[01:06:50] Pokémon Legends Z-A: Our bold prediction

[01:07:52] Smell Ya Later!

[00:00:00] Hello, if you're listening to this, this is the Scarlet and Violet DLC post game show.

[00:00:05] That means spoilers, spoilers all over the damn place.

[00:00:09] If you still need to go play the main game or the DLC,

[00:00:13] you don't want to listen to this yet. You got to go play this.

[00:00:16] Don't worry, it'll still be here for you later.

[00:00:17] But you know, everything there is to know about this game is fair.

[00:00:22] This is just going to be talked about from this point on.

[00:00:23] So here we go.

[00:00:27] Ah, Fine Time is about to blow.

[00:00:50] Hello, Poke Pals. Yes, it's Poke Pals.

[00:00:52] We're not inviting the party people, only the Poke Pals, because it's me, Steve,

[00:00:56] with the other Poke Pals, Vin and Ampy.

[00:00:59] Yep, I dragged them back in from playing Pokemon Go all day.

[00:01:03] How's it going out there, you guys?

[00:01:06] We could be catching Blaze Cephalon outside, but you know, we're here.

[00:01:09] Just kidding.

[00:01:12] Yeah, we got to get on those ultra beasts, man.

[00:01:13] What are we doing doing this thing? Let's get out of here.

[00:01:16] What do you mean?

[00:01:17] What were you doing in 2016 when there was nothing else going on?

[00:01:20] Didn't you get your ultra beasts then?

[00:01:21] You need to get them in your cell phone, telephone too.

[00:01:24] Well, if you remember, that was the one game I skipped.

[00:01:26] So I guess that makes you less of a fan.

[00:01:32] I'm making up for it. Eight years later.

[00:01:36] Fine, fine, fine.

[00:01:39] So, yeah, this is the Pokemon Scarlet Violet post game show.

[00:01:42] Basically the DLC.

[00:01:44] We already talked about this game.

[00:01:45] Listen to that episode if you haven't already.

[00:01:48] So this is the second time we got DLC instead of third version.

[00:01:55] You know, Pokemon Yellow, Pokemon Crystal.

[00:01:58] They said none of that.

[00:01:59] Here's a Pokemon DLC and it's going to come in.

[00:02:03] Teal Mask and Indigo Disk and on a schedule.

[00:02:06] And wouldn't you know it? They they did that.

[00:02:09] I don't know, guys.

[00:02:10] Some call it cynical and I'm sure it's ruined the plans of, you know, all 20 people.

[00:02:15] They're like, I only ever buy third version.

[00:02:19] But but I still feel like this is way better.

[00:02:21] I feel like it keeps everybody on the same page instead of having to hide a few superficial changes

[00:02:26] and, you know, games we already played until we get to the good stuff.

[00:02:32] You know, the funny thing is cracking that ultra sudden moon joke

[00:02:35] is that a lot of people did say that that game was like 90 percent the same.

[00:02:39] And Ampy and I had this conversation where like they added some

[00:02:42] some cool new Pokemon, like our favorite electric cat Zeraora.

[00:02:45] But you're screwed if you didn't buy the game like over again. Right.

[00:02:48] So that was kind of a sticking point.

[00:02:50] So yeah, I feel like it's almost like it's a good idea to keep our 100 plus hours of progress.

[00:02:55] But like, again, like convincing people play like Pokemon Platinum

[00:02:59] and stuff like that off such like relatively minor changes.

[00:03:02] It was pretty tough. So I'll take this approach.

[00:03:04] Yeah, still pissed.

[00:03:05] I didn't get my wonderful little electric kitty from that second third version here.

[00:03:11] But funny thing is, I've actually never done any of the third version games in the past.

[00:03:15] No yellow crystal platinum, any of that stuff.

[00:03:19] But I've done both the DLC packs for both these past two runs

[00:03:23] Sword and Shield and now Scarlet Violet.

[00:03:26] I mean, I guess you could argue some folks might want the later

[00:03:30] complete version when it's all there.

[00:03:32] But I'm in agreement, you know, carrying over your main story

[00:03:35] progress is much better overall.

[00:03:37] And they've even got nice little ways to balance it out if you do get into it late.

[00:03:41] Like some of the levels get boosted up if you've already beaten the game.

[00:03:45] So if you are a little late to the party on it,

[00:03:48] you can still participate from the get go instead of having to wait for the very end,

[00:03:52] at least for one of the packs.

[00:03:54] Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.

[00:03:56] So why don't we just get into it?

[00:04:01] We paid extra for our DLC.

[00:04:04] What do we get? We get a phone call.

[00:04:09] Yeah, you boot this Teal Mask DLC and Jock, one of the teachers from school,

[00:04:15] he calls you up saying that there's going to be a school trip this time every year

[00:04:18] and that we're one of the lucky ones who was invited.

[00:04:21] But what are the odds?

[00:04:23] Yeah, what are the odds we were chosen?

[00:04:25] And shouldn't we have been cognizant of this trip like ahead of time?

[00:04:28] It feels a little weird that we weren't aware of it.

[00:04:31] It's like, oh, by the way,

[00:04:32] but maybe we want to give a permission slip to our mom. I don't know.

[00:04:36] Apparently, we've we've forgotten.

[00:04:38] We skipped that step, apparently. So

[00:04:41] yep, just surprise trip out of nowhere.

[00:04:44] Hope you're ready because we're leaving in like five minutes.

[00:04:46] You did pack your bags, right?

[00:04:48] You get on a plane, right?

[00:04:49] I think you get on a plane to other completely separate like

[00:04:53] like, what is it?

[00:04:54] I don't even know if it's an island, but it's like a separate

[00:04:56] like land of Kitakami, the land of the Teal Mask.

[00:05:02] Yeah, and it's moderated by the Blueberry Academy,

[00:05:05] who's run by Miss Breyer, who is totally not Pokemon, Miss Frizzle.

[00:05:09] And yeah, but oh, you know,

[00:05:13] normal field trip with Miss Frizzle, no way.

[00:05:15] And she's not suspicious in any way, you guys.

[00:05:19] I mean, I mean, we also get to meet not in a monarrival,

[00:05:22] Carmine and her brother, Kieran, who is not trying too hard.

[00:05:26] Just a little weird that we don't bring anyone else with us.

[00:05:29] You're the only one that gets to go.

[00:05:31] Yeah. So the weirdest part is that so that you go on this field trip

[00:05:34] without anybody you know from the main story and you just ditch them.

[00:05:37] And it's like, OK, it's kind of strange.

[00:05:39] But, you know, that said, though, I think like Carmine and Kieran

[00:05:42] are really cool new characters.

[00:05:44] Here's just such a lovable doof.

[00:05:46] Here's just such a lovable doof, even if like his character arc is pretty

[00:05:49] hamfisted. And like I feel like we've seen this sort of archetype

[00:05:53] of anime like a gazillion times.

[00:05:55] But I mean, he's still like a cool character, I think.

[00:05:57] Oh, Kieran, we have seen this arc a bunch of places,

[00:06:01] but it feels like they haven't really explored it too much here

[00:06:03] in the Pokemon games.

[00:06:04] Like I've actually been waiting for them to do a rival like this.

[00:06:07] That starts out all just, you know, friendly goober.

[00:06:10] And it's like, oh, oh, this this guy's got some darkness in him.

[00:06:13] He's just downright resentful there.

[00:06:15] I feel like they started to hint at that a little bit with Hop,

[00:06:18] but he's just too upbeat to really stay down.

[00:06:21] But yeah, Kieran, oh boy, he goes some places.

[00:06:24] It gets kind of compressed due to it being DLC and not like a whole story thing.

[00:06:29] But it is funny to see them explore that a bit.

[00:06:31] You're basically just rubbing your PC status in his NPC face

[00:06:35] the way everything goes your way.

[00:06:37] Get this fancy trip.

[00:06:39] Other things keep going your way.

[00:06:40] And it's just not fair, man.

[00:06:42] No, that's that's still better than since Irvine didn't play.

[00:06:46] They basically resolve Hop's rival story with diabetes like,

[00:06:51] man, I love me some malasadas.

[00:06:53] I could just eat these things all day and get older,

[00:06:56] get myself into the sugary coma.

[00:06:59] Yep.

[00:07:02] That's much better.

[00:07:04] It was pretty compellingly written just because I think there were

[00:07:07] some actual like shenanigans to cause Kieran to be jealous.

[00:07:10] He like overhears you talking about trying to figure out solutions.

[00:07:13] He's like, why not me, man?

[00:07:15] Like so he like gets the wrong idea and all this stuff, right?

[00:07:17] So I mean, like those are actual genuine emotions that a kid would have.

[00:07:21] So I mean, like I kind of got into that from that angle.

[00:07:23] It seems somewhat relatable that way.

[00:07:27] I mean, who among us hasn't been, you know, trying to hide

[00:07:31] the wild pet and then trying to keep the younger sibling out of it?

[00:07:34] I'm like, wait a minute, this is getting weird.

[00:07:36] Speaking of new pets, we get a bunch of new Pokemon here.

[00:07:41] And I guess I'm the big chump for this because I had a lot of fun

[00:07:44] with these guys.

[00:07:46] Okapot's a fun mascot with a stick and Okidoki, Okidoki,

[00:07:52] how are you pronouncing that?

[00:07:53] I've never heard this spoken till right now.

[00:07:55] Okidoki.

[00:07:58] Gave me a fourth dog to play with.

[00:08:01] That's a good one.

[00:08:02] Okidoki gave me a fourth dog to play with.

[00:08:06] And then I got more of my favorites from Galar to play with too.

[00:08:09] Poultice guys didn't Sinistia, you know, more tees.

[00:08:13] Then Applin got in on this too with Diplin and Hydropulse.

[00:08:17] And you know that really fucked me up because I didn't

[00:08:21] I don't look up spoilers that much or ever really if I can avoid it.

[00:08:26] So I didn't know Diplin was going to evolve.

[00:08:29] So here I am with my level 100 Diplin like, oh, I guess

[00:08:32] I got to make another one of these.

[00:08:34] Yeah, I think there's some promotional materials we were aware of like

[00:08:39] of an evolution like but we didn't really see the method

[00:08:43] because of course these methods gets pretty obtuse, right?

[00:08:45] So I mean, I certainly didn't have access to that during my run.

[00:08:48] But yeah, I think like the new legendary poison trio is pretty cool.

[00:08:52] They all look like goofballs and it's not every day

[00:08:54] you get to see like the poison type represented that way.

[00:08:57] So they kind of diverge from the norm, right?

[00:08:59] It's not just oops all psychics are like whatever

[00:09:01] but Ogre Pond in general is just such a fantastic design.

[00:09:04] Yeah, and then the tea they really play off of existing

[00:09:07] troops pretty well, but with their own flavor.

[00:09:09] Yeah, the one thing's tea.

[00:09:10] Yeah, because it's yeah, indeed.

[00:09:15] The one thing I was a little more ambivalent about was

[00:09:17] Blood Moon Ursuluna and Ursuluna originally is from Pokemon Legends Arceus.

[00:09:22] But so this is like a fancy new form.

[00:09:24] They just kind of pull out of nowhere.

[00:09:26] This bear that supposedly evolves like was isolated from society

[00:09:29] and became its own form after all these years and nobody knew about it.

[00:09:32] And I'm just like the series does crazy stuff.

[00:09:35] I'm like, what is that?

[00:09:36] It just feels like it's kind of coming from like thin air or something.

[00:09:39] It's kind of weird, man.

[00:09:42] Yeah, Blood Moon Ursuluna did feel a little out of left field,

[00:09:45] but I guess it does kind of complete the whole link with Paran being

[00:09:48] they're introduced into it and Paran being connected to Legends Arceus

[00:09:52] and all that. But it also is kind of weird.

[00:09:54] That's sort of like a pseudo legendary status thing.

