmal doll that you can assign to your accessory in
[00:23:25] place of like an igniter and that gives you two actions on your character.
[00:23:30] So like, especially if you're hitting a character's weakness, that could be like four.
[00:23:33] Yeah, exactly.
[00:23:34] So yeah, you can make yourself really OP very quickly.
[00:23:37] But the coolest thing is that whenever you're farming, like I will say that like not a lot
[00:23:42] of it is even farming for XP because you level up pretty slow in this game.
[00:23:46] Like it's not, and I haven't hit the point in this game where there are any like, you know,
[00:23:50] passive or items that like help you level up quicker or help accelerate the pace of your
[00:23:55] leveling, but there are, um, when you're doing that, you're farming a lot of money.
[00:24:00] And then you also farm a lot of, uh, magla, which is a currency that they use in this game
[00:24:04] to help you, uh, kind of, uh, spec into different archetypes.
[00:24:09] And then you can also, there's a guy that's in grand trad that you can exchange the magla
[00:24:14] for money and it's on a one to five exchange rate until idols day.
[00:24:18] And then it's on a one to six.
[00:24:19] So I grounded for like three, maybe four hours, you know, doing like doing the skeleton
[00:24:24] and I had like, you know, 200, 300,000 magla.
[00:24:29] I exchanged 200,000 of that.
[00:24:30] I'm, I'm cooking.
[00:24:31] You know, I was able to, I was able to get all of like the stuff.
[00:24:35] Did you fight the dragon?
[00:24:36] Yeah.
[00:24:37] Okay.
[00:24:37] So you, so you got that special sword and gave it to stroll.
[00:24:39] Yeah.
[00:24:40] Yeah.
[00:24:40] Cause he's really good as that warrior type.
[00:24:42] And so I wanted to make sure he had that dragon sword.
[00:24:44] Exactly.
[00:24:45] So I went and did that.
[00:24:46] They're like, we can sneak around him.
[00:24:47] And I was like, nah, no, thank you.
[00:24:48] Yeah.
[00:24:48] So I went ahead and boxed him and they were like, we can't beat it.
[00:24:50] We can only drive it off.
[00:24:51] And I like, you know, drove it off, AKA beat it super fast.
[00:24:55] And I was like, this wasn't that bad.
[00:24:57] Like why y'all, why y'all tripping right now?
[00:24:58] Come on.
[00:24:59] Come on.
[00:24:59] What's his name?
[00:25:00] Greas.
[00:25:01] Stop tripping.
[00:25:02] What's going on?
[00:25:02] Gramps.
[00:25:03] Come on.
[00:25:03] Gramps.
[00:25:04] That's why you got cooked by the King's magic.
[00:25:09] Gosh.
[00:25:09] Anyway.
[00:25:10] Anywho.
[00:25:11] But yeah, no metaphor is really good.
[00:25:12] To anybody out there who's on the fence.
[00:25:15] I think that like, again, like they, they knew what they were doing by the same thing
[00:25:18] with Final Fantasy 16.
[00:25:20] I mean, 16 landed with me as I'm sure it would land with you if you gave it a chance.
[00:25:25] But he said, no way.
[00:25:27] One day.
[00:25:27] One day.
[00:25:28] 2026.
[00:25:29] 2026 is definitely kind of wild.
[00:25:31] Got to let the year of Grand Theft Auto go by.
[00:25:33] We're going to have to build you a PC in between now and then so you can play it on PC
[00:25:37] and it's going to be epic.
[00:25:39] Incorrect.
[00:25:40] PS5 only.
[00:25:41] PS5 only.
[00:25:41] I need the DualSense.
[00:25:42] He's a PS5 show.
[00:25:43] I need the DualSense feedback.
[00:25:45] That's true.
[00:25:45] We talked about this.
[00:25:46] The feedback is godlike.
[00:25:47] Yeah, the feedback is kind of crazy.
[00:25:49] But yeah.
[00:25:49] So on Metaphor though, I strongly recommend anybody try it just because you can get the
[00:25:56] prologue for free.
[00:25:57] And the prologue I think does a great job of showing you what you're going to be doing
[00:26:00] for the rest of the game.
[00:26:01] Showing you obviously like the beats.
[00:26:04] Like obviously it's very well written.
[00:26:05] As you know, it's very well.
[00:26:07] It's like and it's also like I was not expecting this, but it's like written very like appropriately
[00:26:13] for the time that we're in right now.
[00:26:15] Like a lot of like the core, you know, foundations of like what is happening in the story.
[00:26:20] It's for lack of a better word.
[00:26:22] It's it's kind of an election.
[00:26:23] Yep.
[00:26:24] Is what's happening.
[00:26:25] And there's this dude who is, you know, kind of an infamous blonde guy that people don't
[00:26:30] really like.
[00:26:31] Infamous blonde guy.
[00:26:33] So, you know, I don't know.
[00:26:34] It's just there are definitely some comparisons that you can draw between this game in real
[00:26:38] life and they're handling a lot of the thematic material really well.
[00:26:41] Man, Japan was really looking at the US that closely like write that down, write that down,
[00:26:44] write that down.
[00:26:44] I mean, they look a lot closer than anything.
[00:26:46] That's funny.
[00:26:47] Yeah.
[00:26:47] Which is sad because the only thing I know about Japanese politics is that Shinzo Abe got
[00:26:51] smoked.
[00:26:52] Yo.
[00:26:53] That's so disrespectful.
[00:26:55] I'm sorry.
[00:26:55] Just that he got smoked.
[00:26:56] He was literally assassinated.
[00:26:58] They got my dog.
[00:26:59] They got my dog.
[00:27:00] Rest in peace.
[00:27:01] Pour one out for the homie Abe.
[00:27:02] Oh, God.
[00:27:03] Abe Shinzo.
[00:27:04] But yeah.
[00:27:06] Yeah.
[00:27:06] Again, like, you know, just to circle back on metaphor, this is a strong recommendation
[00:27:10] for me.
[00:27:11] I think that anybody who's played any of the Persona games and enjoy any of the Shin
[00:27:14] Megami Tensei Persona games, you have to play this.
[00:27:16] Like, that's not even a question.
[00:27:19] Even I'm saying that.
[00:27:20] If you like those games.
[00:27:21] For folks who don't traditionally like JRPGs, I would also recommend give this game
[00:27:26] a shot.
[00:27:27] Sure.
[00:27:27] Because there's a lot, like with Persona games, and this is no different, there's a lot
[00:27:31] of, like, Pokemon energy in this to the extent of this being an approachable JRPG that you
[00:27:38] can do.
[00:27:38] That doesn't mean that it doesn't ask a lot of the player.
[00:27:41] It has quite a bit.
[00:27:42] It asks quite a bit of you.
[00:27:44] And you could do a little bit of grinding.
[00:27:46] I don't want you to say that you have to do what I do, because I've seen people online
[00:27:49] that have made it through the game completely.
[00:27:52] Haven't even leveled up the royal virtues.
[00:27:55] And they have like super powerful archetypes in the media through the game.
[00:27:59] So there's ways that you can navigate the systems without having to, you know, do the
[00:28:04] JRPG thing.
[00:28:05] But yeah, huge recommendation.
[00:28:07] But that's all I got for right now, other than the fact that like I got to get on my
[00:28:10] Spark and Zero.
[00:28:10] Spark and Zero game.
[00:28:11] Spark.
[00:28:12] And I got to get on my Astro Bot game.
[00:28:13] Yeah.
[00:28:13] Because yeah, I'm trying to do some speed runs with a boy.
[00:28:16] Yeah, you got to compare yourself to some of mine, because you can see your friends
[00:28:20] times when you beat the challenges.
[00:28:22] Really?
[00:28:22] Shit.
[00:28:22] So far, I was looking at my friends list and no one else had been playing them.
[00:28:24] I'm like, trash.
[00:28:25] Trash.
[00:28:26] I'm waiting for somebody to hop on and challenge me.
[00:28:27] I can't dunk on anybody because I'm so good.
[00:28:29] I was waiting for somebody to have one up there so I could be like, wow.
[00:28:31] I didn't realize you were that slow.
[00:28:32] That's crazy.
[00:28:34] You beat this game for real, right?
[00:28:36] You got a platinum, didn't you?
[00:28:37] Wow.
[00:28:37] I'm surprised.
[00:28:38] They just handed out platinums to anybody.
[00:28:38] They just handed out platinums to anybody.
[00:28:41] Did you even do the challenges?
[00:28:42] Oh, that's right.
[00:28:42] You did it.
[00:28:43] I forgot I did some for you.
[00:28:44] Crazy.
[00:28:45] I'm deleting that.
[00:28:46] I'm deleting that from this show because I did.
[00:28:49] Listeners, I did all of those challenges myself.
[00:28:51] I did all of them myself.
[00:28:53] Anyway, let's go ahead and take a quick break before we get into our topic of the
[00:28:56] show.
[00:28:57] Spooktober 2024.
[00:29:19] Plus, welcome back.
[00:29:22] Yup.
[00:29:22] It's Spooktober 2024.
[00:29:24] So you know what that means.
[00:29:26] We got to talk about some scary, scary games for our listeners this week.
[00:29:30] I have a little bit more to go through than you.
[00:29:32] Mm-hmm.
[00:29:33] And other years, we've talked about general scary games, but now we're going to talk about
[00:29:37] games that we played just to review for this show.
