The Xbox 360 had so many games. Entirely too many games. Luckily a lot of them can be played on modern Xbox consoles. Unfortunately many more cannot. Whether it's due to licensing issues, studio closures, or whatever else keeps a game from being backwards compatible, quite a few awesome games cannot be played on modern Xbox consoles and it absolutely sucks. The wizards over at Microsoft tried their best and made so many great games playable on newer hardware, but quite a few games require you to bust out the ol' 360 (even PS3) in order to play them.
Let's take a look at some of oldies but goodies that you can only play on Xbox 360.
Eternal Sonata
This game doesn't get nearly as much attention as it deserves. It has an upbeat, yet melancholy tone throughout the whole game.
The characters are named after different musical terms and they're so unique! Each one having different weapons, different attacks, and goofy voice lines in combat.
The combat is almost a mix of real-time strategy and turn-based, and your moves change depending on if the characters are exposed to sunlight or if they're in the dark.
If you're a JRPG nut, this one definitely needs to be on your radar.
Alpha Protocol
Speaking of nuts - this game. Alpha Protocol is like Metal Gear Solid meets Deus Ex. You can complete missions using stealth, blasting your way through, hacking everything in sight, or any other way that you can think of. There are lots of dialogue options, multiple endings, cool hub areas, and sweet weapons.
The game is a little janky, but it's rad as heck. Cheap too!
Blur
One-half Need for Speed Underground, one-half Mario Kart. In Blur, you'll battle opponents for street dominance using powerups such as a landmine, electric shock, and a nitro boost.
This one absolutely deserves the ol' Xbox Series X/S enhancements. Why it hasn't been made backwards compatible I will never understand.
Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005)
Two racing games in a row! WHOA!
Most Wanted (2005) is my very favorite Need for Speed game. The soundtrack was excellent, the car selection was super rad, the gameplay and customization were top-notch, and the blacklist racers always put up a decent challenge.
This one deserves to be given the backwards compatibility treatment.
Resonance of Fate
Okay, this game is on Steam and PS4 now. But for some reason it's just skipped Xbox.
While the combat is a little hard to grasp at first, it's insanely fun and addictive once you get the hang of it.
If you've never heard of or played this one, check out the combat on YouTube. It's so wild!
That's it! What do you think?
What are some of your favorites that are stuck on Xbox 360?