[00:09:57] There's just the one here.

[00:09:58] It's not something you can ever get more of.

[00:10:02] You can't evolve anybody to get another one.

[00:10:03] Yeah, I'm going to be the voice of the scent and say I like

[00:10:08] I like Blood Moon Ursuluna just because I don't know how much

[00:10:11] you guys may or may not have played Red Dead Redemption or Red Dead Redemption 2,

[00:10:16] but he's got some weird parallels with this unkillable bear

[00:10:20] in that game where he just appears out of nowhere

[00:10:22] and he's got these scars on his face and you can't kill him.

[00:10:25] And he's kind of like that, except you can make him join you

[00:10:27] and have him fire moon lasers. 10 out of 10.

[00:10:29] What? Okay, I've watched a fair share of the original and two

[00:10:34] and I haven't seen any like bears.

[00:10:35] I guess I watched them on streams.

[00:10:38] I mean, you're really selling this well here because

[00:10:41] it's pretty cool that you can pull that off.

[00:10:43] I mean, I think I'd like Red Dead 2 a bit more

[00:10:46] if I could ride the bear and have it fire lasers when you know,

[00:10:49] I can't have it all.

[00:10:50] Is this the Wild West anymore? What is this?

[00:10:54] Oh, yeah. And aside from that, we've already went over,

[00:10:57] but the trio is a good bunch of mischief makers

[00:10:59] and they really went all out with Ogre Pawn.

[00:11:01] Just having all these fun different masks,

[00:11:03] all these different appearances and making like a full on

[00:11:07] character for this whole thing and not just

[00:11:09] oh the legendary you capture at the end of it all.

[00:11:12] Yeah, they have this whole myth that people sort of like

[00:11:14] misconstrued or like whatever.

[00:11:16] So that build up was interesting and the whole mask motif,

[00:11:19] the fact that Ogre Pawn can swap out masks,

[00:11:20] it leads to some like cool merch.

[00:11:22] I think I've already seen like all these different like

[00:11:24] TCG like sets with like different or like different

[00:11:27] Ogre Pawn or whatever.

[00:11:28] It's like, well, of course they would, right?

[00:11:31] Oh God, is that going to be fodder for that app

[00:11:35] they have coming soon with the Pokemon cards?

[00:11:37] Am I just going to keep finding Ogre Pawn masks

[00:11:39] instead of cards I actually want?

[00:11:40] Oh yeah. Oh yeah.

[00:11:43] It's inevitable.

[00:11:44] Yeah, you'll like it too.

[00:11:46] Yeah, you'll like that rock mask you bitch.

[00:11:49] There's a thing we might have been a little more

[00:11:51] ambivalent about that maybe we didn't like as much

[00:11:53] and that's the map design, which is to say like I think

[00:11:55] like looking back on this DLC, the only thing that really

[00:11:58] jumps at me visually is like the crystal pool

[00:12:00] and otherwise just oops all like trees everywhere.

[00:12:03] Like not too many landmarks really stick out in my head.

[00:12:05] Like I don't know about you guys, but I struggle to remember

[00:12:08] much visually aside from the pool.

[00:12:11] But there's that guy's hut at the bottom right corner

[00:12:14] of the map that has the apples.

[00:12:17] Oh, okay.

[00:12:18] Yeah.

[00:12:18] They sell it there and not at the festival for whatever

[00:12:23] the ongoing forever festival that never ends.

[00:12:26] The festival looks cool, I guess.

[00:12:29] Okay, that's like another thing but other than that's like

[00:12:31] And it makes shit chug like a motherfucker.

[00:12:35] It does make it chug.

[00:12:37] The pool especially.

[00:12:38] Oh God Jesus Christ the framerate.

[00:12:42] Yeah, it gets pretty bad there.

[00:12:43] I mean some parts of the mountain climb are kind of

[00:12:45] neat having it at the center, but yeah, that doesn't

[00:12:48] feel like there's quite as much variation as some

[00:12:50] of the other places we already saw in the main game.

[00:12:52] So I mean that's a neat new area, but it's it doesn't

[00:12:56] stand out the way maybe some of the past DLC

[00:12:59] things did in previous games.

[00:13:01] So it's fair to say that the game didn't really

[00:13:03] run any better in DLC time even though we pay

[00:13:06] extra for it right?

[00:13:08] I mean no and which confounds me because it's

[00:13:12] a smaller area than like the main Paldia like

[00:13:16] area.

[00:13:16] So I don't know why it runs like this especially

[00:13:19] like again, like that pool something man that

[00:13:22] stutter is so stutter.

[00:13:24] But let's be cash.

[00:13:25] I didn't crash the whole time.

[00:13:27] So at least there's that I didn't crash either

[00:13:30] but at the same time if if Andre was a poke

[00:13:32] pill I could absolutely hear him sitting here

[00:13:35] saying guys could you imagine the crystal pool

[00:13:38] running on a real system in 4k at 120 FPS?

[00:13:42] Oh baby.

[00:13:43] Yeah, that sounds like something that maybe

[00:13:46] he was saying a question mark.

[00:13:49] What look look at that.

[00:13:50] Look at that drip the crystal pool.

[00:13:52] Oh my god.

[00:13:53] Yeah.

[00:13:54] 4k at 120.

[00:13:56] I don't think he expects that.

[00:14:03] Yeah, I was hoping against hope things might

[00:14:05] get a little bit better but pretty much just

[00:14:08] same as it ever was just anything bodies of

[00:14:11] water crystal pools bad enough, but even just

[00:14:13] that little road leading into town feels like

[00:14:16] it's just chugs like you wouldn't believe it's

[00:14:19] kind of a disappointment.

[00:14:20] But you know again no crashes on my end.

[00:14:23] So I'll take my blessings where I can get

[00:14:25] them.

[00:14:26] How'd you guys play this game because

[00:14:28] I'm I guess I was a bit dull.

[00:14:30] I just slotted in new guys as I found

[00:14:33] them and while leveling up other ones.

[00:14:35] I was in the middle of leveling up already

[00:14:37] I because I really really wasn't at chomping

[00:14:40] at the bit to raise a level 68 Bellsprout.

[00:14:44] Oh man those guys at the Sprout Tower,

[00:14:46] they're going to be so thrilled when I come

[00:14:49] back with this thing.

[00:14:51] Yeah, I think that's a perfectly valid way

[00:14:52] of playing it which is I think that's what

[00:14:54] I did for like the sword and shield DLC.

[00:14:56] But for this time around pro MLG streamer

[00:14:58] Lucentia.

[00:14:59] I'm not actually pro or MLG but I wanted

[00:15:01] to challenge myself on stream.

[00:15:03] So I had the great idea of only using

[00:15:04] Pokemon that debuted in this DLC.

[00:15:07] So the expectation was to use only new

[00:15:09] Pokemon, but I couldn't really find them

[00:15:11] or figure out how to evolve them.

[00:15:12] So I didn't I abandoned that idea.

[00:15:14] So like I had done like a gazillion

[00:15:16] raids by this point.

[00:15:17] So like whatever I found I could just

[00:15:19] like throw candy at them to raise

[00:15:21] a just just cram candy down to throw

[00:15:23] it to raise them to be on the same

[00:15:24] levels as like oh like rival trainers

[00:15:27] are like whatever so it wasn't like

[00:15:29] too big of a deal.

[00:15:30] So ultimately I actually like settle

[00:15:31] on this theme.

[00:15:32] I for the very first time I actually

[00:15:34] settled on a bug team.

[00:15:35] I never do this but I found a cutie

[00:15:37] fly at the beginning and then added

[00:15:40] Vico volts the electric bug Yanmega

[00:15:43] Leovani Ariados Rebombi and a Lumis.

[00:15:48] Yeah, so I had like oops all bugs

[00:15:50] which was a bit of a liability later

[00:15:51] on but it was fun.

[00:15:53] Yeah, I don't think it was us all

[00:15:54] bugs.

[00:15:54] I think a Lumis was dragging you

[00:15:56] down.

[00:15:57] Yeah, pretty much.

[00:16:02] And I'm pretty much just split

[00:16:04] the difference a bit.

[00:16:05] I got a handful of the new

[00:16:06] Kitekame Pokemon, but I also brought

[00:16:08] in a couple of I brought in actually

[00:16:10] that event Hisui and Zoroark they

[00:16:13] had just a happy hour all day get

[00:16:15] that extra extra money.

[00:16:17] But also I did bring in an

[00:16:20] Iron Valiant just mainly for

[00:16:22] false swiping but also like things

[00:16:24] got really out of hand.

[00:16:25] I've got my big emergency button

[00:16:26] to just pull me out of the fire

[00:16:28] that didn't end up happening.

[00:16:29] But I got a few new folks in

[00:16:31] there.

[00:16:31] I got a nine tails a Mamoswine

[00:16:34] and I got a Diplin of my own

[00:16:35] and it was fun trying those out

[00:16:37] for a change rather than just

[00:16:38] bringing all the folks I had in

[00:16:40] the main game.

[00:16:42] It's good.

[00:16:43] Yeah, good move on you bring

[00:16:45] in happy hour because there's

[00:16:46] that one lady in town that

[00:16:48] it's well she's the one game

[00:16:49] in town and they give you

[00:16:51] the option to use your campus

[00:16:53] points.

[00:16:54] I forget what they actually are

[00:16:54] right now.

[00:16:55] But then when you actually do

[00:16:56] that she's like what the hell

[00:16:57] are those just give me money.

[00:17:00] Do you like the DLC they like

[00:17:02] add an actual like like credit

[00:17:04] card slash like point machine

[00:17:06] they added like at the end of

[00:17:07] it's like our technology is

[00:17:08] evolved.

[00:17:12] That was great.

[00:17:14] That was fun that they slipped

[00:17:15] that in don't know what any

[00:17:17] of these old cryptocurrency

[00:17:18] things are that they were

[00:17:19] talking about.

[00:17:21] Leap points.

[00:17:22] We don't do any of that over

[00:17:23] here.

[00:17:25] I know what cryptocurrency is

[00:17:26] it's you know what cryptocurrency

[00:17:28] is it's all the money I hide

[00:17:30] in my crypt.

[00:17:31] Let me go let me go wake up

[00:17:33] the dead for some life savings.

[00:17:35] Oh God simpler times simpler

[00:17:37] times.

[00:17:55] But the simpler times are

[00:17:56] coming to a end because a few

[00:17:58] months after that we go to

[00:18:00] the farm far more complicated

[00:18:02] lot complicated feature rich

[00:18:05] Indigo disk.

[00:18:06] Oh God Indigo disk.

[00:18:08] What a good experience.

[00:18:09] Holy and what was this

[00:18:11] another phone call because I

[00:18:12] feel like that was almost

[00:18:14] like man not namona and

[00:18:16] Kieran liked you so much

[00:18:17] we're gonna give you a

[00:18:19] pass to the real blueberry

[00:18:21] Academy.

[00:18:22] Welcome to the terrarium.

[00:18:28] I'm pretty sure it's the same

[00:18:30] sort of deals just like oops all

[00:18:31] like Ford exchange time I

[00:18:33] guess since like okay I guess

[00:18:35] I don't know what's with this

[00:18:36] futuristic looking like

[00:18:37] underwater thing my bobber

[00:18:39] but it's cool I guess.

[00:18:41] Also your passport says you're

[00:18:42] technically in you know

[00:18:43] Vanell so turn on all the

[00:18:44] you know the music that's

[00:18:46] cool.

[00:18:46] Oh the teases they went all

[00:18:49] out for this so many teases

[00:18:52] do you have any favorite

[00:18:53] teases we're going to school

[00:18:55] with Grimsley's daughter at

[00:18:56] least that's who I think it

[00:18:57] is because she's like my

[00:18:59] parents is in the elite

[00:19:00] floor Mike well it's a

[00:19:01] fair assumption that's fair

[00:19:04] that we got Drayton who's

[00:19:05] definitely going to the to

[00:19:07] Drayton's family reunion

[00:19:09] and you know.