[00:29:40] And it's not going to be a formal review, more of a kickback, laid back, casual reveal.
[00:29:44] What'd you think?
[00:29:44] What'd you like?
[00:29:45] Exactly.
[00:29:46] I'd like you to go first.
[00:29:47] What is going on with your game?
[00:29:48] I mean, you're having me go first.
[00:29:49] Okay.
[00:29:50] Well, for my Spooktober game, I just had one.
[00:29:54] One big-ish one.
[00:29:55] So it had been on my backlog to play for a while.
[00:29:59] And then recently this year, it came out on sale and like the gold edition with extra
[00:30:03] DLC, which I still need to go through.
[00:30:05] And I was like, I'm just going to go ahead and pull the trigger on it.
[00:30:07] So Resident Evil Village is what I've been playing.
[00:30:10] And it's good.
[00:30:11] It's fun.
[00:30:11] It's good.
[00:30:13] It's like I was telling you a little bit earlier, you know, this is Resident Evil World, but
[00:30:16] this is a direct sequel from Seven where you were playing initially as Ethan Winters in
[00:30:21] Louisiana with the Bakers.
[00:30:23] And then now you've moved on.
[00:30:24] You're in witness protection with Mia and your daughter, Rosemary.
[00:30:28] And then suddenly Chris Redfield shows up.
[00:30:32] He claps Mia.
[00:30:33] Like she's sitting there making dinner.
[00:30:35] You just put the baby down.
[00:30:36] You're hanging out, having a good time.
[00:30:37] Spoilers.
[00:30:38] She gets bullet to the shoulder.
[00:30:40] She's like, what?
[00:30:41] And she gets ventilated.
[00:30:44] Whoa, what?
[00:30:45] So that's like five minutes into the game.
[00:30:47] Mia gets completely clapped.
[00:30:50] Chris walks in.
[00:30:51] 10 out of 10 already.
[00:30:51] Ethan, it's not what you think.
[00:30:53] Bops him in the face, knocks him out.
[00:30:55] And then you wake up.
[00:30:56] It's cold.
[00:30:57] It's dark.
[00:30:58] Middle of the night.
[00:30:59] You're in an overturned car.
[00:31:00] And there's a radio that's going on next to you that's like all statically and crackled.
[00:31:04] So of course you continue to walk into the woods just to see if you can finally,
[00:31:07] and you'll get into a clearing, get into an opening.
[00:31:09] When suddenly you come out to the woods and you see in the background a gigantic castle,
[00:31:13] this Eastern European castle overlooking this kind of sleepy looking Eastern European town covered in snow.
[00:31:19] And then that's where Ethan begins his journey into Resident Evil Village,
[00:31:23] aka Resident Evil 8, with Castle Dimitrescu in the background.
[00:31:27] So that's so sick.
[00:31:28] It's awesome.
[00:31:28] It is a really, really cool start.
[00:31:30] A very strong start.
[00:31:32] I really love 7.
[00:31:33] So it was a game where Resident Evil in general for me has been kind of up and down.
[00:31:38] I like the more action-centered versions of the games more than the traditional scary horror savior bullets type of parts.
[00:31:46] So I was looking forward to Village because I hear Village is the equivalent.
[00:31:51] If RE7, which I still liked, is RE2, then Village is more like RE3, where you get the chance to open up,
[00:31:58] you get different guns, you get to shoot, you get to blast things.
[00:32:00] And I was like, I'm always down for that.
[00:32:02] And it definitely paid off.
[00:32:04] Lots of good weapons to use, lots of fun, lots of werewolves and lichens to shoot.
[00:32:08] They got vampires, they got fishmen, they got evil creepy-ass dolls.
[00:32:11] Like, RE Village gives you pretty much everything you're looking for when it comes to this kind of scary atmosphere of October that we're looking for in a video game.
[00:32:20] So it was awesome.
[00:32:21] So a strong contender for October.
[00:32:25] How did Ethan in this game do for you?
[00:32:28] I've heard a lot of people throughout the Resident Evil now.
[00:32:30] Now, Resident Evil is like the most polarizing, contentious franchise that's out there.
[00:32:35] Resident Evil fans are a lot like Star Wars fans.
[00:32:38] They hate their own content.
[00:32:39] They hate their own fandom.
[00:32:40] They hate their own franchise as much as they love it.
[00:32:44] And a lot of people really complain about Ethan Winters just being another copy-and-paste white guy who has like a hand problem.
[00:32:52] I do love the hand problem, though.
[00:32:54] Yeah, he does have hand problems.
[00:32:55] But my thing is that I felt like he, in my playthrough for Seven, and I did play that recently this year, if I'm not mistaken, or the kind of tail end of last year.
[00:33:05] He has a little bit more agency towards the end.
[00:33:08] And he doesn't have that many vocal notes because, of course, he is just a fact.
[00:33:12] It's first person, so he is kind of like the facsimile for the player.
[00:33:16] But at the same time, he has a lot of interesting notes.
[00:33:20] You know that he cares about what he's doing.
[00:33:22] He cared about Nia.
[00:33:22] He cared about where he was trying to go.
[00:33:26] He was trying to do the right thing the entire time.
[00:33:28] And this universe, this world is just kind of playing with him.
[00:33:31] It's just toying with him.
[00:33:32] So did we get more of that?
[00:33:34] That's exactly how I feel.
[00:33:35] So no, you pretty much nailed it there.
[00:33:36] It's like the agency in the voice acting that they do, especially for Ethan.
[00:33:41] Yeah, Ethan, just because you don't get to see his face.
[00:33:44] Even when you get to buy his little character model in the end of the game when you're outside of it, it still has his face covered in the shadow.
[00:33:51] It's supposed to be that character.
[00:33:53] But he is his own person.
[00:33:54] He has his own thing.
[00:33:55] Very much like Shepard back in the day for Mass Effect.
[00:33:58] So I do love that about him.
[00:34:00] But no, that's exactly what you get.
[00:34:02] You get more of Ethan and what he's going through, especially now that he has not Mia to look for, but now it's Rosemary, his daughter.
[00:34:10] He's on the search for her.
[00:34:11] He is 100% adamant about finding her and getting her back home safely, you know, to him as quickly as possible.
[00:34:17] He does not care who's in his way.
[00:34:19] He will talk mad shit to any monster or creature in his face.
[00:34:23] Like this man.
[00:34:25] Don't get me wrong.
[00:34:25] He's no James get it back in blood Sunderland, right?
[00:34:28] He's not a...
[00:34:31] But Ethan holds his own.
[00:34:32] He does his thing.
[00:34:33] He does his thing.
[00:34:34] And he gets into some crazy...
[00:34:35] I mean, it's Resident Evil.
[00:34:36] So you're going to get into craziness.
[00:34:37] You're going to fight giant BOWs.
[00:34:40] You're going to plow through plenty of bad guys here and there.
[00:34:43] So he gets into some real crazy stuff throughout the actual story of it.
[00:34:47] It gets really...
[00:34:47] Especially towards the maybe back third of the game.
[00:34:51] You're getting things like giant mechanical, you know, mech fights.
[00:34:55] And then you're...
[00:34:56] Oh, don't tell me that.
[00:34:57] It's crazy.
[00:34:58] Don't tell me that.
[00:34:58] Don't tell me that.
[00:34:59] No, we're deep in the spoiler territory of something I don't want to know.
[00:35:04] So, but no, that sounds really cool.
[00:35:06] And that sounds up my alley.
[00:35:07] I have a question for you, though.
[00:35:08] A hard-hitting question when it comes to survival horror and everything.
[00:35:12] You know, who has the better find my wife ass fit?
[00:35:16] Alan Wake, Ethan Winters, or James Sunderland?
[00:35:20] Oh, the fits.
[00:35:21] I don't know.
[00:35:22] I don't know.
[00:35:23] I'm going to tell you right now.
[00:35:23] They're all fitted up.
[00:35:24] You know what I mean?
[00:35:25] I'm going to tell you right now.
[00:35:27] Ethan got that shit on, though.
[00:35:28] He got that shit on.
[00:35:32] He really does.
[00:35:34] He put it on.
[00:35:34] Like I mentioned, you got the model.
[00:35:36] He has like, you know, like the brown jacket underneath.
[00:35:37] And I was like, yeah.
[00:35:38] He's got the dead Stomper 9000s.
[00:35:41] He's got sauce.
[00:35:43] Ethan has sauce.
[00:35:44] I think James has juice.
[00:35:46] Okay.
[00:35:46] Ethan has sauce.
[00:35:47] Ethan has sauce.
[00:35:48] Okay.
[00:35:48] And it's like, I'm down with Alan.
[00:35:50] But I mean, he's...
[00:35:50] Nobody fucks with Alan.
[00:35:51] Alan's kind of a twerp.
[00:35:52] Let's not get crazy.
[00:35:53] He's got too many layers.
[00:35:54] He's got too many layers.
[00:35:55] He's got a hoodie and a blazer on top of the hoodie.
[00:36:00] Come on, dog.
[00:36:00] 2000s coded.
[00:36:01] Very 2000s.
[00:36:02] He's 2000s coded.
[00:36:02] Yeah.
[00:36:03] We've graduated.
[00:36:04] But Ethan and James, timeless.
[00:36:05] Timeless.
[00:36:05] Timeless.
[00:36:06] It's a timeless look.
[00:36:07] Everybody just knows you got to get the wife Stomper 9000s.
[00:36:10] The 9000s.
[00:36:12] He's out there ready to cut grass and kick ass.
[00:36:14] Let's go.
[00:36:15] Now, so you told me earlier offline before we started recording that you did three playthroughs
[00:36:21] of Village.
[00:36:22] Is that right?
[00:36:22] Yep.
[00:36:22] I'm on my third right now.
[00:36:23] So you're very close to getting the platinum.
[00:36:25] What do you have left to get the platinum?
[00:36:26] I have to beat the game on the highest difficulty.
[00:36:29] And I have to play some of the crappy mercenaries.
[00:36:31] How hard is the skill check in this game?
[00:36:35] I mean, it's pretty tough.
[00:36:36] But just like your older Resident Evils, you can unlock really strong guns with infinite
[00:36:41] ammo.
[00:36:42] So, I mean, it makes it significantly easier.
[00:36:44] Like, I had to go through House Dimitrescu and the second area of the game with...
[00:36:52] Like an infinite AR, which was nice, but it was still a little scary sometimes.
[00:36:56] And then now I have the infinite magnum and I'm just like plowing through people.
[00:36:59] Okay.
[00:36:59] I'm like boom, blow.
[00:37:00] Got it.
[00:37:00] Boom, blow.
[00:37:01] Bang.
[00:37:01] Bang.
[00:37:02] But still, it's good though.
[00:37:03] Villager Shadows, it's the kind of thing where I can't imagine somebody playing through
[00:37:06] that on a fresh save because it's horrendous.
[00:37:09] Oh, on the hardest difficulty?
[00:37:11] Yeah.
[00:37:11] Like the normal enemies are super fast.
[00:37:13] They all take hella damage.
[00:37:15] Oh, really?
[00:37:16] Like even with my assault rifle, which was infinite, it would be like half a clip to down one guy.
[00:37:21] Whoa.
[00:37:21] Yeah.
[00:37:22] And I was like, uh...
[00:37:24] Are the enemies...
[00:37:25] Do we have like...
[00:37:26] Are there sections of the game where the enemies are pretty dense or are they...
[00:37:29] Yeah.
[00:37:29] Do you have multiple enemies coming at you simultaneously?
[00:37:31] You get quite a few.
[00:37:31] Like four?
[00:37:32] It's regularly where you have like four or six coming kind of at you from different angles.
[00:37:37] Okay.
[00:37:37] So, I mean, that's why it's very action oriented, which I enjoy.
[00:37:40] Yeah.
[00:37:40] It's pushing you towards that kind of RE4 style.
[00:37:43] Yeah.
[00:37:44] Which is awesome.
[00:37:45] Which is neat.
[00:37:45] I wish Ethan did a couple more roundhouses and a few more suplexes, but you know, everybody
[00:37:51] can't be Leon the God.
[00:37:52] Nobody can be, you know, the superhero Leon Kennedy.
[00:37:54] That's what I'm saying.
[00:37:55] Goated.
[00:37:55] Goated with the sauce.
[00:37:57] What?
[00:37:57] So, I know that you had mentioned that you were using the Magnum.
[00:38:00] Is that your go-to weapon?
[00:38:01] Do you have any recommended loadouts?
[00:38:02] No, definitely not the go-to.
[00:38:03] Not the go-to.
[00:38:04] Until you get the infinite ammo because the Magnum ammo is super rare.
[00:38:06] Okay.
[00:38:07] It one shots pretty much every enemy and then, you know, it's like your boss killer.
[00:38:11] So, that's the kind of thing you find the ammo and you save it for when
[00:38:13] you're fighting the bosses.
[00:38:14] Okay, cool.
[00:38:15] But yeah, go-to.
[00:38:16] Shotgun's great.
[00:38:17] Shotgun, okay.
[00:38:17] The standard sniper rifle's great.
[00:38:20] And you end up getting a pistol toward the back end of the game.
[00:38:23] Nice.
[00:38:24] That's really good too.
[00:38:24] Okay.
[00:38:25] That's pretty much it.
[00:38:25] You know, you get your standard Resident Evil Fair shotgun pistol.
[00:38:28] Yeah.
[00:38:29] Rifle.
[00:38:29] That's really it.
[00:38:30] How many?
[00:38:30] And then you get like mines and pipe bombs and explosives.
[00:38:32] Oh, okay.
[00:38:33] So, that kind of even adds to that versatility.
[00:38:35] How many hours would you say first time play through new save?
[00:38:39] I think it took me 15, but you can probably do it in 10 pretty easy by just, you know,
[00:38:44] I was exploring everything and taking my time and backtracking and getting lost, trying to
[00:38:48] find stuff on my own, picking up notes, all that.
[00:38:50] How are the puzzles in this one?
[00:38:51] Are they good?
[00:38:52] They're pretty easy.
[00:38:53] Okay.
[00:38:53] So, they're straightforward.
[00:38:54] Exactly.
[00:38:54] Kind of like seven.
[00:38:55] Yeah.
[00:38:55] I would say they're very much like seven, you know, straightforward.
[00:38:57] Even stuff like you don't have ones in seven, like the shadow puzzles.
[00:39:00] You don't have to worry about those.
[00:39:01] Got it.
[00:39:01] There's a couple that are like a little bit tricky, but nothing is ever really like, wow,
[00:39:05] I'm so stumped on this puzzle right now.
[00:39:07] It's, it's, it's Resident Evil puzzles.
[00:39:09] Okay.
[00:39:09] They're all the same.
[00:39:10] Either you find something that you bring back to an area or you have something that
[00:39:14] you need to like decipher.
[00:39:15] And then there's probably, you know, somebody left a sticky note next to it.
[00:39:18] That's like, it's my birthday.
[00:39:21] So, you go around.
[00:39:22] So, what's the code?
[00:39:23] Yeah.
[00:39:23] You go around the house and you see like a handwritten note from their daughter that's
[00:39:27] like, I love you, daddy.
[00:39:28] Happy birthday.
[00:39:28] And here's the date.
[00:39:29] And you're just like, okay, cool.
[00:39:30] Yeah.
[00:39:30] Boom, boom, boom, boom.
[00:39:31] Gotcha.
[00:39:32] Gotcha.
[00:39:32] Okay.
[00:39:32] So, that's, that's very easy.
[00:39:34] Standard fare.
[00:39:34] Yeah.
[00:39:35] I, come to, come to find out, I realized that the Resident Evil and Silent Hill carry the
[00:39:39] same energy when it comes to their puzzles.
[00:39:41] They do.
[00:39:41] They really do.
[00:39:42] To a certain extent.
[00:39:43] To a certain extent.
[00:39:44] But yeah, that's really fun.
[00:39:45] But no, it's, it's a good time.
[00:39:46] So, I highly recommend if you like seven, continue the, the Ethan Winter storyline and
[00:39:51] definitely pick up and play through eight.
[00:39:53] If you were put off by seven because it was a little bit too scary, then you can still play
[00:39:57] eight because now you get to fight back with a bunch of different weapons and it's a lot
[00:40:01] more daytime.
[00:40:02] You know, the big thing about seven was it took place like over the course of pretty much
[00:40:05] one night and it was all real spooky.
[00:40:07] And you're using that little mag light, like the chest flashlight that Ethan had.
[00:40:12] Yeah.
[00:40:12] It was super dark and scary.
[00:40:13] You had the mold creatures popping out left and right.
[00:40:16] You're mostly just in the daytime.
[00:40:17] You're shooting up.
[00:40:18] Okay.
[00:40:18] So it's, okay.
[00:40:19] So I got the blick on me.
[00:40:21] Exactly.
[00:40:21] Yeah.
[00:40:21] You're saying somebody pops out, you got the shotty.
[00:40:24] But no, it's good.
[00:40:25] I like that.
[00:40:25] Of course, you get hurt.
[00:40:27] You just splash a little bit of aloe vera on your hands.
[00:40:29] Oh yeah.
[00:40:29] Just a little bit.
[00:40:30] Wipe, wipe that down.
[00:40:31] Just dunk a little bit of gasoline on it.
[00:40:33] Easy peasy.
[00:40:33] Rub some dirt in it.
[00:40:35] That's all you gotta do.
[00:40:36] You know, if your hand ever gets cut or something, you know, just stick it back on there.
[00:40:39] Just throw it on.
[00:40:40] What's the problem?
[00:40:41] What's the issue?
[00:40:42] What's the problem?
[00:40:43] Would you say that?
[00:40:44] I know that you mentioned a little bit.
[00:40:46] Would you say the bosses in eight are like at that same level of what you would expect
[00:40:51] from the bosses that encounters that you had in seven?
[00:40:53] I mean, they're better, at least for me in general, the bosses are better as far as their
[00:40:57] mechanics now.
[00:40:58] Okay.
[00:40:58] The Bakers were awesome.
[00:40:59] So yeah.
[00:40:59] Like Jack Baker, for example, the fights we had with him was great.
[00:41:02] Yeah.
[00:41:02] Ma Baker was okay for me.
[00:41:04] Like, I feel like I've had plenty of other better bosses than fighting Ma Baker.
[00:41:07] That was like the little bug.
[00:41:08] Yeah.
[00:41:08] That was a real unfortunate one.
[00:41:09] I didn't like that one.