[00:19:12] Not a coincidence.

[00:19:16] Then there's our gel

[00:19:17] Archie Luton I can't pronounce

[00:19:20] Archie Luton who's really

[00:19:21] here just to show off how he

[00:19:23] looks an awful lot like the

[00:19:24] sky arrow bridge.

[00:19:27] No influence from New York

[00:19:29] whatsoever.

[00:19:31] So with all these teases

[00:19:32] it sure makes a lot of

[00:19:34] fucking sense that we're

[00:19:34] going to Kalos sometime

[00:19:36] next year right guys.

[00:19:38] God Jesus Christ you know

[00:19:40] we were chatting off pod

[00:19:42] but we're like are they

[00:19:44] using like this DLC pack

[00:19:45] is like a substitute for

[00:19:47] like a Unova remake

[00:19:48] because that would be kind

[00:19:49] of like dicks man.

[00:19:51] I don't know I mean

[00:19:52] starting up shape up

[00:19:53] that way given just how

[00:19:55] intense they said hey

[00:19:57] we're in Unova you've

[00:19:58] heard of Unova before

[00:19:59] right well you're going

[00:20:00] to hear a lot of it

[00:20:01] coming up ahead.

[00:20:04] I don't know what X and

[00:20:05] Y next time.

[00:20:07] I feel like they have to

[00:20:08] know that people want

[00:20:10] to want to go back.

[00:20:12] Yeah they do.

[00:20:13] They have to see it

[00:20:14] and I'm of the semi

[00:20:17] optimistic perspective

[00:20:18] that they're going to

[00:20:19] save all this sort of

[00:20:20] super switch because

[00:20:21] the switch cannot handle

[00:20:23] real Unova and remix.

[00:20:28] New York would those

[00:20:28] skyscrapers just cause

[00:20:29] the switch just like

[00:20:30] frame shock don't make

[00:20:32] those windows have too

[00:20:33] much internal lighting

[00:20:35] over all so the switch

[00:20:36] is kind of collapsed.

[00:20:37] That's why we have to

[00:20:38] literally build Paris

[00:20:39] and ZA when it comes

[00:20:42] out that it can't handle

[00:20:44] full-ass Paris.

[00:20:45] He nuts.

[00:20:46] Oh God.

[00:20:47] Oh the technicalities

[00:20:49] all the technicalities

[00:20:50] speaking the technicalities

[00:20:52] this whole terrarium

[00:20:53] environment is wild

[00:20:54] and man it's like

[00:20:55] it so again it's

[00:20:56] underwater but there's

[00:20:57] like four different

[00:20:57] biomes underneath

[00:20:58] the whole thing so

[00:20:59] like they have this

[00:20:59] artificial like biome

[00:21:01] set up man and

[00:21:03] it's just I thought

[00:21:04] this was really cool

[00:21:05] of an idea.

[00:21:06] They haven't really

[00:21:06] done anything like

[00:21:07] this before because

[00:21:08] most things are above

[00:21:09] the water but it's

[00:21:11] kind of fascinating

[00:21:12] you look up.

[00:21:12] There's a giant like

[00:21:13] dome and it's

[00:21:14] it's unique man.

[00:21:16] I was a little

[00:21:17] disappointed with it

[00:21:18] because I could have

[00:21:19] sworn like okay,

[00:21:20] they're going to make

[00:21:20] something wrong

[00:21:21] with this thing like

[00:21:22] everything is going to

[00:21:23] shut down and all

[00:21:24] the Pokemon are going

[00:21:25] to try to escape

[00:21:26] and there's going to

[00:21:26] be a giant whale

[00:21:27] Lord that slams

[00:21:28] into the side

[00:21:29] and where this is

[00:21:29] going to be the

[00:21:30] closest thing we get

[00:21:31] to survival horror

[00:21:32] and Pokemon.

[00:21:33] No, they didn't do

[00:21:33] any of that.

[00:21:35] If there's a wheel

[00:21:36] or the client

[00:21:37] so that the framerate

[00:21:38] would like chug man.

[00:21:41] We have to leave

[00:21:42] the terrarium

[00:21:43] to find a

[00:21:44] Trapa ghost.

[00:21:45] I mean that is

[00:21:47] true.

[00:21:47] Oh, yeah, this

[00:21:48] should have been a cop

[00:21:49] out.

[00:21:49] Yeah, it is true.

[00:21:50] But I guess I like

[00:21:51] the premise maybe

[00:21:52] a little more than

[00:21:52] the execution but even

[00:21:53] so like there's

[00:21:54] some pieces of this

[00:21:55] environment.

[00:21:55] There's like cool

[00:21:56] look at me personally

[00:21:57] and I liked it

[00:21:57] but it is a

[00:21:58] pretty cool setup

[00:21:59] overall with the

[00:22:00] different areas.

[00:22:01] I've all got little

[00:22:02] spaces to explore.

[00:22:03] It does feel

[00:22:04] a little bit like

[00:22:05] a wasted opportunity

[00:22:06] when you're showing

[00:22:07] showing off this

[00:22:08] ominous glowing

[00:22:09] orb in the ceiling

[00:22:10] and then it's just

[00:22:11] you have to

[00:22:11] don't worry about it.

[00:22:13] Wait, everything's

[00:22:13] under control.

[00:22:14] It's all good.

[00:22:14] You know the funny

[00:22:15] I don't know if you guys

[00:22:16] try this you can actually

[00:22:17] fly up there and get

[00:22:17] items from the orb

[00:22:18] up top though.

[00:22:19] It's actually pretty

[00:22:20] they give you some

[00:22:21] pretty baller things.

[00:22:21] I think there might be

[00:22:22] like a golden

[00:22:23] bottle cap for raising

[00:22:24] stats and stuff like

[00:22:24] that.

[00:22:25] I didn't think to

[00:22:25] try this till like

[00:22:26] I read it all

[00:22:27] mine but I'm like

[00:22:28] they actually put

[00:22:28] stuff up you have to

[00:22:29] fly like super

[00:22:30] far but

[00:22:31] there's actually

[00:22:32] like an incentive for

[00:22:34] yeah, it takes

[00:22:34] like a minute to even

[00:22:35] get up there but

[00:22:36] yeah, they reward

[00:22:37] your curiosity.

[00:22:38] So it's a nice touch.

[00:22:40] Speaking of

[00:22:40] like curiosities

[00:22:42] did you like the way

[00:22:42] this is split up

[00:22:43] because it's like a

[00:22:43] four-way pizza.

[00:22:45] I'm most like why

[00:22:45] is this like a

[00:22:47] maybe a little too

[00:22:48] like basic in

[00:22:49] terms of just the

[00:22:50] way it's split

[00:22:50] across four biomes.

[00:22:51] But I mean I

[00:22:53] thought that was

[00:22:53] like okay ish I

[00:22:54] guess but

[00:22:56] even even if you

[00:22:58] had like a

[00:22:59] secret fifth thing

[00:23:00] underground what

[00:23:03] but that would

[00:23:04] have been something

[00:23:05] but this is

[00:23:06] functional.

[00:23:06] It's fine.

[00:23:07] You can see what

[00:23:08] they wanted to do

[00:23:10] and you can

[00:23:10] introduce the

[00:23:11] starter Pokemon

[00:23:12] and I like how

[00:23:14] everyone's pretending

[00:23:15] like this is the

[00:23:15] first time we're

[00:23:16] finding him in the

[00:23:16] wild even though

[00:23:17] there's been a

[00:23:18] number of times

[00:23:18] where we can

[00:23:19] before this but

[00:23:21] selective memory.

[00:23:23] No, no, we

[00:23:24] definitely didn't

[00:23:24] find a

[00:23:26] Oshawa and

[00:23:26] friends in

[00:23:28] in Alola.

[00:23:29] We didn't

[00:23:29] play those so

[00:23:30] it didn't happen.

[00:23:32] Did you have any

[00:23:33] hot takes on

[00:23:33] the four-way pizza

[00:23:34] Ampie?

[00:23:35] I mean they

[00:23:36] try to vary it

[00:23:37] up a little bit

[00:23:38] and they do

[00:23:38] actually have that

[00:23:39] sort of underground

[00:23:40] system between

[00:23:41] things for

[00:23:42] like a little

[00:23:42] more varying it up.

[00:23:44] But yeah,

[00:23:45] I mean

[00:23:46] there's a certain

[00:23:47] level of

[00:23:47] oh, it's got the

[00:23:48] whole cyber cube

[00:23:49] thing separating

[00:23:50] things.

[00:23:50] It's kind of

[00:23:51] an odd

[00:23:51] thing to go with.

[00:23:52] They also

[00:23:53] they're so

[00:23:53] like pointed

[00:23:54] that they like

[00:23:54] stand out

[00:23:55] so much

[00:23:55] for the

[00:23:56] naturalistic

[00:23:56] parts of

[00:23:57] the environment.

[00:23:57] They're so

[00:23:58] bright.

[00:23:58] Why are

[00:23:59] they so

[00:23:59] bright?

[00:24:00] We gotta

[00:24:00] separate

[00:24:02] you need a

[00:24:02] fence and

[00:24:03] you know

[00:24:03] we gotta

[00:24:03] build like

[00:24:04] the

[00:24:06] person high

[00:24:07] cube fence

[00:24:08] to

[00:24:08] yep,

[00:24:09] we're

[00:24:09] separating the

[00:24:10] biomes

[00:24:10] that'll

[00:24:11] keep those

[00:24:12] executor

[00:24:13] out.

[00:24:14] Yeah,

[00:24:14] yeah,

[00:24:15] I'm sure

[00:24:15] they'll

[00:24:15] listen.

[00:24:15] I'm

[00:24:16] sure

[00:24:16] they'll

[00:24:16] listen.

[00:24:16] Yeah.

[00:24:17] Speaking

[00:24:17] of

[00:24:17] listening

[00:24:18] though,

[00:24:19] oh my

[00:24:19] god,

[00:24:20] the

[00:24:20] music

[00:24:21] it's

[00:24:21] such a

[00:24:22] big

[00:24:22] surprise.

[00:24:22] It has

[00:24:23] all of

[00:24:23] the

[00:24:23] Pokemon

[00:24:24] black and

[00:24:24] white

[00:24:24] music.

[00:24:25] And

[00:24:26] so when

[00:24:26] I first

[00:24:27] like played

[00:24:28] the DLC

[00:24:29] the

[00:24:29] wild

[00:24:29] battle song

[00:24:30] made me

[00:24:31] sort of

[00:24:32] question

[00:24:32] what else

[00:24:33] hearing.

[00:24:33] I'm like

[00:24:33] am I

[00:24:33] going

[00:24:34] fucking

[00:24:34] crazy?

[00:24:34] Because

[00:24:35] I'm

[00:24:35] I'm hearing

[00:24:35] the

[00:24:35] wild

[00:24:36] song

[00:24:36] battle song

[00:24:37] from

[00:24:37] Pokemon

[00:24:37] Black and

[00:24:38] white.

[00:24:38] Right?

[00:24:38] I'm not I'm not

[00:24:38] wholly 100%

[00:24:39] crazy.

[00:24:40] Right?

[00:24:40] But I

[00:24:40] haven't

[00:24:40] played

[00:24:40] it since 2011.

[00:24:41] So like I don't

[00:24:42] really

[00:24:42] distinctly

[00:24:43] remember

[00:24:43] that

[00:24:43] well.

[00:24:43] Right?

[00:24:44] And then

[00:24:44] then the

[00:24:45] trainer

[00:24:45] theme

[00:24:45] hit.

[00:24:46] I was

[00:24:46] like,

[00:24:46] holy

[00:24:46] shit.