[00:41:10] And then of course the very end boss, you just shoot it in the face and go to die.
[00:41:13] So I was like, it is what it is.
[00:41:15] So I like the bosses in eight as overall better.
[00:41:18] But of course, you know, Jack is a standout.
[00:41:20] I try to remember if there was another boss in seven that like really stood out to me like
[00:41:24] that.
[00:41:25] Not terribly.
[00:41:26] It wasn't really a boss, but it was more just like the situation.
[00:41:29] It was more about for seven, the like Texas, like chainsaw massacre energy that you get
[00:41:35] from not Jack, but his son.
[00:41:38] Oh, yeah.
[00:41:39] When you're doing the saw games.
[00:41:40] Yeah.
[00:41:40] Yeah.
[00:41:40] It was like the, the, yeah.
[00:41:41] Like the saw room is really cool.
[00:41:43] Yeah.
[00:41:43] Like there's a couple of cool like sections like that in eight as well.
[00:41:45] Like there's plenty of good, good sections in eight that are like that, but the bosses
[00:41:49] are overall stronger.
[00:41:50] I mean, they're more of your traditional, but still over the top, like Resident Evil bosses,
[00:41:55] you know, you got your giant monsters.
[00:41:56] And of course, everyone knows about Lady D walking around the castle, stalking you like
[00:42:00] Nemesis.
[00:42:00] So she's a pursuer.
[00:42:02] Pursuer.
[00:42:02] I mean, yeah, yeah.
[00:42:03] Got it.
[00:42:04] That's, that's intense.
[00:42:05] And, and I know that the voice actress, um, her name's Maggie something.
[00:42:09] I don't remember her full name, but she definitely was really a huge positive influence onto the
[00:42:15] industry when this game first came out.
[00:42:17] And, but the, another question that I had for you about this game is that, you know,
[00:42:23] without, unless, unless it's a spoiler and then you don't have to spoil it for us, but
[00:42:26] like you personally, with the way that this story ended, would you be happy to play as Ethan
[00:42:32] Winters in a Resident Evil nine or?
[00:42:35] Okay.
[00:42:35] Never.
[00:42:36] We're done.
[00:42:36] You're done with Ethan.
[00:42:37] No, no.
[00:42:38] There's even, I think at the beginning, see the beginning or, or maybe as close as the
[00:42:42] end, but yeah.
[00:42:43] And they're like, they're like, nah, the Ethan's he's, you know, he's, he's had his time.
[00:42:47] Like he's good to go.
[00:42:47] He's had his time.
[00:42:48] Look, he's, he's got his two games back to back.
[00:42:49] Not everybody gets two games back to back.
[00:42:51] Let, let the man rest.
[00:42:52] Not every, you're right.
[00:42:53] Not everybody gets their two games, especially not in that universe.
[00:42:56] Especially, no, no.
[00:42:57] Yeah.
[00:42:57] So Brad didn't get two games.
[00:42:59] Yeah.
[00:42:59] Rebecca Chambers didn't get two games.
[00:43:00] They sure didn't.
[00:43:01] You know, shout out, shout out to Brad and Rebecca.
[00:43:03] I love that boy.
[00:43:04] I have, I have that game too on my backlog that I need to play through zero.
[00:43:07] That's going to be really fun.
[00:43:08] Yeah.
[00:43:08] I want to play through Resident Evil remake and zero as well.
[00:43:11] So yeah, there it's definitely on the list, but I gotta, I gotta get through these.
[00:43:15] Yeah.
[00:43:16] Cool.
[00:43:16] So, so no Ethan Winters, maybe new protagonist, maybe alcoholic Leon.
[00:43:21] Alcoholic Leon would be goaded.
[00:43:23] Yo, John Wick Leon.
[00:43:25] John Wick Leon.
[00:43:25] Hold on, hold on.
[00:43:26] Get out of here.
[00:43:27] With the suit, with the suit, with super long hair.
[00:43:29] I don't know about the suit, but maybe just like, if he, he had like a, like a, like
[00:43:34] a black leather jacket.
[00:43:36] You know what I mean?
[00:43:37] You want a leather daddy.
[00:43:38] Yeah.
[00:43:38] Okay.
[00:43:39] Okay.
[00:43:40] Okay.
[00:43:40] You know what I mean.
[00:43:42] I just, I just want the long hair.
[00:43:43] He just needs that long, like the long hair.
[00:43:45] The Alan Wake two hair.
[00:43:46] Alan Wake two hair or, or kind of like, um, like Jared Leto from 30 seconds to Mars.
[00:43:52] There you go.
[00:43:53] You know?
[00:43:53] Not from the Joker.
[00:43:54] Yeah.
[00:43:54] Not from the Joker.
[00:43:55] You don't, I don't know.
[00:43:56] You don't want Leon with a grill.
[00:43:57] Hold on.
[00:43:57] Hold on.
[00:43:58] Let's, let's, let's think about this.
[00:43:59] No, I don't.
[00:44:01] I don't want Leon.
[00:44:02] I don't want Leon with some slugs.
[00:44:04] My man.
[00:44:05] But no, that's, that's been everything on my end though.
[00:44:07] Resident Evil Village has been the, the big deal.
[00:44:08] And I'm going to get into the DLC a little bit later on too.
[00:44:11] So I'm excited for that one.
[00:44:12] What is the DLC?
[00:44:13] Do you play as, as Rosemary?
[00:44:15] Is that what it is?
[00:44:16] Oh, hell yeah.
[00:44:16] You sure do.
[00:44:17] Let's go.
[00:44:17] Play as a grown up Rosemary.
[00:44:19] So it's going to be exciting.
[00:44:20] It's very, very cool.
[00:44:24] A game, which by favorite, I mean, I hate it a lot, but it's the weeping angel mannequins.
[00:44:28] Yeah.
[00:44:28] Where you look away from them and you hear behind you, crick, crick, crick, crick, crick.
[00:44:33] And then you turn around and it's right behind you.
[00:44:35] And like, oh, I hate those.
[00:44:36] I'm going to die.
[00:44:38] I'm going to talk about those very shortly.
[00:44:39] Mm-hmm.
[00:44:40] Mm-hmm.
[00:44:41] So what you been getting into?
[00:44:43] So Spooktober 2024, I had a lot of grand ambitions to play all kinds of spooky games.
[00:44:49] Notably, I was going to try and play Devotion, which was a first person kind of like cerebral
[00:44:56] horror game, more of kind of an environmental, very close, very similar to Still Wakes the
[00:45:02] Deep, where you're kind of just moving through environments, that sort of thing.
[00:45:05] But it's about, it's made about this Taiwan family.
[00:45:09] And you can only get it on Red to Candle Games.
[00:45:12] But I still like, it's still October, so I still want to try and boot it up and play
[00:45:16] a little bit of it before we kind of move on into the holiday season and continue with
[00:45:20] metaphor.
[00:45:21] But yeah, I ended up being able to beat Little Nightmares 1 and Little Nightmares 2, as well
[00:45:27] as Silent Hill 2, to specifically talk about those games with you on the pod today.
[00:45:31] And thankfully, you've played both Little Nightmares 1 and 2, so we can kind of have a good back
[00:45:35] and forth on that.
[00:45:36] But yeah, straight off the top, Little Nightmares 1 and 2, kind of like, I'm surprised
[00:45:42] they do sell those as a package.
[00:45:43] You can sell those individually.
[00:45:44] I'm surprised that they haven't come out with like a remaster at this point, where it's
[00:45:47] like both the games back to back.
[00:45:49] Because I feel like they-
[00:45:50] Oh, well, you're playing them all together.
[00:45:51] Gotcha, gotcha.
[00:45:51] Yeah, where you play kind of like, yeah, definitely like loading into either one or the other,
[00:45:57] and just one disc, one application, whatever the case may be.
[00:46:01] But yeah, both games are really, really good.
[00:46:03] I was so surprised, man.
[00:46:04] I was so surprised.
[00:46:05] And I shouldn't have been.
[00:46:06] I mean, I know that you had talked about it.
[00:46:08] I was saying.
[00:46:08] I'm telling you, if you're like Inside, if you're like Limbo, this is the kind of game for you.
[00:46:11] That's the game.
[00:46:12] There was that.
[00:46:13] And then also we had our good friend Logan come on in season one, and he had nothing
[00:46:18] to talk about, but Little Nightmares 1 and 2.
[00:46:20] He had a lot to talk about, but he definitely focused on those games with how good they
[00:46:24] are.
[00:46:24] And I've been speaking with him a little bit back and forth.
[00:46:26] We're probably going to talk some more about it tonight.
[00:46:28] But yeah, like these games do a lot.
[00:46:31] So there's no voice acting in Little Nightmares 1 and 2.
[00:46:34] And kind of just set the tone for the listeners.
[00:46:36] This is a dark fantasy world called Nowhere.
[00:46:38] And in the first game, you play as the main character Six, who is just this little girl
[00:46:44] who is in a little yellow raincoat.
[00:46:48] And she has to navigate this world that is much larger than her and much scarier than anybody
[00:46:58] would ever want a child her age to have to navigate.
[00:47:01] And it is terrifying.
[00:47:03] It's dark.
[00:47:05] The humans here aren't quite humans.
[00:47:08] They're kind of like amalgamations of like, they're like grotesque caricatures of what
[00:47:14] you would expect a human to be.
[00:47:15] Closer to kind of like pigs than humans a lot of the times.
[00:47:19] Or like there are other just like grotesque distorted versions of humans.
[00:47:25] It's very Tim Burton vibes.
[00:47:26] It's incredibly Tim Burton.
[00:47:28] And yeah, to come to find out like both of these games developed by Tarsier Studios.
[00:47:33] Tarsier is actually a European developer.
[00:47:35] For the longest time, I thought this was a Japanese-led team.
[00:47:38] They're a European team.
[00:47:40] I don't know specifically where.
[00:47:42] But yeah, Tarsier Studios.
[00:47:44] And it makes perfect sense because both of these games carry a lot of that energy of
[00:47:49] kind of like a classic Eastern European folklore fairy tale that always has an incredibly
[00:47:55] dark ending.
[00:47:56] There's lots of whimsical moments, but then like there's like overwhelmingly just more
[00:48:01] darkness than anything.
[00:48:02] It ends up being more grim than anything else, which is awesome, which is really good.
[00:48:06] And it kind of makes it a perfect conversation for, you know, Spooktober 24.
[00:48:11] I kind of, you know, want to jump in here and just start talking about like highlight moments.
[00:48:16] So if you haven't played Little Nightmares 1 and 2, I recommend you, you know, skip forward
[00:48:20] to Silent Hill, which I'll put a marker in the episode for.
[00:48:23] Or alternatively, just go play those games and come back and listen to the rest of this
[00:48:27] episode.
[00:48:28] But yeah, Little Nightmares 1 was intense.
[00:48:31] Yeah, very.
[00:48:32] How long did it take you to realize that 6 was not particularly...
[00:48:38] It was the scene with the gnome.
[00:48:39] It was the scene.
[00:48:40] Yeah.
[00:48:40] It seemed when...
[00:48:41] When it happened, I was like, oh.
[00:48:42] Yeah.
[00:48:43] I like she a little hungry, hungry hippo.
[00:48:44] She's a...
[00:48:45] Yeah.
[00:48:45] And it's interesting.
[00:48:46] And so you told me something that was super fascinating about this game that kind of reshaped
[00:48:53] or recontextualized my understanding of how to like analyze it.
[00:48:56] And is that originally like this game is called Little Nightmares 1.
[00:48:59] And I think you told me the original title was Hunger.
[00:49:02] Yeah.
[00:49:02] And I think when they realized they had something bigger on their hands than just one game, they
[00:49:06] decided to call it Little Nightmares, which was really, really cool.
[00:49:10] But Hunger is such a really apt description of this game.
[00:49:14] Like throughout the game, you're kind of playing a 6 and you're trying to escape.
[00:49:19] You're in this world.
[00:49:20] You don't even know where you are.
[00:49:22] You're in this massive, you know...
[00:49:24] It's like a big ship.
[00:49:25] It is a ship.
[00:49:27] It is.
[00:49:27] You find out later as you're going through, it's a big ship.
[00:49:29] But you don't know it's a ship until way later.
[00:49:32] And there's a moment where she climbs out on the exterior of the ship and she's going
[00:49:35] up and she sees another boat that's like docking.
[00:49:38] And it's not really a ship.
[00:49:40] It's more of like a hub that's like floating out in the middle of the ocean called the
[00:49:44] Mall is the name of this place that she's in.
[00:49:47] Another mouth line, yeah.
[00:49:49] Yeah.
[00:49:49] Yeah.
[00:49:49] It's incredible.
[00:49:51] But like as she's going through the mall, as she's escaping from all of these enemies
[00:49:54] and it really is just kind of like the mechanics of this game, just platforming
[00:49:59] horror is all it is.
[00:50:00] It's just you're avoiding the enemies from seeing you.
[00:50:03] You're finding little secrets here and there.
[00:50:05] There are little gnomes in this game that run around the world and you can pick them up
[00:50:08] and hug them until you don't pick them up and hug them.
[00:50:12] But yeah, she's like starving as you're like going throughout this game.
[00:50:15] And so every time she gets in a bad situation, it's because she eats something.
[00:50:19] And like there was like the first time there's this little like piece of meat that was inside
[00:50:24] of a cage that she goes and she eats and then she gets trapped in a cage.
[00:50:28] Interesting little footnotes.
[00:50:30] So have you played the there's like a there's like a DLC for the first game you're playing
[00:50:35] as a little boy.
[00:50:35] Yeah.
[00:50:36] And then he turns out to be the gnome.
[00:50:37] Yeah.
[00:50:38] That she eats.
[00:50:39] In the end.
[00:50:40] Oh, so good.
[00:50:41] Real sad.
[00:50:41] Yeah.
[00:50:42] Really sad stuff.
[00:50:43] But yeah.
[00:50:43] So this game is really fascinating because it talks a lot about like like the the aspects
[00:50:48] of the horror in this game is a lot about consumption and it's about like she's this little girl
[00:50:54] in this world that she you don't understand as the audience and she doesn't understand
[00:50:58] as the character.
[00:51:00] But something super nefarious is going on.
[00:51:03] And the idea is is that there is this there is this place called the Maw and apparently
[00:51:08] the people this in this world the 1% have completely taken over and they've won right.
[00:51:15] The rest of the world is just gone decimated.
[00:51:18] Like people are just dead.
[00:51:20] And the the only people that are survived are the ultra elite who come to this place periodically
[00:51:26] like once a year to feed.
[00:51:28] To feed.
[00:51:29] And like they feed but people don't leave this place because something else is inside the
[00:51:35] mall.
[00:51:35] It's run by this woman called the Geisha and you see little little idols little caricatures
[00:51:40] of the Geisha throughout different environments.
[00:51:43] You can go and there's an achievement for finding all of her statues and breaking them.
[00:51:47] And that I think that symbolically kind of shows to lose a little bit of the power that
[00:51:53] she has.
[00:51:54] But like the end of this game the final boss fight is that you know you're you're fighting
[00:51:57] against this Geisha and in order to combat her you have to show her a mirror of her face
[00:52:03] which ultimately kind of makes her cave in on herself.
[00:52:06] But the entire time as you're going throughout this game there's this iconography there's
[00:52:11] there are these symbols of an eye that's watching you kind of like the great eye of Sauron.
[00:52:15] But there's like a there's like a magic that's going on in this world.
[00:52:20] Did you did you feel like that that was the case?
[00:52:22] The world was magical.
[00:52:23] They had some.
[00:52:24] Well there's some type of spiritual energy.
[00:52:26] There is another being that's controlling everything that it's like I think that has
[00:52:31] like created this place in the first place.
[00:52:34] I don't I don't think I really picked that up when I was playing it.
[00:52:36] But I mean I don't that's definitely sounds like a valid take as far as the overall world
[00:52:40] though because I mean there's a greater strings being pulled.
[00:52:42] It's not just the Geisha running everything because you even see at the end once you defeat
[00:52:47] her and you get the power and then yeah you know six does what six does.
[00:52:50] Yeah.
[00:52:50] It's like kills everybody.
[00:52:51] Yeah yeah but say she goes full 11 you know she goes carry.
[00:52:55] Yeah.
[00:52:55] Yeah just starts like ripping people apart and it's very cool but I could definitely understand
[00:52:59] having the idea that something else is in the background kind of making all that play
[00:53:03] out and happen.
[00:53:03] Well and I don't know so it's interesting as I was playing through this game and then
[00:53:07] I had the thoughts and about everything that's going on people have theorized that six came
[00:53:12] from the mall.
[00:53:14] Six is actually the daughter of the Geisha.
[00:53:17] I think I've heard that theory before.
[00:53:18] And that like in the very beginning of the game you're going through an area and
[00:53:21] when you first realize something is horribly wrong is that there's a there's a man that's
[00:53:25] just hanging in a stool that's knocked over and people have theorized that that was like
[00:53:29] six's father.
[00:53:30] Oh interesting.
[00:53:31] Who had tried to pack her away in the suitcase to hide her from the mom.
[00:53:35] But yeah so like the idea is that she's number six like why would you name a kid number
[00:53:40] six.
[00:53:41] Right.
[00:53:41] So it's really interesting like there's there's a lot of like subtle things that are going
[00:53:45] on in the story.
[00:53:46] But yeah like the eye the the overwhelming eye and there's something that is there is
[00:53:51] present and then you see it again in the second game which is really really cool.
[00:53:54] So yeah the ending of six was crazy.
[00:53:56] You know you fight the Geisha and then you consume the power that I only assume the Geisha
[00:54:03] was like being told to utilize because she's she's collecting these people to come to
[00:54:08] the mall to feed and then and in turn fattening them up for the slaughter.
[00:54:14] Exactly.
[00:54:14] Yeah.
[00:54:14] And like in like the whole context of the beginning of the game when you're getting through like
[00:54:18] that prison and then the kitchens is that they're harvesting children for meat.
[00:54:22] Yeah.
[00:54:23] Is what it seems like.
[00:54:24] It's disgusting.
[00:54:24] Yeah.
[00:54:25] Like it's fucking awful but like it's so it's so dark and scary but the idea is that they're
[00:54:30] doing this in order to continuously keep this cycle of you know these humans from outside
[00:54:36] of them all to come in here so the the the god of hunger or whatever this like malevolent
[00:54:41] being is can feed off their life force.
[00:54:44] I think that's kind of what was going on in the first game.