[00:24:48] It's

[00:24:48] an

[00:24:48] arrangement

[00:24:49] of

[00:24:49] like

[00:24:49] the

[00:24:49] former

[00:24:50] trainer

[00:24:51] song

[00:24:52] from

[00:24:52] before.

[00:24:53] It

[00:24:53] was

[00:24:53] wilded.

[00:24:55] Those

[00:24:55] songs

[00:24:55] have

[00:24:55] lived

[00:24:56] rent

[00:24:56] free

[00:24:56] in my

[00:24:56] head for

[00:24:57] a while

[00:24:57] because

[00:24:57] they're

[00:24:58] probably

[00:24:58] my

[00:24:58] favorite

[00:24:58] one.

[00:24:59] So I'm

[00:24:59] like

[00:24:59] I got

[00:25:00] what

[00:25:00] you

[00:25:00] guys are

[00:25:01] doing.

[00:25:01] I'm I'm I know

[00:25:02] what you're

[00:25:03] doing.

[00:25:04] Oh,

[00:25:04] yeah.

[00:25:05] Yeah,

[00:25:06] like the

[00:25:06] main

[00:25:06] field

[00:25:07] theme didn't

[00:25:07] clue me

[00:25:08] in right

[00:25:08] away because

[00:25:09] it had

[00:25:09] been a

[00:25:09] while

[00:25:09] since I'd

[00:25:10] heard

[00:25:10] what that's

[00:25:11] referencing which

[00:25:12] is

[00:25:12] apparently

[00:25:12] more

[00:25:13] than one

[00:25:13] tune even

[00:25:14] but yeah,

[00:25:14] once the

[00:25:15] wild

[00:25:15] battle hit

[00:25:16] it's

[00:25:16] like,

[00:25:16] oh,

[00:25:16] yeah,

[00:25:17] oh,

[00:25:17] we're

[00:25:17] back and

[00:25:17] then the

[00:25:18] trainer

[00:25:18] theme.

[00:25:18] Okay.

[00:25:19] Yeah,

[00:25:19] this is all

[00:25:20] the memories

[00:25:21] are

[00:25:21] flooding

[00:25:21] back at

[00:25:21] once.

[00:25:22] They

[00:25:22] did a

[00:25:23] great

[00:25:23] job

[00:25:23] sprucing

[00:25:24] those up

[00:25:24] for

[00:25:25] new take on

[00:25:26] an old

[00:25:26] familiar.

[00:25:28] They're

[00:25:28] good songs.

[00:25:28] They're

[00:25:29] generally

[00:25:29] good song.

[00:25:29] So I

[00:25:30] was

[00:25:30] quite

[00:25:30] surprised

[00:25:31] and

[00:25:32] speaking

[00:25:33] of more

[00:25:33] good

[00:25:33] songs

[00:25:34] when you

[00:25:34] battle

[00:25:35] Kieran,

[00:25:35] oh my

[00:25:35] God,

[00:25:36] because

[00:25:36] of course

[00:25:36] it's

[00:25:36] going to

[00:25:37] battle the

[00:25:37] edge

[00:25:37] Lord kid.

[00:25:39] I was

[00:25:39] joking

[00:25:40] that his

[00:25:41] battle song

[00:25:42] is

[00:25:42] like a

[00:25:42] like a

[00:25:43] Nihon

[00:25:43] Falcon

[00:25:44] or

[00:25:44] like an

[00:25:44] East

[00:25:44] B-side

[00:25:45] or

[00:25:45] something

[00:25:45] because it

[00:25:46] like has

[00:25:46] like a

[00:25:46] sort of

[00:25:47] like

[00:25:47] riffage

[00:25:48] at the

[00:25:48] beginning

[00:25:49] and it

[00:25:49] has like

[00:25:49] this

[00:25:50] orchestral

[00:25:50] stuff in

[00:25:51] the middle

[00:25:51] like,

[00:25:51] okay.

[00:25:52] It's

[00:25:53] catchy.

[00:25:53] But I'm

[00:25:53] like,

[00:25:54] oh,

[00:25:56] okay.

[00:25:57] He's

[00:25:57] he's

[00:25:57] he's

[00:25:58] it's all

[00:25:58] it's all

[00:25:59] his hurting

[00:25:59] inside.

[00:26:00] The orchestra

[00:26:01] part

[00:26:01] represents

[00:26:02] his

[00:26:02] internal

[00:26:03] struggle.

[00:26:03] Yes.

[00:26:05] The drum

[00:26:05] the drum

[00:26:06] has

[00:26:06] risen to

[00:26:06] a fever

[00:26:07] pitch.

[00:26:08] And that's

[00:26:09] one way

[00:26:09] of doing

[00:26:10] it.

[00:26:10] No,

[00:26:10] it's

[00:26:10] a

[00:26:10] genuinely

[00:26:11] good

[00:26:11] song.

[00:26:11] But then

[00:26:11] again,

[00:26:12] like

[00:26:12] trainer,

[00:26:12] I mean,

[00:26:13] rival

[00:26:14] trainer songs

[00:26:14] in general

[00:26:15] in the series

[00:26:15] are pretty

[00:26:15] baller

[00:26:16] too,

[00:26:16] but this

[00:26:16] is

[00:26:17] particularly

[00:26:17] fun to

[00:26:17] me

[00:26:18] and speaking

[00:26:19] of fun,

[00:26:20] I kind

[00:26:21] of like the Jubilee

[00:26:22] village song

[00:26:23] from like

[00:26:24] Pokemon Legends

[00:26:24] Arceus for

[00:26:25] the

[00:26:26] the blood moon

[00:26:26] Ursuluda quest.

[00:26:27] He just

[00:26:27] straight like

[00:26:28] ripped it off.

[00:26:29] Do you think

[00:26:29] that's kind

[00:26:30] of like

[00:26:31] kind of

[00:26:31] funny?

[00:26:33] That was

[00:26:33] fine.

[00:26:33] I mean,

[00:26:34] you already

[00:26:34] were

[00:26:35] borrowing

[00:26:36] what's-her-names

[00:26:36] appear.

[00:26:37] Like that

[00:26:37] that whole

[00:26:38] thing was

[00:26:38] meant to

[00:26:38] hey guys,

[00:26:39] remember

[00:26:39] Arceus,

[00:26:40] a game

[00:26:40] that

[00:26:41] runs a

[00:26:41] bit better

[00:26:42] than this.

[00:26:43] Remember how

[00:26:43] much fun

[00:26:43] we had?

[00:26:45] Remember how

[00:26:45] much fun

[00:26:46] we had

[00:26:46] just making

[00:26:47] a Pokedex?

[00:26:48] Oh God.

[00:26:50] There's

[00:26:51] one more

[00:26:51] thing I got to

[00:26:52] mention.

[00:26:53] And so

[00:26:53] we mentioned

[00:26:54] our favorite

[00:26:55] music artist

[00:26:56] Ed Sheeran

[00:26:56] last time

[00:26:57] who does

[00:26:58] Celestial

[00:26:58] in the

[00:26:58] push plays

[00:26:59] during the

[00:26:59] credits of

[00:27:00] the original

[00:27:00] game.

[00:27:01] And so

[00:27:01] like I

[00:27:02] got hella

[00:27:02] bamboozled

[00:27:03] by these

[00:27:03] credits,

[00:27:04] like

[00:27:04] because the

[00:27:05] credits

[00:27:05] like

[00:27:06] has an

[00:27:06] arrangement

[00:27:06] with that

[00:27:07] song,

[00:27:07] but it's

[00:27:07] by

[00:27:07] Toby Fox

[00:27:08] of all

[00:27:08] people.

[00:27:09] And I'm

[00:27:09] like,

[00:27:10] wait a

[00:27:10] second.

[00:27:11] This is

[00:27:11] like the most

[00:27:11] blessed

[00:27:12] s like

[00:27:12] confluence

[00:27:13] of factors

[00:27:13] ever.

[00:27:14] This is

[00:27:14] crazy,

[00:27:14] right?

[00:27:17] Yeah,

[00:27:17] this would

[00:27:17] not have

[00:27:18] been on my

[00:27:18] bingo

[00:27:18] card a couple

[00:27:19] years back,

[00:27:20] but you

[00:27:20] know,

[00:27:20] strange

[00:27:21] things do

[00:27:21] happen.

[00:27:22] It's

[00:27:22] those

[00:27:23] kind of

[00:27:23] times

[00:27:23] these

[00:27:23] days.

[00:27:25] They

[00:27:26] still

[00:27:26] say

[00:27:26] Ed Sheeran

[00:27:27] has

[00:27:27] fallen

[00:27:27] down

[00:27:27] that

[00:27:28] chasm.

[00:27:29] Yeah,

[00:27:29] it's

[00:27:29] just,

[00:27:29] it's

[00:27:30] like a

[00:27:30] chill

[00:27:30] like

[00:27:31] acoustic

[00:27:31] version

[00:27:32] as well.

[00:27:32] It's

[00:27:32] just

[00:27:32] like,

[00:27:33] uh,

[00:27:34] I mean,

[00:27:34] this is

[00:27:34] good.

[00:27:35] It's

[00:27:35] genuinely

[00:27:36] good.

[00:27:36] I

[00:27:36] just never

[00:27:36] would have

[00:27:37] expected

[00:27:37] the

[00:27:37] song

[00:27:37] to come

[00:27:38] back.

[00:27:38] I guess

[00:27:39] it's

[00:27:39] just

[00:27:40] chill because

[00:27:40] Turtle.

[00:27:40] I don't

[00:27:40] know.

[00:27:41] No,

[00:27:45] speaking

[00:27:45] of Turtle,

[00:27:48] what would you guys

[00:27:49] do for

[00:27:51] teams now?

[00:27:51] Because you're

[00:27:52] very creative

[00:27:53] with

[00:27:54] your

[00:27:54] teal mass

[00:27:55] thing.

[00:27:55] I just

[00:27:55] kept doing

[00:27:56] more of the

[00:27:56] same like,

[00:27:57] yeah,

[00:27:57] I guess

[00:27:57] I'll

[00:27:58] play

[00:27:58] with

[00:27:58] Derell

[00:27:58] Adon,

[00:27:59] get my

[00:28:00] Skyarrow

[00:28:00] bridge beam

[00:28:01] guy going

[00:28:02] and

[00:28:03] just keep

[00:28:03] doing

[00:28:03] what I'm

[00:28:04] doing.

[00:28:04] But did

[00:28:05] you guys

[00:28:05] keep

[00:28:05] going

[00:28:05] with

[00:28:06] your,

[00:28:07] with your

[00:28:08] Try Too Hard

[00:28:08] teams or

[00:28:09] what?

[00:28:09] Try Too Hard.

[00:28:11] Yeah,

[00:28:11] my pro MLG

[00:28:12] strats.

[00:28:13] I wanted to

[00:28:14] pick

[00:28:14] Pokemon that

[00:28:14] were new

[00:28:15] that were

[00:28:15] added to

[00:28:15] the DLC.

[00:28:17] But I

[00:28:18] stumbled a

[00:28:18] lot trying

[00:28:19] to figure

[00:28:19] out a

[00:28:19] theme.

[00:28:19] So it

[00:28:20] came,

[00:28:20] I came up

[00:28:21] with the

[00:28:21] theme Rainbow

[00:28:22] Fairies

[00:28:23] and their

[00:28:23] friends.

[00:28:23] So I had

[00:28:24] like

[00:28:24] Flygon,

[00:28:25] Meowstick,

[00:28:27] Alcremie,

[00:28:28] Comfey,

[00:28:29] Bellossom

[00:28:29] and Muck.

[00:28:30] It was

[00:28:30] like super

[00:28:30] random,

[00:28:31] but it was

[00:28:31] kind of

[00:28:31] based on

[00:28:31] visual

[00:28:32] appearance

[00:28:32] and to

[00:28:32] some degree

[00:28:33] like their

[00:28:33] types.