[00:54:47] I could be wrong.
[00:54:48] This game is is pretty complex in terms of like the subtleties that are there.
[00:54:51] And the thing about it that I like and what's really cool for me at least too is
[00:54:54] looking and seeing the different people and their different theories and from the little
[00:54:59] bit I don't generally do a ton a ton of research but I do recall going through reading a couple
[00:55:03] articles and just looking up things about the game and I feel like the developers from
[00:55:08] what I recall are still very much into that whole like you know someone's theory you know
[00:55:11] they're kind of open to it.
[00:55:12] Yeah.
[00:55:12] They're not like oh no that didn't happen you know this is what the game is and it's
[00:55:15] black and white like they are very much open to different theories and what people are
[00:55:19] taking away from it.
[00:55:20] Yeah.
[00:55:20] My favorite thing about art you know when somebody says hey I made this thing but
[00:55:24] I mean just because I say this happened doesn't mean that that's the truth right if enough
[00:55:28] people are like oh look this is six's dad and six is really the daughter and they're
[00:55:32] like who's to say it's not.
[00:55:33] Yeah exactly.
[00:55:34] I mean like you can have whatever headcanon and that's that's a good thing that's a good
[00:55:37] way for creators to be as opposed to people out there that go out six years later after
[00:55:42] the product is out and be like oh Dumbledore is gay like okay that's fine whatever.
[00:55:46] But yeah Little Nightmares 1 is interesting.
[00:55:50] Little Nightmares 2 throws a really big wrench into things or it changes things drastically.
[00:55:56] But I think that they're both they both speak to each other both are like significantly informed
[00:56:01] by the other.
[00:56:03] In Silent Hill 2 you start off in the woods you're a little boy named Mono and he has
[00:56:08] a little paper bag over his head.
[00:56:09] The big homie.
[00:56:10] The big homie Mono and he is in this place and this is again taking place in this universe
[00:56:16] called Nowhere and he's in the woods you go through the woods through this one section
[00:56:22] and then you hear like you go into a house the person who lives in the house isn't home
[00:56:26] but you hear a little faint jingle in the basement so you go to the basement who do you find
[00:56:30] a little girl.
[00:56:32] She's none other than six that you realize later on you both kind of team up to flee the hunter
[00:56:37] in the very first game and then you kind of go through this level.
[00:56:41] And the thing that makes this different is that immediately once you both have fled from
[00:56:45] the woods and the hunter you get on a little door and it goes to this city.
[00:56:49] And it's this the the pale city I think it's the name.
[00:56:52] I'm pretty sure that's the name of it.
[00:56:53] And it's really interesting like it's just again the iconography the visualizations
[00:56:58] kind of like the meaning behind it all like the the the city is completely like desolate.
[00:57:04] Only humans alive are these warped you know disfigured humans who are captivated by flickering
[00:57:12] television or these old television recordings that are playing on loop right.
[00:57:17] They can't like this interesting so the first game was about hunger or you know consumption
[00:57:22] the idea of consuming something and the second game kind of is kind of the idea about the
[00:57:29] second game is really interesting because there's a metaphor in this game about consuming in
[00:57:36] a different way.
[00:57:36] It's like consuming content almost the way that they are completely captivated in like
[00:57:41] literally if they don't have the capacity to watch these televisions to watch their programs
[00:57:46] to listen to the things they kill themselves.
[00:57:49] They're enraged.
[00:57:50] Yeah.
[00:57:50] Or they'll even walk off of cliffs if they see it on the other side.
[00:57:53] They'll fall off of they'll fall off of skyscrapers whatever the case may be.
[00:57:57] Just following that TV.
[00:57:58] Yeah it's it's really interesting so it's like this idea is like the fixation is like
[00:58:02] though there was like this hunger this consumption of like just like food in the first one but
[00:58:07] then the other game kind of it has more of an like an abstract conversation about what
[00:58:11] the other things that people are hungry for and like the very beginning of the game which
[00:58:16] was crazy.
[00:58:16] You might have talked to me a little bit about this before but the school section.
[00:58:19] Yes.
[00:58:20] Where mono and six go to the school and they're the the the bullies the bullies which
[00:58:25] are really interesting because the bullies are little children that are the size of mono and
[00:58:29] six but they're like rabid dogs and whenever you get a hold of like a mallet or like a weapon
[00:58:34] you can use it and crack them in there they're empty.
[00:58:36] Their heads are empty.
[00:58:38] Like a little porcelain dolls.
[00:58:38] They're little dolls that are controlled but the the boss that is inside of the school the
[00:58:43] teacher.
[00:58:44] Yeah.
[00:58:44] Oh horrific nightmares.
[00:58:46] The next craning through the the different like air ducts and yeah going around corners.
[00:58:52] Yeah in the very end when you're about to escape and she's like shoving her head through the
[00:58:56] vents at you and six while you're trying to get through and like snapping at you with her
[00:59:00] mouth.
[00:59:00] Oh it's it's all I mean they weren't playing when they said little nightmares because like
[00:59:04] they this is definitely do it to you.
[00:59:05] I'm surprised I didn't have any bad dreams after playing these games but yeah no it's
[00:59:09] so good and then again the section of what you were talking about with like the the weeping
[00:59:14] angels.
[00:59:15] Damn mannequins.
[00:59:15] We have mannequins in this game and this is when you go you it's like it's funny because
[00:59:20] the first main level is the school and then the second level is the mortuary.
[00:59:24] So it's like out of the frying pan into the fire for sure and it's like you go in and
[00:59:28] there are these like little mechanized hands that are come to life trying to strangle mono
[00:59:32] and six and then you know as you get later on this is where mono picks up a flashlight
[00:59:36] and he's like showing it around the room and these these characters these models these enemies
[00:59:43] will only move if they don't have light on them.
[00:59:47] So there are situations where there are puzzles where you have to figure out how to get light
[00:59:51] onto these mobile enemies before they get to mono and six but yeah really cool and
[00:59:56] then like so the thing that's interesting about this one as well is that how six she she
[01:00:02] didn't really have any powers in the first one besides like you know kind of hugging or
[01:00:06] being kind to the gnomes until she wasn't and then in this one you know she mono instead
[01:00:13] can see these shadows that are kind of like they they look like distorted TV when there was
[01:00:19] like white snow on the old CRT TVs.
[01:00:22] They kind of look like that like little representations of little kids and he can like consume the shadows
[01:00:27] which is really cool and interesting but he also has another power and this is something
[01:00:32] that you realize later on in the game is that as you progress through the game you start having
[01:00:37] to use the TVs that he comes into contact with to move around the world and the significant
[01:00:43] part about this is that the very first time you come in contact with the TV you get pulled
[01:00:47] into it and then you're in a hallway and you're running down what seems like a super familiar
[01:00:52] place from the first game and there's a door with an eye above the door that's the same eye that you
[01:00:57] see from Little Nightmares 1 and you're like fuck something is happening here and I'm thinking in my
[01:01:02] mind oh shit but then like as you kind of go later in the game you get out of the mortuary and you're
[01:01:08] in the pale city proper um the next like big enemy comes out and this is the pale man and it's just this
[01:01:15] tall dude tall like thin thin as a rail with like a little you know fedora hat on he's like
[01:01:21] he's chasing he literally does the the the grudge thing where hill mono was trying to get the get the
[01:01:28] TV going and six continuously pulls like stop get away from it she's trying to pull him out of the TV
[01:01:33] and then finally the pale man recognized what mono is doing because he has similar powers to mono
[01:01:38] he goes forward he starts chasing them and so at one point in time I can't remember if six
[01:01:48] gets I can't remember how they get separated but at some point in time mono and six do get separated
[01:01:53] and she gets taken by the pale man and dragged in back into the TV realm which is really really bad
[01:02:00] and she's like screaming and like there's the thing like in mono is like a good kid like he wants to help
[01:02:04] his friend because he just met her and she's like hanging out and six is doing kind of weird shit
[01:02:09] throughout the game too like you find her one time when you were out of the room in the mortuary and
[01:02:13] you like you come back in a room she's sitting on the ground and she's like snapping the fingers
[01:02:17] of one of the one of the not the bullies but the they're like the the arm the prosthetic arms and
[01:02:23] she's like snapping fingers off of it and then like another time when you're in the school and the
[01:02:28] bullies kidnap her yeah and then you save her she goes back and the first thing she does she fucking
[01:02:33] murders a role bully she does she like bashes his head in on the ground and she stands up and
[01:02:37] she looks at you and you're like okay that's my girl that's that's six right there that's she's
[01:02:43] showing her real colors yep so you know once she gets taken by the pale man you kind of are in a
[01:02:48] situation where like okay I have to do whatever I need to do to save her and you end up going in
[01:02:53] like throughout the city you see this large building with like a pulsing light in the back and so as
[01:02:59] as mono you go and you have to like go through this like puzzle case where you're following the
[01:03:06] music of the music box that she used to find her in the very beginning and you find six but she's
[01:03:11] not six anymore because she got dragged and she's this huge monster that and so there's that's you
[01:03:16] fight six as a boss encounter at the very end of this game which is pretty cool because the first
[01:03:20] it's you're interacting with the music block like you're trying to break the music box because she's
[01:03:25] very protective of it yeah and initially she's you know harmless she doesn't do anything but you have
[01:03:29] to get to start breaking the box and as you start damaging the box she becomes more and more hostile
[01:03:33] to you yes so it's like I think in like the first phase she can't even kill you by doing anything