[00:28:34] And

[00:28:35] Flygon was

[00:28:35] kind of

[00:28:36] pushing it

[00:28:36] a little bit,

[00:28:38] but I just

[00:28:38] wanted to

[00:28:39] break the game

[00:28:40] early because

[00:28:40] Flygon is

[00:28:41] pretty strong.

[00:28:43] But so the

[00:28:43] one thing I

[00:28:44] thought that

[00:28:44] was really

[00:28:45] hysterical

[00:28:45] though,

[00:28:46] was that they

[00:28:47] anticipate people

[00:28:48] just take their

[00:28:48] old team

[00:28:48] just curb

[00:28:49] stomp everybody

[00:28:50] because

[00:28:50] when you

[00:28:50] fight

[00:28:51] Drayden,

[00:28:52] he's all

[00:28:52] like,

[00:28:52] you have to

[00:28:53] use all

[00:28:53] new Pokemon

[00:28:54] in the

[00:28:54] terrarium.

[00:28:54] So I was

[00:28:54] like,

[00:28:55] yes!

[00:28:55] To me,

[00:28:55] I was like,

[00:28:56] ready to

[00:28:56] go.

[00:28:58] I think it

[00:28:58] was a

[00:28:58] bit on

[00:28:59] that one.

[00:29:00] That was

[00:29:00] fun trying

[00:29:01] to scoop

[00:29:01] a few of

[00:29:01] them together.

[00:29:02] Like,

[00:29:02] okay,

[00:29:02] I'm going

[00:29:03] to use my

[00:29:04] my bridge bean

[00:29:04] guy and

[00:29:06] hang on a

[00:29:07] minute.

[00:29:09] Although I

[00:29:10] gotta say

[00:29:11] Rainbow

[00:29:12] fairies and

[00:29:12] friends sounds

[00:29:13] like a

[00:29:14] deck recipe

[00:29:15] I need to

[00:29:15] build in

[00:29:16] the Pokemon

[00:29:17] trading card

[00:29:17] game for

[00:29:18] Game Boy.

[00:29:18] Like,

[00:29:18] I need to

[00:29:19] make the

[00:29:20] cards and

[00:29:20] then go up

[00:29:20] to the

[00:29:20] machine.

[00:29:21] Okay,

[00:29:21] you have

[00:29:22] the

[00:29:22] Rainbow

[00:29:23] fairy and

[00:29:23] friends deck.

[00:29:24] Dude,

[00:29:25] I would

[00:29:25] love to see

[00:29:25] that deck

[00:29:26] and the

[00:29:26] theming

[00:29:27] it's way

[00:29:27] cooler than

[00:29:28] Embracers

[00:29:28] like and

[00:29:29] friends

[00:29:29] motif,

[00:29:30] right?

[00:29:31] We got the

[00:29:31] and friends

[00:29:32] stuff on

[00:29:32] lock.

[00:29:34] Yeah,

[00:29:34] better Rainbow

[00:29:35] fairy and

[00:29:36] friends than

[00:29:36] Lore of the

[00:29:37] rings and

[00:29:37] friends.

[00:29:40] Yeah,

[00:29:40] but honestly,

[00:29:41] I thought it was a

[00:29:41] fun twist to

[00:29:42] the usual

[00:29:42] challenges like

[00:29:43] no,

[00:29:43] you really

[00:29:44] can't bring your

[00:29:44] main team

[00:29:45] in there.

[00:29:45] Drayton Outright

[00:29:46] says like,

[00:29:46] oh,

[00:29:47] wouldn't be

[00:29:47] fun if you

[00:29:48] could just

[00:29:48] steamroll

[00:29:48] with your

[00:29:49] all your

[00:29:49] super trained

[00:29:50] up team,

[00:29:50] right?

[00:29:51] And also,

[00:29:52] I found out

[00:29:53] the hard way

[00:29:53] terror raids

[00:29:54] don't count.

[00:29:55] So,

[00:29:56] you can't

[00:29:56] just take

[00:29:57] something really

[00:29:58] powerful from

[00:29:59] that either.

[00:29:59] You want that

[00:30:00] Metagross on

[00:30:01] your team,

[00:30:01] you better go

[00:30:02] into that

[00:30:02] cave and

[00:30:03] find that

[00:30:03] Metang and

[00:30:04] deal with

[00:30:05] that three

[00:30:05] catch rate.

[00:30:06] And

[00:30:07] yeah,

[00:30:07] good luck

[00:30:08] with that.

[00:30:09] I didn't know

[00:30:10] that.

[00:30:10] What?

[00:30:12] So,

[00:30:12] what I did

[00:30:13] was I

[00:30:14] stayed in

[00:30:14] that,

[00:30:15] you know,

[00:30:15] the polar

[00:30:15] biome and

[00:30:16] found a

[00:30:16] few

[00:30:17] faves there.

[00:30:17] I was like,

[00:30:18] okay,

[00:30:18] let's give

[00:30:19] Lapras

[00:30:19] a try and

[00:30:20] let's give

[00:30:20] Reuniclus

[00:30:21] a try.

[00:30:21] And yeah,

[00:30:22] I made

[00:30:22] my

[00:30:23] Skyarrow

[00:30:23] bridge of

[00:30:24] my own too.

[00:30:25] And that

[00:30:25] ended up

[00:30:25] being a

[00:30:26] fun little

[00:30:26] bunch to

[00:30:27] mess with.

[00:30:28] But special

[00:30:28] shout outs

[00:30:29] go to

[00:30:30] SodaLite,

[00:30:30] my cute

[00:30:31] little

[00:30:32] screen

[00:30:33] Meowstick,

[00:30:33] who was

[00:30:34] pretty much

[00:30:34] MVP for

[00:30:35] all these

[00:30:36] double battles.

[00:30:36] It's just,

[00:30:37] just

[00:30:37] look,

[00:30:38] here we go,

[00:30:38] light screen,

[00:30:39] reflect.

[00:30:39] Yeah,

[00:30:40] you're not

[00:30:40] going to touch me.

[00:30:41] Go ahead

[00:30:41] and try.

[00:30:42] I dare you.

[00:30:43] Yeah,

[00:30:44] that's a good strat.

[00:30:44] That's

[00:30:45] that's

[00:30:45] MLG.

[00:30:46] We got Pro Ampy

[00:30:46] right here.

[00:30:47] No

[00:30:48] no damage

[00:30:48] here.

[00:30:50] I was

[00:30:50] oops all like

[00:30:51] offense,

[00:30:52] I think.

[00:30:52] Which

[00:30:53] kind of

[00:30:53] bit me

[00:30:54] a few times.

[00:30:54] But

[00:30:55] yeah,

[00:30:55] it was

[00:30:56] mostly oops all offense too.

[00:30:57] I am not

[00:30:58] good at double battles.

[00:30:59] So every time I

[00:31:00] move my

[00:31:02] I get there,

[00:31:03] I'm like,

[00:31:03] oh right,

[00:31:04] it's double battles down here.

[00:31:05] My

[00:31:05] my

[00:31:06] teams

[00:31:06] are never

[00:31:07] built for that.

[00:31:08] Yeah,

[00:31:09] it kind of makes you think a bit,

[00:31:10] which is nice.

[00:31:10] Yeah.

[00:31:11] Another thing

[00:31:12] that was

[00:31:12] was pretty

[00:31:13] nice to me

[00:31:13] was just

[00:31:14] the characters

[00:31:15] are cool,

[00:31:16] man.

[00:31:16] They're just a bunch of fun little dorks.

[00:31:18] The

[00:31:19] there's

[00:31:19] a whole new

[00:31:20] Elite Four.

[00:31:21] Once again,

[00:31:22] the Elite Four.

[00:31:23] They're so distinct visually and personality wise

[00:31:25] that I thought they were pretty memorable.

[00:31:27] After

[00:31:28] the DLC came out,

[00:31:29] I saw a lot of fan art of Lacey

[00:31:31] doing the X with her hands.

[00:31:33] I like the

[00:31:34] oh my God,

[00:31:35] but the I forgot his name.

[00:31:36] There is there is the

[00:31:37] gym challenge with the

[00:31:39] with the chef kid is like

[00:31:41] a burger for Pat.

[00:31:42] So you need me to trade for ingredients with other people.

[00:31:44] Got it.

[00:31:44] Okay, I could play trade games.

[00:31:46] Yeah,

[00:31:47] Crispin.

[00:31:47] Yeah, I think it was.

[00:31:48] Crispin.

[00:31:49] That took a while.

[00:31:50] Because he's cooking.

[00:31:51] Oh yeah,

[00:31:52] I get it.

[00:31:53] Yeah,

[00:31:54] the ingredients stuff was pretty fun.

[00:31:55] He's like,

[00:31:56] of course he's hot blood.

[00:31:57] Of course he is,

[00:31:57] right?

[00:32:00] That was good.

[00:32:01] Amorous me to do ghetto ass star Fox.

[00:32:07] You know what I hated about that?

[00:32:09] How there's no inverted controls.

[00:32:12] Yeah,

[00:32:12] it forces.

[00:32:13] That's right.

[00:32:13] Yeah,

[00:32:14] it forces up and down up is off.

[00:32:15] Who flies like that man?

[00:32:17] No,

[00:32:18] no inverted here.

[00:32:20] And yeah,

[00:32:21] it's it's took some getting used to.

[00:32:23] Oh,

[00:32:24] I hate it when they force that.

[00:32:25] But that's that's that's not how we fly a dragon.

[00:32:29] Come on.

[00:32:31] It's fraudulent.

[00:32:32] Play is what it is.

[00:32:34] I appreciated the effort they put into making just a nice little bunch of fun designs to play off each other throughout the little story beats.

[00:32:40] And yeah,

[00:32:41] it does feel like Lacey and Drayton got a little bit of a bigger piece of the action,

[00:32:45] but they all contribute to the fun and the different little trials feel a little more involved than the standard ones we saw in the main game too.

[00:32:53] Yeah,

[00:32:54] yeah,

[00:32:54] the trials were nice regarding the characters.

[00:32:57] One more thing though.

[00:32:58] Do we think that Kieran's redesign was maybe a bit too hamfisted?

[00:33:03] I lost the ogre pod you.

[00:33:05] I am going to hot topic and getting a haircut and you're not even going to recognize me by the time you get to the blueberry terrarium.

[00:33:14] I think he's got like a like a tank top or something.

[00:33:17] If I remember correctly,

[00:33:18] I'm like,

[00:33:19] what are you doing,

[00:33:19] man?

[00:33:20] It's like I'm a champion now.

[00:33:22] You're like he gets a little too powerful,

[00:33:24] a little too quick.

[00:33:25] I guess he was grinding manuals grinded in,

[00:33:27] but it was weird to be the villain arc man.

[00:33:32] Did you guys bring over on to sorry?

[00:33:34] Did you guys bring ogre pond to fighting him?

[00:33:36] I did not.

[00:33:39] It's mad.

[00:33:42] Oh,

[00:33:43] he I did bring ogre pond and oh,

[00:33:45] he is pissed.

[00:33:46] Like I just stopped it in and thought,

[00:33:48] oh,

[00:33:49] I'm going to have a little fun.

[00:33:50] You want to play.

[00:33:51] You want to play ball kid.

[00:33:52] Then you remember this.

[00:33:54] And then they actually put something in for that.

[00:33:57] And oh boy,

[00:33:58] he's not happy about that.

[00:34:00] It was so funny.

[00:34:01] They accounted for that possibility.

[00:34:02] I didn't.

[00:34:03] I missed that piece of dialogue because I was doing like MLG strats.

[00:34:06] But yeah,

[00:34:07] that's cool.

[00:34:08] The attention to detail is fun.

[00:34:09] It does feel a little like he kind of rocketed to the top in a hurry before he was just,

[00:34:14] you know,

[00:34:15] here's my little buddy sentret.

[00:34:16] And now suddenly he's rocking this super MLG like real stats team going on.

[00:34:21] But I mean,

[00:34:22] that's a that's how deep the fury runs,

[00:34:24] man.

[00:34:25] I think people were joking about he was running like a starter with like items.

[00:34:29] And that's another thing.

[00:34:30] Like all these these elite four fights are actually they can require you to think a little bit,

[00:34:35] man.

[00:34:36] They're kind of tough.

[00:34:37] But yeah,

[00:34:38] I think he was an incinerator.

[00:34:39] He had like an incinerator with like an item on it that was pretty tough or something like that.

[00:34:42] He was like,

[00:34:43] wow,

[00:34:44] yeah,

[00:34:45] like incinerator is like a super superstar in doubles competitive.

[00:34:50] And they're like,

[00:34:51] okay,

[00:34:52] this is how you we let you know we're serious about this here.

[00:34:54] It was a pretty fun touch.

[00:34:56] It was good.

[00:34:57] It was really good.

[00:34:58] Yeah, for sure.

[00:34:59] Well, you know how he got so tough so quick.

[00:35:02] He was pretending to be one of us and he blew through the game in a week.

[00:35:05] No,

[00:35:06] it was probably it was probably all the BBQs because I don't know how else you would get all that stuff that quick.

[00:35:12] But what does BBQ stand for?

[00:35:14] What did BBQ stand for?

[00:35:15] Something like blueberry quests or something like that.

[00:35:19] Barbecue quests,

[00:35:20] clearly.

[00:35:21] The extra B is your own barbecue quests.

[00:35:24] Right.

[00:35:25] I'd like to call them fake Nook Mile goals because they're like this.

[00:35:30] They are!

[00:35:33] Run 500 meters.

[00:35:36] Run 500 meters.

[00:35:39] Run 500 meters.

[00:35:42] Run 500 meters again.

[00:35:45] It's like a nice little bite sized rewards.

[00:35:48] One of them was like really funny.

[00:35:50] So like you could do multiplayer.

[00:35:53] So like if you do multiplayer,

[00:35:54] you get the share progress amongst the group and stuff like that.

[00:35:56] But sometimes they ask you find ditto blocks and those ditto blocks are like impossible to find amongst like the other blocks.

[00:36:03] It takes like forever.

[00:36:04] They're so disguised.

[00:36:06] I have only been playing by myself.

[00:36:07] You're going to need to tell me what a ditto block is.

[00:36:10] Yeah.

[00:36:11] So it's one of the other bright neon, like bright blocks, but it has like a ditto face on it.

[00:36:17] So you have to like stare at each one of these blocks and like try to find the imposters.

[00:36:21] But there's so many of them because they litter like everything.

[00:36:24] So you're all just hugging the walls.

[00:36:26] They're way too bright and blurry.

[00:36:29] And you're at the same time and you're looking for a ditto face.

[00:36:33] Yeah, pretty much.

[00:36:34] Just like, OK, it's a slightly different shade of purple here.

[00:36:38] And if you're not looking at the side that's got the face, you could easily just walk by it.

[00:36:42] But you really got to scour things.

[00:36:44] It's a group effort.

[00:36:45] Yeah, that's the thing.

[00:36:46] I can see why they don't filter those to do it to a single player types because that sounds awful.

[00:36:52] Take forever.

[00:36:54] But yeah, that was a cool way of doing of pulling together people's resources.

[00:36:57] There was one quest where they play a sound or for other players, they might show like a different type of hint.

[00:37:03] So you can let your friends know like, oh, I heard this.

[00:37:06] So it must be this or something like that.

[00:37:07] I don't have all the Pokemon cries like memorize.

[00:37:09] So like other hints really easy.

[00:37:11] But yeah, I thought that was pretty cool.

[00:37:13] Yeah.

[00:37:14] The nice thing is they really do encourage you to team up with your friends because if you are all playing together, everyone gets credit for every task that every individual person does.

[00:37:25] So you can just fly through all the point requirements to to get stuff if you work together.

[00:37:30] And then occasionally you do have these big super tasks that can be a little more involved.

[00:37:35] Anything involving hatching eggs can be a little bit of a pain.

[00:37:38] Oh, God, they also they also have the four star sandwiches, which you can't get those on your own.

[00:37:44] You actually need to make a one of those giant group sandwiches to even have a shot at that.

[00:37:50] So it's something to get more involved.

[00:37:52] You're ghosting with.

[00:37:54] But speaking of the BBQs, so it's this whole flush out system when you do get the points from doing these quests, you get to unlock like visual customization of functionality options in the league cluster.

[00:38:17] League club room, because of course, it's got to be all school themed or whatever.

[00:38:21] And my favorite feature was upgrading this item printer, which like I just colloquially call like the Pokeball Gotcha.

[00:38:29] That's very much what it is.

[00:38:31] Yeah, you get super busted items from it, but I like the rainbow Pokeball pole.

[00:38:37] And so on stream, I got this rainbow glowing Poke thing thing, my bobber.

[00:38:42] And I said, oh, it's gonna be like a Safari and a love ball.

[00:38:45] And it happened. It was literally a Safari and a love ball.

[00:38:48] These are hella hard to get in like the regular mainline like game from like the you the like keeper setting for the auction.

[00:38:53] Hope it appears this has got two balls willy nilly.

[00:38:56] And I'm like Safari and love. That's what I said.

[00:38:58] Right.

[00:38:59] Like it's crazy.

[00:39:00] It was like popped off, man.

[00:39:02] And like if you played Isle of Armor back in those sword and shield days, there was a little system you could get Pokeballs from that.

[00:39:09] But no throw that in the trash.

[00:39:11] This thing is so much easier and so much more busted.

[00:39:14] And you're going to get a lot of other cool things once it gets fully upgraded because you've got to do it in stages and do it a bunch of times.

[00:39:22] It gets the cost down, but then you can get that Pokeball lotto thing.

[00:39:27] I just straight up got a master ball one time.

[00:39:29] So you can just get some wild things from it.

[00:39:32] What? You could get that.

[00:39:34] I didn't know that.

[00:39:35] That's crazy.

[00:39:36] OK, but unlike the sword and shield one, this one doesn't look like a Kramer ant.

[00:39:40] So this could shove.

[00:39:41] No, I'm just kidding.

[00:39:44] What am I saying?

[00:39:45] Total downgrade.

[00:39:46] Oh my God.

[00:39:48] Do we have any other favorite parts of this room?

[00:39:50] Because there's a lot I kept trying because I was playing by myself and not scoring too much points.

[00:39:55] I'm like, I guess I'll after getting the item printer beefed up all the way, I'll make sure all the starters appear everywhere because I guess I better.

[00:40:02] But was there more perks for you guys playing together that you got to take advantage of or no?

[00:40:08] It was mostly just we got it.

[00:40:10] It was easier to unlock some of the other things because unlocking the Pokemon, unlocking the Pokemon alone takes a long time.

[00:40:17] They don't come cheap, but some of the room redesigns were a nice touch.

[00:40:22] They've got different Pokemon in there depending on what theme you've got.

[00:40:25] And they've even got a few other fun little nods here.

[00:40:29] The futuristic one has this whole, oh hey, it's Mecha Tyranitite.

[00:40:32] Remember PokéStar Studios?

[00:40:34] Well, it's back here and they've even got a few other music options that you can play in there.

[00:40:40] They've even brought back the different throwing styles back from the sun and moon days.

[00:40:45] So there's a fun little bunch of customization things depending on what you feel like doing.

[00:40:50] Now that you bring it up, I think I did spend just enough time to give myself the left handed throwing style because I had to.

[00:40:57] Oh, that's great.

[00:40:59] This is like a ninja style.

[00:41:01] I think there's some really wacky ones in there if I remember correctly.

[00:41:04] Yeah, I actually got that one.

[00:41:06] It was just funny.

[00:41:07] You just sort of fan it off of your palm like that.

[00:41:09] It's pretty cool.

[00:41:10] So I guess one of the other bigger things that I guess it's well, it's not part of the story directly, but new Paradox Pokemon more specifically based on legendary trios.

[00:41:22] They started to doling them out to us when the game first came out in a Pokemon presents like up.

[00:41:28] Here's a walking wake and iron leaves.

[00:41:31] Good luck, you guys.

[00:41:34] You got to do raids for those.

[00:41:36] You guys aren't going to follow up on that?

[00:41:38] No, maybe later.

[00:41:39] Good luck.

[00:41:40] And then we got him and like and then the DLC kind of like in here is the rest across versions.

[00:41:49] Yeah, so like they funky names gouging fire raging bolt iron boulder iron crown.

[00:41:55] So like I think like good luck.

[00:41:57] I always thought the iron names are just so like we I think sticking iron X something is just kind of like I don't know man.

[00:42:07] Something about that naming scheme still doesn't jive right with me.

[00:42:09] But more importantly, do we actually like these designs?

[00:42:13] I think Scarlet got the longer end of the stick like I actually like crazy giraffe.

[00:42:19] Right go, but the iron ones they kind of just have they kind of have the same silver up with a metallic rates on me.

[00:42:26] I don't really know even with even though I like Gen five's musketeers better.

[00:42:30] I think you guys got kind of screwed with the rest of the iron tree over there.

[00:42:35] Yeah, especially since they didn't have like a cyborg.

[00:42:40] Oh my god, cal day.

[00:42:42] I would go with it.

[00:42:43] Cyborg.

[00:42:44] Oh, that would have probably worked out pretty nicely.

[00:42:48] But yeah, I just haven't really felt these redesigns in general.

[00:42:51] I do actually like walking wake a fair bit, but most of the others I'm going to take or leave.

[00:42:57] And yeah, just the iron ones really don't feel like they stand out enough compared to the original.

[00:43:02] It's a little bit too much of the same thing, whereas they get more creative with the scarlet past Pokemon.

[00:43:07] Yeah, they actually changed up the design.

[00:43:09] They actually changed up the shapes, man.

[00:43:11] Yeah, I don't know.

[00:43:12] But the one thing I thought was kind of funny though is that since iron leaves and walking wake are like,

[00:43:18] technically their raid event exclusive, you don't actually need them to complete the blueberry Pokedex.

[00:43:24] They just lumped them onto the end of it because it's like, oh, by the way, they can't get into the middle of it to mess with Pio's completionism.

[00:43:30] So they just threw them on.

[00:43:31] It's like, but they're like part of the whole thing?

[00:43:34] I don't know. It's like weird, but I guess they have to get people to connect online.

[00:43:37] So guys, remember Meloetta from because, you know, more and more, you know, vetezes.

[00:43:46] How do we get this thing?

[00:43:49] Funny, you should ask, because it's a little more involved than you might think.

[00:43:54] OK, other than buying the plush from the store, Vin.

[00:43:58] I have a literal Meloetta plush because I'm a dork.

[00:44:03] You have to like talk to Mew under the truck because this method is as obscure as that.

[00:44:10] There's a method so hidden that I can't imagine that many people did it like on their own.

[00:44:16] But I guess we should just read this off Bulbapedia, because that's what people do.

[00:44:21] But basically Meloetta, you can find them like east of the coastal outdoor class

[00:44:26] or more a small cyclone of leaves can be found if the player spins around clockwise

[00:44:30] in the center of the leaves for at least 10 seconds, activates their camera immediately afterwards

[00:44:36] that applies the sepia filter.

[00:44:38] Meloetta will appear and start singing relic song and then it could be interacted with and you can catch them.

[00:44:43] It's like, wait, what? It's like such a weird like sequence of events.

[00:44:48] It's so specific because there are NPCs that mention like leaves, but the sepia tone,

[00:44:53] you have to like know their backstory from like Pokemon Black and White to have a chance

[00:44:57] because it's like a sepia tone like cutscene.

[00:44:59] I didn't think about that and I got a plush like right here.