[01:03:36] she'll just like push you away yeah that big of a deal right by like second or third phase if you get
[01:03:40] too close to her arm she'll just like one shot you yeah like knock you out the room so yeah no it's a
[01:03:44] cool it's cool mechanics too because you have to kind of use some logic in order to distract her
[01:03:48] to get to the point where you're breaking the music box and finally when you destroy it
[01:03:52] she turns back into you know the normal six that we all know and love and so but now
[01:04:00] something is wrong some power is amiss uh the pale man is chasing you both again and you're going and
[01:04:08] you have to run run run and you finally both make it all the way across make it out of this like tower
[01:04:15] and there's there's literally a portal there for you both to escape through and six jumps across first
[01:04:22] then mono jumps across but he barely makes it and he slips and he falls and six grabs his hand
[01:04:27] and you're sitting there for like four five seconds staring at the screen and she's looking at him
[01:04:32] as he's like hanging on after he did all this to save her and she lets him go live the king she lets
[01:04:39] him go she lets him drop into the abyss i this was a moment when i was playing the game i literally
[01:04:45] stood up and i was grabbed my i was like no fucking way are you kidding me i knew i press the wrong
[01:04:51] button i knew not to trust her out after the first really yeah i knew she wasn't to be trusted
[01:04:55] she wasn't to be trusted because she she got inhabited by that that evil power and who's to say
[01:05:01] that her even being in the pale city or even being adjacent to the pale city is the thing in the first
[01:05:07] place that caused that area to be completely wiped out in the first place which is okay which is crazy
[01:05:12] because like you know because she has that power and there's this there's depictions of the lighthouse
[01:05:19] and of like this i like for i can't think of all of the things that clued me into this but it was very
[01:05:26] obvious that the power wanted to be free of the maw like the power was contained to the maw
[01:05:31] but i think it like put things in place to mechanize a way for six to acquire the power and then leave
[01:05:39] with it and i there's a lot of stuff going on there's a lot of stuff in the background as well
[01:05:45] but you realize when mono falls into the dark like it kind of cuts out and you're like fuck you six you
[01:05:50] fucking you traitor you bastard and she's down in mono is down there at the bottom and he's basically
[01:05:58] in the hunger pit he is with the god of hunger like it's these fleshy walls with great eyes that are
[01:06:05] like boring into him and he has nowhere to go but there's just a little chair that he goes and he sits
[01:06:11] on the chair and then time a time lapse happens and he starts growing up in this chair in darkness
[01:06:18] and he becomes none other than the pale man yeah he becomes the pale man and you realize at the end of
[01:06:26] the day the pale man wasn't trying to get mono he was trying to save mono from six so the entire
[01:06:34] event so it's really cool the entire events of little nightmares 2 is a time loop so the mono is
[01:06:39] trapped in a time loop that he can't escape from so no matter what he's doing like the the events
[01:06:44] are properly sealed yeah they're locked in yeah god it's so good because did you go through i think
[01:06:49] you went got the platinum for both right no okay okay no not yet but i know that there's more stuff
[01:06:54] that kind of clues you in wait what am i missing well if you get all the the glitching remains like
[01:06:58] the things you talked about before romano can like kind of absorb the little shadowy people that are on
[01:07:03] the side you uh get an extra post-credit scene at the end of little nightmares two an extra one
[01:07:09] all right lay it on me yeah but that one so six has like a she she's a she sees a shadow version of
[01:07:15] herself which then like points to a pamphlet that's on the floor she picks it up the pamphlet and it's
[01:07:21] an advertisement for the ma and like her stomach growls oh shit yep wait so little nightmares two
[01:07:28] is a prequel events so little nightmares two is a prequel to little nightmares one everything is a
[01:07:33] time loop oh that's why when you first come across six and like you see her she's just a little girl
[01:07:39] running around running around running around and then she gets the yellow raincoat later on
[01:07:43] that's where she first got it yeah that's so interesting because i thought maybe she
[01:07:47] like lost it or something she lost it when she came to that was her first time finding it that's
[01:07:52] crazy that's wild that's why she's so devious she's so devious she's so devious where did she come from
[01:07:59] is my real question or was she always maybe the daughter maybe we'll find out in three three oh man
[01:08:05] i'm so hyped for three i'm so fucking hyped for it man like give me i need to find out what is going
[01:08:09] on with the story that's really cool i'm so glad you told me that because i had no idea um but yeah so
[01:08:15] that's so cool very much good stuff i guess that throws off my theories of the first one but no
[01:08:19] like that thing that's a good thing about it too it's especially when you're getting all timey-wimey
[01:08:22] i mean most things can be true so yeah yeah you can interpret it however you want maybe yeah so
[01:08:28] interesting though so okay little nightmares one and two is good and all but will silent hill 2
[01:08:37] might be my favorite survival horror game ever more than re2 remake more than re2 remake i
[01:08:43] don't believe you i don't believe it's up there i don't believe james ain't like that i need james
[01:08:47] ain't like he's not like leon i need more time to ruminate on it okay but so i think the difference
[01:08:53] between this and resident evil 2 remake is resident evil 2 remake is a popcorn action flick that you can
[01:09:01] go and you can go to the movie theaters with your girlfriend in the summer and just have a good time
[01:09:06] and watch it and like you'll love it even and even have a lot of artistry and a lot of beauty to it
[01:09:12] silent hill 2 is a game that makes you think and silent hill 2 is a game for me that's going to
[01:09:17] make me think about it for a really long time to come all right bloober team knocked out of the park
[01:09:22] that's what i've been this game this game you know in my personal the bloober backlog rating system
[01:09:27] it's a nine out of ten man it's very close to a perfect game for what it is okay and playing this
[01:09:34] game not only made me appreciate silent hill 2 it made me appreciate signal it's even that much more
[01:09:39] with all of the puzzles and stuff that signal is adopted from this game in the way that they told
[01:09:44] the story in signal this is like they're taking the best of both worlds between silent hill it's like
[01:09:49] the reason why i love that is because they took this this very poignant human story that's present
[01:09:55] in a silent hill one and two and then they took all of the cool action and like you know combat and
[01:10:00] like inventory management from resident evil put it together in one game they made a baby with it and
[01:10:04] it's it's a great game so go play signal this but silent hill to remake is really really good i i
[01:10:10] listened to rick's uh episode on pixel project radio where he reviews silent hill to the original
[01:10:16] and from listening to what he said there's almost no uh difference there's only minor differences
[01:10:24] that are more form over function okay and there it's it's it's very interesting i think like there's a
[01:10:30] lot of quality of life updates that they did to this but every area is so cool you know running
[01:10:35] around the streets learning about silent hill going through the apartments going through the hospital
[01:10:40] um to to local prison man there's just like this game handles mental oppression on another level okay
[01:10:48] that i haven't been able to see before and that's it and i think so is resident evil games do a great
[01:10:53] job of that like resident evil 7 specifically like you are freaked out yeah like dead space too
[01:10:58] um yeah i think like those games do a great job of putting you in like those scenarios where
[01:11:05] there's this odd this constant tension and release it kind of system that's in place with the gameplay
[01:11:11] mechanics that allow the player to kind of take a breather sometimes while at the same time having you
[01:11:16] know tighten up your butthole a little bit you know play through some of these games uh to to get
[01:11:21] through these systems but just like silent hill 2 is such an interesting story i got spoiled a little bit
[01:11:26] of like what happens at the end of it i'm not going to spoil that for for listeners today on what the
[01:11:31] story of james and mary is in this game but i think it's just like remarkably well handled i was playing
[01:11:38] a lot of this with my girlfriend and you know talking to her about it as i was playing through i was like
[01:11:43] is james just a is he just a cheater like what's going on there's a lot of like this like infidelity
[01:11:48] um kind of uh symbolism or metaphors that are in place as you go through and you're talking to maria
[01:11:55] and everything that's in the game and all of course all of the um you know monsters having the imbued
[01:12:02] nature of sexuality within them that's that's really fascinating so yeah no it's it tells a really
[01:12:07] really interesting story also i realize as i'm going through this game you never go up until the very end
[01:12:15] you you jump yeah you never like the yeah it's it's definitely this game is about kind of descending
[01:12:23] into the mind of james sunderland and about like it's very much an internal conversation of like how
[01:12:29] he's reconciling the past with his present self and the game often has him jump through floors
[01:12:37] and jump into black holes stick his hand into like this like okay you know pile of like really
[01:12:44] disgusting gunk yeah love that and uh yeah no it's it's really really well done i i strongly
[01:12:51] encourage anybody who's into survival horror games i know it's not the bag for everybody out there a
[01:12:56] lot of people like to play their disney dream light valley games and that's totally fine shout out to
[01:13:00] shady but like shout out to shady but my thing is is that silent hill 2 is just it's in a class of its
[01:13:06] own and i think that they did a great job with this game of bringing it forward in the future i've heard
[01:13:11] people critiquing this game uh on the internet by saying that oh like the over the shoulder camera
[01:13:19] is making you empathize with james sunderland more even though you're not supposed to do that because
[01:13:23] fixed camera angles were a they were a creative choice in the beginning of the day but i really
[01:13:28] think that people are just desperate for attention on twitter really okay yeah and i i really i don't