[00:45:04] This is Pokemon developers who heard all of us talking on the playground

[00:45:11] or Pokemon developers that were us talking on the playground

[00:45:16] and they just had to work this in now that they were in the position that they could do.

[00:45:23] So like, oh, you think it was dumb that you were going to skip portions of the game

[00:45:28] to try and find you under a truck?

[00:45:31] We can outstupid this.

[00:45:34] Oh my God, they did. They so did.

[00:45:37] I mean, that's about all I can think of here.

[00:45:40] They're just bringing back those schoolyard level rumors.

[00:45:43] I never heard anything that was that off the wall back in those days.

[00:45:48] I mean, all I can think of is, you know, we've got the Internet now.

[00:45:51] The Internet tells all players will find a way TM.

[00:45:55] But these are really darn obscure.

[00:45:59] Yeah, it's great because like you can actually get killed daily on Crown Tundra

[00:46:02] if you do some footstep shenanigans or something or other.

[00:46:05] But like this, like you have to be big brain man or galaxy brain to like have a chance.

[00:46:09] And even then, like good luck to you.

[00:46:11] Like, there's no way in the world that would have known about this otherwise.

[00:46:15] Like, there's just no way.

[00:46:17] I'm sure this started off the boring way and someone found it in the code, right?

[00:46:21] Because there's no way there is no way someone found a leaf or a leaf in the wind

[00:46:28] thought to spin around and then take a picture with the CPU talks.

[00:46:32] There is no way I don't I don't believe so.

[00:46:35] I think it actually started from like looking into the data.

[00:46:37] I think I believe that's what happened.

[00:46:39] But then they had to like reverse engineer.

[00:46:41] I believe that's what happened.

[00:46:42] But no, I mean, I'm telling you that has to be what happened because if you tell me,

[00:46:45] oh, I found that on my own, I'm calling you out on your bullshit.

[00:46:49] There is no way there's no way.

[00:46:51] You know, the funny thing is that I actually kept finding the wrong like patch of like leaves

[00:46:57] and I spun the wrong way too.

[00:46:59] So like you've just been a very specific way which doesn't work.

[00:47:01] Yeah. Yeah.

[00:47:02] Yeah. And spinning the right way is definitely more playground or playground bullshit

[00:47:06] because if you came up with something like that and you went back to your friends

[00:47:10] and it didn't work.

[00:47:11] Oh, did you spin counterclockwise?

[00:47:13] Oh, I spun clockwise.

[00:47:14] Better go try again when you get home.

[00:47:16] You know, right.

[00:47:17] You know, your switches in here.

[00:47:18] Yeah.

[00:47:19] You'll just have to try when you get home and we can't.

[00:47:21] That's too bad guy.

[00:47:23] Tell me about it.

[00:47:24] Oh my God. Trust me.

[00:47:25] Seriously.

[00:47:27] It's I love to see things get to this point though.

[00:47:30] It's like that's wild and I can't imagine what they will come what they'll come up with next.

[00:47:34] Like Volcani is going to have some like underground like shenanigans and Pokemon ZA or whatever.

[00:47:40] It's gonna be crazy.

[00:47:42] No, no.

[00:47:43] So you need this full team of these exact six Pokemon and then you got to take a taxi ride in Lumiose City

[00:47:50] and then you've got to give this specific amount of a tip and then and just like 20 more steps like that.

[00:47:57] Just you wait.

[00:47:58] We'll see.

[00:47:59] I thought we were toeing the line when the Ruby Sapphire manual came with the with the Braille to English translation

[00:48:06] translation guide and we had to use that.

[00:48:12] They'll come back.

[00:48:13] Oh my God.

[00:48:16] Oh, that's amazing.

[00:48:17] I forgot about that manual part.

[00:48:18] That's really funny.

[00:48:20] You remember things that I forgot about.

[00:48:24] So you remember the part last time during the postgame show where I said it really feel like taking classes.

[00:48:30] Well, I kind of got fucked because you have to actually do this stuff to get another post DLC like thing.

[00:48:38] So my friend offhandedly brought up like an auction that I didn't know about.

[00:48:41] I was like, what are you talking about, man?

[00:48:43] So like I try to do this deployment just wasn't popping up.

[00:48:46] I didn't have access to it.

[00:48:48] So I looked it up and like you have to actually pass a final exam in the base game.

[00:48:53] I was like, oh shit.

[00:48:55] And I can't really blame you either.

[00:48:57] Like those things take some time to go through.

[00:48:59] And I'm sure some people were like, yeah, I'm not going to school.

[00:49:02] I'm going to go and catch Pokemon and have a good time.

[00:49:05] If you do that, though, you'll never see this cutscene with and then you won't get this badass unlock.

[00:49:10] But it's really funny because like you get the help the former delinquents return to school

[00:49:16] and like Mela, who normally has like this sort of a crazy fiery like metal motif.

[00:49:21] She just doesn't like have any makeup and she looks like a completely different person.

[00:49:25] I'm like, wait, what?

[00:49:26] This is where I'm going to admit I did go to school and take the finals just because.

[00:49:31] Yeah.

[00:49:32] And I didn't do this auction house thing until the other night because it didn't occur to me.

[00:49:37] So I don't think they tell you to do it.

[00:49:39] Yeah, I think there.

[00:49:40] Yeah, you have to go to the counter when the exclamation points pop up after you do all the other stuff.

[00:49:45] You have to explore.

[00:49:46] Yeah, you have to play the game.

[00:49:49] Oh man, not playing a game and finding things out in your not not back.

[00:49:54] Heavens, I'm famous for hating for hating doing things on my own.

[00:49:59] Yeah, like you get a little thing saying, oh, they're in the main hall.

[00:50:03] But I got thrown for a loop by their non team star appearances either.

[00:50:07] So I didn't even recognize them until, oh, I'm just going to go start talking to everybody.

[00:50:12] And oh, what do you know?

[00:50:13] There they are.

[00:50:15] But the whole thing was a fun, whimsical way to wrap up a few of the loose ends for all the team star crew we we came to know and love and beaten to the ground in the course of the main game.

[00:50:25] It was fun dialogue.

[00:50:26] It was fun.

[00:50:27] They're a bunch of nerds and they're like they have like they get all uppity about learning and stuff like that's like this tutor guy.

[00:50:32] I don't want to learn from this guy or someone so they get all like uppity and stuff because they're prideful members of TeamStar or whatever.

[00:50:39] But yeah, if you do all this rigmarole, you get this fancy auction house right for I think from Atticus like the ninja like dude.

[00:50:45] He he like sells these things that have insane throwbacks to other games so you can get like replica team Aqua magma gear taking notes from like Ruby Sapphire.

[00:50:54] You get a cyber visor just straight up looks like cyber visor over your eyes.

[00:50:59] Do you guys like think of did you guys like have any other favorites from this or?

[00:51:03] Yeah, I've ended up rocking the replica dragon gloves because it's actually as deep cut to one of the random champion opponents.

[00:51:11] I think Brugy who you could fight.

[00:51:13] Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:51:16] Because I did have that fight back when I played that I was like, what the heck is this guy?

[00:51:20] It just kind of comes out of nowhere.

[00:51:22] But hey, he's got some cool gloves.

[00:51:23] I'll gladly wear those and it gets a nice little variety.

[00:51:26] How did Atticus get the or I guess maybe you just drew inspiration.

[00:51:30] He didn't necessarily steal any.

[00:51:33] They're careful to save their replicas.

[00:51:35] I guess you know he totally didn't steal the blueprints and all that other stuff.

[00:51:40] Blueprints.

[00:51:46] So like this DLC is full of crazy shenanigans.

[00:51:48] But there's one more thing that I like to colloquially refer to as the fake ass your name sequence, which I didn't know about till again.

[00:51:55] I looked it up.

[00:51:56] But so once you beat them to go disc, you can go back to the frame rate tanking crystal pool in to a mask.

[00:52:03] Right.

[00:52:04] So once you do the shenanigans that happen, this mist appears everywhere.

[00:52:09] It's this crazy fog appears and like the respective professor that shows up to I think was a tour for violent inside out for for Scarlet.

[00:52:16] They show up.

[00:52:17] They're supposed to be dead, but they show up.

[00:52:18] I'm like, what are you doing here?

[00:52:20] They're like a ghost version from like a parallel dimension.

[00:52:22] They talk to you and like what?

[00:52:25] So I can't imagine like they didn't take notes from your name because it has like similar sorts of wacky like metaphysical shenanigans.

[00:52:33] But so like they show up, they talk to you and like you get like they're forced to like give them like a like a key item, the book or like the Vilar Scarlet book.

[00:52:42] Right.

[00:52:43] And then so like I was like, wait, we constantly get time paradox by giving them an object from to me.

[00:52:49] To me, this just brought up the same complaint, not complaint, but note I made from our other show where I really think they wrote this with Toro and then shoehorned it in for Sado later because, you know, Sado was worried about the dinosaurs.

[00:53:04] Why would she be appearing in a sudden time loop for no apparent reason as opposed to the more technologically advanced Toro?

[00:53:13] Because he got cooler Pokemon.

[00:53:15] Don't worry about it.

[00:53:17] And she's given me a look when I'm asking her like, what about you, Philly?

[00:53:21] Yes, I have a son and I swear to God if he's home making sandwiches by himself, I'm going to be very disappointed in him.

[00:53:29] Right? Oh my God, that was funny. Oh God.

[00:53:32] Yeah, it was a pretty wild sequence. It's like, oh, this is how the we get our stable time loop action going on here.

[00:53:39] So that's where they got the book from.

[00:53:41] It's just kind of a fun way to tie up that loose end, but it is a little bit of a wild sequence to get just that you could easily miss if you don't think to go back there either.

[00:53:51] Yeah, because why would you ever go back to the previous DLCs area?

[00:53:54] There's no actual intrinsic reason for it.

[00:53:56] But the reason for it that's actually really cool is that to my recollection, this actually might be one of the well, I guess technically Sword and Shield did it first, but this changes the title screen.

[00:54:08] Actually, I thought that was like super cool. It's like so instantly like if you're looking at somebody like playing the game, you'll know if they hit the sequence or not, because like the title screen becomes this sort of like really chill like sunset thing instead.

[00:54:20] I'm like, wait a second. Like that's like crazy cool.

[00:54:23] Although it doesn't really do anything else right? Because I even took it part and he's like, well, nice book you got there. You get that from the library or something?

[00:54:32] It's like one dialogue line. Yeah, but.

[00:54:36] I guess they realized that really wasn't going to be too much of a real ending for folks. So they went in and did Moki Mayhem or oh fuck, we didn't write a real ending for this thing.

[00:54:48] Oh God. People had expectations on the interwebs. I never expected any of the others, but people got all uppity man.

[00:54:56] That sounds weird. I just thought it was weird because all Pokemon Twitter accounts were like, man, Pecha Berries are great. Aren't Pecha Berries amazing?

[00:55:04] Like we're talking about the same Pecha Berries. You know, yeah, you betcha. We're all going to send you one and it's going to appear in your mailbox. Go get it.

[00:55:15] Yeah, they made such a big deal. It's like connect online to get this freaking mythical berry.

[00:55:20] It's like what? It's just a berry. Like why are you making me go online for this? It's so weird.

[00:55:26] It comes in a box.

[00:55:29] Sure, yeah.

[00:55:32] I mean, it was a way to make all of the characters appear because as we said earlier, we don't bring our main game friends to the DLC land.

[00:55:41] So it becomes a wacky crossover adventure where it becomes invasion of the body snatchers but fun for the whole family.

[00:55:55] I can't, who wrote this? It's like this preface for Pokemon. Like what's going on here man?

[00:56:17] Poisoned puppeteer is a fun ability. It's just too bad that only Pecha Ron can use it.

[00:56:21] Yeah, it's like when you poison them, you also confuse them. It's kind of busted by we're presumed this is probably bad from like most like legal rules or like whatever.

[00:56:30] But like yeah, that's kind of cool. Yeah, to me ultimately, this is just an over glorified way to introduce Pecha Ron. It's not much of a story.

[00:56:36] It really isn't. Like I appreciate the effort to add on like a third part to this sort of DLC thing, Bobber, but like it just seemed like a very convenient excuse to get people to log online and get your mythical Pecha Berry.

[00:56:47] Like I didn't really think it was that memorable outside of like FUNZY.

[00:56:51] Well we got to watch everyone do the chicken dance sort of.

[00:56:55] That's true. That is true.

[00:56:57] Yeah, they had a little fun with that mochi dance with everybody, but they just went short and silly.

[00:57:02] It was nice to OK, here's your in-game friends from way long ago.

[00:57:07] So you get a nice little finale that brings them all back for one last little bring it in guys kind of moment.

[00:57:13] But yeah, they just it was just a fun little conclusion of things.

[00:57:17] Nothing too special. But yeah, it's better if you don't go in with huge expectations like this is going to be a real game changer.

[00:57:24] Well, Pokemon players and expectations, they expect the sky from the series, dude.

[00:57:31] But you know, I think for adding like a third part, it was fine.

[00:57:35] And also like incidentally enough, it also kind of like ties together like the rest of the lore of Teal Mask because there was a loyal three trio in there and this is their master.

[00:57:44] And by the way, oops, all poison everywhere. So like thematically it was cool.

[00:57:48] Now dance.

[00:57:50] Now dance.

[00:57:52] Yeah, I guess we should we could we could start winding this down a little bit.

[00:57:58] It's been a year and we've been having fun with this.

[00:58:02] I guess overall, we had a better time with this than Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra, right?

[00:58:08] I would say so. But as a bit of a funky generalization, like I would say I love Armors, like location looked interesting,

[00:58:16] but maybe Crown Tundra's legendaries more or more like whimsical and fun.

[00:58:20] But this sort of like is thrown on its head in a manner of speaking.

[00:58:23] I wouldn't say like Teal Mask is more interesting legendaries, but maybe like Indigo Discs, like Locale's more memorable because I mean that terrarium is wild man.

[00:58:31] And Ogre Pond is like super, super fun.

[00:58:33] But when they introduced Terrapagos at the end of Indigo Discs, like as much as I love rainbows and turtles and all,

[00:58:38] like they appear at the end and they don't really get to do that much.

[00:58:42] Like they get the bus open a master ball.

[00:58:44] That's pretty dope. But like as an actual like plot device kind of thing, like they don't really do anything.

[00:58:50] Kieran just tries too hard to be a real boy.

[00:58:52] No, I'm the protagonist!

[00:58:55] It's great. All of this else fun.

[00:58:57] It was made for some good moments for sure.

[00:58:59] It did feel like Indigo Discs was more involved in the Teal Mask with everything it brought to the table.

[00:59:06] Just not like, hey, here's even more new returning Pokémon and characters, but just all of the different unlockables.

[00:59:13] You just get a treasure trove of easy access items.

[00:59:16] But it's and you get a nice little bit of story bit here and there too.

[00:59:20] But Terrapagos did kind of feel like a letdown after there's all this build up in the early ads for the DLC before we even had a name for this.

[00:59:30] And especially after how memorable Ogre Pond's whole part of the story was.

[00:59:34] They do have a few neat cutscenes and moments there,

[00:59:37] but it felt like Ogre Pond was an actual character that was part of the story.

[00:59:42] Whereas, Trapagos is more of like a force of nature rather than just a fun character addition to things.

[00:59:49] Especially after in the older DLC, you had Cubfu and Urshifu had a little bit more going on here and there.

[00:59:57] And Calyrex had a few fun moments too.

[00:59:59] And they were present throughout almost the entire DLC, not just safe for the very tip end of it.

[01:00:05] But yeah, in general, mechanically I'd say them BBQs and stuff, I think that stands out more in my head in general.

[01:00:11] As much as I love Dynamax adventures from Crown Tundra and stuff like that,

[01:00:15] I think just the general flow of these particular DLC packs is more enthralling than before, I think.

[01:00:21] Personally anyway.

[01:00:23] So we would recommend these overall, right?

[01:00:26] Because I personally would because even though the story felt a little half-baked, especially with Ciaran's sudden villain arc,

[01:00:34] I feel like they did try to give you a story as opposed to whatever was going on in Sword and Shield.

[01:00:40] Remember when Calyrex was basically doing Weekend at Bernie's with your mentor and the other one like,

[01:00:46] You need to go find my ghost horse.

[01:00:49] What was that noise?

[01:00:51] The ghost horse!

[01:00:53] It's like, oh I heard like so-and-so kind of noise and then that changes the horse.

[01:00:57] So I'm like, wait what? It's so random!

[01:00:59] I mean following up the we have no need for professors anymore storyline was always going to be a little flat.

[01:01:07] But this was fine.

[01:01:10] Yeah, you know if you did enjoy all the story stuff there,

[01:01:12] there's going to be more to enjoy here and there with the plot sort of spanning across both things rather than being two separate stories like before.

[01:01:21] And one other thing that was pretty nice was this is the furthest Game Freaks pushed the competitive side too.

[01:01:27] Because some of those double matches get really intense and you actually need to have prep.

[01:01:32] You're like, OK, we're actually using legit competitive movesets.

[01:01:36] Everyone's got held items and yeah, just starting with Kieran at the very end of Teal Mask.

[01:01:42] I mean things just kind of expand from there and it's a Pokemon game.

[01:01:47] It's not going to be super duper challenging,

[01:01:49] but they definitely make you think a little bit more and think like,

[01:01:53] OK, I got to actually change things around here for what we're doing.

[01:01:57] So it's nice to see that.

[01:01:59] It was really, really cool.

[01:02:00] And again, yeah, I really liked how it sort of like made you experiment with like moves with like teams and the like.

[01:02:06] And in general speaking, I would say Indigo Disk is among my favorite Pokemon experiences.

[01:02:10] It just has got some weirdos.

[01:02:13] It's got a pretty funky premise and I think that's cool, man.

[01:02:17] You know, speaking of actually trying different things,

[01:02:22] I got to talk about raid culture just a little bit because I still can't get over how most of the fire raids were solved.

[01:02:29] Bring Darkspawn, change the moveset a little bit and use helping hand on the beefier guys.

[01:02:36] Like almost every time that worked.

[01:02:40] I kept thinking no way it's going to work again and it did.

[01:02:45] Yeah, it's just essentially it's cool that they added starters inside of the DLC because now you have an excuse to just spam raids for like every each and every single starter like forevermore.

[01:02:55] Like whatever. Right.

[01:02:56] So like we just trolled up Primarina who spans like music song moves because you could just use Taunt and they can't sing at you anymore.

[01:03:06] Isn't there an item that blocks out sound moves or am I making that up?

[01:03:10] I think there is. Yeah, I think so.

[01:03:13] There's some Pokemon that get soundproof, so you can actually defend against that too.

[01:03:17] That's right. But then they got other ways they can mess you up.

[01:03:20] So it's better for you for everybody involved if you just like, okay, just use Taunt and stop the music and then everyone could just get buff.

[01:03:27] And speaking of getting buffed, so like our crowning moment was against Meganium, like the prior raid where we had two Golden Golem, like this steel ghost thing and two Amur Rouge.

[01:03:36] So we like we burned them and then someone got a critical hit with Hex, which does more damage if they're status afflicted.

[01:03:42] So it just one shot them. It's like poof.

[01:03:45] Just like poof. It's like, oh my God, that was like amazing.

[01:03:48] It's like moments like that are hype, man.

[01:03:50] Yeah, you could build up some pretty interesting strategies and try to go for just the one hit KO or anything like that.

[01:03:57] These are just they're nice because they're fun events.

[01:03:59] They're just tough enough that they can be challenging.

[01:04:02] You can't just use whoever and expect to be fine, but they're not so overwhelming that it's just OK.

[01:04:07] This is the one strategy you cannot deviate from this.

[01:04:11] If everything goes wrong, then just forget it and give up.

[01:04:14] You've got more than one way you can tackle things.

[01:04:17] And it's super easy to raise up whatever counter you want to use because now you've got access to even more fancy pants items in the DLC.

[01:04:26] And it's easier than ever to get all just a stat it up and ready to roll.

[01:04:30] Just sell those things you get from the from the Poke Gotcha and cram those candies or buy like the EV boosting items or whatever.

[01:04:42] Right. So, yeah.

[01:04:44] Speaking of items we all got in the DLC, did we all just decide to wear the blueberry uniform here out?

[01:04:49] Because I feel like every time I do a raid, it's just blueberry uniform town the whole way through.

[01:04:55] I am definitely included in this, but it's very rare that I see anyone trying to wear anything else.

[01:05:01] I don't think people like well, I don't even like those like base like necktie costumes, man.

[01:05:07] I ran the tracksuit nowadays.

[01:05:10] Yeah, I mean, we've got such limited options, sadly, with the main game.

[01:05:15] This is really one of the better choices you've got.

[01:05:17] So I switched into that and I haven't looked back since.

[01:05:20] All right. One more thing before I let you guys go back to your raids and highly populated areas and remote raid passes and whatever.

[01:05:32] Do we think this batch of DLC is going to shape what we think might be going on in the Pokemon Legends ZA?

[01:05:41] I mean, we could probably make a ham-fisted joke about how the game's going to have more geometry than before.

[01:05:48] But maybe maybe they'll really push like the cyber cube stuff.

[01:05:55] I mean, I don't know.

[01:05:56] But I get the sinking suspicion that since we're spending more time, there's no Pokemon game this year.

[01:06:01] So like I get the sinking suspicion that they're probably going to try to push the fidelity level a little more because they've probably heard a gazillion complaints about how this game runs.

[01:06:09] So like I would imagine they're probably going to like shake things up and take a little bit of extra time.

[01:06:13] I mean, I like to think so anyway.

[01:06:15] It would make sense that they're going for kind of a fresh start here rather than trying to patch up things after the fact there.

[01:06:20] So if they spend a little more time and get something a little bit more fine tuned, then that'll be good to see.

[01:06:26] And we'll see how much they keep up some of the new additions that came around this time around.

[01:06:31] As far as engaging with Pokemon, is it going to be similar to Arceus's whole gameplay mechanics or are they going to split the middle?

[01:06:41] Are they going to bring some things back?

[01:06:43] We know they're going to have mega evolution or they've strongly hinted at it.

[01:06:48] So yeah, it's coming back.

[01:06:50] All right then just one more question before we wrap up for real.

[01:06:54] We've been making lots of crazy predictions on the main show.

[01:06:57] So as the Poke Pals over, I'm going to let us make one here too.

[01:07:02] Will Pokemon Legends ZA get a simultaneous switch switch plus release?

[01:07:08] Yes, no.

[01:07:09] That's the eternal question.

[01:07:11] Because they kept it open by saying Nintendo Switch systems, but people presumed that was just like the light and the OLED and stuff.

[01:07:16] But I mean, that's why it's open enough, right?

[01:07:19] Um, yeah, I mean, it falls in line.

[01:07:22] Like if the switch processor comes out at the beginning of you know, well, if it's announced to be sometime in 2025, then presumably be the perfect opportunity, right?

[01:07:36] Make it make that Lumiose City like run nice buttery smooth, right?

[01:07:39] I mean, it's possible.

[01:07:40] I think the timing lines up.

[01:07:42] It would make sense for it.

[01:07:44] But yeah, I mean, we'll have to see what kind of a performance difference we'll see too.

[01:07:48] Remember if we're right, you can hire us all for to be analysts and if we're wrong, well, you could look at us all on our social accounts or just the main one that find time podcasts on, you know, Twitter, Blue Sky or whatever else they invent by the time Legends ZA comes out or just in general.

[01:08:08] Thanks for listening.