[01:13:32] accept that take no i don't i don't accept it at all like i think that the voice acting that they did
[01:13:37] in this game surprisingly the voice acting the original silent hill 2 was really well done uh
[01:13:42] rick included a lot of snippets of the stuff that of the the the takes or the the vocal lines
[01:13:48] in his episode uh for pixel project radio so make sure to go and listen to that but comparing it to
[01:13:53] what i heard in this game like it's modern and it's really really well presented and they don't
[01:13:58] deviate from the storyline that was presented to you that much there are two new endings to this game
[01:14:04] and there are already multiple endings yeah okay yeah so there's like a total of eight endings
[01:14:09] and uh three or four of them you can only get through new game plus so cool i'm personally not
[01:14:14] going to go through them no new game plus for you okay i'm gonna go look at it on youtube but yeah
[01:14:18] is that a particular reason is it something that's like i don't really feel maybe emotionally ready
[01:14:22] to go through this game that quickly again more more than anything else it's not that i wouldn't
[01:14:26] like to play i i don't know i just feel like a lot of silent hill 2 is that it's
[01:14:31] it's values in playing through it the first time so if i'm playing through it again like i mean
[01:14:35] i don't necessarily want to you know force myself to go experience other world you know hospitals and
[01:14:42] that sort of thing again and you know fight pyramid head and all that stuff like that was
[01:14:46] that was fun oh speaking of a shout out to pyramid head really a whole lot more shout out to pyramid
[01:14:52] head maybe don't shout him out but like really really cool cool uh boss you were talking about
[01:14:56] bosses and resident evil 8 all of the boss designs and enemy designs in in general in this game i
[01:15:01] mean silent hill is known for those yeah they're known for it and it's like it's classic nurses
[01:15:05] like you know you can look at a nurse like from silent hill and even if you never played it you
[01:15:09] know exactly where it's you know where yeah where it's from and you're looking at it and everything
[01:15:13] and cosplayers you know eat it up with a spoon go crazy yeah but no this game is um it's so much more
[01:15:18] than that okay and i think that like the story that it tells is way it goes farther beyond oh james is a bad
[01:15:26] guy james is a game james is a bad dude you know james you know did the wrong thing it's more of a
[01:15:33] fact that james is a man that has is only capable of what he is and that he was dealt a very specific
[01:15:39] set of cards and now he has to reconcile what's going on which i think is like not too far from
[01:15:45] what they were trying to explain or describe with walter in the first game but this game specifically i
[01:15:51] think it does a really really good job of explaining what it's like to be a person dealing with terminal
[01:15:55] illness um to be a person that has to fight against infidelity there's like also too i will say that
[01:16:02] it's not just the voice acting that sells it for me it's a lot of like the mocap work they did too
[01:16:08] with james i can't imagine that they were able to capture some of it in the original game because of
[01:16:13] the limitations the hardware limitations on the first one but there are moments where he's in the
[01:16:18] game where james is like talking to eddie or angela and he does these like vote like he does these
[01:16:23] mannerisms that i know that i feel like i've seen myself do sometimes where they'll say something
[01:16:29] totally like outlandish and incredulous and he'll look at him and be like okay okay turn away i'm
[01:16:36] like this is actually so good right now i love this it's so me he's literally me i'm literally just like
[01:16:42] i'm james but no this it's it's really good man and so yeah i strongly encourage you to play whenever
[01:16:49] you feel like you want to get around to it for sure just like you've waited on re8 it's not something
[01:16:53] that i feel like you have to like you know knock other games out of your list to play if you want
[01:16:57] to but i this is my first try at it and i'm so happy that i didn't have to go and deal with
[01:17:04] playstation 2 nonsense to get through this game i'm glad that i played it on the modern platform
[01:17:09] with all of the modern convenience that comes with it so that with you obviously enjoying this game
[01:17:14] is this something now to where you would be interested for a another silent hill remake or
[01:17:20] remaster to that degree something like three i don't know how much like you've looked into is this
[01:17:24] the kind of game that has made you want to do now a silent hill deep dive and you're looking at other
[01:17:28] games to see what could interest you or is it more of a kind of a one and done yeah not with the old
[01:17:32] games i don't want to go back and play them but it's like maybe the stories of the old games if we
[01:17:37] were to get remakes i absolutely want one okay i've heard people say that like too similar to like
[01:17:41] what you were telling me about metal gear delta yeah with three being kind of like a prequel and
[01:17:47] like one of the fan favorites of the game i feel like that's what the case with two i want them to
[01:17:52] do one because i've heard a lot of really good things about one in the past before and it's just like
[01:17:57] it's so far gone that i'm not really willing to go back and you know force myself to slog through
[01:18:02] those you know old you know mechanical systems for it but i want that and i also know that uh silent
[01:18:08] hill three follows the daughter of the protagonist one walter and so i would like i would like the
[01:18:16] one in three to be remade and to play it as well and i can only imagine that uh or at least i only
[01:18:22] hope that soundly hills who made a good profit because they've sold a lot of units i feel like
[01:18:27] they've broken the million mark i'm pretty sure they have um i haven't paid super close attention to
[01:18:32] it but like it's so good and i won't be surprised if this like gets mentioned i don't think the game
[01:18:37] awards have like a horror category but if they have like an action i'm sure they do have an action
[01:18:42] though yeah this is this has got to be in it because it's it's just so well done nice well
[01:18:46] that's good though especially because if you like that you already got bloopers next game already in
[01:18:51] the pipeline they already started shipping it off to people they were like oh look this is doing well
[01:18:54] by the way there's more we have more coming for you so yeah they must have staffed up uh quite a
[01:19:00] bit and been able to do so and i could tell through playing this game is that between the medium
[01:19:04] and playing this game i was like oh konami dropped a bag yeah it's different they're like they're like
[01:19:09] y'all aren't making the medium too yeah because i i don't know i think you said you're pretty like
[01:19:13] okay on the medium like you enjoyed it yeah i was very like medium very very on it yeah i was very
[01:19:19] i thought the medium was mid yeah but yeah i'd like it's the kind of thing where i went through i
[01:19:23] got the platinum i would never touch it again okay if somebody asked me about it i'd be like you
[01:19:27] have to be you got the the thousand rather yeah that's crazy they're like you'd i'd like you'd
[01:19:32] have to be a hard pressed like fan fan of these kind of you know survival horror things in order
[01:19:38] to enjoy this because it's not something that like i could i couldn't tell you about the story right
[01:19:42] now i couldn't tell you the characters names oh i remember i don't know the characters names but
[01:19:46] yeah what happens and then i wouldn't be like oh did they set it up for a sequel i'm like i think they
[01:19:50] did but i don't know if they're ever gonna hit it they left room for a sequel like they leave it
[01:19:54] i just remember they like leave at the end you're next to a lake i just remember yeah and like she
[01:19:58] needs to go find out what happened to her dad i think something like something along those lines
[01:20:02] but no but ultimately yeah more forgettable on that side but i'm glad to hear that it sounds like
[01:20:07] they were able to get a lot of good budget and a lot of good focus and then make silent hill too
[01:20:10] which people loved so they needed to get it right you know leading up to this point people have been
[01:20:14] seeing gameplay and videos and stuff and they were all very eh they're like don't mess it up please
[01:20:20] so glad to hear that it did well it's funny because like people were you know i
[01:20:24] can't i can't listen to modern consensus about games anymore i just i just can't because i i can
[01:20:29] only imagine that half the people that are talking shit about silent hill 2 in the chat
[01:20:33] were like 12 year olds that were like now to be fair this game is not a game that should be marketed
[01:20:39] on james going around and pointing the gun and shooting it at the enemies like that's not what this game
[01:20:45] is about like that's that was a kind of weird way to market it i if i were to market i would have
[01:20:49] had you know quick cut jump cut horror scene moments to try to say hey this game is scary
[01:20:55] um because there are they but it's not like there's no jump scares in this game it's more of a slow
[01:21:01] burning dread in silent hill 2 than anything else but yeah i can't listen to people anymore because
[01:21:06] it's just children online that spout spout off at random shit i feel like at the end of the day but
[01:21:12] yeah again to to your point i feel like the medium was a resume that they successfully passed the
[01:21:19] interview to do silent hill 4 and a lot of like i even feel like with the environmental design and
[01:21:24] the way that they switched back and forth between the two environments in the medium that's here that's
[01:21:30] in silent hill 2 which is so cool right like he doesn't james doesn't have the ability to do that
[01:21:34] at will the same way that the uh protagonist from the medium was able to but like there's still
[01:21:40] like moments here where you're like okay yeah i see how they got in a place to to do this and i think
[01:21:46] that a lot of people were arguing that silent hill 2 is only as good as it is because of the source
[01:21:52] material and i'm like yeah it's a remake of course it's a remake but like put it in the hands of
[01:21:57] anybody else yeah right and like you could have done somebody could have something horribly wrong
[01:22:01] right with this but they they nailed it on our front so i'm super happy for that good but that's
[01:22:07] going to be it for tonight did you have any other thoughts will do you have anything else you want
[01:22:09] to share nothing else off the top of my head other than happy halloween everyone happy halloween
[01:22:15] that's right i i'm debating on whether or not to put this out on thursday just so people drop it
[01:22:19] early just drop it early for people yeah you know thursday thursday night you know friday eve
